Make sure you check shore excursion prices!

I received an e mail offering me 20% off shore excursions for my up and coming cruise on Seaview. When I went into it and priced up a tour to,Pompeii it came up at £54 per adult and this was the price already with a discount. On checking MSC Shore Excursions (without entering a booking reference) the same tour was showing at £47. Phoned MSC who could not explain different prices but they are looking into it! Just make sure you check prices before committing to any tour.

We saw the 20% discount as well when we sailed the Seaside last month. The supposed discount was the same price we paid when booking the excursions months earlier. We figured it was bunk and just another MSC website glitch. Never thought about calling customer service though.
I queried this 20% saving last year and it is really the difference between paying before you cruise or being charged the 15% extra service charge if you book on board.
UPDATE - After lenthgy talks with MSC UK I was transferred to a senior supervisor who was most helpful. She confirmed that there was a gross error in the IT department whereby the price was showing at £47 if just browsing the general shore excursions (without entering any booking reference) but £54 if done via Manage My Booking!!
Not wanting to miss out on this tour the supervisor kindly agreed to book it for us but took no money at the time so it now appears as an outstanding amount on our booking. She is hoping to get us either a refund of the difference (not a huge sum admittedly but it is the principle) or we may be offered some on board credit to compensate for all the trouble this has caused. We should know the outcome early in the coming week.
I think MSC really need to shake up their IT department, the website is awful and we even had to phone in most of our passenger details as the website could either not eaccessed or would not allow us to enter details in full.
Hope others do not have the same problems.
Successful outcome after the senior supervisor acted so quickly and efficiently. It was a wrong price showing in the general MSC Shore Excursions pages - someone in IT made an error I would guess. Anyway we have booked the Pompeii tour, paid the £54 price but have been offered some on board credit to make up for all the inconvenience.
Really think MSC need to get their website sorted out- the supervisor told me that the whole system crashed over the past weekend, they could not log on to their own computers. This affected not only the UK but America and other countries too. Let’s hope things are better now.
Good luck with your planning

Hi Cruisers,
We are to cruise on the Preziosa in late August to Northern Europe (from Copenhagen) calling at Stockholm, Tallinn, St Petersburg and Kiel.
Can someone please help with the following questions:
Any guidance on the best excursions for these ports?
Is it cheaper to book on board the ship or in advance? (is the price quoted in GBP (£) and Euro the same, i.e without exchange rate conversion?)
Pricing for excursions state that it cannot be combined with pricing reserved for Yacht Club cruisers. Is it cheaper to book on board if cruising in Yacht Club cabins?
There is an excursion package which is slightly cheaper than the individual excursions. Any good/bad experience on these anyone?

For most cruise lines you will see them when you log in to your personal account and go to that section (excursions). But you will not see anything until a few short months before your embarkation. Excursions get scheduled and canceled regularly based on passenger participation under the best circumstances. I would expect to have to take a last look to see what is actually available and what is left of any pre-bookings if I've made any and keep my expectations in check.
I read that fully vaccinated passengers will be allowed to go out on their own and do their own sightseeing/excursions.
They can avoid the exorbitant prices charged by the Cruise lines
Where did you read this? As far as I know there will be no privillege for vaccinated passengers, at least not on EU cruises for Schengen countries. But maybe rules have changed. I would really appreciate if that becomes true.

It depends on what country you are booking in. MSC used to keep it at the link below for US bookings, but they haven't got it updated yet. You can change the country code at the top of the page to find it for other markets.

Currently US based sailings will allow passengers showing proof of vaccination to do their own excursions. MSC in the EU and UK currently require all passengers to do MSC sold and approved "bubble" excursions.

I'm definitely a proponent of locking threads after a couple years, and CC finally adopted that policy for threads after 12 years. But for someone's first post I won't hassle them.

