Trek 3700 is a mountain bike sold between 2004 and 2015. It gained huge popularity over the years. The question is: Is it a good bike?

KEY TAKEAWAY

One of the highlights of the Trek 3700 is its suspended front fork with a 100mm travel that improves riding comfort by absorbing bumps and vibrations. Additionally, the aluminum frame is sturdy yet lightweight. It also has a relaxed geometry for a comfortable, upright riding position, which is ideal for short trips or commuting.

Let’s now scrutinize this bike more in-depth.

Is Trek 3700 a Good Bike?

Trek 3700 was a popular bike thanks to its excellent price-value ratio. Many people decided between the 3700 and Trek 4300 , which had better specs.

They tended to lean toward the 4300 because its specifications were better for a relatively small price increase (~$90).

Trek 3700’s MSRP increased from around $280 to around $410 in 2010. ( Source ) It is not officially sold anymore, so you must buy it second hand.

The 3700 was available in multiple sizes ranging from smaller ones for kids to larger ones suitable for adults (13, 16, 18, 19.5, 21, 22.5″…).

It was available in multiple colors and with rim or disc brakes , depending on the model year.

Pros and Cons of Trek 3700

Here, I summarized the pros and cons of Trek 3700.

Pros of Trek 3700

  • Quality and sturdy aluminum frame
  • Suspended front fork
  • Available for men and women
  • Comfortable geometry, allowing upright riding position

Cons of Trek 3700

  • 26-inch wheels
  • 3X drivetrain (2X and 1X became more popular thanks to their simplicity)
  • Rigid front fork

To fully understand the pros and cons, I recommend reading the following section, where I compare its features with those of today’s mountain bikes.

Main Features of Trek 3700

Below, I evaluate the main features of the Trek 3700.

Aluminum Frame

All Trek 3700 bikes are based on Alpha aluminum frames.

Aluminum is relatively lightweight and affordable yet durable. That’s why it’s so popular as a bike frame material .

Detail on the Trek 3700 frame size.

However, the overall weight of the Trek 3700 is around 14.5 kg (32 lbs), which is pretty high.

This is mainly because the suspended front fork adds a lot of weight. Remember, the Trek 3700 disc brake version is heavier than the rim brake version.

But you don’t have to fear putting this bike under much stress. It will handle everything you throw at it because of its durability.

26-Inch Wheels

Like most old-school mountain bikes, the Trek 3700 came with 26-inch wheels.

Detail on the Trek 3700 rear 26″ wheel.

Those are more agile (meaning they accelerate faster) but less stable and comfortable than the 27.5 or 29-inch wheels used today.

If you can, I recommend trying bikes with different wheel sizes, so you experience the difference.

Trek 3700 was equipped with a combination of Shimano, SRAM, Bontrager, and other 3rd party components.

Detail on the Trek 3700 saddle and seatpost.

Considering today’s standards, its handlebar was narrow, and the saddle was pretty wide.

Depending on the model, most Trek 3700 had a 3×7spd drivetrain, offering 21 gears. Some, however, had a 3×8spd gearing.

Today’s mountain bikes usually come with 2X or 1X drivetrains. This is because of their simplicity, lower weight, and less chance of cross-chaining.

On the other hand, the Trek 3700 was similar to today’s hybrid bikes because of its rigid fork and geometry. Those still use 2X or 3X drivetrains, offering a wide gear range for various terrains.

Suspension Fork

One of the main features of the Trek 3700 is the coil suspension front fork. It has 100mm travel that absorbs bumps and vibrations, making the ride more comfortable.

Its drawback is that it increases the overall weight of the bike. Models like the Trek 800 are lighter because their front fork is rigid.

Trek 3700 was sold with rim and mechanical disc brakes. The rim brakes are lighter but less effective than disc brakes in rougher conditions.

Deatil on the Trek 3700 front disc brake.

Disc brakes are known for their better effectiveness, for example, in the rain. So, if you are a heavier rider, prefer models with disc brakes.

Trek 3700 Specifications

Below, I summarize the most important technical specifications of Trek 3700. Remember, they differ based on the year:

  • Frame material: Aluminum
  • Weight: ±14.5 kg (32 lbs) depending on frame size, brakes, and year made
  • Wheel size: 26-inch
  • Brakes: Rim or disc
  • Groupset: Shimano Altus
  • Gears: 3×7spd or 3×8spd
  • Colors: Differ based on the year

Although the Trek 3700 has been discontinued for several years, it still has a place among beginners and undemanding riders.

It was a popular mountain bike because of its quality aluminum frame, front suspension, and wide enough gear range.

