I thoroughly enjoyed my trip. Tour guide in Beijing was excellent and knowledgedable. Only complain changes in itinerary, since some of us had made plans for scheduled days off itinerary. Also activities were too rushed. Sometimes, I was too tired to enjoy the activity. But overall has a great experience.

The best trip I've ever been on Accommodation and flights are included, but it is affordable and includes all services needed during the itinerary. 7 day tour Turkey - don’t!

7 day tour Turkey - Istanbul, Ankara and Cappadocea. The organisation was very poor. Meet and greet at the airport was invisible. Times of trips were altered without notice, and the entire itinerary was changed without us being told. We spent 1 1/2 hours in a minibus waiting while the driver, guide and office argued about the sequence of dropoff for a planned transfer from airport to hotel. When approached about this the Exoticca office were dismissive and arrogant. They were similarly rigid and unhelpful when we requested a later return to the airport for our flight home - they insisted in transferring us so we arrived over 4 hours early in spite of having checked in and travelling with hand luggage only. Some meals were pre booked but were dreadful. Hotels were satisfactory and some guides were good. I will be hesitant about using Exoticca again after this experience.

Returned from a trip to Ecuador

Returned from a trip to Ecuador, Alex our tour guide in Quito & Tena was brilliant. Really passionate about Ecuador and its history and so much knowledge. Saw a lot of various sights, including the forest walk. The Galapagos Island are beautiful, although marked by lack of tour rep. Guayaquil again we felt abandoned, although Eddie who conducted the walking tour was brilliant, and gave us a lot of the information we didn’t get in The Galapagos

Morocco Grand Tour

Our trip to Morocco was very well planned and thought out adventure from the moment of our arrival all the way to departure from the airport. I have done 4-5 group tours in the past but the Morocco trip was the best of all. Our local guide, Mohammed is a gem of a person who went over and beyond to make the trip very special and memorable. He is very knowledgeable, calm, helpful and insightful. If I could, I would give more stars rating to Mohammed for his amazing performance throughout the trip! Thanks Mohammed!!

Great trip to Portugal

We were a group of 30 going to Portugal for 9 days. Had a great time. Our tour guide Sebastian was great. So knowledgeable, punctual, and always in good spirits. Our driver Daniel took us safely everywhere. Both made a great team. Hotels were good and centrally located. Good variety in the buffet breakfasts. The Fado show and the Douro Boat tour are highly recommended.

Just returned from a trip to Ecuador on Exoticca's 360 trip and it was one of the best trips ever; Edison was our guide and we had 10 days of bliss seeing the Andes and volcanoes and craters, the Amazon, the amazing culture and towns and beautiful countryside before heading to Galapagos which did not disappoint. 10 day grand tour and kasbah in Morocco

Just returned home from a fantastic 10 day tour of Morocco organised through Exoticca. What an amazing trip, during the 10 days we have seen so much of Morocco and learnt so much about it's history and culture. Our guide, Mohammed Mahfoud, was exceptional, his knowledge and his care was above anything we would ever had hoped for. Exoticca provided excellent communication every step of the booking process and holiday. We could not fault. The days were long, but we're incredibly interesting, especially thanks to Mohammed. Wonderful experience for the most part!

The tour manager arranged by Exoticca was amazing - Dalida with Katrina Line. Exoticca made all arrangements, hotels were outstanding, and the places visited were beautiful. The air-conditioned luxury tour buses had friendly drivers, the breakfasts provided by the hotels rivaled the immense buffets as seen on cruise ships and the people everywhere were very friendly. Two words of caution - make sure your connecting flight to Croatia has at least two hours between the first flight landing and boarding of the connecting flight. We were supposed to have a 1 1/2 hour window between flights but our first flight landed when the connecting flight was boarding, and it was clear across the Istanbul airport (no tram). We ended up missing our connecting flight, basically losing a whole day of sightseeing in Dubrovnik. The other thing is, when you are warned of areas where there are pickpockets, do not treat that word or advice lightly. Zagreb is notorious for pickpockets, and my husband was a victim, having gotten careless after lunch and putting his wallet in his back pocket.

