Lumen Field Tours

Lumen Field was originally the brainchild of Microsoft co-founder Paul G. Allen (1953-2018), who obtained an option to purchase the Seattle Seahawks in 1996. He then launched a campaign to build a new world-class football field, soccer stadium, and exhibition center on the site of the former Seattle Kingdome. Seahawks Stadium, as it was originally known, opened for the 2002 National Football League preseason. It was renamed Qwest Field in 2004, CenturyLink Field in 2011, and Lumen Field in 2022. Today, Lumen field is home to the Seattle Seahawks and Sounders FC .

Tours of Lumen Field are offered year around. However, tour dates are affected by the seasons, gamedays, and special events held throughout the year.  The roughly hour and 15-minute-long tour experience will give you a behind-the-scenes look at one of Seattle’s most iconic venues. T-Mobile Park Tours

Safeco Field officially opened for business on July 15, 1999. A capacity crowd of 47,000 attended the Inaugural Game against the San Diego Padres. On January 1, 2019, the ballpark became known as T-Mobile Park as part of a 25-year hometown partnership. At nearly 20 acres, the outdoor ballpark features real grass and state-of-the-art amenities, most notably its retractable roof.

Unlike other retractable roofs that completely enclose a stadium, the Seattle baseball field is covered by what is often described as a giant, moveable umbrella. Closing the roof requires three people but takes no more than 12 minutes. It’s so quiet, the roof can be closed while a game is in progress. The roof’s only purpose is to protect the fields from precipitation—not blazing summer heat as most other locations, which Seattle does not have. So, while players and fans will be protected from rain, Seattle’s mild temperatures remain as Mother Nature intends. While the roof can be closed if the weather takes a turn mid-game, it will not be opened again. Therefore, the roof is only closed when absolutely necessary, on average 20-25% of the time. Despite its reputation, Seattle’s average precipitation is lower than many other locations, such as Atlanta, Miami, and New Orleans. The difference with Seattle is we will experience our rain in drizzles rather than downpours. So it can seem like we have more rain than we do.

Tours of the baseball park are available on select Mariners gamedays. Pre-Game Tours will start 3-1/2 hours prior to first pitch and last about one hour. Visitors can enjoy early access to the ballpark, a facility tour, overview of team history, and an opportunity to watch pregame batting practice.

  • A game ticket (sold separately) for the same date is required in addition to a ticket for the pregame tour. Tickets : GA $50. Children 3 years old and younger will be free of charge. All others require a ticket.
  • Non-gameday tours are not offered last time we checked (April 5, 2023).

Lumen Field: Gate & Entrance Guide – Your Must-Know Facts

posted on October 9th 2023 by Charmaine Cortes // last updated on October 9th 2023

As a frequent visitor to Lumen Field, I can’t help but admire its central location in the SODO neighborhood of Seattle. Attending events at this iconic stadium is always a memorable experience, whether it be a Seattle Seahawks game or a mesmerizing concert performance. Before diving into the stadium’s gate and entrance guide, it’s essential to familiarize yourself with some must-know information to make your visit as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Lumen Field’s gate and entrance strategy is designed to provide maximum convenience for the attendees. With numerous gates and entrances spread around the stadium, you’ll find it hassle-free to enter, regardless of where your seat or parking spot is located. Just imagine the excitement building up as you approach the gates, ready to attend a vibrant match or event.

To ensure your visit to Lumen Field is an unforgettable experience, I’m here to provide you with a comprehensive gate and entrance guide that will cover everything you need to know. From the clear bag policy to the various accessibility services offered, you’ll be well-prepared to navigate Lumen Field like a pro!

Historical Background

General information, gate overview, entrance guidelines, facilities and amenities, parking and transportation, special events and tours.

tour seattle seahawks stadium

As a fan of the Seattle Seahawks, I’ve always been fascinated by Lumen Field and its history. Located in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood, this multi-purpose stadium is not only home to the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks but also to the Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer, the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL, and OL Reign of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) [source: Lumen Field – Wikipedia].

I remember when Lumen Field was originally called Seahawks Stadium. It underwent several name changes over the years, including Qwest Field and CenturyLink Field, before finally becoming Lumen Field in 2020 to honor its sponsor, Lumen Technologies.

One of the key features of Lumen Field that I find impressive is its architecture, which directs noise towards the field of play. This design has contributed to Lumen Field being considered by many as the loudest stadium in the NFL. This, along with the enthusiastic fans of Seattle, provides a unique and electric atmosphere during games.

When I first visited Lumen Field, I noticed that the seating is divided into four tiers – the Upper Level, Loge Level, Club Level, and Lower Level. The stadium boasts a capacity of over 65,000 fans, making it an exciting and unforgettable experience for everyone in attendance.

