Top 5 airlines flying to Kerala

terrible. Because I felt very unwell during the flight. How do they leave a woman alone in the middle of 2 men? an obese man who was falling on top of me.

They put me on a chair in between two men, one overweight who was almost falling on top of me, and the other was even uncomfortable because I was half falling because of what the other was pushing me. I stayed with. my feet were swollen from fluid retention and from being unable to accommodate myself. it was very uncomfortable. I asked for help but they told me that the flight was full and they couldn't help me. I got off the plane almost unable to walk due to the inflammation. and then at FLL airport I asked for help because I couldn't go to my next flight, which was a connection.

The walk from baggage claim to the taxi is very difficult for older people I will never fly into JFK again. It is physically challenging

Overall fine but both ways for this trip was delayed.

Flight was delayed by almost 5 hours. Suitcase was not loaded despite the flight being near empty (my colleagues’ suitcases did reach JFK, unlike mine). Had to argue on phone to get JetBlue to deliver the case to my hotel. Never again

The flight was excellent. The crew was welcoming and attentive.

Great! I love Jet Blue. My favorite airline! Very efficient, clean and timely.

Run out of snack choices. Why are the seats not padded for your butt? Are we sitting on blocks of wood or metal for $250-300 a pop? This ain’t spirit. Let’s get it together people

We were told that our flight would be delayed for 90+ minutes because of weather, so we went to get something to eat only to have them randomly start boarding 15 minutes after the announcement, with no warning.

Entertainment... No earphones passed out. Many including me couldn't use the TV. Legroom was good. Crew was indifferent and a bit surly. Free wifi was a nice convenience. Check in desk location was unknown. Gate number on the boarding passes was wrong.

Why does it have to be painful to fly long distances?

It is a modern tragedy that any airline expects you to travel for 14 hours in such discomfort and that the only way to add comfort is exorbitant prices. I was in pain by the time we landed. Shameful.

Original plane sidelined. Had to wait an hour for replacement.

Crew was very cooperative and professional. Passenger's first checked in bag should be free.

No real agent onsite helping you for missing luggage there. Not like the other airline next to UA desk, they have staff attending in their desk assisting answer/helping luggage issue, even after midnight.

Horrible, the flights kept delaying, so it is obvious that we won't be able to make it to the next connection. No easier/real agent on site to help you figure this out. UA agent on other counters refuse to assist you and direct us to use the QR code/call customer service. So inefficient and poor. While technology seems convenient, but it's not the best interest/experience for customers need help while there is active issue need assistance.

Food is very bad and entertint not too many options ... flight attendet service is not good

After the morning frenzy of 35 min wait through CLT security at 4;30 AM, it was nice to have a smooth pleasant boarding experience. This 6:30 AM flight was not full. We were able to get seated swiftly and took off promptly. Nice touch they distributed the old fashioned headsets with 8 mm jacks. Snacks were decent and arrival was uneventful.

My window shade didn’t work. So I missed coming into my city. ☹️

Flight was delayed in the gate by 5 hours and ultimately cancelled- rebooking service by United agents was terrible

Paid for premium economy had no tv the whole time the crew tried to reset/reboot but would not work they said they would put a trouble ticket in for it. We had 3 seats my tv was the only one that didn't work. They cancelled our flight re worked us on another that left us at airport over night on the floor I have a ten year old and a 78 diabetic mother which also had shingles and suffers from nerve pain in legs and back. Requested wheelchair service at all airports after the re route NO wheelchair service was there to help. WORST experience we have ever had. Went to American airlines assistance it was closed. I AM FURIOUS!!! I expect some sort of compensation from this traumatic experience and no need for flying points we don't plan on using American airlines again!!!!

This is by far the worst experience I have had with American Airlines. The start of this trip was a complete disaster. I purposely planned my trip so that I would weather any delays so that I could make very important meeting at the Pentagon. My flight was cancelled because of maintenance and I was put on the first flight the next day but I was late to the meeting. After a long week at the Pentagon I just wanted to go home and my flight home which was early in the day was delayed. Eventually the flight was delayed until the next day. I was not authorized a hotel room because DCA was my point of origin. So I paid for a hotel out of pocket. The flight this morning was boarded then deplaned because the aircraft was hot. The flow of information was not happening in DCA and made it worse when the news was bad. I am going to take a break from American for my next few military flights. Hopefully whatever has been going on with American Airlines will be resolved.

We had a 2 hour delay. The seats were smaller than most other airlines. The person in front of us wanted to lay back and we had to stop her because she was pressing against my girlfriend’s legs. We had to ask her to sit up and not lay back due to the lack of room.

Information when booking said the flight would be with American Airlines but the flight was actualy with British Airways. Check in from Orlando was nice and quick. I agreed to put my cabin case in the checked luggage as it was a full flight. Case came back damaged (unable to put the handle down) so will have to dispose of it. Seats were quite cramped with very little leg room, even for economy. This was the experience of both the outgoing and return flight. Cabin crew were ok and flight time was punctual.

Everything was fine once we actually got on our flight. It was more then annoying they canceled (delayed) our flight. We lost out on a day of our trip along with money on our stay. Plus we had to book another hotel. So expensive.

This flight was canceled and delayed several times without explanation. The plane was freezing cold and no wifi for messaging. Getting off the plane was terribly unorganized and felt like it took forever….

The flight was delayed several times without explanation. The seats were terribly uncomfortable and wifi isn’t included. All these make for a less than ideal flight.

The flights was delayed by hours and it was the firmest landing I have experienced in my life. My back is still sore.

