Comic Dave Chappelle Coming Home for 4 Shows in October

Legendary comedian and Montgomery County native Dave Chappelle will host four shows at the Lincoln Theatre in Washington D.C. in October.

Born in D.C., Chappelle grew up in Silver Spring, attending Woodlin Elementary School.

Chappelle will host four shows from Tuesday, Oct. 10, to Friday, Oct. 13.

The general public sale of tickets go live Friday at 10 A.M. on Ticketmaster.

Update: As of 1 p.m., all four shows have been sold out on Ticketmaster.

Comedian Dave Chappelle to make 4-night stop in DC during sold-out shows this fall

WASHINGTON (7News) — Comedian and D.C. native Dave Chappelle is set to make a four-night stop in the District this fall as part of his standup comedy tour.

Chappelle will bring his tour, called "Dave Chappelle Live: It's a Celebration, B!%?#&$!" to Lincoln Theatre, located on U Street Northwest on Oct. 10-13 at 7:30 p.m.

At last check on Sunday, tickets for all four nights are sold out .

Chappelle was recognized in 2019 as the recipient of the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

He joins Adam Sandler on the list of famous comedians with planned tour stops in Washington.

Dave Chapelle Announces Several DC Tour Dates

Dave Chappelle will be performing at the Lincoln Theater (1215 U St) in DC from October 10-13. Tickets for the shows went on sale on this morning and immediately sold out.  Dave Chapelle grew up in Silver Spring, attending Woodlin Elementary School before attending Duke Ellington School of the Arts in DC.

According to Ticketmaster, “THIS IS A CELL PHONE FREE EVENT. We’re making shared memories. With your confirmation, you agree to place your phone in a locked pouch which you keep throughout the evening. If you need to use your phone, return to the distribution tent at the entrance. Anyone caught using a cell phone during the show will be immediately ejected. Live Special Taping. Please arrive on time. Admittance is not guaranteed after taping begins.”

Dave Chappelle Drops Trailer for Netflix Special ‘The Dreamer,’ Out New Year’s Eve

Dave Chappelle has dropped the trailer for his new Netflix comedy special The Dreamer, out on December 31.

On Sunday, the comedian released a trailer for the special, featuring Morgan Freeman delivering one of his trademark voiceovers as Chappelle takes the stage. “What do you dream about? Not the ones when you go to sleep; the ones you hold in your heart,” Freeman asks in the teaser. “Don’t be intimidated by the audacity of your dream. Be inspired by it.”

The trailer then cuts to Chappelle and Freeman watching The Dreamer together, with Freeman’s narration continuing, “What happens to a dream deferred? Lucky for Dave, he doesn’t know.”

The hour-long The Dreamer , recorded at a stop at the Lincoln Theater in Chappelle’s hometown of Washington, D.C., reunites the comedian with director Stan Lathan, who helmed his previous six Netflix specials.

In The Closer , Chappelle also waded into the  controversy surrounding DaBaby , who was criticized for his homophobic remarks at the Rolling Loud festival and subsequently removed from several festival dates.  Chappelle said  that he wanted to “negotiate the release of DaBaby” with the LGBTQ community. He then went on to question why DaBaby was canceled for his homophobic comments rather than for shooting a man in the past.

It’s unclear if The Dreamer will boast similarly controversial bits, but Netflix said of the special in its description, “From his onstage tackle to the slap heard round the world, Dave Chappelle lets loose in this freewheeling and unfiltered stand-up comedy special,” suggesting topics include when the comedian was assaulted onstage at the Hollywood Bowl as well as Will Smith’s Oscars slap of Chris Rock.

‘Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer': Morgan Freeman Featured In Netflix's Comedy Special Trailer

Dave Chappelle is back on Netflix with a new comedy special that drops on Dec. 31 and features Morgan Freeman.

Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer was filmed in the comic's hometown of Washington D.C. at the historic Lincoln Theater.

"What do you dream about? Not the dreams you have in your sleep, the ones you hold in your heart," Freeman's voice is heard saying in the trailer. "Don't be intimidated by the audacity of your dream - be inspired by it."

Emmy Award-winning director Stan Lathan returns to direct The Dreamer, having directed all seven of Chappelle's Netflix specials.

Chappelle has received five Emmy awards including three for his Netflix comedy special Sticks & Stones (2019) and Equanimity & The Bird Revelation (2017), and two for hosting Saturday Night Live .

The comedian is a four-time Grammy winner for The Closer, Sticks & Stones, Equanimity & The Bird Revelation , and The Age Of Spin & Deep In The Heart Of Texas .

Chappelle most recently received his fifth Grammy nomination for What's in a Name .

His comedy tour received the Pollstar Award in 2023, 2018 and 2014. The stand-up comedian also received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2019.

Chappelle is set to open a comedy & music club in Yellow Springs, Ohio in early 2024.

Acclaimed comedian, actor, screenwriter and producer  Dave Chappelle  announces the distinctive stand-up comedy tour   is coming to Capital One Arena on November 30th .  The much-anticipated tour marks a significant, golden milestone year for the comedic genius and Chappelle is thrilled to share the celebration with audiences across the nation. The general onsale begins on Wednesday, October 11th at 10 AM ET.

This event will be a phone-free experience. Use of phones, smart watches and accessories will not be permitted in the performance space.   Upon arrival at the venue, all phones, smart watches and accessories will be secured in individual Yondr pouches that will be opened at the end of the event. Guests maintain possession of their devices at all times, and can access them throughout the event only in designated Phone Use Areas within the venue. All devices will be re-secured in Yondr pouches before returning to the performance space.   Anyone seen using a device (phone, smart watch or accessories) during the performance will be escorted out of the venue by security. We appreciate your cooperation in creating a phone-free experience.

Dave Chappelle  is an award-winning American comedian, screenwriter, television and film producer, and actor. Recognized as one of the greatest comedians of all time, Chappelle is the 2019 recipient of the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Chappelle’s work has earned him more than 30 nominations and awards in television and film for projects that include his groundbreaking sketch comedy television series  Chappelle’s Show,  comedy specials, and guest appearances on  Saturday Night Live .