You can buy it for around $150 in mint condition from people who tried it but have never ridden it frequently. Check out Craigslist or eBay.

If you want to spend more on an up-to-date mountain bike from Trek, check out their website.

Trek 3700 FAQ

Trek 3700 is still worth it today if you are looking for a cheap mountain bike. It was already discontinued, so you can only buy it second-hand. Aim for a price of around $150 for mint condition.

Trek 3700 was made between 2004 and 2015.

Trek 3700 weighs ±14.5 kg (32 lbs). Its weight differs based on its size and year made. Remember, the rim brake version is lighter than the disc brake version.

Trek 3700’s weight limit is 300 lbs (136 kg).

Trek 3700 Disc review

Beginner-friendly all-rounder

trek 3700 testbericht

Trek claim that their entry-level 3-series models are the world’s best-selling mountain bikes. Given that the 3700 Disc packs in both the obligatory 100mm-travel (3.9in) suspension fork and mechanical disc brakes for well under £400, it’s not hard to see why the specification is appealing to budget-conscious buyers. It's well built and well enough spec'ed to cope with some hard trail use but its short geometry holds it back.

Ride & handling: Solid build and newbie-friendly ride position make for a reassuring ride

The 3700 turns out to be a bike of surprising contradictions. Clearly built with the nervous newcomer in mind, the combination of a short rider cockpit with long head tube, extra headset washers and a high rise stem creates the kind of sit-up-and-look-at-the-view ride position that’ll make the Trek an easy sale on the bike shop floor. And if you are the kind of rider who’s content with pootling along looking at the view, it’s a setup that works well.

There’s a but, and it’s this – as soon as things get steeper, faster, lumpier, more interesting and more fun, the Trek’s ride position compromises what you can do with it. Point it up a steep climb and the high handlebar makes it hard to stop the front end wandering. Shove it through some fast, flowing singletrack and, you guessed it, the high handlebar compromises front end grip.

Throw it down a bumpy, rocky trail and – you must be getting the picture by now – the rearward weight distribution prevents the fork from working effectively. It takes an experienced rider to weight up the front enough to extract anything more than about half the available fork travel. We’d happily take a slightly shorter fork. It’d suit the bike’s intended purpose better – and probably save a bit of weight too.

The frustrating thing about all this is that there’s nothing wrong with the Trek’s handling, per se. It just doesn’t like being rushed. Given that there’s 100mm of actually fairly effective suspension travel up front and a pair of brakes that’ll haul it all to a stop pretty quickly, it all adds up to a bike of two halves. And, frankly, it doesn’t quite convince us.

If you’re looking for a well-built, well-specced towpath cruiser that won’t flinch if you venture a bit further afield, the 3700 Disc may be worth a look. But if your off-road adventures are likely to be a little more rugged, you need something with a geometry better suited to life in the rough.

Frame: Short, upright geometry compromises off-road handling

Trek label the aluminium tubes that make up the 3700’s chassis ‘Alpha Silver’. The exact make-up of this proprietary alloy is unclear but it’s extruded into plain gauge tubes and then shaped appropriately for the chassis in question.

The 3700’s cross-ovalised down tube provides a torsionally rigid backbone, arcing gracefully where it meets the externally butted head tube to avoid the need for extra strengthening gussetry. At the rear there’s a wishbone seatstay arrangement – something Trek have been using for a while, though the difference over regular stays is more aesthetic than functional.

The finish is a match for the company’s higher end frames but there’s no doubt that the basic plumbing contributes to the bike’s far from svelte all-up weight – 14.5kg (32lb), without pedals. Thoughtful touches include a full set of rear rack and mudguard mounts for an easy conversion to commuting or light touring duties.

Plugged into the front is Suntour’s 100mm-travel (3.9in), coil-sprung XCN fork. It boasts twin preload adjusters to help heavier or more aggressive riders tweak its set-up to suit. It is, without question, among the better forks available for this sort of money, although 100mm travel on a bike aimed at newer riders is arguably overkill. Still, it’s there if you need it.

Equipment: Decent fork and discs at this price is a good deal

You can choose to have your 3700 with rim rather than disc brakes for £25 less, if you like. It would help bring the weight down a tad, but we suspect that most riders will stump up the extra for the all-weather appeal of Tektro mechanical discs. A basic-but-functional Shimano seven-speed transmission combines with the easy rolling of Bontrager’s LT3 tyres to provide motive force.

Bontrager’s logo also adorns the bulk of the finishing kit. There’s evidence of the bean counters at work in areas such as the cheap and heavy bars, but for the most part it’s durable-looking kit that should stand up to some reasonably hard use. We like small touches like the labyrinth-sealed hubs, which should withstand wet and muddy use without flinching. Most bikes at this price make do with basic dust seals.

