The ride takes place on a large half-pipe ramp. The ride vehicle, a fish, has six rows, with the passengers in the back three rows facing those in the front three. In the center of the fish, a barrier separates the six rows.

Abby Cadabby’s Rockin’ Wave Ride Experience

The ride begins with the riders slowly going up and down the half-pipe ramp. After the third time, the riders pick up speed and start spinning from the center of the fish as they slide up and down the ramp. The ride continues for approximately two minutes before it ends.

Height Requirements for Abby Cadabby’s Rockin’ Wave

Like the other Bay of Play rides, there is no height requirement. However, those under 42″ must be accompanied by a companion 14 years or older.

Wait Time for Abby Cadabby’s Rockin’ Wave

#4 – Big Bird’s Spinning Reef

Big Bird’s Spinning Reef is a mini Ferris wheel in Sesame Street’s Bay of Play. Each Ferris wheel pod can hold three passengers (two kids, one adult), but max two adults (if no kids).

Big Bird’s Spinning Reef Ride Experience

Big Bird’s Spinning Reef is a forward-facing Ferris wheel that gives riders a decent view of the Bay of Play. However, as the Spinning Reef is a kid’s ride, it does not go up high. The highest point of the ride is approximately 15 ft.

This ride is also extremely slow-moving, so even if a child fears heights, Big Bird’s Spinning Reef should not affect the phobia.

Height Requirements for Big Bird’s Spinning Reef

There are no height requirements to ride Big Bird’s Spinning Reef; however, all guests 36″ or under must be accompanied by a companion 14 years or older.

Wait Times for Big Bird’s Spinning Reef

#5 – Elmo’s Dolphin Dive

Elmo’s Dolphin Dive is SeaWorld San Antonio’s version of SeaWorld San Diego’s Sea Dragon Drop.

Elmo’s Dolphin Dive Ride Experience

Although Elmo’s Dolphin Dive is considered a kid’s vertical drop ride, a better description would be a bounce ride. On Elmo’s Dolphin Dive, riders are lifted into the air (approximately 20 ft), slowly dropped short distances (around 2 ft), and lifted back up to the top multiple times until they are gently brought back to the ground. In total, the ride’s duration is 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Elmo’s Dolphin Dive Height Requirement

The height requirement for Elmo’s Dolphin Dive is 36″.

Wait Times for Elmo’s Dolphin Dive

Wait times for Elmo’s Dolphin Dive are usually 5 minutes.

#6 – Little Bird’s Splash and Tot’s Ahoy

Tot’s Ahoy is a dry play area with slides and climbing activities for kids up to age 3.

Little Bird’s Splash and Tot’s Ahoy are perfect for kids who may be too small to enjoy the other rides at Sesame Street’s Bay of Play.

#7 – Steel Eel

Steel Eel is a high-speed hypercoaster at SeaWorld San Antonio that is the perfect first-time experience for young riders looking to try their first “adult” ride.

SeaWorld San Antonio Steel Eel Ride Experience

Steel Eel begins with riders embarking from the launch station and making a U-turn into a slow, 150 ft incline. The riders drop from the peak, reaching a maximum speed of 65 mph at the bottom, and slightly curve to the side, going up two smaller hills.

The second hill leads to a brake that slows the riders down before they descend 130 ft down a right turn drop, leading to another drop between two coaster pillars. Riders then go over four small hills before slowing down and returning to the launch zone, ending the ride.

SeaWorld San Antonio Steel Eel Height Requirement

As there are no inversions, spins, or significant launches, the Steel Eel is the perfect beginner “adult” coaster. That being the case, the height requirement for the Steel Eel is 48″.

Wait times for Steel Eel

You can expect to wait 10 minutes to ride the Steel Eel.

#8 – Wave Breaker

Wave Breaker is a launch thrill ride that puts riders on a jet ski and races them across the lake in the center of SeaWorld San Antonio.

SeaWorld San Antonio Wave Breaker Ride Experience

Wave Breaker begins with riders entering a hanger with screens lining the sides of the wall with a closed, blue garage door at the end. A voice over the speakers gives instructions and begins a countdown. The door slides open when the countdown ends, and riders launch onto the track.

