Cruise lines change itineraries as Hurricane Lee reaches New England USA and Canada

CruiseMapper logo

Post-tropical cyclone Lee arrived in Canada on Saturday, September 16th, ushering in heavy rainfall, potent winds, and storm surges affecting sectors of New England USA and southeastern Canada. This meteorological event led to disruptions in both flight and cruise schedules along the Atlantic coast.

In anticipation of the hurricane, RCI-Royal Caribbean enacted alterations to the itineraries of 4 vessels. Notably, one of these ships, originally destined for a Thursday port call in St. Maarten , had to forego its intended stop due to the storm, as reported by the port authorities. Specifically, Royal Caribbean's Jewel of the Seas , which embarked from Cape Liberty in New Jersey on Friday, had originally planned to visit Halifax, Canada on Saturday. However, the ship found herself berthed in Manhattan instead.

NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line took parallel measures, canceling planned stops for its Norwegian Escape ship . Departing from Boston MA on a Tuesday, the vessel diverted to Eastport ME , instead of its initial destination, Portland. The route was further adjusted, foregoing Halifax, Canada, in favor of a Sunday arrival in New York, where the Escape concluded the remaining 2 days of the voyage.

Princess Cruises also altered its course away from Halifax. Emerald Princess , initially scheduled for a Thursday visit to the Canadian city, was redirected to her homeport in Brooklyn, New York, after departing from Saint John, Newfoundland , ultimately arriving a day earlier than scheduled, on Friday. Additionally, Caribbean Princess docked in Boston on Friday, anticipating the impending storm. The subsequent sections of the 10-day itinerary were subject to potential alterations due to adverse weather conditions. Princess' representative extended apologies for the unforeseen changes and inconveniences faced by passengers, while also expressing gratitude for their patience and understanding, underscoring the prioritization of safety.

Meanwhile, ACL-American Cruise Lines , with the presence of several small ships in Portland , Bangor ME , and New Bedford MA , took precautionary measures by docking all vessels in the affected region ahead of the storm. ACL's representative noted the possibility of further itinerary adjustments in response to evolving weather conditions.

Hurricane Lee impacting cruise ship itineraries. Here are the changes so far

cruise ships in the path of hurricane lee

Book Your Next Amazing Cruise with Travel Leader, Jeffrey Cleary

Lee is a major hurricane and a storm of its magnitude results in cruise ship itinerary changes.

The tropical storm went from a category 1 to a category 5 before falling back to a category 3 on Friday night.  After quickly reaching category 5 intensity 36 hours ago, Hurricane Lee has been struggling against wind shear.

Nonetheless, weather experts predict the storm will remain a menace.

The path is not clear yet, but its path could cross many common avenues cruise ships use to traverse the Caribbean.

Lee is already impacting some cruise ship itineraries, with Royal Caribbean announcing course changes.

Royal Caribbean made these changes to ensure an enjoyable and safe experience, “To ensure we have a safe and smooth journey, and to stay well away from Hurricane Lee’s path, we’ve adjusted our itinerary,” said the email sent to booked passengers.

Here’s the list of cruise ship changes so far.

Adventure of the Seas – September 9, 2023 sailing

Royal Caribbean plans for Adventure of the Seas to depart Fort Lauderdale on Saturday as planned.

The ship will now visit Roatan, Honduras on Day 3 and Cozumel, Mexico on Day 4.

Wonder of the Seas – September 10, 2023 sailing

Royal Caribbean changed Wonder of the Seas to go from an Eastern Caribbean itinerary to the Western Caribbean.

The ship was scheduled to visit  Perfect Day at CocoCay , St. Thomas, and St. Maarten.

Instead, the world’s largest cruise ship will visit CocoCay on September 11; Cozumel, Mexico on September 13; and Roatán, Honduras on September 14.

Harmony of the Seas – September 9, 2023 sailing

Harmony of the Seas is also swapping itineraries.

The September 9th sailing is now going to Roatán, Honduras; Cozumel, Mexico; and Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Vision of the Seas – September 9, 2023 sailing

Vision of the Seas is sailing from Baltimore and will depart as scheduled.

