The Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal is one of the two ferry ports servicing boats taking passengers to and from Hong Kong and Macau.

This is also the primary terminal for TurboJet services.

Other facilities at the Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal include ATMs, currency exchange stalls, banks, and travel agencies. Vending machines sell SIM cards that can be used in both Hong Kong and Macau so that you can always stay connected. Meanwhile, departures arrive on the second floor of the terminal. There are ticket counters and self-service kiosks from where you can buy tickets.

The TurboJet ticketing office, as well as the kiosk, is also located on the second floor.  The Premier Lounge is located on Level 2, outside the restricted area.

Lastly, on the third floor, passengers can enjoy dining and shopping facilities while waiting to board a ferry. There are boutiques selling travel essentials and cafes serving coffee, sandwiches, and other delicious food. Souvenir shops are found here, too.

How to Get from Hong Kong to Macau

From Hong Kong to Macau, there are three modes of transportation: sea, land, and air. We suggest that you travel to Macau by ferry, which is the most convenient and economical.

By ferry (most recommended): It takes about 1 hour by boat from Hong Kong to Macau. The one-way fare is about 170KD. The fare for night ferries or holidays will be slightly more expensive.

By bridge (a new and comfortable way): Take the bus over the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge from Hong Kong port to Macau in just 40 minutes.

By helicopter (the coolest): It takes only 15 minutes to take a direct flight from Hong Kong to Macau, however the price is 4,300 HKD one way.

Hong Kong to Macau by Ferry

1. Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal (preferred, most frequent ferries)

Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal is near the IFC Towers in the Shun Tak Centre on Hong Kong Island. You can take the subway and get off at Shueng Wan Station. During the daytime, there is a boat every 15 minutes.

2. China Ferry Terminal (recommended, good location)

China Ferry Terminal is in Tsim Sha Tsui. It is about a kilometer north of the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry. You could walk to it through Harbour City Mall, or just take a taxi to 33 Canton Road.

3. Sky Pier at the Hong Kong International Airport (for transiting tourists only)

The terminal is located next to the Hong Kong airport. If you plan to take a boat directly from Hong Kong airport to Macau, you can choose to depart from this terminal.

4. Tuen Mun Ferry Terminal (Generally not recommended, inconvenient location)

This terminal is located in the New Territories, which is not popular for tourists. There are less than 10 ferries traveling between Hong Kong and Macau every day. This terminal is only practical if you are staying nearby.

Macau Ferry Terminals

It doesn't matter which port to go to Macau because Macau is not big. No matter which terminal you arrive at, there are free shuttle buses that can deliver you to any hotel or casino.

1. Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal (close to downtown Macau)

Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal, also known as the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, is the main northern terminal closest to San Ma Lo, architectural attractions, and about 23 mainly smaller casinos. 

You can take Bus 3 from San Ma Lo to the Macau Ferry Terminal in about 10 minutes for 2.5 HKD.

2. Taipa Terminal (close to casinos, hotels, airports)

Taipa Terminal is to the south, closest to the Cotai Strip area with the biggest casinos such as the Venetian, the City of Dreams across the street, and the Macau International Airport. 

To go to the Taipa Terminal, take the Cotai Jet from any of the three Hong Kong terminals. There are late night returns (at 1 AM) from the Cotai Terminal to the Hong Kong Macau Terminal.

Ferry Tickets: Costs and Where to Buy Them

Ferry prices are higher in the evening and highest at night, and higher at weekends and holidays.

• For economy class, the prices are from 171 to 211 HKD for a single trip.
• For superior/first class, the prices are from 346 to 391 HKD for a single trip.

You can buy ferry tickets at every ferry terminal as well as online. Usually, it is no problem to buy tickets on the spot except on some festival days. If you would like to skip long lines, you'd better arrive early or buy tickets online.

Getting from Hong Kong to Macau by Bridge

The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge, the longest sea-crossing in the world, connects the cities of Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Macau. This crossing is open 24 hours.

There are shuttle buses going from Hong Kong to Macau at all hours, they cost 65 HKD normally (70 HKD at night: 12-6 AM). The buses take around 45 minutes.

In Hong Kong, there are direct shuttle buses starting from Hong Kong Airport, Tsim Sha Tsui and Central to Macau via the bridge.

Hong Kong – Macau Group Tour

Duration: approx. 8 hours Available: Not Available Now

Note: 1 day before departure, you will get a fax with detailed information about pick up time, pick-up place (and directions if no free pick up at your hotel), itinerary, sightseeing information, and emergency number of the tour operator in your hotel in Hong Kong.

Around 8am: Your guide in Hong Kong pick you up from a designated hotel in downtown Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay, or North Point.

Around 9am: Arrive at Hong Kong – Macau Ferry Port and depart for Macau by comfortable Turbojet. Your Hong Kong guide will give you your Turbojet tickets and see you off at the pier.

In the morning: After one hour you arrive at Macau. You will be met by your Macau guide and led to the coach. Explore the Ruins of St. Paul, Monte Fortress, including a section of the old city wall, and Senado Square. See the Border Gate and do shop for local souvenirs at the sidewalk stalls.

Simple buffet lunch in a local restaurant: Choose from a selection of main dishes, soup, vegetables, desserts, and drinks.

In the afternoon: Continue city sightseeing with a visit to the A-Ma Temple, from which Macau gets its name! Visit the famous casinos for a look around if time permits.

Around 5pm: Your Macau guide will see you off at the Macau –Hong Kong Ferry Pier and you return to Hong Kong by comfortable Turbojet. Guilde and driver in Hong Kong meet you and drop you off at the designated hotel.

