Shafts are tip trimmed (if required) to manufacturer’s recommendations. For steel shafts, we abrade the tips. For graphite shafts, we remove the polyurethane coating. When you receive your shaft, all you need to do is mix epoxy, install and align. After the epoxy is cured, cut to your final playing length from the butt end and install the grip.

I just purchased a set of DGTI S200 from PCH golf on ebay. Seen on this site where they where listed as a trusted clubmaker. So when I received the shafts the first thing I noticed was that they weren't in the black tour issue package but individual shafts. They had the S200 printed on the butt end (with the correct code) however not on the label like the S400TI, other than that they look legit. So I decided to check them out, first measured the butt & tip of each shaft, they measured as spec. then proceeded to weigh them out and found they ranged from (5) 128.82g - (2) 129.73g - (1) 130.63g - however out of the =/- .5g spec , S200 listed at 129g on website so the Tour Issue should be 128.5 - 129.5. Would these shafts be well made fakes or just got the sets mixed up due to individual packaging. The seller stated they got them from tour van before I purchased???

Each shaft has a different weight a 3 iron shaft is a different shaft than a 9 iron.

I agree with your analysis; I believe the shafts should have a tighter weight range. Maybe call True Temper and see what they say.

Jeez! Okay.....True Temper offers a "Tour Issue" version of Dynamic Gold that is available at [i]retail[/i] in S400 and X100; these are what I had assumed that everyone regards as "Tour Issue" when talking about Dynamic Gold shafts. This set has a weight variance of +/- .5 grams throughout the shafts in the set as stated above. True Temper also offers S200/S300 "tour issue[b]d"[/b] (as well as other weights/flexes I would assume) that are not available at [i]retail[/i]. These "tour issued" shafts are not sorted as a set and can vary more than the +/- .5 grams within the set that is found in a "Tour Issue" shaft set. If I was really hell bent on getting a weight sorted set of S200s or S300s, I would buy 5 or more sets and weigh them myself and send the rest back.

Exactly, I found this out the hard way! I thought they were legit & was coming from a reputable seller until I checked them out. I posted the findings so that anyone else that comes across a set of S200 or S300 tour issue's won't get fooled like I did. It's not the same quality control standard.

Introduction.

It’s not too often that a product sneaks up on me, but True Temper’s Dynamic Gold AMT shafts did just that.  Their sister set over at Project X, the LZ, has stolen the headlines with recent PGA Tour domination, but the AMT is no slouch: 5 PGA Tour wins, in the bags of 40+ players, and over $33 million in winnings.  From the first day of testing, I saw why as these shafts made a damn near irrefutable case to go into the bag.

The feel of the Dynamic Golf AMT shafts is identical to the industry-standard Dynamic Gold.  It’s super stable, has very little kick, and a solid impact feel.

Performance

The question you may be asking is, “What’s the point of making each shaft progressively lighter?”  Well, there is no point…unless you like hitting your long irons higher and farther with less effort while maintaining control of your scoring irons .

For me, switching to DG AMT may allow me to put more irons back in my bag.  As someone who hits a fairly low ball with average speed, I gave up my 3 and 4 irons a few years ago, but I still keep them around for shaft testing.  In testing with the exact same iron head, I was getting 5-7 MPH more ball speed from DG AMT than from standard DG.  That’s a direct result of the 3I shaft weighing 114 grams instead of 130.  I also saw gains in my mid-irons, though they were not as large.

It’s important to note that Dynamic Gold AMT is NOT a flighted set .  Flighted sets, like the DG Pro, are a great idea, but the DG AMT provides a different way to solve the problem of hitting long irons too low and short.

Finally, the other question I want to answer is, “What separates Dynamic Gold AMT Tour Issue from standard Dynamic Gold AMT?”  The answer is quality control tolerances.  When you pay for the Tour Issue version of a Dynamic Gold shaft, you’re guaranteed that there will be no more than a +/- 0.5 gram weight tolerance throughout the set.  Plus the stickers are cooler.