Instead of going to Bermuda, Vision will go to Perfect Day at CocoCay on Day 3 and Nassau, Bahamas on Day 4.

Monitoring the hurricane

Royal Caribbean employs its own full-time meteorologist to help track the path of the storm.

Craig Setzer has been Royal Caribbean’s Chief Meteorologist since August and is involved with the National Hurricane Center, teaching at World Meteorological Organization workshops, and presenting at American Meteorological Society conferences around the country.

Guests on ships with revised itineraries were informed by Aurora Yera-Rodriguez, the Assistant Vice President of Guest Experience for Royal Caribbean International, how the company is making these changes: “Along with our Chief Meteorologist and nautical experts, we’re closely monitoring the development of Hurricane Lee and any potential impacts to our itineraries.”

The path of Lee

Most weather experts are calling for Lee to make a turn to the north, but it’s unclear when that may occur.

Hurricane Lee is about 440 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The hurricane is moving west, northwest at 13 mph, and is forecast to pass to the north of the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico over the weekend and into early next week.

According to Mr. Setzer, the uncertainty occurs when & where the turn to the north takes place on Wednesday. A sooner turn, a more likely recurve (out to sea), a later turn/faster motion before the turn, a less likely recurve (out to sea).

“I cannot stress this point enough. Until that turn takes place, and we observe where it happens, we will not know exactly who in the US, Canada, Bermuda will be impacted, or if impacted at all,” he posted in a tweet on Friday .

He was also quite blunt about providing any kind of accurate predictions, “With that in mind, there is no need to ask me about your specific area and its threat, because I have no idea, nor does anyone else.”

A METEOROLOGIST SHARES

Why cruising is safe during hurricane season, james van fleet, the first chief meteorologist in the cruise industry, gives us five reasons why it's still a good time to cruise during hurricane season..

Great vacations are made up of adventures, memorable moments and ideal weather. However, we all know the weather can be unpredictable. What if we told you there’s a vacation you could take and have zero worries about the forecast literally raining on your parade? That vacation is a cruise —yes, really.

No matter the weather that’s brewing, you can count on catching perfect waves on the FlowRider surf simulator and braving the tallest slide at sea when you’re on a Royal Caribbean cruise. Cruise ships easily travel from one place to the next, meaning they can conveniently ditch bad weather at a moment’s notice. Take it from James Van Fleet, Royal Caribbean’s chief meteorologist and the first in the cruise industry . He keeps an eye on our 25-plus ships and two private destinations around the clock, so that you can keep the good times rolling.

Read on for five reasons why it’s safe to cruise during hurricane season, according to Chief Meteorologist Van Fleet:

cruise ships in the path of hurricane lee

Royal Caribbean Chief Meteorologist Van Fleet records frequent weather updates during hurricane season.

1.  Cruise Ships Are a Safe Place to Be

One of the best parts about taking a cruise vacation is that you can easily head to better weather—think sun, sand and a cocktail in hand. And as you’re headed toward clearer skies, there are plenty of ways you and the whole family can enjoy yourselves—like watching jaw-dropping shows across air, water, ice and stage to roller skating, laser tag and bumper cars.

Van Fleet: A common misconception is that the open water is the most dangerous place to be in inclement weather. It’s actually the total opposite: If a storm is coming your way on land, you have fewer options. Your home is a potential target that can’t be moved. On a cruise ship, captains can sail out of the way—and quickly. Having a dedicated meteorologist working with the teams on board to look at weather patterns and make real-time decisions makes all the difference, too, because we’re able to get in front of what’s developing and immediately communicate that to our crew and guests.

2.  The Ocean Is Actually Calmer During Hurricane Season

When asked if the seas are rougher during  hurricane season , Van Fleet said there’s no need to worry.

Van Fleet: That’s actually a myth. In fact, the high-pressure and humid temperatures associated with hurricane season settle the seas. The Atlantic Ocean, the  Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico are all much calmer in the summer than they are in the winter. So, it’s actually still a good time to take a cruise.