Instructions

• To ensure your booking, please let us know your Hong Kong hotel information and contact number at least two days before departure . The designated hotel pick-up points change daily, depending on demand.
• Hotel pick-up and drop-off is the same unless specified. Consult with your tour guide and driver if you want to get out somewhere else.
• You need a passport and maybe a visa. If you require a Macau visa that is your responsibility. Most nationalities don't. Macau visa fee (about HK$100) is not included in the tour price. In general it takes a few minutes to complete the process of issuing visa, but in peak season, it takes longer. It depends on how many passengers queue in line. Our tour guide in Hong Kong will explain to you how to apply for a Macau visa upon arrival. 
• If you want to visit other attractions like the Macau Tower, you can get back to Hong Kong at night, we can book Turbojet tickets with night sailing at 21:00 and tour guide will pass return tickets to clients on that day (upon picking up or meeting at pier).
• Transfers to Macau Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal and transfers to hotel in Hong Kong are arranged on your own.

Other Considerations

• Since it is a group tour, sometimes you will need to wait until everybody arrives in Macau from different boats in the morning. Please be patient .
• The tour does not have shops, factories, and unscheduled stops unless passengers request them. Report any violations .
• Don't wear shorts or casual slip-on footwear if you wish to be accepted in the casinos (some have stricter dress codes).
• Please note that during the Christmas and New Year period there may be delays at immigration and re-routing of traffic around the major tourist areas.
• If you are vegetarian or Muslim , you are suggested to take snacks on your own or choose the dishes you can have during buffet time.

What To Do In Macau In One Day Without Staying Overnight??

How to get to macau from hong kong by ferry, what to do after you arrive in macau.

Macau has a lot to offer. I would have liked to send more than 24 hours, but unless you have more than a week in Hong Kong , it would be hard to justify more than just a day trip. For a one day itinerary, I would recommend an early start, as early as you can manage and focus on the colonial UNESCO  sites during the day and then in the evening taking in all that casino glitz and glam…

I have outlined the main sites by day and night below, but the Grand Prix was on when we were there, which slowed things significantly, so you will likely have time for more! You might also want to read my more recent Macau Itinerary for fresh ideas.

However, if you do fancy making it more than one night – Macau books up fast! Especially with all the events and conventions it hosts, not to mention the weekend!

Book early to get the best rates. You can find the best deals for Macau accommodation here – and many have free cancellation if your plans change closer to the time!

This is the easiest way from Hong Kong, though the new Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge has recently opened and now offers bus services.

Ferry prices are higher for return sailings in the evening and highest late at night. You can always return earlier but not later than the ticketed time, but you will be on standby, which we found out was a long and arduous process. Best to try stick with the time that suits you (remembering that some parts of Macau are best seen after dark!) and book you Macau Ferry ticket in advance.

How to Get to Macau From Hong Kong:  Hong Kong Terminals

China Ferry Terminal is in Tsim Sha Tsui, or Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal is near the IFC Towers in the Shun Tak Center on Hong Kong Island. Price: 132 to 172 HKD (single trip, economy class).

The ferry also departs from the Sky Pier at the Hong Kong International Airport but is for transiting tourists only.

How to Get to Macau From Hong Kong:   Macau Terminals

Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal is the main northern terminal closest to the old town while Cotai Terminal is to the south, closest to the Cotai Strip area with the biggest casinos. Ferries rarely sell out, but I would recommend trying to enter the Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal and leaving out of Cotai.

Still, it doesn’t really matter as Macau is a rather small place and is plied by free casino buses!

Yes, best not to plan your Macau day trip from Hong Kong  when the Grand Prix is on – Unless you actually want to be part of the chaos!

On arrival, we stumbled across the Macau Grand Prix, a global motor racing series event that is held in Macau in November. It takes place in Montreal , Melbourne , Mexico City – and soon, nearby Hanoi, among other places annually. 

 If you are interested and in the area, in November, I would highly recommend getting tickets and going across for the night, so you still have a full day to see Macau. If you are not concerned, I would avoid or re-plan to avoid the weekend as Macau will be so packed to the brim and clogged up with traffic jams – it’s not worth it! 

Start your  Macau day trip from Hong Kong at the Grand Lisboa – The tallest building in Macau! One of the best t hings to do in Macau in one day is also just to wander the streets!

We took advantage of the Grand Lisboa Casino shuttle on arrival to take us to their casino. It is also near the Wynn, the MGM, and StarWorld if you want to check those out.

This group is located close to the historic Macau. In contrast, the other casinos are located on the Cotai Strip, across the bridge, and somewhat inaccessible due to being on a different island!. As we had limited time, we could only see one group at night, but I would highly suggest trying to come back here to view these casinos at night too!

Plus, if you have more time, there are so many more things to do in Macau!

Amazing colors and look at the pavement!! – We were, however, very easy to spot as one of like three westerners there.  What is Macau Famous For? This incredible tile plaza for sure! 

From here, it is a quick 15 min walk to a highlight of Old Macau – Senado Square (Largo do Senado). This is the public square of Macau and a great introduction to the area. It is located in the central area of the Macau Peninsula, and in 2005 it was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List as it forms part of the Historic Centre of Macau site.

Around Senado Square, there are also plenty of other attractions. To the east of the square is Macau Cathedral, and at the end of the paved road is St. Domingo’s Church.  The Lou Kau Mansion is found in the northeast of the square.

The Macau Tourism Board actually has made some beneficial walking tours based on interests. They also have produced a comprehensive iPhone app to make your trip go more smoothly, which you might want to grab before you go!

What is Macau Famous For?…. In a Word …This!  Oh, to see this on a sunny day would be a thing of beauty – But oh well, grey and overcast, it is still lovely!

Walk to the north of the church, and you will arrive at the Ruínas de S. Paulo (Ruins of St. Paul’s). This is the most famous landmark in Macau. Right at the east of the Ruínas de S. Paulo is the Museu de Macau (Macau Museum), in which historical relics of Macau are exhibited.

On the day we visited, it was insanely crowded – Like ridiculously crowded, fight your way through oblivious masses of selfie stick-wielding tourists, makes you want to go home crowded. Hopefully, this is just to do with the Grand Prix…

Either way, I still have to say it was worth it !!… The Ruins of St. Paul’s are simply amazing, making for great photos and have a stunning view to take in of the old town from its steps. It would be a great place to enjoy lunch on the weekdays too!