Together, the history, architecture, and passionate fan base all contribute to the amazing experience that is Lumen Field. As a fan, I am proud to call this fantastic stadium our home, and I look forward to the memories we’ll continue to create there in the years to come.

Field Capacity

Lumen Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders FC, has a seating capacity of around 68,740 spectators. This versatile stadium welcomes fans with an energetic atmosphere for various events, including football games, soccer matches, and concerts.

Field Surface

At Lumen Field, they use FieldTurf Revolution 360 as the playing surface. This state-of-the-art artificial turf provides optimal performance and safety for athletes while delivering a visually appealing experience for the spectators. It’s designed to mimic natural grass, and it’s been installed in many top-tier stadiums across the nation.

Lumen Field is conveniently situated in Seattle’s SODO neighborhood, just south of downtown. The area offers a wide range of dining and entertainment options for fans to explore before or after an event, making it an ideal spot for the complete game day experience. Getting to Lumen Field is easy, as there’s access to public transportation such as buses and light rail, as well as ample parking space for those who choose to drive.

Gate Locations

As someone visiting Lumen Field for an event, I find it important to know the different entrance gates available for me. From the information I gathered, various gates are spread around the stadium that cater to fans’ entry needs. Here are some of the popular entrance gates I’ve discovered for your reference:

These gates are well-marked and easily accessible for both first-time and regular visitors.

Gate Opening Times

One of my foremost concerns when attending an event at Lumen Field is arriving on time and having ample opportunity to grab some snacks and settle into my seat. It seems gate opening times vary based on the event, but for typical Seattle Sounders’ match days, stadium gates usually open 90 minutes prior to kickoff. This allows me enough time to find my seat, explore the stadium, and immerse myself in the matchday atmosphere.

Remember to always check specific event details for gate opening times, as they may differ.

Security Measures

At Lumen Field, ensuring the safety and security of all visitors is a top priority. To create a safe environment, Lumen Field has implemented various security policies, such as a clear bag policy and prohibited items list. It’s important for everyone to follow these guidelines to ensure a smooth and pleasant experience for all.

Prohibited Items

To ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone at Lumen Field, certain items are strictly prohibited from entering the stadium. Some of these items include:

  • Weapons of any kind
  • Explosives or fireworks
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Glass bottles or containers
  • Drones or other remote-controlled devices

For a complete list of prohibited items, it’s best to check Lumen Field’s official guidelines before attending any event.

Accessibilities

Lumen Field is dedicated to providing an inclusive and accessible experience for all of its guests. They offer a variety of accessibility services, such as:

  • Accessible seating and viewing areas
  • Elevators and ramps for easy navigation
  • Assistance from accessibility guides
  • Services for fans with sensory needs, such as Ben’s Sensory Room

By following these entrance guidelines and being aware of the security measures in place at Lumen Field, I believe we can all have an enjoyable and unforgettable experience at the stadium.

Food and Beverages

At Lumen Field, I found a variety of delicious food and beverages to keep me satisfied throughout the game. The concession stands offer a vast array of options, from classic stadium fare like hot dogs and nachos to local favorites like seafood and craft beer. There are also plenty of vegetarian and gluten-free choices, so everyone can find something to enjoy.

I noticed that restrooms are conveniently located throughout Lumen Field, making it easy to find one when I needed it. They are well-maintained and clean, with baby-changing stations and accessible stalls for those with mobility challenges.

In case I was low on cash, I found several ATMs dispersed throughout the stadium. This made it simple for me to grab some extra cash when needed for those cash-only transactions, such as purchasing souvenirs or tipping the helpful stadium staff.

First Aid Stations

Lastly, for my safety and well-being, Lumen Field has well-marked First Aid Stations staffed with trained medical professionals. If I needed medical assistance, I knew I was in good hands with the attentive and caring staff who are always ready to help. These stations are located around the stadium, ensuring prompt response in case of an emergency.

As a visitor to Lumen Field, you’d be interested to know about the parking facilities and transportation options available for events. I’d like to share details to make your visit as smooth as possible.

Parking Information

Lumen Field offers on-site parking in two lots connected to the stadium: the Lumen Field Parking Garage and the North Lot. These parking lots are open daily and rates may vary depending on the event. Please keep in mind that parking spots tend to fill up quickly on game days, so it’s best to arrive early if you plan to park on-site. You can also find alternative parking options at nearby garages or metered street parking:

  • Union Station Garage : Located at 820 4th Ave. S and is a convenient choice for parking near the stadium.
  • T-Mobile Park Parking Garage : A little further away, but may have additional availability.

