Adele Laurie Blue Adkins is one of the most celebrated vocalists alive today. Her uniquely powerful voice, exceptional vocal talent, songwriting expertise, and relentless drive to improve her craft have cemented her firmly at the top of the music industry – and the charts.

Adele’s impressive songwriting credits, long list of music awards, and consistently sold-out tours are testaments to her widespread fame. Since her debut in 2007, no one can deny she is one of the best vocalists of our time.

Before Adele became a powerhouse musician, she honed her skills during her childhood in London, UK. Adele held a deep passion for singing and refining her vocals from the age of four, which eventually led her to the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. She spent her school years diving deeper into music creation, learning songwriting and guitar. Soon enough, her pathway to success was well within reach.

Following graduation, Adele took the next step toward securing a solid record deal. She quickly landed a recording contract with the UK’s XL Recordings in 2006. Her 2007 single “Hometown Glory” provided a sneak peek of what Adele was capable of. New listeners couldn’t deny her strong, powerful singing range as she belted out her best on the breakthrough track.

Her rise began earnestly when “Chasing Pavements” hit the radio waves in 2008. It slid smoothly onto the UK charts and set the tone for her debut album 19. Adele’s signature sound made waves in mainstream media. She had the voice, songwriting skills, and full-fledged potential to become the next certified phenom.

Because of 19’s undeniable versatility, Adele earned two Grammy awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2009. The stakes were high for the songstress’s follow-up projects, but thanks to Adele’s staple work ethic and natural talent, she tackled her next era with grace.

In 2011, Adele stepped away from her usual ballads with “Rolling in the Deep,” delivering pop-friendly, blues-inspired beats. As the single soared in popularity on the radio and internationally, so did Adele’s star status. Her sophomore studio album 21 dropped in 2011, bringing with it multiple smash hits. With “Rolling in the Deep,” “Someone Like You,” and “Set Fire to the Rain” all topping charts, Adele became the first female artist to have three simultaneous singles in the Billboard top 10. At the next year’s Grammys, Adele took home all six awards she was nominated for, becoming the only woman to ever do so other than Beyoncé.

Adele entered 2015 with more Grammys and renewed vigor under her belt. After nearly eight years since her official debut, the artist was ready to take on her title as one of this generation’s greatest popstars. She effortlessly segued into her next project by releasing the smash hit “Hello.” The single’s nostalgia, regret, and wistfulness weaved their way into listeners’ hearts and laid the groundwork for her next album 25.

With the help of “Hello” and Adele’s impeccable vocal range, 25 was one of the best-selling albums in 2015. It was no easy feat, especially with other top-notch artists like One Direction, Justin Bieber, and Rihanna also releasing new music. However, Adele’s presence pushed forward and remained steady on the worldwide charts.

Her most recent LP 30, released in 2021, continued to take the world by storm. Adele broke new ground as she sang about motherhood, depression, and divorce. It was a candid look into the artist’s private life, unveiling her struggles during the past six years.

Like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Celine Dion, and Britney Spears, Adele joins the long list of artists who have made themselves comfortable at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas as performers-in-residence.

As Adele’s discography grows, so does her popularity. Her breathtaking voice, devotion to her creative development, and work on upcoming albums keep her at the top of her game.

Adele continues to tour and perform live. Like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Celine Dion, and Britney Spears, Adele joins the long list of artists who have made themselves comfortable at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas as performers-in-residence.

Live reviews

(Adèle in Ziggodome 6-6-2016)

"Make You Feel My Love" blijft bijzonder als cover, hulde ook aan Bob Dylan.

The journey from the center of the arena to the main stage was lit by camera phones and shrieks of joy. Once there, “Hello” transitioned into “Hometown Glory”. London landmarks gave way to the Denver skyline, as the lyrics changed from ‘my hometown’ to ‘your hometown.’ What could have come across as gimmicky at some mainstream country show, somehow rang true as an honest tribute to the city in which Adele was an honored guest. The cynic in me didn’t want to show any emotion, but there was something so enchanting about the way she sang “the wonders of my world”, while images of the Rocky Mountains towered above her, that I just couldn’t help myself. It had been less than ten minutes since she had first appeared and I was already powerless against her charm.

“How many of you did not want to come tonight?”

(only someone with extreme self-confidence would ask that question, so when a few men confirmed, she had the perfect response.)

“Thank you for being a good sport and making my show sold out.”

Speaking as one of those people who don’t listen to Adele’s music on a regular basis, my biggest complaint is the lack of variation across her songs. There is no denying that voice of hers, but I feel like her albums are very vanilla. I do believe her lack of range is by design though. Keeping it safe is what has allowed her to appeal to so many, while offending so few. Last night didn’t exactly change my mind when it came to her songs, but her tremendous personality and sense of humor provided a depth that I wasn’t aware of before. She could have performed the entire concert solo and I would have been entertained. The fact that the screen eventually dropped after “One and Only”, exposing twenty musicians, including a whole crew of extraordinary backup singers, just added to the spectacle.

“My music isn’t that much fun…I hope you knew that.

I do have a couple upbeat ones…

let’s get them out of the way, so we can cry.”

