“Music has taken me so many incredible places,” Ballerini added. “Around the world, singing with some of my heroes in pop, alternative and contemporary music, but singing with Kenny is going home. He was the only voice I heard on ‘half of my hometown,’ and when he comes in, it’s just like hitting the Knoxville city limits. So to be able to go out to those cities like the place he and I grew up with an artist who’s accomplished what he has, it’s a lot like going home.”

Kenny Chesney Announces 2023 I Go Back Tour with Kelsea Ballerini

by Alli Patton November 21, 2022, 1:49 pm

“When a year is as hot and alive as 2022 was you don’t want to try to recapture that magic,” country star Kenny Chesney said in a statement.

Videos by American Songwriter

Instead, the singer has brainstormed ways to make his next tour even bigger than the last. All the while, he promises to bring his shows to fans residing off the beaten tour path.

“I still have the sounds of diesel engines and No Shoes Nation in my head,” the country star continued. “And that made me ask, ‘What else could I do? What would be something that would put me every bit as much in the music and give No Shoes Nation another reason to believe? How can we reach those people who might not come to stadium shows, who live a little off the obvious path, but who love this music every bit as much.”

That’s when it hit him to go back the way he came. The “I Go Back” way. Fittingly, his upcoming tour is named and inspired by his 2004 hit, “I Go Back.”

“That song is about holding all those things that shaped you very close, recognizing how special they are – and keeping them alive any way you can,” he said. “So, I decided that rather than just go repeat what we did, I wanted to take this band and these songs to a lot of the cities we played on our way up! Let’s call the tour I Go Back – and do just that.”

Chesney wants to bring the energy of those early days of touring to his upcoming run of shows. “I remember coming up, the craziness of so many of those dates,” Chesney said. “Markets where people were using chain-cutters to get onto the lawn because we were so sold out in the Carolinas… and that’s a kind of energy that should never be left behind. For all those fans – based on how good last year felt – I want to bring what was coming off that stage to you, where you are, so we can all have that kind of experience together!”

Joining Chesney on the road will be fellow Tennessee native, Kelsea Ballerini. “Kelsea understands everything about where I come from, because she’s from there, too,” Chesney said of his tour mate. “She’s a writer, a girl who sings from her heart and isn’t afraid to honor where she comes from. To me, there was no other choice for this tour.”

The two collaborated on Ballerini’s 2021 single and No. 1 hit, “half of my hometown.”

“Music has taken me so many incredible places,” Ballerini said.

The I Go Back Tour will kick off on Mar. 25 at Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pennsylvania, and will criss-cross the country for a 21-date trek.

KENNY CHESNEY Announces Dates For “I Go Back 2023 Tour”

Having played to over 1.3 million fans on his Here And Now 2022 Tour , including breaking his personal best at many of the 21 NFL stadium plays, this summer, Kenny Chesney returned to touring with a major burst of everything good. The only country artist to make Billboard ’s Top 10 Touring Acts of the Past 25 Years for the last 14, Chesney wanted to find a completely different way to honor No Shoes Nation for his 2023 concerts.

“When a year is as hot and alive as 2022 was,” Chesney explains, “you don’t want to try to recapture that magic. Or maybe it’s me. I still have the sounds of diesel engines and No Shoes Nation in my head – and that made me ask, ‘What else could I do? What would be something that would put me every bit as much in the music and give No Shoes Nation another reason to believe? How can we reach those people who might not come to stadium shows, who live a little off the obvious path, but who love this music every bit as much…

“And that’s when it hit me: ‘I Go Back.’ That song is about holding all those things that shaped you very close, recognizing how special they are – and keeping them alive any way you can. So, I decided that rather than just go repeat what we did, I wanted to take this band and these songs to a lot of the cities we played on our way up! Let’s call the tour I Go Back – and do just that.”

Kicking off at State College, PA’s Bryce Jordan Center on March 25, the 8-time Entertainer of the Year is set to rock Penn State’s hometown with a vengeance. The 21-date I Go Back 2023 Tour will criss-cross the country, returning to the places Chesney first caught fire including Lexington, KY, Grand Rapids, MI, Lincoln, NE and Oklahoma City, OK as well as headlining the Hy-Vee Indy Race in Des Moines and Tortuga Music Festival in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Kenny Chesney I Go Back Tour 2022 dates

“I remember coming up, the craziness of so many of those dates,” Chesney says of his tour’s inspiration.

With a few more shows to announce, I Go Back 2023 is set to focus on the same musical intensity and high energy performances that marked the East Tennessean’s precedent-setting concerts. Having been raised in Knoxville, Chesney knows the power of bringing music to the fans – and wants to recognize the bond that live shows create among friends of all ages.

“These songs time stamp people’s lives,” Chesney says. “They put people in their lives, but they also serve as the touchstone for memories in the making. For people to come out and either live these songs again, or hear them for the first time? Who knows what will happen? But I know whether it’s ‘American Kids,’ ‘Get Along’ or ‘You And Tequila,’ every single person knows exactly what we’re singing about and singing along to together.”

I Go Back 2023 is Presented by Blue Chair Bay Rum. American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets in select markets before the general public beginning Wednesday, November 23 at 10 a.m. local time through Thursday, December 1 at 10 p.m. local time.

Kenny Chesney Announces 2024 Sun Goes Down Tour: 'Can't Wait to Get Back Out There'

The country singer will bring Zac Brown Band, Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker on the road with him

Kenny Chesney is bringing "the good stuff" to the road.