What is Macau Famous For? The Margaret Egg Tart Macau, of course.  Such deliciousness must be proof of sorcery and that witches live among us … Top of the list for t hings to do in Macau in one day

Speaking of lunch, you have have HAVE to try the Portuguese Macau egg tart – They are so delicious that you will buy 3 to share … and then just eat them all yourself. Not that I would do that — but they do make an excellent reward for surviving the masses. I think this is the definition of stress eating.

The egg tart is found all over Canton and China, but there at subtle differences in taste between Cantonese and Macau Portuguese style egg tarts. The visible traits are quite apparent due to the slightly burnt top, which creates a hint of caramelization (think crème Brulee), that you only get with the local Macau egg tarts. Its also quite different then those you might be familiar with in Lisbon or Porto.

While they have egg tarts on every street corner in Macau, there are two clear standouts: Lord Stow’s Bakery , founded by Andrew Stow, or Margaret’s Cafe / Margaret Egg Tart Macau, found near the Historic City Centre in Macau.

Interestingly enough, founder Margaret was formerly married to Andrew Stow.  At some point, they parted ways, and now there are two separate egg tart giants in Macau. So which is best, Lord Stows or Margaret’s?

This is a long-running debate among locals and fans of the Macau egg tarts. Most have a preference for one over the other, but in the end, they are both excellent choices and far out-shine the competition, so go with whichever is closest – better yet, try both!

When the sun goes down, the lights come out … And boy oh boy, do they come out!   What is Macau Famous For? PARTY TIME!!!!

After you have enjoyed an egg tart (or 3), be sure to work it off with a brisk walk through nearby Casa and Camoes Garden. This is a hilly, heavily wooded garden formed part of the grounds of the house, which was occupied by the Chairman of the British East India Company and finish up in Temple Tou Tei. From here (on nearby Rua da Ribeira do Patane) catch the 26A towards Hac Sa Beach to the Venetian and City of Dreams!

This is the end of the historic tour part and now time to see the new Macau – The one whose gambling takes in 6 weeks is what Las Vegas makes in an entire year!! Though before you switch islands, you could be tempted by the Macau Tower Bungy Jump .

This is crazy – Look at that sky! Its never get that blue outside (at-least in Macau or Hong Kong!!), and you get to enjoy air-con! WIN! Helps make your  Macau Day Trip From Hong Kong a little more relaxing!

The Venetian Macao is a 39-story, $2.4 billion anchors for the seven hotels on the Cotai Strip in Macau. It is modeled on its sister casino resort, The Venetian Las Vegas , and is the seventh-largest building in the world by floor area. The Venetian Macao is also the largest casino in the world and the largest single structure hotel building in Asia — because, the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore is technically multiple buildings. 

Officially opened on August 28, 2007, the casino welcomed its eight millionth customer in just 133 days after launch – That is just insane number! Over 2x the population of New Zealand in 8 months!!

And that is why it is so hard to decide w hat to see in Macau in one day!

The Venetian offers over 30 restaurants with cuisines from around the world, and the Grand Canal has 51 gondolas with serenading gondoliers that ply the waters of the Venetian’s three indoor canals and outdoor lagoon. It’s nowhere near as stunning as the real thing but is still nice…

There are also over 350 brand name retail stores at the Grand Canal Shoppe – nowhere in Asia is there more luxury shops crammed into a single space.

You’ll want to extend your credit limit to go shopping with a red carpet line up that includes COACH, Calvin Klein, and Tiffany…I skipped on this to save funds and time, but if you’re interested, this would be the spot for you!

Well actually almost every store we saw was empty except for staff, but my friend reckons they must only need to sell one or two handbags, etc. a day at that price to be profitable. Still, it’s all amazing to check out and be in awe! You can even place a bet though from my experience I’d advise not, and I can testify that the house does always win!

What to See in Macau in One Day? STUDIO CITY –  Brand new, as it only opened up two weeks before our  Macau Day Trip From Hong Kong !

From here, you just wandered around all the other mega-casinos, including Studio City ,  Galaxy Macau ,  Sands Cotai, and City of Dreams. They are all amazing, but Studio City here is the one to watch. When we visited had only been open for a month, so was not all 100% yet but has already become world-famous for its Batman ride and a Ferris Wheel in the shape of a figure-8 …

These non-gambling features are a result of Macau’s casino industry’s worst downturn on record as China’s slowing economy and its crackdown on corruption.

China’s President Xi Jinping in December ordered the city to diversify its economy from gambling, on which it relies for about 80 percent of revenue and the results of this should be seen more in the future – The Parisian Macao which has recently opened and many existing casinos are busy creating shows and other entertainment events…

Expect to see Macau look more like Vegas in the future – which isn’t a bad thing. While gambling can be fun, I for one, would love to see a proliferation of entertainment options when I come back in the future to draw me in few days (as Vegas does) rather than the current day trip option may take. And I would absolutely love to check out the Macau SkyWalk! 

One giant construction zone … Bigger things to come, watch this space as I’m sure there will be a new addition or two to the  What to See in Macau in One Day list very soon!

An exciting future development that would add to the appeal accessibility (user-friendliness) is the Macau light rail transit (planned to be complete in 2019).

 It will serve the Macau Peninsula, Taipa and Cotai, serving major border checkpoints such as the Border Gate, the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal , the Lotus Bridge Border and the Macau International Airport connecting major entry-exit points at the Macau Peninsula and the Taipa Island with residential and tourist areas.

Exciting times for Macau and with the growth it has had in the past and a supposed resurgence (which may or may not be occurring as we speak), you can be sure to add Macau into your future travel plans! I will be going back to explore further in the future when I get the chance!

Hometime – I was exhausted from our Macau day trip from Hong Kong and slept the whole way back. I barely made it onto the boat as was not functional at all by the time I got back to Hong Kong… But well worth it!

A fantastic day trip with history, food, vice, and modern extravagance. I can highly recommend anyone to check Macau out —  though maybe just look a going on a quieter day!

