Dodge Journey P0344: Camshaft Position Sensor → Circuit Intermittent

P0344 is an OBDII diagnostic code.  It is a generic code, which means that it has the same meaning for the Dodge Journey as it would any other vehicle.  If your Journey has this code, it means that the PCM (powertrain control module) has detected that the camshaft position circuit is sending an intermittent signal.

Your camshaft position sensor sends a signal back to the PCM when the ignition is on.  Its job is to measure the rotational position of the camshaft. This information is used to control engine performance and timing, and is checked against the crankshaft position sensor.

An intermittent signal means that the signal coming from this sensor is failing to reach the PCM at certain points.  The PCM will then trip the check engine light and you’ll get P0344.

P0344 is usually caused by an intermittent electrical fault.  That fault is usually caused by an issue coming from your Journey’s camshaft position sensor, or the sensor itself.

P0344 Symptoms:  Dodge Journey

The symptoms of P0344 can vary quite a bit.  In some cases, the only thing that the driver may notice is the check engine light.  In other cases, your Journey may not start at all.

• Check Engine Light – This is often the only symptom of P0344.
• No Start – Without data from the camshaft position sensor, it’s quite common to get a no start from your Journey.  The engine will crank, but that’s it.
• Tough to Start – If the camshaft position sensor is sending an intermittent signal, it might be enough to get the engine started, but it may take longer than normal.
• Rattling Sound – This indicates that there may be an issue with the camshaft position sensor itself.
• Lost Power – Without a strong signal from the camshaft position sensor, it is common for engine power to suffer.

P0344 Causes:  Dodge Journey

Here are some of the most common causes of P0344:

Wiring Issues: Camshaft Position Sensor

One of the most common causes of P0344 is wiring related.  If there is an open or short between the wiring harness and PCM, the signal will be intermittent.  Make sure that the wiring harness is seated well into the camshaft position sensor and not damaged in any way.

An inspection of the wiring harness is a great place to start looking for the cause of P0344.  You’ll want to look for cracked, burnt, or exposed wiring, and inspect the harness plugs.

Bad Camshaft Position Sensor

The camshaft position sensor itself can go bad over time.  It will no longer be able to send a signal to the PCM and your Journey will get the intermittent P0344 code.

P0344 is know to be triggered by a battery that has low/no charge.  If you’ve recently tried to start your Journey with a battery like this, that may be what threw the code.  If there are no other symptoms other than P0344, and the battery was low/dead, it’s highly likely that’s what caused it.

A bad starter or wiring issue in the starter system circuit can cause P0344.  It’s not nearly as common as the camshaft position sensor or it’s wiring to have gone bad. 

Conclusion:  P0344 Dodge Journey

This is one of the more commonly misdiagnosed codes.  Be thorough in your inspection of the wiring harness.  That’s usually the cause.  Also, the signal may be intermittent now, but it might not be long before it gets worse and your Journey won’t start at all.  Try and get it repaired as soon as possible.  Good luck!

Camshaft Sensor vvt 2.4l Code P000b

I have a 2009 Dodge Journey with the vvt 2.4l engine. The engine light recently came on with code P000b. I have replaced the camshaft sensor on the front driver side of the engine (after an hour of looking for it) but the light returned. Upon further investigation I'm told that it's cam shaft sensor b, I'm having trouble finding any diagrams or information on this so if someone from the forum can help I'd be very thankful, also is it the same sensor (part number) that I already replaced or are they different modules?

You have to remove the heat shield to get to the sensor (heat shield is area with bunches of small circles, loosen the long bolt that is shown above the shield).

The p/n is the same for both sensors (68080819AB). However, the diagnostics for P000B do not at all involve changing the sensor...

The diagnostics procedure is complex, but here are the solutions listed in order of probability of cause:

ENGINE OIL DIRTY OR CONTAMINATED

INCORRECT ENGINE OIL VISCOSITY

ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR OR CIRCUIT

ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR CIRCUIT

(F344) FUSED ASD/MAIN RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN OR SHORTED

(K276) VVT EXHAUST CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN OR SHORTED

VVT EXHAUST SOLENOID

CAMSHAFT 1/2 PHASER

IMPROPER ASSEMBLY OF CAMSHAFT/CRANKSHAFT TIMING CHAIN AND SPROCKETS

HIGH FRICTION IN CAMSHAFT OR OTHER VALVETRAIN COMPONENTS

POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

I wanted to update this so it might help someone in the future, after replacing both sensors it turned out to be the VVT EXHAUST SOLENOID.

I see above what the code P000B is. Can anyone tell me what the code P0014.

I have changed both cam sensors, and still both codes come up after driven 60 miles.

why not goggle it,took me 2 seconds ...... P0014   is the OBD-II generic code that the engine control module (ECM) has determined that the bank 1 exhaust camshaft is more advanced than what the ECM has commanded it be. This over-advanced condition could be during advancing or retarding of the camshaft timing.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