Self-confidence gave way to self-awareness as the crowd came alive for “Rumour Has It” — one of the few songs you could actually dance to. There was a very classic feel to the presentation. The stage was framed in solid light, while Adele’s image projected in black-and-white like some movie star from the 50’s. The stellar band was separated into strings, percussion, and voice; all indispensable to each composition, but also completely anonymous and respectful of who they were there to serve. For a diva, Adele was surprisingly approachable as well. When she asked questions, she made it a point to listen to the answers coming from the front rows. There was a dialogue between her and her fans. When she saw a guy in a purple shirt, passionately singing along, she invited him and his friends on stage to take a selfie.

Hi, my history at the concert is really sad...For months I have tried to reunior the value to tell them..i tell you:

I am Venezuelan, In my country it is very difficult to get money to go to concerts, But adele in mexico was my best opportunity Since I have an uncle living there, So look for money in bank credits and work very hard to get a ticket for the concert and plane to get to mexico on November 15...After a lot of fight and help from incredible people who held out my hand ... I did it Had ticket for the show of November 15, and flew to mexico on November 12 with stopover in panama.

Everything went very well until two days before my trip my boyfriend in a fit of jealousy burned my passport, Yes as I tell them I burn it in a microwave, and there was no way to be able to travel so my dreams were shattered and my bank accounts at zero since the plane tickets were not Refundable and in my country the crisis worsened and it is impossible for me to leave my country now ..

Do not know how much I struggle to go to the show, for me not only is the music of adele she for me is inspiration and admiration for showing that dreams come true so it was very sad for me to lose everything to two days of achieving it.

I regret not having a great story to tell about the show ... sorry for my english I confess to ask the translator for help

I do not know if someone read this, I just know that I finally gathered the courage to be able to tell it .. if I had the opportunity I would try again, no matter if my dream is to go to an adele show, maybe other people have different dreams like knowing Snow, travel to Paris, no matter how big or small the dream or how many people oppose or discourage us, the important thing is not to give up ..

for now I will not be able to reach this dream but I hope I can do it and get up Again until I said I did !!

It is hard to know what to say that hasn't already been said, the list of superlatives has been done and each one is accurate. Adele may be nervous performing live, and there are times where that shows through, but somehow the fact that, arguably, the worlds finest singer shows a vulnerability adds to the performance especially when combined with her self deprecating honesty.

The attention to detail is clear, the fact that she thanks the guy who delivers 'hot honey' by name, thanks the guys who surround the stage during Skyfall and says 'see you all Saturday' shows that she is no Prima Donna artiste, Somehow through a meteoric rise, through all the fame and fortune she still retains that ordinary north London girl wanting to entertain her audience and entertain she does, in spades!

The T Shirts personally signed fired into the crowd, the note left on the back of someone's seat all these acts of kindness make someone's night unforgettable.

However, all of the humour, beautiful touches and adept performance are totally dominated by that voice, that wonderful, utterly unmistakable, beautiful voice which towered over Wembley Stadium and owned the evening. The songs are expertly crafted works of art in their own right and I love them all but if she sang the phone book I would pay to listen.

The highlights for me are predictable, Hello, Skyfall, Feel my Love, Set Fire to the Rain and Someone Like You, all of which were belted out by 100,000 people, these are the spine tingling moments you experience rarely in life. The one song I would still love to hear live is River Lea, lyrically brilliant and one of my all time favourite songs.

If you have never seen Adele perform live you really do need to and this may be your last chance, although I cannot tell you how much I hope it is not!

Having seen Adele previously at the Hammersmith Apollo a few years ago we really wanted to get tickets again, my wife tried for many hours to get tickets for her last tour and when this 4 night tour went on sale she tried again we were successful getting tickets for the Wednesday night, the only problem was she had no choice but to buy the drinking package at £249 each but because we wanted to see her we had no choice but to buy them. We had had an email form Songkick advising us to arrive early for security check which was understandable in the light of recent events, the line to enter was building up when we arrived at 4.30 pm, everyone was waiting for the 5pm opening, 5pm passed and everyone were patient but they did not start letting people in until around 5.20 pm. Eventually we were let in to the Bobby Moore suite to start the evening with a drink, the food choice for the suite was very limited, sushi, salad or hot dog (which were not hot at all), we enjoyed a few glasses of wine before we entered the stadium. Once we got to our seats for the start of the show is when we realised that if we wanted to see anything we should have taken binoculars even though we were only on the second tier to be honest Adele was a dot on the stage. Adele performance was amazing and once again she meet our every expectations she has an brilliant voice and is so down to earth. Paying that kind of money to see her show was worth it just to experience her voice and music, but paying that kind of money for the entry to the Bobbie Moore suite (which was just a function room) was really over priced. We had a fantastic time listening to Adele but the before part was a total waste of money.

Few artists have enjoyed the success over the course of a career spanning several decades that Adele has achieved over the past few years. Escaping the curse of that dreaded second album, ‘21’ propelled Adele into superstardom faster than anyone could have predicted and has broken probably every record that was there to be broken.

Seeing Adele live at the Royal Albert Hall back in 2011 was a really special moment. Clearly overwhelmed by the whirlwind success of the album, she took to the stage with a vulnerability that made her instantly likeable and relatable, whilst still delivering a class A performance.

Chatting to the audience like they were all friends and wanting them to feel like they were watching the gig ‘in their living rooms’, the most special moment of the evening came when the every single member of the 5000 strong audience belted the lyrics to hit single ‘Someone Like You’, leaving a speechless Adele visibly emotional and barely a dry eye in the house.

