This means that in the unlikely event that we or any of your travel providers go bust, you'll be able to continue with your holiday or a suitable alternative holiday (at no extra cost) or receive a refund of the amount paid to us.

How does it work? All you need to do to become ATOL protected is book a flight or flight inclusive Holiday with us - it really is that simple!

What do I get? You will receive an official certificate! Once you've paid pr made a deposit, we'll issue your Flight Plus ATOL certificate. Make sure you take this with you when you travel, just in case.

What is ABTA? ABTA - The Travel Association is a trusted travel brand that has been operating for over 65 years, representing travel companies and tour operators, as well as offering both legal and financial support to the travelling public.

ABTA offers protection for package holidays that don't include air travel but may include rail, cruise or self-drive elements, for instance. If your travel company fails and your holiday can no longer go ahead, you will be entitled to a refund if you're yet to travel. What is the difference between ATOL & ABTA? ATOL and ABTA both offer protection schemes for the travelling public. The main difference between the two is what is included in that protection. ABTA covers package holidays that include rail, cruise or self-drive transport but does not offer protection for flight-based packages. ABTA also provides advice for people who believe their holiday package has been mis-sold and are seeking compensation.

ATOL covers package holidays that include flights- for example, a flight and accommodation package. If your travel company ceases trading, you will be entitled to a refund if you have not yet travelled. If you are on holiday at the time, you will be flown home with repatriation flights through ATOL. However, ATOL does not cover flights which have been purchased directly through the airline.

Another difference between the two is that ATOL is a compulsory licensing system run by the government, while ABTA is a voluntary scheme that travel companies can sign up to if they meet the requirements.

The Northern Belle was voted one of world’s top ten train journeys, and Britain’s most luxurious train by the prestigious Condé Naste Traveler magazine in 2022. Often referred to as the Orient Express of the UK, you will be transported to the golden age of travel when you step onboard. From the sumptuously furnished carriages to the delicious cuisine and extensive wine list, attentive service and nostalgic ambience, a day on the Northern Belle will create memories of a lifetime.

However with day prices starting at around £400 a person it is far from a bargain. So, what is it really like to ride Britain’s most luxurious train, the Northern Belle?

We are constantly striving to improve the experience, make special memories for our passengers and operate the most luxurious train ’. Sounds simple in practice but can you really deliver value for money when a day out for two leaves little change from £1,000?

Northern Belle day trips

The company offers a variety of day trips around the UK from afternoon teas to indulgent lunches and themed celebrations. We opted for the Spirit of Travel lunch from Crewe which departs at 11.30am and returns around 18.00. Each journey has multiple pick-up points, after which the train takes passengers on a scenic tour of the nearby countryside.

On the trip from Crewe, passengers can also board in Warrington or Liverpool. The train then follows a scenic route through the Yorkshire Dales to Carnforth. From there it heads south back to Crewe, and on to Warrington and Liverpool. You receive confirmation of your exact timings a few days in advance of your trip and on the day you receive a bespoke route map.

Northern Belle experience

The train chugs into the station at the appointed time. With swift efficiency staff descend from the carriages, roll out red carpets and line up in smart uniforms by the entrance to each carriage.

Your ticket will indicate your carriage and seat numbers so when the train pulls into the station keep an eye on the cars to identify yours. Hand painted burgundy and cream livery adorns each carriage with the name of the car in bold letters. Immaculately dressed stewards greet you on the red carpet and offer to take photos as you board. Inside, carriages combine luxurious veneered panels, hand painted motifs, deep wool Axminster carpets, and elegant furnishings. Your stewards will show you to your seat and offer you a glass of champagne whilst you feast your eyes on the beautifully laid dinner tables set for your seven-course lunch.

The Alnwick carriage is owned by the Duke of Northumberland and I am sure you will agree is magnificent.

Old fashioned elegance

As the carriage attendants make their way through the car they ask guests whether they are celebrating a special occasion. It’s fascinating to earwig on some of the stories. One lady is celebrating her 80 th birthday whilst another couple are enjoying a Christmas present from their sons.

We came to celebrate our 15 th wedding anniversary and clearly all these little stories are noted because some time later one of the Northern Belle staff delivers a wedding anniversary card to our table with a thoughtful message inside. It’s a lovely touch and entirely unexpected.

