The Inside of A Charter Bus - Let's Take a Look

If you've never been on a charter bus, then you're in for a treat. Let's take a peek inside and see what this mode of transportation offers.

The inside of a charter bus

As soon as you step onto the bus, you'll be blown away by its sheer size. And we're not just talking about the outside - the inside is just as spacious. With plenty of leg room, you can sit back and relax on your journey. But that's not all - the seats are also extremely comfortable, with soft fabric and plenty of cushioning.

For the luxury-style charter buses, you can expect leather reclining seats and wood paneling throughout the bus. If you're looking to travel in style, then this is the way to do it.

Now that you've gotten a glimpse of the inside of a charter bus, we'll cover some of the amenities that are available on board.

Oversized Windows

Oversized windows are one of the best features of charter buses. Not only do they provide panoramic views of the scenery outside, but they also let in natural light, making the ride more enjoyable. Plus, if you're prone to motion sickness, the wide field of view can help alleviate any symptoms.

Overestimating how much time you have before your next stop is easy to do - but luckily, charter buses are equipped with restrooms. This way, you don't have to hold it in for the entire ride. There's usually a toilet and a small sink - so you can take care of business and freshen up before you reach your destination. Some charter buses also have showers, but that isn't the standard.

Wifi and outlets for charging devices

Over the years, wifi has become standard on charter buses. This is a lifesaver if you need to stay connected for work or want to stream your favorite movie during the ride. Remember that charter buses travel long distances through uninhabited areas, so the wifi can sometimes be spotty.

Having outlets is also very common on charter buses so you can keep your devices fully charged.

Most modern charter buses have TVs onboard, which is a great feature for those who want to stay entertained on long trips. You can either watch your favorite movie or show or even just relax and take in the scenery. It's your choice!

Note: You'll either find the tv screens on the back of the seats or hanging overhead and spread throughout the bus.

Air Conditioning/Heating

Staying cool in the summer or warm in the winter while traveling the years, charter buses have been outfitted with better and more reliable air conditioning and heating systems. This ensures that passengers are comfortable no matter what the temperature is outside.

Overhead bin space

If you're traveling with a lot of luggage, then you'll be happy to know that charter buses have plenty of overhead bin space. This means that you can store your suitcases and other belongings without having to worry about them taking up too much space.

Oftentimes, the bins are spacious enough to fit a carry-on and a personal item. So, you can easily keep all of your essentials with you during the ride. Just be sure to pack lightly so that you can take advantage of this storage option.

Charter buses have come a long way - and they're only getting better. With so many amenities on board, it's no wonder that this form of transportation is becoming increasingly popular. The next time you're planning a long trip, consider renting a charter bus. You won't be disappointed.

Inside a Charter Bus – What to Expect on Your Next Trip

Inside a Charter Bus - What to Expect on Your Next Trip

We know a lot of people think that the inside of a charter bus is just like any other vehicle. But regarding these coaches, there are some things that set them apart from other vehicles.

A charter bus rental can be a great way to travel in style and can be your home away from home. This is because coach buses interiors are more comfortable than other options, and are often less expensive per person than flying or driving your own vehicle.

And, the best part is that you can customize as per your needs, whether it is a school field trip or a team outing .

Now, maybe you’re convinced a bit and plan on taking a trip in a coach, but, you are still wondering what the inside of one looks like. Here are some things to know about what you’ll find inside a luxury coach:

While most people know what a restroom looks like, many don’t realize how useful a bathroom can be on a long road trip! Charter buses have restrooms, which means that you do not have to stop at rest stops along the way. This feature is especially important for those who have children because they do not have to worry about bathroom breaks.

Some bus rental companies do provide toiletries; still it’s best to bring your own toilet paper, hand soap and wet naps with you on the bus.

The bathroom is usually located at the back of the bus so that you can take a trip to the loo when nature calls.

Also, some companies even offer showers if you need to freshen up before going home after your long trip.

It is possible your phone has no signal or a very low signal when you are on the bus. In this case, it is not possible to use the internet or make calls with your mobile. A Wi-Fi hotspot is available onboard some charter buses, allowing passengers to stay connected during their trip.

While Wi-Fi is accessible in different areas of the bus, it may not be available throughout the entire trip. For example, if you’re traveling across the country, you may only have access to Wi-Fi while you’re at rest stops or waiting at a stop sign.