Macao Government Tourism Office partners with Cotai Water Jet to launch the special offer of free ferry from Hong Kong to Macao for international visitors* who arrive in Hong Kong.  The free offer of one-way ferry tickets to Macao is available from February 1 until July 31, 2024, to encourage international visitors in Hong Kong to extend their trip to Macao. With their valid travel documents along with boarding passes, electronic tickets or transportation receipts which indicate their arrival to Hong Kong within seven (7) days before their intended trip to Macao, international visitors can book ferry tickets for free. *The offer is not available for those from mainland China, Hong Kong or Taiwan.

Guide to Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal

Establishing itself as the World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, Macau is a destination that you cannot miss anymore. This glittering city lying on the southern coast of China may be small in size but packs in a lot of culture, experiences, and excitement.

Flying to Macau from nearby regions is easy. However, the Macau International Airport’s capacity is limited and your best bet is to fly into Hong Kong and then take a ferry to Macau. It’s a simple process and this article will be your guide to navigating the Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal (not to be confused with Taipa Ferry Terminal).

One of two terminals in Macau, this ferry terminal also serves as a heliport where visitors can opt for air travel or board the fleet of TurboJET ships. Helicopter services are available from Hong Kong and Shenzhen to Macau if you prefer a quicker route. Sea routes approximately take 1 hour from Hong Kong and 1.2 hours from Shenzhen. For hassle-free travel, the Macau Ferry Terminal has seamless transfers from Hong Kong and Shenzhen airports with their partnered airlines thus easing immigration and custom formalities upon arrival or departure.

Once you arrive at the Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal you’ll see it has three levels.

First Floor

The Arrivals level is located at this floor. Passengers who’ve arrived in Macau will be greeted with a tourist information booth after immigration. Helpful staff are present to assist with your needs in navigating the city and provide maps for directions and flyers to keep you up-to-date with the latest happenings. There are tons of people trying to offer you hotels, sightseeing packages, etc. but please keep in mind, these are overpriced and often not necessary as Macau is an easily navigatable city.

If you wish to be connected 24/7, vending machines are available for purchasing SIM cards that provide Macau-Hong Kong unlimited data plans so you don’t need to worry about scouting for wifi in the city, although there are a lot of free wifi hotspots at popular tourist locations around the city.

Banks, ATM machines, and money exchange counters are also found on this floor. Additionally, there are local travel agencies that can help you with planning your trip by offering travel packages.

Macau has two main modes of transport: taxis and buses. Taxis are the most convenient way to get around but be aware about taxi drivers contracting fares. This is not a legal practice so be sure the driver has the meter on. If you’re on a budget, taking a bus is just as easy. There are plenty of options at the Macau Ferry Terminal bus stop to bring you to your destination. Bus stop kiosks at the terminal have information about all Macau buses and its’ routes.

Apart from buses and taxis, the best ride to get is a hotel shuttle bus lined up across the street. You can hop on a shuttle bus of your choice for free making it convenient for everybody to reach the hotel’s premises.

Second Floor

The second floor is the departure level. Travelers can purchase their tickets at the designated ticket counters depending on the class that caters to your needs. Self-service ticketing kiosks are readily available for travelers’ convenience and can be purchased with credit cards (VISA & Mastercard accepted). You can also collect pre-booked tickets (online booking and mobile app reservations can be 45 days in advance and 60 days in advance for airport routes).

The Macau Ferry Terminal also has a luggage service counter on this floor charging MOP$ 20 per piece/hour operating from 6:45am-12:00am.

Third Floor

The last floor is devoted to shopping, dining, and doubles up as a waiting area for passengers where you can enjoy free wifi service that covers most areas of the terminal. And if low on battery, there is a mobile charging station too.

Sip on some hot coffee or grab some sandwiches and fresh fruits at Palacio Lisboa. Or if you crave for a quick bite, McDonald’s will always be a safe and easy option.

If you want to begin your trip with shopping or spend on some last minute buys, New Yaohan is a mini mall offering toys, electrical and houseware appliances, gifts, and a clothing outlet.

The Macau Ferry Terminal is the ideal port to arrive in if you’re staying at the Macau side or if you’re looking to explore the older parts of the city like St. Paul Ruins or Senado Square. Meanwhile if you’re staying at the Cotai Strip, we suggest the Taipa Ferry Terminal as your arrival port which we will be talking about in another article. Whichever terminal you arrive in, Macau is an easy city to get around. Enjoy your stay and make sure it won’t be your last.

MACAU TO HONG KONG BY FERRY or BUS (via Sea Bridge)

Hong Kong is easily accessible from Macau. All it takes is a one-hour ferry ride. Hence, it is not unusual for travelers to bundle these two cities together. Some travelers fly to Macau, take a ferry to Hong Kong, and then return to their country from there. Some do it the other way around.

If you have a roundtrip ticket to Macau, you can visit Hong Kong on a day trip. Just make sure you build your itinerary well to maximize your day.

You have two options: by ferry or by shuttle bus via the newly opened Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge (HZMB).

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

Macau to Hong Kong by Shuttle Bus (Sea Bridge)

By direct bus with hotel pickup (chinalink).

Normally, you can catch a bus at the HZMB. But if you book with Klook, you can be picked up at any of the following hotels or casinos:

• Grand Lisboa Macau
• Starworld Hotel
• The Venetian Macao
• Galaxy Macao
• Sands Macao

The bus can take you directly to either Prince Edward in Mong Kok or Kowloon Elements in Tsim Sha Tsui. Note that you will also have to go through Immigration and Customs inspections.

Bus Fare: HK$ 158 to 160.

You can reserve a bus below.

By Public Bus

• Make your way to HZMB. Depends on where you’re coming from, you can take the 101X Bus, 102X Bus, or taxi to HZMB.
• Board the shuttle bus to Hong Kong (Lantau Island). MOP65 (regular times), MOP (midnight to 5:59am).
• Take the B5 bus to Sunny Bay MTR station, Fare: HK$ 5.80.
• Take the MTR to city center. If your hotel is in Central area, fare is HK$23.5. If your hotel is in Tsim Sha Tsui, fare is HK$ 16.

