Amsterdam Cruise Port

Guide to passenger terminal amsterdam (pta).

cruise ship amsterdam

Amsterdam has developed into a major northern European cruise port hub. Cruise Port Amsterdam is the company which handles both large ocean cruise ships and long river cruise boats.

Cruises arrive and depart from the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam which is close to Amsterdam Central station and has easy access to the city centre.

Passenger Terminal Amsterdam

The main building at the Amsterdam Cruise Port is called the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) and opened in the year 2000. It was designed by global architecture firm HOK with lead designers Hal Hayes and Larry Malcic. Its wave-like glass structure is a striking example of the modern architecture to be seen on the Amsterdam IJ waterfront.

As well as having handled around 4 million cruise passengers since opening, the multi-purpose building is also used for events and functions for up to 3,000 people.

passenger terminal amsterdam

Located on the Piet Heinkade road, the PTA is sandwiched between the Mövenpick hotel and the Piet Hein office building .

The Amsterdam cruise terminal has a 600m long dock (depth 10m) on the northern side and has the size to host large cruise ships of up to 340m in length.

This modern facility has meant Amsterdam has become a popular stop-off on North Sea, Baltic and polar cruises and is served by many of the major cruise lines.

Amsterdam’s cruise terminal is located only 25km (13.5 nautical miles) from the North Sea. You can check out the sea cruise calendar here .

passenger terminal amsterdam door

In and around the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam you will find a huge reception hall (3,000m² area), promenade and panorama decks, a Thinking of Holland souvenir shop, a coffee bar, a Subway sandwich outlet and a tourist information desk. There is free WiFi internet available.

Luggage lockers at PTA cost €4 (small, 35 x 45 x 85cm) or €6 (large, 35 x 62 x 85cm) for 24 hours use – payment by coins only.

A bike rental shop (Amsterbike) is outside at Piet Heinkade 25.

A large underground car parking facility (Piet Heingarage) has 400 spaces and has a maximum day rate of €50.

If you are looking for a nearby supermarket in Amsterdam to stock up on supplies, there are Albert Heijn branches either by walking east from PTA to Oostelijke Handelskade 1065 or by heading west past Amsterdam Central Station to Prins Hendrikkade 20.

Hotels near Amsterdam Cruise Port

Without doubt, the most convenient hotel for cruise passengers as mentioned is the high-rise Mövenpick Hotel , which is literally nextdoor to the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam building.

It offers 408 stylish, well-appointed rooms (ranging in size from 26m² to 38m²). Those on the higher floors have great views of the IJ river, especially looking west back towards the city. Executive rooms on the 19th and 20th floors get lounge access included.

It is well rated by travellers and has a restaurant on-site. You can book the Mövenpick hotel here via Booking.com .

Another good hotel in the area is the well-rated Jakarta Amsterdam hotel which is located across the bridge on Java Island. It offers modern, stylish rooms and a light, airy interior decorated with tropical plants.

Other nearby hotels to consider are the art-deco Grand Amrath (former Shipping House) and the modern DoubleTree by Hilton .

Passenger Terminal Amsterdam to Amsterdam Central Station

Amsterdam Central Station, the city’s main transport hub is only a short distance away from Amsterdam’s cruise port terminal. There are a number of options for getting to and from the station.

Walk: It’s an easy 10-15 minute walk along the Piet Heinkade road. As you come out of the PTA building you need to head right in a westerly direction.

Tram: GVB tram 26 runs to Amsterdam Central Station where you can change onto other Amsterdam trams and public transport. A standard 1 hour single costs €3.40, a 1 day ticket costs €9.00 – buy on board, payment by card only. You can also book GVB multi-day tickets online here and immediately use them on a smartphone.

Amsterdam City Passes

Passenger terminal amsterdam to amsterdam schiphol airport.

Train: From Amsterdam Central Station there are regular trains running to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. This journey takes around 15-20 minutes. Tickets cost €5.90 (2nd class) and €9.33 (1st class) including the €1 surcharge for buying a disposable ticket.

