"Tag, You're It" is about Cry Baby getting kidnapped, utilizing the children's game "tag" as a metaphor. After Cry Baby breaks up with Johnny , she is vulnerable and alone and gets kidnapped by a " wolf ".

As the song begins, it is evident that the "wolf" has been watching her for a while and sees her as the perfect victim. The "wolf" pulls up alongside Cry Baby in his car and offers her candy. The tinted windows will hide her once she's inside. Despite her refusal, he continues to pursue her and chase her through the parking lot, meaning that she's running and he's following after her. The phrase "Tag, you're it" is a metaphor for him catching her. He finally catches up to her, pushing her down to stop her from running, and covers her mouth so she cannot scream. She still screams for help, but her situation is starting to seem hopeless. She attempts to fight back by biting him, despite being incapacitated evidenced by the lyric, "Little bit of poison in me, I can taste your skin in my teeth". She is taken to his basement, where he is fascinated by the proof of her presence through something as simple as her breathing. As the last part of the chorus is sung, her tone shifts to a more bitter and angry tone, having given up hope of being rescued. The repetition of the phrase makes it seem as if it was replaying it in her head.

[Verse 1] Lookin' at me through your window Boy, you had your eye out for a little "I'll cut you up and make you dinner You've reached the end, you are the winner" Rollin' down your tinted window Drivin' next to me real slow, he said "Let me take you for a joyride I've got some candy for you inside" [Chorus] Running through the parking lot He chased me and he wouldn't stop Tag, you're it, tag, tag, you're it Grabbed my hand Pushed me down Took the words right out my mouth Tag, you're it, tag, tag, you're it Can anybody hear me? When I'm hidden underground Can anybody hear me? Am I talking to myself? Saying, "Tag, you're it, tag, tag, you're it" He's saying, "Tag, you're it, tag, tag, you're it" [Verse 2] Little bit of poison in me I can taste your skin in my teeth "I love it when I hear you breathin' I hope to God you're never leavin'" [Chorus] Running through the parking lot He chased me and he wouldn't stop Tag, you're it, tag, tag, you're it Grabbed my hand Pushed me down Took the words right out my mouth Tag, you're it, tag, tag, you're it Can anybody hear me? When I'm hidden underground Can anybody hear me? Am I talking to myself? Saying, "Tag, you're it, tag, tag, you're it" He's saying, "Tag, you're it, tag, tag, you're it" [Bridge] Eenie meenie miny mo Catch your lady by her toes If she screams don't let her go Eenie meenie miny mo Your mother said to pick the very best girl And I am [Chorus] Running through the parking lot He chased me and he wouldn't stop Tag, you're it, tag, tag, you're it Grabbed my hand Pushed me down Took the words right out my mouth Tag, you're it, tag, tag, you're it Running through the parking lot He chased me and he wouldn't stop Tag, you're it, tag, you're it Grabbed my hand Pushed me down Took the words right out my mouth Tag, you're it, tag, tag, you're it

Music video [ ]

The music video begins immediately after the events of " Pity Party ", with shots of the exterior of Cry Baby's house being shown. Cry Baby is shown angrily throwing away the streamers from her party. The Big Bad Wolf is then introduced driving an ice cream truck and he has a knife with him. Cry Baby is then shown in the grocery store buying food. Meanwhile, the Big Bad Wolf is driving in his ice cream truck, following Cry Baby. On his way there, he waves to a bus full of kids. When Cry Baby checks out, the cashier hands her a bottle of poison. When Cry Baby walks out of the grocery store, the Big Bad Wolf is waiting for her in his ice cream truck. Cry Baby asks for strawberry ice cream, but he instead gives her an ice cream cone with vanilla ice cream. She tries to hand him money, but he shakes his head. When she eats the ice cream, she begins to become drowsy, and shots from the video and the " Milk and Cookies " portion of the double feature are shown, and she then falls to the ground. The Big Bad Wolf then lifts Cry Baby into his ice cream truck. As it begins to fade to black, music is heard from the ice cream truck.

  • Cry Baby : Melanie Martinez
  • Big Bad Wolf : Cottontail
  • Cashier : Emma Harvey
  • Cry Baby agrees to take the Big Bad Wolf's ice cream twice, from two different camera angles.
  • The wolf is disguised as an ice cream man.
  • The wolf has the same knife that Cry Baby had in the " Alphabet Boy " music video.
  • The wig Melanie wore in the music video is similar in color to the silver and black wig that she wore in the " Cry Baby " music video.
  • Melanie also rented the same house she shot the "Pity Party" music video in.
  • On the deluxe version, "Tag, You're It" is the second shortest song; it is only a few seconds longer than " Play Date ".
  • Melanie has explained that from Cry Baby , this song, "Milk and Cookies", " Dollhouse " and " Sippy Cup " weren't inspired by her own life. [2]
  • The double feature took 4 days to edit.
  • The Big Bad Wolf in the music video was played by Melanie's friend Cottontail .
  • "Tag, You're It" was certified gold by the RIAA on January 10, 2019.
  • Sugar Crisp cereal boxes also appear which was a popular cereal brand by Post Cereals.
  • The song that may have been flashing back to this song could be " Erase Her ".
  • In the music video for " The Principal ", towards the end of the video, the principal drinks a blue liquid and then immediately passes out after drinking it. This could be the same "poison" that Cry Baby was given and used in the music videos for "Tag, You're It" and "Milk and Cookies".
  • Melanie stated that this song was originally about an abusive relationship and that "Milk and Cookies" was her poisoning her abusive boyfriend with milk and cookies. However, both songs were changed to fit the theme of Cry Baby .
  • The bridge references the children's counting rhyme " Eenie Meenie Miney Mo ."
  • On September 10, 2014, SmarterChild posted a photo on Instagram in the studio likely recording this song.
  • In the physical storybook edition of Cry Baby , "vulnerable" was misspelled as "vunerable." This mistake was later fixed in newer releases of the album.
  • " Teacher's Pet " is the taboo song on K-12 and " MOON CYCLE " is the taboo song on PORTALS .