We had a great tour in Switzerland

We had a great tour in Switzerland. Our guide, Giorgio was informative, friendly and kept our group laughing. Our driver was on time and safe. Tour highlights were our castle tours and beautiful travels in the Alps. There always seemed to be enough time for cup of coffee or a glass of wine at an outdoor cafe during our stops. The hotels were cozy and some had very nice views and we always had a hearty breakfast. Thanks Exoticca for a wonderful vacation.

Super experience

Super experience. Select where you want to go, the activities you want to experience when there, pass on what you don’t want. App gives you ALL of the info in a very friendly manner (flights, gates, contact numbers, daily itinerary, links to destinations, what to expect upon arrival, any updates, etc.). In 9dys, we saw 4 major cities across Italy, traveling via a dedicated vehicle for each leg. Nice because we could leave bags, coats, etc. when exploring.

Breathtaking views

The fjords of Norway are truly breathtaking! The scenic beauty of the fjords, with their steep cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and picturesque villages, is a sight to behold. We had a wonderful time exploring the fjords, by taking a boat tour. We visited some of the most popular fjords in Norway include the Aurlandsfjord, Naeroyrfjord, and my favorite Lysefjord. Each one has its own unique charm and attractions.

Exotica Tours Rock!!

We were very impressed with our trip to Greece with Exotica. It was well organized, we had some great guided tours, there was always a Rep waiting at the airport or ferry ports to transfer us to our hotel and the hotels were 4 star. They hotel locations were all within walking distance to beach (on certain islands), restaurants, shopping and local markets. We bought beer and wine for our room plus items to make sandwiches for our travel/ferry days.

A fantastic trip

We just completed a 10 day trip to Ethiopia, It was amazing. We were a little worried about safety but it was needless. The trip was well planned and great. Ethiopia touched our hearts and stirred our souls. The stone churches in Lalibela were awe inspiring and a must see in your life. The castles in Gondar and the tribes in Omo valley were fascinating. Be prepare for heat in the south. Our tour guide, Chris, was the best guide we have had. His passion and understanding for the country was great. He made the trip wonderful. Everything went smoothly and everyone was friendly and accommodating. We didn’t want to leave! We did take an extra day and did a city tour of Addis Ababa. It was also great. Don’t miss this cosmopolitan and interesting city. Make sure to visit the museum. Lucy is there! It was a absolutely fantastic tour and time. Go to Ethiopia, you won’t regret it!

Disappointing communication

My family just returned from a trip throughout Peru. While our guides were amazing and knowledgeable, we were greeted with a new face daily. This became a problem because many times we didn’t know our schedules until the morning of. The most egregious of examples would be our arrival at Cuzco. Our guide dropped us off at around 5:00 pm and informed us we would know by 7:00 pm our plans for the next day (which was our bus and train transfer to Machu Picchu, the whole reason for the trip). We were informed at around 8:00 pm that there would be a meeting in the hotel lobby with our next guide at 9:00. Not a big deal but we did just get off the bus after spending 10 hours on it with stops. 9:30 came and went and the guide notified the front desk worker via text that we would need to be down in the lobby for our bus at 4:10 am, in 6 hours! Not a big deal for an adult but for the children on the trip this is a problem. We went back up to our room and fell asleep until 10:20 pm to which we were woken up by a telephone call to tell us we would actually need to get down to the lobby at 4:50am. This really put a damper on a day that, while it turned out to be a wonderful life changing experience, could have been better by receiving proper communication and frankly proper effort put in by a company we paid a substantial amount of money to. We won’t be using this service in the future.