- Who can book the Easy and Accessible shore excursions? These easy tours are available for all guests and are wheelchair accessible. Easy & Accessible excursions are unique in that they offer:
- Completely step-free tour routes
- Wheelchair Accessible vehicles
- Shorter distances
- Slower pace
- Accessible restrooms with wide doors along the route
- Professional and compassionate tour guides experienced in working with senior and limited mobility clients
- What type of vehicles are used for the Easy & Accessible shore excursions? Easy & Accessible shore excursions use accessible vehicles equipped with either a ramp or lift for easy wheelchair access.
- How can I trust that these tours are fully accessible? Our Easy & Accessible shore experiences have been designed and vetted over many years by world-renowned accessibility experts and by travellers with disabilities. Routes are verified and tested consistently to meet the high standards set by MSC Cruises.
- How big are the groups for the Easy & Accessible shore excursions? To make these tours more enjoyable, group sizes are smaller than regular tours, these are not large motor coach groups. For most tours, small accessible vans are used.
- How can the guide assist me with my mobility needs? The tour guides conducting these accessible tours have several years of experience in touring with limited mobility guests and their families. They are patient, compassionate and very knowledgeable. Please note that guides are not permitted to push wheelchairs. Guests in wheelchairs must be able to self-propel or have a companion push them.
- What can I expect from my Easy & Accessible shore excursions? Accessible shore excursions are authentic experiences, designed to limit the amount of walking, without compromising on the experience. If you are asking yourself: "Will I get to leave the bus?”, the answer is “Yes!”. While other tours labelled as “accessible” only allow you to see the destination through a bus window, MSC Cruises offers wheelchair accessible shore excursions that include interior visits to castles, churches, museums, palaces, and historic ruins.
- How do I make sure my mobility equipment isn't too big or too heavy for the excursion? For each Easy & Accessible tour, the maximum combined weight allowed (equipment + mobility user) as well as maximum equipment dimension allowed (height, length, and width) are provided in their tour description notes. Please make sure to carefully check and verify that your equipment respects the dimensions allowed before booking the tour.
- In which destinations can I book Easy & Accessible shore excursions Currently, the Easy & Accessible shore excursion program is available throughout several Caribbean ports. You can see a complete list of destinations offering Easy & Accessible tours listed above.
- When should I book my Easy & Accessible shore excursion? We suggest you book your Easy & Accessible shore excursion at least 2months before your cruise in order to secure your space.
- Can I cancel my booked Easy & Accessible shore excursion? It is possible to cancel your Easy & Accessible tours, up to 4 days prior to your cruise departure date.
- Why is a Minimum number of participants required? The minimum number of participants is required to guarantee the tour to run at the individual price displayed on the website. In case the number of participants is not met, guests will be given the choice to book the tour for an additional cost, as a private tour. The individual price will then vary depending on the number of participants.

7 Most Affordable Cruise Lines That’ll Make Your Cruising Dreams Come True
Posted: October 2, 2023 | Last updated: October 2, 2023
The cheapest cruise lines
Cruising is often described as the ultimate relaxing vacation. You only unpack once, yet you wake up in a new country or island every morning. You also never have to worry about where to eat, there are nonstop activities onboard that keep everyone entertained—and most everything is included in the price. So you don't have to worry much about overspending once you're on board if you book on one of the most affordable cruise lines.
Of course, everything is more expensive these days, leaving some travelers to wonder if there are still affordable cruises available to meet their vacation budgets. Thankfully, that answer is yes, and there are several brands that still provide exceptional value aboard their floating cities. Many are among the best cruise lines , and some are even frequent cruisers' favorite cruises . In fact, you might be surprised to learn that living on a cruise ship can be cheaper than a mortgage , in case you decide you never want to return from your vacation.
So follow these cruise tips for how to save money on a cruise by booking the most affordable cruise lines. You may even be able to sneak in an extra vacation this year with all your savings. Here's what to pack for a cruise .
How much does a cheap cruise cost?
Cheap cruises usually range in price from $40 to $100 per night per person. To put that deal in perspective, imagine having your accommodations, food and entertainment covered for roughly $50 a day on a traditional land-based trip—you'd be hard-pressed to stay within that budget just for your meals. It's truly impressive that these all-inclusive cruises can charge so little.
But before you get too excited over these low prices, don't forget to factor in the cost of the extras when calculating your total expenses—that's one of the secrets cruise lines won't tell you . Things like drinks, shore excursions, gratuities, spa treatments, specialty dining, airfare, photos, taxes and port fees aren't included and can add up quickly.
Finally, keep in mind that the best deals will always be for an inside cabin, which means you won't have a porthole (let alone a balcony) for natural light. The good news? You'll sleep like a baby in total darkness, especially during an afternoon nap.

