Road to Miss Tourism World 2023 – An exclusive interview with Asmita Chakraborty, Miss Tourism India

Q. Many congratulations to you on winning the Miss Tourism India crown and getting chosen to represent India at the 2023 Miss Tourism World competition. How does it feel? Answer: The first word which comes to my mind is Gratitude for everyone who made it happen. It honestly feels like a responsibility I have been bestowed with and as much as I am excited to enjoy the process, I promise to put in my best foot forward to bring the Crown for India. I was born in the year 2000 when Indian Beauty Queens dominated all the major pageants back then. Like every young girl, I also grew up with the dream of being able to represent my country as a Beauty Queen. However only after winning the title I realised it's much more than just being beautiful. I have an immense amount of Gratitude for all the support that I have received so far and it feels surreal now that the time has finally come.

Road to Miss Tourism World 2023 – An exclusive interview with Asmita Chakraborty, Miss Tourism India

Q. Take us back to that moment when your name was announced during the national finals of Glamanand Supermodel India competition. What was your reaction to that? Answer: That is certainly one of the most memorable moments of my life. It was the year 2021 when I won the title during the Glamanand Supermodel India competition held in Gurugram. I still remember the date, it was August 21, 2021; such a scintillating evening it was. It was my first national pageant during the time when the entire world was battling a global pandemic with a silver lining of a better tomorrow. I never thought about the possibility of whether I'd emerge as one of the winners amongst such a promising batch of gorgeous ladies. But I am grateful to the national director, Nikhil Anand and the judges who saw the potential in me and I was selected as one of the winners. Every second of the coronation night is still fresh in my memory and it was the beginning of a life changing phase for me. Due to the pandemic my international pageant (Miss Tourism World) got delayed and now I am even more prepared to take on the global platform.

Road to Miss Tourism World 2023 – An exclusive interview with Asmita Chakraborty, Miss Tourism India

Q. What was the most challenging part during your journey to the crown of Miss Tourism India 2021? Answer: It was a very challenging phase for the entire world, the year 2021; it was no different for me. The year, taught all of us several valuable lessons, most importantly the value of a human life. If I talk about it from the pageant’s perspective, I had to undergo a lot of physical and mental training online for the pageant. It is not easy to work on yourself to fulfill a childhood dream when the world is literally undergoing one of the toughest phases in the history of mankind. Amidst the complete lockdown when travel wasn't permitted, we had to challenge ourselves for preparing for the national pageant and eventually I got the crown of Miss Tourism India. So, the entire phase was a big challenge in itself.

Road to Miss Tourism World 2023 – An exclusive interview with Asmita Chakraborty, Miss Tourism India

Q. How are you preparing for the international competition – Miss Tourism World 2023? Answer: I was fortunate to have gotten more time for my preparations. Apart from working on my oratory skills, ramp walk, my fitness and other activities associated with the pageant, I also got the opportunity to travel across various places and meet experts and people who broadened my views about what should be my role as Miss Tourism India. My role extends beyond the crown; it encompasses being a cultural ambassador and advocate for the nation and to inspire others to explore not just popular tourist destinations but even local areas. Mental preparation is equally important. I would also like to extend my regards to my pageant coach, Ritika Ramtri for constantly guiding me throughout the process of training.

Road to Miss Tourism World 2023 – An exclusive interview with Asmita Chakraborty, Miss Tourism India

Q. What qualities, you think, would help you move ahead in the Miss Tourism World 2023 competition? Answer: I believe every candidate representing her nation would be beautiful inside out and will be well prepared when it comes to ramp walk or communication at the world stage. But if I remain true to my purpose of representing my great nation with all my heart and be authentic, it will help me move ahead. The passion which I have for this title can only be reflected when I am being myself. I would be traveling to China with the hope that it can strengthen our bonds and foster understanding and appreciation for each other and remain authentic and enjoy the process at every step because it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Road to Miss Tourism World 2023 – An exclusive interview with Asmita Chakraborty, Miss Tourism India

Q. Being the winner of a beauty title, what is the most crucial piece of advice that you would like to share with the individuals who want to join the beauty pageant industry? Answer: I would want to tell all the aspirants that do not join pageantry to just compete for the crown but to become a better version of you. An over competitive spirit can take away what a pageant really teaches; which includes making an individual independent, to be able to form opinions, to understand the goodness in doing something for the community that creates and impact and enhancing not just external but internal beauty as well. It teaches you to handle pressure. All this learning is possible if you are being yourself and not trying to replicate someone's journey. So enter the world of pageantry with an attitude to learn and see yourself evolve is the advice I would like to give. The opportunities post that will just get aligned automatically.

Road to Miss Tourism World 2023 – An exclusive interview with Asmita Chakraborty, Miss Tourism India

Q. Lastly, any message for the readers. Answer: As I am currently focusing on my Journey to the crown of Miss Tourism World 2023 after a long wait, I'd just like to say that never stop dreaming. Embrace your dreams, for they are the blueprints of your future. Let your aspirations soar high, fueled by passion and perseverance. Every great achievement begins with a dream. It might take time to turn them into reality but things will align and fall in place eventually. And now it is my moment to live a dream and I promise to put in my best efforts at the International pageant irrespective of the results.