This trip was a total disappointment. Upon arrival in Istanbul, we were told by the transport company who was to take us to our hotel that Exoticca had not paid them & that transportation could not be provided. It was finally straightened out & we were eventually taken to the hotel. No one at the hotel to greet us, no one to talk about the upcoming tour & no apologies from Exoticca The major problem with this tour was that it was run by Euroriente NOT Exoticca. This company is a huge provider of tours in Turkey & they are about quantity not quality. Most of our time was spent on a tour bus. Food stops were very rarely at nice cafes to enjoy local cuisine. They were at gas station rest stops. We were continuously taken to places that tried to sell us goods…carpets, jewelry, leather goods, Turkish delights, ceramics. We got to our hotel at 7 in the evening & up on the bus by 7 am. We were at the Agean & Mediterranean and never stopped in a town to enjoy. Just a short tour of ruins and then back on the bus. The best tour I took was thru Airbnb experience as I had an extra day in Istanbul Save your money and do not take a tour of Turkey thru Exoticca. Our fellow passengers on this tour felt the same way & many of us had travelled with Exoticca to other destinations. Every one of us felt this tour was terrible and we would never travel with Exoticca again I would recommend a different travel company to Turkey.

Get to know exoticca, a tour operator specializing in private and small group tours in destinations like peru, the galapagos, egypt, jordan, greece, thailand, south africa and vietnam..

Travel advisors have a lot of choice when it comes to tour operator partners, but Exoticca’s VP of sales Mike Quinto believes their European style of touring sets them apart from the competition.

“The way we do things differently is we don’t believe in going to see every castle ever built in Ireland. We’re going to see all the major highlights, all the major things you want to see, but then we want to give the clients free time,”   Quinto tells Travel Courier. “We’re kind of like a mix of an escorted tour and FIT — if you put those two together, that’s what our philosophy is.”

For example, in a destination like Rome, after breakfast at the hotel, a tour kicks off with a local guide taking the group to major attractions like the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish steps, and the Pantheon. After wards, free time is built into the itinerary so travellers can opt to continue exploring downtown, embark on an optional excursion like learning how to make an authentic pizza or head back to the hotel to unwind.

“It’s really neat because the clients can see the sights, are led around by a local guide, they get out there, they see the major sites, they learn the history, the culture, they have a guide to ask any questions they want, but then in the afternoons, they can do what they want. If they just want to sit at a table and have a pint of beer and people watch, they can do that.”

Barcelona-based Exoticca first expanded into North America in 2018 and was growing in the market when the pandemic hit. The tour operator relaunched its B2B team in Dec. 2021 to positive reception and has only been growing since then.

“Our average group size is about 14 to 16 people on average. The max group size is 25 for our destinations, but there are certain destinations like Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, where our maximum size is eight people,” says. “We want to make sure that we have those small intimate groups where you can really have a lay of the land and see it through the local’s eyes.”

Tours are available across varying levels of accommodations from three to five star hotels. Along with a main guide leading the group, Exoticca also features local city guides and experts in each destination. A small portion of its portfolio is also self-guided tours.

“This year, the biggest influx in sales we’ve seen is South Africa. South Africa is super hot. We’ve an incredible tour down there. 11 days with flights from Toronto doing game drives, seeing penguins, wineries,” he says. “Your usual suspects are coming back up in the European market right now. Italy is super popular. Croatia, we just launched a brand new product in Croatia. It’s becoming really, really popular. Greece is super hot right now. Portugal, there’s so much. It’s a big, big destination for us right now. And then Asia is picking back up. So Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos. Those areas now are finally starting to come back to market which is great.”

Notably, Quinto points out that there are many perks for travel advisors to work with the tour operator, including commission on all aspects of bookings, including air.

“We’re trying to do whatever we can to help out agents right now. So first things first: we pay top class commissions on everything. We include commission on airfare. We pay anywhere between like 10-16% depending on who you’re with. Also for all agents, all agencies right now, which is amazing, when you make your first booking with Exoticca, on top of your commission, you also get a $200 bonus commission right now for your first booking, which is really cool,” he shares.