Note that you will also have to go through Immigration and Customs inspections.

If your hotel is in Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon) area, I recommend either the direct bus or the tried and tested ferries because the ports are much closer. Taking the public bus via sea bridge means you will be arriving in HK in Lantau Island, which is a bit detached from the rest of the city. You will have to take the another bus and MTR to reach the city center. That’s 3 transfers, which is cumbersome if you have heavy luggage.

Macau to Hong Kong by Ferry

1. choose your terminal in macau and hong kong..

There are two ferry terminals that you can use:

• Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal , located in Macau Peninsula. This is closer to the city center.
• Taipa Terminal , sometimes called Cotai Terminal, just a short walk from Macau International Airport.

These ferries sail to any of these terminals in Hong Kong. These are completely difference terminals and a bit far from each other, so make sure you book the right one.

• Hong Kong MACAU Ferry Terminal along Connaught Road Central, Sheung Wan area in Hong Kong Island.
• Hong Kong CHINA Ferry Terminal along Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon.
• Sky Pier at Hong Kong International Airport. Exclusive to tourists only.

If your hotel is in Tsim Sha Tsui, choose the one in Kowloon so you will just have to walk. If your hotel is in the Central district, board a ferry bound for Sheung Wan.

2. Purchase a Ticket.

You can buy tickets at the terminal itself. Often, the fares are very similar. If they vary, only by a little bit. Even the travel experience is pretty standard and similar. It’s just a matter of travel time.

• Macau to Hong Kong Island/Kowloon: HKD 160 to 172 (in daytime) and up to HKD 211 (at night), one-way.
• Macau to Hong Kong International Airport: HKD 270 (day time), HKD 300 (night), one way.

For tickets to Hong Kong Airport, if you want to score some discounts, you can book in advance online via Klook! For example, the regular one-way TurboJet fare is HKD 270. But with Klook, it’s only at HKD 263.

3. Board the Ferry.

The boarding process is pretty straightforward. After getting a ticket, follow the signs to the boarding area. Usually, there are staff members that can point you in the right direction.

If necessary, check in your bags. For hand-carry, only one piece per person is allowed. I remember, however, that they let me through with a small backpack and a suitcase. I asked but they said I didn’t need to check in anything. Not sure if small backpacks are counted as an item or I just got lucky.

Luggage Restrictions for Carry-On Each passenger is allowed only one carry-on (hand-carry) bag.

• Size : maximum 600mm x 200mm x 350mm
• Weight : maximum 20kg.

Luggage Restrictions for Check In Each passenger is allowed 3 pieces of luggage for check in.

• Size : maximum 76cm x 56cm x 23cm
• Weight : 40 kg

You’re gonna have to go through the Immigration counters, too. Make sure you have your passport and the details usually needed in the arrival form including the boat name and number and your address in Hong Kong. Falling in line can take some time especially at peak hours so consider that when planning your trip.

When it’s time to board, find your seat. Your ticket has an assigned seat number.

The journey usually lasts 55 minutes for Macau-Hong Kong city center.

Useful Tips

• Most seats have overhead compartments for bags and suitcases. Most, not all. I once had to hold my big bag on my lap all the way through.
• If you suffer from sea sickness, take your meds before sailing. The current can be wild at times. I have seen passengers puking their guts out on the aisle floor a couple of times. It’s messy. You don’t want to be that passenger.
• Check your seat number upon purchase. If you’re a group, even when you book the trip together, your seats may be super far from each other. This is probably a result of trying to fill the last remaining seats on the boat. I once traveled with my mom, who is an elderly, and a cousin, who was a first-time traveler. We booked together but we were assigned seats on completely separate aisles. I was so nervous that I would lose my senior mom and clueless cousin. We ended up waiting for everyone else to go disembark first before reuniting and getting out of the ferry together.

Is ferry in taipa terminal to hongkong operate 24 hours?

Hi Loid, yung experience namin, hindi naman mahigpit. Wala namang questions. Ewan ko lang ngayon. To be safe dala ka na lang ng proof of accommodation nyo sa Macau para pag nagtanong, sabihin nyo lang day tour and babalik din kayo the same day.

Dun sa 2nd question mo, what do you mean? Sakay kayo ferry sa Macau Ferry Outer Terminal tapos punta kayo HK. Whether sa HK Island (Sheung Wan) or Kowloon, may malapit namang MRT Station doon (may kaunting lakad though).

Hi sa HK Disneyland Hotel kami naka checkin kong papunta kaming macau ano pong mas malapit sakyan ferry or bus papuntang macau?

Since may Sky Pier sa airport, halos pareho lang sya if you’re taking the MTR. Bababa ka rin sa Sunny Bay Station. Ang difference lang, if punta ka Sky Pier, magtransfer ka to another train. If yung bridge naman, transfer ka to bus.

Note however na limited lang ang number of sailings per day from Sky Pier. Ang pinakamaaga last time I checked ay 11am pa, so if gusto nyo mamaximize yung time, di sya ideal.

Hi im planning a RT trip Manila-Macau but will make it 5 days so I can visit HK for 3/5 days. If I enter Macao then go straight to HK then babalik again Macau for my return flight to Manila, will there be an issue sa immigration?

Hi Boy Pancit, usually, there should be no issue. I have done that before, going to HK immediately after landing in Macau. I had no problem.

Just make sure you have all your hotel bookings and return flight ticket, just in case they ask.

Hello po. We booked tickets from cebu to macau and v.v., pero we’re planning to stay sana sa hongkong since cheaper daw hotels doon. Would that be ok po ba? wala po ba magiging problema? Then we will be arriving in macau late evening na po, would you suggest to go directly to hongkong? or stay muna sa macau till it’s morning?

Hi Kristine, based on experience, okay lang po yun. Nagawa na namin na entry ay Macau tapos diretso kami HK after landing. Late evening din ung arrival ng flight namin.

