Tom Cruise to Star in Untitled Song-and-Dance Musical

The action star is reportedly writing the script

Tom Cruise is retiring his airplane for the power of song. The action movie legend is teaming up with producer Christopher McQuarrie for an original song and dance-style musical, Deadline reports.

Although — especially in the shadow of  Top Gun: Maverick — it’s hard to imagine Cruise doing much else on screen besides his own stunts, he  did  flaunt his pipes for Adam Shankman’s 2012 jukebox musical comedy  Rock of Ages.  Evidently, he’s been wanting to take on another musical for a while now, with plans to dance this go around and write the script alongside McQuarrie.

The as-yet-unnamed musical is just one of many movies Cruise and McQuarrie have coming down the pipeline. To the surprise of no one, they’re also working on another original action film with “franchise potential,” and they also have plans to bring back Les Grossman — Cruise’s hot-blooded studio executive in Tropic Thunder —  although it’s unclear whether they’d use him as the central character, or once again as a supporting character.

Lastly, Cruise and McQuarrie also still have plans to collaborate on a movie that’ll literally be filmed in space , thanks to a little help from NASA, Elon Musk’s SpaceX, and a price tag of $200 million. COVID has pushed off that project for quite a while now, but with a Russian film studio cooking up a similar project of their own, we might soon see yet another space race .

But back here on Earth, this musical could be Cruise’s great fuck-you to former boxer Mickey Rourke, who recently slammed the former for “doing the same effing part for 35 years.” Either way, it doesn’t appear that the newly-60-year-old Cruise has plans to retire any time soon.

EXCLUSIVE : As Top Gun: Maverick passed $1.3 billion to climb to 13th place on the all time worldwide gross list, star Tom Cruise and producer Christopher McQuarrie are in the early stages of setting up three very different projects. They are still in the thick of Mission: Impossible 8 — Cruise was recently photographed in the UK’s Lake District practicing what appears to be his next death defying stunt, something called ‘speed flying’ — sources said that Cruise and McQuarrie are hatching three new film projects. One is an original song and dance-style musical they’ll craft as a star vehicle for Cruise. They are also setting up another original action film with franchise potential, and they are also fixated on Les Grossman . The latter is the gruff, dance-happy studio executive Cruise played in cameo for Tropic Thunder . It’s unclear if they will create a whole movie around Grossman, or borrow him for inclusion in either of the other vehicles.

Cruise has long been interested in doing a musical. He learned to sing like a rock star for Rock of Ages , and would dance as well, with all three of these scripts to be written by McQuarrie in collaboration with Cruise.

Also looming large is the untitled film that Cruise intends to make with director Doug Liman and McQuarrie producing. You know, the one they’ll shoot in outer space, with NASA and Elon Musk’s SpaceX. Since Deadline broke the story about this plan, Universal signed on to be the studio. As Deadline subsequently reported, they’ve aligned with SEE-1, film producer duo Elena and Dmitry Lesnevsky’s newly-launched Space Entertainment Enterprise (S.E.E.) that will dock with Axiom’s world-first commercial space station Axiom Station, which is connected to the International Space Station (ISS). That one might well come next.

So much for the notion of Cruise slowing down at age 60. If you’ve forgotten his floor moves as Grossman, here’s a reminder:

Tom Cruise Runs Out Of ‘Mission Impossible’ Stunt Ideas, Runs Off To Star In A Musical

Tom Cruise’s film Top Gun: Maverick may be smashing box office records , but the actor’s not celebrating. He’s instead preparing to star in an upcoming musical film…

Known for performing death-defying stunts himself , Tom Cruise is going to once again step out of his comfort zone for a film. This time round though it won’t be scaling the tallest building in the world or subjecting himself to intense G-forces ; it’ll be singing and dancing.

According to Deadline , Cruise is once again working with Christopher McQuarrie – who’s directed Cruise in a few Mission: Impossible films and produced Cruise’s latest film, Top Gun: Maverick – and the two are developing three new films together; one of which will be an original song and dance-style musical.

Cruise has been involved with a musical before – he played a supporting character (a rock star named Stacee Jaxx) in the 2012 film, Rock of Ages . Cruise actually learnt how to sing for Rock of Ages but Cruise only performed a few songs and was never required to dance.

