The Azores, or an autonomous Region of Portugal, is an  archipelago of nine islands stretching almost 600 kilometers in the  Atlantic Ocean, about 1500 kilometers from the coast of Portugal.

It is divided into 3 major parts: central with islands of Faial,  Pico, Sãn Jorge, Terceira and Graciosa, eastern, that includes Sãn  Miguel, Santa Maria and western – Floresh, Corvo. This beautiful  archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean attracts enthusiasts of yacht charter  from all the world. Even if you have already been to Azores yacht  charter will give you new perspective and new vision of this wonderful  place.

Azores culture

The historical and cultural heritage of this archipelago can be  found in its ancient churches and monasteries. If you want to get  acquainted with the culture of the Azores, you should visit the town of  Madalena located on the island of Pico, here you can visit wine museum  and famous ancient Santa Maria Madalena church. In Sao Ruca, explore the  Sao Roque church and the monastery of Sao Pedro de Alcantra. If you  travel to Lajes, don’t miss museum “Baleeiros” that will tell you the  story of whaling craft flourished on the island in the past. Learn more  about whalers, their lives and canoes they used for whaling.

You can do yachting in Azores all year round. Sailing in the  regions you may meet not only small yachts and sailboats but also number  of large international ships that travel from Europe to America and  back. The Azores have maritime subtropical climate on all the islands.  Located on the same latitude as Mediterranean countries they have  temperatures much milder throughout the year because of the influence of  the Atlantic Ocean. Although the weather in the Azores is rather  unstable temperatures during the year are rather moderate, air  temperature during the winter rarely drops below 8C / 48F and rarely  reach more than 30C / 86F during summer.

Where to sail

Where to sail

Experienced sailors know that if you dream about great sailing  time, Azores yacht charter is the right choice for you. Almost every  part of this sailing area will give you some unforgettable emotions.  While planning your next yacht charter, we advise you to visit central  group of the Azores, that includes: Faial – a very young island, and  very famous destinations among sailors all over the world, São Jorge –  wild and beautiful place famous for its stunning nature, Terceira – also  called “Lilac Island” due to its unique nature (central territory of  the island is a national reserve park), Pico island also called “Black  Island” that can boast number of attractions for all kind of travelers.

What else, some people believe that Azores are the mountain tops of  the former Atlantis. But what we know for sure is that all islands have  volcanic origin, and almost every island has dozens of active and  sleeping volcanoes, that make this place so beautiful and unique.

You can chose between going into the ports or marinas and exploring the islands or staying out for a beautiful night sail under the bright stars in a fluorescent sea, caused by bioluminescent algae. Every movement of the boat leaves a glittering trail of small stars in the water, Dolphins coming up to the boat seem to be swimming in long shining pipes. Island hopping on the Azores is very pleasant sailing. You can see the next island when you take off in the morning. However, just a few miles off the islands you are in the deep sea, 2000-4000m depths are normal. After a beautiful days cruise you arrive on a new island to explore. For those who would like a longer trip or need mileage for their Yacht Master License there is the option of a cruise from San Miguel to Madeira (4-5 days), back to Santa Maria (4-5 days) and then San Miguel, altogether 1000 sea miles of mainly Bluewater Sailing.

Yes, there are whales to be seen, and the right expression for what we offer is sea watching; whales, birds, dolphins, turtles, bonitos and sunfish. Whale hunting from small wooden sailing boats has a long tradition on the Azores due to the great variety of whales around the islands. Commercial whale hunting ended in 1966, however, you can still find the traditional whaling boats around the islands, now used for leisure. You can often say hello to dolphins coming up to the boat for a visit. Tuna and bonitos sometimes follow the boat for days on end. In calm conditions you can go for a swim from the boat. A strange feeling, swimming in the ocean, knowing there are several thousand meters of water below you. The water temperatures rise to about 23°C in July and 24°-25° in August, with air temperatures around 25°-27° thanks to the Gulf Stream. There is no better and relaxed way to get to know a bit about sailing and the sea.