3.  Ships Have Stabilizers For Smooth Sailing

Even if the conditions do happen to get choppy, every Royal Caribbean ship has features and capabilities to help things go as smoothly as possible so that you’ll hardly notice .

Van Fleet: For example, all Royal Caribbean cruise ships have stabilizers that act like airplane wings. When you think about it, air is water vapor, so these stabilizers essentially lift the ship over waves the same way a wing lifts a plane over rough air. This keeps the “rise and fall” from being too noticeable.

James Van Fleet

4.  There’s ‘Round the Clock Weather Tracking

Royal Caribbean uses sophisticated technology , from computers and satellites to radars and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), to track and monitor weather around the world. Van Fleet even keeps portable tracking devices with him at all times.

Van Fleet: What’s more, there are  officers on board always monitoring information provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). They’re stationed throughout the ship to make sure everyone is safe should inclement weather arise.

5.  You’ll Get Frequent Updates

Van Fleet and the crew make it a point to keep everyone in the loop as much as possible so that guests know what to expect when it comes to updates and possible rerouting.

Van Fleet: The captain will make weather announcements, and I record forecast videos that play in every stateroom. I also rely on social media to give updates—it’s one of the fastest ways to connect with everyone. If you follow me on Twitter , you’ll get the latest and greatest directly from me, too.

On a Royal Caribbean cruise, the forecast is always smooth sailing. Whether you’re looking to kick back by the pool with a cocktail and live music, take on thrills like the RipCord by iFly skydiving simulator or get a taste of the world of flavors on board, the weather will be an afterthought.

Hurricane Lee tracker: Maps, path as storm heads toward Caribbean

Long-range models can change over the next week, but they currently show Lee moving parallel to the eastern U.S. coastline.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Hurricane Lee, now churning over the Atlantic Ocean, is forecast to rapidly intensify to an extremely dangerous major hurricane.

Lee, which strengthened from a tropical storm to a hurricane on Wednesday, could become a major Category 3 hurricane by Friday and a high-end Category 4 hurricane with winds up to 155 mph by Saturday.

The storm is currently headed west, located east of the Leeward Islands.

Lee is expected to move north of the Caribbean Islands over the weekend, sparing the islands any direct impacts other than rough surf and rip currents.

By next week, the spaghetti models show the storm turning north before reaching Turks and Caicos. Bermuda may be in Lee's path.

Long-range models can change over the next week, but they currently show Lee moving parallel to the eastern United States coastline. If Lee stays on that course, the East Coast wouldn't see direct impacts, but would be hit with large surf and rip currents by late next week.

Hurricane Lee's path and timeline: Meteorologists project when and where the storm will hit

By Kerry Breen

Updated on: September 16, 2023 / 4:55 PM EDT / CBS News

Update: Lee made landfall in Canada.

Former  Hurricane Lee  was lashing New England and southeastern Canada on Saturday after it became a post-tropical cyclone. Watches and warnings are up for the coastal areas of Maine, New Hampshire and the Canadian Maritime Provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Lee's effects were already being felt along the southeast U.S. coastline, and forecasters said Lee would make its presence felt with "hazardous surf and rip current conditions" at beaches along the western Atlantic all week.

Lee rapidly intensified over the  Atlantic Ocean's very warm waters  late last week, swelling into a powerful  Category 5  hurricane before its wind speeds started to decline.

Where is Lee heading?

As of 2 p.m. EDT on Saturday, Lee had maximum sustained winds of 70 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Hurricane-force winds were extending up to 140 miles from the center of Lee and tropical-storm-force winds were extending up to 390 miles from the center. The center of the storm was about 80 miles south-southeast of Eastport, Maine, and about 150 miles west-southwest of Halifax, Nova Scotia, according to the hurricane center. Lee was moving north at 22 mph.

A map from the National Hurricane Center shows the probable path for the center of Post-Tropical Cyclone Lee as of 2 p.m. EDT on Sept. 16, 2023.

"The center of Lee is forecast to make landfall in Atlantic Canada later this afternoon," the hurricane center wrote. "Lee is then expected to turn toward the northeast and move across Atlantic Canada tonight and Sunday."