What is included in the day

In the price of your Spirit of Lunch travel ticket you receive

A circular train journey on the Northern Belle luxury train
A champagne reception with pretty canapés and caviar blinis
Port to accompany your selection of cheese
A delicious dessert and selection of petits fours
A bottle of wine per couple. Your ticket includes any bottle up to £28.50 but you can pay to upgrade if you prefer something else.
Entertainment including a table magician and musicians who tailor their song selection to the guests’ circumstances
After dinner tea or coffee
A gift on departure

A word on seating arrangements. The carriages host a table of four on one side and tables of two on the other side. You can opt for a table of four and be paired with another couple or pay extra for a two seater table. We didn’t see any mixed tables so if you opt for a four you might get lucky and be alone.

However, we really enjoyed chatting to the ladies on the table opposite so whichever option you go for you are likely to have some social interactions with other passengers.

Schedule onboard

The schedules will vary depending on the trip you opt for but will loosely follow this outline:

Champagne and canapés on arrival
Your carriage staff introduce themselves and take your drinks order
Caviar canapé served shortly after boarding
Meal service – it takes most of the journey to complete the food service in a relaxed atmosphere.
Your entertainers will pass through the carriage between courses.

The onboard menu is created by head chef Matthew Green who uses seasonal, local produce throughout the journeys. This is the wonderful meal that our Spirit of Lunch trip included.

Ballotine of salmon with beetroot gravalax, dill crème fraiche, crispy capers, cucumber and fennel salad, lemon and mustard dressing and rye bread croute. Doesn’t it look stunning?

Slow cooked British beef feather blade with dauphinoise potatoes, slow cooked carrot, pod vegetables, and forestiere red wine gravy. How juicy is that?!

The food was exquisite, beautifully presented and delicious to eat. It really was a magnificent seduction of our taste buds.

Entertainment

Throughout dinner, musicians stroll through the carriages serenading guests with songs of their choice. Dressed in stylish evening wear, they chat comfortably with guests, enquiring about celebrations and promptly picking out songs based on your taste. As we are not romantic types, they opt for an uplifting rendition of a song for us that has everyone singing along.

They make two walk throughs so each group has the chance to enjoy two personal songs.

At some point, you will also enjoy a brief magic show from the onboard magician. Small balls magically transform into golf balls or disappear entirely as he deftly confuddles onboard guests. The wine might also be contributing by this stage.

I expect the gift to be a postcard or a gift voucher towards another trip so it is a wonderful surprise to receive an incredibly elegant pen embossed with Northern Belle. Displayed in a plush silk bedded box, it was a lovely end to an incredible day.

Despite the hefty price tag I absolutely believe that the Northern Belle delivers. From the old school elegance onboard to the fine dining and attentive staff, it truly is a beautiful day out. Sipping on wine whilst watching the British countryside slip by is a truly wonderful way to celebrate a special occasion.

The iconic Moscow Kremlin , also known as the Kremlin museum complex, sits on Borovitsky Hill, rising above the Moscow River. It is a fortified complex in the center of the city, overlooking several iconic buildings in the Red Square!

It’s the best known of the Russian Kremlins – citadels or fortress’ protecting and dominating a city. During the early decades of the Soviet era, the Kremlin was a private enclave where the state’s governing elite lived and worked.

The Kremlin is outlined by an irregularly shaped triangular wall that encloses an area of 68 acres! The existing walls and towers were built from 1485 to 1495. Inside the Kremlin museum complex, there are five palaces, four cathedrals, and the enclosing Kremlin Wall with Kremlin towers.

The Armoury Chamber is a part of the Grand Kremlin Palace’s complex and is one of the oldest museums of Moscow, established in 1851. It showcases Russian history and displays many cherished relics. Definitely make sure to check out this museum while you’re here!

The churches inside the Moscow Kremlin are the Cathedral of the Dormition, Church of the Archangel, Church of the Annunciation, and the bell tower of Ivan Veliki (a church tower).

The five-domed Cathedral of the Dormition is considered the most famous. It was built from 1475–1479 by an Italian architect and has served as a wedding and coronation place for great princes, tsars, and emperors of Russia. Church services are given in the Kremlin’s numerous cathedrals on a regular basis.

Day 1 / Stop 3 – Lenin’s Mausoleum

Lenin’s Mausoleum, also known as Lenin’s Tomb, is the modernist mausoleum for the revolutionary leader Vladimir Lenin. It’s located within the Red Square and serves as the resting place for the Soviet leader! His preserved body has been on public display since shortly after his death in 1924.

It’s located just a few steps away from the Kremlin Wall and is one of the most controversial yet popular Moscow attractions!

Admission is free for everyone, you’ll only need to pay if you need to check a bag. Before visitors are allowed to enter the mausoleum, they have to go through a metal detector first. No metal objects, liquids, or large bags are allowed in the mausoleum!