Trek 3700 Mountain Bike At A Glance

trek 3700 testbericht

Trek 3700 is a hardtail mountain bike with a lightweight and sturdy Alpha aluminum frame, which makes it easy to handle. With an 8-speed Shimano drivetrain and powerful disc brakes, this bike offers great versatility on all types of terrain.

The front suspension provides excellent balance and stability on rougher roads or trails, ensuring smooth rides. Plus, the Bontrager LT3, 26×2.0″ tires are of excellent quality, making it a reliable choice. If you ever need to replace them, you can do so with ease.

3700 Trek is the perfect combination of affordability and quality, making it a great choice for beginner riders looking to hit the trails.

  • Very versatile bike
  • Lightweight and durable frame
  • Easy to upgrade
  • Quality components
  • Seat is stiff and fork is rigid
  • Not great for very rough trails

Unfortunately, this bike has been discontinued, but Trek has impressive newer models with better designs which are excellent alternatives to the 3700 Trek mountain bike.

We recommend Trek Marlin 5 and Trek Fuel EX 5 as great alternatives, you can scroll down to see our brief review of these bikes.

Trek 3700 Mountain Bike Review: Features and Specifications

Frame and fork.

The frame and fork of the Trek 3700 Mountain Bike strike an excellent balance between durability, comfort, and versatility, making it a great choice for both beginner and intermediate riders who want an affordable and reliable mountain bike.

The Trek 3700 Mountain Bike is made of Alpha Silver Aluminum, which is known for its lightweight and durability. The semi-integrated head tube on the frame adds to its sleek design, while the rack and fender mounts make it a versatile option for both commuting and off-road adventures.

trek 3700 testbericht

The bike’s rigid fork and geometry make it similar to today’s hybrid bikes, providing a comfortable and stable ride. As a hardtail mountain, Trek 31700 has only a front suspension. And the coil suspension front fork with 100mm travel does a good job of absorbing bumps and vibrations, which improves the bike’s comfort level.

While the front fork’s coil suspension design adds weight to the bike, it’s a small price to pay for a smoother ride. The inner layer of metal within the coil spring absorbs bumps and shocks, while the outer layer of rubber resists movement and compression, keeping you in control and enjoying a comfortable ride.

Gears and Brakes

The Trek 3700 Mountain Bike’s gears and brakes are built for quality and performance. With Shimano C051 shifters, Shimano Altus M310 8-speed front derailleur, and Shimano Altus M280 rear derailleur, you’ll have a reliable and smooth gear system to take on any terrain.

The 2015 Trek 3700 Disc comes with Tektro M290 hydraulic disc brakes, which provide incredible stopping power, giving you the confidence to take on steep hills and rough trails. With these brakes, you can stop quickly and precisely, even in wet or muddy conditions.

trek 3700 testbericht

The Bontrager LT3 tires and Shimano 8-speed gearing provide excellent grip and versatility on flat terrain, allowing you to ride comfortably and efficiently. Most Trek 3700 models have a 21-gear, 3×7-speed drivetrain, depending on the model. Some had a 3×8 speed gearing, though.

The Trek 3700 Mountain Bike’s rim and disc brakes offer great stopping power, with the disc brakes being the more effective option in rougher conditions. They are lightweight, reliable, and powerful, providing maximum stopping power in all conditions and terrain.

This Trek bike also features a Shimano M131 chainguard to protect the chains, ensuring your safety when riding on trails and providing extra protection against debris and obstacles.

Trek 3700 Mountain Bike’s gears and brakes, paired with its high-quality components, make it an excellent choice for riders looking for a reliable and versatile mountain bike. Whether you’re hitting the trails or commuting to work, this bike is built to handle whatever you throw at it.

Wheels and Tires

The Trek 3700 Mountain Bike’s wheels and tires are designed to handle a variety of terrains, from paved roads to rough trails.

The 26-inch wheels are more agile and accelerate faster than larger wheels, making them great for riders who value speed and maneuverability. But not so great for rolling over bumps on rough trails.

trek 3700 testbericht

The Bontrager LT3 tires are 26 x 2.00 inches in size and are designed for both path and trail use. They’re sturdy and puncture-resistant, so you don’t have to worry about puncture or damage to your tires when exploring new trails.

These tires provide excellent grip and stability on challenging terrain, giving you the confidence to tackle even the toughest trails. What’s more, these tires are easy-rolling on city streets and paved roads, so you can ride smoothly and efficiently.

The Trek 3700 Mountain Bike’s Bontrager LT3 tires give you the performance and reliability you need to ride with confidence whether you’re riding to work or hitting the trails.