And for travel advisors looking to experience the product firsthand, there are multiple FAM trip opportunities available this year. One just wrapped up in the Galapagos and two take off this month to Jordan and Egypt.

“August is to South Africa. September is Vietnam. October is Peru and Portugal is in November and we still have some seats left on the fams which is super exciting,” he notes, adding that agents should follow the Exoticca Pro Travel group on Facebook for all the details. “Each fam is gonna go out with about 20 travel agents, which is a little bit larger than our average group size, but we’ve had such demand, we want the agents to experience it because once they go out there and see what it’s really like, it is the new style of touring. It’s quite amazing.”

An Unforgettable Travel Experience!just moved…

My trip to Sri Lanka in May just moved to the top of my ever favorite travel experiences! The country is stunning; the people so hospitable; the services and over-all planning in sites we saw was top-rate. I loved seeing at least 5 of the 8 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. A trip I will remember...

My husband and I went to Norway for a week. A pleasant surprise was only 14 of us plus the tour guide and the bus driver in a big clean tour bus. The tour guide was very patient, and the bus drive was very nice and experienced. The itinerary was planned quite well. The hotels (mostly 3 stars hotels) were clean, and the ayce breakfast was quite good. I like the third and the fourth nights the most, more like 4 stars. There was a tiny glitch about the train tickets after we arrived at Norway airport, but the customer service responded to us quickly and it got resolved without further delayed. I will definitely do it again with Exoticca.

Exceeded expectations

I was a bit hesitant after booking with Exoticca because the wait to reach customer service was so horribly long, but my hesitation was unfounded after going on the trip. I had an awesome time! The charm hotels were not luxurious but with the exception of one, were clean and well situated. Our guide, Mr. Mohammed Mahfound, was amazing and showed us so much more of Morocco than if we had been on my own. Would definitely book with Exoticca again.

What made my experience great was when I arrived at my destination I did not have a hard time finding the Exotica team. They are very friendly, and helpful. All the highlights of our destinations, no worries about flights and transfers.

The package was very well organized and coordinated. We didn't have to worry about any of the flights and connections. There were always guides at the airports with clear signs for transfers. A couple of the hotels were very nice even in the casual class. All of them were clean and airconditioned. It may be worth upgrading hotels if you are looking for something fancier.

Very organized from airport pickup to…

Very organized from airport pickup to hotels and vice versa. Tours were also organized. Gave us daily itinerary the night before tour and to the next day after the tour of the day. Tour guides and drivers were excellent! The tour guide tried their best to give information about the history of the place we are visiting, the importance and symbol of each place we visited. The driver himself made sure we arrived to our destination the safest possible way.

Super good Guide and bus driver

Everything with exotica was great

Everything with exotica was great! On this trip to Mexico, the only complaint I have is the company Exoticca used in Mexico, some of the touristic guides were not that knowledgeable and did not care to do their job really well. In general the tour organization in Mexico was not the best. Thanks

Japan Trip May 5/2024: Travel light many stairs to climb at train stations with a lot of walking. Most toilets have a bidet & very clean.s

Would use Exoticca again trip to Japan was organized with no issues. We did a partial guided tour.I was impressed agent met us at airport with pkg for tours, train tickets & gave us helpful info. Everything went very smooth while in Japan. Hotels were conventient walking distance to shopping in every city. Warning room in Toyko very tiny especially if you have a big suitcase maybe 2 ft to walk around bed & no closet. Train system is very complicated & busy but very organized and high tech. Not too many people speak english but there are plenty of tourist everywhere. Make use of the free tours in every city. Liquor was cheaper in stores than duty free. Nara Deer Park is a must see experience!! People are quiet on public transportation but our group was chatting and the conductor on bus shooo us to be quiet lol

Disappointing

On 5/2/2024, my husband & I planned to book a trip to Portugal for 8/21-29. Exoticca has offered us a credit discount of $300. I emailed Exoticca to confirm if the discount is per person. Instead, I got a response if we are still interested & to call. Tried calling 3 times but either I was put on a long hold on the phone or could not connect w our contact person. When I checked our desired dates, they are already sold out. Due to inefficient customer service & their delays in responding, the credit voucher has also expired. I was so disappointed. I have now rebooked a different trip without any help from Exoticca’s staff. For future travels, I may have to think twice before using them.