A hurricane watch is in effect for parts of southeastern Canada.

A tropical storm warning was in effect from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, north to the U.S.-Canada border and parts of southeastern Canada.

  • How do hurricanes get their names? A look at the naming process and 2023's full list of storms

Where will Lee make landfall?

According to the hurricane center, Lee is expected to make landfall in southeastern Canada on Saturday.

CBS Boston meteorologists reported  Friday with "high confidence" that the center of Lee is expected to pass about 200 miles east of southern New England Saturday morning, likely as a minimal Category 1 hurricane, transitioning to an extra-tropical, nor'easter-type storm.

President Biden issued an emergency declaration for the state of Maine late Thursday, ahead of the Lee's arrival, that will free up resources from the Federal Emergency Management Agency "to coordinate all disaster relief efforts."

Will Hurricane Lee hit Massachusetts?

Lee is expected to move up the coast of Massachusetts without making landfall in the state — but coastal areas will feel the effects of the storm.

CBS Boston reported the "greatest impact will be felt on the Lower and Outer Cape and on Nantucket."

"If you live on the Cape of Massachusetts or Maine, keep a close eye on Lee as we head into the weekend," Weather Channel meteorologist Stephane Abrams said Tuesday on "CBS Mornings."

"The exact positioning of the storm and level of impacts we'll see in the U.S. will be determined in part by high pressure off to the east and a trough off to the west," she said. "If Lee ends up farther west, we could have stronger winds, heavier rain, larger swells and coastal flooding. If it slides more east, the impacts would be less intense."

Inland areas, away from the coast, are expected to see very little rain and just some gusty wind, the station reported.

Will Hurricane Lee hit New York?

New York is not expected to take a direct hit, but  CBS New York reports Long Island shore towns are preparing for potential effects from the storm. High surf, dangerous rip currents and beach erosion are likely to be the biggest threats there.

"We've had crews for the last week, and they will be out all weekend long securing these waterways, building up these areas to try and preserve our beaches," Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin told the station.

Gov. Kathy Hochul also deployed 50 National Guard members to Long Island to help prepare for the storm.

Hurricane Lee spaghetti models

Spaghetti weather models, or spaghetti plots, are computer models showing the possible paths a storm may take as it develops. These models don't predict the impact or when a storm may hit,  according to the Weather Channel , but focus on showing which areas might potentially be at risk.

Spaghetti models for Hurricane Lee mostly showed the storm traveling over the Atlantic as it heads northward, closing the gap near northern New England. A  spaghetti model for Lee created Tuesday, seen below, showed most projected paths skirting along the U.S. coast at least up to New England, with a potential impact along the northern New England coast or Canadian Maritimes late this week.

A spaghetti model showing the potential paths of Hurricane Lee

Another set was posted by The Weather Channel's Jim Cantore Monday, who wrote : "Recent trends from model guidance have brought #Lee back west enough so that it has put southeastern New England in the NHC track cone. It should be noted that track guidance can error by hundreds of miles for this time out 5-6 days. That said, Lee will likely be an expanding…"

What are the hurricane category wind speeds?

Hurricanes are rated on the  Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale , which includes five categories based on the storm's sustained wind speeds. Here is a look at how the categories break down and how the National Hurricane Center describes the potential level of damage such storms can cause if they make landfall:

Category 1:  Sustained wind speed of 74-95 mph      "Very dangerous winds will produce some damage"

Category 2: Sustained wind speed of 96-110 mph      "Extremely dangerous winds will cause extensive damage"

Category 3: Sustained wind speed of 111-129 mph       "Devastating damage will occur"

Category 4:  Sustained wind speed of 130-156 mph       "Catastrophic damage will occur"

Category 5: Sustained wind speed of 157 mph or higher        "Catastrophic damage will occur"

Any storm of Category 3 or higher is considered a "major hurricane" with the potential for "significant loss of life and damage."