Saddle and Handlebars

The Bontrager Approved stem is also an excellent addition to the Trek 3700. It’s made from lightweight and strong 6061-T6 aluminum alloy, making it both durable and long-lasting.

As you’d have guessed, the saddle is not very comfortable, it’s a bit too stiff, so you’d need an upgrade there. But the 31.6mm seatpost offers plenty of room to adjust the bike to your size and grow with it over time, which is great.

trek 3700 testbericht

The handlebars are quite impressive, the bar’s robust design can withstand some abuse while being used on the trail. Its handlebar’s 25.4mm diameter and 30mm rise give it plenty of space for a comfortable grip when riding.

This stem has a 25.4mm clamp diameter and a 25-degree rise, providing a comfortable riding position while also keeping you in control of your bike. The stem’s four-bolt faceplate design also ensures a secure fit, so you can focus on the trail instead of worrying about your handlebars coming loose.

Actually, the combination of the Bontrager Riser handlebar and the Bontrager Approved stem on the Trek 3700 makes for a comfortable and stable ride, no matter where you choose to take it.

Size and weight

The Trek 3700 is a versatile bike that comes in multiple sizes to fit a variety of riders.

It comes in a wide range of frame sizes, so you can find a good fit for almost anyone, whether you’re a petite rider looking for a 13″ frame or a bigger cyclist with wider shoulders looking for a 22.5″ frame.

It’s also important to note that the weight of the bike is around 32lbs (14.5 kg), which is pretty high due to the suspended front fork adding weight.

So, this might not be the ideal choice for you if you’re looking for a lightweight bike. But the bike is sturdy enough to support riders that weigh up to 300 lbs, so you don’t have to worry about your weight breaking the bike.

Ride quality and performance

Trek 3700 is a mountain bike that’ll give you comfortable trail rides and excellent performance for an affordable price. It’s a great bike for those who want a smooth ride and good performance without breaking the bank.

The suspension system helps to absorb shock and provides tame rides on both smooth and rough terrain. The bike also has excellent handling and stability, making it easy to maneuver and control. It rides smoothly, and brakes efficiently.

trek 3700 testbericht

If you’re a beginner or intermediate rider, the Trek 3700 is an excellent choice. It has a sturdy frame that can handle a lot of stress and weight, so you don’t have to worry about breaking it. Plus, it’s easy to ride and steer, so you can focus on enjoying the ride instead of struggling to stay upright.

The bike’s components are of high quality and durable, so you don’t have to worry about them wearing out quickly. The brakes are responsive, and the gears shift smoothly and easily. And while the bike may be a bit heavy, it doesn’t affect the ride quality or performance.

However, this is not the best bike for very technical trails, as you may need more range of gears for some climbs and descents. It’s best suited for testing your limits on beginner-friendly mountain trails, and fine-tuning your mountain biking skills.

Best 3700 Trek Mountain Bike Alternatives

Since Trek 3700 mountain bikes are off the shelf, you won’t find brand-new ones. But there are more advanced Trek trail bikes with even better build quality and performance.

Trek is a brand known for the quality bikes they put out, these bikes are often priced high though, not like the cheaper options from Schwinn and Mongoose, but you certainly get what you pay for.

We consider the Trek Marlin 5 and Trek fuel EX 5 to be excellent alternatives to the Trek 3700 mountain bike.

Trek Marlin 5

trek 3700 testbericht

Trek Marlin 5 is a trail mountain bike that’s built to gracefully handle daily adventures on rough terrains. It has a lightweight aluminum frame with a 2×8 drivetrain for smooth riding and shifting and powerful hydraulic disc brakes which provide fast and precise stopping.

While the Marlin 5 is made for trail riding, it’s also versatile and can double as a commuter bike. This bike has a stunning frame with internal routing for the brake and shift cables, which can extend the lifespan of your wires by shielding them from the environment.

It’s the perfect bike for new trail riders and comes in seven frame sizes to fit riders of all heights. Marlin 5 is elegant and comfortable, with a ton of features that are typically reserved for more pricey bikes.

Trek Fuel EX 5

trek 3700 testbericht

Fuel EX 5 is a very efficient full-suspension trail bike that’s ready to handle the most rugged mountain terrains. It’s built for speed, with a sturdy chassis and supportive front and rear suspension to give you loads of support on both climbs and descents.

The Trek Fuel EX 5 stands out as a high-value, high-performance mountain bike with remarkable adaptability. It’s fitted with a Shimano 1×12 drivetrain, a dropper post for getting low on descents, and hydraulic disc brakes.

