They behave well almost on every paper with black or blue-black lamy ink. The last ink is hyper boring but is a classic dry, water resistant, one. No feather/bleeding even on cheap paper using it. Also, as said by others, new steel nibs are more scratchy and with use came the smoothness.

I have seven different Lamy nibs on four different pens. Only one of the extra fines is scratchy. All the other ones are very smooth. Especially the 1.1 and 1.5 sub nibs. The fine nib is pretty smooth also.

My EF nib in my Lamy Al Sport writes just fine as well, using Noodler's BP Black ink. Not the smoothest writing nib, but what I would expect at this price point. Definately the Lamy fine. I have 4 Lamys and I would not call them scratchy either and would not take notes with anything larger than the Lamy fine if using the Lamy. You may find that you feel it more as a medium in your opinion! Now the Pilot fine will be more of an extra fine in Lamyville and the Pilot medium will be more of a fine in Lamyville

I believe it will work. I appreciate the fluid writing the pen seems to provide while using a Lamy Black cartridge. If you are looking for fine lines in general writing, I would guess that the EF will work for you. I also have an Al Star with a Fine nib. It provides a much wider line (well at least relatively).

Lamy nibs (on Safaris anyways) are pretty inconsistant. I have a couple EFs and Fs. I have a F that puts down a thinner line than one of the EFs. One of my EFs is a little scratchy but the other is really smooth. Other than that the Safari is a great pen, if the grip doesn't bother you. SCPaul.

I personally experience very little scratching with the F but some scratching with the EF, but it also depends what type of ink I'm using. Also, something to consider - a F on the lamy safari is still pretty broad (probably equivalent to a M or even B on a Pilot), this is part of the reason why I later got an EF. 3. Reply.

My Lamy 2000F arrived in the mail yesterday. I loaded it up with Pelikan Black ink, and tried it out. My immediate reaction was that the nib is unacceptably scratchy! Reading so many positive reviews on the web, I expected a very smooth writing experience. My Safari F nib feels smoother, and the Safari M nib even more.

Posted May 19, 2015. My Lamy EF is not much finer than a F nib because its tines are not touching, it has generous flow (not too wet, not dry). If you have a finer F nib, you should compare tine spacing between them. I wouldn't want a drier EF nib for the sake of a thinner line, dry nibs are atrocious.

It's quite easy to remove and swap the nib in a Lamy 2000. Once you unscrew the section, you can slide the nib and feed out of the "back" end. Just don't lose the metal O-ring that fits between the section and the barrel, and domake sure that O-ring stays aligned when screwing the section back onto the barrel.

Posted May 29, 2016. I own a Lamy 2000 Fine and an Oblique BB which is currently at Mike Masuyama's workshop being ground to a stub of about 1.3 mm. The Fine is wider than every Japanese fine you'll find. But given the unusual shape of the Lamy nib, with its small sweet spot, I think you're better off with the Medium.
