  2. Lamy Safari has a scratchy nib? : r/fountainpens

They behave well almost on every paper with black or blue-black lamy ink. The last ink is hyper boring but is a classic dry, water resistant, one. No feather/bleeding even on cheap paper using it. Also, as said by others, new steel nibs are more scratchy and with use came the smoothness.

  3. Lamy Safari/Studio Steel Fine Nib: How Scratchy

Posted March 30, 2010. If they are scratchy, try gently rubbing them with very fine 3M abrasive (15um followed by 0.5um) in a curved motion around the point of contact with the paper - be gentle and test often. Lee valley. Please visit my new pen and ink/pen box site at www.boxesandpens.co.uk.

I have seven different Lamy nibs on four different pens. Only one of the extra fines is scratchy. All the other ones are very smooth. Especially the 1.1 and 1.5 sub nibs. The fine nib is pretty smooth also.

  5. Lamy Safari Writing Scratchy & Gray

I received a Lamy Safari AL-Star (Fine nib) from Massdrop a bit ago, with a new converter. ... 5 EF nibs are defective from being are very scratchy and 1 Medium (M) nib is defective being scratchy. I believe that the Lamy Safari has scratchy nib issues with their EF nibs because of the lack quality control (QC) in the manufacture of their EF ...

  6. Lamy Safari feels very scratchy : r/fountainpens

Hi, I bought a Lamy Safari a couple of months ago due to how popular it is on here. And I'm kinda disappointed by it. I've used it pretty much daily in school in good hope. The nib feels as scratchy as a cheap pencil. On almost every paper I tried it, it just feels very bad. I had a Parker IM before the Lamy and that thing was much smoother on ...

  8. Scratchy Lamy Safari EF

My EF nib in my Lamy Al Sport writes just fine as well, using Noodler's BP Black ink. Not the smoothest writing nib, but what I would expect at this price point. I suspect that most EF nibs are going to be somewhat scratchy by virtue of their size, but I have never used a high quality EF nib. May 16, 2015. #8.

  9. Why is my new safari (fine nib) so scratchy? : r/fountainpens

Sadly this has been my experience as well, as much as I love the cream color Lamy Safari pen I have recently purchased. I have a scratchy Lamy too and nothing has been able to fix it. Here's a series of tests I'd recommend running through: Flush out the pen with some water and a drop of dish soap.

  10. Basic Black: One Week with the Lamy Safari

Lamy's Safari line is a go-to recommendation for a "first fountain pen." Many people, like me, come to Safaris later, after they have been using (much more expensive) fountain pens for a while, only to realize that the Safari is a flat-out good pen , ... The fine and extra-fine nibs can be scratchy, and sometimes I can barely tell a difference ...

  11. LAMY Safari

Looking to jump into the fountain pen world, with a purchase of an entry-level LAMY Safari. Curious as to the differences in the nibs. My co-worker has a fine nib (Safari, Noodler's Eel Blue) that seems just a bit wide. Wondering if the extra fine ones are "scratchy" - let's say with Noodler's Eel Series ink, and on standard office notebook paper.

  12. Lamy Safari

Definately the Lamy fine. I have 4 Lamys and I would not call them scratchy either and would not take notes with anything larger than the Lamy fine if using the Lamy. You may find that you feel it more as a medium in your opinion! Now the Pilot fine will be more of an extra fine in Lamyville and the Pilot medium will be more of a fine in Lamyville

  13. Lamy Safari w/ extra fine nib feels scratchy and doesn't ...

That's actually the ideal size I would want for my Lamy Safari, but Lamy Safari extra fine nibs tend to have some size variation. Reply ... Fine is the best compromise to avoid scratchy nibs. By the way, i learned that it's bot the nib that scratches, it's that with EF nibs you actually need to hold it almost 30° from the paper to have it ...

  14. Left-Handed Nibs: Made All The Difference For Me

Firstly, I loved my Lamy Safari. An obnoxious yellow so it would never be lost, Fine nib. I loved despite it being a litte scratchy and having to operate at this rather extreme angle to get a good flow out. I'm a lefty, and I'm an overhand writer, and I have all the bad traits of a lefty.

  15. My LAMY Safari is so scratchy it tears paper apart. Does the nib seem

  16. Lamy Safari Extra Fine or Fine Nib?

I believe it will work. I appreciate the fluid writing the pen seems to provide while using a Lamy Black cartridge. If you are looking for fine lines in general writing, I would guess that the EF will work for you. I also have an Al Star with a Fine nib. It provides a much wider line (well at least relatively).

  18. Lamy Safari Fine VS EF

Lamy nibs (on Safaris anyways) are pretty inconsistant. I have a couple EFs and Fs. I have a F that puts down a thinner line than one of the EFs. One of my EFs is a little scratchy but the other is really smooth. Other than that the Safari is a great pen, if the grip doesn't bother you. SCPaul.

  19. Does Lamy Safari with a F nib usually scratch? : r/fountainpens

I personally experience very little scratching with the F but some scratching with the EF, but it also depends what type of ink I'm using. Also, something to consider - a F on the lamy safari is still pretty broad (probably equivalent to a M or even B on a Pilot), this is part of the reason why I later got an EF. 3. Reply.

  20. Lamy 2000 F scratchy nib?

My Lamy 2000F arrived in the mail yesterday. I loaded it up with Pelikan Black ink, and tried it out. My immediate reaction was that the nib is unacceptably scratchy! Reading so many positive reviews on the web, I expected a very smooth writing experience. My Safari F nib feels smoother, and the Safari M nib even more.

  21. Lamy Safari Ef Not Quite Extra Fine

Posted May 19, 2015. My Lamy EF is not much finer than a F nib because its tines are not touching, it has generous flow (not too wet, not dry). If you have a finer F nib, you should compare tine spacing between them. I wouldn't want a drier EF nib for the sake of a thinner line, dry nibs are atrocious.

  22. Scratchy, "toothy" new Lamy 2000 Fine Nib

    91. Posted January 10, 2006. Sorry to hear that the F nib on your Lamy 2000 is scratchy. My 2000 F nib was a bit toothy at first, but after realigning the tines, it's one of my favorite writers. In my experience, it's difficult to realign the tines of a pen without a loupe. I find a lot of nib scratchiness can be remedied with a proper nib ...

  23. Lamy 2000 V Lamy Safari Nib Durability

It's quite easy to remove and swap the nib in a Lamy 2000. Once you unscrew the section, you can slide the nib and feed out of the "back" end. Just don't lose the metal O-ring that fits between the section and the barrel, and domake sure that O-ring stays aligned when screwing the section back onto the barrel.

  24. Flex A Safari Nib

9.5k. Location:San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA - SFO. Flag: Posted February 28, 2015 (edited) Someone asked about flexing a Lamy Safari nib. I was using one of my Safari's with a F nib and was a bit surprised by the ink line. From the ink line, it sure looks like the nib is flexing.

  25. Lamy Safari: Medium or Fine nib

Posted May 29, 2016. I own a Lamy 2000 Fine and an Oblique BB which is currently at Mike Masuyama's workshop being ground to a stub of about 1.3 mm. The Fine is wider than every Japanese fine you'll find. But given the unusual shape of the Lamy nib, with its small sweet spot, I think you're better off with the Medium.