Another fantastic vacation with Exoticca

Iceland was my second booking with Exoticca and it was amazing, as was my first booking to Ecuador. I wanted to do a solo tour but this particular booking wasn't officially available for solo. However, when I contacted Exoticca and said that I wanted to travel solo, they made an exception for me. Iceland was amazing. Our tour guide, Ercla, made it even more special with her incredible knowledge of the history of the island. She was insightful and very entertaining! I had recent trp in Norway through…

I had recent trp in Norway through Exoticca. I arrived in the middle of the night and they changed my hotel. I took a taxi then when I arrived at the hotel the receptionist said that I was booked in another hotel. The receptionist there helped me get a taxi again. I called Exoticca but they were not able to help me iN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT! In the morning, I have learned that most of us had messed up accommodation. I think its a scam that they deliberately messed up our accommodation so that we will not continue and so Exoticca will not refund.

Exoticca Makes A Splash In Canada

Travel advisors have a lot of choice when it comes to tour operator partners, but Exoticca’s VP of sales Mike Quinto believes their European style of touring sets them apart from the competition.

“The way we do things differently is we don’t believe in going to see every castle ever built in Ireland. We’re going to see all the major highlights, all the major things you want to see, but then we want to give the clients free time,” Quinto tells Travel Courier. “We’re kind of like a mix of an escorted tour and FIT — if you put those two together, that’s what our philosophy is.”

For example, in a destination like Rome, after breakfast at the hotel, a tour kicks off with a local guide taking the group to major attractions like the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish steps, and the Pantheon. After wards, free time is built into the itinerary so travellers can opt to continue exploring downtown, embark on an optional excursion like learning how to make an authentic pizza or head back to the hotel to unwind.

“It’s really neat because the clients can see the sights, are led around by a local guide, they get out there, they see the major sites, they learn the history, the culture, they have a guide to ask any questions they want, but then in the afternoons, they can do what they want. If they just want to sit at a table and have a pint of beer and people watch, they can do that.”

“We pay commission on all components”: Exoticca

It’s spelled ‘Exoticca’ with two Cs, just one of many distinctions that sets it apart from other small group tour operators. First launched in 2013 in Barcelona, Exoticca eventually made its way to the United States in 2018 and, finally, Canada in 2019, growing exponentially to the point where North America now accounts for 70% of all global sales. Leading the team in Toronto is Mike Quinto, VP of Sales-Canada, who sat down with Travelweek for this week’s edition of Take 5. From fall booking incentives to travel agent fams, he gives us the rundown of what travel agents need to know.

1. For travel agents who are still unfamiliar with Exoticca, can you give us an overview of what you offer and who you cater to? 

“ Exoticca is a small group tour operator that is able to meet each individual client’s needs, no matter what they are looking for. With Exoticca your clients perfect vacation is only a few clicks away. At Exoticca we don’t believe that one tour suits all, we understand that every client has different needs and expectations, and with us you are able to fine tune our tours to do exactly what your clients want. You pick what tour you want, what dates you want, you pick out the exact flights your clients want, you pick out if your clients want more free time or more optional excursions, you can pick what level of accommodation your clients want, and you can even make the tour private, all with a click of a few buttons. 

“If you haven’t seen our website, it’s one of a kind, and truly separates us from everyone else. We have incredible pricing on our tours. We pay commission on all components including airfare within 30 days of deposit, not when the clients travel. We use local guides, small group tours (16 pax on average), unique and authentic accommodations including castles, palaces, Havelis, Riads, Ryokans, luxury dome tents and more!”

