Galactic Empire is the galaxy’s foremost instrumental Star Wars cosplay heavy metal John Williams tribute band. Their first music video was a viral hit, gaining over 10 million views with national press coverage including Huffington Post, Guitar World, Entertainment Weekly, and MSNBC, along with a live TV performance on E! Entertainment during their coverage of the 2016 Academy Awards. The band has released two full-length albums with Rise Records (produced and mixed by Carson and Grant), along with four more music videos.

They’ve toured extensively, headlining multiple national and overseas tours, including Canada, Europe, Japan, and Australia, along with appearances at major festivals, comic cons, sporting events, and supporting arena acts Ozzy Osbourne and Babymetal. In 2022, the band signed with Pure Noise Records and released their third studio LP “Special Edition” on May 3. The band is primed to continue their journey toward becoming the ultimate power in the universe.

I was really happy to see these guys on their first tour. The stage props and costumes were really well done. Above all, the musical arrangement was amazing, and the setlist was totally rad. They made the 8-year-old star wars fanatic child and 22-year-old metalhead in me party at the same time. 10/10 will see them the next time I can.

Show was absolutely phenomenal. The songs were great, there was plenty of comedy throughout the show as well. The band is excellent and I would definitely love to see them again.

Not all that long ago in a galaxy not all that far away… A band the likes of which the universe had never seen was formed for one purpose — to create an unstoppable musical “force” known as GALACTIC EMPIRE.

By reinterpreting classic selections from legendary composer JOHN WILLIAMS’ iconic scores from the STAR WARS SAGA into guitar driven heavy metal, GALACTIC EMPIRE has created a musical juggernaut feared in many systems.

Meet Galactic Empire, the heavy metal Star Wars covers band

Picture the scene: a Stormtrooper takes the bass and Boba Fett plays drums while Darth Vader and two Sith employees shred on guitar, playing adapted versions of John Williams’ iconic Star Wars compositions live to an audience of cosplaying  Star Wars  fans. There’s actually no need to picture it, because in early February 2017, that scene will play out across a load of UK venues. This is Galactic Empire, the metal band playing the gnarliest Star Wars  melodies ever heard.

As Rogue One: A Star Wars Story   hit UK cinemas, NME  spoke to the band’s frontman, Darth Vader (Chris Kelly) about the origins of the project, their self-titled debut (out February 3), and what fans can expect at their UK shows next year…

When did you decide to make an album of Star Wars music? “Our drummer, Grant McFarland (aka Boba Sett) made a drum video of himself playing along to the Imperial March a few years ago. Eventually he thought to expand on that idea by adding guitars to the arrangement, which then snowballed into an entire album’s worth of material.”

How did you go about adapting John Williams ’ music to play as a band? “Grant and our bassist Carson Slovak (aka Bass Commander) did most of the leg work on that. My job was just to figure out how to make it playable. They spent months separating each section of the original orchestrations and making sure nothing was overlooked. There is not a single part of the original pieces that isn’t represented in our arrangements.”

How is your live show different from other bands ’? “We’re a Star Wars metal band. That in itself is pretty unusual. Iconic music paired with a professional light show and hopefully an audience full of fans in costumes should hopefully make for a truly memorable experience for everyone.”

Should fans be worried of your choking power, Darth? “Unless they are members of the Rebel Alliance, traitors, or have failed me at least once, they should not worry about meeting the business end of my power.”

Where do your suits come from?  “Our armour is forged by a master craftsman with only the galaxy’s finest materials. Also Amazon.”

Doesn’t it get hot performing in them? “It gets hot performing in street clothes so I can’t even imagine what these new costumes are going to feel like. We’re doing everything we can to make our live costumes as light and breathable as possible, but it will inevitably be a show that requires a water break every now and then.”

What other challenges do you face when you ’re performing? “Aside from playing and maneuvering in the costumes, just remembering these songs every night is something I’m sure we’re all sweating a bit. This is easily the most daunting material any of us have ever taken on as musicians, but we’re all extremely excited to bring it to our fans.”

Does Emperor Palpatine approve? “Upon reviewing our progress, the Emperor said, and I quote: ‘Gooooooooood’.”

Do you consider yourselves evil or is the spread of the Galactic Empire only a good thing? “ There is no good and evil. There is only the force… and the correct side of it which, of course, is the Dark Side.”

How excited are you for Rogue One ? “We are excited for anything and everything involving Star Wars . I know a lot of people were skeptical of Disney taking over the franchise, but I personally am stoked on the timeline they’ve released for the saga. I can’t wait to see how it progresses.”

Finally – what will you do to Rebels who come to your shows? “I believe there was some talk of choking earlier.”

