travel song in shrek

You know, this may turn Into the longest day of my entire life Oh, I got the perfect remedy for that Donkey, please, I am begging you Sing a song, yes, a travel song When you gotta go somewhere 'Cause the fun is getting there Yeah, oh, what the heck? I must confess I love a road trip Sing a song, hit the trail Forget the maps, forget the guides Before ya know it You've made strides with me And I know all I need all along Is a path and a pal and a song So I'm singin' and I'm pallin' with you See? It makes the time go by faster Why me? Why me? This is nice Tell me what was my crime? We are strolling He's as chatty as a parrot More annoying than a mime Hey, look, a cat who's wearing boots That's crazy Why me? Why me? A simple answer would be fine This is good cardio Won't someone please send me a sign? Hey, look, a sign Yunita Pal Avenue straight ahead What did I do to deserve this? Honestly This ass 'o mine is asinine Why me? Oh man, what could be better than this? Why me? Why me? (Sing a song, hit the road) A simple answer would be fine (It's the way to get around) Won't somebody please send me a sign? (Before ya know it you've gained ground with me) What did I do (And I know all I need all along) To deserve this? Honestly (Is a path and a pal and a song) This ass 'o mine (So, I'm singin' and I'm pallin') Is asinine (With you) That'll do, Donkey That'll do

Tom Cruise's Underrated Sci-Fi Movie That Holds 91% On RT Needs A Sequel 10 Years Later

The incredible 3-hour western epic that united john wayne, james stewart & henry fonda, a quiet place: day one rotten tomatoes audience score breaks franchise record.

Shrek not only kicked off a beloved animated franchise, but it also featured a memorable soundtrack packed with amazing songs. Critically acclaimed upon release, the Oscar Award-winning film cleverly re-imagined fairy tales and gave them a distinctly millennial twist. Blending elements of modern popular culture with classic fantasy stories, Shrek has a timeless feel while also being firmly rooted in its own era. The soundtrack was a large part of the film's success, thanks to a selection of tunes ranging from oldies to modern rock hits. Shrek may be a product of its time, but its soundtrack remains popular even decades later.

Initially released as Shrek: Music from the Original Motion Picture , the first soundtrack album featured almost all the hits from the movie and also included a notable cut from the original score. By 2003, the RIAA had certified the album two times platinum, and it was nominated for the Best Compilation Grammy. Certain discrepancies appeared on the album, though, as some tracks from the movie were not legally allowed to appear on the record, so they were covered by different artists. Despite that, the music from Shrek became inextricably linked to the films, and certain songs are forever part of the character's legacy.

Here is every song on the Shrek soundtrack, in order:

  • "Stay Home" by self
  • "I'm a Believer" by Smash Mouth
  • "Like Wow!" by Leslie Carter
  • "It Is You (I Have Loved)" by Dana Glover
  • "Best Years of Our Lives (Micks Mix)" by Baha Men
  • "Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (performed by Halfcocked on the Shrek soundtrack album)
  • "My Beloved Monster" by Eels
  • "You Belong to Me" by Jason Wade
  • "All Star" by Smash Mouth
  • "Hallelujah" by John Cale (performed by Rufus Wainwright on the Shrek soundtrack album)
  • "I'm on My Way" by The Proclaimers
  • "I'm a Believer (Reprise)" by Eddie Murphy
  • "True Love's First Kiss" by Harry Gregson-Williams & John Powell

When Exactly Every Song Plays In Shrek

"All Star" by Smash Mouth: Shrek starts out with a bang. Smash Mouth's massive hit plays during the opening scene of the movie and underscores the ogre's morning bathing routine while the opening credits roll. The song plays almost in its entirety, though it is eventually cut off by the arrival of angry villagers at Shrek's cottage.

"Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts: This rousing rock anthem plays during the scene in Duloc when Shrek and Donkey first encounter Lord Farquaad as they team up to fight a host of his knights in a makeshift wrestling ring. Though Joan Jett's version appears in the movie , a cover by the band Halfcocked took its spot on Shrek 's soundtrack album because of licensing issues.

"I'm On My Way" by The Proclaimers: This jangling and playful tune from The Proclaimers plays under the montage of events that Shrek and Donkey get into as they travel across the land in search of Fiona. The song continues to play until the duo arrives at the outskirts of the castle that the princess is trapped in.

"My Beloved Monster" by Eels: This appropriately named song plays under the montage of scenes when Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona travel across the land. It continues as Shrek and Fiona begin to flirt by blowing up frogs and snakes and making them into balloons for one another.

"You Belong to Me" by Jason Wade: Every Shrek movie follows the same formula as the original and features great music, but this Jason Wade tune is one of the series' best needle drops. It plays under the scene in which Shrek and Fiona share a romantic dinner before they arrive back in Duloc, and it continues over the moment when Shrek asks her to come and visit him sometime in his swamp.

"Hallelujah" by John Cale: The John Cale cover of this Leonard Cohen classic plays in the movie, and the song underscores the montage of Shrek and Fiona thinking about one another after they're separated. It plays as Fiona is fitted for her wedding dress and as Shrek returns to his swamp. The Shrek soundtrack album contains a version of the song by Rufus Wainwright because of licensing issues.

"True Love's First Kiss" by Harry Gregson-Williams & John Powell: The only piece of the orchestral score included on the Shrek soundtrack album is a doozy. The sweeping song plays under the sequence in which Fiona and Shrek kiss for the first time and Fiona's true form is revealed in the light of their love.

"I'm a Believer" by Smash Mouth: Smash Mouth contributed two of the best songs in the Shrek franchise , both in the original movie. The second of these songs is their cover of this classic Neil Diamond song that was most famously covered by The Monkees. The upbeat tune plays as Shrek and Fiona kiss at their wedding in the swamp, it continues as the wedding party celebrates and Donkey flirts with the Dragon.

"I'm a Believer (Reprise)" by Eddie Murphy: Rolling right in from the previous song, the reprise of "I'm a Believer" is sung by Donkey after Shrek and Fiona ride off together. It continues as various characters from the movie celebrate Shrek and Fiona's marriage and then plays over the " The End " title card and rolls right up into the credits.

"Stay Home" by Self: In contrast to the upbeat music of the closing scene, this somewhat downbeat tune plays as the first song over the movie's end credits.

"Best Years of Our Lives (Micks Mix)" by Baha Men: The one-hit-wonder band Baha Men lent one of their tunes as the second song that plays during Shrek 's end credits sequence.

"Like Wow!" by Leslie Carter: Injecting the Shrek soundtrack with a bit of early-2000s pop, Leslie Carter's Brittney Spears-inspired song plays as the third song over the end credits.

"It Is You (I Have Loved)" by Dana Glover: This song is heard as the fourth and final tune that plays underneath Shrek 's end credits. It was composed specifically for the movie and features Dana Glover's haunting vocals overtop the familiar tones of the Shrek score music.

Where To Listen To The Shrek Soundtrack

Animated films were in an unusual state at the beginning of the 21st century. Although previous generations had been loyal to the classical 2D animation style, Pixar had broken through with their 1995 hit Toy Story , proving that 3D was just as exciting as a format. There was a brief moment in which it appeared that Pixar would be the only studio capable of pushing the medium forward, but Shrek ended up ushering in a new wave of animated films from Dreamworks . While Pixar’s films would often address mature themes and pay homage to classical cinema, the Shrek franchise embraced modern popular culture with frequent references to recent films, music, and celebrities. It seemed like an absurd concept, but it turned into one of the most profitable franchises ever.