Chicago Swifties join the international tour craze, flying to Europe to see Taylor Swift for less money

C ourtney Goodman admits she only became a Taylor Swift fan — or “Swiftie” — last summer when her 10-year-old daughter, Amelia, would sing along to the record-breaking singer-songwriter’s music every chance she could.

On Mother’s Day weekend, the 44-year-old from Roscoe Village jetted off with Amelia for a jam-packed 48 hours in Paris, culminating in the duo seeing Swift in concert for the first time.

The price tag: a total of $5,000, including the flights, hotel and concert tickets.

When she bought the tickets, her family said, “This is pretty crazy, Courtney,” she said.

“I said, ‘Yeah, it’s crazy, but why not?’ Let’s just do it.”

Perhaps even crazier, Goodman and Amelia are not alone.

As Swift kicked off the 51-night European leg of her international stadium tour in May, fans in the United States are living a Swiftie’s dream, flying halfway across the world for cheaper tickets to see the pop star.

Partly due to stricter rules on reselling and limits for markups above face value, tickets in Europe tend to be thousands of dollars cheaper than her sold-out North American shows. That means the total cost of flights, hotels and food, a trip to Europe could cost less than one ticket to a Swift concert in the United States.

Take a trip to an Amsterdam concert, for example.

According to Expedia, a ticket to one of Swift’s three shows in July costs as low as $500, and a two-night air and hotel package in the city runs around $1,000.

In comparison, as of Friday, the cheapest nosebleed seats to one of Swift’s concerts in Indianapolis this November are going for more than $2,000 on resale sites.

Goodman’s Paris concert tickets were $1,000 each, half the going rate for tickets to remaining U.S. shows, which resume in October.

The average ticket price for one of Swift’s U.S. shows last year was $1,088, coming in second only to Adele, who had an average ticket price of $1,243, according to CNBC.

However, there could be more pressure on the upcoming U.S. dates since last week, when Swift announced “The Eras Tour” would officially end in December. There are only 15 remaining shows in North America, six in the United States and nine in Canada.

In the U.S., Ticketmaster is under increased scrutiny over its handling of ticket distribution and clashes with artists and fans.

Most recently, the Justice Department sued the company and its owner, Live Nation, accusing them of holding an illegal monopoly over live events and unfairly pricing out fans.

But in many European countries, fans have benefited from tighter restrictions on scalpers and lower ticket demand, justifying fans such as Courtney and Amelia flying across the pond to see Swift perform.

Last year, Swift graced Chicago with three nights at Soldier Field , drawing thousands of Swifties to the Windy City. Months prior to the shows, fans spent hours affixed to their laptops to buy tickets in the stadium; some said they waited as long as eight hours as ticket sites crashed due to high demand.

A surge in visitors — and with it, economic revenue — followed Swift to Chicago, generating a record weekend for the city’s hotels. As many as 60,000 Swifties in town per night helped the city reach its hotel occupancy record, with nearly 97% of rooms occupied, according to data released last year by Choose Chicago, the city’s tourism organization.

Last summer, Melissa Sanchez, a legal assistant from Cicero, splurged on Eras tour tickets in Chicago, paying $5,500 for a seat in the sixth row alongside her cousin.

“We wanted to go, and we didn’t know if she was going to have more dates,” said Sanchez, 47.

When Swift’s European concert dates went on sale, Sanchez bought tickets for three shows: Stockholm, London and Dublin. All three of her European tickets combined cost less than her $5,500 ticket in Chicago, she said.

Three times as many Americans are traveling internationally for live concerts this summer compared to last year, according to a summer tour report by international online ticket marketplace StubHub.

Swift appears to be fueling the trend, with Stubhub calling Swift the most in-demand artist for the summer after coming off a record year as their highest-searched artist in 2023.

During her three-hour shows, Swift plays songs from all but one of her 11 studio albums, each divided into its own act — or “era” — complete with outfit changes and complex stage visuals.

The singer also chooses surprise songs at each show from her nearly two-decade career, with fans on social media guessing which ones she’ll play and creating online games to track almost every element of the show.

The slight variety in shows means hard-core fans try to go to multiple shows. Once Sanchez was in Stockholm for the three-night leg in May, she secured a last-minute ticket for a second night for only around $450.

Prescilla Malayter, 40, could not buy tickets for the Chicago concerts last year and the upcoming Indianapolis shows after she didn’t get a presale code, which gives fans first access to face-value tickets and VIP packages. Initially, her travel budget allowed for to attend a show in Canada, but after comparing high Canadian prices to cheaper ones in Europe, she set her sights on Stockholm.

Malayter, who lives in Munster, Indiana, had accumulated enough flight credit to cover the airfare for the trip. Sweden seemed to be the perfect destination to meet her two high school friends, who live in the Philippines and, like her, are huge Swifties.

Malayter spent $350 on her concert ticket and to her surprise, had a hard time selling an extra ticket after someone backed out of the trip, which, in her view demonstrated the dramatic difference in ticket demand, she said.

Even with the loss on the extra ticket, she said she spent hundreds of dollars less than if she’d waited for the Indianapolis show, a three-hour drive from her house.

“We Americans have such a warped sense of what’s affordable and anything under $1,000 can be justified” for a ticket in the United States, Malayter said.

With her trip costing a little over $1,000 total, not only did she save a lot of money, but Malayter said the cheaper tickets to the concert justified traveling to Europe for three days to see her friends, she said.

A new album released earlier this year also further ignited U.S.-based fans’ excitement for this summer’s international shows.