No big production or special effects were needed, as the beauty of the live arrangements and of those lyrics that made ‘21’ the masterpiece that it is, were enough.

Having publicly admitted that she suffers with severe stage fright, it is probable that we will not witness Adele touring arenas or stadiums. I believe this to be a good thing, as the beauty of her live show could not be appreciated in such big surroundings. Just make sure your one of the few who gets a ticket.

I was waiting ages and hoping Adele would announce a new tour since the 21 tour that i missed for being minutes slow for the tickets.

As the 25 tour was announced my only goal was to get those tickets at any cost! Everything seemed go bad from the start as the page for the ticket pre-sale did not work for me. I had no choice but to divert to viagogo and pay my ass off for two tickets - all my savings were lost... BUT - it definitely WAS WORTH EVERY DIME!

After few hours driving, overnight trip by ship and frustrating times getting to the concert area - We finally really were there.

I did not know what to expect from the show. But what ever it would be, i knew i would love just to see and hear her sing live.

As the show kicked off the feeling was just phenomenal - the emotion was to be hand felt. The show was not rockets, pyros and any fancy stuff... just Adele and smooth graphics and wisely chosen video backgrounds. But what else would it even need - nothing! Because... Adele!

The show kept the audience in it's embrace the whole set. It even made the bond to the audience deeper as she really got involved in person with some of us. She asked a couple fans up on stage and even sang a duet with one!

Anyways - will recommend to go see and hear her live to everyone! Adele is my number one female artist and i would not have missed her live tour again - and am really happy i did not.

Go, see, hear and love Adele!

First, I must say, that show was AMAZING!!!The black & white screen matches her music style perfectly, including the videos playing on.

Let's talk about Adele and her performance. She's a talented singer over the world, of course. Not only she can write and sing such good songs as Hello, When we were young, Send my love, etc., but also she's able to control the live show very well. Her voice, stage style, funny small talk between songs, even the eye contact with each audiences, proves that she can hold this grand show all by herself! That is a two-hour performance without any silence break, except for 3 minutes underground walk from central stage to main stage. It's unbelievable since almost all songs she sang were highly difficult!

She is a kind and responsible singer, also. No matter where you are, you can receive her beautiful smile and shining eyesight during the concert. She can even play jokes nearby the crowd! That must be everybody's good memory! Her humors and straightly personal characters make her so closed with fans. After each song, you may just treat her as a good friend when she talking!

As a VIP, I do think it's valuable to have such good musical listening and watching experience, except for the seat, which is not good enough for a VIP. However, that should be the problem of the hall's condition.

I must say, you should go for at least one Adele's concert in your life!

Our family of 4 daughters, my husband and myself saw Adele on 10/03/17, her first Sydney show. We have loved Adele since we listened to her first album in 2010. As soon as we heard she was coming we knew we had to be there. Even though we were seated very far away from the stage Adele made everyone of the 950000 crowd feel like we were all much closer.

Every moment was fantastic, Adele's phenomenal voice, the amazing video footage of Adele's eyes opening as the show started to the final song of Someone Like You, where the sound of the huge crowd singing in unison with Adele was unlike anything I have ever heard. The circular stage setup was amazing, giving everyone access to seeing Adele. Adele walked the circle giving every part of the stadium a chance to see her. The video footage that played with the songs was beautiful and ensured you kept your eyes on the stage.

The set list was a wonderful collection of Adele's 3 albums. Her interaction with the audience was funny, sincere and she really made us feel like we were right there with her.

I think when you see your daughters crying with the emotion of getting to see Adele live and then more crying because it was even better than you could of dreamed, speaks volumes. I would see her again in a heartbeat if I could and would say to anyone if you can go then do it!

I attended her concert in the biggest venue here in Oslo, Norway – Telenor Arena. It is perhaps mostly known for its lack of acoustic quality. The room is simply put way too big and sterile for that. Nevertheless; The Adele Tour team actually pulled it off this time though, and were able to fill the «dead» space in a more that satisfying manner.

Now, enough said about the venue. To the music: Being the big fan that I am it would be hard to hide my subjective judgement of the performance and music presented by Adele. But with that said I think it is fair to say that she, as a performer, is one of the best there is in the world today. She gives a lot of herself to the audience and often includes random attendees in the most spontaneous ways.

Music wise there is almost nothing to say other than that it is absolutely outstanding. Adele brings such a huge presence with her voice, unlike anyone else in the industry. Even the less “complicated” songs become big and overwhelmingly magnificent.

All in all, you get the feeling that Adele knows how it is to be “on the other side” (had to write that) and therefore she isn’t afraid of posing for a selfie or giving out large amounts of waves to the crowd.

There is no doubt that Adele forever will be remembered as one of the greatest artist of our century.

Adele says she’ll do a world tour for her next album

Despite this, Adele also said she didn't think she'd write another album "for some time"

The artist recently resumed her ‘Weekends With Adele’ Las Vegas residency, which will be running at Caesar’s Palace until June after being extended .

In the middle of the show, Adele revealed that fans will probably have a while to wait before she releases the follow-up to 2021’s ’30’ , but she will tour it more than she has done with albums in the past.

““I just don’t think I’m gonna write an album for quite some time,” she told her audience last night (January 27). “But next time I do, I’ll come to wherever it is you live.”