Taxi: A taxi to the airport will take 30-45 minutes and costs around €45-60. Amsterdam taxis can be pre-booked online with Sneleentaxi which uses reliable local firms.

Alternatively, taxi app Uber is present in Amsterdam with similar fares.

River Cruises from Amsterdam

It is possible to do various European river cruises from Amsterdam which travel through the Rhine and Danube and visit cities such as Cologne, Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest. The longest continue through Romania and Bulgaria and reach the Black Sea at Rousse.

Welcome to Seattle! Known for its lush green forests and sparkling blue waters, Seattle is the perfect place to stay before heading out on an Alaskan cruise. With me as your travel advisor, you can rest assured that you’ll find the best hotel near the Seattle Cruise Port.

Plus, I live nearby and have a lot of experience helping travelers plan their dream cruises, so trust me when I say I know what’s best for your stay in Seattle. I’ve got plenty of tips and advice on finding the right accommodation for you – so let’s get started!

cruise port terminal hotel

1. Pan Pacific Seattle

⭐️  RATING:  4/5 Stars | 📍 LOCATION: 2125 Terry Avenue, Seattle, WA, 98121 ✅  Book it!

The Pan Pacific Seattle is the perfect destination for cruisers looking to explore the city of Seattle. Located in downtown Seattle, the hotel offers a free shuttle service within 2 miles of the city center, allowing guests to easily access some of Seattle’s top attractions, including Pike Place Market, The Space Needle, and the iconic Seattle Waterfront.

Additionally, due to its fantastic location near all the action, visitors can take in all that downtown Seattle has to offer without having to worry about transportation logistics. The hotel staff is also friendly yet knowledgeable, always happy to help visitors make the most out of their stay in Seattle. ⚓︎ Pan Pacific is closest to Pier 66

Cruising from the beautiful city of Seattle is an amazing experience, and Pan Pacific Seattle makes it even better! Here are just three of the many benefits that cruisers can enjoy when they come to the hotel:

1. Location: Pan Pacific Seattle offers unbeatable convenience to cruise ship terminals, so cruisers don’t have to worry about long drives or complicated transit passes. 2. Comfort: With luxurious guest rooms complete with plush beds and modern amenities, plus a 24-hour fitness center, a hot tub and sauna, and more, guests can relax in comfort before their cruise sets sail. 3. Convenience: The hotel offers free Wi-Fi throughout, plus a business center with printing services and meeting rooms for passengers who need to stay productive before heading off on their journey.

The Pan Pacific Seattle is an ideal lodging choice for cruisers sailing from Pier 66 . It offers a luxurious and convenient experience, featuring stylish modern rooms. There are a few potential downsides to this hotel. Parking is priced quite high (as is all of Seattle), but if you dont have a car, that wont matter. Breakfast is not included, and can be costly, although it is excellent quality.

The last drawback is that if you are sailing from terminal 91, you will not be able to utilize the shuttle to the ship, and will need to find alternate transportation.

cruise port terminal hotel

2. Hyatt House Seattle

⭐️  RATING:  3/5 Stars |📍 LOCATION: 201 Fifth Avenue North, Seattle, WA, 98109| ✅  Book it!

Hyatt House Seattle is the perfect place for cruisers! All of their rooms come with refrigerators and microwaves, along with free breakfast and snacks. Plus, the views from the rooftop deck are unbeatable! You can walk across the street to the Space Needle, or walk to Pike Place in under 20 minutes.

We rented electric scooters and rode them to the waterfront which was so much fun! It is a great way to see the city. During cruise season, the hotel will help you arrange a shuttle to both cruise ports.

Hyatt House Downtown Seattle is the perfect place for discerning travelers looking to enjoy the bustling city life of Seattle. Here are the top three benefits of staying at this hotel:

1. Hyatt House offers convenient access to popular attractions like the Pike Place Market and Space Needle, as well as local shopping, dining, and entertainment. 2. Complimentary continental breakfast is served daily, so you can fuel up before heading out on an exciting day in Seattle! 3. Enjoy the rooftop terrace and fireplace too!