Power Outlets

Many charter buses include power outlets near seats so passengers can charge their phones and other devices while on the road. Some buses have outlets throughout the cabin, while others have only one or two at each seat.

Charter buses can have USB ports, but they tend to be few. You should be able to find one on the bus driver’s side dashboard, usually near the front of the bus.

If you are lucky enough to have access to a USB port, then you can charge your phone or tablet from it. This is useful if you want to use a navigation app like Google Maps or Waze while driving with your group.

Most charter buses have cabinets above each row of seats that allow passengers to store larger items like suitcases or backpacks.

They can also be used as an alternative to overhead luggage racks. These are usually found on regular commercial buses but not on chartered vehicles. Unless you specifically asked during your reservation process.

These cabinets are typically lockable so that only authorized passengers can access them.

Air conditioning/heating

Most luxury buses can be cooled or heated depending on the climate outside and the comfort level of your passengers.

So, you don’t have to worry about sweating profusely because of the heat or shivering uncontrollably because of the cold. It’s all taken care of by professionals at the rental company.

Food and drink

Depending on the length of your trip, you may be able to enjoy a meal on board or simply grab a drink. Many companies also offer snacks such as cookies and chips.

Most charter coaches have rows of seats facing each other or a center aisle. This allows passengers to sit at tables or in traditional theater seating arrangements depending on the type of trip.

Charter buses generally have capacity for at least 20 people, although the number varies based on the size of the bus. Seating generally consists of row seating, with each row having between three and six seats. Each seat may have its own armrests and legroom depending on the model of bus used for the charter.

Seats are often cushioned and adjustable so that everyone has a comfortable ride regardless of their size or needs

Seat cushions

The seat cushions on buses are usually designed to be very comfortable for passengers. They have higher backs than regular buses and are reclinable if necessary. They also have more padding than standard buses, which helps keep you warm during colder months or cool in warmer ones.

The seat cushions also include storage compartments under them. Here, you can store items such as snacks, beverages, books, or other personal items while you’re on your trip.

Cup Holders

Some buses have cups holders built into their seats, while others have them mounted onto the side of their seats or under their armrests.

Passengers can use these cup holders to hold their drinks during the ride without worrying about spilling anything on themselves or their belongings.

The flooring on a charter bus is made of carpet instead of hardwood or tile like in other vehicles. This makes it much more comfortable for passengers and removes noise when they walk around inside the vehicle.

Electronic Signage

Electronic signage is usually located at the front and back of buses. This allows drivers to communicate with passengers via audio and visual messages. This may include information about upcoming stops, delays, or detours, etc.

Night Vision Cameras

Some charters have cameras installed on the outside so that the driver can see even when it’s dark outside. This is useful when driving at night or in rural areas where streetlights are sparse or non-existent altogether!

Entertainment

Some luxury buses come with televisions and DVD players, allowing passengers to watch movies or listen to music. This can be especially helpful for children on long trips who might otherwise become bored or restless. We suggest you plan a movie time, as it’s fun for everyone, but be mindful of the age group you’re traveling with.

Sometimes, the buses even feature games such as trivia and card games for passengers of all ages to enjoy.

Reading Lights

Most buses have reading lights mounted above each seat, which passengers can turn on by turning the knob next to the light switch.

Some buses also have overhead lights which stay on during the entire trip. While others have a switch located near each seat so that passengers can turn them off.

Emergency Exits

The location and number of emergency exits varies by type of charter bus. But most have at least one exit per side besides an emergency exit through the roof hatch.

They are at the front and rear of buses for easy access in case of emergency. There are also two emergency exit hatches in the roof of your charter bus. These signs are clearly marked with red signs and have a door handle that is different than the others.

Charter buses have seat belts. The driver will make an announcement when you board that seat belts are required on all trips and will ask everyone to buckle up. Some states have it mandatory; for instance, it is required in California , so don’t forget!

Games (often not Included or optional)

If you have a good group of friends, you can bring some games to play with each other. This will help you pass time and make the experience even more enjoyable. You can bring board games or cards. You can also try out other games like Jenga or Uno .

All in all, the inside of a charter bus varies from company to company. In other words, you may encounter very different levels of luxury depending on which bus rental company you choose. That said, if luxury is one of your concerns, it’s probably worth asking about interior features when you call to get a quote . And if it doesn’t matter so much to you, then perhaps cost is the decision-maker here. Whatever it might be, always remember to discuss.