Public Transport Directions

If you prefer taking public transportation to Lumen Field, you have numerous options available. Seattle Seahawks games and other major events are highly accessible through public transit. Some options you can consider are:

  • Link Light Rail : The Stadium Station is just a short walk from Lumen Field.
  • Sounder Train : Offers special services on event days and arrives at nearby King Street Station.
  • King County Metro Bus : Multiple bus routes serve the stadium area, making it easy to reach from various parts of the city.

By being prepared and knowing your parking and transportation options, I hope you have a great time at your Lumen Field event.

I recently learned that Lumen Field offers a variety of special events and tours that give fans an unforgettable experience. From thrilling football games to exciting concerts, there’s always something happening at the stadium. What I found most interesting was the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes tour of Lumen Field.

During these tours, guests can explore the stadium and see areas that are usually closed to the public. I found out that tickets for the tours can be purchased online, with prices at $25 for adults (12+), $18 for children (3-11), seniors (62+), and military personnel, while children 2 and under can attend for free. It’s a great way to learn more about the history of the stadium and experience what it’s like to be on the field where the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders FC play.

In addition to tours, Lumen Field hosts special events such as concerts by world-renowned artists. For these events, VIP ticket holders can enjoy early entry and additional perks, making the experience even more memorable. As a reminder, children aged 2 and under do not need a ticket to attend a Lumen Field event but must share a seat with an accompanying, ticketed adult.

Overall, the special events and tours at Lumen Field provide the perfect opportunity for fans to create lasting memories, regardless of their interests or age.

As a frequent visitor to Lumen Field, I can truly say that it’s a fantastic stadium for both sports lovers and event attendees alike. The variety of entrance gates, accessibility services, and helpful stadium staff make it a breeze to navigate and enjoy.

I recommend arriving early to find your designated entrance, as listed on your ticket. Remember that the stadium is cashless, so bring a debit or credit card for any purchases. Be sure to follow the clear bag policy for security reasons.

If you have any further questions or need assistance, please contact the Lumen Field staff at 206-381-7848. Wishing you a great time at the stadium!

Lumen Field

Lumen field information.

Opened in 2002, Lumen Field in downtown Seattle, Washington is truly one of the NFL's crown jewels of stadiums. Home of the Seattle Seahawks, Lumen Field offers breathtaking views of the Puget Sound, Olympic Mountains, downtown Seattle skyline and Mount Rainier. Lumen Field seats over 65,000 fans and is widely regarded as the loudest stadium in the NFL, attributable not only to the great fans of Seattle, but also to the architecture of the stadium which directs noise towards the field of play. Lumen Field is separated into 4 tiers - the Upper Level, Loge Level, Club Level and Lower Level. Only the Loge Level and Lower Level seats on the sidelines require PSLs (known as Seahawks Charter Seat Licenses or CSLs) in order to purchase Seahawks season tickets.

Lumen Field

By Edward de la Fuente

Our guide to Lumen Field in Seattle includes information on events, tickets, parking, public transportation, nearby hotels and restaurants, seating and more. Read on to find out how to get the most out of your gameday experience.

Lumen Field is a beautiful football stadium in a beautiful city, serving faithful Seahawks fans and the event-goers of Seattle with all the seating, parking and amenities expected of a modern NFL stadium.

Located in the SoDo (South of Downtown) section of Seattle, Lumen Field (formerly known as CenturyLink Field) is home to a Seahawks team that has always boasted one of the NFL’s most passionate fan bases even before it was finally rewarded with a championship after the 2013 season. All of that alone is reason enough to check out pro football in the Pacific Northwest.

But if you’ve paid attention, all of that stuff is likely not the most prominent thing you’ve heard about Lumen Field. No, the thing that tends to put the stadium front and center is the noise .

The 12th Man has a way about bringing the noise, sometimes at  record-breaking levels . and if you’re planning your first trip there, you may find yourself wondering:  Does it really get that loud there?

In our experience, we can certainly support the claim that Lumen Field is one of the loudest venues in sports. But if you’re looking for a unique football-watching experience, it’s certainly worth your while to visit and see for yourself.

Even if you aren’t able to visit for a Seahawks game, you can also watch soccer matches for Seattle Sounders FC of MLS and Seattle Reign of the NWSL.

While their supporters don’t fill up Lumen Field the way the 12th Man does — the upper-level seating areas are typically covered for soccer matches — they can be just as boisterous, and in fact their fan bases is considered one of the most fervent in their respective leagues.

