About Peter Kay
Last Updated: 14th November 2022
Peter Kay is an English actor, comedy writer and stand-up comedian. He has written, produced and acted in several television and film projects, and authored three books.
Born and brought up in Bolton, Kay studied media performance at the University of Salford. He began working part-time as a stand-up comedian, winning the North West Comedian of the Year award. In 1997 he won Channel 4's So You Think You're Funny contest and the following year was nominated for a Perrier Award for his show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. With his public profile raised, in 2000 he co-wrote and starred in That Peter Kay Thing for Channel 4. This resulted in a spin-off sitcom, Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights, which ran for two series from 2001 to 2002 and in turn generated another spin-off, Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere, in 2004.
In 2005 he recorded a promotional video in which he mimed to Tony Christie's 1971 hit '(Is This the Way to) Amarillo', which was reissued to raise money for Comic Relief: the song reached number 1 in the UK Singles Chart, becoming that year's best-selling single in the UK.
In 2008 Kay co-wrote and starred in Britain's Got the Pop Factor... and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice, a parody of several British reality television shows. As the series' fictional protagonist Geraldine McQueen, he released the single "The Winner's Song", which reached number 2 in the UK singles chart. His 2010-2011 stand-up comedy tour was officially inaugurated into the Guinness World Records as the most successful ever selling over 1.2 million tickets. He co-wrote and starred in Peter Kay's Car Share, a sitcom screened by the BBC for three series from 2015 to 2018. He also starred in the 2015 BBC sitcom Cradle to Grave.
In 2016 Kay won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Male Comedy Performance, the BAFTA TV Award for Best Scripted Comedy and the National Television Award for Best Comedy for ...Car Share. He also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Salford.
Peter Kay has now confirmed he will be touring arenas starting in December 2022, including a monthly residency at The O2 in London. The tour proved so popular he has now announced dates into 2025!
Tickets are available now for shows in Birmingham, Leeds, London, Manchester and Sheffield! If your date isn't available please sign up for ticket alerts as more tickets are likely to be added to the website.

You’ll Have To Act Fast If You Want Peter Kay Tour Tickets
The return of the garlic bread king is a hotly-anticipated event.
Beloved comedian, and all-round TV icon , Peter Kay has announced that he’s going back on tour . It’s been over a decade since Kay has entertained the masses, having put on his last collection of shows in 2010. That particular run earned him the Guinness World Record for the biggest-selling stand-up tour of all time , having sold over a million tickets for 113 dates.
Kay’s upcoming tour will be much smaller overall, however there’s an extra special addition to the schedule, as Kay has now revealed he’ll be doing a monthly residency at London’s O2 Arena. “It’s good to get back to what I love doing best, stand-up comedy, and if there’s ever a time people need a laugh it’s now ,” Kay said. “And with the cost of living at an all-time high, ticket prices are starting from £35 — the same price they were on my previous tour in 2010.” Kay’s Better Late Than Never tour kicks off this December, starting in Manchester before making his way across the UK. Here’s everything you need to know before buying tickets for Kay’s hotly-anticipated comeback.
Where Is Peter Kay Touring?
The comedian will play shows across the UK , in addition to gigs in Dublin and Belfast. Kay will play double dates in Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow, Nottingham, and Cardiff, in addition to three dates in Sheffield.
2 & 3 December – AO Arena, Manchester
17 December – Utilita Arena, Birmingham
6 & 7 January – M&S Bank Arena, Liverpool
20 January – First Direct Arena, Leeds
17 February – Utilita Arena, Sheffield
23 & 24 February – SSE Arena, Belfast
9 & 10 March – Utilita Arena, Newcastle
23 March – Resorts World Arena, Birmingham
6 & 7 April – 3Arena, Dublin
5 & 6 May – OVO Hydro, Glasgow
19 May – First Direct Arena, Leeds
16 & 17 June – Cardiff International Arena, Cardiff
14 & 15 July – Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham
11 August – Utilita Arena, Sheffield
Peter Kay’s Monthly Residency At London’s O2
When the beloved comedian revealed the dates and locations for his upcoming UK tour, London-based fans were disheartened to have been skipped . But it turns out, Kay had bigger plans in mind for the capital city. During an appearance on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, the comedian announced a monthly residency at London’s O2 Arena from Dec. 16, 2022 to Nov. 18, 2023.
“Of course I’m not going to not do London,” he said. With this move, Kay becomes the first artist in history to perform monthly at London’s O2 for a whole year. The artist also expressed gratitude for fans, who welcomed his decade-late tour with warmth: “ Huw Edwards is going to queue up for tickets… Him? I cannot get my head (around) it.”
Where Can I Buy Peter Kay Tickets?
Tickets for Kay’s tour will be very popular, so it’s imperative to act fast. The comedian had planned to do shows in 2018 , but had to cancel due to family matters. However, he briefly appeared at a benefit concert marking the reopening of the Manchester Arena following the terrorist attack in May 2017, in addition to a couple of shows in 2021. Both shows at the Manchester O2 Apollo sold out within 30 minutes , so you better be prepared at 10 a.m. on November 12 when tickets for his upcoming tour go on sale. Tickets will start at £35, the same amount as during Kay’s 2010 tour, and there will be no pre-sale.
Tickets will be available via Ticketmaster UK , Ticketmaster IE , Gigs and Tours , and Kay’s website .