Trip Itinerary

Good to know

The best way to reach the Azores is by plane. In addition to the increasing number of direct flights offered by companies such as TAP (Portuguese Official Airline) and SATA (Azorean Official Airline) from the main European cities, getting to the Azores has never been so easy: you just need to reach Lisbon or Porto to have frequent connections with the town of Ponta Delgada (Island of São Miguel) and Horta (Island of Faial). If you wish to make a stopover in the Island of São Miguel, you will then need to take an internal flight São Miguel – Faial. Horta airport is only 10 km from Horta Marina. A taxi takes about 10 minutes or we can arrange a mini bus transfer on request, the cost is around 20 Euros.

The Azores have a maritime subtropical, mild climate accross all islands. The main characteristic of the azorean weather is its unpredictability: it can be sunny and hot, windy and strong showers – all in the same day! Clouds and rain are a possibility any time of the year, although the summer months have longer periods of sunshine and higher temperatures. The average air temperature ranges between 13.6°C (minimum) and 22°C (maximum) throughout the whole year. But the humidity can be considerably high, so it can feel like a lot hotter.

15 EUR / bottle

Bringing practical clothing for all kinds of weather and activities is key to a comfortable trip, you’ll want to bring some wind-proof, quick-drying, athletic clothing. Have a bathing suit and towel with you. You never know when you’ll stumble upon a hot spring, or a perfect black-sand beach, or a crater lake. Have comfortable sneakers or hiking shoes, a light wind-proof jacket and a warm sweater. The weather changes dramatically on different parts of the island and as you move up and down in elevation. It can be chilly, rainy and/or windy at times, so keeping layers handy is a good idea.

Sailing in the Azores: Things You Should Know

Sailboats sailing in the Azores

The first thing to know about sailing in the Azores, is that the Azores are a great sailing destination!

I didn’t expect that to be honest.

As for many other sailors, the Azores were only a stop on our sail from the Caribbean to Europe.

We were planning to stay maybe 2 weeks to rest and fix whatever would break while crossing the Atlantic, and then move on to where we really wanted to go: the Mediterranean.

But, we ended up sailing in the Azores much longer than that and loved every minute of it.

Its stunning volcanic islands, vibrantly green hills, hot springs, waterfalls, whale watching, friendly people, and delicious local cheese and wine only sum up part of what these islands have to offer.

And that’s why in this article I want to share with you both what makes the Azores a great sailing destination, and practical tips for sailing here.

Things to Know About Sailing in the Azores

1. the islands.

One of the islands in the Azores

There are 9 islands in the Azores, all with their unique charm.

Horta, the main town in Faial, is the go-to destination for sailors coming from the Caribbean or the US.

Ponta Delgada, the capital of the Azores, on the island of Sao Miguel, is the go-to destination for sailors coming from Europe.

The other Azorean islands receive fewer sailors and are beautiful, more unspoiled options to visit.

These unique islands are known as one of the best sailing destinations in Portugal, and I couldn’t agree more!

2. Clearing In & Out

looking at my sailboat anchored in the Azores

When sailing in the Azores you have to clear in and out at every island.

That may sound annoying, but thankfully the process is quick and the people are generally very friendly.

After you’ve cleared in on the first island you’re in their database which speeds up clearing in and out in subsequent islands even more.

You don’t need a sailing permit in the Azores and there are no costs associated with clearing in or out.

The marina in Ponta Delgada

There is a marina on every island but Corvo. And there is one central website where you can find information about each marina: Portosdosacores.pt

Marinas are inexpensive, compared to most of Europe, the Caribbean and the US.

The marinas differ a lot in size. Ponta Delgada is the largest marina and will generally have space available.

The marina in Flores is so small that it’s recommended not to rely on them ever having space.