Hyatt Place Seattle/ Downtown has some drawbacks that you should consider before booking a stay. Here is a list of cons: The Wifi here is notoriously awful. I can’t ever get enough signal to do anything from inside the hotel, so if you need to work before your cruise, you may have difficulty here.

The views aren’t great from the rooms. Yes, it is across the street from the Space Needle, but your in-room view likely won’t reflect that. I’ve stayed at the Hyatt House in Seattle on multiple occasions, and my experiences there have been nothing short of excellent.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’ve been more than pleased each time — the customer service is outstanding, and the rooms are always spotless. It’s a great spot if you’re looking to explore the city too; walking around the area can be quite fun. Hyatt House Seattle is the perfect place to stay before heading off to an Alaskan cruise.

Relax in comfortable rooms and suites. With a convenient location near downtown Seattle, you will be able to easily explore the city’s attractions before boarding your cruise ship. And when you depart, Hyatt House Seattle helps to arrange shuttle services to the cruise terminal so you can get there on time with no hassle.

3. StayPineapple, The Maxwell Hotel

⭐️  RATING:  5/5 Stars | 📍 LOCATION: 300 Roy St, Seattle, WA, 98109| ✅  Book it!

The Maxwell Hotel in Seattle is the perfect destination for travelers looking to experience the vibrant culture and beauty of the Pacific Northwest . Located just steps away from iconic sites like the Space Needle, the hotel offers boutique rooms with luxurious amenities, such as plush mattresses and WiFi access.

The Maxwell also features an indoor pool and spa area so that guests can take a dip or relax after a long day of exploring the city. With its unbeatable location and wonderful amenities, The Maxwell Hotel is sure to offer travelers a memorable and enjoyable stay.

Pull relevant information from the sales page, from reviews on booking platforms, and from your personal experience. Stayapple The Maxwell Hotel offers many benefits for guests. Here are the top three:

1. An unbeatable location in downtown Seattle, with easy access to popular attractions, shopping districts, and parks. 2. Indoor pool 3. Luggage Storage and Concierge Service so you can drop your bags and explore the city.

Staying at the Staypineapple Maxwell Hotel has a few cons. One is that they charge a “resort fee” of $28 per night, which some travelers may consider too expensive. Another is that they do not offer any transportation to the port, so you will need to get a ride to the cruise port. Lastly, if you have a car, parking fees can be steep. All these cons should be considered before booking a stay at this hotel.

cruise port terminal hotel

4. Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites SeaTac, an IHG Hotel

⭐️  RATING:  3/5 Stars | 📍 LOCATION: 19621 International Boulevard, SeaTac ✅  Book it!

Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites SeaTac is the perfect place for cruisers who need an easy and stress-free stay before their voyage. With a free airport shuttle, transportation to the cruise port, and free breakfast served in a friendly atmosphere, this hotel makes it simple to have everything you need for your cruise all under one roof.

Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Sea Tac offers guests comfort, convenience, and top-notch service. The hotel is conveniently located near Seattle Tacoma International Airport. The complimentary shuttle makes getting there a breeze.

All rooms come with amenities like free Wifi, flat-screen TVs, and microwaves to make your stay comfortable. Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Sea-Tac provides exceptional customer service with friendly staff that are always on hand to help you with anything you may need during your stay.

Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Sea-Tac may not offer the most convenient location for those looking to explore Seattle’s attractions. It is located over 12 miles away from the city center, making it a bit of a trek to get to places like the Space Needle or Pike Place Market.

Additionally, there are limited transportation options available from the hotel to those attractions and they can be expensive. Furthermore, Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Sea-Tac is situated near an industrial and residential area, not providing much in terms of sightseeing opportunities.

<p>Washington State, including cities like Spokane and Tacoma, is another Pacific Northwest state with a high number of UFO sightings. Similar to Oregon, its natural environment and clear skies make it an ideal location for observing unexplained aerial phenomena.</p>

Seattle Cruise Ports

There are two cruise ports in Seattle. The Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91 and the Bell Street Cruise Terminal at Pier 66. Both offer great views of the city and easy access to downtown.