Charter Bus Seating Capacity: A Comprehensive Guide

how many seats on a charter bus

Table of Contents

Are you in search of the safest and most reliable transportation for your upcoming group trip or events? Whether it’s transporting guests for a wedding, a sports team event, or a concert, a charter bus stands out as the optimal and dependable choice.

Charter bus rentals offer so many conveniences for different functions. Such as at weddings or special events, managing late arrivals and handling logistics can be challenging. This is where charter bus rentals become invaluable. Renting a charter bus makes it easy to handle your guests, eliminating concern about arrival.

However, a common question that arises when planning to hire a charter bus is, “How many seats are there on a charter bus ?” It’s crucial to consider this, as choosing a bus with less seating capacity than the total number of your guests can lead to discomfort for them while renting one with excess capacity can be a waste of money. Proper research and knowledge on charter bus seat capacity is essential to ensure you book one that suits your needs.

What is a Charter Bus?

Wine and Brewery Tours Charter Bus Seating Capacity: A Comprehensive Guide

A charter bus, often referred to as a motorcoach, is a large, specialized vehicle reserved for private use by organizations, specific groups, or businesses to transport a group of people to a particular destination. Unlike regular buses that adhere to predetermined routes, a charter bus is exclusively hired for a specific group, providing a more personalized and direct transportation solution.

Since as early as 3000 B.C.E., coach buses have been utilized for transportation. However, during those times, they were exclusively accessible to high-profile individuals and only practical in areas where the roads maintained a sufficient level of quality. It was only in the 20th century that coach buses, resembling the ones we are familiar with today, began to emerge. This period marked the transition from horse-drawn carriages to motor vehicles, making buses available to a broader demographic, including schoolchildren, workers, and tourists, rather than catering to the rich society.

Nowadays, charter buses have become the most common group transportation, providing groups with the flexibility to organize their own tours and travel directly to their desired destinations. Many organizations rely on charter buses for their group travel needs due to the convenience, cost efficiency, and safety they provide. These buses are also incredibly convenient and efficient for group transportation during weddings and other events.

Understanding Charter Bus Types and Capacities

Charter buses come in various sizes, each with different seating capacities. A typical charter bus rental provides around 36 to 60 seats. Still, the actual number can vary depending on the design, model, and size of the charter bus. Here are the different types of charter buses with their seating capacity:

Organizations can utilize mid-size coaches for short to medium-duration trips, making them a practical choice for group transportation .

Things to Know Before You Charter a Tour Bus

Traveling in a luxurious tour bus is a unique experience and an ideal solution for anyone traveling over the road for extended periods. Since these buses are specially equipped to provide multi-day comfort on long journeys, most companies that rent them do so on long-term contracts. Many companies will charter or rent for a day.

Here are some things to keep in mind before you book an entertainer coach for your next trip:

  • Accommodations and features will differ significantly, make sure to see the coach before signing a contract.
  • Often includes sleeping accommodations with either one bed for a single entertainer or a configuration of up to 8 or more bunks.
  • Always ask for insurance information before booking.
  • If you need other parties listed as additionally insured, tell the company before signing a contract.

Though we work hard to keep our listings updated, we encourage you to check the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Safer System for company standing before booking with any operator.

Common Amenities on a Tour Bus

Because tour buses are designed to serve as your home out on the road, these vehicles are packed to the brim with amenities. When you're traveling for days at a time and spending long periods on your bus, you want every luxury you can get to make the journey more comfortable.

Most tour buses feature bunks or beds where you can relax or catch some sleep overnight and lounge areas where you can hang out during the day. While the details for each bus will vary, you can expect the following amenities from a tour bus charter:

  • Restrooms   | Always
  • AC   | Always
  • WiFi   | Almost Always
  • Screens/DVD   | Almost Always
  • PA Systems   | Often
  • In-Seat Power Outlets   | Almost Always
  • Airline Grade Entertainment   | Almost Always
  • Wheelchair Accessible   | Rare

We encourage you to ask your operators questions and request photos of your bus so you know you're getting what you need to make your trip a success.

Common Activities That Use Tour Buses

When you think about luxury tour buses, the first thing that comes to mind is probably the rock stars who tour the country putting on spectacular shows. Still, they aren't the only ones traveling in these buses. Entertainer coach buses provide comfortable, luxurious transportation and accommodations for a wide range of performers, political figures and everyday folks who want an experience like no other.