You can’t normally make reservations in advance which makes it a little tricky, as anchoring isn’t always a great option.

In my opinion, it’s worth contacting the marina you want to go to shortly before arriving, just to check if they have space.

If you’re sailing in the Azores in high season on a catamaran it can be difficult to get a spot in most marinas. Monohulls are generally fine, but you might have to tie up to a wall or raft up.

4. Anchoring

Catamaran anchored off of Vila Franca Islet

There aren’t a lot of good anchorages in the Azores.

Plus, the unpredictable weather in the Azores means you cannot leave a boat at anchor unattended for long and you might have to move as the weather changes.

The anchorage in Horta is a bit of an exception here. It’s actually very well protected.

Also, anchoring isn’t free everywhere in the Azores.

We paid 50% of the marina rate to anchor in Horta and in Velas (on the island of Sao Jorge).

5. Tides, Currents & Sailing Conditions

Sailing against the current in the Azores

If you’re coming from the Caribbean, where there are no tides, then keep in mind that in the Azores there are.

But if you sailed to the Azores from Portugal you’ve most likely experienced higher tides there than you will here.

You’ll notice some current while sailing in the Azores, but it’s generally well below 1 knot.

Due to the position and geography of the Azores ground swells are also common in the Azores.

Sailing along the islands’ cliffs and mountains brings unstable and unpredictable winds, together with fogs, showers, and changing currents.

Flores and Corvo, the westernmost islands, are the most challenging to sail. They are the most exposed to passing storms, often enduring the worst winds and swell.

6. The Weather

A quiet street in Velas

If you are looking for sunny, cloudless weather to spend your days on beautiful sandy beaches, the Azores might not be for you.

The main thing you need to know about the weather in the Azores is that it’s unpredictable.

A day might start windy and rainy, then turn hot and sunny, to cool down again in the evening.

You can encounter several days of gray skies while sailing here. And fog and drizzly rain are common.

But, if, like us, you’ve sailed here from the Caribbean, this might be a welcome change.

I loved the cooler temperatures. The weather in summer is generally very pleasant with warm days and cooler nights.

Although the islands are located at similar latitudes as the Mediterranean, the temperatures here are much milder. Temperatures in summer rarely go above 30ºC / 86ºF and in winter it rarely drops below 7ºC / 45ºF.

7. The People

A cheese shop in the Azores

The locals are friendly and generally speak English well.

This makes it easy to get to know locals and has definitely made our time sailing in the Azores a lot more enjoyable!

Marina staff tends to be very helpful and a great starting point to get information about what to see and do on each island.

Learning a few words of Portuguese is of course helpful and very much appreciated by the locals.

The Azores are a very safe destination to visit, with very low crime rates . You can safely walk around on any island day and night.

8. Chandleries & Ordering Online

A view of Horta

There are small chandleries on several islands, with the best ones in Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel island.

But, you’re still on small islands so there is a good chance you won’t be able to find everything you need.

Thankfully, ordering things om Amazon.es and having them delivered in the Azores works well. There is no Portuguese version of Amazon, which is why they use the Spanish one.

We’ve ordered several boat parts on Amazon while we were in Ponta Delgada and had no issues. There are no extra delivery costs for shipping to the Azores versus shipping to mainland Portugal.

Unfortunately, some items won’t ship to the Azores, which you’ll see as soon as you try to place your order with an address in the Azores.

9. The Costs of Sailing in the Azores

Peter Cafe Sport in Horta

The Azores are surprisingly inexpensive.

Being relatively remote islands, I expected sailing in the Azores to be relatively expensive. At least significantly more expensive than mainland Portugal.

But if anything, the Azores are cheaper than many parts of Portugal.

Anything from groceries to eating out, marinas and many boat services you’ll find are less expensive than in large parts of Europe and definitely than in most of the Caribbean.

10. The Best Time to Sail in the Azores

Sete Cidades on Sao Miguel

Summer is the best time to sail in the Azores.