In April, hundreds flocked to downtown Chicago to scan a QR code mural plastered on a wall in River North that gave clues about Swift’s 11th studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” which was released later that month. In Paris, Goodman said she and her daughter were among the first audiences to hear several of Swift’s new songs live.

Swifties have also found a surprising community with other U.S. fans traveling to European shows.

Sanchez, who became a Swiftie in 2012 after the release of “Red” is part of a Facebook group that swapped tips and tickets as they planned to travel to Swift’s shows in Sweden. Her flight home to Chicago included almost 50 people who had traveled to “The Eras Tour,” she said.

After returning from the show in Paris, Courtney Goodman said she told her family about her “epic” experience at the concert. Now, everyone wants in.

“We’re going to try,” she said of attending another show in one of two cities in Germany later this summer. “I don’t know if it’s going to happen, but we’re going to try.”

The best luggage tags of 2024, according to experts

Luggage tags can help you (and airlines) find your bag in a sea of others.

After a long travel day, baggage claim is the last place anyone wants to be. While you can’t control how quickly your bag comes out or whether it arrives on the carousel, you can help yourself find it more easily (or get it back if it’s missing) with a luggage tag. While these small accouterments are usually sold with your suitcase or scribbled in a frenzy on a paper airline option, a quality luggage tag can help protect your belongings and privacy.

To help you find the right tag for your suitcase, we consulted travel experts and NBC Select staff on their favorites.

NBC Select editor Lindsay Schneider bought a water-resistant version of this luggage tag ten years ago and still swears by it. “I like the vibrant patterns because I am never mistaking my bag for someone else's, it is easy to spot from far away,” she says.

While McAlpin cautioned against using a tag that shows all your information, we think this cotton option is a stylish addition to pair with your Vera Bradley bag or any other colorful luggage .

Similar in style to Ovener luggage tags, this set is made of durable silicone in multiple colors that’s strong enough to survive airline baggage tossers, according to the brand. Each tag has a stainless steel loop with a screw on collar that keeps your tag attached to your luggage. The privacy window, a feature McAlpin recommends looking out for, displays just the traveler’s name while keeping other information hidden.

How we picked the best luggage tags.

Luggage tags shouldn’t break or show too much of your personal information, according to Anne McAlpin , a travel expert and author of “ Pack It Up: The Essential Guide To Smart Travel .” With that in mind, we sought out options that met the following criteria:

  • Material: We looked for tags made of a flexible, but durable material (like silicone) and avoided hard plastic. “Hard plastic tends to break when you check it,” says McAlpin.
  • Adequate coverage: Your personal information shouldn’t be visible for anyone to see while standing in line, says McAlpin, who likes luggage tags that cover your personal information. For more details on what to write (and not write) on your luggage tag, see below .
  • Sets, or multiple tags: The experts we spoke to recommend using multiple tags on each bag, should one fall off in transit. We looked at options that are sold as a set, or under $15 if sold individually.

What to write on your luggage tag

Whatever you do, don’t put your address on your luggage tag, says McAlpin. “You don't want to advertise that you're not at home, especially with all the fraud these days,” she says. And don’t put your home phone number either so they don’t call your house before robbing it, says McAlpin.

McAlpin recommends putting your first initial and last name and your cell phone number, so that whoever finds your baggage can call you. If you have access to email while traveling, it’s worth writing your email address too. Most importantly, travelers should ask a friend or family member at home to be their spot person if they’re unreachable. “Add the cellphone number and email address of your back home person who has a copy of your itinerary,” she says. “So if you're on your way to Europe and your bag is stuck in Chicago, they can be calling your back home family member and they'll say ‘oh yeah, they're headed to Paris and they're headed to this hotel.”

If you’re headed to the airport and don’t have time to order a luggage tag, a piece of string works too. “Tie ribbon around your luggage,” says McAlpin. “Tie red ribbon, Christmas ribbon, something different and do it on each handle so that everyone can see it coming and going.”

Ludvig Aberg leads after two rounds of the US Open; Tiger Woods misses cut

Sweden’s Ludvig Åberg is alone atop the leaderboard in his U.S. Open debut after shooting 1-under in the second round Friday at Pinehurst, to bring him to 5-under for the tournament.

Americans Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Cantlay and Belgian golfer Thomas Detry are each one stroke off the lead at 4-under.

Tiger Woods, on the other hand, didn’t make his 18th career U.S. Open cut. Woods, a three-time champion at the U.S. Open, finished 7-over on the tournament after shooting four bogeys on Friday.

He’s not the only big name to miss the cut, projected at 5-over for the tournament. Viktor Hovland (+6), Max Homa (+6), Rickie Fowler (+8), Dustin Johnson (+9) and Phil Mickelson (+15) will not see the weekend.

How Day 2 went:

2024 US Open leaderboard

Ludvig Åberg co-leader in first U.S. Open

Ludvig Åberg’s first U.S. Open is off to an amazing start. The Swedish golfer ended the second round atop the leaderboard, tied with Matthieu Pavon for first place. Åberg shot 1-under for the day, hitting two birdies and two bogeys on Friday, to bring him to 5-under for the tournament. Åberg made his major championship debut earlier this year at the 2024 Masters and finished second to Scottie Scheffler. Now, Åberg is in prime position to win his first major tournament.

Aced it! Francesco Molinari hits Hail Mary to possibly make cut

Italian Francesco Molinari has a chance to make the cut at the 2024 U.S. Open following a hole-in-one on No. 9 (194 yards, par-3). Molinari was three strokes over the projected cutline heading into the 9th hole, his last of the day. That’s when he aced it and the eagle moved him to 5-over on the tournament to possibly make it into the weekend. The projected cutline has fluctuated between 4-over and 5-over.

It marked the second hole-in-one on hole No. 9 on Friday. Sepp Straka aced the same hole earlier in the day.