Uttar Pradesh has immense tourism potential, over 10 crore tourists visited Kashi in 2023: CM Yogi

L ucknow ( Uttar Pradesh ) [India], June 26 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday highlighted the state's status as the tourism heartland of the country with immense potential and said that last year, the state welcomed 48 crore tourists, nearly double its population, with most visitors drawn to spiritual tourism .

"In 2023, Kashi alone saw over 10 crore tourists. Following the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya after 500 years, tourist numbers have increased manifold, with an average of 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh tourists to Ayodhya daily," he said.

Addressing the 'Eco-Tourism Samvad' in the Mercury Hall of Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, the Chief Minister said, "UP has several sites that attract tourists like Naimisharanya near Lucknow, Chitrakoot, Shukteerth, Vindhyavasini Dham, Maa Pateshwari Dham, Maa Shakambhari Dham in Saharanpur, and Buddhist pilgrimage sites such as Kapilvastu, Sarnath, Kushinagar, Shravasti, and Sankisa. Additionally, there are numerous possibilities for spiritual tourism linked to Jain and Sufi traditions."

The most significant evidence of this is seen in the fossils park in Sonbhadra, which dates back as far as the origin of living beings, with fossils around 1.5 crore years old, Yogi pointed out. There are many such sites, natural lakes, and ponds. Uttar Pradesh boasts 15,000 square kilometres of forest area, including forests from mythological times, Yogi further asserted.

CM Yogi further added, "The forests in the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh (Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shravasti, Balrampur, Pilibhit) are well-preserved, whereas across the border in Nepal, the forests have been depleted. Efforts are underway to further develop tiger reserves in Chuka, Dudhwa, Pilibhit, as well as in Chitrakoot and Amangarh in Bijnor."

"In addition to spiritual tourism , there are also possibilities for heritage and eco- tourism . The Uttar Pradesh Eco-Tourism Development Board has been established to bring these opportunities to the attention of the country and the world, to increase public interest, provide entertainment and educational experiences, and offer opportunities to connect with the past and history. Furthermore, it aims to raise awareness about future environmental warnings," Yogi said.

The UP CM also informed that a night safari is being developed near Kukrail in Lucknow. He said, "Before that, the Kukrail River will be revived. Once a tributary of the Gomti River, originating from Pilibhit and merging with the Ganges in Varanasi, Kukrail was turned into a drain due to illegal construction. Over the past four decades, encroachments have increased so much that it has become a challenge not only for the river but also for the environment."

"We fought the battle to restore Kukrail to a river before the Supreme Court, removing more than 8,000 unauthorised encroachments. Offenders were punished, and many were rehabilitated. While rivers and water sources were drying up during the summer, new sources of water were emerging in Kukrail, he added.

The Chief Minister also emphasised the Eco-Tourism Development Board's efforts to conserve the environment, urging people to demonstrate responsible behaviour.

He said, "When tourists visit, it creates employment opportunities for many people. In the field of eco- tourism , people have started various initiatives. Tourists are visiting areas such as Sohagi Barwa, Dudhwa, Chuka, and Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. Observing nature, visitors realise that everything here is real, with nothing artificial." (ANI)

Dominant India Storm Into T20 World Cup Final With 68-Run Drubbing Of England

Leading the charge once again was their inspirational skipper rohit sharma, who laid the foundation with an aggressive 57 off 39 balls.

miss tourism india 2023

India flaunted their superabundance of talent in a display of absolute dominance to storm into the final of the T20 World Cup with a 68-run shellacking of England in their semi-final in Guyana on Thursday. Leading the charge once again was their inspirational skipper Rohit Sharma, who laid the foundation with an aggressive 57 off 39 balls, and the captain was well-supported by Suryakumar Yadav (47 off 36), as India posted 171 for seven after being asked to bat first in the rain-hit match.

In reply, England were bowled out for 103 in 16.4 overs as India set up a title clash with first-timers South Africa in Barbados on Saturday. This is India's third entry into the final of the tournament.

Hardik Pandya chipped in with a 13-ball 23, striking two sixes at a crucial juncture to prop up India.

On a slow, holding pitch with low bounce, left-arm Axar Patel (3/23) helped India tightened their grip on the match with his brilliant bowling, while his slow-bowling colleague Kuldeep Yadav (3/19) caused the damage in the middle overs.

The Indian team thus exacted revenge for the crushing 10-wicket loss it endured against the defending champions in the 2022 semifinal of the mega-event at the Adelaide Oval.

In the process, Rohit became the first Indian captain to lead the country in three ICC global finals in a space of 12 months -- 2023 World Test Championship, 2023 ODI World Cup and now the T20 World Cup.

Considering India's all-round bowling attack and nature of the surface, Rohit's men were expected to defend the total and they did that rather comfortably.