Internet service was erratic. Crew service was poor and slow. My luggage on this non-stop flight was lost and not recovered

Terrible. I didn’t fly and I had an important meeting the next day.

My flight was uncomfortable and crammed. There were no pockets to store things, I couldn’t move my seat back slightly. Beverages including soda cost extra. My husband flew on another spirit airline flight, which was delayed a total of 48 hours, only to be canceled.

Two delays in less than 24hrs. They need to improve everything and restructure the whole company.

Terrible leg room, seats don’t recline, delayed flight, and even water isn’t free onboard

Flight was canceled less than 6 hours before takeoff, rebooked on a flight that was twice as long and left earlier so we couldn’t make it, when using text support option took over 2 hours to speak with someone.

Not enough help at airport during boarding process. Flight was delayed. Overall WORST flying experience I’ve ever had. Will NEVER FLT SPIRIT AGAIN

Terrible legroom, seats do not recline, tray table the size of an iPhone, delayed flight, have to pay 5$ to get a cup of water onboard.

Could have TV/Movie and some water ou soda free

Flight was good and clean but delayed over an hour on the return flight.

The non stop flight and able to go into Atlantic City airport. They could lower the prices. It starts out low but then if you want to bring luggage and pick your seat the price goes up quite a bit.

Flight got diwngraded last minute and left us stranded. I was told I’ll be given credit for my luggage and seat upgrades but haven’t got anything yet

I strongly dislike Frontier. I find them barebones, the seats not particularly comfortable, the nickel and diming is maddening, the app is TERRIBLE - super confusing to navigate, and the last 4 frontier flights I have flown have been on AVERAGE 2 hours late, one ruining a fancy night out in Vegas with reservations made well in advance, which was nodded to with a measly 5000 miles, which translates to almost nothing. At least credit a free checked bag or something.

8 hr delay. had to buy another ticket with another airline

Four and a half hour delay in total. What frustrates me most is the poor communication and disorganization.

I appreciated the upgrade to free cary-on bag and seat selection at no charge

FRONTIER SUCKS! The agent downstairs tricked me into booking, just to get to the gate. At the gate, they told me they couldn't help. I then called Customer Service. They and the gate attendants kept blaming each other. Neither side was willing to help the customer.

The agent at check-in was strident, unwelcoming, and condescending to customers ahead of me.

Flight was delay 9hrs and nothing was provided at airport, had to go and get a room to sleep in, paid for Uber back and fort with no offers until we landed back home a 1hr later for a $75 voucher for a future flight.

Didn't like anything..entire crew was very rude to everyone on the flight. Plane old and the trays fall down on you the while time you're flying. Charged more for a carry on bag than for the plane ticket itself. Did make it from point a to point b, but worth the extra money to fly with another airline

9 hours of delay!! Was not able to check my luggage that I paid for!!!

It was delayed 9 hours for operational reasons, despite the plane arriving to the airport on time.

Best Time to Visit Kerala

The best time to visit Kerala depends on what type of experiences you are looking for and what your preferences are. That said, below are 3 seasons that are the most popular for visiting.

Winter season is generally considered the best time to visit Kerala. The weather is mild and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 30°C. It’s an ideal time for beach vacations, houseboat cruises, and exploring hill stations like Munnar.

Summers in Kerala can be hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C. While it might be warm in the lowlands, the hill stations like Munnar offer a cool escape.

The monsoon season brings heavy rainfall to Kerala. The southwest monsoon (June to September) is the primary rainy season. While the rain can create lush landscapes, it may hinder outdoor activities.

 Unique Experiences by Season:

  • Winter:  Best for general sightseeing, beach vacations, and houseboat cruises.
  • Summer:  Ideal for hill station retreats and wildlife exploration in national parks.
  • Monsoon:  Great for Ayurvedic  retreats , and indoor cultural excursions without the crowds.

Getting to kerala.

Kerala is well-connected by air, rail, and road, making it easily accessible from various parts of India. However, the most common entry point for both domestic and international flights is through  Cochin International Airport (aka Kochi Airport).

This is the best way to get to Kochi, the hill stations of Munnar, and the Alleppey backwaters. It’s also a great place to land before heading south to the beaches of Varkala.

However, if you choose to start your trip on the southern end, you can always fly into Trivandrum International Airport. From there, you can work your way up north and fly out of the Cochin Airport.

I recommend conducting an Expedia or Skyscanner search to find the best flight deals from your starting point.

Recommendation for safe travel

If flying into Trivandrum on a late flight, spend the night near the airport or the nearest train station. Otherwise,  grab a transfer  from the airport directly to Varkala.

Get the app  for quick transfer scheduling access. This will come in handy!

Traveling By Train

Trains to Kochi (Ernakulam Junction):  Kochi has a major railway station known as Ernakulam Junction (ERS) and is well-connected to major cities throughout India.

Trains to Thiruvananthapuram:  Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) is the capital city and has a central railway station (Thiruvananthapuram Central) with frequent train services from various parts of the country.

Trains to Kozhikode (Calicut):  Kozhikode is another important railway station in northern Kerala, offering good connectivity.

Traveling By Road

National Highways:  Kerala is well-connected by a network of national highways. The National Highway 66 (previously NH47) and National Highway 544 (previously NH 212) are two major highways connecting Kerala with other states.

State Highways:  Kerala also has various state highways, making road travel convenient with options like buses, taxis, and private vehicles.

Interstate Buses:  Several state-run and private buses operate between Kerala and neighboring states. Major cities like Bangalore, Chennai, and Coimbatore have regular bus services to Kerala.