Or, more precisely, between the end of April and early October, when the waters are calmer and the chance of sea fog is lower.

The Azores is a very popular sailing destination in summer, but doesn’t see many international sailors the rest of the year.

If you want to sail back to Europe from the Azores, it’s best to leave before the end of September, before the weather deteriorates.

11. Cruising Guide for the Azores

The island of Faial

We use Navionics for navigation, and in the Azores that’s generally quite accurate.

But, for additional information, I like to get a cruising guide for every destination I sail to.

For the Azores, Imray Atlantic Islands by Anne Hammick is the best cruising Guide.

Some of the Best Things to Do in the Azores

Exploring Faial on a scooter

Apart from sailing from island to island, taking in the sights, and enjoying local food in small restaurants with friendly locals, these are some great things to do in the Azores:

  • Climb Pico, the highest mountain in Portugal.
  • Go on a whale watching tour from Horta or from Ponta Delgada . Seeing whales up close while sailing around the Azores is less common, which is why these tours are well worth it, even though you’re on a boat yourself!
  • Go on a full-day tour of Sao Miguel .
  • If you like to get the adrenaline going, go canyoning in Sao Miguel .
  • A half-day island tour with cheese tasting in Terceira .

Chartering a Boat to Sail in the Azores

A view over the tea plantations in Sao Miguel

Unlike popular sailing destinations such as Greece in the Mediterranean or the BVI in the Caribbean, you don’t find that many chartered boats in the Azores.

But, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some great options and I think the Azores is a great place to charter a boat. You can explore several islands, even if you’d only charter a boat for a few days.

Sailo has a good selection of privately owned sailboats for rent. It’s a great option both for captained and bareboat charters, and generally cheaper than local charter companies.

Sailing in the Azores – Conclusion

A view towards Horta

As most sailors I’ve met agree, sailing in the Azores is great!

The islands are beautiful and the people are extremely friendly. Plus, the islands are located relatively close together, making sailing between islands not too time-consuming.

If you love a laid-back atmosphere, great hiking, whale watching, and delicious local cheese and wine, you’ll love the Azores!

Plus, assuming you’ll be sailing in the Azores around the summer months, the more moderate weather here offers a nice change from the Caribbean and Southern European heat.

Sunseeker 95 Meros shared ownership yacht tour: Superyacht lifestyle for £1m?

  • Superyachts

Reporting from the 2023 Palma Boat Show, MBY editor Hugo Andreae takes us on a full tour of the Sunseeker 95 Meros and explains how this shared ownership scheme works...

This year’s Palma Boat Show saw a brand new Sunseeker 95 Yacht unveiled, and this one was specifically built for Meros, a co-ownership company. The heavily customised vessel boasts several modifications to suit its co-ownership purpose, both in terms of exterior styling and interior features.

The Meros co-ownership concept revolves around providing a fully equipped yacht with all the necessary toys and crew, allowing owners to simply arrive and enjoy their time on board. The yacht offers an array of amenities, including a Williams 460 Sportjet, ideal for watersports enthusiasts who can ski and wakeboard behind it.

The yacht also features a large hydraulic platform that lowers into the sea for launching and recovering the Sportjet. Additionally, there are other toys such as Seabobs and an e-foil electric surfboard for guests’ entertainment.

The yacht’s exterior spaces include a spacious cockpit area with flexible seating. The flybridge features glass panels with built-in infrared heating elements, providing radiant heat during colder months without warming the surrounding air. This feature enhances year-round usability, which is particularly important for shared ownership yachts.

Moving to the interior, the yacht offers an open-plan main deck saloon and dining area with a low-level seating zone and a large Hi-Lo TV. The interior design features neutral colours, allowing owners to personalise the space with their own scatter cushions, decorations, and personal effects. The dining area connects to a balcony that drops down over the sea, creating a refreshing atmosphere for guests.