On Tuesday, the country singer, 55, announced he'll be embarking on his Sun Goes Down Tour in 2024.

The 18-show run is set to kick off on April 20 in Tampa, Florida, making stops in cities including Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and more, before wrapping on Aug. 23 in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Tickets are set to go on-sale on Friday Nov. 17.

Joining the "There Goes My Life" musician on the road as support are Zac Brown Band , Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker.

“I wanted a name that suggested – obviously – when all the good stuff starts to happen. The one thing I’ve learned about No Shoes Nation and these stadium shows is they start the good times early and they just keep it going,” Chesney says of his 2024 tour name in a press release statement. “But we all know, when the sun goes down, that’s when people really get loose and enjoy themselves."

He added: “So, I can’t wait to get back out there, stadium-sized ’cause there’s nothing like 60,000 members of No Shoes Nation singing these songs. It’s gonna be awesome.”

After nearly two dozen shows, Chesney wrapped his  I Go Back Tour  with  Kelsea Ballerini  in July.

In March, he celebrated his 55th birthday  on a private plane  with friends, including the "Heartfirst" performer, after performing in State College, Pennsylvania.

Ballerini helped lead an enthusiastic rendition of "Happy Birthday" for Chesney while performing at Penn State University's Bryce Jordan Center.

"I'd be a bad friend if I didn't ask all of you at this sold-out show on a Saturday night at Penn State to sing happy birthday," Ballerini, 30, said in the video Chesney shared, before leading the crowd of over 15,000 in a rendition of "Happy Birthday" in honor of the acclaimed country singer.

"Thank you, @KelseaBallerini and State College, PA, for the birthday song," he wrote alongside the video. "What a night."

Old Dominion Prank Kenny Chesney by Crashing an ‘I Go Back’ Tour Stop

Old Dominion started making a habit of mounting small-venue pop-up shows during their off days on Kenny Chesney 's  Here and Now Tour in 2022, but the group mounted the ultimate pop-up show on Saturday night (May 20), surprising Chesney himself onstage  during a stop on his current I Go Back Tour .

The band -- who are longtime friends and frequent tour mates of Chesney, and even released a gang rendition of " Beer With My Friends " with him last August -- pranked the star with a guest appearance. They strolled out onstage while Chesney was in the middle of his set at Ford Center in Evansville, Ind.

It marked the first time that Old Dominion's Matthew Ramsey appeared in public without his cane since an ATV accident that forced the band to postpone some recent dates on their own No Bad Vibes Tour. To celebrate his recovery, and their prank on Chesney, the artists all took part in an impromptu rendition of the Eagles' "Take it Easy."

"Nobody pulls one over on me," Chesney said after the fact, according to a press release. "My band and my crew can't keep secrets, but they kept this one!"

"I've missed them, I love them and I'm proud of them," Chesney added on social media, sharing a few photos of the moment. "What a fun night. From Evansville to the Red Door. You can't make it up."

On their social media, Old Dominion also documented the moment, writing, "A little Saturday night surprise for [Kenny Chesney] on the [I Go Back Tour.]"

Also there to witness the prank was Kelsea Ballerini , who has been opening for Chesney on his current tour, and who has garnered the tour nickname TeKelsea thanks to her love of tequila.

The I Go Back Tour has just two shows left before it wraps on May 27 in Orange Beach, Ala.

Road to Hana Guide: stops, tours, map, and tips! (2024)

You’ve headed to Maui and you’re ready to check out one of Maui’s most popular things to do : the Road to Hana. This all day adventure takes you on a winding drive through lush, east maui , which is remote, beautiful, and unlike what you’ll find on the other side of the island.

While this tops the list for most visitors’ bucket list, there is a lot to know before you set out on your journey. Overcrowding, parking challenges, and private property make this a tricky day out if you’re not prepared. But we have you covered with our complete Road to Hana guide as well as our favorite tours, which make for a stress free day on the road.

Here are some of our best Road to Hana resources from this article: 1. We highly recommend a tour, here are our favorites. 2. If you want to try the drive yourself, mind your manners for the local commuters and other travelers taking in the sights. 3. Book a rental car for the drive. 4. Whether you pick a tour, or traverse it yourself, let us help you pick the best route because there’s more than one!

What is the Road to Hana?

The Road to Hana is a stretch of the Hana Highway (HI-360) that connects the town of Hana in East Maui with Kahului in central Maui. The 52 mile drive is relatively short distance wise, but isn’t an easy road to navigate. With 620 curves and 59 bridges winding you through the rugged rainforest landscape of East Maui, the drive is an experience. The resorts and crowded beaches of the leeward side of the island have been replaced by waterfalls, cliffs, and dramatic ocean views.

We do think that this scenery is best experienced with a professional tour guide , but we’ll dive more into that later.

Why the Road to Hana is so famous

The road is famous for its stunning natural beauty and the many unique stops along the way. There are several parks, beaches, waterfalls, and hiking trails that can be accessed from the road, as well as historic sites and cultural attractions. Some of the most popular attractions include the Twin Falls waterfall, the bamboo forest that is part of the Pipiwai Trail, and the black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park (we cover more stops below).

The Road to Hana is also famous for its challenging driving conditions. The road is narrow and winding, and requires drivers to be alert and cautious. A majority of the bridges you’ll encounter are only one-lane, which makes the drive tricky, and slow at times. You’ll sometimes hear it referred to as the Divorce Highway as the drive can get tense at times. However, the stunning scenery and the many attractions along the way make the drive worth it for those who are up for the challenge.