Wala naman po. Pwede magkaiba ang entry and exit point. Just make sure meron ka lang ticket pabalik ng Pinas and hotel reservation.

Hi, Macau po Entry namin 11:30PM arrival and plan is day tour sa Macau then HK na. So hindi na po kami check in ng hotel sa macau since ilang oras lang naman po kami doon. Here’s my questions & hoping to hear from you soon.

Macau is an awesome one day trip from Hong Kong that’s only a 55 minute boat ride away.  It’s a completely different vibe from the big city of Hong Kong.  Think of Macau as Asia’s version of Vegas but with old town Portuguese flare mixed around it.

If you’re like most travellers, you’re going to be based in Hong Kong but want the chance to explore Macau (also referred to as Macao) so I’ve put together the perfect one day Macau itinerary.

• A little bit about Macau

Macau is one of the two Special Administrative Regions of China and is bordered on the province of Guangdong.  There’s nothing that connects Hong Kong to Macau so a ferry is necessary although all that will change when they complete the bridge that will link the two cities.

What makes Macau unique is that it was former Portuguese colony and administered by Portugal from the mid-16th century until late 1999, similar to how Hong Kong was administered by the United Kingdom.

However what once was a sleepy colonial city has now ballooned to become Asia’s gambling capital.  The one thing that stuck out from my visit was just how many casinos there were.  Huge themed casinos dominate the skyline now with each newer one outdoing the previous new kid on the block.

If you’re in Hong Kong for more than 3 days, you probably have time to do a trip to Macau to mix it up so to speak.

For us, we never had a fixed date we wanted to do Macau.  At one point we had also considered doing 2 days there but after talking to many locals the feedback we repeatedly got was that it wasn’t worth it.  After the Maldives portion of the trip, Hong Kong’s weather was also extremely erratic with rain so we just played it by ear.

There was one day that finally looked good for us so we decided the night before to make the trip to Macau.  So that’s really the extent of the planning we did.  You can certainly book ferry tickets online but honestly you’re better off to show up at the purchase the TurboJet tickets right at the terminal because of how complicated it is to do it online.  There are departures every 15 minutes so you really have nothing to worry about.  Ticket prices start at HKD$171.

The way I broke the trip down was by the various areas of Macau.  With a full day or less than 24 hours in Macau, this itinerary makes a lot of sense for most travellers and I’d recommend you following a similar route to what we did:

• Start off in Taipa and do the cultural sights first.  It’s a lovely little area full of Portuguese architecture, shops and food stalls.  I personally loved this area of Macau the most.  This area is also great to grab lunch.
• Once you’er done here, cab over to Coloane which honestly doesn’t have too much but the big highlight is Lord Stow’s if you like Portuguese Egg Tarts.  Even if you don’t like or know about them, it’s worth a try.  There’s the small Chapel of St. Francis and the food vendors in front you can check out.
• Hac Sa Beach is a short little detour after Coloane although to be honest the beach isn’t particularly nice.  The food stalls don’t look that appetizing either and if it wasn’t for Fernando’s which Chantelle’s aunt and uncle recommended, I’d say this area is skippable.
• Now it’s finally time to head into the big city so start at the Ruins of St. Paul and snake your way down the shopping streets.  Have dinner in this area.
• The night is young right?   Casinos always come alive at night so it makes sense to slot this at the very end.  Pick one or two you want to check out.  The unfortunate thing is that they’re quite spaced out especially between the older ones on the Macau peninsula and the new mega ones out in Taipa.

With 24 hours in Macau, here’s an exact breakdown of the itinerary that I recommend that you follow.  It gets you a chance to explore the entire city and the best that it has to offer.  If you’re looking for a way to have a copy you can download, just make sure you subscribe to grab the full trip plan right below this table.

With only realistically 12 hours to work with, things were of course tight and I definitely had to make a few calls to cut out some non essentials.  And then there was all the food we wanted to try.  Even with all the snacking we did, we still missed quite a few places!

• Macau Tower – Great panoramic views of the city.  They have a skywalk and bungee jumping from up there if you dare!
• Cheoc Van Beach – Another beach we could’ve checked out but there simply wasn’t enough time to go.  I doubt we would’ve been impressed
• The old casinos like Hotel Lisboa and Sand s – One of the challenges with Macau’s casinos is that they are not easily walkable from each other.  As a result, it becomes really hard to hotel hop like you would in Vegas.  It would’ve been neat to check out some of the older casinos but in the end we figured that they’d be about the same
• House of Dancing Water at the City of Dreams casino – If you’re into Cirque du Soleil type shows like in Vegas, this one’s for you.  We would’ve loved to have done it but we didn’t have time and also didn’t prebook.  Prices start at 600HKD

If you’re looking for more of a guided experience or looking to get your hands dirty with some activities in Macau, here’s what I recommend that you check out!