Shrek turned the fantasy genre on its head and highlighted the characters who would either be supporting characters or villains in traditional fairy tale films. Set in the distant fantasy realm of Far Far Away, the film centers on an Ogre named Shrek ( Mike Myers ) as he is joined by Donkey ( Eddie Murphy ) in a quest to save Princess Fiona ( Cameron Diaz ) from a fire-breathing dragon. The character of Puss in Boots ( Antonio Banderas ) became so popular that he received a spinoff franchise. In addition to several animated short films, a stage musical, and multiple theme park attractions, the Shrek series is set to receive a highly anticipated fifth installment. Each movie is funny, but some Shrek entries are far more enjoyable and rewatchable .

6 ‘Shrek Forever After’ (2010)

Directed by mike mitchell.

Shrek Forever After marked the moment in which the franchise ran out of its creative fuel. Although it had already experienced a slight dip in quality, the fourth film in the series decided to negate the character progression that Shrek had experienced as a father and husband. After deciding that he wants to return to the “freedom” he had before getting married to Fiona, Shrek makes a deal to travel back in time to experience an alternate reality. This choice ends up going poorly when Shrek discovers he gambled away everything that he cares about most.

The idea of Shrek taking the people he loves for granted is compelling, but Shrek Forever After spends too much time reiterating the plot points of the first film. It’s ultimately just too dark for a family-friendly franchise that has a good deal of bathroom humor, as even Shrek’s relationship with Donkey isn’t as interesting as it once was. Many of the familiar characters are absent, and even the quality of animation feels lacking when compared to the more elaborate designs of its predecessors. While it’s worth checking out for those wanting to experience the entire series, Shrek Forever After isn’t really worth watching more than once .

5 ‘Shrek the Third’ (2007)

Directed by chris miller and raman hui.

Although it lacks the emotional qualities of its predecessors, Shrek The Third is so weird that it’s still worth checking out as a guilty pleasure. The third film plays upon Shrek’s anxieties about parenthood, as the death of Fiona’s father, King Harold ( John Cleese ), forces him to search for a new ruler for Far Far Away. Shrek seeks the young Arthur Pendragon ( Justin Timberlake ), a bullied teenager whose only friend is the quirky magician Merlin ( Eric Idle ). Having Shrek serve as a mentor to a younger character was an interesting way to progress the series and address themes of fatherhood as Shrek is coping with Fiona’s pregnancy. Although there are some genuinely tender moments between Shrek and Arthur, there are enough goofy shenanigans with Puss and Donkey that Shrek The Third never risks being too saccharine.

Shrek The Third fleshes out some of the franchise’s supporting characters who were only given limited roles in the previous entries. A storyline involving Fiona teaming up with the other Princesses trapped in the castle allows the series to poke fun at some of the recurring cliches in fairy tale stories. Additionally, the surprisingly sinister Prince Charming ( Rupert Everett ), who was spurned by his mother’s death, becomes one of the franchise’s most ruthless villains. Shrek The Third doesn’t have any deeper ideas beyond being serviceable family entertainment, but it's a very funny film that has aged much better than many have expected .

Shrek the Third

4 ‘puss in boots’ (2011), directed by chris miller.

Spinoff films are usually a risky gamble, as isolating an element popular in one franchise is often not a great way to kickstart a new story. While the Minions in the Despicable Me films and the Madagascar Penguins were fun side characters, their spinoff films failed to transition them into compelling protagonists. However, Puss in Boots successfully mapped its character’s compelling origin story .

Instead of trying to replicate the slapstick humor of Shrek , Puss in Boots embraced its nature as a swashbuckling adventure film, complete with some truly great sword fighting. Although he comes across as a fearless hero in the Shrek films, Puss is far more vulnerable in Puss in Boots , as it reveals that he was blamed for a crime he did not commit. There’s not as much tension because viewers already know that Puss will survive, but Puss in Boots was a fun new direction for the Shrek franchise that is certainly more rewatchable than most animated spinoffs .

Puss in Boots

3 ‘shrek’ (2001), directed by andrew adamson and vicky jenson.