As a heavy trail-rider, this bike most likely checks all the boxes on your wishlist for a new bike. It’s a sure-footed bike that delivers better stability and control. And more importantly, it’s a fun bike to ride.

Is 3700 Trek Mountain Bike a good buy?

Trek 3700 mountain bike is a good buy and offers great value for money. It’s a reliable and flexible option for both beginner and experienced riders.

It may not have all the aesthetic features of newer mountain bikes, but it still has many good features, meaning that it’s a wise investment for anyone looking for an affordable, durable, and high-quality mountain bike.

You likely won’t find a brand-new Trek 3700, but the alternative options we included above are great choices too.

Trek 3700 Mountain Bike Review 2024 – Conquer Any Terrain

Trek 3700 Mountain Bike - the only review you need

The Trek 3700 mountain bike is a testament to the passion and expertise of its creators. As an avid biker myself, I can tell you that this model is the embodiment of what happens when craftsmanship meets a love for the open trail.

There’s something almost poetic about a day of leisurely riding with my Trek 3700. Navigating gentle hill climbs and descents, traversing trails that are relatively flat with shallow ravines or ruts, it’s as if the bike and I become one. The lightweight aluminum frame , strong and incredibly durable, responds to the trail as naturally as a bird takes to the sky.

Every ride with this one is an adventure waiting to happen. It’s not just a bike; it’s a trusted companion on every journey, a tangible symbol of the freedom and joy that biking brings.

Trek 3700

I was fortunate enough to test numerous two-wheelers over the years. Recently I got the chance to test out the Trek 3700.

This model, known for its durability and performance, has been on my radar for quite some time. From the first ride, I could tell that the Trek 3700 was going to be a game-changer for me.

  • Smooth and comfortable ride
  • Sturdy and durable construction
  • Great value for money
  • Handles varied terrains well
  • Limited color options

Design and Build

The first thing that caught my eye about the Trek 3700 was its impeccable design. Crafted with precision, the Alpha Aluminum frame is not only sturdy but also lightweight. This combination ensures durability without compromising on the ease of handling.

The sleek finish and the attention to detail in its construction make the it a visual delight. Furthermore, the frame’s design ensures optimal weight distribution, making it perfect for both uphill climbs and speedy descents.

Whether you’re navigating through city streets or challenging mountain trails, the Trek 3700’s robust build ensures that it can handle varied terrains with ease.

Performance and Ride Comfort

Riding the Trek 3700 is akin to a dream. The bike’s performance is enhanced by its front suspension, the RST 191 C7 with 63mm travel. This suspension system ensures that every bump, no matter how minor, is absorbed, offering a smooth and comfortable ride.

The gear system is another highlight. With seamless transitions between speeds, it’s perfect for both beginners finding their rhythm and seasoned cyclists looking for that burst of speed. The Shimano Acera rear derailleur further enhances this experience, ensuring precision in gear shifts.

Every ride on the Trek 3700 feels effortless, making it a joy for daily commutes or adventurous trails.

Wheel and Traction

The Trek 3700’s wheel system is a testament to its engineering excellence. Equipped with alloy hubs and Matrix 550 rims, the bike ensures durability and stability on every ride.

The wheel size, while traditional, offers agility, especially during quick turns and maneuvers, making it perfect for both city rides and off-road adventures. Traction is paramount when cycling, and the Trek 3700 does not disappoint.

Whether you’re navigating wet surfaces after a sudden downpour or gravel-filled trails on a mountain, it ensures that you have the grip and traction you need for a safe and enjoyable ride.

Components and Specifications

Every component of the Trek 3700 speaks of quality and precision. From the SR XCC-T208 48/38/28 crank to the Shimano Acera rear derailleur, every part is designed for optimal performance. The Trek 3700 ensures that you have the best in class components for a smooth and efficient ride.

The handlebars are ergonomically designed for comfort, and the saddle, with its cushioning, ensures that long rides are comfortable. The attention to detail in the Trek 3700’s components is evident, making it a reliable and efficient machine.

Whether you’re tackling steep inclines or cruising on flat terrains, the Trek 3700’s components ensure a seamless ride.

Value for Money

The Trek 3700, priced at an MSRP of around $310, offers unparalleled value for money. When you consider the features, the build quality, and the brand reputation, it’s evident that the Trek 3000 is a wise investment for any cycling enthusiast.

The bike’s durability ensures that it will serve you for years, making it a one-time investment for long-term benefits. Furthermore, the Trek 3700’s popularity among cyclists over the years is a testament to its reliability and performance.