If you miss your 3I and want to get it back in the bag, switching to Dynamic Gold AMT may be your best bet.  Though you get to keep the same heavy, consistent feel in your short irons, DG AMT gives you a lighter shaft in your mid to long irons that allows for more ball speed and more distance.  Visit a True Temper Performance Fitting Center to see if Dynamic Gold AMT is right for your game.

Hey, Matt. TX for your nice article. I’m curious to know the difference between DG AMT’s and other newer innovative shafts out there when married with Tour-level heads like the 716 AP2 or Mizuno’s 950 Tour.

What other innovative shafts should I consider?

I couldn’t recommend a shaft outside of the context of a fitting. Being in Illinois, I would recommend that you get a fitting at Club Champion to find out what shaft performs best for you.

How do these dynamic gold amt shafts compare to say the XP 95 both in stiff or regular….Should the XP 95 shafts launch higher then these new dynamic gold amt shafts???? Trying to find a shaft to put into a set of Wilson Staff FG V 6 irons…..Thanks…Ali

I would strongly recommend you work with a fitter to find the right shaft for your irons. On paper, the XP 95 is much lighter than the AMT and should launch higher, but actual performance can vary based on individual swings/preferences.

Hey Matt, can you give me your thoughts on the AMT whites versus the Project X 6.0’s. I hit both in a fitting for 718s, but can’t see a noticeable difference. Am I missing something?

I’m not sure what the differences are among the various AMTs that Titleist is using in the 718s, so I couldn’t give you an educated comparison. Generally, if you’re not seeing or feeling a difference, you’re not missing anything. If it’s not different for you, it’s not different.

Thanx for your input…as an older golfer I thought a sr shaft would work for me. I was wrong!! Now back with amt red r300 and can feel the ball on my club face. Team titleist always.

The X100 is going to be stiffer. It will feel different and likely launch the ball lower with less spin.

I’m considering this shaft vs the Modus 120 and $ Taper paired with a Cobra MB/CB. Which do you prefer based on feel, trajectory, and overall performance?

On feel, I prefer the Modus. For performance, I would play the one that my fitter said performed best in the heads I was getting.

Thanks – our pro shop is pretty archaic as for as club fitting (rural Idaho). I hit the Modus on the range and it felt great. Haven’t had the opportunity to hit either of the others (but they come in black which matches the head and looks awesome!)

So now we all need lighter shafts in the longer irons. If a shaft is too heavy it’s too heavy , put the egos away and play lighter shafts or god forbid even try graphite.

Tip Prepping - $2.95

Shafts are tip trimmed (if required) to manufacturer’s recommendations. For steel shafts, we abrade the tips. For graphite shafts, we remove the polyurethane coating. When you receive your shaft, all you need to do is mix epoxy, install and align. After the epoxy is cured, cut to your final playing length from the butt end and install the grip.

True Temper AMT Tour White Shaft Review

True temper amt tour white shaft.

True Temper is a staple in golf shafts throughout the modern era of golf.  While the Dynamic Gold is as popular as ever, True Temper still continues to find new ways to give golfers fresh options to optimize their iron performance.  One of their more recent efforts is the True Temper AMT Tour White shaft.  AMT actually stands for “Ascending Mass Technology” – the shaft weight increases 3 grams between each club.  Out of the AMT family, the AMT Tour White is the low spin, low launch option with Tour weighting.

How Does it Feel?

Utilizing the same “DNA” of the classic Dynamic Gold shaft, the True Temper AMT shaft gets heavier as you progress from your long irons to your short irons.  What this means is that the AMT Tour White is lighter in the long irons and the shorter irons have a more traditional Tour weighting and feel .  I found the longer irons to feel noticeably lighter and smoother through impact.  The scoring irons are definitely firmer with a little extra heft to them.  What you’re really gaining here is that the short irons are firm, crisp, and responsive like you’d expect from a regular Dynamic Gold, while the longer irons have a similar feel in your hands but a lot less of a battle throughout the swing.

