What makes for a good wildlife safari.

A comfortable vehicle and good snacks are a must for a fun day on safari, but what makes our tours exceptional are our incredibly passionate and knowledgeable guides! Each of our guides have unique backgrounds in wildlife and all share the same love for our parks and the animals. This is more than just a job to them and part of the thrill of guiding is sharing the experience with their guests when you see your first wild grizzly, or watch a herd of bison in their ancient natural range. Our expert guides equipped with our high-quality optics for up close viewing is sure to deliver a wildlife safari that you will never forget!

How should I prepare for my first animal safari?

One thing to know about Yellowstone and Grand Teton is that the weather is unpredictable. It’s not impossible to see snow in July! Even on hot summer days the mornings and evenings can be cold, so be sure to pack layers to prepare for varying temperatures. If you are coming from lower elevations, take your time and drink plenty of water. Don’t worry, there will be lots of restroom opportunities! Cell phone cameras have come a long way and will certainly do the job, but if you have a camera with a longer zoom be sure to bring it with you. There are no guarantees with wildlife, so keep an open mind. Wild animals are on their own schedules and there’s always a chance you won’t see the one thing you were hoping for. However, there are so many amazing things to see in these parks that you will not be disappointed!

How to tour from Jackson Hole to Yellowstone?

One of the best things about touring Yellowstone from Jackson Hole is that you get the bonus of traveling through Grand Teton National Park on the way. The roughly 50-mile drive between Jackson and the South Entrance is thoroughly enjoyable as you start with the sunrise hitting the jagged peaks of the Teton mountain range. You will have stunning scenery before you even reach the gate, and you may be surprised how many animals you see on the journey! All of this is possible on a day tour and you’ll be picked up and dropped off at your place of lodging. Seeing the best of Yellowstone has never been easier!

The full day Grand Teton National Park tour will begin close to sunrise to maximize the hours of the day when wildlife is most active. Your naturalist guide will seek out wildlife hotspots, often off the beaten path on unmarked dirt roads in our comfortable 4wheel drive safari vehicles. Make use of our high quality spotting scopes and binoculars to peak in on the daily habits of local fauna, including moose, elk, bison, pronghorn antelope, mule deer, wolves, black bears, grizzly bears, bald eagles, and trumpeter swans.

After a morning session of uninterrupted wildlife observation, we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch on the shore of Jackson Lake or another scenic location.  After a relaxing lunch, we’ll continue to explore the natural landscape of the park and if desired by the group, we’ll embark on a short walk on one of the lesser known trails, along easy terrain, to observe the smaller wonders of this park. We had a great time on the half day x country ski tour with Laura and would definitely recommend. (Especially for first timers.) We learned a a lot about the area, wildlife and general snow knowledge along our trip. We had a lucky run in with a bison crossing on our way out to the trail. She also brought snacks, water and coca!

Jackson Hole EcoTour Adventures is amazing! Picked us up from our rental, had AMAZING snacks, hot coffee, hot cocoa, beverages, etc. Our guide Sarah was extremely knowledgeable (and eagle-eyed at spotting wildlife) and really great to spend the morning with. We saw 15 moose, a fox, a bunch of raptor birds, coyotes, big horn sheep, some interesting fish and smaller birds. It was a great way to see a lot in a short amount of time with a great guide! 5/5 experience!

We brought our oldest grandchild and his buddy to Jackson, Wyoming from Gainesville, GA. We asked our grandson to pick where in the U.S. he would like us to take him and he picked here! While visiting, I was able to book a private wildlife tour with EcoTours through Trip Advisor. Ryan was our fabulous guide who picked us up at our front door with a fantastic disposition and a very clean vehicle. Ryan is extremely knowledgeable about the JH area and so many animals but what was more impressive was his respect for the parks, the ecosystems, the animals…EVERYTHING. I highly recommend requesting Ryan. We opted for the early bird time slot which did not disappoint. We saw fox, elk, an enormous herd of bison, pronghorns, mule deer, sandhill cranes, mountain bluebirds, badgers and even heard a native grouse doing its mating call. Of course we wish we had seen bear or moose’s but our trip was so incredible we didn’t miss a beat. The vehicle is equipped with a snack/coffee/juice bar in the back and Ryan graciously served us snacks, coffee and juice along with a complimentary water bottle. As we approached the highest Grand Teton point along our drive we even saw a wedding taking place. The binoculars that are provided for the tour are Swarovski Optiks (they are partnered with them) and you have an opportunity to purchase them at a discounted rate. I absolutely took advantage of this offer and look forward to taking them on our African Micato Tour in two months. This outfit is outstanding in every way. I highly recommend them. Let me just say one more time, I highly recommend them!

Truly enjoyed the 1/2 day tour. Our guide, Bo, really knew the best places to spot wildlife and found several moose, elk, bison, coyote, bighorn sheep and a fox. He even spotted bear prints in the snow and was a wealth of information. He brought some animal artifacts to allow us to experience what the bison's fur or horns and the elk horns feel like. He explained how moose shed their massive horns. Seeing the wildlife and understanding where and when they give birth, how they escape predators and how they play a vital part in the circle of life. Bo was also a mindful host, providing us with water and snacks. This was a very special treat for my brother and his family who were visiting us from Germany. Bo had the perfect equipment to help us spot the sometimes hidden or distant wildlife and even shared his videos after the tour. I would highly recommend this company and hope to one day do a snow tour in Yellowstone with them too.