Who will miss the cut?

The cut line at the 2024 U.S. Open is projected at 4-over. Tiger Woods is in danger of missing the weekend, sitting at 7-over on the tournament with only one more hole left in the second round on Friday. The cut line may drop to 5-over, giving world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (5-over) a chance to sneak through.

Big names, including Viktor Hovland (6-over), Mox Homa (6-over), Sungjae Im (7-over) and Phil Mickelson (13-over), are expected to miss the cut.

Leader Ludvig Aberg opens two-stroke lead

Ludvig Aberg is extending his lead. He shot a birdie on No. 12 (475 yards, par 4) to go to 2-under for the day and 6-under for the tournament. It marked his third birdie of the day. He has opened up a two-stroke lead.

Tony Finau tied for second after birdie

Tony Finau is moving up the leaderboard. He joined Bryson DeChambeau in second place at 4-under for the tournament following a birdie on hole No. 12 (475 yards, par 4). Finau converted a long putt up a slope for his second birdie in three previous holes. He has shot three birdies and one bogey on Friday so far. Finau is vying for his first major title. His best finish at the U.S. Open was fifth place in 2018.

Tiger Woods picks up another bogey

Tiger Woods is now 2 strokes over the projected cut line after getting a bogey on hole No. 12 (475 yards, par-4). It marks Woods' third bogey of the second round so far. He drops to 2-over on the day and 6-over for the tournament.

Patrick Cantlay tied for first place

American Patrick Cantlay is back atop the leaderboard after getting a birdie on hole No. 11 (490-yards, par-4). It marked Cantlay’s second birdie of the day. He rebounded nicely from a double bogey on hole No. 8 and is tied with Ludvig Aberg for first place. Cantlay is in pursuit of his first major title.

Tiger Woods flirting with the cut

Tiger Woods missed a birdie opportunity on hole No. 10 and saved par on hole No. 11 to remain at 5-over for the tournament and 1-over for the day, following two bogeys and one birdie on Friday. The cut line is projected at 4-over. The 15-time major winner previously missed the cut at the 2024 PGA Championship last month after making the cut for a record 24th consecutive time at the 2024 Masters in April. Woods is a three-time champion at the U.S. Open (2002, 2005, 2006).

Cantlay drops back

He double bogeys the eighth hole and is now at -4.

Cantlay, Pavon, Aberg tied for lead

Patrick Cantlay, Matthieu Pavon and Ludvig Aberg are deadlocked at the top of the leaderboard with an overall score of 5-under as they continue through Round 2. Although Cantlay led the trio with a first-round score of 5-under, stronger Friday performances from Pavon and Aberg have tied the race for the top spot. Cantlay has started Round 2 with an unremarkable quartet of pars, whereas Aberg has one birdie and Pavon has two birdies to catch up.

Bryson DeChambeau finishes at 4-under, tied for third

Bryson DeChambeau did not have as strong a second round outing as his 3-under performance Thursday. Still, weaker Round 2 results from other top contenders moved the American up to tied for third place. DeChambeau shot 1-under, hitting four bogies and five birdies along the course Friday.

Rory McIlroy wraps up second round at 3-under overall

Rory McIlroy let his lead slip after hitting 2-over in the second round Friday. The Round 1 leader started the day off shakily, shooting two bogies on the 11th and 15th holes. He recovered to maintain pars and hit a birdie on No. 3, but lost his touch again on No. 9, shooting his third bogey of the day. McIlroy now has an overall score of 3-under after a strong 5-under performance in the first round Thursday. He currently sits in fifth place as other competitors continue on the course.

Thomas Detry surges to top of leaderboard

Thomas Detry has five birdies through 12 holes in Friday's second and is tied for the lead at 5-under with Patrick Cantlay who tees off at 1:25 p.m.

After shooting 2-over in Thursday's first round, Hideki Matsuyama is 4-under on the day through 14 holes and up to seventh place at 2-under overall.

Four players tied for second at noon

Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, Thomas Detry and Ludvig Aberg are all 4-under overall, good for second place behind Patrick Cantlay (5-under), who tees off at 1:25 p.m.

McIlroy, who was tied for the lead entering the day, is 1-over on the day with two bogeys.

Bryson DeChambeau sinks long birdie, gets back to 3-under

After going 3-under in the first round, Bryson DeChambeau is even through 12 on Friday. He sunk a long birdie put on the 12th hole, his third birdie of the day – to go with three bogeys. He's tied for fourth at 3-under overall.

Tyrell Hatton, Thomas Detry on a birdie run

Tyrell Hatton moves to -3 under after two birdies in the last three holes to move into a four-way tie for third place. Thomas Detry birdies No. 11, 12 and 13 to move within one shot of the current leader Patrick Cantlay.

Scottie Scheffler frustrated

Both Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 ranked player in the world, and Rory McIlroy bogey No. 15 after their tee shots roll off the green. Scheffler misses his par putt and throws his golf club in frustration. Meanwhile, Xander Schauffele settles down with back-to-back birdies on No. 13 and 14 to sit at even par.

Patrick Cantlay tied for US Open lead entering Friday

“With the weather cooperating, it being warm, I imagine they can get the golf course as difficult as they want,” Patrick Cantlay said after shooting a 5-under in the first round.

“With the Bermuda greens and no rain in the forecast, I expect the golf course to play very difficult in the next few days.”

– Adam Schupak, Golfweek

PGA champion Xander Schauffele scrambling

PGA champion Xander Schauffele is off to a rocky start, opening with back-to-back bogeys in his first two holes. He bogeyed No. 10 and No. 11 before parring No. 12 to sit at +2 over. He bounces back with a birdie on No. 13.

DeChambeau, McIlroy bogey

The greens are proving to be tough this morning. Both Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy bogey their second hole of the day.  McIlroy misses a nine-foot putt for par, pushing it long.