Whereas Cruise will star as the leading man in this new musical film and will have to sing and dance in a traditional musical style. Currently, the musical is in the very early stages of production so Cruise will have a long time to prepare…

Although we have to be honest, it’s hard to imagine such an iconic action star suddenly performing like Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire or Hugh Jackman but hey, we know that Cruise is dedicated. The man trained insanely hard to be able to hold his breath for six minutes just so he could perform an underwater stunt for one film scene, so we’re sure Cruise will put his all into his singing and dancing training.

The other two projects Cruise and McQuarrie are developing include an original action film that they’re hoping will kick off a franchise à la Mission: Impossible and a film involving Les Grossman. If you’re not sure what or who Les Grossman is, he’s a character Cruise played briefly in the 2008 film Tropic Thunder .

At this stage, it’s unclear if Cruise and McQuarrie are wanting to make a spinoff film where Les Grossman is the main character or a Tropic Thunder sequel where Cruise can just cameo as the character once again. Either way, we’re excited, as we think Les Grossman is one of the best performances of Cruise’s career.

Tom Cruise Is Planning to Sing and Dance in an Original Movie Musical

He is also keen to revive his 'Tropic Thunder' character Les Grossman.

At the top of the list is an "original song and dance-style musical" which they will write as a starring vehicle for Cruise. While audiences might associate Cruise primarily with dramatic action roles, he has sang on-screen before. And no, that's not a reference to the terrible lullaby scene from the middling War of the Worlds remake. He was critically lauded for his pipes in the 2012 adaptation of the Broadway show Rock of Ages , in which he played a washed-up musician and performed impressive renditions of some hair rock anthems, including "Pour Some Sugar on Me" by Def Leppard and "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi.

No plot details have been announced about this new musical, although given Cruise's propensity for throwing himself into life-threatening stuntwork, it's likely he will train like a professional tap-dancer to get the moves right.

And speaking of stunts, another one of Cruise and McQuarrie's pending projects is the eighth Mission: Impossible movie, which will see Cruise "speed flying." They're also keen to create a brand new action franchise together. Most bafflingly though, they are reportedly excited about the prospect of bringing back Les Grossman, Cruise's scene-stealing character from the 2008 comedy Tropic Thunder .

Cruise was last seen in a musical as part of the cast of the 2012 film adaptation of Rock of Ages.

Movie star Tom Cruise is planning to hit the big screen in an old-fashioned musical sometime in the near future.

According to Deadline , Cruise and Top Gun: Maverick producer Christopher McQuarrie are currently plotting three new film projects, one being "an original song and dance-style musical." The film will be crafted as a star vehicle for Cruise.

The scripts for all of the upcoming projects are set to be penned by McQuarrie in collaboration with Cruise

The film wouldn't be Cruise's first foray into the movie musical. The star previously belted out Bon Jovi as rock star, Stacee Jaxx, in the film adaptation of Rock of Ages.

Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie are planning a solid trio of follow-ups after they complete on Mission: Impossible 8 , including the movie-musical Cruise has long craved, a new action franchise starter, and… something centered on loud-mouth Tropic Thunder fat cat Les Grossman.

For those not in the know: the Oscar-winning McQuarrie has been a long-standing staple in Cruise's later-stage movie career, directing him in Jack Reacher and all of the Mission: Impossible instalments past Rogue Nation . He also produced and contributed to the script for Top Gun: Maverick , which just cleared the box office gross accrued by Titanic over in the States, reaching over $1.3 billion worldwide.

According to Deadline , who broke the triptych of news bites yesterday afternoon, Tom Cruise has “long been interested in doing a musical,” pointing to his appearance in Rock of Ages — for which he practiced how to be, well, a rock star. (Not that it's much of a leap from the star status granted by Hollywood to that of the arena stage.) 

Whether or not it'll be a movie-musical follow-up to Top Gun: Maverick co-starring Lady Gaga , who performed the Berlin-esque anthem “Hold My Hand” for the high-flying action romp, is yet to be determined. But hey, if it's good enough for Joaquin .

Exciting, too, for the lifelong Cruise-heads of the world is the broiling return of Les “literally fuck your own face” Grossman to the silver screen. For the uninitiated, Grossman saw Cruise don a fat suit and a scruff of facial hair to portray a grotesque satirisation of hot-headed Hollywood producers. He's sweary, tempestuous, and loves a dad dance. Fans of the film have long awaited his reprisal, with critics pointing to the Weinstein-esque caricature as one of Tropic Thunder 's highlights.

Deadline says it's “unclear if they will create a whole movie around Grossman,” given his original appearance came by way of a fleeting cameo, “or borrow him for inclusion in either of the other vehicles." 

