The big mass sport race within the Lidl Deutschland Tour will take place in Saarbrücken on August 25. Start and finish are in the city center of Saarbrücken and the course will again run over parts of the elite course this year. Shortly before the professionals of the Lidl Deutschland Tour contest their final stage in Saarbrücken, you have the chance to enjoy the fully closed streets of the captial of the saarland.

Cycling Tour – a race for everyone

The roads belong to you at the finale of the Deutschland Tour. Based in the south-west of Germany, Saarbrücken will host the start and finish of the TK Cycling Tour. Before the pros finish the fourth stage in and around Saarbrücklen on Sunday, August 25th, the Cycling Tour, a race for everyone, will take place.

You can choose between a shorter race or a longer version. The longer course is aimed at ambitious hobby cyclists, and the shorter course is welcoming to beginners and can even be ridden on tandem bikes or totally without time measurement.

„Weserrunde“ oder „Bremer Runde“ – Strecken der TK Cycling Tour stehen fest

Der große Finalsonntag der Deutschland Tour beginnt auch in diesem Jahr wieder mit den Radfans, die selbst fahren. Am 27. August findet die TK Cycling Tour in Bremen statt. Aus zwei Strecken können die 3.000 Teilnehmenden wählen – beide beginnen im Schatten der ikonischen Flutlichtmasten des Weserstadions. Von dort geht es über 106 oder 67 Kilometer auf flachen Kursen raus nach Niedersachsen und zurück.

Wo der SV Werder in der Bundesliga Emotionen entfacht, erleben alle Radsportbegeisterten den Auftakt in einen grandiosen Tag. Nach dem Start am Weserstadion führen sowohl die lange „Weserrunde“ als auch die kürzere „Bremer Runde“ zunächst nach Süden und kreuzen die Halbinsel Stadtwerder, ehe die Grenzen des Bundeslandes über die Stadtviertel Habenhausen, Obervieland und Arsten passiert werden.

Flachlandkurs mit kleinem Berg-Highlight

Beide Strecken der TK Cycling Tour nehmen danach Kurs auf Syke. Nahe der Kleinstadt haben die Streckenplaner etwas gefunden, das rund um Bremen beinahe einzigartig ist: einen Anstieg. Nach etwa 20 absolvierten Kilometern geht es leicht bergauf. Knapp 50 Höhenmeter müssen auf rund 2 Kilometern überwunden werden. Hügeliger wird es nicht mehr. Dafür aber vielleicht windiger. Denn außerhalb der Stadtgrenzen warten auf die Teilnehmenden vor allem die niedersächsische Landschaft mit Wiesen, Feldern und langen Alleen-Abschnitten.

Rückweg auf den Spuren der Profis

Bei Emtinghausen trennen sich beide Strecken. Während die „Bremer Runde“ den Rückweg antritt, nimmt die „Weserrunde“ erst richtig Fahrt auf. Über Schwarme und Martfeld geht es in südöstlicher Richtung bis nach Hoya, dem am weitesten entfernten Punkt des Rennens. Halbzeit für die Langdistanz! Dort treffen die ambitionierten Hobbyathleten und -athletinnen nicht nur erneut auf den namensgebenden Fluss ihrer Runde, sondern auch auf den Kurs der Profis. Zurück nach Bremen geht es über Blender und Thedinghausen. Dort vereint sich die „Weserrunde“ wieder mit der „Bremer Runde“. Nur ein paar Kilometer später wird zwischen Ahausen und Dreye bekanntes Terrain erreicht. So, wie es aus Bremen heraus ging, geht es auch wieder hinein.

Durch die Altstadt zum Ziel in der Überseestadt

Vorbei am Weserstadion führen die letzten Kilometer weiter den Osterdeich hinunter. Zunächst in Fließrichtung direkt entlang der Weser und vorbei am Schnoor, dem ältesten Viertel der Stadt, dessen schmale Gassen ihre Wurzeln im Mittelalter haben. Dann wechselt der Parcours mitten in der Altstadt die Seiten des Stadtzentrums und führt vorbei an den alten Wallanlagen in die Überseestadt und den Europahafen. Unter dem Jubel der Besuchenden fahren die Teilnehmenden der TK Cycling Tour auf die lange Zielgerade in der Konsul-Smidt-Straße.

How does the TK Bonus Plan work?

One year of participation in the TK Bonus Plan lasts 12 months. First, you have to register. You can then record your health-promoting activities and reward yourself with a health bonus. Another year of participation begins when the first 12 months have expired.

If you would like to take part in the TK-Bonus Plan, all you have to do is:

• Register You can register for the TK Bonus Plan online in the TK-App or in the German-language area "Meine TK". If you do not want to use the Bonus Plan online, please feel free to call us on 0800 - 285 85 85 and we will send you the registration documents by post.
• Submit activities Once you have registered, you have 12 months in which to record all the health-promoting activities you have undertaken during this time.
• Redeem your points for the participation year You must redeem the points within three months of the end of your participation year, otherwise you will forfeit them. We will then transfer you 10 EUR for each activity you submit. Alternatively, you can obtain a TK Health Dividend of 20 EUR per activity, which you can then put towards the cost of selected services. from the catalogue of benefits.

We went on a trip to Europe 3 years ago and never left. Our kid's life is way better here than it was in the US.

• My family and I went on an open-ended trip to Europe, and we ended up buying a house here. 
• We love living in Portugal — life is relaxed and our son gets lots of time outdoors.
• Although we will always have ties to the United States, we love living in Europe. 

In January 2019, my father died. For months, I was in a fog and, in an effort to lift our spirits, I asked my husband how he felt about an open-ended trip to Europe.

During our trip, we spent a long time in the Netherlands, where we learned more about the culture. We were especially impressed with how independent the children were.

We witnessed kids as young as 4 years old bike themselves to school past our rental house almost daily. It was far from the reality in the US, and this stop on our trip is where we began learning just how great Europe could be .

We planned to return to the US in early 2020, but then the coronavirus pandemic hit worldwide. We felt scared and confused, and going home seemed less of an option as some borders closed.

So, we extended our stay in Europe and then headed to Portugal, a place we were already familiar with.

We began renting a charming Airbnb in the Portuguese countryside and extended our trip so many times that the owners asked if we wanted to buy the house.

Affordable home prices in rural Portugal coupled with extremely low interest rates for mortgages allowed us to say yes.

Life began to feel calm and somewhat secure.

While my friends posted on social media about fighting in the supermarkets to buy toilet paper in the US, we were feeling OK. Our community was incredibly kind, and neighbors brought us food from their farms.

This temporary situation eventually became our new reality. We started to realize living in Europe may actually be a good idea for our family.

It's been 3 years since our 'accidental move,' and we have no regrets

We began referring to this journey as our "accidental move." We'd left for vacation with three suitcases, and suddenly, we were building an unexpected life in our new home in a new country.

In the US, life felt fast-paced and hurried, but moments feel savored here. Although it was initially challenging to adapt to, I now embrace the rhythm and want it for my son.

Witnessing many advantages — the ease of homeownership , exceptional healthcare, a safe environment, and a warm embrace by the community — solidified our decision to stay.

Here, our son thrives with ample outdoor time, easy access to healthy food, guaranteed medical care, and the constant opportunity to explore new cultures.

Though the US will always technically be home, and we'll always be connected to it through our chosen academic structure, our jobs, mandatory taxes, and our house there, we've certainly found Europe to be our sanctuary where we feel most peaceful.