When is the cheapest time to book a cruise?
It's important to pay attention to the cheapest times to book a cruise if you want to save even more. Wave season, which is from January to March, is a promotional time of year when cruise lines run their most competitive sales. These sales are designed to encourage bookings for later in the year. You can also keep an eye on sites like MSC's Cruise Deals to find great prices.
There are great deals at other times of the year too. Generally speaking, the further in advance you book, the better prices you'll find. But the opposite is also true, because cruise lines will happily sell unused inventory at a significantly reduced rate in the form of last-minute deals. You'll need a flexible schedule to pull this off, and you may find airfare is too costly at that point.
Beyond wave season, planning far in advance or nabbing last-minute cruise deals, it's also wise to consider booking your cruises for the off-season. For instance, for the Caribbean and Mexico, that would mean summer sailings or during shoulder season (the month before and after high season—for example, in the case of Alaska, this would be in May or September). Just know that you are taking a bit of a risk with the weather during these off-peak times.

MSC Cruises offers sailings out of the U.S. (New York, Miami and Orlando) to the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Bermuda, New England and Canada. It also offers sailings to Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, Egypt, Dubai, South Africa and more.

Cost: Hundreds of sailings on Princess are priced under $100 per day; 60 sailings under $60 per day.
Specials to watch for: Princess regularly offers promotions, such as a 40% savings and low $100 deposit specials.
Other savings to consider: Upgrade to the Princess Plus or Princess Premier packages, which roll in the price of extras like Wi-Fi, drinks, gratuities and more for a savings of up to 66% vs. purchasing them separately.
Affordable cruises: Everyone dreams of booking the best Alaska cruise , and we've seen 7-night Alaska cruises for as low as $349 per person.

MSC Cruises Drink & Bar Menus With PriceS – UPDATED
Last Updated on April 2, 2024
We spent a lot of time on a recent voyage with MSC Cruises trying to decipher the MSC drink menus and drink packages. We are posting the entire range of MSC drink menus to accompany the information recently published comparing the drink packages. These menus will also help people with the MSC Easy drink package better understand what’s included!
MSC Cruises Gratuities on Bar / Drink Purchases
Onboard bar purchases will incur gratuities, automatically added to all purchases : 15% gratuities on European, Emirates, South Caribbean, Red Sea, South America (Brazil and Argentina), and Far East itineraries, and 18% gratuities on North America itineraries. If you purchase a drink or beverage package, the price of the package includes the gratuities and you will not pay anything additional!

Brass Anchor Pub
The pub features quite a few beer options but pay attention to the prices if you are planning on using a drink package. Additionally, there are paid items to eat at certain times.

For people who have chosen the Easy Package or get it free with their cruise fare, there is a separate menu:
A word about the drinks on MSC Cruises
If you plan on enjoying your cruise without purchasing a drink package, you’ll see by the above menus that the prices of drinks really aren’t terrible compared to other cruise lines. However, a drink package is now more commonly included as a perk or incentive when booking a cruise with MSC . Even if there is a slight upcharge for an included Easy Package for you’re next cruise, you’ll likely find that it’s well worth it given that it includes bottled water, sodas and specialty coffee which is uncommon with most cruise lines.