We have been in Jackson and it has not been the warmest environment both weather and personality until we did this tour! Drew guided us to see bison, elk, coyote, eagles, mountain rams, moose, mule deer, beaver and ravens. He was so full of knowledge and had us warm and toasty. Plenty of snacks and drinks with local fare. This made my trip to the area worth it! So grateful for this to see the rugged splendor of God’s creation.

Just finished our Sunrise tour with Harlan this morning. It was outstanding and far beyond our expectations. It was by far the most well done tour we have done in our cross country tours. Harlan has such a depth of knowledge of animals, the ecosystem and the importance of protecting it. The Coffee and muffin were a nice touch to get the day going but I really liked the complimentary water bottle. If your are traveling this way and want a great experience in the Tetons or Yellowstone asked for Harlan at EcoTour. (I'm sure they are all great though)

Oh my goodness! Our family just finished another incredible hour-day adventure with this amazing company. We cannot recommend it highly enough. We saw heart-stopping wildlife, stayed in historic hotels, and learned all about the GYE (Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem) from two super smart and uber qualified guides, Eric and Bo. In addition to showing us so many things we would never have found on our own, Eric and Bo took great care of all of us (age 12 to age 79!). They were incredibly kind and respectful to my mother, and never failed to ensure she had a wonderful experience. I am proud to support a company that is doing so much for Yellowstone. The owner, Taylor, values his employees, demonstrates corporate responsibility, and genuinely cares about the community. What a treat! We will back again. And again. And again.

Photo of Vinay S.

I went on three tours with the company in two days, and only have great things things to say about the guides and my experience on the tours. I did the Grand Teton full day tour with Kelsey, Grand Teton sunset tour with Jason and Yellowstone full day tour with Tyler. Found amazing wildlife in all the three tours, and yeah WE DID SPOT A GRIZZLY in June! :) Kelsey: She is an amazing person, keeps you engaged with her dry humor, and has great personal stories to share with you. She is so passionate about conserving wildlife and geological ecosystems, she even gets out of her way to clear away an illegal campfire that might cause wild fires. She has tons of information to share about geological ecosystems, not just limited to Grand Teton and Yellowstone. She cares for everyone on the tour and makes sure everyone is comfortable. Jason: Where do I even start about Jason? He is always in high spirits, moves heaven and earth to make sure the group gets all it is looking for. He is well versed in wildlife behavior and its movements. He is so persistent that we ended up being the only group that spotted a grizzly when the bear watchers were waiting on it for hours. You are in great hands if you have Jason as your guide Tyler: Another huge geology nerd, that has an answer to any related question you might have. Works very hard to make sure everyone in the group gets something of what they are looking for. Always willing to put in an extra effort to meet the demands of the group. Recommendation: You can book a tour with them without a second thought. No one can guarantee a specific wildlife spotting, but they will do their best to make sure you get what you want out of your trip.

So glad that we booked this tour! We did a full day combo tour with wildlife viewing in the morning and snowshoeing in the afternoon. Our guide, Raf, was awesome! He showed us moose, bison, bighorn sheep, bald eagles and more. He was so knowledgeable on the local wildlife, geology and history. They provided great binoculars and Raf set us up for some awesome views on his spotting scope. We had a fantastic lunch at Creekside Market and then we went snowshoeing. It was so much fun and we had some of the most amazing views. Raf was kind enough to take some great pictures of us. It was such a fun day and we are so glad that we took this tour.

Ryan was outstanding! One of the best family experience we have ever had. He was very knowledgeable about the area. We saw many different wildlife (2 moose, bear, hundreds of Buffalo, 15 pronghorn antelope, diving ducks and a beaver). We had A ton of opportunity to take the most beautiful pictures of Grand Teton landscapes. Ryan was kind enough to bring the most yummy snacks and drinks! You will not be disappointed by booking this tour, AND ASK FOR RYAN!!!

Went on an AMAZING tour today with Sarah E. She was knowledgeable - delightful & made great coffee!! Within 20 minutes of pick-up I was watching Moose! Soon afterwards, we were watching a bear in a tree. The day truly exceeded my expectations. I learned SO much & was treated to videos via Airdrop after some of our stops. Debated about doing the tour initially, but it was well worth it.

We did a morning tour with a great guide His name was Veryl I believe, wish I knew for certain cause he was so awesome and had lots of information on our tour!! I highly recommend this snow shoeing tour to everyone It was our first time ever snow shoeing and we had a blast! He had snacks for us after we got a cool water bottle souvenir filled with water to drink during our adventure. We saw a silver fox, a sweet little weasel and lots of animal tracks including a couple of trees with "scars" from bears climbing up So cool!!

We booked this tour and weren't sure what to expect, but everyone we spoke to recommended it. I am so glad that we did. Kelsey picked us up at our hotel, and for the next four hours, we felt like we were driving around with our very knowledgeable, worldly, fun friend......who has a cool coffee/hot chocolate setup in the back. We saw a coyote hunting moments after Kelsey explained it, so we knew when he stopped and started listening what was happening. She also recorded video and took pics for us that we love and will cherish as part of our Jackson Hole adventure. This tour is worth the money. Especially with Kelsey