Tailored For Women

women’s mountain bike

The Trek 3700 isn’t just a mountain bike; it’s a mountain bike that understands the unique needs of its female riders. It’s a bike that’s been designed with careful attention to the proportions of women , particularly those with a shorter leg-to-torso ratio.

The Trek 3700 women’s mountain bike features a low stand-over height, making mounting and dismounting considerably easier. It also offers several frame geometry options to ensure a comfortable and efficient ride for every individual. For women with shorter arms and legs, the upright position creates a more comfortable riding experience.

For those of shorter stature, the Trek 3700 women’s mountain bike offers models with 26-inch wheels. These models are easier to handle for those with shorter arms and legs, as the reach to the ground is less awkward compared to bikes with larger wheels.

The design of these bikes also enhances stability, with lower bottom brackets and steeper head tubes. Many models can be fitted with a third water bottle cage on the down tube or a rack mount for extra gear-carrying capability. Some frames even have provisions for mounting racks and fenders, making them suitable for a variety of riding applications, including gravel racing, touring, and commuting.

Those with longer arms and legs might find the standard position on the Trek 3700 women’s mountain bike a bit cramped. In such cases, a geometry similar to regular or medium-sized men’s bikes might be more comfortable.

The Trek 3700 women’s mountain bike may not be the best choice for those living in very hilly areas or those who do most of their riding on trails, as the gearing range may not be sufficient for long, steep uphills. For those who need a little extra help on mountain trails, the XCM version features a Bosch pedal-assist e-drive and hydraulic disc brakes.

While the Trek 3700 women’s mountain bike is designed for off-road use, it may not offer the same level of versatility and road capability as many hybrid or touring models due to its higher bottom bracket and greater tire clearance. But for those seeking a bike tailored for off-road adventures , it is a worthy contender.

What wheel size does the TREK 3700 come with?

The TREK 3700 typically comes with 26-inch wheels, offering a good balance of stability and maneuverability.

How many gears does the TREK 3700 have?

The TREK 3700 features a 21-speed drivetrain, providing a wide range of gears for various terrains.

Is it possible to upgrade components on the TREK 3700?

Yes, many riders choose to upgrade components like the saddle, pedals, or tires to enhance their riding experience.

How do I maintain my TREK 3700 for optimal performance?

Regular maintenance such as cleaning the bike, checking tire pressure, lubricating the chain, and ensuring brakes are in good condition will keep your TREK 3700 performing at its best.

Where can I purchase replacement parts or accessories for the TREK 3700?

Most local bike shops and online retailers will carry parts and accessories compatible with the TREK 3700.

Final Thoughts

The Trek 3700 mountain bike is more than just a bike; it’s a testament to the power of thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship. It’s a bike that understands the unique needs of its riders, from the seasoned mountain biker tackling rugged trails to the casual rider seeking a comfortable, efficient ride.

This bike is a reminder of the adventures that await us in the great outdoors. It’s a call to explore, to challenge ourselves, and to embrace the thrill of the ride. Whether you’re navigating a steep downhill trail or enjoying a leisurely ride through the countryside, the Trek 3700 is there to enhance your experience.

So, if you’re in the market for a mountain bike that offers versatility, durability, and a great riding experience, the Trek 3700 is a worthy contender. It’s more than just a bike; it’s a companion on your cycling journey.

3700 Trek Mountain Bike | All About Trek 3700 Series 3

Trevor Humphres

One of my friends suggested about 3700 Trek Mountain Bike to a cruiser with professional components, only designed for pro riders.

The first ever model of trek 3700 was introduced back in 2003. Since then, as MT biking has boomed, Trek has upgraded its version and the latest.

Trek 3700 bicycle is known for its Alpha Silver Aluminum Frame and semi-integrated headtube, the two most demanding features in MTBs.

Despite having some most remarkable features and upgraded design, the 3700 Trek series is not for professional mountain biking.

3700 trek mountain bike

Kent bikes, without a doubt, come with some excellent parts and specs, but most are for casual biking and weekend riding.

So, when my friend suggested Trek 3700 Series, I decided to test it for its specialized supplies before I could believe and determine Trek 3700 Value professionally.

I would love to share my findings with you. If you are looking for proper bike knowledge and are not a paid review, this will be a fun read for you. You can check my other guides at MTB Knowledge .

3700 Trek Mountain Bike

Trek Mountain Bike

How did the 3700 Trek Mountain Bike become so popular, and why do people still demand it?

Basically, Trek 3700 bicycle is known for its Alpha Silver Aluminum Frame and semi-integrated headtube. These two features are most demanding in the mountain biking industry.

Trek 3700 Series 3

Most mountain bikes are heavier and, if lightweight, then expensive.