Self-Drive:  You can also opt for a  car rental  if you want to drive yourself. With scenic routes through Kerala, a road trip can often lead to your best experience.

Visa for Kerala, India

Foreign travelers are required to obtain a  visa  before visiting Kerala. However, if you’re a citizen from any of the following 11 countries, you can obtain a VoA (Visa on Arrival) from either the Kochi or Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram) Airport.

Countries Eligible for VoA:

  • New Zealand
  • The Philippines

Where to Stay (Kerala Accommodations)

make my trip kerala flight

To find the best option and prices for your stay in Kerala, I suggest cross-checking between Booking.com  and  Agoda .

If you prefer a vacation rental for a more comfortable “at-home” experience,  VRBO  is a great option.

If you’re a backpacker, I recommend exploring hostel options on  Hostelworld . Another option is searching for a homestay on  Homestays  which are similar to an Airbnb but more economical.

India’s Currency

India uses the official currency of the country, which is the Indian Rupee (INR). The Indian Rupee is abbreviated as “₹” and is often represented by the symbol ₹. It is the official legal tender throughout the entire country.

I recommend carrying some Indian currency for local transactions as credit and debit cards may not be accepted at all establishments. Especially in rural areas.

Exchanging Your Currency

Before exchanging currency, compare rates and fees across different options to get the best deal.

You’ll also want to be aware of any commissions, service charges, or fees associated with the exchange service you choose. Additionally, always use authorized and reliable sources to avoid potential scams or counterfeit currency issues.

Currency exchange services are available at airports, banks, and authorized currency exchange centers. Getting this taken care of in your home country and preferably NOT at the airport, will help minimize fees.

How to Get Around Kerala

I would suggest using  Google Maps  or  Mappls MapmyIndia  to research your itinerary routes. It will show you the fastest way to get around whether it’s by car, train, or bus. However, for these apps to work successfully, you’ll need a  pocket WiFi  or SIM Card such as a  DrimSim SIM card  or an  Airalo eSIM card .

Primary ways to get around Kerala:

By Bus:  Kerala has an extensive network of state-run and private buses connecting major cities, towns, and remote villages. State-run KSRTC buses and private operators offer regular services.

By Car:   Getting a ride  or  renting a car  is an option for more flexibility, especially when exploring remote areas.

By Taxis and Auto-rickshaws:  Taxis and auto-rickshaws are readily available for shorter distances and within cities. Negotiate fares before starting your trip or use meters if available.

There are various taxi options in Kerala. To ensure you select the best and most affordable service, view the different options and their reviews  HERE .

By Train:  With a railway system that connects the entire state, getting around by train is fairly easy. For both short and long distances. Cities like Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Alappuzha all have major railway stations.

Staying Connected in Kerala

Kerala has widespread mobile network coverage and available Wi-Fi in urban and tourist areas. Plus you can get free WiFi at most hotels and cafes but speeds may vary.

Consider your data needs and explore SIM card options for a more reliable and efficient connection during your Kerala trip. This way you can be sure to consistently stay connected as needed throughout your stay.

In addition to staying connected via WiFi, a good VPN service is essential. This will ensure your internet connection is secure and safe from intrusions. Especially while in a foreign country.

With  ExpressVPN , you’ll be able to safely secure your connection online. Whether you’re streaming, browsing, or using free public WiFi, encrypting your internet connection is critical.

Safety in Kerala

The state has strict safety guidelines and protocols in place to ensure visitors feel comfortable and safe during their stay.

However, as with any travel destination, it’s important to exercise common safety precautions. Pay attention to your belongings, use reliable transportation services, and be cautious in crowded or unfamiliar areas.

7 Day Vegan and Eco-Friendly Kerala Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive in Kochi

make my trip kerala flight

The first stop is Kochi City. After you get settled into your hotel, head over to  Loving Earth Cafe  in Fort Kochi to grab something to eat. Here you'll find plenty of delicious cruelty-free, plant-based food options on the menu. They even have a yoga studio if you want to unwind and stop in for a class.

If you're up for a cultural experience you can grab a  skip-the-line  ticket and head over to the Kathakali Dance Show. This show takes place in the city of Kochi so it's a perfect option for staying local on your first night.

Unless you would rather opt for a more low-key, eco and nature-infused kinda stay. In which case, I would recommend heading to  Coconut Lagoon .

Next up, is Alleppey which is a little over an hour drive.

Day 2 - Explore the Kerala Backwaters in Alleppey (Alappuzha)

make my trip kerala flight

Begin your day out in nature with a backwater cruise along the iconic Lake Vembanad. The largest lake in Kerala. Glide through the labyrinth of interconnected canals, flanked by emerald-green paddy fields and swaying palm trees.

You'll paddle through a scenic canvas of rural life, amidst traditional houseboats and vibrant wildlife along the tranquil waters.

This Kerala tour will allow you to immerse yourself in nature as you navigate the network of waterways. All while gaining a profound appreciation for the unique ecosystem and cultural richness of the  Kerala Backwaters .

The good thing about Kerala is that it's predominantly vegetarian so you shouldn't have a hard time finding vegan-friendly places to eat. You can also use the  HappyCow app  to explore nearby eateries.

The next destination is Munnar.   A highly popular destination that is surrounded by nature’s beautiful dense forests, rolling hills, and mountain terrain. It’ll take around 4 hours and 18 minutes to get there so leave bright and early!

Day 3 - Explore the Tea Plantations in Munnar

make my trip kerala flight

Getting here is a bit longer but well worth the time. I recommend staying at the  Kaivalyam Wellness Retreat  (aka  Sitaram Mountain Retreat ) to enhance your travel experience.