Couple on balcony of cruise ship at Pier 91 in Seattle

Smith Cove Cruise Terminal/Pier 91

This terminal is located 10 minutes North of Seattle and is the main cruise terminal in Seattle. Smith Cove Cruise Terminal is about 40 minutes (depending on Seattle traffic, which by the way can be awful), from the SeaTac Airport.

If you are flying in on the day of the cruise (which I strongly recommend you don’t do), plan on getting a flight that lands at least 3 hours before boarding. This gives you time to get your luggage and get a ride to the cruise terminal.

Even if you are staying downtown, give yourself a little extra time to get to the ship. Better to arrive early than late! If you don’t have a rental car or your own vehicle, you’ll need a ride to the cruise port. This private shuttle service is the top-rated transportation company in Seattle. Be sure and reserve ahead! ⤵️

⭐️ Pier 91 is used by Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Celebrity, Holland America, and Royal Caribbean. If you have a rental car or are driving yourself, parking is available for $27 per day and includes a shuttle to the cruise terminal. This should be reserved ahead can be booked online at  Republic Parking Northwest .

12 Seattle Cruise Hotels In Easy Walking Distance of the Port

Having sailed from Seattle to Alaska, we can tell you personally that it is a wonderful city to visit before or after your cruise. It’s a shame if you don’t stay for at least a day to explore. To help you out, we’ve put together some details on places to stay that are both near the cruise port and within lots to do and see.

cruise port terminal hotel

All of the hotels listed below are within a mile of the Pier 66 cruise terminal . This places you squarely in downtown, near many of the major attractions that Seattle has to offer. Unfortunately, there are no hotels directly adjacent to Pier 91 , as it is primarily industrial and residential in the adjoining neighborhoods. Still, a short Uber/Lyft ride can get you to the Pier 91 in about 10 minutes.

The honest truth is there are dozens of hotels that meet these requirements. We found nearly 90. For that reason, we’ve looked for the highest-rated hotels in each price point to share. Expect prices to vary. Click each hotel name to see reviews on Kayak.com

Visit our other pages for details on Seattle hotels with cruise parking , budget hotels near the port , and Seattle hotels with cruise shuttles .

High-End Hotels Near Seattle Cruise Port

Seattle Marriott Waterfront Want to be next to the port? We are talking right next to the port. The Seattle Marriott is the closest hotel to Pier 66 and sits just across the street from the cruise pier. Not only are you right at the ship, but you also are in a great location to explore everything in the area and have wonderful views of the bay. The only issue? Be prepared to spend a little extra for the location.

  • Distance to Port: Across the street
  • Review Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Inn at the Market This hotel occupies a unique niche if you’re staying in Seattle — it’s the only hotel that is located in the famous Pike Place Market (though there are several right nearby). The hotel is small, with only about 75 rooms that look out onto the waterfront. It’s floor-to-ceiling windows will also make sure you have a great view of the bay and the buzzing activity of the city. On cruise day you can easily walk to Pier 66.

  • Distance to Port: 0.5 miles

Hotel 1000 Hotel 1000 is a five-star luxury hotel that’s just a couple of blocks from the waterfront. This is a great location if you want to explore the Seattle Aquarium or the Seattle Art Museum. And did we mention the ability to walk to almost everything, a golf simulator, and a full-service spa?

  • Distance to Port: 0.1 miles

The Edgewater Hotel The Edgewater Hotel might be the most famous hotel in Seattle. It’s where The Beatles stayed in 1964 during their first world tour. As you might guess, it sits right on the waterfront at the pier next to Pier 66. In fact, wake up on cruise morning and you’ll see your ship out the window. The hotel gets great reviews, but just know that the premium location can cost a bit more.

  • Distance to Port: 0.8 miles

Four Seasons The venerable Four Seasons in Seattle has an epic location among the best the city has to offer. It’s just one block from the famous Pike Place market and two blocks from the aquarium. For those who want a room with a view, this is the place. Rooms have sweeping views of the waterfront. Of course, it also offers the service that the Four Seasons is known for.