Driving challenges on the Road to Hana

We’re going to address this upfront because I don’t see a lot of articles covering this and it is an important consideration into if and how you drive the Road to Hana.

The Road to Hana has seen a lot of challenges in the last decade, which make driving difficult. There has been an influx of visitors heading here (because it’s so beautiful!) and a lack of parking and knowledge about and how to navigate the road. Combined with road maintenance work, sometimes this trip can be more of a headache than the view is worth. This is especially true in the height of the summer when it is most crowded.

It’s important to know there is a lot of private property and areas where parking is strictly prohibited. You will get cited and ticketed if you park illegally on the road, and they began cracking down on this very seriously starting in 2021.

Our Road to Hana etiquette guide gives you our best information on driving the road well (like who goes first on those 49 one-lane bridges?) and what to watch out for on your journey.

And our favorite guided tours help to alleviate the overcrowding on the road and eliminate any driving challenges you may encounter.

If you’re heading to Maui on a cruise ship, a tour is your best bet and we highlight the ones that work with ship schedules in our list of Maui Shore Excursions and be sure to check out our Cruise Travel Guide .

Road to Hana Guide: Top 7 Stops on the Road to Hana

There is so much to see and do on the Road to Hana that it’s challenging to fit it all into one day. It’s important to have a few of your must-see stops picked out before setting off on your drive.

Road to Hana map

1. Wai’anapanapa State Park

Mile marker 32

This is quite possibly our favorite stop, so take some time to explore here. You’ll find a black sand beach, caves, tidepools, panoramic views, and walking trails. They also offer camping and cabins if you decide to extend your trip for just one night.

Reservations are now required to visit Wai’anapanapa State Park so make sure you’ve made those well in advance of your visit.

Waianapanapa Black Sand Beach Road to Hana

2. Eucalyptus Rainbow Trees

Mile marker 7

This is a popular but quick stop to check out the rainbow eucalyptus trees at mile marker 7. There are no signs, so this is easy to miss. There is parking, available, but it is on the other side of the highway, so take care when crossing. If you want to skip this stop, there are rainbow eucalyptus in the arboretum on the Keanae Peninsula.

3. Ke’anae Peninsula

After mile marker 16

Here you’ll find a rugged coastline, an arboretum, and (famous) Aunty Sandy’s Banana Bread. Stretch your legs, go for a walk, and enjoy the views. Be sure to find some Rainbow Eucalyptus in the Ke’anae arboretum.

Keanae Peninsula

4. Pua’a Ka’a State Wayside Park

Mile marker 22.5

These are very accessible waterfalls with picnic tables, restrooms, and swimming holes. This is a great place to stop and take a rest. You’re more than halfway to Hana so take a minute to enjoy the beauty you’ll find in this park.

5. Kipahulu District of Haleakala National Park

12 miles past Hana

This area is actually past Hana, but it’s worth a visit. In this part of Haleakala National Park, you’ll find the Pipiwai Trail with the famous Bamboo Forest and Waimoku Falls. Entrance to this park of Haleakala National Park does require paying the entrance fee.

If you plan to visit Haleakala National Park again on your trip (perhaps for sunrise or sunset), keep your ticket. It is good for entrance into the park for three days. You’ll also find the Pools of ‘Ohe’o here (sometimes called the seven sacred pools but these are often and swimming in Oheo Gulch is strongly discouraged due to safety concerns .

You can check the status of the hiking trails on the National Park Service website .

Pipiwai Trail Road to Hana

6. Hamoa Beach

Mile marker 51

On sunny days, this bay is absolutely beautiful. When the ocean conditions are calm, it’s a great place to do some swimming and enjoy the crystal clear water. This is one of our favorite beaches on Maui .

7. Wailua Falls

This impressive waterfall is located right off the highway, with additional space for parking. No need to hike to this impressive fall! To the right of the bridge, there is a path that will lead you down to the pool and if the conditions are safe you might be able to enjoy a quick dip.

If you have time and want to add on a few more stops, plant lovers will enjoy a stop at the Garden of Eden Arboretum , and our kids loved exploring the Hana Lava Tube.

What You Should Skip on the Road to Hana

Popular sites will tell you to stop at places that you shouldn’t. These spots are either on private land, have no parking/extremely limited parking , or are dangerous. These include:

  • Kaihalulu Red Sand Beach
  • Bamboo forest (not to be confused with the bamboo forest on the Pipiwai Trail)
  • Hanawi Falls
  • Upper Waikani Falls

Tips for Driving the Road to Hana

Can you take a rental car on the road to hana.

You can absolutely take your rental car on the Road to Hana. The confusion with most visitors is whether they can take their car on the unpaved portion of the road that is past Hana town, sometimes known as the backside or the backway to Hana. This is the portion of the road that takes you from Kipahulu to upcountry Maui (highway 31). This part of the road is unpaved, has no guardrails, little cell phone service, and will occasionally wash out during big storms on Maui.

Because of this, some rental car companies will void the insurance and/or not provide emergency roadside service if you drive on the backside of Hana. Confirm that you’re able to drive this section of the island with your rental car company in advance.

If you’re looking for a rental car, you’ll definitely want to check out our favorite booking site , which has helped us save thousands of dollars over the years.

How long should I plan for the Road to Hana?

