Pontiac G5 specs

Model overview.

The Pontiac G5 was a rebadged variant of the Chevrolet Cobalt.

The Pontiac Pursuit was originally launched in Canada as a sedan in 2005 and was sold from 2005 through 2006. In 2006, another variant of the car was released named the Pontiac G5 Pursuit in Canada, but it was now available as both a sedan and a coupe. This automobile was available as both a sedan and coupe also in Mexico as the Pontiac G4 from 2005 till 2006.

In the U.S., the Pontiac G5 went on sale in 2006 as a 2007 model, serving as the follower for the Pontiac Sunfire and was available only as a coupe. However, in Canada, and in Mexico, the Pontiac G5 available as both a sedan and coupe and went on sale in early 2007 as a 2007 model.

GM abandoned the Pontiac G5 in the U.S. in 2009. One year later in 2010, GM abandoned the Pontiac G5 in both Canada and Mexico. The G5 was stopped as a direct outcome of General Motors phasing out the Pontiac brand in 2010. In the U.S. and in Mexico, the Chevrolet Cruze had substituted both Chevrolet Cobalt and the Pontiac G5. In Canada, the Buick Verano had substituted the Pontiac G5.

The Pontiac G5 comes in either base or GT trim. A 2.2-liter inline four-cylinder engine powers the base G5 producing 148 horsepower and 152 pound-feet of torque. The GT highlights a more powerful 2.4-liter engine with 173 hp and 163 lb-ft of torque. The default transmission on both G5s is a five-speed manual, with a four-speed automatic transmission available as an option.