Which brings us, neatly, to the other-other project on the 60-year-old's slate. This is the one we're least sure about but feels the most up Tom Cruise's wheelhouse: an “original action film with franchise potential,” which sounds a lot like a spiritual successor to the Mission: Impossible series . Our money is on a Logan -esque revenge thriller with Cruise at the helm as a washed-up super-agent disillusioned by a dystopian future, called up to do one last job for the good of mankind. Yeah, something like that.

Oh, and Cruise is still planning to make a film in outer space with the help of NASA and Elon Musk's SpaceX, apparently. The retirement age is poised to go up, after all.

Tom Cruise Crashed The Lion King to Play Pumbaa

You’ve heard of Tom Cruise in a scuba suit . But nothing can prepare you for Tom Cruise in a Pumbaa suit. On February 23, audiences at The Lion King at the Hollywood Pantages Theater in Los Angeles were treated to a surprise couple of understudies, as James Corden and Cruise took the stage in full Julie Taymor puppet regalia to play Timon and Pumbaa, respectively. The two men, who don’t hear the word no nearly enough, sang “Hakuna Matata” and filmed it to be aired on The Last Last Late Late Show prime-time special as Corden’s final late-night bow.

These sorts of pop-up rodent musical performances are expected from Corden at this point; Angelenos stop at crosswalks in fear that he will pop up in a mouse costume and hump their side mirror at any moment. But this was Cruise’s musical-stage debut, and the show allowed people in the audience to film it, meaning you can watch him sing and dance in a warthog suit right now.

The Late Late Show With James Corden’ s official Instagram account posted a photo of the two of them in costume, so you can really make out Cruise in a big warthog mohawk and cloven-hoof Tabis and chaps up close. He and Corden are probably just blissed out on the power of musical theater, but their expressions match their puppets’, and their puppets look like they’ve just popped a couple of weed grubbies . The words “sleep paralysis demon” get thrown around a lot lately, but it really is giving “worries for the rest of your days.”

Audiences at the show were also treated to a curtain call when Cruise took off most of the warthog carcass but left on the padding, making him a dead ringer for Sam Smith at the Brit Awards.

The Last Last Late Late Show airs April 27 on CBS and Paramount Plus.

You’ve seen him dance in “Risky Business,” sing “Great Balls of Fire” in “Top Gun,” and command the stage in “Rock of Ages.” Now Tom Cruise is planning to do it all in a new movie musical with “Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning” writer-director Christopher McQuarrie. Deadline reports the creative pair are planning three new projects together, including an “original action film with franchise potential,” an original “song and dance-style musical” starring Cruise, and a possible revival of his “Tropic Thunder” character Les Grossman. All sound like a lot of fun, and the Syracuse-born actor can do anything he wants at this point after “Top Gun: Maverick” passed “Titanic” to become the seventh highest-grossing film in U.S. box office history.

2022 Emmys host

“Saturday Night Live” star Kenan Thompson will host the 2022 Emmy Awards, NBC announced Tuesday. The six-time Emmy-nominated actor, who also stars on “Kenan” and previously hosted the People’s Choice Awards and NHL Awards, said it’s “ridiculously exciting” to host the Emmys and that he “can’t wait to see the stars from my favorite shows.” The 74th Emmy Awards will air Monday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.

Live-action ‘Pac-Man’ movie

Variety reports a live-action “Pac-Man” movie is in the works through “Jane the Virgin” actor Justin Baldoni’s production company Wayfarer Studios. The classic video game about a yellow circle dodging ghosts and eating pellets has been a staple of pop culture since the 1980s, inspiring several animated TV shows, songs (remember “Pac-Man Fever?”) and more. Plot and cast details haven’t been announced, but word is the untitled film is based on a story by “Sonic the Hedgehog” producer Chuck Williams.

Os recém-completados 18 anos da jovem Suri Cruise tiraram do pai dela, o ator Tom Cruise, a obrigatoriedade do pagamento de uma pensão anual de US$ 400 mil (R$ 2 milhões).

A filha do astro da franquia ‘Missão: Impossível’ com a atriz Katie Holmes alcançou sua maioridade no último dia 18 de abril. Ela e o pai não mantém laços afetivos e estão há anos sem se ver.

O jornal britânico Daily Mirror publicou uma reportagem falando sobre o impacto da fé de Cruise na Cientologia para o fim do casamento do ator com Holmes. Os dois trocaram alianças em 2006 e anunciaram o divórcio em 2012.