If you drive the road without stops and there’s no traffic, you can expect to drive the entire Road to Hana (one way) in just over two hours. But the stops are the entire point of enjoying this part of the island! With stops, you can expect to spend 10 -12 hours. Yes, that’s a long day, but you can do as much or as little as you want.

Guided tours for the Road to Hana all run 10-12 hours long.

Road to Hana Guide

Where should I start driving the Road to Hana?

The Road to Hana officially starts in Paia town, a charming community on Maui’s north shore. This is your last chance to easily stock up on food, water, and gas before heading onto the road, so if you need to, make a stop here. We usually grab a coffee in town and a few snacks from Mana Foods .

If you have enough time on Maui, we recommend exploring Paia and the stops closer to it on a day when you’re not driving the Road to Hana. There is a lot to see and experience on Maui’s North Shore, which is why we include it as a separate day in our Maui itinerary .

What’s the best route to take on the Road to Hana?

While the Road to Hana may seem pretty simple (drive there and drive back) there are a few different ways you can structure your day to see what you want to see on the way. If this is your first time driving the Road to Hana, you’ll probably want to stick with the classic Road to Hana route.

Options for driving include:

  • Classic Road to Hana : make stops from Kahului to Hana and then drive back
  • Stops on the Way Back : drive to Hana and make stops on the way back
  • Circle Tour : make stops from Kahului to Hana and continue to the backside
  • Reverse Road to Hana : drive the backside of Haleakala to Hana and make stops from Upcountry to Hana to Kahului
  • Road to Hana with a Helicopter Tour : take a helicopter with a Road to Hana guided tour to enjoy the view from two perspectives

As you start looking at tours you’ll find that some stick to the Classic Road to Hana route, while others do a Circle Tour so you’re able to see more sights past Hana town.

Read more about these five routes in our Routes to Road to Hana guide . This tour company does the full Circle Tour of the Road to Hana (backside) .

What time should you start the Road to Hana?

Honestly, the earlier the better. When we do the Road to Hana, we aim to leave by 6:30 am to avoid the crowds and get a jumpstart on the day.

One of the first stops on the Road to Hana is Twin Falls. Their parking lot is the most crowded between 9 am and 2 pm (yes, they do get full and turn cars away). It takes 1 hour to 90 minutes to get to Twin Falls from most resort areas on the island, so it’s safe to say that most people set out on their excursion between 7:30 am and 8. You’ll want to get on the road before they do.

Should I drive the Road to Hana myself or take a tour?

The Road to Hana has become a very popular destination for travelers and it makes it to the top of many Hawaii bucket lists . It is spectacular. But this attention has brought a lot of road congestion and makes it challenging to find parking at a lot of the top sights.

After taking a guided tour on the Road to Hana, we really discovered just how nice it was to have someone else do all of the planning and worry about finding parking. Plus, having a local Hana guide added to our experience because we were able to hear stories that we wouldn’t have heard otherwise. If you’re torn between a guided tour and driving it yourself, we now wholeheartedly recommend taking a tour. Not only will you have a better experience, you’ll ease the pressure of overcrowding that locals are experiencing.

Check out our favorite Road to Hana guided tour s and you can even see a video of our experience on a tour here:

Driving safety on the Road to Hana

Though the Road to Hana has a lot of twists and turns, it’s paved and generally safe. But there are some precautions you’ll want to take on your journey:

  • Pay attention to the road, rather than the sights
  • Pullover for faster vehicles (locals tend to drive faster on these roads)
  • Pay attention to signs asking you to yield before bridges and honk before curves
  • Check weather conditions for flash flood advisories
  • Check water conditions before swimming — the ocean currents can be strong and rough
  • Stay on trails and off of private land
  • Adhere to no parking signs because you will get ticketed

Check out our full driving guide for the Road to Hana .

Should I do the Road to Hana in one day?

Most people visiting Maui don’t have unlimited time to enjoy and explore the island. If you can only spend one day on the Road to Hana, make the most of your time and do some planning before your trip. Our Road to Hana in one day helps lay out the stops and timing for your one day excursion.

If you have more time and you’re excited to explore more of East Maui, staying a night or two in Hana can be a good idea. That way you can take your time seeing things on the drive to Hana and spend the next morning exploring sights past Hana, like the Kipahulu District of Haleakala National Park. Just be prepared that East Maui is very quiet (which is what adds to it’s charm!) so don’t expect nightlife.

It can be difficult to find accommodations that allow you to book just for one night, but we give you some options in our Where to Stay in Hana for One Night guide .

i go back tour stops

What should you bring on the Road to Hana?

East Maui and Hana are remote, and you won’t find many amenities along the road. So it’s important to have prepared before you head out on your journey (or at least stop in Paia to pick up some last minute things).

Pack a day bag with:

  • Light jacket
  • Shoes for hiking (we love Tevas)
  • Bathing suit
  • Water and snacks
  • Basic first aid kit (bandaids!)
  • Change of clothes
  • Cash for food stalls along the way

Check out our full list of recommended travel items for a trip to Maui.

There are sometimes car break-ins along the Road to Hana. Just like when you travel anywhere, you’ll want to make sure you don’t leave valuables in the car.