Long-awaited x-men rematch confirmed in new deadpool & wolverine trailer, the ending of dexter was revealed way before the finale.

Galactic Empire is coming to a US town near you this summer to annihilate your ears. Galactic Empire is a Star Wars themed metal band that play covers of, you guessed it, Star Wars songs. The instrumental band consists of 5 members, each one dressed as a different character from the Empire. Darth Vader shreds a guitar, Boba Fett rocks the drums (Mr. Fett wasn't a part of the Empire though) and an Imperial Guard and few stormtroopers round out the heavy metal Death Star. The band coerced Rise Records to put out their debut record earlier this year and now they're coming to rock a town near you to see whether they blow up earth or not.

The band recently completed a successful Kickstarter campaign to record their debut record, film a video, and make modifications to their officially licensed costumes (more on that later) so that they can play their instruments live. Galactic Empire was able to raise an insane $61,000 to the Dark Side of the Force . I would love to see a breakdown of how the cash was spent because that's a ridiculous amount of money considering bands record albums in their bedrooms these days and music videos can be made in the same bedroom on the same computer. Anyway, they raised the cash and now they're going on a US summer tour to bring their sonic terror to the masses.

The band has played sporadic shows and even recently completed a tour of the UK, but this will be the first true US tour and the band seems to be excited about it, though it's hard to tell with those masks on. Speaking of masks, it appears as though Disney and Lucasfilm weren't too happy about others making money off of the Star Wars brand and probably put the kibosh on the Galactic Empire's look. The band is now forced to wear knock-off suits that are now more comical than menacing. And those modifications to their suits that were mentioned earlier are merely taking off the gloves to play the guitar, which is a good thing because it's impossible to play guitar with gloves on. The thing that Galactic Empire really has going for them is their musical chops. Who knew Darth Vader could sweep pick and play gnarly arpeggios or that Boba Fett was such an accomplished metal drummer?

Galactic Empire is now one of the many theme bands out today trying to make a go with it. One of the better theme bands out there today along with Galactic Empire of course, is Mac Sabbath. They dress like McDonalds characters mixed with a Black Sabbath look and play McDonalds themed music to the tune of Black Sabbath. Some choice song titles are "Sweet Beef" and "Never Say Diet." Hamburgler and Lord Vader should have a guitar duel, I'd pay to see that.

Formed in 1977, X quickly established themselves as one of the best bands in the first wave of LA's flourishing punk scene; becoming legendary leaders of a punk generation. Featuring vocalist Exene Cervenka, vocalist/bassist John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom, and drummer DJ Bonebrake, their debut 45 was released on the seminal Dangerhouse label in 1978, followed by seven studio albums released from 1980-1993. Over the years, the band has released several critically acclaimed albums, topped the musical charts with regularity and performed their iconic hits on top television shows such as Letterman and American Bandstand. X’s first two studio albums, Los Angeles and Wild Gift are ranked by Rolling Stone among the top 500 greatest albums of all time. The band continues to tour with the original line-up fully intact. In 2017, the band celebrated their 40th year anniversary in music with a Grammy Museum exhibit opening, a Proclamation from the City of Los Angeles and being honored at a Los Angeles Dodgers game where Exene threw out the first pitch and John Doe sang the National Anthem. In 2020, X celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Los Angeles.

In 2019 X reissued and remastered their first four classic albums via their collaboration with Fat Possum Records. Los Angeles (1980), Wild Gift (1981), Under The Big Black Sun (1982) and More Fun In The New World (1983). In addition, the band recently re-entered the recording studio for the first time since 1984.

A collection of original songs, Alphabetland, were recorded with producer Rob Schnapf in two sessions. In Nov 2018 the band joined together to record fresh material for the first time since 1985’s Ain’t Love Grand. Five songs were recorded over the course of two days with producer Rob Schnapf. The first of these new songs is the recorded version of an older X song, "Delta 88 Nightmare," which previously was only included as a bonus track on the 2001 reissue of "Los Angeles" in demo form - never as a fully recorded and mixed track. The song was released as a 7" with the flip side being the newly recorded "Cyrano de Berger's Back,” one of the earliest songs John wrote for the band that became X. This past January 2020 the band re-entered the studio to finish recording the album, again with Rob Schnapf and seven more original tracks were laid down, 11 of the songs appear on this album. It was released via Bandcamp on April 22nd and landed on streaming platforms as of May 1, 2020. Physical release plans are tentatively scheduled for August, 2020.

The band continues to tour with the original line-up: Exene Cervenka, John Doe, Billy Zoom and DJ Bonebrake.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