From road trips to tours and everything in between, tour buses provide an excellent home away from home for any group, including:

Bands and Entertainers

Bands and musicians

Political Campaigns

Political Campaigns

Theatre groups, comedians and entertainers, executive/corporate, visiting dignitary or executive groups, wedding party transportation, wedding venue shuttle, business commuter shuttle, college and professional sports, tailgate parties, traveling/hosting sporting events, nascar/racing events, benefits of renting an entertainer coach bus.

Renting a tour bus for a long trip provides you the ultimate convenience. Your bus should have almost everything you need onboard, so you can travel without searching for hotel rooms or places to stop for food and bathroom breaks.

As with any rental, your entertainer coach will be assigned an experienced driver who will ensure you arrive at each destination safely. You can sit back and relax, and your driver will be responsible for navigation, traffic and parking. This driver gives you the opportunity to work on your performance, socialize or take a nap so that you arrive fresh and ready to shine.

Tour buses are an environmentally friendly alternative to other modes of travel, helping to minimize the impact of your tour by limiting the number of vehicles or plane trips required to get you where you're going. Most tour buses are relatively fuel-efficient and house an entire band along with some crew members, allowing you to carpool and reduce the number of vehicles on the road.

See inside Dolly Parton’s tour bus designed by the country star herself

Dolly Parton gives fans a tour of her "Gypsy Wagon."

After working "9 to 5," where does legendary singer Dolly Parton rest up? Her tour bus, of course.

Now, thanks to Dollywood, you can book that tour bus (which is called "Gyspy Wagon" by Parton) yourself!

Dollywood recently released photos of the "Gypsy Wagon" to promote a special accommodation the park is offering: up to two guests can stay at least two nights in "Dolly Suite 1986" (aka on the tour bus). The cost to do so begins at $10,000.

Dollyworld offers an opportunity for its guests to stay on Parton's tour bus.

Aside from being a wildly successful country music icon, Parton also is a "free-spirited traveler," according to a Dollywood press release — so it's no wonder her tour bus is decorated akin to her personality.

According to that press release, Parton used this tour bus from 2008 to 2022, marking 13 years of traveling across the country. In that stretch of time, she did the most traveling on her 2016 "Pure & Simple" tour, where she visited more than 60 cities in North America.

Parton's bus from the exterior.

While the outside of the bus may appear just as an average tour bus (you know, aside from the big, pink "Dolly" sticker), the interior proves to be a wonderfully-curated collection of items and furniture that are so Dolly Parton.

Upon entering, guests are greeted by a sitting area that exudes '70s vibes, complete with antique accessories like a vintage telephone. Don't worry though, there is a modern television!

According to Dollywood, Parton specifically requested the hand-painted murals that adorn the walls in this room.

Sitting room in Dolly's tour bus.

"These unique paintings of wayfaring wanderers, wagons and crystal balls paint the interpretation of life on the road for the singer," the press release reads.

The bedroom features brightly-colored accents and some personal memorabilia from Parton herself.

Then, enter the bedroom, which is by far the most quintessential "Dolly" room you'll probably ever see.

The bedroom boasts lots of jewel-toned accents, such as hot pink and blue wall designs — even the bedding, complete with fuzzy pink pillows, is a signature hot pink.

Her makeup vanity is also on display, complete with a makeup mirror, flowers in a vase and a perfectly-picked pink and purple vanity chair to match.

Parton's closer, complete with shoes, outfits and accessories from Parton.

Open the closet door and guests can get a glimpse of some outfits and accessories the singer has worn.

And the standout detail of the bedroom: Parton's wig cabinet. Parton herself said that her wigs have sort of become her "trademark" over the years, so it's no wonder the singer wants some of them on display for her guests.

Parton's trademark wigs are on display for guests.

Parton's home away from home includes a plethora of design details that perfectly encapsulate who she is. Our only question now is: When do we get to stay?

1 dead, 3 in hospital after flying wheel crashes into bus windshield on QEW

Bryann Aguilar

Bryann Aguilar , CP24.com Journalist

@BryannAguilar

A man is dead and three others are in hospital after a flying wheel crashed into a coach bus on the QEW in St. Catharines Friday afternoon.

It happened on the Toronto-bound lanes of the highway on the descending side of the Garden City Skyway bridge shortly after 3:30 p.m.