Road to Hana Guide Planning Checklist

  • Step 1: Do you drive the road yourself or take a guided tour? By now you probably know whether you want to head out on this journey yourself or have a local guide drive you. If you want to go with a guide, check out our favorite guided tours here (plus get a discount!) and you’re done with your planning! If you’re going to drive the road yourself, move onto step 2.
  • Step 2: Decide whether you’re going to stay overnight or do your trip in one day. Most people make this journey in one day, but if you want to stay overnight, this is a good time to check out hotel or camping reservations.
  • Step 3: Plan out your must-see stops , making sure to note the mile marker and order of the stops. Don’t try to fit in too many. Choose 3-4 must see stops and then take it easy for the rest of your dive.
  • Step 4: Plan out your route. We lay out five options for driving the Road to Hana so choose the one that is most comfortable for you. If visiting Waianapanapa State Park is high on your list, make sure to get a reservation now.
  • Step 5: Download an app for the drive. If you decide to forgo a guided tour, you’ll still want some audio to help you navigate the drive. While not as informative or entertaining as a guided tour, the Shaka Guide app has a few Road to Hana routes that gives some great information and alerts you to upcoming stops.
  • Step 6: Pack the car. Use our packing list above and get ready the day before you plan to set out. You’ll have an early morning start, so it’s best to just get up and go!
  • Step 7: Enjoy the ride. There’s a lot to see and sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves to see it all. Head out with a sense of aloha, take it easy, and if you need to deviate from your list because parking is full or the traffic is making you tense, go with the flow!

Road to hana itinerary – best stops on the road to hana.

In this guide, I am not just listing every single spot to see along the Road to Hana… because let’s be honest, that’s stressful when you are trying to plan just a one day itinerary.

When I was researching what I wanted to fit into a day, I wasn’t sure where to start! I didn’t know how long it would take to be at each stop, if I could fit the things on my list into the day, etc.

In this Road to Hana Itinerary, everything listed here can be completed in a day. Plus, you will have some down time to eat lunch and stop at a few extra spots that look inviting to you. 🙂

My biggest tip is to not squeeze as many things into your day, but rather make it a priority to see a few “must-see” sites and then just explore other spots along the way! The point to Road to Hana is not sticking to a strict itinerary, but to enjoy the journey. 🙂

Before we dive into all the stops on my itinerary, lets touch on all the important things you should know about your road trip..

Where is the Road to Hana?

Road to Hana is located in Maui, Hawaii on the northeast side of the island. This road trip became famous due to the challenging and thrilling road to “get to Hana.” Let’s just say if you are a nervous driver / passenger… this is not the road trip for you!

The actual town of Hana is the goal /end point, but you can also travel past that to see more sights (which will be recommended in this Road to Hana Itinerary) ! Some people if they are brave enough, will travel all the way around the eastside of the island!

If you are planning your starting point and ending point, I would recommend the town of Paia as the starting point and the Seven Sacred Pools as your ending point. If you choose to go all the way around, that’s up to you (we will get more into that later) . 🙂

Should You Turn Back or Go All the Way Around?

I was very torn on the best way to do Road to Hana, so torn in fact that I made the call while we were at the Seven Sacred Pools (the end point I mentioned) ! I can’t tell you how many locals we asked and got extremely mixed advice… here is what I gathered:

Pros to going all the way around:

  • If you are staying on the west side of Maui (Kaanapali, Lahaina, or Wailea), it will save you a significant amount of time.
  • You will see completely different scenery than you did on the way there.
  • Far less crowds and cars driving on that end of the road trip.
  • The thrill and accomplishment of making it all the way around!

Cons to going all the way around:

  • The back side of the Road to Hana is very dry and not nearly as scenic as the way to Hana. If you go back the way you came, you can see half the sites on your way back!
  • There are large pot holes and loose dirt. Meaning, if it was just raining significantly, your car can easily get stuck in the mud.
  • The roads are extremely winding and narrow. If a car on the opposite side is coming towards you, you will need to pull into the jungle practically.
  • If you head back the same way you came, you get to be on the ocean side of the road and get better views! If you go all the way around, you will stay on the inland side of the road.

What I would recommend:

If you are a nervous driver or are in a car that is not high clearance, 4 wheel drive, then I would not recommend going all the way around. If you are in your own car or a Jeep and want to save some time, then I say go for it! 🙂

A lot of people go all the way around, especially the locals, and are completely fine. I don’t think the roads could be THAT bad if so many people go all the way around! But of course, be safe and go at your own risk!

When should you start your Road to Hana Road Trip?

I started my road to Hana itinerary VERY early.. like before sunrise early. I don’t regret waking up that early, but I think there is one main thing I should mention that I did not read anywhere online.

The Road the Hana is on the “wet” side of Maui, meaning it rains throughout the night and most of the morning almost every day. We drove all the way from Kaanapali to Hana (almost a 3 hour drive), and it was raining almost the entire time. We had little pieces of sun, but it only got sunny in the afternoon!

PLUS, we wanted to stop in the cute town of Paia to see some shops and grab an early breakfast, but that sleepy surfer town was completely shut down when we arrived there at 5:30am.

The upside to waking up that early to start the day was that we never had to drive that winding road in the dark on the way back, there were virtually no cars on that narrow road on the drive up, and we beat the crowds at most of the sights!

My recommendation? I would plan to get to the town of Paia around 7am (when the town opens), so you can experience it! Plus, that will still get you on the road early enough to beat the crowds and cars on the road. And, you will hopefully get to your first stop by the time the morning cloud cover is gone. 🙂

Should you Stay a Night in Hana?

I think if you have the time, it would definitely be a good idea to stay a night in Hana or nearby! There is SO much to see on that side of Maui. If you are staying on the west side of Maui and are doing this Road to Hana Itinerary as a day trip, it will be a LONG day. I kind of wish I spent a night and broke up the drive, plus I would’ve been able to see more!