The yacht’s main deck master cabin is a standout feature – glass inserts in the bulwarks allow for panoramic vistas from the bed, and the master cabin also includes a dressing area, a two-tier apartment-like layout, and an elegant curved staircase leading to a private office space. An additional door allows for direct access to a separate toilet during the night, providing convenience and privacy for the owner.

The lower deck is where you’ll find the guest cabins, providing comfortable accommodation for additional passengers. This Sunseeker 95 Yacht’s combination of luxurious features and the Meros co-ownership scheme offers a unique opportunity for boaters to enjoy the superyacht lifestyle without the associated hassles of ownership responsibilities.

F1 star fronts Sunseeker Meros Signature 95 launch

  • January 18, 2024

Esteban Ocon, a Meros Yachtsharing member and brand ambassador, will join the presentation of the third superyacht in the exclusive co-ownership programme.

Esteban Ocon, F1 driver and Meros Yachtsharing member

Founded by a German entrepreneur, featuring British yachts and fronted by a French brand ambassador, Meros Yachtsharing is staging the premiere of its new Sunseeker Meros Signature 95 superyacht at the 55 th edition of Boot Dusseldorf.

Alpine driver Esteban Ocon – a Meros member and brand ambassador – will present the latest addition to the company’s co-ownership programme, with the new yacht’s official debut held on the second day of the world’s biggest indoor boat show.

The highly customised 28m yacht is the third member of the Meros fleet, along with another Sunseeker 95 Yacht presented in Boot last year and a Sunseeker 86 Yacht. All are managed by seasoned crews that include a captain, deckhand, stewardess and a personal chef, each crew.

Founded in 2019 by an experienced yacht owner inspired by the growth of the sharing economy, Meros Yachtsharing is the exclusive contractual partner and sole provider of a co-ownership model for Sunseeker superyachts in Europe.

The company’s aim is to offer the market an alternative to sole yacht ownership by providing financially attractive terms and guaranteeing a premium experience. Operated from branches in Germany, Spain, Malta and soon the UK, the co-owner programme provides access to the Meros fleet with access to over 10 yachting hotspots in Europe.

Georg Oehme, Managing Director of Meros Yachtsharing, said: “Our sustainable co-ownership model presents a unique opportunity to enter a growing market. In our yacht-sharing models, the costs are shared in parallel to your usage. It’s a modern, sustainable approach for the sector where we focus on the client’s entire experience.”

Meros is collaborating with Sunseeker London Group, the British builder’s European sales organisation, and industry experts to take care of yacht and crew operations, route planning and administration, so offering far more than asset management.

Meros offers both Flexshare and Quarter co-ownership models. Flexshare involves use of any of the Flexshare fleet by several co-owners and is the home of the Meros concierge, which offers members and co-owners exclusive invites and access to some of the world’s most desirable events such as the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix.

As shown in 2023, one of Meros’ yachts is berthed trackside in Monaco and all owners are invited to enjoy a weekend hosted by the platform. In addition to this, Meros members and co-owners receive exclusive benefits from like-minded partners including NetJets and Thirdhome.

Meros also offers a classic co-ownership structure through the Quarter share model, with a 25 per cent stake of one boat, currently available only on the Sunseeker 86 Yacht. In this ownership, co-owners have direct ownership of a privately registered vessel, with Meros supporting and managing the vessel, all communication and crew.

After the success of Meros Flexshare in the Western Mediterranean last year, the programme is expanding into the Eastern Mediterranean and the UAE, allowing clients the opportunity to enjoy yachts in diverse regions and expanding their cruising season. Benefits of the arrangement include eliminating transfer costs and a quicker, easier way of exploring a variety of countries and cultures.

Meros Yachtsharing is also committed to environmental consciousness with an increasing capacity to use HVO-100 fuel across all new yachts. The initiative is supported by Repsol for distribution and MTU (Rolls-Royce) for research and development.