• New bridge crossing – The Hong Kong – Zhuhai –  Macau Bridge (HZMB) opened October 23, 2018 which opens up a whole new way to get to Macau from Hong Kong.  Learn about the two different methods to get to Macau that involve shuttle busses.  The price of this starts at HKD$65 which means it’s cheaper than taking the ferry.
• Ferry tickets hacks – This isn’t really advertised but you should know that you have to pick your ferry ticket times beforehand.  This may seem limiting but what most people don’t know is that you can always take an earlier ferry from the time you booked but you can’t take a later ferry.  What that means in terms of strategy is to book a late ferry coming home (i.e. midnight) so if you want to head back to Hong Kong early, you can have the flexibility to do so.  Or if you end up raking it in at the casino and want to stay later, you can do that as well.
• Passports – You’re technically leaving the country when you head to Macau so make sure you have your passport.  You will be going through passport control when you arrive in Macau and when you go back to Hong Kong.  If you’re unsure, read the full entry requirements for Macau .
• Private drivers? – You’ll be hounded by taxi drivers and tour guides when you get out into the main foyer of the Macau ferry terminal.  Ignore them.  It’s a lot easier and cheaper to run your own program and catch a few cabs you’ll need to get around.
• Casino shuttles – If you want to save a bit of taxi money, why not take one of the several free shuttles to casinos.  We saved money at the start by going to one of the closer casinos to Taipa and then cabbed from there
• Currency – Macau (MOP) has its own currency but Hong Kong Dollars (HKD) is accepted everywhere.  Just note that some places will give you MOP change.  If that’s the case, you can sometimes request to get HKD back instead.  If they can’t/won’t, just spend the MOP during the day
• Koi Kei – What’s up with this place?  These guys have a stranglehold so large on Macau that even Starbucks would be impressed.  So they sell cookies and Macanese snacks that are great for souvenirs if you find anything you like.  It seems crazy how many stores they have but they’ve blanketed the city so well that everyone pretty much buys goods from them if you visit Macau.  They destroy the competition because they freely hand out or have self-serve boxes of samples so feel free to go nuts.  By far the most popular snack to have in Macau is their dried beef slices.  They’re quite delicious but the problem was that I knew I couldn’t bring these back to Canada since they are considered as meat products.
• Casa de Pasto Seng Cheong  (28-30 Rua do Cunha, Vila de Taipa) – Crab congee/porridge
• 新好利美食餅店 (13-14 R. do Regedor, Vila de Taipa) – Fresh milk tarts
• 大利來 Cafe Tai Lei Loi Kei (moved from the original at No.18, Largo Gov. Tamagnini Barbosa to south of the intersection of Rua do Regedor and Rua do Desporto, on the street that Rua do Desporto turns into) – Pork chop buns
• Lord Stow’s (1 Rua do Tassara, Coloane) – Original Portuguese egg tarts.  There’s also a store now at the Venetian if you don’t want to venture out to Coloane
• Fernando’s (9 Praia de Hac Sa, Hac Sa Beach) – Portuguese restaurant, also known for their pork chop buns

Thinking about staying overnight?

Macau is easy to do in a day but if you feel like you need an extra day to explore, there’s nothing wrong with that.  Alternatively, it’s totally plausible that you gambled the night away but I wouldn’t judge ;).  There are lots of great places to stay in Macau but here are two of my top picks.

THE VENETIAN MACAO RESORT HOTEL

One of the premiere properties in Macau in a cluster of hotels meant to recreate the Las Vegas vibe.  Out of all the ones we visited, this was the most impressive and almost an exact replica of the one in Vegas.

Here’s a look into what we saw in one jam-packed day itinerary in Macau.

Macau is well worth a day trip from Hong Kong and I feel that a full day is sufficient enough to see almost everything you’d want to see.  2 days is a bit top much considering there are probably other things you probably want to do ( and eat ) in HK and nearby islands.

It was a fantastic day of food, Portuguese influenced culture and a little bit of gambling.

I was pretty happy with the Macau in a single day itinerary I put together.  If there was anything I’d change, I’d probably leave out Hac Sa Beach and instead spend a bit more time in the casinos which ended up being a bit too short.

Ceremonial football for 2025 NFL Draft begins Wisconsin journey

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WBAY) - It’s an important, ceremonial day for Green Bay and the 2025 NFL Draft.

The ceremonial handoff football is beginning its journey in Wisconsin, leading to the 2025 NFL Draft countdown at Lambeau Field.

The handoff is like the passing of the torch, if you will, from Detroit to Green Bay. Detroit had an incredible turnout for this year’s draft with over 700,000 attendees. Green Bay is expecting 250,000 for draft events that will be more centrally located around the Titletown district

The Lake Express Ferry left Milwaukee Tuesday morning on a mission across Lake Michigan to pick up the special delivery in Muskegon, Mich. and returned shortly before noon. Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers walked off the ferry carrying the football one-handed, gleefully showing it to the small crowd that was waiting.

The football begins its Wisconsin journey in a part of the state that has a lot of pro football history. Early NFL teams were located in Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha, and in 1939 Milwaukee hosted the NFL Draft. The Packers even played a portion of their schedule in Milwaukee from 1933 to 1994.

That football needs to make its way to Lambeau Field and Titletown for another ceremony -- the unveiling of the NFL Draft countdown clock.

It’ll make its way north from Milwaukee not by car but by bike. The group carrying the football includes riders from the Green Bay Packers, Travel Wisconsin, Wisconsin Bike Fed, and Green Bay-area bicycle shops and cycling advocates. The Packers say the cyclists will pedal past a few landmarks along the way to highlight tourism and the state’s stunning trails and outdoor activities.

Packers Director of Public Affairs Ryan Popkey joked, “Remember this is a no-drop ride,” saying he didn’t want to get left behind.

Getting the football to Lambeau Field is taking most of the day. It’s expected to reach Titletown around 6:30 p.m.

As the football is carried on the final leg from the Ray Nitschke practice field to Lambeau Field, kids are invited to carry on a Packers tradition. Kids will bikes should be in place for the ride on Armed Forces Drive by 6 p.m.

The 2025 NFL Draft starts Thursday, April 24, in less than 345 days.

I took a $30 ferry ride to Shell Island, an unspoiled 7-mile beach in Florida. It was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.

• Shell Island was one of the most beautiful places I've seen in Florida, and I'd ferry there again.

Sometimes, there's nothing better than being a tourist for the day in your own state. As a Florida resident, I'm always looking for new places to visit without traveling far from home.

On a recent trip to Panama City Beach (PCB), Florida, I decided to visit Shell Island — known for its pristine beaches without souvenir shops, hotels, or restaurants — for the first time.

Like the millions of people who visit Florida for its beaches, I was excited to admire the water and enjoy the area's natural beauty.

To get there, I took the Shell Island Ferry, which shuttles visitors from St. Andrews State Park to the seven-mile-long island. The 15-minute ferry ride, which cost just under $30, transported me to a world completely different from PCB's typical tourism scene.

Here's what the ferry ride was like and why I can't wait to visit Shell Island's scenic beaches again.

A ride on the Shell Island Ferry cost me less than $30.

