We sail on the Knysna Lagoon and to the Heads & Indian Ocean and beyond (weather permitting), drop anchor at the beautiful turquoise Featherbed bay where we have lunch, swim and enjoy a day out in nature and the sunshine.

Featherbed Co.  gives visitors to the Garden Route an unforgettable experience on the Knysna Lagoon. The Lagoon, more accurately defined as an estuary, has five fresh water rivers flowing in from the surrounding Outeniqua Mountains meeting with the surge of sea water from the Indian Ocean through the mighty headlands – known as the ‘Knysna Heads’ - the grand sandstone cliffs towering above the entrance to the Knysna Lagoon.

There are various family activities in Knysna, of which Featherbed Co. offers several unique activities. Included is our own private nature reserve & trail, restaurants and a fleet of various boats. We can offer activities such as cruising the lagoon, nature trails and hiking the Knysna Heads, as well as hosting private functions, conferences, and weddings at any of our venues.

Our boating fleet includes a one-of-a-kind Paddle Cruiser, the famous John Benn and a Rivercat ferry. Featherbed is a privately-owned, registered Nature Reserve and a South African Heritage Site, No.59. It is a pristine piece of paradise situated on the Western Head of Knysna and is accessible by ferry only.

In order to protect the splendour of the natural beauty, access to the Reserve is controlled. Numbers are limited and visits are only permitted in the company of the Reserve's specialist guides.

This 4hour excursion departs daily and reservations are essential. It is a wonderful outing for all ages and fitness levels. Good walking shoes are recommended and remember to bring your camera, hats and sunblock in summer and a warm jacket for the ferry trip in winter.

The nature reserve offers Knysna adventure activities not to be missed. A perfect outdoor family holiday activity to be enjoyed by both young and old.

Wow, what a superb experience! With a nature reserve guide with us throughout our visit, this was one of the highlights of our tour. Taken by boat to the reserve, we then had great fun travelling by trailer to the top of the hill, followed by a fairly easy walk back down. The views were breathtaking and the guides were very helpful and knowledgeable - they obviously love the place, and quite rightly so! “Lunch with friends”

Went here on a Sunday lunchtime and had delicious fish and chips next to the water. Gorgeous views, watched the boats coming in and out and also shared a really yummy bottle of wine called Splattered Toad! What more could you wish for on a sunny Sunday? You will be mesmerised by the exquisite views of the lagoon framed by our beautiful town and the Outeniqua mountains as a backdrop. We often see a playful seal or interesting birdlife along the way, or be adventurous and take a swim in the clear water. You are welcome to bring your own music we have a sound system onboard.

We depart daily, every 2 hours from Sirocco restaurant on Thesen Island, bookings are essential. You can book per person, or hire the boat exclusively for the ultimate function, or celebration. Our maximum capacity is 12 people per cruise

We have a cash bar onboard with a variety of drinks and soft drinks.

There is no toilet onboard.

Remember to bring your camera, hat, sunscreen, binoculars and something warm, as it can get cooler on the water than on land, especially during the late afternoons.

Please bring your own beach towel, should you want to swim.

We don’t allow shoes onboard the Catamaran. We will keep your shoes safe for you in our onboard storage, during the boat cruise. Please bring some cozy socks along in the colder winter months.

We have a toilet onboard, but please try to use the bathrooms on Thesen Island before you board.

No smoking on board please.

In the unlikely event that this boat is unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances, Ocean Sailing Charters reserve the right to utilize an alternative boat for this experience.

Knysna Heads Boat Tour

Daily departures at 9am, 10:30, 12:00 and 13:30.

A trip to Knysna is not complete without a cruise on the pristine Knysna Lagoon, home to the world famous Knysna Heads and many species of bird and marine life. Join us onboard the "Oyster Boat" for a memorable, leisurely 75 minute long cruise to the famous Knysna Heads and back we also pass through the Featherbed Bay which offers calm turquoise waters. Sit back and relax, enjoy the feeling of our African sun on your face, the wind in your hair, while viewing Knysna from a unique vantage. Enjoy hearing all about one of SA's favourite coastal towns, Knysna , from a local, homegrown perspective!

Cruises depart daily from our Activity Desk at Sirocco Restaurant, Thesen Island Harbour Town, Long Street, Knysna. Please remember your camera, sunblock, sunhat and wind breaker (just in case!) And remember - our boat is perfect for families and children of all ages are welcome. Drinks and snacks are not provided on this cruise, but guests are welcome to bring along their own.