A few months ago, Adele mentioned that the Vegas residency has helped her “fall back in love with performing live again”.

“I needed to reconnect with my songs and remember what they mean to me, and I have!” Adele wrote on X when it was announced her residency was being extended.

“Being on stage over the last year so up close and personal with an audience again after all these years has been a truly extraordinary restorative experience that I’ll never forget. All the hilarious, soulful, wild and heartbreaking interactions we’ve had are banked in my mind for life. The looks on your faces, seeing you laugh and cry together singing your hearts out and hoarding bags of confetti. All the simi dolls, friendship bracelets, flowers, facetime calls and flags. It’s crazy how joyful a show full of sad songs can be!!”

Adele also recently explained why she has had such large gaps between her albums .

“Sometimes I wonder if people think I’m calculated when I disappear for years on end and I’m elusive and I believe that less is more or something like that,” she said. But the real reason that I’ve only had four albums and I don’t think that many people know this – they know that I have a child – my son is 11 years old. So if you do the math, that means that at the height of ‘21’… I fell pregnant. To many that would be, and it was, considered career suicide.

“It was there and then that I chose to reject the scarcity of success, and the idea that you have to be constantly relevant to be successful,” she continued. “And that perhaps, just maybe, I could be a hit both on and off the stage. And you’ll never guess what — I fucking got away with it!”

How To Get Adele Tickets In 2024

Adele has given fans a reason to set fire to the rain this spring: She’s announced new performance dates for 2024. The 16-time Grammy winner’s Weekends With Adele tour picks up in mid-May for her Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. After that, she travels to Munich, Germany in August for ten shows before finally returning to Vegas for October and November. Here’s everything we know about how to get Adele tickets this year.

Adele is performing a select number of shows in the summer and fall of 2024. Read on to see how to ... [+] get tickets for her tour of Vegas and Munich.

The Best Beach Bags To Tote All Your Summer Essentials In 2024

The 8 best trampolines, with insights from an industry expert, where to buy tickets for “weekends with adele”.

While tickets for the Weekends With Adele tour dates are mostly sold out on direct platforms like Ticketmaster , fans who want to ditch their earbuds and experience Adele live still have a few options to snag tickets on the secondary market. Keep in mind that prices on ticket reselling platforms fluctuate greatly date-to-date, and the cost varies wildly between the Vegas and Munich events.

  • Ticket reseller StubHub has concertgoers covered for all of Adele’s upcoming tour dates in the United States and Europe, with U.S. tickets selling for $700 and up; tickets in Germany start at $100.
  • Prices on Vivid Seats are similar to StubHub, with the Vegas shows starting at around $770 and the Munich shows starting around $100 a ticket.
  • SeatGeek is only offering tickets for Adele’s shows in Las Vegas, with tickets starting at $750. Prices have escalated quickly, though, with Seatgeek warning on its website, “The average price for Adele tickets is around $3,216” and “floor seats for Adele cost around $2,350.”
  • TicketNetwork’s prices for Adele’s Vegas show begin around $1,000 each, and her Munich show tickets start at $120. However, you can save $25 on a purchase of $150 or more using promo code TNTIX25 at checkout.

When Do Adele Tickets Go On Sale?

Tickets are already on sale, so don’t wait too long if you want to see Adele live this year. Many dates—including her re-opening night in Vegas on May 17—are listed on ticket sites as “selling fast.”

Adele announced on Instagram earlier this month that the Vegas concerts in October and November will be shows that had to be rescheduled from March. Ticket holders should expect an email with more information about their new show date.

The singer had to put her Vegas residency on hold during after she fell ill. Being sick took “a toll on [her] voice,” she shared in a statement, as reported by Deadline .

Of course, if you don’t yet have a seat at one of those shows, you can still purchase tickets for the October and November dates; they are not exclusively for fans who are being rescheduled.

How Much Are Adele Tickets?

It should go without saying that as with all live performances, ticket prices vary by venue and the seat’s proximity to the stage. For this tour, Adele is limiting her performances to just two stages: The Colosseum at Caesars Palace for her Las Vegas residency and The Open Air Arena at Messe München in Munich, Germany.

On average, you’ll need to spend significantly more money on tickets for the Vegas show than on the Munich gigs. The lowest prices at the Messe München clock in less than $150, while Vegas tickets start around $700 (with some tickets selling for as much as $6,000).

It’s also important to remember that ticketing sites typically charge additional fees that aren’t included in the original price of the ticket but instead are added at checkout.

Adele

Adele , master of the slow reveal, has unveiled what appear to be the first two dates of the tour in support of her forthcoming album “30” — and they’re a blockbuster: two nights in London’s Hyde Park next summer, the sprawling green in the middle of her hometown that has hosted concerts by everyone from the Rolling Stones and Queen to Elton John and Blur.

Adele announced the dates, which are scheduled for July 1 and 2, 2022, on social media early Tuesday.

Oiii Oiiiiiiiiiiiii♥️ Pre sale at https://t.co/hbsotis7lr pic.twitter.com/HBSmDereSv — Adele (@Adele) October 26, 2021

She announced earlier this month in a lengthy Instagram post that her long-awaited ‘30’ album will be released on Nov. 19. The first single, “Easy on Me,” dropped earlier this month.