  • Distance to Port: 0.6 miles

Mid-Range Hotels Near the Seattle Cruise Port

Grand Hyatt If you’re looking for a mainstream luxury hotel without the price tag, then Grand Hyatt might be your answer. The hotel is located on the edge of Seattle’s business district. This makes it a little long of a walk to waterfront attractions, but it still offers plenty of restaurants and activities within a short ride. In addition, the hotel offers plenty within its building, including a Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and a Starbucks.

  • Price: $$-$$$
  • Distance to Port: 1 mile

The Sound Hotel Seattle A relatively easy half-mile walk to Pier 66, The Sound Hotel is a good option for those that want to be near the port and have a nice place, without spending as much as some higher-end hotels. The hotel features a modern, trendy vibe and includes some rooms with great views of the Space Needle.

The Paramount Hotel The Paramount is in the heart of downtown, putting it a little far from the waterfront. Still, if you are looking for a comfortable place to stay during the busy cruise season, it’s a good choice. Expect all the conveniences of a modern luxury hotel, including a fitness center, contemporary styling, and well-appointed rooms.

Hyatt at Olive 8 The Hyatt at Olive 8 is next door to the Paramount Hotel, putting it somewhat far from Seattle’s famous waterfront and a 10-minute walk from Pike Place Market. Still, there’s lots to see and do nearby. One of the coolest features of the hotel is its indoor pool and spa that look out onto the city. At this spot you’re also a short ride on the Link train from T-Mobile Park where the Mariners play.

Inexpensive Hotels Near the Seattle Cruise Port

Ace Hotel If you’re like us, then you may not want to spend a ton of money just to get a spot near the port. That’s where places like Ace Hotel come in. The minimalist hotel’s location is just about five blocks from the port, putting you right in the heart of all the city has to offer. It’s unique in that it offer standard rooms with a shared bath (one of the reasons it can be affordable in such a prime location). If you don’t want to share a bathroom, deluxe rooms with private facilities are also available.

  • Distance to Port: 0.3 miles

MarQueen Hotel If you want to feel some of the history of Seattle while still being near the cruise port, this may be your best bet. The hotel markets itself as “stepping back into the time of speakeasies, eclectic style and charming hospitality” as it sits in the historic Uptown neighborhood. It’s near the Museum of Pop Culture and the Space Needle and right in between Pier 66 and Pier 91, making it a good location no matter where you sail from.

  • Distance to Port: 1.5 miles
  • Review Rating: 4 out of 5

La Quinta Inn Seattle Downtown La Quinta — the well-known national chain — offers a cozy spot to stay nearly a straight shot down Bell Street to the Pier 66 cruise terminal. Here you’re right next to a park and main thoroughfares that than get you to the Space Needle, Pacific Science Center, and more. The walk to the port will only take about 20 minutes and is less than a mile. In addition to clean and comfy rooms, wi-fi and breakfast is also included.

  • Distance to Port: 0.7 miles

Moore Hotel Staying at a budget hotel doesn’t mean your hotel has to sacrifice being trendy and hip. The Moore Hotel sits in a historic building and has been updated with a clean, minimalist design. It offers a great location, just a few minutes from Pike Place and the port via walking. One thing it doesn’t have is air-conditioning, but most of the weather in Seattle is cool anyway.

News | Developer search is officially launched for Outer Harbor cruise terminal in San Pedro

TORRANCE - 11/07/2012 - (Staff Photo: Scott Varley/LANG) Donna Littlejohn

For the past decade , the area has been viewed as a strategic spot for a second cruise center in San Pedro, offering more space for the larger, more extravagant ships now coming online amid an uptick in the pleasure cruise industry.

“We have seen increased demand for cruises out of the LA Waterfront over the last several years, with a record 1.3 million cruise passengers in 2023,” Port Executive Director Gene Seroka said in a written comment announcing the search for developers. “With more growth forecast, these projects will allow us to greatly expand our cruise business capacity while providing the best possible experience and convenience for cruise travelers.”

Proposals are due by 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Over the last two years, port officials said, more than 200 cruise ships have called in L.A.

And more cruise passengers — and much larger ships, carrying 4,000 passengers or more — are expected over the coming five years, port officials said.