His decision to use Axar in the powerplay proved to be a masterstroke as the left-arm spinner struck twice in quick succession, from which England could not recover.

Wrist spinner Kuldeep also played his part to perfection on a pitch that suited the spinners all through the competition.

Jos Buttler (23 off 15), Harry Brook (25 off 19) and Jofra Archer (21 off 15) were the only England batters to reach double figures, summing up India's dominance in the game. Both Buttler and Brook fell while attempting the reverse sweep against Axar and Kuldeep respectively.

"We adapted to the conditions really well. It was a challenge and we adapted. We played the conditions really well," Rohit said after the match.

India, who are yet to lose a game in the tournament, will be hoping that their star batter Virat Kohli finds run in the all-important title clash. Kohli (9 off 9) perished early once again on Thursday, trying to force the pace.

The keenly awaited fixture was impacted by intermittent rain with the start of play being delayed by one hour and 15 minutes. Another long halt came when India were 65 for two in eight overs.

As many as 250 additional minutes were allotted to the game but there was no reserve day.

Soon after Kohli and Rohit came out to bat after England put the opposition in, it became clear the surface was on the slower side and low bounce made the task trickier for the batters.

While Kohli fell early, Rohit adapted to the conditions much better and decided to play the ball late and behind the stumps. One example of that was the guide over backward point off Archer in the second over when the ball went through Phil Salt's hands to reach the boundary. Setting the benchmark for other batters, Rohit then collected back-to-back fours in Topley's third over before applying pressure on England's premier spinner Adil Rashid after India reached 46 for two in the powerplay.

Rishabh Pant (4) was the second batter to be dismissed as he mistimed a flick to be caught at midwicket off Sam Curran.

Then came the engrossing match-up between Rohit and Rashid where the Indian captain employed the reverse and conventional sweep to collect two fours from the leg-spinner's opening over.

Suryakumar was batting on 13 alongside Rohit when rain returned at the Providence Stadium, forcing the game to be paused for more than an hour.

The weather played spoilsport two balls after Suryakumar got inside the line to pick Jordan over fine leg for a maximum.

England used the leg-spin of Rashid and Liam Livingstone from both ends after the forced break but they could not stifle Rohit and Suryakumar.

A full toss from Rashid was duly dispatched over short fine leg for four, the first of many boundaries that India accumulated in the middle overs.

The 13th over from Curran yielded 19 runs for India with Suryakumar smashing a couple of sixes and Rohit played a pick-up shot for a maximum that also brought up his second successive fifty.

The entertaining 73-run ended when Rohit was beaten by a googly from Rashid while attempting a slog.

Following Curran's bumper 13th over, the next fours were quiet for India before Hardik Pandya (23 off 13) hit two flat sixes on either side of the pitch to push the innings forward.

Ravindra Jadeja (17 not out off 9), sent ahead of Shivam Dube, got two crucial fours off Archer in the penultimate over while the latter's stay lasted only one ball.

Axar's six off Jordan in the final over took India past 170. The team scored 53 runs in the last five overs.

Philippines, japan foreign and defence ministers to meet july 8 in manila, south china sea: philippines seek talks but expectations for breakthrough low.

MANILA: Beauty queen-turned teacher Alexandra Mae Rosales confessed that she used to just unabashedly use products to prettify herself, with wanton disregard for sustainability.

But now she said she has become more eco-conscious.

“I was guilty before. I often used excess products. And I think you should just read how much you need.

"It’s a waste if you put too much, and it doesn’t need to be that much,” the Laguna lass told INQUIRER.net at the opening of a health and beauty care chain store in San Pedro on Friday (June 21).

Rosales shared that it is, perhaps, one of the most common practices among women and beauty queens that go against sustainability. And for her, education became the key in changing her ways.

“Sometimes, we are just not informed. That’s why it is important to inform yourself, whatever you decide on what to do,” she said.

She had done the rounds of national and international pageants, being the first Filipino woman to win in the Miss Supermodel Worldwide contest in India, and having competed in the 2021 Binibining Pilipinas pageant, and the 2024 Miss Universe Philippines pageant last month where she entered the Top 20.

And as a tourism teacher, the dusky beauty also hopes to spread awareness on eco consciousness in traveling.

“I am encouraging you all to make sustainable practices as much as you can, do your research. I know right now traveling is very much something the youth wants to do,” Rosales pleaded.

She acknowledged that it will take effort to look at the sustainable practices observed by a place one wants to visit.

But she hopes would-be travelers will also find out if there are causes that a destination is adopting, or how much it is contributing to the community.

And this is where pageantry also comes in, Rosales said. “When you say sustainability, it’s what makes our world go round.

"And up to know, the reason why we still have what we have, like the natural resources, it’s because of sustainability.

"And it’s very important that we beauty queens have a platform to be able to raise more awareness and encourage people to do the same,” she shared.

“Whenever I travel, I make sure that I pick the right tourist spots that contribute to sustainable tourism, and do not exploit animals and everything else.

"I think being able to choose the right places to go is also something that you can add to the sustainable practices,” Rosales added. - The Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
