Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, Riverdance may be tapping its way to a city near you.

All year long, the traveling show is dropping into major cities all over North America including Scranton, Detroit, Cincinnati, Austin, San Diego and many more up until June 11.

Now in its 29th year of existence, Riverdance hasn’t lost a step.

The theatrical production featuring Irish folk music, dance and stories of the ancient past all the way to the modern day, is just as polished as ever as evidenced by a recent, breathtaking appearance on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.”

What to know about Riverdance

Riverdance, which exploded onto the scene with a now legendary performance at the 1994 Eurovision contest, is a two hour and 15 minute show with a single intermission.

The most modern iteration of Bill Whelan and Michael Flatley’s show — now over 15,000 performances strong since its inception — includes new visual and audio effects.

“Veteran Riverdance followers will appreciate the quite amazing 3D animated backdrops that give each scene new perspective—a realistic babbling brook or a haunting moonlit night,” according to the Maryland Theatre Guide .

And each show doesn’t just pay homage to Irish culture. There’s also Russian, flamenco, and NYC street dance thrown in for good measure.

Abhann Productions is thrilled to announce that the 25 th anniversary production of Riverdance will continue its critically acclaimed tour in over 50 cities across North America in 2023. Stops on the tour include a performance at Purdue University’s Elliott Hall of Music on March 26, 2023 . Riverdance completed a successful 40-city North American Tour recently, which marked the dance phenomenon’s long-awaited return to stages after the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. The 2022 tour included a sold-out, two-week inaugural run at Washington DC’s historic Kennedy Center , a special performance for President Joe Biden and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and national television appearances on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Good Morning America , GMA3 , and Watch What Happens Live. The 2023 Tour recently kicked off with a special performance on America’s Got Talent , seen by over 7 million people across the country.

The critically acclaimed 25 th Anniversary North American Tour was shut down in March 2020 during a sold-out return engagement to New York City’s Radio City Music Hall due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, Riverdance celebrated a return to the stage in the United Kingdom, where the iconic show played to sold out audiences in 27 cities across the country. Then followed its debut at Expo 2020 Dubai with a special production of Riverdance presenting a multi-cultural experience including artists from the Middle East region. A highlight of the four-week run was the Riverdance performance at the USA Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai for their Thanksgiving Day celebrations. In 2022, Riverdance returned home to Dublin, Ireland for the summer season with an incredible 88 sold out shows.

Riverdance The Animated Adventure was released on Netflix in the United States on January 14, 2022, where it swiftly landed a spot on the streamer’s Global Top 10 list. With an original score by Grammy Award-winning composer Bill Whelan , the animated musical comedy features the incredible craft and skill of the Riverdance troupe by utilizing motion capture of their performances to create the animated dancing in the film. Tour lead dancers Maggie Darlington and Anna Mai Fitzpatrick and Executive Producer/Director Padraic Moyles were involved with the dance production for the film, while tour musicians Mark Alfred and Tara Howley play on the film score.

Riverdance began its journey as the interval act in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, produced for television by Moya Doherty . This electrifying and innovative seven-minute dance piece was then developed into a full-length stage show by Producer Moya Doherty , Composer Bill Whelan and Director John McColgan . With its fusion of Irish and International music and dance, the show broke all box office records during its world première run in Dublin in early 1995. When the show transferred to London the reaction was unprecedented. There followed a hugely successful tour starting in New York in March 1996, where 8 sold-out shows at Radio City Music Hall heralded the start of more than two decades of touring by Riverdance companies throughout North America. Riverdance 25th Anniversary Show will tour over 40 cities across North America in four months, beginning on March 4, 2022 in Salt Lake City, Utah and will include a two-week run at the history Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Tickets for Riverdance 25th Anniversary Show are now on sale.

The company includes TikTok sensations Matthew and Michael Gardiner ( @gardinerbrothers ) and Morgan Bullock ( @yourangleyuordevil ), whose performance of Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage Remix" went viral on the platform in 2020 and will make her professional US stage debut in this production. Riverdance is a theatrical show consisting of traditional Irish step dancing, notable for it's rapid leg movements while body and arms are kept largely stationary. It originated as an interval performance during the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, a moment that is still considered a significant watershed in Irish culture. This DVD was filmed LIVE in the Beijing Exhibition Centre to celebrate the shows 15th Anniversary as part of it's 12 city tour of China in 2010.