The retreat sits amidst spice plantations and has an in-house restaurant with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options.

>>READ KAIVALYAM'S TRIPADVISOR REVIEWS

Today is all about enjoying the day exploring the tea gardens, tea museum, waterfalls, and observing the elephants in their natural habitat. This will be an exciting adventure!

Be sure to book either of the tours below (or both) to secure your spot ahead of time. If you want to do both, you can opt for doing the Elephant Tour on Day 3 and adding on the Tea Trail Tour to Day 4.

Both are immersive experiences that involve exploring Kerala's unique culture and providing insights about its rich history.

In addition, with the tea tour, you'll have the opportunity to walk amidst aromatic rolling hills, while breathing in the purest of air. You can also interact with the tea pluckers and experience tea tasting at the tea museum factory.

Something a bit different (and healthier) than the typical wine tasting.

Day 4 - Discover more of Munnar!

make my trip kerala flight

Embark on a trekking adventure through Eravikulam National Park , home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. Anamudi Peak (the highest peak in the Western Ghats), and the Attukal Waterfalls add to the experience.

Take some  hiking snacks  with you so you stay fueled throughout your hike and don't forget to stay  hydrated !

After returning from your hiking exploration, spend the afternoon relaxing and retreating at the resort.

Take advantage of all that  Kaivalyam Wellness Retreat  has to offer. Maybe even pamper yourself with an  Ayurvedic treatment or massage to help unwind from your trek.

The next stop is located  2 hours and 48 minutes away in Thekkady.

Day 5 - Head to Periyar National Park in Thekkady

make my trip kerala flight

This is a great stop for wildlife enthusiasts. Here you'll have the option to choose from many ecotourism adventures at  Periyar Tiger Reserve .

I would suggest a nature walk or trek through the jungle amidst the lush green hills and dense forests, a boat safari adventure, or bamboo rafting with a camping overnight stay. That's if you don't mind roughing it for one night!

If you want to skip the overnight camping experience, the reserve has other  accommodations  to choose from. Or, you can stay at  any of these amazing eco-resorts  in Thekkady.

Other  wildlife sanctuaries include:

Parambikulam Tiger Reserve Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary

The next day will be a 4-hour and 34-minute trip to Varkala.

Day 6 - Kayak the Mangroves in Varkala

make my trip kerala flight

The final stop is the beautiful Varkala Beach which borders the Arabian Sea. Today will be more about connecting with nature and exploring the mangroves on kayak.

This hidden gem offers an ideal setting for a serene paddling experience. With motorboats prohibited in the area, the calm waters provide the perfect setting for a quiet exploration of the mangrove forests.

You will be led by a professional guide who will not only ensure your safety but also provide valuable insights into the unique ecosystem surrounding you.

>>CLICK HERE TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT

The trip is 4 hours long so it's best to catch the 6:30 AM trip to make the most of your day. Plus, it makes for a more tranquil and meditative experience through nature.

Spend the rest of the day relaxing along Varkala Beach, take in the views from the Varkala Cliffs, or wind down with a relaxing, scenic boat trip to Ponnumthuruthu Island.

To get to Ponnumthuruthu Island you would need to head over to  Nedunganda Village to catch a boat ride. It's about 19 minutes from Varkala Beach.

Day 7 - Prepare for Your Return Flight

If you're flying out of Trivandrum Airport, you could spend time lounging by your resort pool and grab something to eat at one of the local vegan/vegetarian restaurants before you leave. Depending on what time your flight takes off.

On the contrary, if you're flying out of Cochin Airport, you will need to head out early to make your flight. Cochin International Airport is about 4-1/2 hours from Varkala so you want to give yourself enough time.

Planning a Longer Trip?

If you want to plan for a 10 or 15-day trip, you can add on the following destinations. They are among the most popular places to visit in the state of Kerala.

Gavi Forest Mattancherry Palace – Commonly known as the Dutch Palace Paradesi Synagogue  St. Francis Church – The oldest European church Padmanabhaswamy Temple Napier Museum

12 Things to Know Before Planning Kerala Backwater Tour

Customer review, sylvia sedrak.

green-rating-png

Excellent Tour Company TMI/Manvendra were very responsive to our short notice request for an 8 night stay in Kerela. Unfortunately some important details were missed. One hotel was booked 50 minutes away from our destination, which was very difficult after already traveling 5 hours in the car with a baby. Our driver had excellent driving skills but poor English and customer service, which caused frustration. Be sure to specify rooms at hotels when confirming itineraries, otherwise its likely you'll get the lowest standard room option.

P Roy Thomas

Great Holiday in Kerala Big Thanks to Mr. Manavendra @ Tour My India for planning and organizing a fabulous family trip for us. He understood our tour brief very well - about travelling with aging parents and kids and scheduled a nice relaxing trip along with optional activities too. Hotel suggestions were great too along with overall transportation and . He also went out of his way to arrange my last minute airport transfer request. We will definitely avail their services again for all our future family getaways in and around India.

