After last summer’s successful tour in seven Italian cities, David Garrett , icon in the world of music and internationally renowned artist who, with his violin, enchanted the most prestigious theaters in the world , returns with the “ICONIC tour” . I n Italy, the only date for spring 2024 will be in Milan at the TAM Teatro Arcimboldi Milan, Monday 22 April 2024.

The tour takes its name from Garrett’s latest studio work signed by Deutsche Grammophon, a tribute to legendary 20th century performers such as Heifetz, Kreisler, Francescatti, Grumiaux, Menuhin and many others. The album contains over twenty famous songs revisited in a modern key, to bring to light forgotten works of the era of the great virtuosos , with completely new and modern arrangements for which Garrett collaborated with his former teacher, the renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman , and with artists of international caliber such as the tenor Andrea Bocelli , the flautist Cocomi and the trumpeter Till Brönner .

On stage the iconic songs from the album that have always fascinated the boy David and made him the great violinist he is today, are performed in a trio with the David Garrett Trio : David Garrett on violin and in the role of creative director, Franck van der Heijden on guitar and Rogier van Wegberg on bass.

David Christian Bongartz was born in Aachen, Germany on the 4th of September 1980. Under the stage name David Garrett, he is one of the world’s most respected violinists, as renowned for his classical concerts as he is for his numerous crossovers with the world of pop and rock.

A lot is made of the youth of today’s pop stars. Look at the singles charts and you’re likely to find a whole lot of artists who are legally unable to do some of the things you’ll hear about in the other songs. From getting utterly wasted on everything under the sun to driving. However, artists in the world of classical music must look at them and laugh themselves silly. If you want to be a great classical musician, you’d better know your major scales by heart before you know the alphabet that well, and if you haven’t learnt your minor scales by the time you’ve started school you can forget about it. David Garrett is a perfect example of this. Lorde might have been performing covers on national radio by the time she was 13, but Garrett was a prize winning violinist by the time he was five.

What makes this more incredible is how it wasn't even going to be him playing originally. The first violin that Garrett’s father bought was for his older brother, but the four year old Garrett pretty much immediately took a shine to the instrument and was winning competitions within the year. By seven he was enrolled at the Lübeck Academy of Music where he excelled as something of a prodigy, he spent five years there and at the age of 12 he was taken under the wing of legendary Polish violinist Ida Haendel. This was, of course, after receiving his first Stradivarius violin the year before when he was 11, by this point he’d become renowned for his talents, and he made his first two CD’s by the time he was 13. He was also tapped for concerts on TV in his native Germany and The Netherlands.

Now, this is all extremely impressive but it could also be where it stops. It would be nothing new to hear about the child prodigy captivating a country for a summer, before either folding due to the pressure of it all or said country losing all interest but neither of those happened. Garrett went from strength to strength, performing with the Munich Philharmonic at 16, enrolling at London’s Royal College Of Music, studying at Juilliard a couple of years later (which he paid for by modelling, as if he wasn’t infuriating enough already), and it only got even more astonishing in his twenties, where he was able to set the world record for fastest violin player in the world when he was 26. The man is more than just a talent, he’s pretty much a force of nature and in the classical world he’s still practically a baby.

The best is yet to come from David Garrett, and if his seventeen studio albums, four DVD’s and eight awards are anything to go by, his best is going to be incredibly special indeed. Highly recommended.

David Garrett, the renowned crossover violin superstar and dual classical and rock "player", has been performing countless classical works for more than 30 years, and in 2023, David kicked off a new world tour with his new "ICONIC Classical Retrospective" recital. ICONIC is inspired by the legendary players of the golden age of the violin at the beginning of the 20th century: Zino Francescati, Arthur Grumiaux, Jascha Heifetz, Fritz Kreisler, Yehudi Menuhin ...... Their musical treasures and deep melodies thrilled the childhood David Garrett; To this day, the masters of yesteryear are still greatly admired by him. As a role model for contemporary musicians, David wandered through the timeless recordings of the Golden Age masters, thus conceiving and giving birth to the repertoire of ICONIC.

On this tour, David will take the stage for the first time in a new format as the Greta Trio, a combination of violin, classical guitar and bass that pays homage to the outstanding musical masters of the past and present. He has carefully selected representative pieces of classical music and classics popular in Europe and the United States at the beginning of the 20th century and, together with guitarist Van der Heijden, has lovingly adapted these unforgettable and beautiful melodies.

A disciple of Itzhak Perlman and a graduate of Juilliard, David Garrett has pursued his own artistic path, presenting crossover works and classical violin repertoire to the widest possible audience in a variety of concerts and programmes. He has capitalised on the popularity of crossover concerts as a means of inspiring new audiences for the great classical violin works, taking classical music crossover fusion to new and unprecedented heights and creating a new sensibility for classical music.

The son of a German lawyer and an American prima ballerina, David was born in Aachen, Germany. At the age of four, he was given his first violin and made his debut with the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of ten. At thirteen, he became the youngest artist to be signed exclusively with the Deutsche Gramophone Company.

