State to ‘closely monitor’ cruise ships after large liner appeared too close to Na Pali Coast

KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The state is putting cruise ship operators on notice after the large liner Celebrity Edge appeared to come too close to Kauai’s Na Pali coast a month ago .

Photos and videos showed the huge ship in shallow waters.

However, a state investigation did not find evidence that it violated rules to stay 3,000 feet from shore.

Still, DLNR chair Dawn Chang sent a letter to cruise companies on Friday warning that they’ll now be “closely monitored” not only along the Na Pali Coast but statewide.

• While in a party, we now display the most restrictive Crossplay setting among the party members, as it applies to the whole party. Also fixed an issue where party members with differing Crossplay settings couldn't matchmake.
• Fixed an issue with displaying incorrect player names on some Social screens.
• Fixed a crash caused by spamming open/close View Party Invites, but who would even do that, calm down.
• On consoles, Ubisoft Connect party invites could display as if they were coming from Xbox or PlayStation Network friends. Fixed that, along with some other weird invite-related things.

Miscellaneous

• Fixed some missing terrain textures when players joined matches in progress on some maps.
• Input-Based Matchmaking setting status now updates correctly after changing it on Xbox.
• Fixed a thing on PS5 where people could sneak into places they shouldn't via PS5 Activities.

After Mexico City, Athens, Marrakech, Lecce, Seville, Chantilly and Los Angeles, Dior chose Edinburgh as its latest fashion show location, which with its verdant scenery, Gothic architecture and Celtic legends transformed the Dior Cruise fashion show into something magical and fascinating.

The fashion show opened with the sound of bagpipes, the unmistakable musical instrument typical of Scottish tradition, and then the unicorn and the thistle, symbols of Scotland, which are inserted in a new iteration of the house’s millefiori motif. The heraldic embroidery seen in the clothes calls back to the history of that technique, part of Mary Stuart’s style as detailed in Clare Hunter’s book Embroidering Her Truth: Mary, Queen of Scots and the Language of Power .

Art historian Hunter, with whom Chiuri has collaborated since 2020, has highlighted through her work the meaning and purpose of embroidery as a means of communication for women throughout history. Patterns and colors, compositions and symbols in the new Dior collection are a tribute to the resilience and wit of the historical figure of Mary Stuart and the author telling her story today. “In the collection we studied her history, observed paintings and focused on her aesthetics. We emphasized the political interpretation of Mary Stuart’s embroidery, it is important to remember that she used embroidery as a tool of expressive freedom,” said the designer.

Also starring in this collection is tartan, Scotland’s iconic fabric. “The only fabric that can resist fashion,” as Dior wrote in The Little Dictionary of Fashion , of the print so often used by designers that has crossed different styles, from romantic to punk. “I worked on the kilt as a drape of fabric put over the body, to create clothes as if they were blankets draped over the silhouette,” says Chiuri.

For a dip into the past, photographic images from Dior’s 1955 Spring Summer presentation become prints or are applied on the edge of kilts or caban coats, and are also inside garments. To recollect the legacy of Mary Stuart, whose life was spent between France and Scotland, Chiuri also commissioned artist Pollyanna Johnson to create a contemporary portrait.

Numerous celebrities flocked to Dior’s court, among them, house ambassadors Anya Taylor-Joy and Jennifer Lawrence, as well as Rosamund Pike, Lily Collins, Maisie Williams, Geri Halliwell, and Beatrice and Pierre Casiraghi.

Dozens of United Airlines passengers report feeling sick on flight to Houston

(NEXSTAR) – Passengers aboard a United Airlines flight from Vancouver to Houston reported feeling ill upon arrival Friday afternoon, prompting to the airline to take the plane out of service for a “deep cleaning,” a United spokesperson confirmed.

A total of 25 passengers were sickened, Martee Black, a spokesperson for the Houston Fire Department, told Nexstar. Three were treated on the scene at George Bush Intercontinental airport, according to the Houston Airport System; the rest elected to continue on their journey or head home.

“Public health officers from CDC’s Houston Port Health Station worked with EMS to evaluate ill passengers on board,” a spokesperson for the CDC wrote in an emailed statement obtained by Nexstar.

Most of the sickened passengers had only “mild GI symptoms,” the CDC added, and none were exhibiting a fever.

“No passengers met CDC criteria for further public health follow-up,” the CDC wrote. “Passengers from the flight continued with their travel plans.”

Black, of the Houston Fire Department, said the sickened passengers were previously on a cruise together. (Around 75 of the United passengers, total, were on that same cruise, HFD said.) United Airlines, in its statement, also indicated that at least “several” of the sickened passengers had “been on the same cruise” prior to boarding the flight in Vancouver.

Neither the HFD, nor United, said which cruise the passengers may have taken.

“United Airlines is actively coordinating with health authorities to address the situation,” an airline spokesperson said. “As a precautionary measure, the aircraft will be removed from service and go through a deep cleaning before returning to service. Ensuring the health and safety of our passengers and crew remains our top priority.”

Cases of norovirus on cruise ships, meanwhile, have been reported on several different cruise lines in recent months, sickening hundreds of passengers, according to the CDC.

Outbreaks of norovirus are said to be the “most frequent” cause of stomach bugs on cruise ships, the CDC notes, though cruises are a relatively rare setting for such outbreaks, accounting for only about 1% in the U.S., the agency says. (They’re more frequently reported in health care facilities, restaurants and child care centers.) Still, such outbreaks can be “especially challenging to control” on cruise vessels because of passengers sharing recreational and dining spaces, the CDC says.
