Originally known as “Ogmok,” this place has a rich past that dates back to the Spanish colonization era. It provided a safe haven for many people and its fertile plains proved advantageous for cultivating various crops. The early settlers, mostly Malayans, engaged in trade with Chinese, Indonesian, and Javanese merchants, establishing a thriving trading system. However, their peaceful existence was disrupted by the attacks of the notorious Moro pirates. To protect themselves, the settlers developed a warning system using lookout towers to safeguard against potential invasions.
In 1595, Jesuit missionaries arrived, embarking on a mission to introduce Christianity to the settlers. But the city faced turmoil once again in 1634 when Raja Bungsu of Sulu captured 300 Ogmok settlers, following the pirate invasion. Despite their valiant efforts to resist, the settlers tragically fell victim to a devastating massacre due to their limited resources and manpower.
Fast forward to 1950, Ormoc experienced a remarkable resurgence, marked by the construction of various infrastructures. The city witnessed the establishment of hospitals, an airport, factories, and more, setting the stage for its progressive development.

Lake Kasudsuran

Ruins of Cong. Dominador Tan Residence
Another tourist spot in Ormoc City, built-in 1930 and became a Japanese garrison during world war II. Before th e liberation, the mansion was damaged during the bombing of Ormoc. The attack was known as the “Battle of Ormoc Bay.”

Sunduan ha Carigara
This event happens during Holy Week, and the peak of it takes place on Easter Sunday. The primary focus of this festivity is the risen Lord, celebrating His resurrection.