Two big groups underway this morning

Round two of the US Open is off and running with two big groups underway. Bryson DeChambeau, tied for 4th, Viktor Hovland, Max Homa tees off at No. 1. And over at No. 10, it's co-leader Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler. McIlroy has a chance to birdie No. 10 for sole lead of the US Open, but misses a 12 foot putt. Opportunity wasted. He pars his first hole.

Sergio Garcia’s US Open off to strong start

When Sergio Garcia got a call from USGA officials on Monday, informing him that he’d been pushed into the field after finding his way onto the alternate list, the 2024 U.S. Open took on a very different feel, one in which Garcia was simply elated to be in the field, rather than thinking about his chances to secure a second major. After he opened play at Pinehurst No. 2 on Thursday with a first-round 69, the fiery Spaniard’s expectations have taken a markedly different outlook.

“Obviously to shoot under par in a U.S. Open, which is a championship that I love, it’s always great,” Garcia said. “To go bogey-free is even greater. It’s something that I give a lot of respect to, and I’m very proud of. I’ve had the pleasure of playing this championship 25 years in a row, so not a lot of people get to do that.”

US Open: Tony Finau in the hunt for first major win

Tony Finau’s name has moved up on the list of best players without a major championship.

Following Xander Schauffele’s victory last month at the PGA Championship, Finau is among the top-end players attempting to break through in similar fashion this week at Pinehurst No. 2 in the 2024 U.S. Open .

With a 2-under-par 68 in Thursday’s opening round, the six-time PGA Tour winner can contend in Pinehurst. Finau is three shots back of leader Patrick Cantlay, another player chasing that first major title.

“Getting off to a good start in any major championship is important,” said Finau, who has 10 top-10 finishes in major championships.

2024 US Open purse

The U.S. Open had the largest purse of the four men’s major championships in 2023, and that amount is going up in 2024 .

Mike Whan, the CEO of the United States Golf Association, announced Wednesday the purse for the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 was going up to $21.5 million, a $1.5 million increase from last year. In addition, the winner will take home $4.3 million, up from $4 million in 2023.

The winner of the first U.S. Open in 1895 took home $150.

In addition, every player will make at least $10,000, as players who miss the cut will pocket that amount.

At the Masters, the purse was $20 million with $3.6 going to the winner, Scottie Scheffler . The PGA Championship had a record purse of $18.5 million, with Xander Schauffele taking home $3.33 million .

How many golf courses are at Pinehurst?

There are 11 golf courses at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club , including the historic No. 2 course, site of the 2024 U.S. Open .

While No. 2 is the headliner, golfers around the world visit the Sandhills of North Carolina to experience a crowd of different layouts in Moore County.

Known as “The Cradle of American Golf,” Pinehurst is hosting the United States Golf Association’s 1,000th championship this week. The No. 2 course has hosted four men’s U.S. Open tournaments in the last 25 years.

Rory McIlroy's US Open off to great start

Rory McIlroy harnessed the power of positive thinking to get a flawless start to his latest U.S. Open campaign on Thursday, carding a five-under par 65 at Pinehurst as he hopes to finally break his decade-long drought at the majors.

"I guess I've had some success by the sort of mindset that I've brought in, especially last year at LACC," McIlroy told reporters. "The golf course is a little different to what it was last year, but still the same strategy, same mindset."

"I really feel like that's the thing that has served me well in these U.S. Opens over the past few years," said McIlroy, who won his last major at the 2014 PGA Championship.

Bryson DeChambeau wins U.S. Open: See how final round unfolded

10 Min Read

Change Text Size

Bryson DeChambeau fired a final-round 71 to win the U.S. Open by one stroke over Rory McIlroy. It is DeChambeau's second major victory. He won the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot.

What started as a three-shot DeChambeau lead quickly got interesting after a shaky start. DeChambeau made the turn in 1-over 36 while McIlroy was 2-under. That cut the lead to one, and by the end of the 12th hole, the lead had flipped. McIlroy made four birdies in five holes, canning a birdie on the 13th to briefly take a two-shot lead. But it was DeChambeau who managed his game best down the stretch. Playing in the group behind McIlroy, DeChambeau answered with a birdie on the 13th, limiting the damage from there. He dropped just one shot in the closing five holes, hitting the green in regulation on the final five holes. And other than a three-putt at the 15th, DeChambeau made relatively stress-free pars until the 72nd hole.

After watching McIlroy miss a 4-foot par putt on 18, DeChambeau sunk one of his own. It’s those small margins that decided the tournament.

It will be another haunting loss for McIlroy, who had his best chance to win a major over this 10-year winless drought. McIlroy led late into the back nine but will rue his nervy putts. Just as he grasped momentum, he let it slip away. He bogeyed the par-3 15th after missing the green long, then missed a pair of 4-foot par putts on 16 and 18 to lose the golf tournament.

McIlroy is still searching for his first major victory since the 2014 PGA Championship. After he lost the 2023 U.S. Open, McIlroy said he would go through 100 Sundays of major championship defeat to get another major.

One down. Hopefully, he won’t need 99 more to get the monkey off his back.

Here's a breakdown of how the final round played out:

6:38 p.m.: What drama! DeChambeau's lie was anything but clean in the native area on the 18th. All he can do is chop it out into the bunker. Facing a 55-yard bunker shot, DeChambeau hits one of the shots of his life, which trundles to 4 feet. It goes in. A no-doubter. DeChambeau wins the U.S. Open, his second major championship.

6:27 p.m.: DeChambeau makes par at 17, setting up a duel on 18. McIlroy drives it well left and does not have a good lie. He hacks it out of the rough, then chips it to 4 feet. At the same time, DeChambeau tees off and goes well left, too. His lie is considerably better. And then an excruciating moment. He missed the 4 footer, his second short miss in three holes. He makes bogey to post 5-under. DeChambeau can win it with a par.