Sunseeker Meros Signature 95, the largest yacht in Düsseldorf 2023 is for rent

meros sunseeker 95 yacht

Meros offers services for the purchase of yachts over 25 meters in co-ownership. For 2023, in collaboration with its partner Sunseeker, it has developed a 95-foot superyacht, whose design and layout it has reworked. He is thus offering his clients a package to enjoy six weeks per year of all-inclusive vacation in the utmost luxury.

Chloé Torterat

A personalized yacht for Meros clients

Meros Yachtsharing, founded in 2019, is a company that co-owns superyachts over 25m. To build its fleet, it chose to work in collaboration with the British Sunseeker . After adding an 86-foot yacht to its fleet, the company developed, in partnership with the specialist in large production yachts , the Sunseeker Meros Signature 95, a 28.06-meter yacht. With a new look and a different layout, let's discover together and in pictures this new model which will be moored in the southwest of Majorca .

Un design moderne et de nouvelles couleurs de coque

To appeal to a younger audience, Meros decided to give the Sunseeker Meros Signature 95 a new, more modern look with a new paint scheme. The agency also opted for a modification of the bow superstructure, adding black glass.

L'avant de la superstructure a été retravaillée par Meros pour plus de modernité

A redesigned cockpit to extend uses

From the large bathing platform, the transom provides access to a locker for a Williams Jet tender, but above all to the crew area with its 4 berths, as well as to the laundry room. The yacht has a captain, a deckhand, a hostess and a chef.

The large side steps then lead to the cockpit, whose rear bench seat has been specifically adapted to this model. To extend the use of the boat , Meros also decided to be able to close the boat completely, thanks to a home automation system.

L'assise du cockpit et la décoration ont été confié à l'agence Terraza

A large flybridge with spa

A fixed staircase to starboard provides access to the flybridge, which has also undergone modifications. Inspired by Sunseeker's new Ocean series, it now has a spa area and a crane for handling the jet ski. Also on the fly is a huge U-shaped saloon with tables, a sunbathing area, a large bar and an exterior cockpit, from which a sliding door provides access to the interior cockpit, positioned above the salon. The rigid hard-top opens or closes electrically, to choose between protection and sun.

A bow with an intimate square and a huge sunbathing area

Back in the cockpit, the wide and protected side decks lead to the vast bow. A side opening in the starboard bulwark creates a balcony open to the salon, with removable stanchions, transforming it into a diving platform at anchor . On the foredeck, a U-shaped saloon, well protected by polyester lapels, leads via a few steps to the huge overhanging sundeck .

A living room like at home

Inside, the design was entrusted to the Spanish company Terrazza, who usually fit out luxury villas. The large living room offers a home-like layout, with a large living room with TV and armchairs facing the cockpit, and a dining table for 8 people at the stern. On the port side, you have access to the fully equipped galley, where the chef prepares the meals on board. The starboard gangway leads on the main deck to the Master cabin on three levels, and to the lower deck cabins via a central companionway.

A huge owner's cabin open on three levels

The owner's cabin, located at the front of the main deck, is huge. At the entrance, a toilet reserved for day use can be connected to the Master by closing the door of the large cabin. Its position close to the bed makes it easier to use at night.

La Master Cabine ouverte sur trois niveaux et son lit double

On the spacious main level, there is an office area, a large double bed with an unobstructed view of the sea thanks to the huge windows of the hull, a sofa area and a large flat screen TV. A few steps lead to the dressing area, with its many glass closets. Finally, on the third level, still open to the rest, is installed a beautiful bathroom with a double sink, a large walk-in shower and a closed toilet.

Four cabins for 10 persons on the lower deck

On the lower deck, four more cabins can accommodate another 10 people. The two center cabins, with their double beds, have their own bathroom. The other two twin cabins also have their own bathrooms and offer additional sleeping space with a fold-down bed, an option requested by Meros.