Riders go up a small camelback hill that turns to the left between the pillars of Wave Breaker and over the lake. Riders glide over the lake making small turns to simulate riding on a jet ski. Riders make a hard left at the lake’s edge, bringing them to the second launch up a 60 ft hill, the track’s highest point.

Riders plunge towards the lake on a wide left turn and over a small island. Riders then go back over the lake and under three tracks before returning to the land and into the launch station, ending the ride.

Wave Breaker Height Requirement

As there are no inversions and the top speed only reaches 44 mph, Wave Breaker is considered a family-friendly rollercoaster. As such, the height requirement for Wave Breaker is 48″.

Wave Breaker Wait Times

You can expect to wait 10 minutes to ride the Wave Breaker at SeaWorld San Antonio.

#9 – The Great White

The Great White is a floorless coaster with multiple inversions, twists, and loops. It is one of the most intense SeaWorld San Antonio rollercoasters but also one of the most fun. Great White also is the first rollercoaster built at SeaWorld San Antonio and the first inverted rollercoaster built in Texas. Riders may also be familiar with the ride layout as the Great White is identical to the famous Six Flags Batman rides.

SeaWorld San Antonio The Great White Ride Experience

The Great White begins with a 108 ft incline up a chain lift hill. Riders descend 80 ft on a left turn, directly into the ride’s first inversion, a vertical loop. The vertical loop immediately leads to a Zero-G roll, followed by a second vertical loop.

Riders then make a hard left turn and a right turn leading into a wingover flip. At the same speed of 50 mph, riders continue down the track, feet dangling close to the ground until they go up into the last inversion of the ride, a second wingover flip that banks left and into the launch station, ending the ride.

SeaWorld San Antonio Great White Height Requirements

As the Great White is one of the most intense rollercoasters at SeaWorld San Antonio, with multiple back-to-back inversions and a unique floorless structure, it has one of the strictest height requirements.

To ride the Great White, guests must be 54″.

SeaWorld San Antonio Great White Wait Times

You can expect to wait 15 minutes to ride the Great White.

#10 – Rio Loco

Rio Loco is a white water raft ride at SeaWorld San Antonio, similar to SeaWorld San Diego’s Shipwreck Rapids, but without the theming.

SeaWorld San Antonio Rio Loco Ride Experience

Rio Loco begins with riders leaving the spinning round pier. The water starts off calm but quickly increases in speed. Throughout the ride, the raft will crash into the rapids, spilling water into the raft and drenching a guest.

At one point, riders will pass a sprinkler that sprays water into the raft wetting all the guests. The finale for Rio Loco is a huge waterfall that riders pass under, drenching all on the raft. The raft then floats onto a conveyor belt that brings riders back to the pier ending the ride.

SeaWorld San Antonio Rio Loco Height Requirement

Guests must be 42″ to ride the Rio Loco.

SeaWorld San Antonio Rio Loco Wait Times

You can expect to wait 10 minutes for this ride.

#11 – Texas Stingray

The Texas Stingray is the longest, fastest, and tallest wooden rollercoaster in Texas (compared to the Texas Rattler at Six Flags Fiesta Texas and the Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas). It is also the newest of the three, opening in 2020.

SeaWorld San Antonio Texas Stingray Ride Experience

Texas Stingray begins with riders climbing the 96 ft hill to reach the highest point of the ride. At its peak, the track makes a U-turn into the 100 ft drop, reaching a top speed of 55 mph. The drop leads to a hill that curves downwards under an opening in the tracks. This opening leads to another downward right curving hill that takes riders to a wide left curve.

Riders continue on a leftward angle until they curve to the right and go under another opening. The track turns leftward until it turns right into an opening under one of the coaster’s edges that leads down into a wooden tunnel. The tunnel’s exit leads into a slight right turn, a small bunny slope, and a final right turn that leads into a barn where the Texas Stingray began, thus ending the ride.

Though this is considered the tallest, fastest, and longest wooden rollercoaster in Texas, the Texas Stingray is still a tame ride, making it a great experience for younger riders or those afraid of inversion rollercoasters like The Great White.

SeaWorld San Antonio Texas Stingray Height Requirements

The Height requirement for the Texas Stingray is 46″.

Wait times for the Texas Stingray

You can expect to wait 20 minutes for the Texas Stingray.