If you choose to stay a night in Hana, there are only a few accommodations available, so be sure to book in advance!

$: Heavenly Hana Paradise

$$: Kailani Suite at Hana Kai Resort

$$$: Hyatt Hana-Maui Resort

I stayed in Kaanapali Beach on my 5 Day Maui Itinerary , where I split my time between the Hyatt Regency & Aston at the Whaler ! The Hyatt was a beautiful resort, perfect for relaxing! The Aston at the Whaler had a fantastic location and a full kitchen to cook some meals at!

Must-Pack Items for Road to Hana

I never want to bore you with a never-ending packing list, but I do like to mention a few must-have items for this specific trip!

1. Sun Bum Sun Screen

In 2018, Hawaii banned standard sun screen that contains chemicals that are harmful to reefs. It was the first state in the USA, which was long over due! It is SUPER important that you are only using reef safe sunscreen not just because it’s illegal not to, but because the chemicals in regular sunscreen can cause hundreds of years of damage to a coral reef.

I solely used Sun Bum , which you can get right on Amazon! It has a good smell, doesn’t make you feel super greasy, and didn’t make me break out!

2. Cheap Sunglasses

I am not a sunglass snob AT ALL. I buy 99% of my sunglasses off amazon because I am the most irresponsible sunglass owner on the planet! When you are traveling, you should bring a cheap pair to take with you in the ocean / pool, shove in your bag when you’re in a rush, and not care if you lose!

I have this adorable two pack ! They are super sturdy, so adorable, and the best part.. extremely affordable!

3 . Travel Size Umbrella

On the wet side of Maui, you will need an umbrella. It will be sunny and hot one second and torrential downpour the next! When Joseph and I were hiking to this secret beach near Hana (more on that later), it starting pouring on us! Click here for a super affordable + tiny one that could fit in your pocket!

Road to Hana Itinerary – BEST STOPS on Road to Hana!

Please keep in mind there are PLENTY of stops along the road to Hana, and a lot of stops I did not name on this road trip.. simply because it is just not possible to see everything in a day trip! I am just listing what I decided to include on my day trip to Hana, and what I could easily fit into one day!

I have a bonus section at the bottom of this guide in case you want to split your road trip up into multiple days OR swap out something from this Road to Hana itinerary. 🙂

Okay, let’s get started!!

Stop 1: Paia Town

I would plan to arrive at Paia town around 7am when all the shops begin to open. You can grab a quick breakfast here and walk around the town.

If you have the choice to visit this town on your way in versus on the way out… I would definitely see it on your way in to Hana! When I was driving back from my road trip and passing through Paia, it was PACKED. The line of cars backed up on the highway was crazy!

Be sure to keep an eye out when driving through this town to see all the surfers dotting the horizon!

Paia Town on Road to Hana in Maui

Stop 2: Wai’anapanapa State Park (Paia to Wai’anapanapa State Park ~ 2 hours)

I chose to head straight to Wai’anapanapa State park first thing in the morning to beat the crowds! But.. it didn’t go as planned..

As of 3/1/21, you MUST have a state park reservation in advance. This was SO heartbreaking considering this went into affect only a few weeks before I arrived and did not know of this new rule! We were turned away at the gate saying they were sold out for the day 🙁

Be sure to book your reservation in advance so you aren’t turned away! You can do that here.

This state park is definitely one you won’t want to miss! This is where you will get to walk a ton of scenic walking trails, swim in fresh water caves, explore lava tubes and the best part… see a black sand beach! You could easily spend an hour or so exploring this state park. 🙂

Black Sand Beach on the Road to Hana Maui

Stop 3: Hana (Wai’anapanapa State Park to Hana ~ 10 minutes)

The town of Hana is technically the goal of the road trip, but you aren’t done yet! 🙂

This small town shows the simplest way of life! There is a small school in the town, a few restaurants, and a good size community who lives there. I was very shocked by the amount of homes I saw considering the nearest grocery store is over 2 hours away!

Honestly, there is not much to do in the actual town of Hana, so I would make this your lunch stop! Here are a few lunch spots in the area:

  • Braddah Hutts BBQ
  • Huli Huli Chicken
  • Hana Ranch Restaurant (where I went) !

Town of Hana in Maui

Stop 4: Kaihalulu Beach (Hana to Kaihalulu Beach ~ 4 minutes)

Kaihalulu Beach is a secret, red sand beach in the town of Hana! I was completely lost trying to find the trail to this beach, but luckily a nice local helped showing us the way.

To start, I would park somewhere near the corner of Uakea Rd & Hauoli Rd (right near Hana Ball Park)! Then you continue by foot onto Uakea Rd towards to ocean. It will say no trespassing, so you can go at your own risk. When I spoke with the local who showed me the way, he said to go for it! 🙂

Right before you get to the end of the road, you will see a yellow gate on your left hand side. That is where you will cross over into the jungle! From that point on, the trail was pretty easy to follow and well marked. Just continue on the dirt trail until you see the red sand beach. 🙂

Red Sand Beach on Road To Hana

Stop 5: Wailua Falls (Kaihalulu Beach to Wailua Falls ~ 25 minutes)

This was my favorite spot along the Road to Hana! This gorgeous waterfall is right off the highway and there are two small trails on each side that let you get a little closer to the falls.

Since this is a popular spot, there is a very small parking area in front of the falls. This is when I was very grateful I started my Road to Hana itinerary early because there was plenty of parking when I arrived. BUT on my way back I passed by Wailua Falls, and there was no parking available!