In the post, she writes: “I was certainly nowhere near where I’d hoped to be when I first started it nearly
3 years ago. Quite the opposite actually. I rely on routine and consistency to feel
safe, I always have. And yet there I was knowingly – willingly even, throwing
myself into a maze of absolute mess and inner turmoil!
I’ve learned a lot of blistering home truths about myself along the way. I’ve shed
many layers but also wrapped myself in new ones. Discovered genuinely useful
and wholesome mentalities to lead with, and I feel like I’ve finally found my
feeling again. I’d go as far as to say that I’ve never felt more peaceful in my life.

The album finds the singer working again with Greg Kurstin — who paired famously well with her on “25” — and Max Martin, Inflo (known for his work with Sault) and Swedish composer and producer Ludwig Göransson, who won an Academy Award for his “Black Panther” score and has worked closely with Childish Gambino. There are no featured guests on the record.

Adele sings in front of Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles during a televised concert to promote her fourth album, 30 , which chronicles the aftermath of her divorce in ways that take subtle chances with the star's signature cathartic style.

Watching the cozily epic concert segments of Adele's album-launching Oprah special Sunday evening, I couldn't help thinking she'd gifted reviewers with a metaphor. She stood on the steps of the Griffith Observatory in a gown that enclosed her shoulders like a black cirrus cloud, glittering Saturn-shaped baubles dangling from her ears. A tattoo of the orb with her current home, Los Angeles, at its center graced the forearm holding her microphone. In interviews, Adele has mentioned astrological reasons for this imagery — the tumultuous Saturn return that occurs at the cusp of turning 30 — but it says something about her status in the pop world, too. With her massive voice, unique charisma and enduring hit-making power, Adele is not just another star, but her own planet. Her movements shift the very tides of pop.

Can a planet come down to earth? That's the question Adele asks in her fourth studio release, 30 , a chronicle of divorce and soul-searching recovery that is, more crucially, a thrilling redefinition of Adele's artistry. She hasn't abandoned her reliable templates — there's a dance-floor stomper, "Oh My God," that will please fans of "Rolling In the Deep," and more than one epic ballad built to unfurl stormily through a concert hall. But while Adele earned adulation for evoking, in listeners, the sense of being enveloped in emotion, on 30 she offers a more varied experience. It's a shift that's sometimes subtle, evident in lyrics that make more room for both self-criticism and a sense of perspective, and in the way she responds to the rhythms and background voices within each song instead of merely powering forward. She's in command, but taking chances. "Complacency is the worst trait to have, are you crazy?" she sings over a beat that bears the perfume of lovers rock on "Woman Like Me," one of several tracks produced by Inflo, the producer behind the U.K. R&B collective Sault . She's dressing down a potential new lover who's disappointed her, but she could be offering a motto for her thirtysomething self.

Adele's stance throughout 30 is one of engagement — with her own inner struggles, with the new world that opens up as she leaves a marriage and with the musical milieu that has emerged since 25 came out in 2015. Adele has, it seems, been listening to young contenders on both sides of the Atlantic, from London sensations Celeste and Cleo Sol to American R&B standard-bearer Jazmine Sullivan. Her ability to modulate her voice has grown and balanced out her sheer power, and she engages it to try different methods of phrasing, to quiet down in the way many vibe-seeking chanteuses do now. That's a risky move, but Adele remains self-aware. The storyteller who once strummed in London's Brockwell Park with friends returns in those moments to balance out her experiments with the salt of her essential plainspokenness, the quality that has always made Adele herself.

"Mama's got a lot to learn," she murmurs in the chorus of "My Little Love," a hip-hop pastiche and the most experimental track on 30 , which incorporates phone voice notes of conversations about loss and safety between the newly single mom and son Angelo . The song is a mood tracker, but that lyric also serves as an admission of the challenge Adele faces as a white woman who, like nearly every white musician, remains hugely indebted to Black progenitors.

Adele became one of the century's most beloved singers by cultivating a space beyond musical trends, grounded in a mobile retro-pop sound that borrowed equally from the soul-driven 1960s, the blockbuster 1980s and the timeless practice of untethering big ballads from any context whatsoever. She stood on this surface and, sharing tales of heartache, made it a sanctuary, but as long as she stayed there it could often feel like she was in musical dialogue with nothing and no one. 30 , on the other hand, engages with the world — through lyrics that trade adolescent romanticism for genuine self-examination, arrangements that reflect the present moment, and a vocal presence as warm and multifaceted as Adele is in interviews and her onstage patter, where she's a pal who tells long stories and makes jokes, not a gravitational force.

The third decade of the 21st century is not a time of big voices. It's tempting to view Adele as the last of something, but her genius is in confusing scale, in translating her grandeur into relatability. Adele may stand alone in the pop universe, but when you, the listener, are immersed in her music, she stands alone with you . This ability to connect as a feelingful person, to be a friendly planet, has always been as important as the sublimity of her voice. That gift hasn't faded; she can still animate a strictly emblematic chorus like, "Hold on, you are still strong, love will still come," with the lifeblood of spontaneity.