#12 – Sea Swinger

The Sea Swinger is a high-intensity aerial pendulum swing ride that continuously builds momentum throughout the two-minute experience.

SeaWorld San Antonio Sea Swinger Ride Experience

The Sea Swinger begins with riders taking a seat. An overhead harness comes down and locks itself in place. The metal ground spreads apart, and orchestrated music plays over the speakers. The swing begins to move slowly from side to side with a gradual spin. The swing goes higher and higher on each side until riders eventually swing at high speed.

Eventually, riders swing high enough in the air to get a complete view of Turtle Reef at SeaWorld San Antonio from above by putting them parallel to the ground before they fall back down in the opposite direction.

Height Requirements for the Sea Swinger at SeaWorld San Antonio

Guests must be 48″ to ride the Sea Swinger.

Wait times for the sea Swinger

You can expect to wait 10 minutes for this SeaWorld San Antonio ride.

#13 – Riptide Rescue

Riptide Rescue is an aerial spinning ride that’s not for the faint of heart (or stomach). Riptide Rescue is also featured at SeaWorld San Diego.

SeaWorld San Antonio Riptide Rescue Ride Experience

The ride begins with each of the three arms spinning in a circle. The rider’s boats (four per arm) tilt back and forth as the spinning continues. As the riders tilt, the boats spin separately from the arms. Then, the arms raise the boats as they continue to spin faster. The layered spinning continues for two minutes until the riders are gradually brought back to the ground, ending the ride.

Should you go on Riptide Rescue if you get motion sickness easily?

Because Riptide Rescue is a pure spinning ride, those affected by motion sickness should not go on this ride. Dizziness and nausea are likely to occur while on Riptide Rescue.

Height Requirement for Riptide Rescue at SeaWorld San Antonio

The height requirement for Riptide Rescue is 45″.

Wait Times for Riptide Rescue

#14 – tidal surge.

Tidal Surge is a giant swing that also is the tallest and fastest attraction at SeaWorld San Antonio.

Riders have the choice of two views available per swing arm. The first option is the back view, which faces the lake, and the second is the front view, which faces the queue. These options give different experiences for Tidal Surge, so it is up to the rider’s discretion to pick which one is most appealing to them. Each option can hold 20 riders at a time for a total of 40 riders per ride.

SeaWorld San Antonio Tidal Surge Ride Experience

Tidal Surge begins by lifting the two pendulum arms in opposite directions. The arm on the left rises towards the lake while the arm on the right rises towards the queue. Each arm then swings, causing them to move at high speeds.

Each swing progressively gets higher and higher until it reaches a peak of 135 ft. At the peak height, the rider feels like they are lying on their back facing the sky. Falling from that height causes the ride to move at a top speed of 65 mph, making it one of the fastest in SeaWorld San Antonio. The total duration for the swings on Tidal Surge is about 1 minute and 30 seconds until, eventually, the ride slows, bringing it to an end.

Height Requirement for Tidal Surge

Guests must be 48″ to ride Tidal Surge.

Wait Time for Tidal Surge

#15 – journey to atlantis.

Though Journey to Atlantis is a water ride featured in all three SeaWorld parks, each version differs in meaningful ways. The Journey to Atlantis at SeaWorld San Antonio ditches the theming that the other two parks have and instead focuses on the “thrill” portion of the ride by eliminating the towers and indoor parts.

SeaWorld San Antonio Journey to Atlantis Ride Experience

Journey to Atlantis begins with riders stepping into the noticeably larger flume boat. Each boat has four rows, with each row able to seat four riders. Once the flume moves, it begins a 100 ft climb up a hill. At the hill’s peak, the flume stops on a rotating turntable. The track rotates twice until the flume is backward.

Riders then drop backward down a camelback drop and arrive at the top of the hill where they stop on a second rotating turntable. The flume then turns until the riders face forward. Riders then take the final 80 ft drop into the pool below, causing a massive wave that wets all riders. The flume slowly floats back to the starting station, ending the ride.

Height Requirement for Journey to Atlantis

Guests must be 40″ to ride Journey to Atlantis at SeaWorld San Antonio.

Wait time for Journey to Atlantis

You can expect a 15 minute wait for the ride.