Getting to Lumen Field

As mentioned above, Lumen Field is located south of downtown (and south of the Pioneer Square section of town as well), right next to T-Mobile Park . It’s difficult to tell for sure, but it looks from ground level and to the naked eye as though T-Mobile is actually larger than Lumen Field because of its behemoth retractable roof, and in what other city can you say the baseball stadium looks more imposing than the football stadium?

The stadium’s location means it’s easily accessible from a number of directions, including the always heavily traveled Interstate 5 and I-90 that approaches from the east. There are parking lots scattered all around Lumen Field, including a pretty big parking structure just south of the stadium, but you can expect the usual heavy traffic if you’re driving in.

However, there is an alternative in SoundTransit , which operates the region’s Link light-rail service . The main light-rail line travels between downtown Seattle and the airport and runs right by the stadium. I took light rail straight from the airport and, despite an expected influx of passengers decked out in Seahawks gear as we got closer to the stadium, it was very hassle-free.

One thing to consider, though: When looking at a system map, you may see the “Stadium” stop and automatically assume that’s the station you need — and you would not be wrong. But that stop is closer to the ballpark than it is to Lumen Field, and you’ll likely find it super-crowded as the start of your event approaches.

An alternative is to use the International District station, which is just a quarter-mile away from Lumen Field’s north side. Depending on where you’re coming from, you might find this stop to be more convenient, not to mention slightly closer.

If you’re using the Sounder, the region’s commuter train service, or even Amtrak, your arrival is made even more convenient by the fact the King Street Station is right there, just northeast of the stadium. A walk up the staircase to the aforementioned pedestrian bridge, then a descent to the Lumen Field parking lot, and you’re there.

Parking at Lumen Field

The two closest parking options to Lumen Field are a surface lot just to the north, as well as a parking garage attached to the stadium’s south end. However, these spaces are sold to season-ticket holders first (meaning spots are rarely available for single-game purchase), and no tailgating is allowed in either lot.

The widest array of single-game parking options for Lumen Field events can be found starting several blocks to the north. Begin your search north of Jackson Street, or if you don’t mind walking a little bit, north of Yesler Way.

Most surface lots are small and have limited space, so try to park early if you’re attending a Seahawks game.

Things to do around Lumen Field

Just look around — there’s plenty to do nearby, and not just the usual pre-NFL game tailgate scene that fills the Lumen Field parking lots.

The alleyways around the district — at least those that have heavy pedestrian traffic — are usually dotted with food trucks and street vendors selling snacks, beverages and souvenirs. It makes for a pretty lively atmosphere that you can experience just by walking to the game.

If you’re looking for something more traditional, sports bars and brewpubs proliferate on First Avenue South, which runs along the west side of the stadium, and in the blocks just north near Pioneer Square.

One unique pregame activity worth trying: Head to T-Mobile Park across the street. The Mariners open the party patio area behind the left-field bullpens for Seahawks games, allowing fans access to food and drink, live music and more. Admission for the party is $1 a person.

Or, if you’ve taken light rail to the International District station, you can find all sorts of restaurants within walking distance of the stadium — some of them Asian, owing to the district, and some not.

If you’re attending a Sounders match at Lumen Field, join the club’s faithful (known as the Emerald City Supporters) on their pregame “ March to the Match ,” which begins at nearby Occidental Park about 90 minutes before kickoff.

Watching a game at Lumen Field

Definitely give Lumen Field this: It is one of the most unique-looking stadiums in the NFL. It’s a horseshoe-shaped venue with an open end that allows people inside to view the downtown skyline to the north.

If you’re watching an event at Lumen Field, there’s another reason to look at that open end, though: The Hawks Nest, the triangle-shaped seating section that’s topped by a vertical videoboard. You just don’t see features like that in many stadiums, and it’s one of those things that you immediately identify with Seattle.

Meanwhile, Lumen Field’s seating areas along each sideline are covered by a distinctive arched overhang that covers most of the upper deck from the rain (though not us, since our seats were in the corner and just out from under the overhang). It’s this feature that helps amplify the crowd noise for Lumen Field events.

Ah yes, the noise. It’s understandable to be skeptical about the claims of “world’s loudest stadium” and such. But there really is no questioning the passion of the fan base that’s known collectively as the 12th Man.

And the Seahawks go to great lengths to make sure the fans know they’re appreciated — banners and flags with the number 12 on them are everywhere (12 is actually retired by the team in tribute to the fans), and an eventful pregame ritual involves the raising of a 12th Man flag at the stadium’s southern end by a person of prominence.

Before the game, though, you can get your throat ready for some screaming by checking out all the stadium has to offer. The main concourse on the stadium’s west side has plenty of cool displays — including a giant Super Bowl XLVIII display and a mural containing the helmet of every high school football team in the state of Washington.