But with Alpha Silver Aluminum Frame, Trek 3700 Series 3 introduced a lightweight MTB in the market at the most affordable cost, so every mountain biker supported the model.

Trek 3700 Series 3

The other property that has made the 3700 trek mountain bike stand out was its Semi-integrated head tube. It doesn’t require threading but keeps intact using only a tiny lip protruding to locate the cup.

This increases the bike life because, with such integration, the headset is prevented from being pressed all the way inside the head tube.

Due to such notable segments, reviewers called it Trek 3700 Alpha.

Well, we are not here to make you buy something or not to purchase anything based on our recommendation because we know every biker’s definition of ‘ideal bike’ varies. Therefore, we are just letting you know the Pros, Cons, Goods, Bad, and User thoughts about Hiland Bikes and leave the decision to you if you consider it a good brand. However, at the end of this blog, we will surely give our opinion on if Hiland is a good bike brand.

However, this is not all. There is still a lot more to discuss. Now I shall review all the specs, bits, and pieces one by one to expect in the 3700 Trek Mountain Bike.

Trek 3700 Mountain Bike Review 2023

Trek 3700 Mountain Bike incorporates the more advanced, ergonomic mountain bike frame and upgraded specs, claiming to offer an up-to-demand, better version of the mountain bike at more affordable rates.

Let’s find out if Trek 3700 Mountain Bike is perfect for purchasing as a professional or not.

1. Alpha Silver Aluminum Frame

Steel is the most common material to manufacture MTB frames because it is inexpensive and immune to breakage. Aluminum is the second most common ingredient in manufacturing mountain bike frames, but it is costly.

Alpha Silver Aluminum makes different chemistry offering immune to break, robust, lightweight, and affordable frames. This will never let the stress or strain reach the parts and make them lose their lives.

2. Gear Adjustment with 24-Speed Drivetrain

The Drive train, drive-train, or drivetrain is the central hub where various MTB components are attached. The 3700 trek mountain bike drivetrain is enriched with 24-speed adjustments.

Speed adjustment is the main factor for a mountain bike to appear professional because you have to go a lot while driving on the jaggy trails.

Uphill riding, downhill trialing, cruising in the mud, and then stones come your way; at every terrain, you need a different speed. With 24 speeds, you are able to enjoy trekking on every path.

One thing I loved while riding the Trek 3700 bicycle was the fast and slippery shifting; I didn’t feel uncomfortable at any abode.

3. SR Suntour XCM Adjustable Shock Fork

Suspensions or shock forks allow wheels to absorb the thrusts while riding on the serrated lanes. Most mountain bikes come with low-quality clefts when offered at the lowest rates.

But, Trek 3700 Mountain Bike has an upgraded SR Suntour XCM Adjustable Shock Fork with a full floater suspension system.

Trek offers pre-adjustable fork absorption for more convenient and safer riding. You can pre-adjust them according to the lane you are about to cover and save yourself from hustles and aches on the way.

4. All-Condition, Light Trail Specialty Tires

LT3, 26×2.0″ Tires are attached on both sides. The best thing about these tires is that they are wider enough to take all terrains. However, most professional bikes come with 2.125″ or 2.25″ wheel sizes.

Here, Trek 3700 series 3 lacks a professional feature. You cannot take it for a more professional ride on bumpier roads; it won’t be able to give you a smooth ride there because the tire width is only 2 inches.

However, I don’t think I should un-recommend the 3700 trek mountain bike only due to this thing; you are already paying a very convenient rate, so compromising on some segments is obvious.

5. Tektro Novela Instant Mechanical Brakes

Tektro Novela is quite similar brakes to Shimano, and the ride quality depends on the mountain biker and what sort of brakes they look for in an MTB.

Trek 3700 mountain bike has disc brakes from Tektro Novela. These brakes are pretty well to converse downhill biking, muddy roads cruising, and uphill riding.

However, instead of disc brakes, the system is mechanical; it might diminish your ride-ability to some extent, specifically if you are used to a disc brake system.

6. Bontrager Handlebar with SSR Grips

Handlebars are made of steel, so they can stay as it is without bending, breaking, or losing their shapes in the long run. It adds to the life of a mountain bike. It also plays a role in maneuverability.

In the 3700 trek mountain bike series , Bontrager Handlebars are utilized. But this is not all; comfy SSR Grips are added on the edges so the rider can have complete hand contact and control.

Many expensive mountain bikes don’t come with such grippers, and riders require buying them separately. So, I definitely loved this comfortable addition from Trek.

Trek 3700 Alpha | Pros & Cons

From the above discussion, I also want to add some advantages and disadvantages of Trek MTB 3700 series 3 for beginners who are not so good at comprehending tricky terms of mountain biking.