How Hurricanes Idalia and Franklin Are Impacting Cruise Schedules

Update (Wednesday, August 30 @ 10:15 A.M. Central):

cruise ships in the path of hurricane lee

After rapidly strengthening, Hurricane Idalia made landfall on the gulf coast of Florida this morning. However the impact on the state — and cruises — is far from over. As of now, several ports are closed as they wait for the storm to pass.

Below, we have a number of updates on trips impacted by the weather.

Carnival Sunshine: Carnival says the current sailing from Charleston is sailing its scheduled route. With the port currently closed, the cruise line still hopes to sail the upcoming September 2 cruise as planned.

Carnival Elation: Sailing from Jacksonville, the ship is “currently at sea, a safe distance from the storm.” Carnival says it will return once an assessment is completed. For passengers on the August 31 sailing, they are asked not to go to the cruise terminal until told to do so. Passengers can sign up for text alerts by texting CCL1 to 278473.

Carnival Liberty: Port Canaveral is currently closed, and Carnival Liberty is at sea, away from the storm. It is hoped that the September 1 cruise can sail as planned.

Carnival Paradise: This ship sails from Tampa, where the port is closed at this time. The ship will return once the storm passes and it is cleared to enter. Guests on the August 31 sailing are asked not to go to the port until confirmed by Carnival. Passengers can sign up for text alerts by texting CCL2 to 278473.

Royal Caribbean: The cruise line posted the following message to its guests as of last night:

“Along with our Chief Meteorologist Craig Setzer, we’re currently watching the development of multiple weather systems. There are no changes as of now, but we are committed to keeping you informed as the situation evolves. As always, please know that the safety and comfort of our guests are always our highest priority. Please check back for any potential changes.”

Update (Monday, August 28 @ 5:30 P.M. Central):

Tropical Storm Idalia is now near hurricane strength with sustained winds of 70 miles per hour. The storm is expected to pick up speed as it moves north and continue strengthening. Now it is predicted to become a major hurricane before making landfall in Florida.

Carnival has adjusted the schedule of two ships more in response.

Carnival Conquest , which departed today for a four-day cruise, will now visit Bimini on Tuesday, have a day at sea on Wednesday and visit Nassau on Thursday. Originally the ship was slated to visit Key West and Cozumel.

Carnival Valor cancelled a stop in Costa Maya today, but will visit Cozumel tomorrow.

We will continue to watch for more updates.

Original Article:

As the tropics heat up following what’s been a record-hot summer for much of North America, the impact on cruises ramps up as well.

Last week, Hurricane Hilary led to impacts on the West Coast. Now, two storms look to impact cruises in the Caribbean and Atlantic .

Hurricane Franklin currently churns in the Atlantic, north of the Dominican Republic and east of The Bahamas. With maximum sustained winds of 100 miles per hour, Franklin is expected to strengthen, with many storm models pointing to a Category 3 storm with winds of 111-129 miles per hour.

cruise ships in the path of hurricane lee

The storm is currently moving northwest, but is expected to turn out toward sea, putting it dangerously close to Bermuda starting Tuesday night and into Wednesday.

Roughly 1,000 miles away between the tip of the Yucatan and Cuba, another storm is brewing.

Tropical Storm Idalia has just been upgraded from a tropical depression, now with maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour. From there, Idalia is forecasted to strengthen into a hurricane on Tuesday as it moves moves toward the gulf coast of Florida.

cruise ships in the path of hurricane lee

Both storms are in places where they can have an impact on cruise itineraries, and in some cases they already are. Your cruise line will be in touch with the latest updates , but here is what we know as of now.

Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival has told us they are monitoring both storms and have already made some adjustments to itineraries due to Hurricane Franklin.

Carnival Magic: Originally set to sail from Norfolk, VA to Bermuda on a six-day cruise, Carnival Magic will now instead sail to Half Moon Cay, Nassau and Freeport to steer clear of Hurricane Franklin.

Carnival Legend: Similar to Carnival Magic, Legend was slated to sail from Baltimore on a six-day cruise to Bermuda. Instead, it will now visit Nassau and Freeport.