6:16 pm.: No changes after each player finishes their latest hole. McIlroy makes par at 17, DeChambeau makes par at 16. They are still tied for the lead 6-under. McIlroy's got one hole left, DeChambeau has two. Could we be headed for a playoff?

6:04 p.m.: McIlroy! Just as DeChambeau three-putted, McIlroy does the same at the 16th. Disastrous moment and he's tied with DeChambeau again at 6-under after that bogey. Meanwhile, it gives Cantlay one last glimmer of hope. He bogeyed the 16th, too, to drop to 4-under. Still just two back with two to play.

5:57 p.m.: Oh, no Dechambeau! His first three-putt of the week comes at the worst time. He had less than 30 feet for birdie on the par-3 15th and left with a bogey. Brutal result. That puts McIlroy back up by a shot. McIlroy is 7-under; DeChambeau 6-under; Cantlay 5-under.

5:49 p.m.: Mistake by McIlroy! Leading by a shot, McIlroy goes long of the difficult par-3 15th hole and does well just to get his pitch shot on the green. It was in the native area with a bad lie. McIlroy takes two putts from 30 feet and makes bogey. Cantlay misses a makeable birdie putt, but his deficit is only two. DeChambeau made par at 14 and watched all this unfold from the tee box. That will be an interesting dynamic in the closing few holes. McIlroy is 7-under; Dechambeau 7-under, Cantlay 5-under.

5:27 p.m.: McIlroy's lead is now one. DeChambeau bounces back beautifully, roasting a drive that manages to stay on the green, 28 feet away from the hole. DeChambeau can't pay off the unbelievable tee shot with an eagle, leaving his putt one foot short, but he does his job and cuts the deficit in half. McIlroy is 8-under; DeChambeau 7-under; Cantlay 5-under.

5:18 p.m.: What a swing! DeChambeau hits another wayward tee shot, but this time it costs him. His ball is up against a tuft of grass and his only option is to chop it out. He hits his third to 22 feet and he can't sink the putt. He drops to 6-under. Up ahead, McIlroy hits his tee shot over the green on the drivable par-4 13th. He hits a delicate chip 5 feet by and holes the comebacker for birdie. It's his fourth birdie in five holes. All the putts are dropping. McIlroy is at 8-under, two ahead of DeChambeau. Cantlay is still lurking at 5-under. McIlroy now in the driver's seat to win his first major championship in 10 years. Can he hold on?

5:03 p.m.: This is quickly becoming an epic final round and we've got a long way to the finish! DeChambeau displays more of his incredible touch around the greens, navigating a wayward tee shot and approach. He hits his greenside bunker shot to 7 feet and makes the slippery putt for par. But up ahead, McIlroy is creating more roars. This time, McIlroy holes a curling right-to-left putt for birdie. He's at 7-under following birdies on three of his last four holes. McIlroy and DeChambeau are tied at the top! Cantlay, meanwhile, bogeyed the 12th hole to drop to 4-under, suddenly three shots back of the co-leaders.

4:45 pm.: It's a three-horse race, and it's a heck of a race! McIlroy pours in a 28-foot birdie on the par-5 10th to tie for the lead at 6-under. Meanwhile, DeChambeau is in the native area behind him. Right after McIlroy, Cantlay holes a birdie from just inside McIlroy's line. That keeps Cantlay in it at 5-under. Up to DeChambeau to match, he sticks it to 5 feet and holes the putt! True theater right now on the back nine of the U.S. Open!

4:20 p.m.: Oh, things are heating up at Pinehurst. McIlroy pours in a birdie on the par-3 ninth and makes the turn in 34, 5-under for the tournament. DeChambeau could hear the roars, then created some of his own, making an unbelievable up-and-down from long of the eighth hole. DeChambeau lets out a big yell as he holes the 16-foot par putt to remain 6-under, one shot ahead of McIlroy. Meanwhile, Cantlay missed an 8-footer for birdie. He's 4-under, two back as he makes the turn.

4:12 p.m.: The battle for low am comes to a close, and it's a historic one. Neal Shipley bests Luke Clanton by two shots. Clanton had a chance to tie on the 18th green, but three-putted from 5 feet. Shipley becomes the sixth player to earn low amateur honors at the Masters Tournament and U.S. Open in the same season and first since Viktor Hovland in 2019.

3:50 p.m.: McIlroy isn't the only chaser in the mix. Patrick Cantlay sticks his approach to 4 feet on the par-4 seventh hole and makes the birdie putt. After an early bogey, Cantlay gets back to level par for the day, 4-under for the tournament. DeChambeau couldn't take advantage of the par-5 fifth hole and was forced to get up and down on the par-3 sixth hole to stay at 6-under. For as good as DeChambeau played on Saturday, he's looked a bit shaky through the opening third of this final round.

3:26 p.m.: The fifth hole bites Rory McIlroy once more. After a towering drive put McIlroy in the middle of the fairway, he nearly hits a perfect shot to the par-5 to set up an eagle try. Instead, it takes a slope off the green and into the native area. He can't advance his pitch onto the green, instead ending up in the bunker. He hits it to 22 feet and misses the putt. He makes bogey and drops back to 4-under. His only solace is that DeChambeau made bogey on No. 4 behind him. DeChambeau is at 6-under, two clear of McIlroy.

3:07 p.m.: The battle for low amateur is alive and well! Ohio State's Neal Shipley and Florida State's Luke Clanton are tied at 5-over, playing together. Both made birdie on the 13th hole. It will be a nervy final five holes for that twosome, duking it out for low am honors!