Too Fat? - Seaworld

Earning My Ears

  • Oct 6, 2018

So I have put on a little weight since I last went 6 years ago and my mother (who had to do a walk of shame last time) asked if I would fit on everything - now we're going in like two weeks, so I am panicking because what if I don't? I was fine before but my stomach is bigger and my chest has developed more, the joys of coming completely out of teen years! My main worries for Seaworld are Mako and Kraken I think, but I'll add Manta in there too, the other's should be fine since my mother fit on them (and she is a bigger lady than me). Any info for Busch Gardens would be helpful too, if possible! Anyhow, my measurements; - 5’4 - 255lbs - Chest: 46”-47”/44D (not squished at all) - Size 20 (US)/ 24(UK) on bottom - Waist (smallest part under my stomach): 46” - Belly: fluctuates, but 50”-52 ish (sucking in or sitting upright, which I would do on the rides, it's mostly at the 50 mark but I'm aware that I have issues handling my weight so the extra is a safe room) - Hips: 50”-51” - Thighs: 28” each at largest point

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question. Maybe you could contact SeaWorld & ask them if there are size restrictions for their rides? I'm thinking you'll be fine & I wish you a wonderful trip!

For safety reasons most rides do have restrictions. At the start of the line for each ride, there are test seats to see if a guest can safely fit for each ride (well for Kraken, Manta, and Mako I know this to be true, not sure about Journey to Atlantis or Wild Arcitc). This way you can decide to not wait in line or possibly be embarrassed if you don't fit. I do know that SeaWorld has had several complaints about the seats in Mako being very small, and many are turned away from that ride for safety reasons. Hope that helps a little.

  • Oct 26, 2018

Thanks! Just a quick update really, Seaworld was mostly fine for me. We started with Manta , which I was a little worried about and I still am to be fair. - even though I did ride it! There was a moment when I didn’t think it would click but I shifted a little and it all clicked into place. I didn’t quite feel safe when it swung us around so we were laid flat, I kept imagining it breaking and me just falling but I fit and I could do it again without the worry. Next up was Kraken the shoulder harness clicked but I couldn’t put the seatbelt in on my own, I ended up waiting for the man to push it down for me a little. If there was just another centimeter or two I would have had it on my own. The guy was nice and pushed on the harness a bit and when I was all clicked in and he let go it went right back to where it was so it was just that bit of embarrassment. I was sat in the front row, so it wasn’t a huge ‘crap I’m too fat’ moment since I didn't try the big boy seats. I did half expect to be kicked off. Now I will say that I did wedge myself into the seat. I think if I was sat in the middle by the box I could have sat in a little better since I’m short and I had to almost jump back into the seat, so I’ll try sitting by the box for a step up next time and let you know. That day, I did avoid mako . We had eaten and I was still a little upset about Kraken if I’m honest. That didn’t help when my dad and brother went on and came back with a “I’m not being mean but you might not fit on, they kicked three people off before us”. I didn’t want I sit in the test seat but the next time we went a few days later, they did get me to try the test seat. It clicked but hearing through sites we needed three clicks I was still a little hesitant. I did give it a go though, I got it to click, it wouldn’t move, my dad asked if I wanted it clicking again, because I was fidgeting and trying to push it down more. I said yes and he managed to pull it down again from next to me where he was all buckled in already. I think next time I won’t have him pull it down again, and see if it is all alright. Mako was a fun ride though, I felt like I would fly out of the seat but it was a load of fun. I had no issues with Journey to Atlantis or Wild Arctic (also infinity falls!). Journey to Atlantis has a lapbar, but again, no issue at all. Wild Arctic and Infinity Falls have a seat belt. Wild Arctic's is an actual pull out seatbelt like a car in a way, which my mother fit on as well, and she is bigger than me, I don't know how much though. Infinity Falls, you share a seat belt with another person, myself and another adults (granted a thin one) did fit on together, so I don't think this is too much of an issue either, especially if you're sat next to a child or even on your own. We did Busch Gardens too, which was a different experience, but the whole group was in a bit of a bad mood so that did impact me, I only did two rides at Busch Gardens, but it was very much like Kraken, the overhead harness was a pain, and I needed that extra little push to buckle it all up fine and dandy. I did try and get a bigger seat for Kumba, but the line just misplaced me, so I still don't know about that, I will get around to trying it though! I am determined and if it lets me ride without the embarrassment of them helping me, then I'm all for it, screw the family! SHEIKRA and Kumba I rode that day, and I will see about trying the others out when we go back.