Two big engines to enjoy the cruise

With its two MTU 12V 2000 engines, the Sunseeker Meros Signature 95 has a maximum speed of 26 knots and an announced range of 1250 miles at a speed of 10 knots.

A package of weeks to enjoy an all-inclusive vacation

Located in Mallorca, it is offered by the Meros agency through a package called Flex Shares. This system allows different clients to invest in the boat according to the number of weeks they want to spend on board, without owning it. The basic price of 1,250,000 euros for six weeks, to be divided between in-season and off-season periods, allows the boat to be privatized with all the services included: equipment, numerous nautical facilitiesâ?¦ This package also allows the client to switch dates, but also vacation locations by privatizing another yacht from the Meros fleet, in another resort.

6 Top Transatlantic Cruises for 2024

T ransatlantic cruises are unique when you compare them to traditional cruises most people book for family trips and romantic getaways. These voyages tend to be longer in general, and they have more built-in days at sea and offer a lot more time on board as a result. Repositioning cruises that include a transatlantic crossing tend to attract more retirees and travelers who just want to relax and enjoy their ships' amenities, especially since fewer days in port means fewer excursions and more time doing nothing at all.

That said, the fact that transatlantic cruises can last as few as seven nights means they may fit in your plans more easily than you may think. There are also some benefits to transatlantic crossings that may not be obvious, including lower nightly rates, more onboard credit, and more time to kick back and relax at a floating luxury resort in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

If you're curious which transatlantic cruises are best for 2024, here are six top picks with different cruise lengths, itineraries and unique destinations to explore.

Explore cruises on GoToSea , a service of U.S. News.

Cunard Line

Date: Departs May 5, 2024

Departure port: Brooklyn, New York

Starting price: $2,449 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 7 to 18 nights

In May of 2024, Cunard's Queen Mary 2 vessel will offer three different transatlantic crossings of various lengths. Choose from a seven-night sailing from Brooklyn, New York , to Southampton, England; a nine-night sailing to Hamburg, Germany ; and an 18-night round-trip sailing that departs from Brooklyn and crosses the Atlantic twice on the way back to its starting point. This unique combination of itineraries lets you cross the sea and tailor your trip to how long you want to be away from home.

The 18-night itinerary is especially interesting, since it lets you depart from the United States and arrive back in Brooklyn in the end with stops in both England and Germany, as well as plenty of sea days in between. Luxury cruise line Cunard is known for its elegant design, lush amenities and upscale feel, and the Queen Mary 2 is one of the line's most luxurious ships. Highlights on this exclusive vessel include the Royal Court Theatre, a casino, gala evenings, an onboard spa and a vast library. The Queen Mary 2 holds up to 2,691 guests with 1,173 crew to cater to your every need.

Seabourn Cruise Line

Date: Departs March 24, 2024

Departure port: Miami

Starting price: $5,949 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 21 nights

Seabourn is offering a 21-night transatlantic cruise from Miami on Seabourn Quest in March 2024 that offers a diverse range of ports of call before ending its voyage in Las Palmas in Spain's Canary Islands . Departure from Miami is followed by nine days at sea. Then, you'll enjoy multiple stops in the Canary Islands – including Santa Cruz de La Palma and San Sebastián de La Gomera – as well as stops in Praia and Mindelo the Cape Verde archipelago.

This journey with Seabourn makes it possible for travelers to see some of the most beautiful and remote tropical islands in the world. The Canary Islands are known for their white sand beaches , volcanoes and lush greenery; similar landscapes can also be found in Cape Verde's coastal towns and villages. Seabourn Quest, a smaller ocean vessel, accommodates just 229 guests.