Hi Phil, yesterday I sent a small message about the MSC transfer between Milan Malpensa Airport and Genoa Port. A small modification: we should get from Milan to Genoa in the morning of June 22, not June 21, so I would like the information (timetable, etc.) by the 22 of June.Sorry for the modification. Thanks in advance for your reply: Agnes
Hi Agnes – I’m unfortunately not famliar with how MSC Handles busses or shuttles from the Milan airport 🙁 – but I do know the transport is usually only on the morning of the cruise for when they DO offer shuttles. If you’re arriving early, you’ll be on your own to get to Genoa and it’s a few hours by train. The trains are generally pretty reliable an on time, but give yourself plenty of room to work with. You can use Rome2Rio (link) and plan a route or hire a private car (expect to spend 200 euro to get there though!). Here’s a link to private services on Viator
Hi! We have a cabin (Seaside from Genoa – 7 nights) for 4 people: 2 adults, 2 children, we have Easy Package for all four people. By definition, children do not drink alcoholic beverages, but my question is, is ice cream(for the children) included in Easy Packae? Thanks in advance: Agnes
Hi Agnes, I think if you call MSC, they will downgrade the kids to a soft drink package and save you money. As for icecream, it was available at the outside cafe at no charge but it will not cover the specialty ice cream / Gelato at Philippe Maury & Venchi Chocolate
Does the prices in the drinks menu include the gratuity? Or we have to add the 18% to know the total price?
Lizette, If you don’t have a drink package, and you are purchasing the drinks one by one, then you’ll pay the gratuity on top of the price you’re seeing. I believe the gratuity has just increased to 18% from 15%
We are two people traveling on MSC Meraviglia. Looking at these prices (some of them equal to or better than any hotel or Pub), I don’t think we are going to spend $560 (2 non-alcoholic packages) on water, coffee, and sodas in our 10-day cruise.
I agree- The prices really aren’t bad compared to other cruise lines! The packages make the most sense when they’re included as a promotion in the base fare at a discounted rate. I have friends that recently did a 2 week cruise with MSC and the drink packages were as much as the cruise. They declined and ended up spending a fraction of what the drink package would have been. Definitely worth doing the math!
how can i find out what brands of scotch are included in the easy plus package
Hi Bill & Susan, You can see the main menu above (first menu) and page 7 has “whisky” …. which they’ve sort of put all scotch and whisky together.
Remember it’s anything up to $10 per drink, so there are quite a few basic options available.
It’s explained on another page here that the Easy Package includes drinks up to $7.50, but I don’t see these drinks listed in the menu provided above, only the $9 ones. Did I miss something? Or is it $7.50 plus a 20% gratuity so it is $9.00 as listed on the menu which also includes the tip.
Hi Cory – If you look at the menu at the top of this page – and flip to the first page of the menu, it has the drinks up to 7.50 which are included in the “easy” package. MSC Generally has a menu for drinks that are part of the “Easy Package” and not all have a price associated with them (They’re just included). The $7.50 amount has been established since they now allow you to get a drink that is more than the $7.50 limit by paying the difference. I hope that makes sense!
Thanks! Don’t know how I missed that. I did the calculation and for our group of mostly light or non-drinkers, the packages don’t make financial sense when everybody has to get the same package, especially when we are going to be in port during most days and will get paid drinks there.
Sure! If you’re light drinkers, MSC Often has a promo for Easy or Easy plus as part of a cruise fare. I find that is the best way to go when it’s available since it covers everything from premium coffee & bottled water, etc. Not sure if you saw our MSC Drink Calculator (here) . This might help as well!
I noticed one can order bottles of wine pre cruise to be delivered to your stateroom. The prices for which seemed reasonable at @$32. My question is can you get a bottle at a bar on board and take it to your room or would there be a corkage fee?
Hi Kim! If you get the bottles onboard where they are available, you’ll pay a gratuity but not a true “corkage” fee by just taking them back to your room. So Expect to pay whatever their automatic gratuity / service charge is – but nothing else.
Hi. Are these prices in australian dollars?
Hello! The prices are in US dollars unless otherwise noted (sometimes we post prices in Euro, but it’s clearly stated).
Your not in Alice Springs anymore, mate!
Are these also the same prices if you were to buy the drinks a la carte?
Hi Josh – Yes, this is the ship-wide price list even if you’re paying for the drinks 1 at a time. For package customers, it’s a reference as to what the package will cover more than anything.

Throughout my 7-night cruise on Celebrity Ascent, I spent around $4,600 on everything from the cruise fare to plane tickets, shore excursions, specialty dining, and other onboard expenses. Between the two of us, we spent $3,660 on our 5-night Celebrity Reflection cruise, or roughly $1,830 per person.