OP i salute you for being comfortable in your own skin! Great to hear that you were able to experience the rides on your list. For better or worse, the population’s average body size is increasing. I really wish the ride designers would take this into consideration. The overhead harness systems seem to be the main issue. If it’s feasibly safe, sure would nice if they would consider spending some $ to retrofit a few cars to accommodate more people! Even if you are within recommended weight allowance for your height, having an athletic build for men (barrel chested) or being a well endowed woman can create issues riding. Two of my adults DS are big boys, it was upsetting they couldn’t get the right clicks on more than a few of U & SW’s rides. Specifically, i was wondering about Infinity falls, thanks for posting!

Is SeaWorld Orlando Fat Friendly? – The Best and Worst  Rides for Plus-Size People!

Avatar photo

We love Orlando theme parks – the thrills, excitement, and fantastic rides – but we don’t love wondering whether or not we can get on those rides. Vacations should never come with anxiety. Yet, as anyone who has ever asked themselves if they can fit on a ride knows, they often do.

SeaWorld Orlando is known for their amazing sea life exhibits, one-of-a-kind shows, and (most recently) their unique coasters. This has all of the makings of an amazing day for your average person, but is SeaWorld Orlando worth the price of admission for plus-sized guests?

Is SeaWorld Orlando Fat Friendly?

One of the biggest questions many park visitors have when it comes to ride restrictions is – “Does SeaWorld have a weight limit for their rides?” According to SeaWorld representatives on Tripadvisor, “While our rides do not have a weight requirement, one must fit in a chair and easily buckle up the safety belt.” Nevertheless, as that response might suggest, that doesn’t mean all rides are perfectly accommodating.

You can find SeaWorld’s Ride Accessibility Guide here for their policies on “riders of size” (page 6) and specific restrictions for each ride.

Test Seats

Each thrill ride at SeaWorld has a test seat, usually located outside at the front of the ride. This gives you an idea of what to expect before you get in line and lets you know if you’ll be uncomfortable with the seat design. You can take a moment to buckle yourself into the test seat and check the fit. Unfortunately, most of these seats are in public locations, which might make you feel a little exposed getting onto them. Don’t let this stop you from testing the seat! You’re there to have fun!

journey to atlantis weight limit

If you don’t see a test seat, SeaWorld encourages guests to speak with a team member at the ride for details on the seating.

As a note, SeaWorld ride ambassadors (the team members working each ride) are not allowed to assist you when buckling yourself into the ride. You must be able to do it yourself or have a member of your party assist you. So, if you have concerns about buckling in your own harness, test it out with a friend or family member with you. (If you’re anything like me, it will help your anxiety to have a plan in place and practice it before you board the ride.)

What Rides Should I Be Cautious About?

Most rides that present possible trouble are the roller coasters at SeaWorld Orlando . However, the park does have some larger seats available on certain rides to accommodate more riders. Let’s go through the coasters at SeaWorld and discuss the restraint system and seat design so you’ll know what to expect when you visit.

Ice Breaker. The Ice Breaker is a great bet for plus-sized guests. This ride seat is very accommodating for larger frames. However, it does have an overhead harness that clicks into a lap bar. Many riders report that it is like Busch Gardens’s Tigris in terms of fit. So, if you can ride one, you’ll likely be just as comfortable in the other. According to SeaWorld staff, there are harness extenders available for this ride.

Manta. This coaster tips riders forward into a “flying” position. Due to the seat shape and width, riders with wider hips and thighs may have the most difficulty fitting comfortably. Even if you technically fit, you may still find the accommodations uncomfortable, as it can be a tight squeeze. On the test seat outside, you’ll need to make sure the overhead lap bar locks fully into the sides of the seat, enclosing your torso entirely. The ride also has leg restraints, but these are very wide and not likely to give you any issues.

journey to atlantis weight limit

According to SeaWorld safety regulations, the maximum chest dimensions that the Manta can accommodate is 52 inches. The fit is largely due to the vest portion of the harness that rests against your chest and stomach instead of the overhead restraint.