MSC Cruises

Date: Departs Nov. 8, 2024

Departure port: Southampton, England

Starting price: $769 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 16 nights

The MSC Virtuosa from MSC Cruises is repositioning from Europe to the Caribbean in November 2024, which gives travelers the chance to enjoy a lengthy transatlantic crossing with plenty of unique ports. This sailing departs from England with eight sea days plus stops in France, the Azores of Portugal, St. Maarten , Antigua and Barbuda, and Martinique . The ship ends its journey in Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

The MSC Virtuosa is a larger cruise vessel that boasts an impressive grand promenade with a LED dome ceiling, dedicated clubs for children and teens, an onboard spa, a lavish casino and the luxurious MSC Yacht Club section of the ship. This vessel holds a maximum of 6,334 passengers at once.

Princess Cruises

Date: Departs July 5, 2024

Departure port: New York City (Manhattan or Brooklyn)

Starting price: $4,098 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 31 nights

Princess Cruises also offers its share of transatlantic sailings on various vessels. Its 31-night crossing from New York to Barcelona, Spain , on Island Princess in July 2024 is jam-packed with exciting destinations to explore. This lengthy transatlantic voyage has only 13 sea days with planned stops in Canada's Newfoundland, Greenland, Iceland, Scotland, England, Spain, Portugal and Morocco before the journey ends in Barcelona.

This intriguing sailing experience with Princess takes passengers to eight different countries in the span of a month. Island Princess is a nice ship for a long sailing because of its smaller size, with just 2,200 passengers and 900 crew. But the ship is also large enough to have a huge selection of included and specialty dining options, a Vegas-style casino, a sports court, a large central atrium for gathering, and several pools and hot tubs to enjoy.

Celebrity Cruises

Date: Departs April 11, 2024

Departure port: Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Starting price: $760 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 12 nights

Celebrity Cruises is offering a 12-night sailing on Celebrity Equinox in April 2024 that starts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida , and ends in Lisbon, Portugal – making it possible for travelers to enjoy eight relaxing days at sea. What's interesting about this sailing is its stops along the way, which include the Royal Naval Dockyard in Bermuda; Porta Delgada in Portugal's Azores archipelago; and Porto in mainland Portugal.

The Celebrity Equinox accommodates a maximum of just 2,852 passengers at once, so this Celebrity vessel is a solid choice for travelers who want just the right size ship instead of a smaller vessel or a megaship. There are also plenty of onboard features to keep you happy and entertained as you float across the Atlantic Ocean, including The Casino, The Lawn Club with outdoor games like bocce ball and croquet, The Martini Bar, the adults-only Solarium and more.

Royal Caribbean International

Dates: Departs Oct. 24, 2024

Departure port: Barcelona, Spain

Starting price: $876 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 14 nights

Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas is hosting a transatlantic voyage in October 2024 that departs from Barcelona, Spain, and ends in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This vessel will make stops in Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, Cartagena and Málaga in Spain, then spend eight days at sea. After that, enjoy a day in Nassau in the Bahamas before the cruise drops passengers off in sunny Florida.

Interior staterooms on this Royal Caribbean sailing start at just $876 per person (plus port taxes and fees), which works out to around $60 per night, per person. The Oasis of the Seas megaship can hold a total of 6,771 guests and 2,109 crew, so it's an enormous vessel – to put it mildly. This size may not be ideal for travelers who want a more intimate cruising experience, but it's perfect for cruisers who want plenty of space to spread out and endless activities to take part in. Oasis of the Seas boasts 20 different restaurants and cafes, 11 bars and lounges, a variety of pools and whirlpools, a rock climbing wall, the AquaTheater diving and entertainment venue, mini-golf, a casino and plenty more.

“Our 2026 World Cruise offers our most destination-rich itinerary ever so guests can immerse themselves in a global experience rich with landmarks, ancient ruins, unique landscapes, wildlife, gastronomy, cultures and heritage,” he added.

The cruise will include the line's first-ever stop in Boracay, an island in the Philippines, and Coral Princess will make new world cruise calls to Puerto Chiapas, Mexico and Ponta Delgada in Portugal’s Azores Islands . Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