Several elements merge to make this Adele's most musically interesting and conceptually rich work. The starting point is that better-trained voice, which at times sounds like an entirely new instrument. Years of care following an early-career vocal cord injury have led her to explore registers beyond her reliable gut, and she's become more intuitive, conversational and in touch with the grooves and dancebeats her producers craft for her. Those collaborators take up the challenge Adele posed for herself by writing songs that dwell on complicated and sometimes even ugly feelings — the guilt she feels at breaking up her family and her distress at trying to explain divorce to her son, the alternating excitement and fear as she finds herself unpartnered for the first time in her adult life — and don't automatically reach for the catharsis of big notes that won her international devotion. Don't worry, swoon junkies, those notes still hit sometimes. But Adele is more likely to trade them in for a funky breakbeat, as she does on "Can I Get It," or the gentle push and pull of those gliding "E"s on the album's first single , "Easy On Me."

Fans determined to weep their way through 30 as they have with Adele's previous albums may be disappointed. This chronicle of separation does not aggressively serve up heartbreak. Though the publicity campaign has presented the album as a reflection of pain and anxiety after Adele's split from her partner of 10 years, Simon Konecki, its spirit is one of musical play: the singer trying out different tones and techniques, from the jazz standards-inspired opener, "Strangers By Nature" (with its immortally campy first line, "I'll be taking flowers to the cemetery of my heart") to the loose, Honky Chateau -era Eltonisms of "I Drink Wine" and the sinuous flow of the delightedly sensual "All Night Parking," which kicks off with a light-handed sample from the late Pittsburgh jazz great Erroll Garner and transforms it into a sample around which Adele wraps a vocal as light as twilight air.

The free musical mood of 30 correlates with the story it tells, of a breakup that's more complicated than the ones Adele immortalized in high Romantic ballads like "Hello." In her Oprah interview, Adele made it clear that she was the instigator of her divorce, not because Konecki, who remains a "best friend," was abusive or neglectful but because she felt herself growing beyond the relationship. She chose to break up the home for which she'd longed as a child of divorce, and hazard her son's pain, in the name of greater ultimate happiness for everyone involved. This most common kind of split engenders emotions that her adored songs of contemplative romantic desolation, like "Hello" or "Someone Like You," don't quite serve: the shame of being the heartbreaker, the doubt that comes with loneliness, the need to find a way through ambiguity toward inner strength.

"Cry your heart out, it'll clean your face," an auto-tuned phalanx of voices advises Adele in "Cry Your Heart Out" as she details her daily stumbles. "When you're in doubt, go at your own pace." Adele answers this Motown-style Greek chorus with lighthearted crankiness: "Please stop calling me, it's exhausting," she sighs. But she owns her mess. "I created this storm, it's only fair I have to sit in its rain," she sings, adding a little vocal run to boost her own self-confidence. It's not "Love on Top," but she's getting there.

The arrangement of "Cry Your Heart Out" tricks out the template of the girl group sound in a new way, as have many other savvy miners of R&B history, from the Pointer Sisters to Lauryn Hill and Adele's standard-bearer, Beyonce. Adele has never truly orbited alone through pop's omniverse — she began her career within a group of fusion-oriented singer-songwriters including Estelle, Rumer, Duffy and Corinne Bailey Rae, and now she's connecting with a new wave of jazz-soul artists like Celeste and Sault (and perhaps finally nodding musically to her "best friend," Drake). And always, she's thinking of Queen Bey.

Longtime collaborators like Max Martin, Tobias Jesso, Jr. and Greg Kurstin accommodate these alignments with varying degrees of subtlety; Kurstin co-wrote and produced "My Little Love," and was seemingly inspired by similar spoken interludes on both Sullivan's Heaux Tales and Sault's Nine . Most telling, however, is her new partnership with Inflo, who helms three tracks, including the gospelized show-stopper "Hold On." That production's slow crescendo from a misty beginning, with its choir in the distance, to the familiar monumentalism of an Adele barn-burner does something to the form. It makes the song feel more connected to everything in music that made it possible, building a world around it.

'You Can't Prepare Yourself': A Conversation With Adele

Music Interviews

'you can't prepare yourself': a conversation with adele.

Another important musical work whose makers built a world around it, of course, is Beyonce's Lemonade , the masterwork that Adele's last album defeated at the Grammys in 2017 , much to the horror of most intelligent music fans, including the planetary voice herself . It's tempting to identify 30 as Adele's own version of that inimitable expression of heartache and resolve, but such comparisons can only go so far. Lemonade engaged history in a way that 30 , whose triumphs are stylistic and aesthetic but not political, cannot. It spoke for a community, a "we," in a way that Adele, I think, would not strive to emulate. In fact, one of the strengths of 30 is its grounding in unmistakably personal details, both sonic and lyrical. Adele still gravitates toward expertly rendered big flourishes — the couplet that grounds "Hold On," "May time be patient / may pain be gracious," is one of her best — but she is also learning that it can be fruitful to go small in a song, to write or sing something that puts aside the universal for the delicate, the offhand, the small gamble. 30 still offers many ways for Adele to be our planet, high in the sky, making us marvel. But it's best when she touches down.

Correction Nov. 17, 2021

A previous version of this story mistakenly said Adele's album 25 came out in 2016. It was released in 2015.

Last month, Adele shared her tour announcement via Twitter, however at the time she did not specify whether she'd be jumping the pond to tour in North America. "Hello, it's me," Adele said in front of a map in a video posted to Facebook Nov. 26. "I have been bluffing this whole time, and I am so relieved to finally tell you that I am, of course, coming on tour and I can't wait to see all of you there. So see you all very, very soon!"