Kerala Tour Packages FAQs

Q. Which is the best backwater destination in Kerala? A. As you sort through Kerala tour packages, make sure it includes Kumarakom in your itinerary. Kumarakom is that dreamy backwater getaway that a typical picture-postcard from Kerala is made up of. An upmarket destination with its smattering of exclusive resorts fringing the backwaters with their personal jetties for you to make evening trips on the Vembanad Lake and catch a sunset. Kumarakom is serene with huge patches of water thick with water lilies. Sit out on the balcony of your resort and you will be able to spot fishermen with their nets hauling out the catch of the day or the locals going about their job in their wooden boats. Kumarakom is green, atmospheric and offers you a quietude that is unique to it. Q. Is a houseboat stay in Kerala expensive? A. Most Kerala holiday packages comprise a night’s stay in a houseboat. It could be availed as houseboats come in a range of budgets. The houseboats can be hired for a day trip, to catch a sunset, for spending a night or consecutive nights. The cost of a houseboat stay would depend on that. There are prominent hotel chains such as Taj that offer luxury houseboat stays panning over a few days where you would have your personal butler cooking you fresh meals as per your order and your houseboat would have a bedroom, bathroom, lobby, kitchen and sit-out and you can watch the backwater scenery through the day. Look out the window or sit on your deck and watch day turn into night, the colours of the changing sky and experience something you never would otherwise on a hotel stay. Q. What major international airlines operate to Kerala? A. Among European carriers there is Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Finn Air, Air France, Al Italia, Virgin Atlantic, Swiss Air, Austrian Airlines and Swiss Air. American carriers include Delta Airlines, American Airlines and United Airlines. The Asian carriers include Emirates, SriLankan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Etihad, Kuwait Airways, Oman Air, Malaysian Airlines, Gulf Air, and Qatar Airways. Q. What is the best season to visit Kerala? A. October to March is the best time to visit Kerala. At this time Kerala experiences a mild winter which means there is none of the humidity of the monsoons and no sweltering heat of the summer months. The daytime is bright and sunny, the skies are clear and mellow wind wafts in from the sea around sundown. This is the best time to drift on a houseboat in the backwaters of Kumakarom or Alleppey, soak up the sun on the Kovalam beach, take a jetty ride to the Jewish synagogue in Cochin, set out on a jungle safari in the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary or simply cool your heels off in Munnar. No better time to enjoy Kerala’s vivid scenery. Q. What is a good place in Kerala for leisure and Ayurveda? A. Varkala is the best choice as it ticks both the categories. It is a laid-back getaway with cliffs fronting a turbulent sea, a lineup of coconut groves, regular yoga session planned by the hotels and resorts, cafes serving the fresh catch of the day, afforded by the setting are several Ayurveda clinics and resorts that specialise in Ayurvedic therapies complete with their resident doctors and nutritionists. Q. Is Uber available in Kerala? A. Only three cities in Kerala have Uber; namely Trivandrum, Cochin and Thrissur. A typical intercity Uber trip is between Cochin to any part of Kerala. In such an arrangement, you need to pay the return kilometre rate like in a regular taxi. You can also book an Uber ride from Alleppey and Kottayam provided it is headed to Cochin alone. Q. Is it safe to stay in a houseboat? A. There are houseboats meant for a day trip and there are overnight houseboats. The latter can further be categorised into Deluxe, Premium and Luxury categories. Make sure you are booking a houseboat stay with a reputed provider or the houseboats belong to a prominent hotel chain. There will be a full crew attending to you and you won’t have any discomfort, save for the minor insects that creep up on-board. Make sure you have researched your provider well before zeroing on an overnight stay. Q. Is it okay to visit Kerala in the monsoon? A. July to September is the rainy season in Kerala when the state draws its shutters and goes indoors. The beaches are empty, the attractions are abandoned in this season, even the local shacks shut shop. If you at all have to visit in monsoon to see the backwaters in their rain-soaked glory, visit late September when the heavy rains have subsided. Q. What are the top places to shop for silk sarees in Kerala? A. Parthas Textiles outlet in Trivandrum, Pulimoottil Silks in Thrissur, Ethnic Weaves in Trivandrum, Seematti in Kottayam, Kalyan Sarees in Kannur, Kalyan Kendra in Kozhikode, Jayalakshmi Silks in Kochi, are among the popular hubs to buy a gorgeous Kerala silk saree. Q. What is a great honeymooning destination in Kerala? A. The backwaters of Kumarakom offer the perfect retreat to honeymooning couples. Add to it the presence of the mighty Vembanad Lake that makes the sunsets here more colourful and the scenery more dramatic. Munnar too is a cosy getaway for honeymooners, but nothing like the backwaters to enjoy a few days of serene country scenery with the soft gurgle of waters always in the background. Q. Is alcohol served aboard houseboats? A. Houseboats typically do not come with stocked bars as serving alcohol anywhere in Kerala requires a special liquor licence. But houseboats let you bring in your own alcohol; sometimes they even pick up beer locally and serve it to you. There is no law against enjoying your own alcohol on a houseboat. Q. Where does the Nehru Trophy Boat Race take place in Kerala? A. The fabled Nehru Trophy Boat Race or the snake boat race takes place on the Punnamada Lake near Alleppey. It happens annually in August on its second Saturday. The sight of watching more than 100 rowers navigate on their punted canoes through this approximately 2 kilometre stretch competing with each other as they make it to the finishing line, is a sight to behold.