TIP: Bring your swim suit, because you can swim in these falls! 🙂

Wailua Falls on the Road To Hana in Maui

Stop 6: Seven Sacred Pools (Wailua Falls to Seven Sacred Pools ~ 10 minutes)

Seven Sacred Pools , also known as The Pools at ‘Ohe’o, is located inside of Haleakala National Park . AKA, be ready to pay a national park fee! 🙂

This is one of the most known spots on the Road to Hana, and is located only about 30 minutes past the town of Hana. I would plan to park your car here and spend some time exploring since Stop #7 is located here too. 🙂

The Seven Sacred Pools is just a short, downhill hike from the parking area. When the water levels are low, there are natural swimming pools (from the name I’m guessing.. oh I don’t know, Seven?!).  This spot is beyond magical! Can you imagine relaxing in natural swimming pools, surrounded by waterfalls, looking out at the ocean!?

Seven Sacred Pools on the Road to Hana in Maui

Stop 7: Bamboo Forest (Seven Sacred Pools to Bamboo Forest ~ Same parking lot!)

The Bamboo Forest / Waimoku Falls is at the same parking lot as the Seven Sacred Pools. You will take a steep trek through the jungle along the Pipiwai Trail to access both the Bamboo Forest and Waimoku Falls.

Waimoku falls is a 3.8 mile round trip hike, and is the end point of the Pipiwai trail! I decided to just go to the Bamboo forest (2 mile round trip) before turning around, because I decided to stop at a waterfall on my way back to Kaanapali instead to break up the drive. 🙂

Bamboo Forest on the Road to Hana in Maui

Stop 8: Stop to swim in a waterfall on your way back! (Roughly 2.5 hours to get back to west side of Maui)

There are so many waterfalls along the Road to Hana to choose from, which is a pretty good problem to have! 🙂

Majority have swimming holes that allow for swimming, but you do want to be careful not to swim in one that you aren’t sure is safe! Especially if water levels are high.

I stopped at Pua’a Ka’a Falls on the way back because it was a good half way point, there were picnic tables to relax at for a bit, there was a huge parking area, and there were restrooms to change in afterwards!

TIP: Make sure you bring wet socks if you plan on swimming in waterfalls! Trust me, you will thank me later.

Best Swimming Waterfalls on the Road To Hana

Swimming in waterfalls along the Road to Hana was my favorite things on my Things to do in Maui for Couples guide !

Bonus Stops along the Road To Hana

It will be extremely stressful and challenging to try to fit every site along the road to Hana in your day trip itinerary. I would highly recommend writing down a handful of must-see sites, and then stopping everywhere that looks inviting to you!

If one of the things I named didn’t interest you, here are a few ideas you can swap it out with:

  • Twin Falls (swimming hole waterfall)
  • Lava Tube (small trail to visit lava tubes)
  • The Rainbow Eucalyptus Grove (to see rainbow trees!!)
  • Garden of Eden Arboretum (large area with walking trails, a café, and tours)
  • Stop wherever looks inviting to you!!

Best Stops on the Road to Hana in Maui

Okay, that’s a wrap! I hope you found this extremely detailed Road to Hana itinerary useful! I know I could’ve used something like this when I was planning my trip.

This Road to Hana itinerary was listed on my 5 Day Maui Itinerary, so be sure to check it out! Here are some bonus itineraries of Maui I think you would love:

  • Romantic Things to do in Maui for Couples
  • 30 Things to do in Kaanapali Beach!
  • Which Hawaiian Island is Best?

Remember.. you won’t have any service along the Road to Hana, so I would recommend saving all these spots to a Google Map! If you want to just use mine, just type your information in below and I will email it to you! 🙂

Will travis kelce attend taylor swift's eras tour dates in edinburgh, scotland, share this article.

i go back tour stops

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift have spent a bunch of time together in recent months despite their busy schedules.

They were in Singapore together during one of her Eras Tour stops, they went on vacation together in the Bahamas, they were snapped at various places together and they attended Patrick Mahomes’ charity event . Then, Kelce showed up to her 87th Eras Tour show in Paris and they had a vacation together in Italy.

Now, Swift continues her international leg of the Eras Tour, so you might wonder: given that Travis has some time off, will he be in Edinburgh for three days to see her perform again?

It sounds like we won’t be seeing Kelce in Scotland, however, as the tight end has agreed to play in David Njoku’s Celebrity Softball Game on Sunday in Ohio.

Erica Banks Wants Tickets To Chris Brown's "The 11:11 Tour" After Singer's Meet-And-Greet Photos Go Viral

Chris Brown fans have just gained another reason to attend “ The 11:11 Tour .” On Friday (June 7), pictures of the singer at his meet and greet went viral online.

In one image, Brown wrapped his arms around the woman’s waist. Meanwhile, another showed the Virginia native holding his pants by the belt while leaning in for a kiss. “I would’ve tried to take him home. Stop playing, Maurice,” wrote one social media user underneath The Neighborhood Talk ’s repost. Another person said, “One thing Christopher is gonna do is appreciate them fans!”

“Buss It” rapper Erica Banks also learned about the photos. On Twitter, she humorously asked, “Can somebody send me a link to the Chris Brown meet and greet tickets?” with an upside-down smiling emoji.

Considering the tickets start at $1,111, it’s safe to say that concertgoers for the Detroit show got their money’s worth. The package also included two signed personal items, an 11:11 calendar and light refreshments.