Peter Kay tickets are so in demand that the comic has added seven extra shows in Manchester and four in Birmingham.
Tickets are not even on general sale yet, but the pre-sale on O2 Priority caused the app and site to crash today due to so many fans logging on in a bid to secure seats.
Comedians and artists adding additional shows to tours is a common practice once they have scoped out demand.

And with just two Newcastle dates on Peter's 2022-2023 tour , there is a decent chance Peter may add more at the city's arena.
As it stands, the Phoenix Nights writer and beloved stand-up will peform in Newcastle on Thursday March 9, 2023 and Friday March 10, 2023.
He then has a gap in his tour schedule of almost two weeks before is he due in London on March 22. According to Newcastle Utilita Arena' s listings page, there is nothing else on at the venue until Tom Grennan's gig on Tuesday March 14.
That means there is a chance Peter could add shows at Newcastle Arena on Saturday March 11 and Sunday March 12 or later. Nothing has been confirmed and no comment made, but the schedule gaps and today's announcements suggest they could be in the pipeline.

Co-op Live’s rescheduled gig list in full as arena finally opens after weeks of delays
With the doors to the Co-op Live arena now officially open, many fans are counting down the days until their reschedule gig dates, but which acts have been rescheduled and when to?

After weeks of uncertainty and a string of setbacks, Manchester’s long awaited Co-op Live arena finally opened its doors on Friday night with a stellar performance from Bury based band Elbow. The headline act delighted audiences with a special performance to mark the release of their 10th studio album Audio Vertigo, and in the process made history as the first act to ever perform live at the new arena.
Yet while fans were loving every moment of it, the same couldn’t be said for the thousands of music and comedy fans that had sadly had their gigs rescheduled following the delayed opening of the venue and the collapse of a portion of the ventilation and air conditioning system from the ceiling earlier this month.
READ MORE: "People should stop kicking and start appreciating" says Co-op Live boss
The latest act that was forced to pull out of the Co-Op Live arena was Take That, with the popular hitmakers moving their upcoming shows to the Manchester arena instead, as they initially weren’t sure the venue would be completed in time. However, since the opening of the venue, organisers have confirmed that they don’t expect any more artists to reschedule or cancel their performances.
So which gigs have been postponed and rescheduled so far?
So far, a number of big name acts have been forced to postpone and reschedule their performances, with the most notable of these being comedian Peter Kay, who was the first star to face troubles with the arena’s delayed opening. Originally Peter had been scheduled to perform on April 23 - 24, however this was later rescheduled to April 29 - 30.
Unfortunately, even with a week’s postponement the venue still wasn’t ready in time, with new tour dates now set to take place on May 23 - 24.
Jonas Brothers
Another casualty of the changing schedules as US hitmakers the Jonas Brothers, who had originally been scheduled to play on June 17. In the latest schedule shuffle, the pop trio will now be performing at the later date of September 12.
Earlier this month, British rock group Keane were slated to celebrate 20 years in the music industry when they performed at the Co-Op Live arena on May 5, however due to the ongoing delays to opening they were forced to reschedule their performance to later in the year.
In a new statement, the band recently revealed the new dates of their show when they said: "We’re pleased to announce that our gig at Manchester Co-op Live will be rescheduled for Saturday 19th October 2024.
"This show is very special to us and we want to make sure we can give you the best possible experience. Thank you for bearing with us and for your love and support. We look forward to celebrating 20 years of Hopes and Fears with you. Tom, Tim, Richard, Jesse x ”
As a result of the ongoing difficulties, Take That made the difficult decision to change the venue of their May tour dates from the Co-Op Live arena to rival venue AO Arena, with the performances going ahead without a hitch from Tuesday May 7 to Sunday May 12.
However, despite the initial change for their May tour dates, the band have since confirmed that they will be returning to the Co-Op Live arena for their June dates as originally planned, with the performances due to take place on June 11 - 12.
Olivia Rodrigo
One act that’s future remains a mystery to fans, is chart-topping sensation Olivia Rodrigo, who was originally slated to kick off the UK leg of her world tour in Manchester at the new arena on May 3 and 4.
Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, her performance and safety concerns surrounding equipment falling from the ceiling, the gig was cancelled with less than 48 hours notice leaving many fans distraught.
Since then, no rescheduled date has yet been released however Co-op Live's boss Tim Leiweke has offered fans a glimmer of hope as he recently revealed he had been in contact with her team about potential dates for her performance.
Mr Leiweke said: "Olivia has three sets of dates and we’re waiting on her to make a decision, that’s up to her.
"We’ve given her three sets of dates and she’s figuring it out whether to add on to her European schedule, her Asian tour or on her second leg which may fall later than we want, but it’s up to her."
A Boogie Wit da Hoodie
Rap sensation A Boogie Wit da Hoodie suffered an unfortunate setback ahead of his gig on May 1, when the show was cancelled a mere ten minutes before he was due on stage due to a technical failure in which a piece of equipment fell from the gantry.
The show is currently expected to be rescheduled, however much like Olivia’s schedule, no firm dates have yet been put in place for his performance.