  • Q. Can I make changes to my domestic holiday package? A. Yes, you can make changes to tour packages. Most online travel agents offer a wide range of customisable tour packages where you may choose transport, stay and sightseeing according to your taste and comfort. However, the itinerary of a group tour or a pre-set holiday package cannot be altered. Such itineraries are designed with fixed travel dates, and all services are on a sharing basis. Q. Do I need to book my flight tickets separately? A. No, you do not have to book the flights separately while making a booking of India tour packages. Your flight is a part of the itinerary, and it will be included in the cost of the package. However, some packages featured on the website might not include airfare. The price listing will either read 'airfare/flight optional' or 'airfare/flight inclusive'. With airfare/flight optional packages, you can decide if you want to take a package with or without airfare. Q. Can I place a tour booking on hold? A. Yes, hold a booking with most OTA by making certain advance payment. Based on the nature of the service and the time left for the service, book holiday packages in India by paying a brief amount through the website and pay the balance amount in the next 24/48 hours. Q. Does the tour packages include hotels with good ratings? A. Most OTAs provide and recommend hotels based on their reviews and ratings put on the internet by customers and their previous customer experience. However, many companies do not guarantee hotels quality of service and their star ratings. Hence, it is strongly recommended that you cross-check your travel aggregator website and go through the reviews and photographs of the hotels before booking India tour packages. Q. How do I know if my booking is confirmed? A. For all India tour packages bookings made online, you will receive a confirmation message via email. This email will include your booking/reservation number and travel details. You can also check your booking status online on the website by filling the details of your booking reference number and your email id or mobile number.

Top 3 airlines serving from Kerala to Anywhere

I had a great experience with Singapore airlines as always. The partner airline, Scoot was fine except my bag was misplaced during the shuffle. Ultimately, my baggage arrived intact. Attempting to inquire about my baggage was impossible.

Excellent meal served with real utensils, cardboard served hot meals instead of plastic utensils and plastic covers. Quick service, friendly and accommodating stewards.

All in all the flight was good. Love the fact that for airline food it was piping hot

I commend the flight attendants on our SFO-SIN flight who went above and beyond to provide us with extra snacks and food. This type of service makes the flight experience personal and awesome.

Seating cramped; close to toilet, foul smelling and noisy, very unhygienic and disease risk Free and paid Wi-Fi NOT accessible at all - misleading advertising Very expensive sunglasses disappeared from back seat pouch. Coffee disgusting and cold

When boarding, after business class should be premium economy, but economy class already lined-up at the gate blocking premium economy to board. Singapore airline crew should done a better job to organize this chaos :( Thank you.

The premium economy seats were not that great. It could have been more premium than economy seats.

The singapore airline now compared before covid, I like the service before covid. SQ was the best of all airlines but now I am going to look for different airline if I am travelling in asia.

Flying with Singapore airlines is always excelllent - the crew are lovely and the food too is great. It’s my number 1 airline

They were able to assist my elderly father and myself after not being able to check in to scoot. The counter service was phenomenal. They did what they could to get us on the next plane so we could catch our Connecting flight. Scoot closed early on us so we ended up missing our flight.

Bad experience. Departure time delayed from 1610 to 1740. After the flight was pushed back, pilot said there was a technical issue on the aircraft and we couldn’t take off. Delayed another hour to solve it.

The flight was cancelled. I wasn't informed where to check in, how and when. It wasn't easy to get in contact with Cathay service representative, and they were not very helpful... The staff on the airport - Air Canada (I assume) were the most helpful, kind efficient, patient... Thank you for all your help and care, for your patience, for your professionalism!!!

The first economy rows have remote space in the seat which eats in the seating space. The seats are also smaller compared to other airlines.

Cathay Pacific seems to be an airline in trouble and on its way out. Lots of broken or poorly functioning things like entertainment screens, seats, and enough well trained staff to handle a full flight. Sad...

Excellent. Planes are a little older and could get some refurbishment, but besides that everything was excellent.

Not good. Flight was purchased for my father who needed medical assistance to board and transfer due to a heart condition. No one at Hong Kong from Cathay was there to assist and he barely made the connection. When I talked to him he could barely breath and was not sure he was going to make it. Really poor service even though the ticket stated he needed a wheelchair assistance.

While I was in great pain, the seat was sufficiently comfortable to allow me to rest and not be in so much pain.

Flight crew was especially thoughtful and attentive, made sure our seats were comfortable so we could rest on the long flight

The coffee in Premium economy and economy is terrible. That's it. Everything else is great

One of the worst flight in business class by qatar airways and I’m no stranger with qatar airways businesses class, I travelled with the extensively in the past 12 years

The cosmetic condition was pretty run down. The carpets were badly worn out. Even the paint on the wings was chipped and peeled! Looks like they are running these 787s to the ground..

WiFi didn’t work on both sectors so made killing time harder - planes clean modern and good flight crew - would do again if WiFi works

6hrs fly they dont give you a glass of water from seoul to singapore need to buy drink and food plus they charge for bag on international fly is always Free 1 bag from seoul to singapore is Not a local fly you are traveling true asia same story from singapore to Bali no water drink after payment for bag drink cost more the regular airline Well never use this company again we use regular company like Delta korea japan China and even scoot parent company Singapore Air

We had 2 attempts to land at Singapore Changing during a thunderstorm. Everything was delayed by 1 hour plus.

Boarding was not accordingly after front seat, bmf then back seat. This delayed for at least 40mins or more. The staff at Jakarta can do better. Is chaos at the entry to board the plane. This tarnished Scoot reputation when everyone was talking about it.

The crew was not customer oriented at all, even confrontational . The aircraft needs more attention to detail as far as comfort, and the 1 hour sitting at the gate with no air is inexcusable

We flew on the 787 Dreamliner direct to main gate at KLIA2, quick entry via eGate and on the train 41mins after touchdown. Go well SCOOT

Was on scoot plus. The only good thing about the flight was the spacious seats. Tables and armrests were extremely dirty Food: bad Entertainment: non existent Wifi: unable to connect, then was painfully slow that we couldn’t even send messages Good thing we had a night flight, so we just slept throughout.