Each cruise that calls at the port, officials said, generates more than $1 million in local economic activity.

The port’s Outer Harbor provides an expansive space for a cornerstone development with a flexible design that could also provide a variety of additional non-cruise, revenue-producing uses in the off-season, such as filming, conferences and events.

The site, near Warehouse One, consists of 13 acres of backland, two existing wharves and 20 acres of associated potential off-site parking with an estimated 2,300 spaces.

The existing World Cruise Center, at 100 Swinford St., meanwhile, consists of 22 acres, including parking, two cruise berths (Berths 90-93), two terminal buildings and a baggage handling structure. Costing $15 million overall, the main, $4.3 million building was dedicated in 1963.

The 1980s brought a cruise ship boom , thanks partly to television’s “Love Boat,” but as ships grew bigger and space along the waterfront dwindled, port officials decided it was time to add another terminal.

“Over the past 20 years, our port has invested over $1 billion in enhancing, operating and programming LA Waterfront infrastructure,” said Mike Galvin, the port’s director of Waterfront and Commercial Real Estate Development. “These two proposed cruise terminal projects represent the next stage of that investment, and the continued transformation of the waterfront into a dynamic and multiuse visitor destination.”

Some residents, though, have raised concerns about blocked ocean views, traffic and parking.

Those interested in applying can tour the two cruise terminal locations at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, by registering at this link .

The full Request for Proposals, or RFP, can be found at this link through the Port of Los Angeles.

Plans to pursue building an Outer Harbor terminal are not new, but were delayed by the pandemic, which essentially shut down the cruise industry. An earlier RFP process was getting underway in 2019 but was halted when the pandemic hit in 2020.

Currently, the area already is used for overflow cruise ship docking space. It offers panoramic views of the coastline and Catalina Island and has been eyed as a second cruise terminal spot for a decade.

One of the Oldest Cities of the United States

Boston is the capital of Massachusetts. Rich in history, it’s one of the oldest cities of the United States and the birthplace of American independence. The city is the administrative, financial center and New England’s largest city.

Deciding to spend additional time in Boston before or after a cruise is a great way to extend your vacation. Using the ferry service to discover this city is economical, fast and scenic. Hotels and motels in Boston ma can be found all over the city. Staying at one of the discount hotels is a way for the cruise traveler to stretch their budget to enjoy the highlights of the city.

Boston retains a pleasant small town atmosphere, with old streets in Charlestown which still feature old style gas lamps and charming brick sidewalks. Wander around Back Ray in downtown Boston where streets are lined with Victorian brownstone houses and lovely hotels. Head to Beacon Street for a glimps of the “Cheers Bar”, which modelled in the 80s sitcom.

History lovers will enjoy the Freedom Trail. Take your time and walk and learn more about historic facts. Starting point for the Freedom Trail is Boston Common, one of America’s most beautiful parks. Interesting is a visit to the 18th century Faneuil Hall, located in the centre of the city next to Quince Market. It’s the birthplace of democracy. Couple blocks away is Long Wharf, one of the most popular docks of the Port of Boston.

From the seaport you can take exciting whalewatching trips, smooth sailing or boat tours to the harbor islands and romantic evening cruises. Fun for families with kids is a visit to the USS Constitution Museum ship. See the crew dressed in historical navy clothing and learn what life was like at sea over 200 years ago.

Shopping — for shopping enthusiasts, Boston is well known for its abundant shops and boutiques. Newbury Street, also known as the “5th Avenue” of Boston, is one of the finest shopping areas of the city.

Cambridge — nearby Cambridge across the Charles River is home to Harvard University, the USA’s oldest and most prestigious university, and The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) private research university.

Pre or Post cruise lodging with (free) airport and shuttle service to the pier

Some hotels offer a complimentary transport shuttle service to/and from the airport, and to the Black Falcon cruise ship terminal.

Downtown Boston hotel rooms are a bit more expensive but are a cheap cab ride to the pier. If Boston sightseeing is not part of your plan, a good bet is to find a well priced hotel or affordable motel stay along route 128/95, 90, 93 or 495 for juts one night.