Shrek is one of the most influential films of the 21st century , opening the door for a very different style of animation. Shrek is essentially the story of an outsider who becomes a reluctant hero, and the character's underdog quality makes the series endlessly compelling. Myers has always been a comedic legend, but he conveys a surprising amount of pathos with his vocal performance in the first film.

It’s easy to forget that Shrek was a critically acclaimed hit, winning the first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and receiving a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. The many memorable lines and amusing cutaway gags have certainly endeared it to a generation of viewers who grew up with the series. Some of its animation may feel a bit dated, but the delightfully subversive and daring Shrek holds up remarkably well as an inventive take on a familiar story .

2 ‘Shrek 2’ (2004)

Directed by andrew adamson, kelly asbury, and conrad vernon.

Shrek 2 does what all great sequels do best : it complicates the characters and raises the stakes. The first film revealed that Shrek and Fiona were destined to have a happy ending, but Shrek 2 examined what their life would actually look like once the royal family got involved. Shrek is once again an underdog in a world that wants to reject him and is forced to make a sacrifice to prove his love to Fiona. It’s surprising that a film that is so packed with action makes room for such serious themes about isolation.

Shrek 2 is easily the funniest film in the series , thanks in great deal to the use of iconic needle drops like “Holding Out For A Hero” and “Accidentally In Love.” Although there are fun references to everything from The Lord of the Rings to From Here To Eternity , Shrek 2 is at its best when it plays off the dynamic between Shrek, Donkey, and Puss as they bicker throughout their adventure. Twenty years later, Shrek 2 is still one of the most rewatchable animated sequels of all time.

1 ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ (2022)

Directed by joel crawford.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish raised its franchise's quality of animation and improved upon its predecessor in every way. In an adventure that was set after the Shrek films, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish picks up with the feline swashbuckler attempting to elude the Big Bad Wolf, a terrifying villain that represents death . Puss is forced to reckon with his past and once again takes part in an epic quest where the fate of the realm lies in his paws.

Feeling closer in tone to the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse series than any of Dreamworks’ previous films, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish changed the animation style of the franchise. There are tinges of comedy, particularly thanks to a scene-stealing appearance by John Mulaney , but the tone is far more serious. On a visceral level, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a great piece of artwork with frames that are beautifully packed with detail. Hopefully, it will not be the last Shrek spinoff film, but it’s hard to imagine the series ever releasing a film that is more rewatchable than Puss in Boots: The Last Wish .

Kylie Kelce is still reveling in the “Afterglow” of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour shows in London.

The college athlete admitted on her Instagram Monday that she “had to fangirl” over meeting sports reporters Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson while hanging out together in the VIP section of Wembley Stadium.

“Pardon the delay because we were very busy last week. But I have to circle back to meeting the absolute queens @CharissaJThompson and @ErinAndrews,” Kelce, 32, wrote in her post.

“I had to fangirl over them both for not only being badass women in sports. But also having meaningful and empowering conversation on @CalmDownPodcast.”

Kelce wrote the message over a photo of her posing with the two women and their husbands as well as her brother-in-law and Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce.

Kylie and her husband, Jason Kelce, attended two of the “Shake It Off” singer’s concerts the weekend of June 21 following a visit to the Cannes Lions festival in the French Riviera.

While at Wembley, Jason, 36, proved to be a dedicated Swiftie as he was seen in fan videos trading tons of friendship bracelets with fellow fans.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 34, and retired Philadelphia Eagles center also met Prince William , Princess Charlotte and Prince George while at Swift’s concert.

“Prince William was fantastic, but the highlight was Princess Charlotte,” Jason told listeners of his and Travis’ “New Heights” podcast. “She was so f–king adorable.

“Maybe because I have three girls now, [but] she had a fire to her,” Jason continued. “She was asking questions.”

Swift, 34, is set to return to Wembley Stadium on Aug. 15 for five additional shows.