O texto da publicação inglesa também falou sobre os acordos estipulados entre os dois na justiça, incluindo a guarda da filha deles.

Holmes ficou com a guarda primária de Suri, além da custódia e o direito a uma pensão anual de US$ 400 mil.

Também coube ao ator o pagamento de todos os gastos da ex com a filha - incluindo despesas médicas, com educação e segurança.

Quando a assinatura do divórcio foi anunciada, os dois artistas divulgaram um comunicado conjunto dizendo: “Estamos comprometidos em trabalhar juntos como pais para realizar o que é do melhor interesse de nossa filha Suri. Queremos manter a privacidade dos assuntos que afetam nossa família e expressar nosso respeito pelo compromisso mútuo com cada uma de nossas respectivas crenças e apoiar o papel um do outro como pais”.

Segundo a reportagem do Daily Mirror, o início do fim do casamento de Holmes com Cruise foi a decisão do ator de abrir a casa deles para membros da Cientologia que poderiam ajudá-los na administração do imóvel e da rotina dos dois.

A atriz teria ficado temerária que os convidados do marido acabassem jogando a filha contra ela.

Além de Suri, Cruise também é pai de Isabella (31 anos) e Connor (29 anos), adotados por ele e pela atriz Nicole Kidman quando os dois eram casados, entre 1990 e 2001.

Recentemente a imprensa internacional noticiou a decisão de Suri fazer uso de outro sobrenome de batismo de sua mãe, Noelle, em sua vida profissional. Também aspirante a atriz, ela foi apresentada como Suri Noelle nos créditos do musical'Head Over Heels', em Nova York .

Katie Holmes assistiu ao espetáculo na companhia de seus pais, Martin e Kathleen.

Con la vuelta, este viernes, de la recordada puesta de roberto oswald al teatro colón, la magia de la relación entre calaf y la princesa turandot tendrá un nuevo capítulo; el cine, la publicidad y la tv supieron sacar provecho del genio de puccini, que en solo tres minutos supo definir la victoria del amor.

Desde este viernes, los amantes de la ópera tienen una cita obligada. Vuelve Turandot al Colón y, más allá de las infinitas razones que moverán a cada uno para hacerse presentes" class="com-link"> Vuelve Turandot al Colón y, más allá de las infinitas razones que moverán a cada uno para hacerse presentes y ver, una vez más, la última ópera de Giacomo Puccini, todos y todas estarán aguardando que Calaf, en el comienzo del tercer acto, cante “Nessun dorma”, una de las arias más célebres de la historia de la ópera.

La acción transcurre en la imaginaria China milenaria ( estuvo prohibida en ese país hasta 1998 " class="com-link"> estuvo prohibida en ese país hasta 1998 ) . La princesa Turandot, terrorífica y maligna, en venganza porque una antepasada suya fue vilmente ultrajada, pone a prueba a todo aquel varón que, subyugado por su belleza, ose pretenderla. Le hace tres preguntas al enamorado y si no las responde correctamente, es decapitado. El príncipe Calaf, llegado de otros territorios y a quien nadie conoce, decide asumir el riesgo. En el segundo acto, contesta uno a uno los tres acertijos que le plantea Turandot. El reglamento de este tan peculiar concurso de preguntas y respuesta establece que ella, perdidosa, deberá entregarse a él.

Pero Calaf, solo porque esto es una ópera (una bellísima ópera, una auténtica obra maestra, ciertamente), decide darle una oportunidad. Si antes del amanecer del día siguiente ella averigua cuál es su nombre, la victoria será de ella. Turandot, haciendo gala de su poder y su crueldad, ordena que nadie duerma y que sus tropas trabajen toda la noche hasta averiguar, aplicando las peores metodologías, cómo se llama ese desconocido. Y en el comienzo del tercer acto, Calaf canta “Nessun dorma”, cuya traducción, unánimemente aceptada, es “que nadie duerma” . Para conocerla o para recordarla, quién si no, Luciano Pavarotti. Así la cantó en París, en 1998, en uno de aquellos multitudinarios conciertos públicos que generaba el gran tenor italiano. Junto a él, la Orquesta de París, dirigida por James Levine.