Food and drink at Lumen Field

If you don’t mind walking around, take the time to explore the varied food options at Lumen Field, which do a good job of representing local cuisine.

Local seafood favorite Ivar’s serves its fish and chips and clam chowder here, while Taiwanese star Din Tai Fung offers its pork buns and wontons, as well as boba tea drinks. The Best of Pioneer Square and Chinatown International District stand dishes up banh mi sandwiches and kimchi dogs.

There are also multiple beer halls and taverns for fans to try the best of Puget Sound beer. Elysian Brewing, which got its start in Seattle before being sold to Anheuser-Busch, has its own bar space on the 300 level.

By the Numbers: Seattle Seahawks vs. Miami Dolphins

  • Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks play host to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday looking to improve to 3-0 for the first time since 2020. With these two teams being in separate conferences, their meetups are not frequent. What numbers and stats are relevant in this matchup?

The wild part of this matchup is that these two teams have actually met in the playoffs three different times. Of course, they all came when Seattle resided in the AFC West, with the Dolphins hailing from the AFC East. They met in back-to-back postseasons in 1983 and 1984. In 1983, the Seahawks came into the Orange Bowl in the Divisional Round and upset the Dolphins on the road. Seattle's defense caused five turnovers for Dan Marino and company, advancing to the AFC title game.

A year later, Dan Marino got his revenge. Miami thrashed Seattle 31-10 in the Divisional Round. Their last meeting in the playoffs came in the Wild Card round of the 1999 season. An aging Dan Marino against Jon Kitna was the story. J.J. Johnson rushed for a Dolphins touchdown late in the fourth quarter to seal the 20-17 win for Miami in the Kingdome.

It has been eight years since these two teams met in Seattle. In 2016, it was a defensive slugfest. Seattle led 6-3 at the half. Miami took a 10-6 lead late in the fourth quarter. Russell Wilson connected with Doug Baldwin three times on the final drive, including a touchdown with 35 seconds left. Seattle's defense held firm and the Seahawks won a struggle of a game, 12-10.

The Dolphins' rank in red zone defense. Teams are four for five in turning red zone trips into touchdowns thus far this season. The Seahawks must take advantage of when they are in the red zone. With offensive guru Mike McDaniel on the other sideline, Seattle cannot afford to sputter out in the red zone. The Seahawks have a bevvy of weapons like Noah Fant, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba to threaten Miami inside the opposing 20-yard line.

That is the catches and receiving yards DK Metcalf had the last time these teams met up. In fact, that is the highest yards per catch average (minimum three catches) of any game in Metcalf's career. Facing Jalen Ramsey this time , he will be hard-pressed to duplicate that efficiency. However, Metcalf and the Seahawks have had success against Ramsey before.

Skylar Thompson's career passer rating in 119 total pass attempts. For reference, that would rank 29th in the NFL this season. Mike Macdonald and the Seahawks defense need to see to it that Thompson never gets comfortable. To this point, Thompson has very little experience and even less success as a starting quarterback in the NFL. Seattle's defense should be able to wreak havoc if they stay disciplined.

The turnover margin for Miami this season. They turned the ball over on offense three times in their blowout loss to the Bills two Thursday nights ago. The Seahawks' defense needs to come up with at least one turnover to feel like they can control this game. Devon Witherspoon has been so close to getting an interception this season. He is foaming at the mouth to get one against a backup quarterback.

Miles, as the crow flies, between Miami and Seattle. The Dolphins are traveling about as far as any NFL team can while staying inside the country. The fans at Lumen Field will be loud and should affect the travel-weary Dolphins. Seattle needs any advantage it can get to slow down the elite speed Miami boasts.

Breaking news, how much are tickets for ny giants-cowboys tnf game at metlife stadium.

We’re only three weeks into the 2024 NFL season and games already have monumental importance.

Case in point, the 1-2 New York Giants and 1-2 Dallas Cowboys are going head-to-head at East Rutherford, NJ’s MetLife Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 27 in a cutthroat battle that determines which team walks away with a comfortable 2-2 record and who’s going home 1-3.

Clearly, this is a must-win matchup.

Brian Daboll’s Giants are coming into the week three contest with their heads held high; the squad just netted their first win of the season against the Cleveland Browns behind the play of quarterback Daniel Jones (24-36, two touchdowns, 236 yards) and 21-year-old, standout rookie wideout Malik Nabers who caught both of those end zone passes from Jones, making him the youngest player in NFL history with two touchdown receptions in a game.

As for the Cowboys, they’re coming off a bruising 44-19 loss to the Saints; interestingly, the only team they’ve beaten this season thus far was also the Browns.