The singer then tweeted a link on Monday morning to new tour dates listed on her website throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico, writing, "and of course," with an heart-faced emoji.

Adele shares tour plans with fans

Adele has revealed she will embark on a world tour when her next album is released.

The 35-year-old singer is currently busy with her Weekends With Adele residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. During her show on Saturday she thrilled the audience by hinting at fresh plans to hit the road.

Adele admitted fans would have to wait a while for a follow-up to her hit 2021 album 30 but promised to tour it more than her previous releases.

"I just don't think I'm gonna write an album for quite some time," she told the excited audience. "But next time I do, I'll come to wherever it is you live."

The revelation comes shortly after the Hello singer admitted her Weekends With Adele residency had "changed" her life and given her a new passion for performing live.

"It's just made me realize how much I really enjoy being on stage, that I'm bloody good at it and that it is 100% where I belong!" the star recently wrote on Instagram.

She also sparked hopes of a tour when she signed off the message with, "Love you and I'll see you on the other side soon."

Adele's successful Las Vegas residency is scheduled to finish on 15 June.

Fans are following Taylor Swift to Europe after finding Eras Tour tickets less costly there

Thousands of Taylor Swift fans are following her across the pond after missing out on her U.S. concert tour last year or being put off by marked-up ticket prices.

LONDON (AP) — Thousands of ride-or-die Taylor Swift fans who missed out on her U.S. concert tour last year or didn’t want to buy exorbitantly priced tickets to see her again found an out-of-the-way solution: Fly to Europe.

The pop star is scheduled to kick off the 18-city Europe leg of her record-setting Eras Tour in Paris on Thursday, and planeloads of Swifties plan to follow Miss Americana across the pond in the coming weeks. The arena where Swift is appearing said Americans bought 20% of the tickets for her four sold-out shows. Stockholm, the tour’s next stop, expects about 10,000 concertgoers from the U.S.

A concert might sound like an odd raison d’etre for visiting a foreign country, especially when fans can watch the Eras Tour from home via the documentary now streaming on Disney+. Yet online travel company Expedia says continent-hopping by Swift’s devotees is part of a larger trend it dubbed “tour tourism” while observing a pattern that emerged during Beyoncé's Renaissance world tour .

Some North American fans who plan to fly overseas for the Eras Tour said they justified the expense after noticing that tighter restrictions on ticket fees and resales in Europe made seeing Swift perform abroad no more costly — and potentially cheaper — than catching her closer to home .

“They said, ’Wait a minute, I can either spend $1,500 to go see my favorite artist in Miami, or I can take that $1,500 and buy a concert ticket, a round-trip plane ticket, and three nights in a hotel room,” Melanie Fish, an Expedia spokesperson and travel expert, said.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz beams while holding up the so-called Taylor Swift bill he signed into law as lawmakers, First Avenue employees and online ticket buyers clap Tuesday, May 7, 2024, inside the First Avenue concert venue in Minneapolis. The law, prompted by the frustration a legislator felt at not being able to buy tickets to Swift's 2023 concert in Minneapolis, will require ticket sellers to disclose all fees up front and prohibit resellers from selling more than one copy of a ticket for live events held in Minnesota, among other measures. (AP Photo/Trisha Ahmed)

That was the experience of Jennifer Warren, 43, who lives in St. Catharines, a city in the Niagara region of Ontario. She and her 11-year-old son love Swift but had no luck scoring what she considered as decently priced tickets in the U.S. Undeterred, Warren and her husband decided to plan a European vacation around wherever she managed to get seats. It turned out to be Hamburg, Germany.

AP AUDIO: Fans are following Taylor Swift to Europe after finding Eras Tour tickets less costly there

AP correspondent Jennifer King reports Taylor Swift is heading to Europe, and her U.S. fans are following.

“You get out, you get to see the world, and you get to see your favorite artist or performer at the same time, so there are a lot of wins to it,” said Warren, who works as the director of research and innovation for a mutual insurance company.

The three VIP tickets she secured close to the stage — “I would call it brute-force dumb luck” — cost 600 euros ($646) each. Swift subsequently announced six November tour dates in Toronto, within driving distance of Warren’s home. “Absolute nose-bleed seats” already are going for 3,000 Canadian dollars ($2,194) on secondary resale sites like Viagogo, Warren said.

TOUR TOURISM: IS IT REALLY A THING?

Hard-core fans trailing their favorite singer or band on tour is not a new phenomenon. “Groupie” emerged in the late 1960s as a somewhat derogatory word for the ardent followers of rock bands. Deadheads took to the road in the 1970s to pursue the Grateful Dead from city to city.

More recently, music festivals like California’s Coachella and England’s Glastonbury, and concert residencies in Las Vegas by the likes of Elton John, Lady Gaga and Adele, have attracted travelers to places they wouldn’t otherwise visit, Fish noted.

Travel and entertainment analysts have also spoken of a pent-up consumer demand for “experiences” over material objects since the coronavirus pandemic. Some think the willingness of music lovers to broaden their fandom horizons is part of the same mass cultural correction.

“It does seem like it’s more than a structural shift, maybe a personality transformation we all went through,” said Natalia Lechmanova, the chief Europe economist for the Mastercard Economics Institute.

