A ‘Safari’ Nike Air Max 1 Will be Sold Exclusively at Size?

Size? announced at the top of the month that it would exclusively stock a pair of “Safari” looks, initially revealing the Air Max 95 of the two-shoe pack. And today, the U.K.-based retailer revealed the second style — an Air Max 1.

The colorway, according to Size?, is a nod to the Air Safari sneaker that legendary designer Tinker Hatfield created for Nike in 1987.

The Air Max 1 is executed with black, gray and carrot orange hues on the upper, sitting atop a white midsole and a carrot orange and black outsole. The Nike Air branding on the heels, Nike Air Max tag on the tongue and Swoosh logo at the forefoot are all executed in carrot orange. According to Size?, the gray speckled pattern on the upper — reminiscent of premium Ostrich skin — was inspired by a luxury sofa store Hatfield visited during his early design years.

The Nike Air Max 1 “Safari” arrives on June 15 exclusively via the Size? Previews app and in all of its doors. The sneaker will retail for £120 (roughly $160).

The retailer still has pairs of the Air Max 95 “Safari” in stock online via Size.co.uk, which released June 8, with a £130 (roughly $174) price tag.

1. About Nike Air Max 1 “Safari”

In 1987, Nike legend Tinker Hatfield introduced the “Air Pack” featuring three types of Nike Air. This year, the “Air Max 1” which was born from that trio celebrates its 35th anniversary. Sneakerheads worldwide are anticipating a variety of new Air Max designs, and so far Nike has delivered.

Now, an AM1 using the “Safari” pattern has been added to the lineup. This pattern has been carried over from the legendary 2002 atmos x Air Max 1 “Safari”, the first official Air Max 1 collaboration that has been coveted and sought after by sneakerheads for a decade. With the new AM1 “Safari”, Nike delivers a nostalgic nod to old-timer sneakerheads, while mixing up the design with new elements for a sense of novelty.

A legendary model returns to us via one of the most recognizable names in the sneaker retail game. UK retailer Size? gives fans another chance to get their hands on the iconic Nike Air Max 1 Safari. Like much of what Nike puts out, this model is about cultural significance.

The Safari print on this sneaker sees roots in another shoe, the Air Safari .

Just before going into the 1990s, Nike is on quite the roll. Tinker Hatfield is just getting going on what promises to be a legendary tenure. The Air Max 1, debuting in 1987, blisters through the footwear world. It witnesses celebrations – and sell-outs – for technical design as well as its wider consumer approval.

At this time, you can imagine it’s difficult just to stay the course let alone to keep it moving. But, the aptly named Tinker just can’t help himself. He’s a wanderer and an observer. This combination of traits leads him to come up with all sorts of memorable heat.

It’s that same personal approach that helps him turn an afternoon stroll into a new idea. Long story short: Tinker finds himself in a luxury furniture store in NYC. After fascinating over a couch with what looks like ostrich print on it, he is asked to leave. Yet, he leaves the place with a new idea to obsess over.

And thus, we get the Air Safari. It’s the first use of that legendary print and shows itself again on this latest drop. This Nike Air Max 1 Safari, the latest exclusive from the crew over at Size? is dripping with class. Apart from the mesh base, the Safari print is all over this iteration, seamlessly bringing together elements of Black, Grey, and Orange on a premium upper.

Size? Debuts Part Two Of Their Nike “Safari” Pack with the Air Max 1

Fresh off the heels of their Nike Air Max 95 “Safari” release, UK retailer Size? has officially unveiled the next part in their collaborative series. After early leaked images last week, we now have a close look at the Air Max 1 “Safari”. Decked out in Tinker Hatfield’s infamous ostrich-inspired camouflage, the new colorway is the perfect blend of original looks and modern color blocking. The Size? Air Max 1 begins with a solid orange mesh upper. Next, the central layerings come in grey with dark speckling while the leather layer above the midsole comes in black with light grey speckles. Finally, the main Swoosh on the upper is painted black, while the Nike Air branding finishes the shoe in bold orange.

The next installment of the Size? x Nike Air Max “Safari” series will release on Friday, June 15th. size? Adds to "Safari" Pack With Nike Air Max 1 Release

Celebrating tinker hatfield’s 1987 designs..

After revealing the “Safari” Air Max 95 earlier this month, British footwear retailer s ize? has now unveiled the second part of its animal print pack with Nike . Transferring the design to the Air Max 1 , the new release is a nod to  Tinker Hatfield , who designed both the Air Max 1 silhouette and the Air Safari back in 1987.

The sneaker comes in the same colorway as the Air Max 95, with black safari print used on the mudguard and Swoosh, as well as a grey safari print across the heel, midfoot and lacing system. These muted tones are offset by the use of vibrant orange mesh, which features on the toebox and heel collar. Lastly, the Air Max 1 comes with a white midsole and an orange-and-black outsole. The exclusive sneaker will drop at the size? web store , app and physical locations on June 15.

The Nike Air Max 1 receives a paint-up with muted dark, earthier tones, as a nod to the colour cards of the ‘Considered’ era. Mixed materials of suede, leather and textile combine on the upper for a textural variety.