Kraken. As with Manta, Kraken has a maximum chest measurement of 52 inches. However, Kraken’s seat is more generous than the Manta, giving those of us with bigger hips and thighs more room. The restraint is a pulldown harness that has two buckles between your legs. The two center seats on rows 4 and 5 are designed for larger riders. If you are uneasy about fitting, you may want to try to get either of those rows. This design makes it much more plus-size-friendly than other coasters!

Mako. This hypercoaster only has a lap bar as a restraint. It requires three clicks in the seat for it to be considered fully functional. Because the seats are so molded, it’s likely going to be a tight squeeze without a lot of wiggle room. This is probably the least forgiving ride at SeaWorld Orlando due to the narrow seats and overall design. Many tall guests also report discomfort with the seats, so any combination of big and tall folks may want to skip this one entirely.

Pipeline. The world’s first Surf Coaster is a stand-up coaster that allows riders to move up and down within their restraints. To get into the seat, you must boost yourself up into the seat in a standing position. Due to the design, the restriction for chest and waist sizes is much stricter than on many other rides. Despite being a new coaster (2023), it’s sadly not very friendly for larger folks.

Verdict: Is SeaWorld Orlando Fat Friendly?

Overall, we have to say that SeaWorld is moderately fat-friendly!

SeaWorld offers larger seats on their most popular coasters and has belt extenders for some coasters. Most plus-size guests report the Kraken and Ice Breaker are the most accommodating and easiest to ride for people of all shapes and sizes. The Sesame Street section of the park has several rides that larger guests can ride with small children, which is not always the case in other parks. With these rides, no one has to sit on the sidelines and miss out on adventures with the little ones.

journey to atlantis weight limit

Fortunately for parkgoers, many attractions at SeaWorld are not dependent on size restrictions. Since this is also an animal park, thrill rides are not the main attraction. There are many size inclusive (and accessible!) animal exhibits that can easily take up much of your day. You can spend hours in the underwater shark exhibits, exploring the Antarctic penguin habitat, or visit polar bears, belugas, and walruses at the Wild Artic.

The daily animal presentations are another highlight of the park. Dolphins, whales, and sea lion shows shouldn’t be missed at SeaWorld, either! The stadium seating is all benches which – while not always comfortable – doesn’t force anyone to squeeze into an individual seat. Unlike some other parks in the area, you’ll always find something to do here.

What do you think about SeaWorld’s ride accommodations? Would you recommend it to other plus-size people? Tell us about your experiences at the park!

Journey to Atlantis at SeaWorld Orlando

Skip to: Overview | Location | Restrictions | Fear factor | Fun fact | Guest reviews

What is Journey to Atlantis?

Journey to Atlantis is a family-friendly water coaster (though some might call it a high-grade flume ride). This ride will take you through the lost city of Atlantis, exploring watery passageways and secret tunnels. Out of all the attractions at SeaWorld Orlando, Journey to Atlantis boasts some of the most beautiful and varied intricate theming, from dark tunnels with sparkling lights to bright and playful underwater reefs.

Where is Journey to Atlantis located?

In the Sea of Legends at SeaWorld Orlando

Journey to Atlantis – height restrictions and other factors

Height requirement is 42 inches; included in Quick Queue.

Journey to Atlantis – what you wish you knew before you experienced it

Journey to Atlantis is a water-coaster, so prepare to get wet. The main drop is featured prominently to guests even casually walking by, so that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. What may surprise folks is the second – albeit much smaller – drop, where some even claim to get more wet than on the first.

While we’re all at least vaguely familiar with the concept of the Lost City of Atlantis, it doesn’t hurt to reinforce that idea here. What scholars and historians disagree on is why the city is indeed lost, and this attraction offers its own answer to that age-old question: because it doesn’t want to be found! The main drop in the ride is the city expelling unwanted guests (i.e, you) from its waters.

How scary is Journey to Atlantis?

We rate Journey to Atlantis three out of five water-falls. The ride itself isn’t scary in the least. In fact, most of the attraction hosts some of the most peaceful and tranquil moments you might find at SeaWorld Orlando, but the darker tunnels and two drops are enough to get your heart rate up!