The ticket to ride the Shell Island Ferry cost me about $28 after taxes and fees. When buying my ticket online, I was prompted to choose an hourly departure time between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

To board the ferry, I entered St. Andrews State Park and paid a $4 admission fee as a solo driver.

I took a tram from the park to the dock, where the ferry was waiting.

Upon entering the park, a staff member instructed me to check in at the park's Pier Store. I waited there until a tram arrived to take passengers to the St. Andrews State Park marina, where the ferry would depart.

After a bumpy, 10-minute tram ride, we arrived at the docks and followed signs to board our boat .

We boarded the ferry and prepared for the short ride to Shell Island.

A few crew members, including a boat captain, greeted us as we boarded the ferry for the 15-minute ride to Shell Island.

Before taking off, staff members reminded us of the ferry's operating hours. We were told that ferries back to the state park would leave Shell Island at the bottom of the hour throughout the day.

I chose a seat on the ferry's top deck.

The ferry's lower tier had plenty of shade, but I rode on the top deck to enjoy the views. Though it wasn't very crowded when I went, I'd estimate about 50 people could ride the ferry at once.

The guides warned us that the last few daily return trips tend to fill up quickly, so we might have to wait for a ferry when it was time to head back to St. Andrews State Park.

The ferry ride was peaceful, and the views were beautiful.

During the peaceful 15-minute ferry ride, I took in all the sights, from offshore fishermen on the beaches to high-rise hotels along the PCB shoreline.

As a frequent traveler, I always love seeing the area I'm visiting from the water, and this affordable ferry ride was a great way to do so.

Shell Island was so beautiful that I felt like I was in another world.

After the ferry dropped us off at a jetty on one side of the island, it took about three minutes to walk along the wooden, boardwalk-style path to the beach.

I was amazed at Shell Island's pristine and untouched beauty, with white-sand beaches and coastal scrubland. There are no restrooms, stores, or shaded areas on the island, but after spending a few days in the thriving tourist town of PCB, it was nice to walk on quiet beaches where no hotels lined the shores.

In addition to strolling along the beach, guests can explore the walking trails or go snorkeling with their own equipment. Gear is also available to rent at the Pier Store.

It was easy to see how Shell Island got its name.

I've lived in Florida for almost eight years, and Shell Island's beach was one of the prettiest spots I've seen in the state.

I spent most of my time enjoying the beautiful beaches, where the number of seashells blew me away. I also noticed sand dollars and washed-up driftwood along the shoreline.

This area was truly a beachcomber's paradise, with lots to explore and find.

I spent the afternoon walking the beach and reading on a blanket.

I spent about two hours walking the beach and taking photos of the beautiful views.

Then, I sat on a blanket, quietly reading and soaking up the sun. There weren't many other people around, so it felt like an afternoon of true solitude.

Catching a ferry back to St. Andrews State Park was easy.

It was incredibly easy to get back to the ferry when I was ready to leave, which I appreciated since I was traveling alone.

When we first arrived at Shell Island, our captain gave us thorough instructions on how to return to the boat. There were also clear pathways between the dock and the beach.

I'd definitely take the Shell Island Ferry again.

Taking the Shell Island Ferry allowed me to see the island and most of the PCB area by boat. In addition to stunning views along St. Andrews Bay, I admired the island's beauty as I collected shells and took a few much-needed deep breaths in a pristine setting.

Shell Island was a beautiful spot I'd visit again, and the $30 ferry ticket felt like a worthwhile expense to see a unique part of the area.

Should I be looking to book now or should I look to book nearer the date? Also I note some hotel packages only run until the end of June which is also why I am wondering whether to wait?

It is hard to answer or comment on your question which is a bit too general.

"Unavailable" doesn't necessarily mean "fully booked". Just unavailable. You didn't saw what method you used in trying to book. Book with the hotel directly on their official site? Or through some third-party sites such as hotels.com, booking, expedia, trip.com (there are a doze of them). Each of these sites may have contract issues with the hotel(s) in question.

You want to have a look at the bigger picture. e.g. Try different hotel booking site to book the same hotel for the same date range. Does it show up as available. And the best is to book directly from that hotel, if they offer it. Get in from the source. But even getting it from the hotel itself may not necessarily mean they are full booked either (can be that they sold out all the blocks to other third-parties and their own direct-sale pool of rooms are sold out).

Steamship Authority worried staffing shortage could impact summer ferry service

On another picture perfect day on Cape Cod, a Steamship Authority ferry bound for Martha's vineyard from Woods Hole left right on time. But as the always-busy summer season picks up, there is worry about staffing shortages.

The organization says it has just enough staff to operate all its ferries, which travel to the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, with limited margin for error.

"Time is definitely money," Uber driver Francesco Vasaile said.

Vasaile banks on the ferry being right on time, and any delays will cost him.

"I specifically come down here from Weymouth every spring and summer just to do these trips," Vasaile said.

For those who live on Martha's Vineyard, the ferries that connect the island with Woods Hole are an important lifeline.

Andy Palmer, who lives on the island, has several important ferry trips booked in the next month.

"One of them is fairly critical in terms of meeting an airplane at Logan [Airport], so I am a little concerned that could be an issue," he said Tuesday. "Taking my wife to a surgery on Thursday, and that is also time-sensitive."

The Steamship Authority says any sick calls or unforeseen absences could cause issues.

"It is going to be very tight this summer," Mark Higgins of the Steamship Authority said last week during a council meeting. "We are looking at people going on medical and sickness, we are going to have issues."

He attributed the hiring crunch to lack of mariners and a number of retirements.

For the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, finding a solution is top of mind.

"It is the number one priority for the chamber, certainly over the last three years, labor supply shortage on the Cape has been acute," said Chamber CEO Paul Niedzwiecki.

Niedzwiecki spent Tuesday meeting with lawmakers at the Massachusetts State House to try to find a solution to build more affordable housing.

"We are dealing, really, with a crisis situation on the labor supply side that is due to the housing market," he added.

The Steamship Authority says it is also working hard to staff up before the busy season.