Not clear why boarding passes could only be issued at the counter and not through the kiosk. I had already check-in on the web, so waiting to obtain a boarding pass 1.5 hours before the actual flight defeats the purpose of early web check-in.

no charging point. food offering is limited and very much on the budget line. Overall is not satisfying for such a price and duration of flight.

Flight delayed or canceled? How to get ahead of it. | Cruising Altitude

make my trip kerala flight

  • If you have a tight connection, let a flight attendant know.
  • Research your alternatives before you get to the customer service counter.
  • Know your rights.

It’s the realization no traveler wants to have: Your flight is delayed, canceled or diverted, and as a result, you’ll miss your connection or otherwise not make it where you’re trying to go.

It’s a frustrating situation, but it doesn’t always have to be the end of the world – or even the end of your trip. Ultimately, airlines want to get you where you’re trying to get to, and sometimes, you can help smooth that process by doing your research and being prepared when you finally have your turn with customer service.

So the next time your travel plans go awry, here are the things to remember.

Tight connection? Let a flight attendant know

If your flight is delayed and you have a connection, you may still be able to continue without too much hassle.

Nadia Henry, a travel adviser who goes by Sparkle professionally, told me flight attendants may be able to help make that connection a little easier for you.

“If the flight is not full, they can move their seat up if they’re nice,” she said. “They can make an announcement that there are people that are on a connecting flight, (so) please let these people off first.”

A few weeks ago, I heard the cabin crew leader on my flight announce multiple times that there were many passengers on our plane with tight connections after a long delay before our departure. He requested that everyone allow those passengers off first, and the message seems to have stuck. It was the first time I can remember in ages that people generally stayed in their seats when we arrived at the gate.

Sparkle added, however, that flight attendants may not know your predicament if you don’t ask for help, so it’s important to be your own advocate if you encounter problems while traveling.

Research your alternatives

Being your own advocate isn’t limited to asking flight attendants for help. If you’re going to miss a connection or your flight has been canceled, you may need to have all or part of your trip rebooked.

In that case, it’s a good idea to approach customer service with your preferred flights if you’re not able to rebook them yourself. Many airlines now offer self-service rebooking tools on their apps and websites, but those don’t always present every option.

So, how can you do this research? Well, first, download the airline’s app on your phone before you travel. That will be the easiest way to get updates and make changes to your itinerary on the fly if something goes wrong. Take advantage of inflight Wi-Fi or service on the ground to get a jump on your fellow passengers when it comes to looking up your options and rebooking yourself. The sooner you can make those changes, the more options will be available.

“Doing your homework before you get to the counter is always good. You can be proactive to let the representative know 'I already looked this up,'” Sparkle said. Especially when agents are dealing with multiple delays and cancellations, knowing what flights you want when you get to the counter can help make their job easier because it means they don’t have to spend time searching for those alternatives for you.

Sparkle also said airlines can sometimes rebook you on other carriers, so it’s worth seeing what other airlines have available as well.

Keep in mind there are no guarantees when things go wrong like this. Your preferred flights might not be available, or your airline might not have a partnership deal to get you on another carrier you’re requesting, but it never hurts to ask.

Like most things in air travel, airlines usually accommodate elite frequent flyers and passengers in premium cabins first when things get disrupted. But if you don’t have status and you’re flying economy, you can still maximize your chances of getting your preferred alternate flights by using self-service rebooking tools as soon as possible. You can also reach out to airlines on multiple platforms, such as through their app or social media, while waiting to get customer service help at the airport. If you have lounge access, you also may be able to take advantage of shorter customer service lines there.

Zach Griff, a fellow aviation journalist at The Points Guy, recently posted a thread on social media about his best practices when he encounters flight disruptions, and researching alternative flights was his No. 1 piece of advice.

Know your rights

Different airlines have different policies around rebooking, including hotel and meal vouchers, when your flight is delayed or canceled for reasons within their control.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has a dashboard that outlines each carrier’s rules, and a quick check before you get to the customer service counter or connect with a representative electronically or on the phone can help you understand what you can and can’t ask for in your situation.

For example, Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue and United Airlines will rebook you on other airlines if your flight is significantly delayed for reasons they control. But Allegiant, Frontier, Hawaiian, Southwest and Spirit Airlines won’t.

You may be entitled to a refund

If your flight is canceled for any reason and you choose not to travel on the alternatives your airline offers you, you’re eligible for a refund to your original form of payment – even if you bought a nonrefundable ticket.

The Transportation Department recently announced changes to its mandatory refund policies that will take effect this fall. These policies include automatic refunds if a service you pay for, like onboard Wi-Fi, doesn’t work on your flight.

One more tip

Beyond advocating for yourself during a travel hiccup, Sparkle said there are things you can do to prepare.

“Always keep any important medication in your carry-on bag. Also, always keep a small bag, whether a knapsack or small carry-on, with a change of clothes and all your toiletries,” she said.

International travel documents for children

See what documents a child needs to travel to or from the U.S. alone or with a parent or relative.

Children traveling to the U.S.

All children, including infants, must have their own travel documents such as a passport or document from a Trusted Traveler Program to enter the U.S. If you travel or are going to travel with a child, consider taking the following documents:

  • If the child is traveling with only one of their custodial parents, they must have a letter of consent, preferably in English and notarized, from the other parent or signed by both parents. The letter should say "I acknowledge that my son/daughter is traveling outside the country with [the name of the adult] with my permission."
  • If one parent has sole custody of the child, a copy of the custody document can take the place of the other parent's letter.
  • Parents who frequently cross the border by land with a minor must always carry a letter of permission from the other parent.