U.S. citizens should heed the  Travel Advisory  for Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. The U.S. Embassy continues to closely monitor the dynamic security situation in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. There are active military operations and active rocket and mortar fire in Gaza and the Gaza periphery.  Terrorist groups, lone-actor terrorists and other violent extremists continue plotting possible attacks in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. Terrorists and violent extremists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, and local government facilities. Violence can occur in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza without warning. If you require emergency assistance while in Israel, the West Bank or Gaza, contact the  U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem  by email ( [email protected] for those in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza or [email protected] for those in Israel outside of Jerusaleml).

Individuals seeking to depart Gaza: As of May 7, the Israel Defense Forces control the Gaza side of the Rafah Crossing. Since that day, the Rafah Crossing between Egypt and Gaza has remained closed. As soon as the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem receives information regarding new exit procedures from Gaza to Egypt, including when crossings resume, we will communicate this to the public immediately.

This remains a complex situation with serious implications for the safety and security of U.S. citizens. U.S. citizens in Gaza in need of assistance should contact [email protected] . U.S. citizens in Gaza are reminded that the U.S. government is unable to provide routine or emergency consular services to U.S. citizens in Gaza as U.S. government employees are prohibited from traveling there.

The U.S. government does not control who is permitted to depart Gaza or enter Egypt. Individuals must assess their own safety and risks in attempting to cross the border. Individuals permitted to enter Egypt will likely receive a 72-hour Egyptian visa; all those who cross should have a plan for onward travel from Egypt in this timeframe. U.S. citizens, LPRs and their immediate family members who successfully enter Egypt and require further consular assistance should contact the  U.S. Embassy in Cairo  via the  U.S. Citizens Services Navigator .  Individuals may apply for a U.S. visa at any U.S. Embassy or Consulate; U.S. immigration laws and regulations will apply.

We continue to work in partnership with Egypt and Israel towards safe passage for U.S. citizens, LPRs, and their immediate family members.

Immediate family members of U.S. citizens include:

• unmarried children under the age of 21, and
• parents of U.S. citizens.

If the U.S. citizen is under 21, immediate family will also include any siblings who are also unmarried and under 21.

Immediate family members of LPRs include:

• unmarried children under 21 years of age.

Riverdance in Moscow

At last we arrived into Moscow on the Monday after a two and half hour flight, and the first thing we experienced was a very long wait for passport control, we were queuing for over an hour, but were still excited to finally be in Russia. Even though it was late when we got to hotel, Alexi one of the Male members of the Russian dancers had organised a night club to open for us owned by a friend of his, it was only open to us and not the public, we were able to get both food and drink there. The interior of the club was amazing as it was furnished with white leather couches, low ceilings with a modern décor. We were told that it is very hard to gain entry to the club on a normal night as it very expensive and tables are reserved way in advance.

Tuesday we had the day off so we were free to roam about ourselves, most of us spent the day finding our way around Moscow and The Kremlin. There was so much to see in Moscow, we had something to see everyday up until Saturday when we left. The company had employed translators while we were in Moscow, so one of the girls named Toma was kind enough to give us some of her time by showing us round the Kremlin and Red Square, so in a way we had our own private tour. The architecture within the Kremlin and The Red Square is simply out of this world, you could not even try to explain it, even the photos below do not do it justice, it really has to been seen with your own eyes!

Just off The Red Square underground there is a shopping centre which was very European. It had shops such as Topshop, Oasis, Mango, Pull and Bear, Accessorize and quit a few more. The only problem with the shops was that they were very expensive, but Moscow in general is pretty expensive.

One thing that I found amazing was the traffic problems in Moscow city, drivers don’t seem to worry too much about staying in lanes or obeying traffic lights etc, it was even a scary experience trying to cross the road. There doesn’t seem to be rules of the road, I personally would not like to be a learner driver over there!

On the last night Alexi again organised another night for the company.This time we were able to sample some real authentic Russian food and drink, and we had another very enjoyable night. On behalf of the company I would like to say a big thanks to Alexi and his wife Louba who were so good to us in Moscow, as they organised loads for us, and we also great at translating into English for us.

We were kind of sad to leave Moscow, but excited at the same time to see St. Petersburgh as we had heard that it was completely different to Moscow.