Flex profile seems to shift a little as you work through the AMT Tour White set as well.  The shorter irons feel firmer with a lower kick and stiffer tip.  As you move toward the longer irons, the kick moves a little further up the shaft and the feel lightens up a bit.  While the kick point does seem to move up, the tip still has a firmer feel to stay consistent with the set.

On-Course Performance

One thing to keep in mind is that the True Temper AMT Tour White is not supposed to be wildly different than the original Dynamic Gold shaft.  In terms of the shorter irons, I really found very little difference.  My trajectory, spin, distance, etc were all about the same as a DG x100.  The biggest performance differences came from the long and mid irons.   Frankly, I’ve always found the Dynamic Gold to be a tough play as you get into the longer irons.  My AMT Tour White experience was much different, however.  I was able to get easy penetrating ball flights with tight control.  The more player-friendly long irons made manipulating shots much easier.  I would say the AMT Tour White could be the answer to the prayers of a player that likes the control and flight of the Dynamic Gold but feels like they’re constantly fighting against the long irons.

Final Thoughts

Like I said, I think the True Temper AMT Tour White is a great option for the better player that likes the standard Dynamic Gold, but finds the middle and longer irons tough to play.  The AMT Tour White could solve that problem for them.  Having that same tight control but easier launch is a big benefit in the AMT Tour White.   Trust me, the lighter weights make a huge difference in the long irons.  As always though, our experiences and swings are different.  Make sure you work with a quality fitter first when considering the AMT family.

I have Mizuno JPX-900 irons combo set, includingbthe MP-18 MMC Fli hi all with KBS 120 Tour shafts. I’m a soon to be 60 year old with 4 handi and swing speeds still up there with some of the flat bellies kids. I hit my 4I consistently 205- 215. I keep trying hybrids to get that 225-230 gap filled with marginal results. Now for My question: I just bought the MP-18 FLI Hi 3 iron and couldn’t find it in KBS ( except C taper…and I don’t like reviews on those) so got the iron with the TT AMT white Tour shaft. How do you compare the TT shaft above to KBS Tour 120? As always…The proof will be when I hit it, and if problems likely will switch shafts back to KBS. Hope I don’t ruin my 4 iron feel by swing a lighter TT for the 3I but will take some risk. Thanks for your help. Jack

I can’t really make that comparison. They feel very different and the AMT Tour is lower launching on paper. I sort of feel like you’ve already made the purchase so just try it out, and if it doesn’t work for you, you know you like the KBS Tour in 120 in your irons so there you go. At least that’s how I’d treat the situation if I were in your shoes.

Are the AMTs an updated Tour Concept? Or those were constant weight but flighted. Similar though?

I honestly couldn’t tell you. Not familiar enough with the Tour Concept.

Any information/specs on the AMT Tour White S400?

I don’t but if you find any shop online that sells them, they’ll have all the specs.

Unfortunately I have not been able to find a shop. The only place I noticed that they are available is in Titleist’s Custom Option page. I reached out to True Temper but haven’t had any luck hearing back from them.

Which KBS model are you comparing to? Are you asking if the specifically AMT Tour White in R300 plays to a S KBS (whatever model), or the standard TT R300?

Personally, I tested these in X100 and can’t really speak to the other flexes. I would also say trying to compare this shaft to a KBS Tour isn’t a fair comparison. Very different profiles and feels.

I don’t know, Carlos. I’m only working with the information provided on the True Temper website and the information on Golfworks. At this point, you’re likely better off following up with direct emails to True Temper to discuss their manufacturing and distribution processes.

No, the white ones are “tour weight”, not “Tour Issue” sorted. There is a Tour Issue AMT available with tighter weight sorting though.

what is similar to amt white s300 for KBS shafts. I’m looking to switch to KBS

It’s been awhile but I also think they’re sort of apples to oranges. Maybe C-Taper or Tour V? But I’m only saying that as they’re KBS’s low/low options.