Brown took a similar approach with his “One of Them Ones Tour,” where tickets were allegedly priced at $1,000 . On Instagram, he shared, “PSA! When [artists] do concerts, they all have something called a VIP package. I haven’t done meet and greets in over [seven] years… I have the coolest fans on the planet. I appreciate the f**k outta them. These are memories that will last with them forever.”

“The 11:11 Tour” kicked off on June 5 at the Little Caesars Arena. Montreal, Boston, Philadelphia, Houston, Oakland, Seattle and Las Vegas are among the other cities lined up. Ayra Starr and Muni Long are expected to join Brown for select dates.

Released in 2023, 11:11 featured guest appearances from Future, Maeta, Fridayy, Davido, Lojay, Victoria Monét and more. In April 2024, it was updated with a whopping 13 tracks, one of which included his Quavo diss track “Freak.”

How To Get Olivia Rodrigo Tickets In 2024

Drivers license in hand, Olivia Rodrigo is headed off on tour, but you need to act fast to see her cruise down your street—tickets are selling out quickly. The 21-year-old singer-songwriter began her second tour in February. She’s in Europe through the end of June and then flying back to America in July. Then, after one show in Canada, she’ll close out her GUTS tour in August. Here’s everything we know about how to get tickets to Olivia Rodrigo’s tour before it’s all over.

Olivia Rodrigo kicked off her "GUTS" Tour back in February, but there's still time to get tickets.

The Best Maternity Jeans To Stay Cute And Comfortable During Pregnancy

How to get drake tickets in 2024, where to buy tickets to olivia rodrigo’s “guts” tour.

Ticketmaster is offering tickets for Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS tour, but unfortunately some dates are already sold out. Here’s the full rundown on ticket availability, both at Ticketmaster and elsewhere.

  • Ticketmaster is offering both regular tickets and VIP packages to select shows. There are more VIP tickets available than there are regular tickets, probably because they tend to cost more. For dates that are still available, tickets start around $80 for standard tickets and nearly $300 for VIP packages for international performances.
  • For her U.S. shows, tickets are either sold out or will go on sale at a later date and time. Fans will need to check back for these specific shows: July 20 (Washington, D.C.) and August 13 , 14 , 16 and 17 (Inglewood, California).
  • If you plan to see one of Rodrigo’s European concerts, you may need to use a currency converter calculator to figure out what the price will be in American dollars. Rates change daily so keep that in mind when purchasing tickets.
  • SeatGeek has tickets to Olivia Rodrigo’s U.S. shows, starting around $200 apiece. The platform does have tickets available to the shows Ticketmaster said to check back about, with prices starting at $500 for the Washington, D.C. show and $326 for the Inglewood, California concerts.
  • Tickets for Rodrigo’s European shows start at $113 on StubHub , while her American performances begin around $200.
  • Vivid Seats prices start around $100 for her international shows, and $200 for her U.S. performances. All prices on the platform are already calculated in American dollars for her European concerts.

When Do Olivia Rodrigo Tickets Go On Sale?

Tickets are on sale now at various sites including SeatGeek, StubHub and Vivid Seats. A few dates are still available for purchase on Ticketmaster, but you are likely to see a message asking you to check back because “on sale date and time are in the works.” However, it’s unknown when those tickets will go on sale.

If you don’t want to wait, check out another reseller to purchase tickets immediately. Tickets are selling fast, so don’t delay if you want to see Olivia Rodrigo this year.

How Much Are Olivia Rodrigo Tickets?

As far as concert prices go, Olivia Rodrigo tickets won’t break the bank like Adele or Taylor Swift ’s shows will. Tickets start around $200 for U.S. tour dates, while her European shows are much cheaper, starting around $100.

Besides location, the cost of the ticket also depends on the proximity to the stage and if you are sitting or standing. Prices also go up if you purchase a VIP package on Ticketmaster that’s only offered for her European shows. Don’t forget that online ticketing platforms may add on fees at checkout.

Travis Kelce’s exact location is a “Blank Space” — but he’s dropping hints.

The athlete recorded Wednesday’s episode of his and Jason Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast remotely after attending one of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour shows in Paris, greeting fans with a “Bonjour.”

When Jason, 36, asked his younger brother for a a “country of origin,” Travis played coy.

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift

“I can give you a continent. I’m in Europe,” the tight end, 34, said before clarifying he would not play a “guessing game.”

Jason, who was also filming outside of their regular studio while in New York, told listeners that he believed the Kansas City Chiefs player was in France.

“Travis is overseas,” the retired NFL star said. “He will not disclose his country but he did give us an introduction with a certain language, so I’m gonna bet on that one.”

The “Catching Kelce” alum gushed that he had “a blast” with the “amazing” couple , who he recently made headlines for vacationing with.

Travis went on to praise his girlfriend’s “unbelievable” performance, which featured “a new segment , new lights [and] new dancing” in honor of her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”

He also urged fans to “go see it.”

Jason pointed out that Travis has now attended five of Swift’s shows, starting with a Kansas City concert before they began dating .

Travis attempted, unsuccessfully, to give the pop star his phone number in a friendship bracelet after the July 2023 show.

Taylor Swift

Since the couple went public with their romance , Travis has been in the audience for stops in Buenos Aires , Sydney and Singapore.

He hinted at more upcoming appearances, teasing his plans to “fly around and have some fun … all over the world this off-season.”

Swift next takes the stage Friday in Sweden.