He has worked with the most prestigious orchestras and conductors, including Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado, Giuseppe Sinopoli and Yehudi Menuhin. He was awarded first prize in the 2003 Juilliard Composition Competition for his work Fugue in the Style of Johann Sebastian Bach. His composition teacher, Eric Ewazen, has said of him, "The intensity of his breathtaking and expressive violin playing overwhelmed us. Everyone who had the privilege of teaching him recognised his extraordinary talent and incredible brilliance."

In October 2013, David Gretel made his film debut as an actor. He played the lead role of Niccolo Paganini in The Devil's Violinist (directed by Bernard Rose) and composed the soundtrack for the film himself. In addition, he dedicated his aria "Ma Dove Sei" to the tenor Andrea Bocelli. Garrett vs. Paganini was awarded "Best Selling Album of the Year" at the ECHO Klassik Classical Echo Awards in 2014. He was also awarded the German Bambi Prize in November 2013 and in April 2017 the German Frankfurt Music Prize.

David Garrett is a firm believer that there is only good or bad music, regardless of the genre it comes from. This idea is especially evident in his crossover performances. Combining his personal style with the music of his time, he has successfully organised open-air concerts at the King's Square in Munich in 2013, in the Berlin Forest in 2014, and at the National Auditorium in Mexico in 2016, where more than 10,000 spectators experienced the warm atmosphere of the venue in each case.In November 2016 he embarked on a world tour with concerts in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and in December of the same year he performed in In 2017 and 2018 he gave concerts in Europe, South America, Central America and Israel, and in 2019 he toured with his new programme "Infinity".

Despite his crossover successes, David Gretel remains true to his roots and regularly gives concerts with a purely classical programme, such as a series of concerts featuring Brahms' and Bruch's Violin Concertos in 2014 and 2015; concerts with the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Genoa and Neapolitan orchestras and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Zubin Mehta; and concerts with the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Genoa and Naples orchestras, and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta. Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta; made his debut in 2015 with the Russian State Philharmonic Orchestra in Moscow, the La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Chailly, the RAI in Turin and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and has been invited to perform once again with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples; and in September 2016, with Zubin Mehta, Andrea Bocelli, Florence May Festival; and in the 80th anniversary concert of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in December 2016, he performed with Pynkas Zuckerman, Julian Rachlin, and Ilya Konovalov.

Since the age of 13, Greig has been playing the Stradivarius violin, made in 1718 and the first of the four great Italian violins. For the last ten years he has been playing a 1716 Stradivarius "A. Busch", and in November 2022 he won a €3.5 million auction for a 1736 Guarnelli, one of the rare Guarneli del Gesu, one of the Four Great Italian Violins.

His new classical album ICONIC has released by Deutsche Grammophon on November 4, 2022. ICONIC is inspired by legendary violinists whose gems and soulful melodies thrilled David Garrett as a child. Music by Bach, Dvořák, Gluck, Kreisler, Mendelssohn and Schumann, to name but a few, can be heard in new arrangements for violin, guitar and orchestra (by Franck van der Heijden and David Garrett). David Garrett will play the program for the first time in a trio together with guitar and bass in concert.

David Garrett’s personal choice of music evokes the golden era of violin virtuosi, when performers such as Zino Francescatti, Arthur Grumiaux, Jascha Heifetz, Fritz Kreisler and Yehudi Menuhin delighted audiences with popular encores and other miniatures. They raise the young musician’s admiration until today. David immersed himself in their timeless recordings as role models and as a result conceived the program ICONIC.

“Unfortunately, many beautiful works from the early days of the great virtuosos have fallen into oblivion,” says David. “That's why it means all the more to me that I now have the opportunity to bring all these beautiful pieces back to life.”

The ICONIC Tour starts in mid-March 2023. With his prodigious talent, electrifying stage presence, and unique blend of musical styles, David Garrett is sure to deliver an unforgettable performance at the Esplanade Theatre on 12th of September 2023. In the spring of 2023, a concert tour started in Germany promoting David Garrett's successful new album "ICONIC" released by Deutsche Grammophon, the oldest record company in Germany.

David Garrett, this time in a trio with guitar and bass, continues to delight his audience. Currently, tickets are sold for 53 concerts in 12 countries, in addition to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Denmark, Poland, Italy, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Turkey, Georgia and Singapore. Weigold & Böhm International Artists & Tours and planB Konzepte present this concert project in the best concert halls and report more than 70,000 tickets sold and 26 sold-out concerts. The "ICONIC" concert tour is very successful - 25 more concerts are being planned in 7 countries, including Australia and China this year and next year. As part of his concert tour, David Garrett will visit Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

The audience will be treated to a heartfelt tribute to the great violinists of the Golden Age, whose melodies inspired David Garrett as a child.

In 2023, 77 concerts will take place in 23 countries, besides Germany also in Austria, Switzerland, Australia, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Denmark, Georgia, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Spain, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Czech Republic, Turkey and United Arab Emirates. Weigold & Böhm International Artists & Tours and planB Konzepte bring this project to the leading concert halls and report more than 100,000 tickets sold and 35 sold-out concerts. The "ICONIC" tour is already shaping up to be an outstanding success.