As Swift hopscotches across Europe, Lechmanova expects restaurants and hotels to see the same boost that Mastercard observed within a 2.5-mile (4-kilometer) radius of concert venues in the U.S. cities she visited in 2023. The U.S. dollar’s strong value against the euro may also increase retail spending on apparel, memorabilia, beauty products and supplies for the friendship bracelets fans exchange as part of the Eras Tour experience, the economist said.

Former college roommates Lizzy Hale, 34, who lives in Los Angeles, and Mitch Goulding, 33, who lives in Austin, Texas, already had tickets to see the Eras Tour in L.A. last summer when they decided to try to get ones for Paris, London or Edinburgh, Scotland, too. They saw a Europe concert trip as a makeup for travel plans they had in May 2020 to celebrate Goulding’s birthday but had to cancel due to the pandemic.

Goulding managed to secure VIP tickets for one of Swift’s three Stockholm shows. He, Hale and two other friends scheduled a 10-day trip that also includes time in Amsterdam and Copenhagen.

“As people who enjoy traveling and enjoy music, if you can find an opportunity to combine the two, it’s really special,” said Hale, who is pregnant with her first child.

FOR STOCKHOLM, 120,000 SWIFTIES CAN’T BE WRONG

The local economic impact of what the zeitgeist has termed “Swiftonomics” and the “Swift lift” can be considerable . It’s no wonder the exclusive arrangement Singapore’s government made with Swift to make the city-state her only tour stop in Southeast Asia earlier this year aroused regional jealousy .

No European governments have complained of their countries not being among the dozen selected for the Europe leg of the Eras Tour, although some fans have expressed surprise that Gelsenkirchen, a city with a population of about 264,000 is one of the three cities in Germany that made the cut.

Airbnb reported Tuesday that searches on its platform for the U.K. cities where Swift is performing in June and August — Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff and London — increased an average of 337% when tickets went on sale last summer.

Not to be outdone when it comes to trend-spotting, the property rentals company cited the demand as an example of “passion tourism,” or travel “driven by concerts, sports and other cultural events.”

In Stockholm , 120,000 out-of-towners from 130 countries -- among them 10,000 from the U.S. — are expected to swarm Sweden’s capital this month, Stockholm Chamber of Commerce Chief Economist Carl Bergqvist said. Stockholm is the only Scandinavian city on Swift’s tour, and airlines added extra flights from nearby Denmark, Finland and Norway to bring people to the May 17-19 shows, he said.

The city’s 40,000 hotel rooms are sold out even though prices skyrocketed for the tour dates, Bergqvist said. Concert visitors are expected to pump around 500 million Swedish kroner, or over $46 million, into the local economy over the course of their stays, an estimate that does not include what they paid for Swift tickets or to get to Sweden, he said.

“So this is going to be huge for the tourism sector in Sweden and Stockholm in particular,” Bergqvist said.

Nightclubs, restaurants and bars are seizing the opportunity to cater to fans with Taylor Swift-themed events, such as karaoke, quizzes and after-concert dance parties.

Houston resident Caroline Matlock, 29, saw Swift more than a year ago when the Eras Tour came to the Texas city. Now she’s making more friendship bracelets and trying to learn a few words of Swedish as she prepares to see the 3 1/2-hour show in Stockholm. The idea of seeing Swift in Europe was her friend’s, and Matlock needed some persuading at first.

“I was like, ‘I only want to go if it’s a country I haven’t been to. I’ve seen Taylor Swift,’” she said.

Visiting the Scandinavian cities of Oslo and Gothenburg is on their itinerary. The concert is the last night of the trip and Matlock looks forward to interacting with Swifties from other countries: “Americans tend to have a very obsessive culture, especially Taylor Swift-related, so I’m curious if the crowd will be more toned-down.”

WILL TOUR TOURISM ENDURE AFTER ERAS?

It remains to be seen if the music tourism trend has legs as long and strong as Swift’s and Beyoncé's, and if it will carry over to Billie Eilish, Usher and other artists with world tours scheduled next year. Expedia’s Fish thinks other big-name artists in Europe this summer will prove that booking a foreign trip around a concert is catching on.

Kat Morga, a travel consultant based in Nashville, isn’t so sure. Morga saw Swift perform in Nashville last year and helped two clients with school-aged children book European family vacations this summer that include seeing Swift in concert. But she thinks the difficulty of navigating ticket purchases through language barriers, currency conversions, international banking regulations and the risk of cancellations will limit the appeal of regular gig getaways.

“I think this is an anomaly,” Morga said. “People aren’t typically going to build their $20,000 huge family vacation only because Taylor Swift is there. She’s the one-off. She’s special.”

Booking Holdings CEO Glenn Fogel, whose company operates Booking.com, priceline.com, agoda.com, Kayak and OpenTable, is even less enthusiastic about concert tours as a tourism instigator. The Swift Effect causes a “little blip” when the superstar goes to smaller destinations, but for the worldwide travel industry, “one star touring around does not make a difference,” he said.

“It may just shift it a little bit. A person was going to go to the Caribbean for a week vacation. Instead that person (says), ‘Let’s travel to the Taylor Swift thing,’” Fogel said. “It doesn’t increase it. It just moves it from here to there.”

AP journalists Colleen Barry in Milan, Chisato Tanaka in Stockholm, Anne D’Innocenzio in New York, David Koenig in Dallas, Thomas Adamson in Paris and Brian Melley in London contributed reporting.