2. What’s one key differentiator about Exoticca that sets it apart from other tour operators in Canada?

“ It’s hard to pinpoint just one key differentiator, however our style of touring allows clients to have guided sightseeing with a local guide in the mornings, while allowing clients to have free time in their afternoons to do what they want in destination. We don’t try to fill up every hour on our tours, we like to see all the major sites with local guides, but then let the clients enjoy their afternoons at leisure, something that is very rare in fully escorted touring.”

3. We’re now in the fall season, typically a slower period. Are you offering any booking incentives/promotions to keep the momentum going?

“Yes we are! We currently have some incredible sales on right now. Clients can go do a 10-day tour of South Africa, with flights for only $2,699. We have a sale on our 9-day Portugal tour, with flights for only $1,899 per person, and our amazing Ecuador and Galapagos 12-day tour is on sale with flights for only $2,999 per person. So there are some incredible deals out there right now for clients. 

“On top of that, we are offering a bonus commission of $200 for agents making their first booking with us. 

“Some great destinations to visit this fall would be going to Iceland and seeing the Northern Lights, or visiting Europe and taking advantage of the amazing Christmas markets that will start to pop up in November. For hot destinations, Peru, Galapagos, Brazil/Argentina, and South East Asia are great places for clients to be travelling to this fall.”

4. What kind of feedback have travellers given you about your tours? And can you give us an example of a suggestion that a traveller has made that you’ve actually taken and implemented to improve operations?

“Currently we have an “Excellent” rating on Trustpilot with over 17,000 certified reviews and an average rating of 4.5/5. We also send an email to each one of our travellers once they get back from their tour with a survey to help improve each of the products we create. 

“The best example I can think of happened about nine months ago, when some customers commented that everything was perfect on our tours. However, they felt the tours were too busy and we had too many included excursions on our trips. So we decided as a company to listen to our clients and offer less included excursions, have some more free time and even full free days. We then decided that on those times or days to offer an Optional Excursion for the travellers who prefer to have all their travelling time fully covered.”

5. What do you want travel agents to know, either about the company or what’s in the pipeline for the remainder of 2023?

“We have some amazing things in the pipeline for the rest of 2023 including releasing our FAM schedule for 2024, a brand new loyalty program for travel agents and – the most exciting thing – a Cross Canada Road show where we are doing a beautiful 4-course plated dinner and certification trainings in 12 cities across Canada. We have just returned from a trip to Cambodia / Vietnam with Exoticca and couldn't have been happier with them as a company. The hotels were all lovely, the guides all spoke good English and were very informative and helpful. All the trips and transfers worked like clockwork. We would recommend Exoticca without hesitation.

Forgive me for being suspicious Lady but you haven;t posted since 2014 and just happen to have found this post about an almost unknow company to sing it's praises.

Despite how highly you write about it you didn't review any of the places involved in that perfect trip.

It sounds a little dubious to me

Have to agree with Toopaz regarding the EXTREMELY well timed review bring perhaps a mite suspicious but I would also go on to google "exoticca holiday reviews". I would also ask about them in the Bargain Holidays forum and the forum of the country they are trying to entice you to. Hope that helps

I can't help but conclude that LadyP has been directed to this specific thread by someone. After all, this is far from being a busy or well known TA forum.

Hello LadyP .. I would like to know more about your trip with Exoticca .. who did you originally book through. We have been offered the same trip to Vietnam & Cambodia with Secret Escapes.

already purchased your air ticket and have resolved that previous issue with Mexicana Airlines ..so you are set to go." I felt bad and was about to give them another $3500 for the trip to the Galapagos when I decided to first call Mexicana. Guess what? Mexicana airlines no longer exists---so now I will have to report them to the BBB! And supposedly I was talking to the person in charge at Exoticca.

Do not use them.