Tranquilo y seguro de su victoria, Calaf espera, ansioso, que la noche pase para poseer a Turandot. En el final del aria, para reforzar esa sensación de triunfo, concluye entonando un extenso La agudo impactante. Puccini, más allá de escribir una melodía sin coloraturas o complicaciones técnicas de virtuosismo de ningún tipo, remata con un ascenso triunfal de la orquesta. De principio a fin, ese momento de ansiedad y victoria dura unos tres minutos. Puccini falleció sin concluir la ópera y, por lo tanto, no supo nada de la recepción clamorosa que habría de tener el estreno de Turandot y su eterna permanencia en los teatros líricos de todo el mundo. Y tampoco supo nada de lo que acontecería con el aria de Calaf.

En los últimos cien años, ha sido cantada y registrada por absolutamente todos los grandes tenores líricos y dramáticos. Los fanáticos de la ópera tienen sus interpretaciones favoritas y como la subjetividad es imbatible, todos tienen razón. Pero, seguramente, ni en sus más encendidas imaginaciones, Puccini habría de suponer que “Nessun dorma” tendría una vida fecunda por fuera de la ópera. Por su melodía ondulada y bella y por ser un auténtico himno de victoria, el aria devendría en un verdadero hit musical en películas, recitales de música popular, publicidades y hasta en eventos deportivos, elevándola a un parnaso musical al que ninguna aria ha podido acceder desde entonces. Lo que continuará, sin ninguna cronología y sin juicios de valor, será un paseo para escuchar los sonidos de “Nessun dorma” en muy variados ámbitos. En el comienzo, el cine.

El aria aparece en una docena de películas. En Misión imposible: nación secreta (Christopher McQuarrie, 2015), mientras Calaf la canta en una representación operística, tienen lugar las típicas escenas de violencia propias de esta saga. Después de reyertas, caídas al vacío y armas por doquier, entre el Ethan Hunt de Tom Cruise, la Ilsa Faust de Rebecca Ferguson y varios villanos, el primero empuña la primera y única flauta travesera con mira telescópica de la historia y, mientras suena el La agudo final del tenor, con ella dispara y mata al personaje que disfrutaba de Turandot sentado en un palco.

En El espejo tiene dos caras (Barbra Streisand, 1996), tiene pobre vida y mal destino el platónico y asexuado matrimonio de Rose Morgan (Streisand) y Gregory Larkin (Jeff Bridges). Comedia romántica, al fin de cuentas, en la escena final, Rose y Morgan encuentran el camino para superar las dificultades. Mientras se dan el beso de la felicidad, desde un edificio cercano, bajan los sonidos de “Nessun dorma”. Curiosos, los enamorados buscan de dónde viene esa música y encuentran una ventana donde se ve a un vecino en musculosa y piyama que suma su propia voz a la de Pavarotti cuyo LP, vertical y bien paradito, es captado por la cámara, para que no queden dudas de quién es el tenor.

Mar adentro (Alejandro Amenábar, 2004) no es violenta ni amorosa sino el testimonio doloroso de la verdadera historia de Ramón Sampedro (Javier Bardem), un tetrapléjico que, tras treinta años de parálisis desea la eutanasia, práctica prohibida en España. En el transcurso de la película, Ramón sueña con una libertad y unas posibilidades motrices que no tiene mientras se escucha la voz de John Oakman entonando “Nessun dorma”. Una escena bellísima y conmovedora en la que, paradójicamente no hay victorias ni triunfos de ningún tipo.

En otros terrenos, “Nessun dorma” ha sido utilizada para promocionar diferentes tipos de productos. Estuvo en publicidades de motosierras alemanas, de viajes aéreos y fue pedaleada por ciclistas que recordaban al público los horarios de las transmisiones televisivas del Giro d’Italia. Por estas latitudes, fue utilizada para vender casi todo, de vehículos a comestibles. En 1993, Fiat lanzó en la Argentina (y luego en Chile) su nuevo modelo Tempra. Al son de la voz de José Carreras, el auto atravesaba túneles, surcaba rutas, hacia flamear un violín, rompía candados y avanzaba raudo, firme y, por supuesto, victorioso hacia un destino de gloria.

Más allá de ser bella y concluir con un final optimista, en esta aria se habla de lo que sucederá en el amanecer. Por lo tanto, una agencia de publicidad, en 2015, decidió que “Nessun dorma” era ideal para acompañar el despertar de una familia que tiene como primer y principal objetivo desayunar con una buena mermelada. Sobre el fondo de una ciudad que despierta, detrás de un gallo de pulmones generosos y que abre su pico cual tenor lírico, está el canto de Paul Potts.