A Carnival spokesperson also told us “The safety of our guests and crew is our priority, and we are continuing to monitor forecasts and factor in guidance from the National Hurricane Center, U.S. Coast Guard and the local port authorities to provide timely updates to our guests as more information becomes available.”

Looking at current itineraries and schedules, we think possible impacted ships could include Carnival Vista and Carnival Glory, which are set to sail to the Yucatan near the projected path of Idalia.

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean has multiple ships sailing toward the area of Tropical Storm Idalia, including Voyager of the Seas and Grandeur of the Seas.

As of now, however, there are no updates to the schedule announced by the cruise line. Itinerary updates can be found here .

Other Cruise Lines (Disney, Virgin, Norwegian)

There are a number of other lines that are either visiting ports that could be impacted by a storm, or the weather is between the ship and a scheduled port.

For instance, Norwegian Pearl’s itinerary calls for it to visit Bermuda, which will likely feel the effects of Hurricane Franklin. Scarlet Lady is scheduled to sail from Miami to Costa Maya, which would put in in the path of Idalia. Disney Fantasy is scheduled to visit Cozumel tomorrow morning according to CruiseMapper.com .

We’ve contacted Norwegian Cruise Line for details of any possible changes and have yet to hear back. Virgin Voyages and Disney Cruise Lines show no itinerary updates as of now.

Again, your cruise line will be in touch if there are any schedule updates . We will continue to check periodically for any announced cruise schedule changes due to the weather.

What happened to bruno duarte after below deck season 5.

Bruno Duarte didn’t get along with Captain Lee or Kate Chastain on Below Deck season 5. What’s the former deckhand been up to since leaving the show?

  • Bruno clashed with Captain Lee and Chief Stew Kate, calling his time on Below Deck "horrible".
  • Bruno faced tension with Captain Lee due to his accent and was forced to drink alcohol.
  • After leaving Below Deck, Bruno married Alex and focused on building a new business venture together.

Below Deck season 5 star Bruno Duarte has been keeping busy since appearing on the Bravo reality television series in 2017. Bruno wanted to join Below Deck season 5 because he was a fan of the show. He previously worked on cruise ships and had his first stint yachting on the show as a deckhand. Bruno worked hard during his time on Below Deck season 5, but he didn’t get along with Captain Lee Rosbach or Chief Stew Kate Chastain . Some Below Deck fans think Kate is a bad Chief Stew , and Bruno has echoed this since his exit.

Bruno was a one-and-done Below Deck crew member. Bruno’s time on the show was mixed, though he wasn’t one of the most forgettable Below Deck deckhands . He is remembered for sharing his story about losing his twin brother and living with an abusive father. Bruno showed true tenacity on Below Deck season 5 and continues to share his experience. He hasn’t returned to the franchise since Below Deck season 5 , but that doesn’t mean he’s closed the reality TV door completely.

8 Below Deck Bosuns Who Should've Been Fired But Weren't

Bruno didn't have the best experience on below deck, he clashed with captain lee & kate chastain.

Bruno’s experience on Below Deck season 5 was rough. He has publicly talked about how he, Captain Lee, and Kate clashed throughout the season. Bruno wanted to join Below Deck because he was a fan of the show. However, once he started working on the superyacht, he said working there was much different than what is portrayed in the show. On a podcast episode of Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef , Bruno alleged that Captain Lee treated him badly because he wasn’t “ American ” and made fun of his accent.

“Captain Lee would make jokes about my accent. It was very, very uncomfortable sometimes to be with him.”

Bruno alleged that Captain Lee forced him to drink alcohol on Below Deck season 5 when he knew that Bruno didn’t drink. During an off-duty dinner, while filming, Bruno said Captain Lee made him have a few bites of a dessert with alcohol in it . Bruno said this felt like “ harassment ” and said the moment was as if Captain Lee was metaphorically “ spitting ” on him. “ Just the fact that you have a person like him, a captain that does that to a crew member… then forces you to have two spoons of that dessert, which doesn’t make sense, ” Bruno admitted.