2:50 p.m.: DeChambeau starts par-par, a solid start when you've built a three-stroke lead through 54 holes. McIlroy has cut that deficit to two with a birdie at No. 2, but none of the other challengers are doing much. In fact, a couple have gone backwards. Åberg made a triple-bogey at No. 2, his second of the week. He bounced back with a birdie at No. 3, but is just even-par, seven shots back. Those two triples look like they will cost Åberg a chance at his first major. Tony Finau has also dropped two shots and Pavon made an early bogey. Only McIlroy and Cantlay are within three shots of DeChambeau.

2:34 p.m.: On the other side of the golf course, Scottie Scheffler finished his U.S. Open with a par on the 18th. He shot 71-74-71-72 to finish 8-over. It's his first time shooting four over-par rounds this year and marks the end of a disappointing week for the world No. 1. Scheffler couldn't have entered the year's third major stronger, winning the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday last week. That didn't materialize into much at Pinehurst. He will look to get back on track at the Travelers Championship next week.

2:25 p.m.: The final group is on the golf course and, oh, how the stories are already developing. McIlroy birdied the first hole to separate from the pack at 4-under and jump to 5-under, two back of DeChambeau. Meanwhile, DeChambeau had to make a last-minute gear switch, changing driver heads on the range after the face of his normal gamer flattened. It never fails to get weird during the final round of a major.

2:00 p.m.: Matsuyama and Åberg, the third-to-last group, is off, and not much has changed toward the top of the leaderboard. Nobody has made an inspired charge up the leaderboard, with the low round of the day only 2-under. That’s to be expected at a difficult Pinehurst, which has firmed up throughout the week. But someone will need to do the unexpected to win the U.S. Open. Could Matsuyama or Åberg be that come-from-behind challenger?

Is It Too Late to Buy Nvidia Stock Now?

June 18, 2024 — 04:30 am EDT

Written by Adria Cimino for The Motley Fool  ->

Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) has been around since the early 1990s and progressively grew earnings over the years by serving the video game industry. The company makes graphics processing units (GPUs), the chips that fuel the speed and action needed to make games come alive on the screen. But Nvidia only took center stage in recent years, when it became clear its GPUs also would be gamechangers for something else: artificial intelligence (AI).

Though Nvidia still serves the gaming industry, revenue from that area today is a fraction of overall revenue -- while revenue from AI represents the lion's share. Earnings have grown in the triple digits in the past several quarters, and revenue continues to reach new records. Nvidia's stock price has followed, soaring more than 3,500% over the past five years -- and it even roared past $1,000 a few weeks ago.

Most recently, Nvidia completed a 10-for-1 stock split, bringing the share price down from those levels to make it more accessible to a broader range of investors. This means right now Nvidia trades for about $130 a share, and this does make it easier for those with smaller budgets -- or those who want to open a small position -- to invest in the stock. That's positive. Now, though, the question is whether Nvidia can once again take off and deliver great returns to investors in the coming years. Is it too late to buy this high-flying stock now? Let's find out.

An investor leans back in a chair and looks pensively at a laptop screen.

Nvidia's top-performing products

Nvidia has climbed for one big reason: the top performance of its products. The tech giant sells the fastest chip around, which means customers can train large language models and complete other AI tasks quickly -- more quickly than if they relied on a rival chip. This is positive because it speeds up the time to commercialization for their products and services, allowing them to generate revenue sooner rather than later from their AI platforms.

And, as Nvidia chief executive officer Jensen Huang emphasizes, this time saved also equals lower expenses. It's costly to run a data center, so any element that can speed up operations can reduce various expenses -- from energy to workforce. This means it may be worth it for a company to pay more for an Nvidia GPU rather than go for a bargain chip from another player -- over time, this investment may actually lead to cost savings for the customer.

Importantly, customers are recognizing this. Demand is high for Nvidia chips as well as the company's full range of other AI products and services, and this has driven the earnings growth I mentioned earlier. In the most recent quarter, Nvidia reported record revenue of $26 billion, net income of $14.8 billion, and gross margin that's expanded to more than 78% from about 64% in the year-earlier period.

Seeing the strength of Nvidia's products and how they're driving earnings growth, investors have been eager to get in on this success story. This is great, but it's important to look ahead for clues about whether this success story can continue.

Blackwell followed by "other Blackwells"

And here, the situation looks promising, thanks to Nvidia's commitment to innovation. Nvidia pledges to update its GPUs on an annual basis, gaining in speed and capabilities. It plans to launch the Blackwell architecture later this year along with its best chip ever -- and it aims to follow with "other Blackwells" thereafter. Nvidia says customers are in the early days of this AI build out, and forecasts for AI market growth corroborate the idea that we're just at the start of AI growth. Today, the AI market is about $200 billion, and it's expected to increase to more than $1 trillion by the end of the decade.

So, Nvidia's commitment to innovation, current leadership, and the general forecasts for market growth all suggest the company's earnings growth will continue for quite some time.

Nvidia's valuation has increased over the past several weeks, and now the stock trades at 50x times forward earnings estimates , up from around 35 earlier this year. So the stock has become more expensive -- but considering the strengths I mention above, for the long-term investor, Nvidia is worth the price.

Of course, following the recent stock split, the shares might not immediately soar. Investors may wait for catalysts like the next earnings report or the launch of Blackwell to get in on the stock. But, over the long run, Nvidia has what it takes to roar higher again -- and that means it isn't too late to buy this top AI stock.

Jennifer lopez & ben affleck's $65m house sale divides real estate experts, ben & j lo $65m house sale ... divides l.a. real estate market.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez 's mega-mansion sale is sparking debate in L.A.'s luxury real estate market ... and TMZ's got insight from both sides on whether it's worth the price tag.

As we first told you ... Ben and Jen are looking to offload their $60 million Bev Hills home for a cool $65 mil -- and while some have scoffed at the asking price behind closed doors ... others have told us it's actually a Goldie Locks number ... meaning it's just right.