Los músicos populares, y no solo varones, en parte estimulados por el movimiento que, en los 90, encabezaron los tres tenores (Plácido Domingo, Carreras y Pavarotti) en aquellos recitales en estadios y espacios abiertos, también se aventuraron con “Nessun dorma”. De todos ellos, podemos recordar la presentación de Aretha Franklin en la ocasión de la ceremonia de entrega de los premios Grammy, en 1998. En reemplazo de Pavarotti, la reina del soul hizo su propia versión. Con un italiano poco feliz entremezclado con versos en inglés y con esa voz profunda y maravillosa, Aretha se tomó infinitas licencias de tempo y agregó ornamentaciones de su propia cosecha, una particularmente muy lograda sobre el final de la orquesta.

Por último, en el lugar menos pensado, ahí también está “Nessun dorma”. Desde 2011, el Real Madrid, cuando juega de local, en el Santiago Bernabéu, infaltable, ofrece un video por las pantallas electrónicas del estadio en las que se muestran las glorias del equipo, que no son precisamente pocas. Curiosamente, no es Domingo quien canta, un reconocido hincha madridista, sino Pavarotti.

A partir del viernes, y en las otras ocho funciones que se ofrecerán en el Teatro Colón –todas con entradas agotadas, y transmisión online–, en las voces de Marcelo Puente o de Jorge Puerta, Calaf volverá una y otra vez a confiar en que su secreto no será develado y que la victoria será suya cuando salga el sol. Liù quedará en el camino, pero, en el final, Calaf y Turandot celebrarán su amor, seguramente acompañados por abundantes aplausos y ovaciones.

Tom Cruise Celebrates 38 Years Since the Original Top Gun : 'It's Incredible to Look Back'

'Top Gun' producer Jerry Bruckheimer told PEOPLE in March that Tom Cruise has been pitched an idea for a third 'Top Gun' movie that "he liked"

Tom Cruise is celebrating nearly four decades of taking to the skies.

On May 13, the actor-producer, 61, shared photos from the set of 1986's original Top Gun on Instagram in honor of the film's 38th anniversary.

The photos show behind-the-scenes pictures of him on set with the movie's director Tony Scott , who died in 2012 at 68, as well as a photo of him sitting with the film's cast in its air-hangar-turned-classroom set.

One throwback photo shows the actor smiling during a conversation with producer Jerry Bruckheimer . Another shows Cruise filming 2022's Top Gun: Maverick as he stares at the famous still of him and costar Val Kilmer shaking hands at the end of the original movie.

"It’s incredible to look back on the thirty-eight years of Top Gun ," he wrote in a caption. "To the fans who have been with us since the start, there wouldn’t be a Top Gun Day without you."

Cruise's original Top Gun movie was an immediate hit when it hit theaters May 16, 1986. The movie follows his character Pete "Maverick" Mitchell as he attends the U.S. Navy's Fighter Weapons School, better known as Top Gun. The movie costarred Anthony Edwards, Kelly McGillis and Kilmer, 64, as Maverick's chief rival and eventual ally Tom "Iceman" Kazansky."

Top Gun was the highest-grossing film at the domestic box office that year. It won one Academy Award , for Best Original Song, at the 59th Oscars in 1987, among four total nominations.

Decades later, Cruise regrouped with producer Bruckheimer, 80, to make a sequel, Top Gun: Maverick , which similarly captured audiences' imaginations as the highest-grossing movie of 2022 domestically and made $1.5 billion worldwide. The sequel sees Maverick return to Top Gun to train a new generation of pilots — including characters portrayed by Miles Teller and Glen Powell , among others — for new missions with the Navy.

Many have speculated about the franchise's future given the smash success of Maverick . The Hollywood Reporter reported in January that a third Top Gun movie was in development . In March, producer Bruckheimer told PEOPLE he is working on putting a new entry together.

" We pitched Tom a story he liked . But he's a very in-demand actor and he's got a lot of movies lined up, so we have to wait and see," he said.

She's very, very talented. She said she would do it and she recorded it, and I let her do her thing. That's the way I direct in general: It's like, 'This is what I think we all want — go do your thing,'" Katie said about Suri's talent.

In addition to Alone Together , Suri also lent her voice to her mother's 2023 film Rare Objects. Additionally, according to her IMDb page, she made an uncredited appearance in her father's 2013 film Oblivion .

Tom was recently seen relaxing at Formentor Beach in Mallorca, Spain, on May 11 and 12, displaying his impressive physique . The 61-year-old Mission: Impossible star was photographed taking a dip in the ocean with filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu, in photos obtained by Page Six . There has been no indication that Tom attended his daughter's musical.