Bruno didn’t get along with Chief Stew Kate, either. On Marc MacNamara and Arthur Hill’s Discretion Advised Podcast , Bruno said his time on Below Deck season 5 with Captain Lee and Kate was “ horrible .” He added that before working with Kate, he liked her. However, the experience of being onboard with Kate was extremely different and made him want to “ run out… really fast, far away .” He said that he tried to “ avoid ” Kate when walking by her because it was “ dangerous .”

Bruno Took A Different Career Path (At Least At The Time)

What has bruno been doing for work since below deck.

Bruno pursued a different career path after Below Deck season 5. After Below Deck, Bruno left reality TV and pursued a different avenue in the adult entertainment industry. According to Edge Media Network , Bruno became an adult entertainer. He used to take part in adult entertainment with his ex-fiance. It’s unclear if Bruno is still working as an adult entertainer in 2024.

Bruno's Journey On Below Deck

Bruno was on one season of bravo’s yachting show.

Bruno was a deckhand on Below Deck season 5. During his time on Below Deck , he was loved for his honesty. Hailing from Lisbon, Portugal, Bruno explained that he had a rough childhood . He dealt with the loss of his twin brother and an abusive father, according to his profile on Bravo TV . Bruno was expected to grow up quickly and worked as a restaurant waiter. He enjoyed working in hospitality, which led him to work his way into working at five-star hotels. Bruno then began working on cruise ships in guest services and guest relations.

Bruno was a hard worker and was good at his job on Below Deck; however, he had a rough time aboard as he clashed with Captain Lee and Chief Stew Kate. Allegedly, Bruno almost lost his leg during an accident onboard. On the Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef podcast, Bruno alleged that his ankle got caught in a propeller during filming and producers carried on normally . He said that Captain Lee didn’t care about the accident either.

"Oh no, no, he didn't care at all. It would look at me as like, yeah, you got one leg. It can work."

Bruno added that instead of Captain Lee checking in on him, production would ask if he was okay throughout the filming of Below Deck season 5 . “ The [producers] would come to me and ask me if I was okay, even if they knew that they couldn't talk to me, ” he said. Bruno said that Below Deck season 5 was “ tricky and intense ” and not the experience he thought he was going to have as a fan of the show. Since then, he has not come back to Below Deck or any of its spin-offs.

Will Bruno Ever Return To Below Deck?

Is he done with the franchise for good.

It’s unlikely that Bruno will ever return to the Below Deck franchise. In an interview with Hot Spot Magazine , Bruno said he wanted to appear in another “ adventure reality [TV] show ” but probably not on Below Deck . “ I think that show is over for me, ” he said. Bruno has stated that he was a fan of Below Deck before appearing on it. With Kate retiring after Below Deck season 7 , Bruno wouldn’t have to cross paths with his former Chief Stew. Bruno said he would probably not return to Below Deck , but other crew members have said the same.

What Is Bruno Up To In 2024?

Bruno married his husband alex.

Since leaving Below Deck season 5, Bruno has married his partner Alex V . Bruno met Alex at a gay bar in Cannes, France, with his ex-fiance and felt an instant connection with Alex, according to Hot Spot Magazine. Bruno also revealed he left yachting to focus his attention on his relationship with Alex. “ I left my job in the yachting industry to be present in our relationship and since then we’ve been traveling and living our dreams, ” he said. Alex added that in 2024, they were focused on starting a new business venture together.

Bruno and Alex were featured in the 2024 spring campaign for ES Collection USA. As part of their collaboration, Bruno and Alex post content modeling ES’ selection of men’s luxury clothing on Instagram. “ All of the modeling work has been driven by our social media ,” Alex said. Bruno has been busy cultivating a marriage with Alex since the show. It’s clear his life hasn’t slowed down since appearing on Below Deck , one of the best reality TV shows right now .

Bruno had a terrible time on Below Deck season 5 due to his relationships with Captain Lee and Chief Stew Kate. Since leaving the show, he has said the working environment onboard was “ horrible ” and that he wouldn’t return to Below Deck . In the meantime, Bruno has been focused on growing his career and building his relationship with his husband, Alex.

Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.