U.S. citizen children traveling abroad

Ports of entry in many countries have security measures to prevent international child abduction . If you are traveling alone with your child, you may be required to present documentation proving you are the parent or legal guardian. You may also need a letter of permission from the other parent for your child to travel.

If your child travels alone, depending on the country, they may be required to present a notarized letter from both parents or their legal guardian. If a minor is traveling abroad and is not accompanied by both parents or a legal guardian, contact the embassy or consulate of the country you will be visiting and ask about entry and exit requirements for that country.

  • Both parents or guardians must approve that we can issue a passport to a child, and go with the child to apply in person.
  • If one or both parents or guardians cannot apply with their child, you will need to show us more documents.
  • You cannot renew your child's passport using Form DS-82.
  • Passports for children under age 16 are only valid for 5 years.

Steps to Apply

1. fill out form ds-11 and print it.

Use our Form Filler tool  to fill out your child's form on a desktop or laptop computer and then print it. If you are experiencing technical issues with the Form Filler, download a PDF .

Fill Out Form DS-11 Online

Tips to complete your child's form :

  • Do not sign your child's form until asked to do so by a passport acceptance agent or employee.
  • You can apply for a passport book , a passport card , or both documents.
  • You may ask for a larger passport book with more visa pages, at no extra cost, by checking the 'large book' box at the top of the DS-11.

2. Get Evidence of U.S. Citizenship (and a photocopy)

Your evidence must be an original or replacement copy. The document must have the official seal or stamp of the office which issued it. You must submit one of the following documents for your child:

  • Issued by the city, county, or state of birth
  • Lists applicant's full name, date of birth, and place of birth
  • Lists the parent(s)' full names
  • Has the date filed with registrar's office (must be within one year of birth)
  • Has the registrar's signature
  • Has the seal or stamp of the city, county, or state which issued it
  • Consular Report of Birth Abroad or Certification of Birth
  • Certificate of Citizenship
  • Please note you must also provide a document, such as a birth certificate, that lists the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of the child. Full validity means the document is or was valid for 10 years for adults and 5 years for children under 16.

If you cannot submit one of these documents, go to our  Citizenship Evidence page  for more information.

Paper only : You cannot submit digital evidence of U.S. citizenship such as a mobile or electronic birth certificate. You must submit physical evidence of U.S. citizenship and a photocopy of the document.

Returning your child's document : We will return your child's document in a separate mailing up to 8 weeks after you receive the new passport.

Tips for making a photocopy :

  • Black and white (no color)
  • Use 8.5 inch by 11 inch paper
  • Use a single side of the paper

If you do not submit a photocopy, you must submit a second copy of your citizenship evidence. We will keep this copy for our records.

Sample U.S. Birth Certificate

3. Show Your Relationship to Your Child

You must submit a document that lists the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of the child. Examples include:

  • U.S. birth certificate (also evidence of U.S. citizenship)
  • Foreign birth certificate
  • Adoption decree
  • Divorce or custody decree
  • A court order

Some documents, like a U.S. birth certificate, show  both  U.S. citizenship and parental relationship. These documents must be originals or certified copies (not photocopies).

You and your child may have different last names, as long as the document showing your relationship to your child lists your full name.

If your name is different than the one on the document showing your relationship to your child, submit proof of your legal name change.

4. Get a Photo ID (and a photocopy)

Both parents or guardians must bring a physical, photo ID and a photocopy of it. If your photo ID is from a different state than the state in which you are applying, bring a second photo ID.

You must show at least  one  of these photo IDs:

  • Valid or expired, undamaged U.S. passport book or passport card
  • In-state, fully valid driver's license or enhanced driver's license with photo
  • Certificate of Naturalization
  • Certificate of Citizenship
  • Government employee ID (city, county, state, or federal)
  • U.S. military or military dependent ID
  • Current (valid) foreign passport
  • Matricula Consular (Mexican Consular ID) used by a parent of a U.S. citizen child applicant
  • U.S. Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) used by a parent of a U.S. citizen child applicant
  • Trusted Traveler IDs (including valid Global Entry, FAST, SENTRI, and NEXUS cards)
  • Enhanced Tribal Cards and Native American tribal photo IDs
  • In-state, fully-valid learner's permit with photo
  • In-state, fully-valid non-driver ID with photo
  • Temporary driver's license with photo

If you do not have one of these photo IDs, go to our  Identification page  for more information.

5. Show More Documents (if both parents or guardians cannot apply)

  • Both parents or guardians must approve that we can issue a passport to a child, and go with the child to apply in person.
  • If one or both parents or guardians cannot apply in person with their child, you will need to show more documents.

Important : Submit  Form DS-3053  and other notarized statements within three months of signing them.

6. Provide a Photo

You must provide one photo with your child's application. Go to our  Passport Photo page  for photo requirements and to see examples of photos.

  • Do not attach or staple your child's photo to the form. The acceptance agent or passport employee will review the photo and staple it to your form.
  • Some  passport acceptance facilities
  • A company which offers photo services
  • Home. Ask your friend or family member to take your child's photo. Print it on glossy or matte photo quality paper.

7. Calculate Fees

When applying using Form DS-11, you will pay two separate fees - an application fee and an execution (acceptance) fee. You will pay the application fee to the U.S. Department of State, and the execution (acceptance) fee to the facility which takes your application.

  • Add $60 to your application fee if you want  expedited service .
  • Add $19.53 to your application fee if you want us to ship your completed passport in 1-2 days after we issue it.