Benjamin Bacal -- from Revel Real Estate, who reps high-end clients in L.A. -- tells us $65M is perfect for asking ... as he feels it fits the home's scope/scale. He tells us ... if it's good enough for A-listers like Ben and Jen, then it's good enough for anyone.

Another big-time L.A. real estate agent -- who also handles A-list clientele -- backs that up ... with our source saying he doesn't think the asking price is unreasonable, especially since it's a uniquely large estate on considerable land. In other words ... they might get their number.

In fact ... we're told this agent actually has a buyer that's interested in the house -- but as of now, no offer has been put in ... at least not yet. Point is ... someone's eyeballing it!

However, another L.A. agent who's knee-deep in the celeb game isn't buying it, quite literally. They tell us they're skeptical, saying there's no way that house is gonna go for over $40 million ... which is quite a different take from the previous two agents, who are aligned.

He explains to us between the loss they'll take on brokers' fees and the CA Real Property Transfer Tax and Measure ULA, they're going to lose at least $6.5 mil right there. Hence, why they've probably zeroed in on their final number -- 'cause they know they're gonna take a hit.

As far as this last agent is concerned, they shouldn't have listed it for more than $50 million, especially if they want to sell it quickly amid their looming divorce. Remember ... Josh Altman recently echoed this sentiment as well -- he suggested Ben and Jen would likely take a loss .

One last thing this agent points out to us on why he thinks $65 mil is high -- the house was on the market for a long time before Ben/Jen snapped it up ... so it could be on the market for 2-3+ years if they're not able to find any takers. Until it's officially listed, we won't know.

Clearly ... there are some who think Bennifer is on the right track to sell this place, and others who call BS. Like we said, it's a pocket listing for now -- and it's only a matter of time before we find out what's what.

Cincinnati Bengals News

Bengals unlikely to use franchise tag on WR Tee Higgins in 2025?

Fans who appreciate the value wide receivers provide will be in for a treat during the weeks leading up to training camp, as numerous high-profile wideouts are engaged in contract situations.

The Bengals technically have a deadline prior to camp, but nothing this offseason has pointed to it being especially consequential.

Tee Higgins is widely expected to play this season on the franchise tag. He and the Bengals have not negotiated in more than a year , and an offer south of $20M per year came from the team during those 2023 talks .

Although Jessie Bates refrained from signing his tender until barely two weeks remained until Week 1, Higgins took the step to lock in his $21.82M salary earl y. As a result, Higgins will be contractually required to attend camp.

This may represent a positive step for the parties’ relationship, but the prospect of it concluding after five seasons remains squarely on the radar. The Bengals letting Higgins play on the tag this year will give them the option to restart negotiations after the season.

It will also open the door to a second tag in 2025. That would cost $26.2M to apply, and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler refers to a re-tag scenario as unlikely to transpire.

Citing a second tag’s cost and the team’s plans for a Ja’Marr Chase extension, Fowler points to a path for Higgins to play out his tag year and reach free agency. Additionally, Fowler notes talks between the parties have been “all but nonexistent” as of late.

The rental route is how the Bengals proceeded with Bates, who shares an agent with Higgins. Bates departed in free agency after receiving a below-market Bengals offer at the July 2022 tag deadline, ultimately scoring by far the biggest deal (four years, $64M) among free agent safeties 2023.

Considering the value gap between wide receivers and safeties, the Bengals receiving nothing for Higgins — beyond a potential 2026 compensatory pick — would sting. But the team does have a monster Chase payment — in all likelihood — to make. Joe Burrow ‘s cap number also rises considerably next year, increasing from $29.6M to $46.3M.

Only one wide receiver over the past decade has been tagged twice. The Buccaneers cuffed Chris Godwin in 2021 and again in ’22; the parties reached an extension days after the second tag.

On the whole, 10 players have been tagged twice since 2014 . Godwin, Kirk Cousins , Le’Veon Bell , Trumaine Johnson , DeMarcus Lawrence , Dak Prescott , Justin Simmons , Brandon Scherff , Leonard Williams  and Cam Robinson represent that club.

This group collectively went 6-4 in signing extensions with the team that tagged them. Cousins, Bell, Johnson and Scherff departed in free agency.

The Bengals’ history with the franchise tag illustrates they are fine letting a player move on after a rental season. The team has not extended a tag recipient since Mike Nugent in 2013, with Rudi Johnson (2005) and Carl Pickens (1999) the only other players the Bengals have extended after tagging them.

The organization has completed one tag-and-trade move — DT Dan Wilkinson in 1998 — though this would seemingly be an avenue to recoup some value for Higgins.

Even with Burrow’s 2025 cap number and Chase’s fifth-year option figure ($21.82M) accounted for, the Bengals are projected to carry more than $43M in cap space in 2025. That number will certainly fluctuate over the next several months, but the team could have the option of tagging Higgins. As for the fifth-year wideout, he can elevate his value with a bounce back season.

Higgins’ 2023 slate featured his own injury trouble and then Burrow’s, ending with a career-low 656 yards. As WR salaries boom, a number of other matters — those involving CeeDee Lamb , Tyreek Hill , Brandon Aiyuk and Amari Cooper — stand to affect the market’s upper reaches.

A third 1,000-yard season would put Higgins in strong position come 2025, and the Bengals would face some pressure regarding a second tag.

For now, Cincinnati joins San Francisco in gearing up for another season with its longtime wide receiver duo in the fold. Having reached Super Bowl LVI and pushed the Chiefs to the brink in the ensuing AFC championship game, the Bengals will hope Burrow’s return can reignite their championship quest.

Although Higgins may well be a rental and Chase the core piece, the team’s WR2 represents a central component to Cincy’s title hopes this year.