QEW collision

Ontario Provincial Police said a van was travelling on the Toronto-bound lanes when one of its wheels came off.

The wheel, police said, hit a pickup truck in the opposite lane before smashing through the windshield of the Toronto-bound bus. Images from Chopper24 show a tour bus with its windshield shattered and a minivan with a missing front wheel.

QEW collision

A 48-year-old bus passenger from Toronto was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Three other passengers were transported to local area hospitals with serious injuries.

It is unclear how many passengers were on the bus during the incident.

All Toronto-bound lanes of the QEW at Glendale Avenue have been closed for hours due to the collision. Police said the highway was expected to reopen by 11 p.m.

Changing Skyline: Bring Philadelphia’s suffering bus travelers inside

Consider it a tale of two transportation modes.

Go to JFK Boulevard in University City and you'll see travelers huddled on the sidewalk like refugees, in the scorching sun of summer and the chilling wind of winter, while they wait for buses to New York or Washington. Then walk across the street to the soaring waiting room of 30th Street Station , where Amtrak riders heading to the same destinations relax in climate-controlled comfort, sipping lattes until their trains are called.

Though no one could argue that conditions for American rail travelers are ideal, intercity bus riders have it many times worse. Philadelphia boasts the second-highest bus ridership in the country, after New York, and yet our main bus station at 10th and Filbert is a grim, one-story, cinder-block affair that would not look out of place in a third world country. At least it has a roof. For riders taking the BoltBus or Megabus from the university area - some 5,000 people a day - there is no cover at all.

But Philadelphia's neglected bus riders could finally see some relief. Buried deep within the new Amtrak master plan is a proposal for a modern bus terminal on the north side of 30th Street Station. And unlike most of the projects depicted in Amtrak's eye-catching renderings, the bus station is something that could actually happen in our lifetimes.

Building a new bus station for its competitors was probably the last thing on Amtrak's mind when it commissioned the long-range plan from SOM, WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff, and Olin. The main goal was to monetize the underused real estate over the 30th Street Station rail yards to compensate for the never-ending reductions in federal funding. What seemed to captivate the public most after the plan was released this summer was a proposal to build a miniature Center City north of the station, between the Schuylkill and Drexel University.

The high-rise development would certainly be a huge boon to Philadelphia's economy. Unfortunately, the forest of skyscrapers is unlikely to materialize until Amtrak can build its long-promised high-speed rail network . At best, we're talking three or four decades. When those superfast trains finally do arrive, you can bet ticket prices will be in the stratosphere, beyond the reach of anyone who doesn't travel on an expense account.

Buses, on the other hand, are cheap - as little as $10 for a one-way ticket on the Philadelphia-New York run - and are likely to remain so. Low fares are one reason private motor coaches are now the fastest-growing form of intercity travel, growing faster than planes, trains, and automobiles. By beefing up its bus infrastructure, the city could enjoy an economic jolt at a fraction of the cost of high-speed rail.

Long-distance buses were once seen as the travel mode of last resort, patronized by drifters and lost souls. But the introduction of luxury coaches equipped with restrooms and WiFi has changed all that, explains Joseph P. Schwieterman, a transit expert at DePaul University's Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development. Rising Amtrak fares on the Northeast Corridor accelerated the shift. Now, everyone from college students to business travelers rides short-haul buses.

Bus operators have done particularly well on the East Coast, where cities are crammed close together. Philadelphia's location in the middle of the vast Northeast megalopolis has made it "a hotbed for short-haul bus companies," Schwieterman says. Together, BoltBus and Megabus carried more than 1.8 million Philadelphia riders in 2013. Greyhound, which owns BoltBus, handles similar traffic at the Filbert Street station.

The growing numbers have made the deplorable condition of the city's bus infrastructure unacceptable. Because the Filbert and JFK depots are next to Regional Rail stations, they are, in theory, an intermodalist's dream . Yet there are almost no signs or pathways in either location to smooth the connection to the trains. "People are always stopping to ask me, 'Where is the BoltBus?' " says Natalie Shieh, who is overseeing Amtrak's master plan from her office at 30th Street Station.

Amtrak's design for the new station is still preliminary, but the early concept calls for a covered, 11-bay terminal on Arch Street, steps from the train station's north entrance. A ticket office and waiting room would be incorporated into the canopy structure. Because the site borders the Cira Centre's front plaza, there is an opportunity to create an outdoor seating area served by food vendors. With the Amtrak parking garage next door, it's an intermodal trifecta.