Expect a line to enter the building, and while you’re inside the building, you’ll be constantly moving in line with other visitors. This means you won’t be able to spend as long as you’d like viewing the mausoleum, but you’ll still be able to get a good look. Pictures and filming while inside the building are strictly prohibited, and security guards will stop you if they see you breaking this rule.

The mausoleum is only open on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday – unless it’s a public holiday or a day scheduled for maintenance. The hours it’s open for each day are limited, make sure to check online before you visit to make sure you can fit this into your Moscow itinerary for that day!

Insider Tip: The Lenin’s Museum is there for people to pay their respect; remember to keep silent and move along quickly, it’s not intended for people to congregate around. Also, men are not allowed to wear hats and everyone must take their hands out of their pockets when inside the building.

Located in the Red Square, the ornate 16th-century St. Basil’s Cathedral is probably the building you picture when you think of Moscow’s unique architecture. Its colorful onion-shaped domes tower over the Moscow skyline!

The cathedral was built from 1555-1561 by order of Tsar Ivan the Terrible. It was designed with an iconic onion dome facade and enchanting colors that captivate all who see it. Fun fact: If you’re wondering why Russian churches have onion domes, they are popularly believed to symbolize burning candles!

This iconic cathedral has become a symbol of Russia due to its distinguishing architecture and prominent position inside the Red Square. It’s one of the most beautiful, wonderful, and mesmerizing historical cathedrals in the world!

The interior of the church surprises most people when they visit. In contrast to the large exterior, the inside is not so much one large area, but rather a collection of smaller areas, with many corridors and small rooms. There are 9 small chapels and one mausoleum grouped around a central tower.

Visiting the inside is like walking through a maze, there are even small signs all around the cathedral tracing where to walk, and pointing you in the right direction! The walls are meticulously decorated and painted with intricate floral designs and religious themes.

The church rarely holds service and is instead a museum open for the public to visit.

Insider Tip: During the summer months the line to go inside the cathedral can get quite long! Make sure to arrive early or reserve your tickets online to guarantee quick access into the cathedral!

Day 1 / Stop 5 – GUM Department Store

Why it’s awesome: This is Russia’s most famous shopping mall! It’s designed with elegant and opulent architecture and provides a real sense of nostalgia!

Food nearby: Stolovaya 57 is a cafeteria-style restaurant with a variety of inexpensive Russian cuisine menu items including soups, salads, meat dishes, and desserts. It’s also located inside the GUM department store, making it very easily accessible when you’re shopping!

The enormous GUM Department Store is located within the historic Red Square. It has a whimsical enchantment to it that sets it apart from your typical department store.

A massive domed glass ceiling lines the top of the building and fills the interior with natural sunlight. There are live plants and flowers placed throughout the mall that give the shopping complex a lively and cheerful feel! A playful fountain sits in the center, further adding to the malls inviting a sense of wonder and amusement!

The GUM department store opened on December 2, 1893. Today, it includes local and luxury stores, including Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Prada, and many more! There are numerous cafes, restaurants, and even a movie theater inside!

For a special treat, head into Gastronom 1. This 1950s-style shop sells gourmet food items, like wine, freshly-baked pastries, cheese, Russian chocolate, and of course, vodka! Also, be on the lookout for a bicycle pedaling ice cream truck with an employing selling ice cream!

The Novodevichy Convent is the best-known and most popular cloister of Moscow. The convent complex is contained within high walls, and there are many attractions this site is known for!

The six-pillared five-domed Smolensk Cathedral is the main attraction. It was built to resemble the Kremlin’s Assumption Cathedral and its facade boasts beautiful snowy white walls and a pristine golden onion dome as its centerpiece. It’s the oldest structure in the convent, built from 1524 -1525, and is situated in the center of the complex between the two entrance gates.

There are other churches inside the convent as well, all dating back from many centuries past. The convent is filled with an abundance of 16th and 17th-century religious artworks, including numerous large and extravagant frescos!

Just outside the convent’s grounds lies the Novodevichy Cemetery. Here, you can visit the graves of famous Russians, including esteemed authors, composers, and politicians. Probably the most intriguing gravestone belongs to Russian politician Nikita Khruschev!

The Novodevichy Convent is located near the Moscow River and offers a peaceful retreat from the busy city. In 2004, it was proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The convent remains remarkably well-preserved and is an outstanding example of Moscow Baroque architecture!

Insider Tip: To enter the cathedrals inside the complex, women are advised to cover their heads and shoulders, while men should wear long pants.

Day 2 / Stop 2 – Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure

Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure is a large green space in the heart of Moscow. The park opened in 1928, and it stretches along the scenic embankment of the Moskva River. It covers an area of 300-acres and offers a lovely contrast from the compact city center.