Trek 3700 Alpha Aluminum Mountain Bike

Trek 3700 Mountain Bike | Pros

Here is the list of trek 3700 advantages, pros, and positives you will enjoy riding this bike:

  • Alpha frame with silver aluminum material
  • Comes with all the necessary gears and specs
  • Suspensions, brakes system, and adjustable features are available
  • 24 speeds drivetrain
  • Simplest thumb shifter
  • All-terrain riding
  • Lightweight
  • 300 lb. payload
  • Cable pull control
  • Maintainable features
  • Free accessories with the bike (SSR grips with handlebars)
  • Full hand contact while riding
  • Safer and secure riding
  • Beginner friendly

Trek 3 Series 3700 | Cons

Here is the list of disadvantages, cons, and downside features that require improvement in trek 3700:

  • No Disc brakes that require to increase your riding experience
  • Saddle is made of a bit hard material
  • Not a comfy sitting
  • Wellgo nylon pedals (damage-prone)
  • No rack or fenders

Is 3700 Trek Mountain Bike Professional | Conclusion

It has powerful, but single suspension and tires are not apt for professional riding. The brakes are manual, and the disc brakes are unavailable.

So, despite having some most remarkable features and upgraded design, the 3700 Trek series is not for professional mountain biking.

However, the bike is perfect for MTB beginners to learn skillful maneuvering in the hills.

Trek 3700 or Trek 4300?

trek 3700 testbericht

  • Add to quote

I've decided on an entry bike - to ride on single tracks, two tracks, bike paths, nothing agressive. I'm going to get a Trek 3700 unless the Trek 4300 is a much better deal - for the additional $90. My LBS doesn't carry the 3900. Any thoughts, advice? Thanks

Trek 4300. I have one and I love it. I use it for all the things you listed above and beat it around pretty good and it works well and has yet to quit. The fork is a little better on the 4300 and if you can afford the disc even better, but I have the orange silver model and I love it. all I've changed are the grips, saddle, and seat post.

My buddy rides a 4300 for all the terrain you mentioned. It has served him well now going on a year.

I have a 2005 Trek 4300 with disk brakes. I would defintily get the disk brakes, worth the extra money. I did upgrade the front shock this year to a Rock Shock Tora 318, the stock shock would bottom out to easily. Also, be careful of the tire, very soft. I got a flat tire from a pine needle. Changed them out and put Hutchinson Pythons on now. Have fun with whatever you end up with. See ya in the woods.

Thanks, I'm going to drop by the LBS today after work.

Definitely upgrade to the 4300 with the Alpha Aluminum Black frame technology. This is a great frame and will offer years of good service. My only complaint on my wife's 4300 is the stock front fork. Really lame for such an otherwise great bike. I plan on replacing the fork as her riding skills get better. I highly recommend going with the Shimano disc brake package if you can afford it. Best of luck!

absolutely buy the 4300 if you can swing the extra $90. And if you can't, wait two weeks for another paycheck. It's worth it for sure. Virtually every component is a step up on the 4300, albeit still on the lower end.

I faced the same dilemma in January 2005. I mentioned that I might someday try real mountain biking, instead of just the flat trails and paved bike paths, and the salesman suggested the 4300 instead, because of a tougher wheelset. I bought the 4300, and after 1500 miles of riding it, I spent a bunch more on a much more expensive bike, and just about have 1000 miles on it. Be careful, you might get hooked!

Questions and answers:

As of May 2023, 76,000 Russian Rubles or about 1,000 USD is a fairly significant amount of money for most people living in Russia. Most working people in Russia (not in Moscow or St. Petersburg) earn in the range of about 20,000-40,000 Rubles per month.

Just be very careful when sending money to anyone in Russia unless you are absolutely sure that it is a real person. Otherwise the risk of being scammed is very high. In our opinion, at least without regular live video communication, you should not trust anyone.

Here are some examples of prices in Moscow and St. Petersburg in 2018, so they will probably be a little higher in the spring of 2019.

1 metro ticket: 55 Rubles in Moscow and 45 Rubles in St. Petersburg. During one day you will most likely need at least 2 tickets, and possibly 4-6 depending on the places you are going to visit, so at least about 200-300 Rubles only for this purpose.

The cost of food can vary very much. The average check in fast food restaurants (McDonald's for example) is about 500-700 rubles, so if you will eat there, you will need about 1,500-2,000 per day.

About entertainment, if you mean museums/galleries, the average prices are in the range of about 200-500 Rubles per visit in Moscow. So I think that 1,500 per day won't be enough and you should better have something like 3,000-3,500 Rubles per day.