There's just one hitch. The alignment of the I-76 and I-676 ramps complicates vehicle access to the site, forcing buses to loop around from Market Street. The ramp arrangement is also the main reason Amtrak has never been able to get the traffic circulation right at 30th Street Station.

So, before it builds the bus station, Amtrak wants PennDot to reconfigure the ramps. As highway projects go, it's small change, $32 million. But given the pace of these things, Shieh estimates it will take 10 years before Amtrak can start work on the bus station, which is now estimated to cost $17 million.

That's too long for people to stand out in the heat and the cold. It's also too long for Drexel University, which is planning to expand onto JFK Boulevard as part of its Schuylkill Yards innovation district .

Why wait for the ramps to be reconstructed? Amtrak owns the one-acre surface lot. It wouldn't cost much to erect a temporary canopy and small enclosure , and make a few street adjustments to accommodate buses. This is exactly the kind of problem architectural competitions are meant to solve. If we can do pop-up beer gardens, we can do a pop-up bus station.

Boston, Washington, and Denver have already taken steps to improve conditions for bus travelers, by carving out space in their Amtrak stations for bus bays. Though these makeshift depots don't offer the graciousness of a classic train station, they're far better than leaving riders out in the elements. Amtrak might also consider setting aside space in its garage for buses.

Initially, bus operators resisted moving indoors because it meant paying docking fees. But city officials in Boston and Washington put down their respective feet. The operators, in turn, added a small surcharge to their ticket prices. As the popularity of bus travel broadens, operators have come to believe civilized waiting areas are crucial to their brands.

The problems at Filbert Street go beyond the station's dismal physical condition. Traffic congestion is terrible because buses must navigate Chinatown's narrow streets. A 2009 Planning Commission study noted that putting bus bays on Arch Street created a wide gap that "cripples one of Chinatown's most important retail streets." Because the property is privately owned, it is hard to believe the station's large surface lot will remain undeveloped after the Gallery reopens in 2018.

So, here’s the big question: Instead of having two substandard bus depots, should Philadelphia aim for one gracious, modern bus facility? Bus travel is expected to double by 2040. Philadelphia can’t just wait around to solve the problem of its bus infrastructure.

Sheriff Robert Luna said in recent comments that the vast majority of people arrested or detained in connection with wrongdoing on the transit system had not paid the proper fare to board.

Passengers are required to use a TAP card to pay the fare before boarding a bus or train. Under the pilot program that began Tuesday, passengers exiting the Metro B (Red) Line train at the North Hollywood station are required to again tap the fare card to leave the station.

Metro officials described it as an effort to boost compliance with fare requirements, noting that people who do not pay the fare are subject to citation or removal from the system.

According to Metro, similar tap-to-exit programs are already in place on other systems, including Bay Area Rapid Transit, Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority and Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Transit Authority.

Tapping the TAP card upon exiting the station will confirm that valid fare was paid for the trip. People who did not pay the fare when they boarded the train will be charged when they tap to exit, but those people could still be cited or removed from the transit system for failing to pay up front.

“We have also increased the visible presence of our teams at North Hollywood Station,” according to Metro. “These include our Blue Shirts, who provide assistance with our Ticket Vending Machines, our Metro Ambassadors, who help riders navigate the system, connect you to resources and report issues they see, as well as our law enforcement partners, and our Transit Security Officers who enforce the Code of Conduct.

“… We are listening to your feedback, and this is one of many steps that we are taking to improve safety and cleanliness on your system.”

Safety on the transit system has been a major topic in recent weeks, with a series of attacks on bus drivers and violence involving passengers, including Monday’s incident in which a woman allegedly attacked and robbed a Metro bus driver on Spring Street just south of Temple Street, the stabbing of a man on a Metro bus in the Lynwood area, the recent shooting death of a bus passenger in Commerce and stabbing death of a woman on a B Line train between the North Hollywood and Studio City stations.

The Metro Board of Directors last week approved a pair of motions aimed at boosting safety on the transit system in response to a string of recent attacks involving drivers and passengers. The motions approved by the Metro board include a call for immediate deployment of more law enforcement on the transit system and at stations, along with the exploration of possible technological improvements that can be made on buses, trains and stations.

The board had previously voted to expedite the acquisition and installation of driver-protection barriers on about 2,000 buses.