You’ll find all sorts of wonderful attractions, from boat rides to bike rentals to tennis courts and ping-pong tables, and much more! there are an open-air cinema and festive events and concerts scheduled in the summer months. A wide selection of free fitness classes is also offered on a regular basis, including jogging, roller skating, and dancing!

Although many of the options you’ll find here are more suited for outdoor leisure during the summer, you’ll also a selection of winter attractions, including one of Europe’s largest ice rinks for ice-skating!

Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure

If you’re trying to decide what to do in Moscow with kids, the park also offers several venues designed specifically for kids. Check out the year-round Green School which offers hands-on classes in gardening and art! You can also feed the squirrels and birds at the Golitsinsky Ponds!

The park is very well maintained and kept clean and the entrance is free of charge, although most individual attractions cost money. There is also Wi-Fi available throughout the park.

With so many attractions, you could easily spend all day here! If you’re only planning a 2 day itinerary in Moscow, make sure to plan your time accordingly and map out all the areas you want to see beforehand!

Day 2 / Stop 3 – The State Tretyakov Gallery

Why it’s awesome: The gallery’s collection consists entirely of Russian art made by Russian artists!

The State Tretyakov Gallery was founded in 1856 by influential merchant and collector Pavel Tretyakov. The gallery is a national treasury of Russian fine art and one of the most important museums in Russia!

It houses the world’s best collection of Russian art and contains more than 130, 000 paintings, sculptures, and graphics! These works have been created throughout the centuries by generations of Russia’s most talented artists!

The exhibits range from mysterious 12th-century images to politically charged canvases. The collection is rich and revealing and offers great insight into the history and attitudes of this long-suffering yet inspired people!

All pictures are also labeled in English. If you plan to take your time and see everything inside the museum it will take a good 3-4 hours, so make sure to plan your Moscow trip itinerary accordingly! Day 2 / Stop 4 – All-Russian Exhibition Center

The All-Russian Exhibition Center is a massive park that presents the glory of the Soviet era! It pays homage to the achievements of Soviet Russia with its many different sites found on the property.

The center was officially opened in 1939 to exhibit the achievements of the Soviet Union. It’s a huge complex of buildings and the largest exhibition center in Moscow. There are several exhibition halls dedicated to different achievements and every year there are more than one hundred and fifty specialized exhibitions!

The Peoples Friendship Fountain was constructed in 1954 and is a highlight of the park. The stunning gold fountain features 16 gilded statues of girls, each representing the former Soviet Union republics.

The Stone Flower Fountain was also built in 1954 and is worth checking out. The centerpiece of this large fountain is a flower carved from stones from the Ural Mountains! Along the side of the fountain are various bronze sculptures.

You will find many people zipping around on rollerblades and bicycles across the large area that the venue covers. It’s also home to amusement rides and carousels, making it the perfect place to stop with kids on your Moscow itinerary! Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and allow a few hours to explore all the areas that interest you!

The theater has been rebuilt and renovated several times during its long history. In 2011 it finished its most recent renovation after an extensive six-year restoration that started in 2005. The renovation included an improvement in acoustics and the restoration of the original Imperial decor.

The Bolshoi Theater has put on many of the world’s most famous ballet acts! Tchaikovsky’s ballet Swan Lake premiered at the theater in 1877 and other notable performances of the Bolshoi repertoire include Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker!

The Alexander Garden

The Alexander Garden was one of the first urban public parks in Moscow! The garden premiered in 1821 and was built to celebrate Russia’s victory over Napoleon’s forces in 1812!

The park is beautiful and well maintained with paths to walk on and benches to rest on. The park contains three separate gardens: the upper garden, middle garden, and lower garden.

Located in the upper garden, towards the main entrance to the park is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with its eternal flame. This monument was created in 1967 and contains the body of a soldier who fell during the Great Patriotic War!

The park stretches along all the length of the western Kremlin wall for about half a mile. Due to its central location in the city, it’ll be easily accessible when you’re out exploring The Red Square.

It provides a bit of relief from the city’s high-energy city streets. Bring a picnic lunch, go for a walk, or just sit and people watch, this is one of the best Moscow sites to wind-down and relax!

Ostankino Television Tower

Next to the Kremlin is the Izmailovo open-air market, which dates back to the 17th century! The market is connected to the Izmailovo Kremlin by a wooden bridge. Pick up all your Russian souvenirs here, including traditional handicrafts, paintings, books, retro toys, and Soviet memorabilia!

Whether you’re spending one day in Moscow, or more, safety is an important thing to keep in mind when traveling to a big city! Overall, Moscow is a very safe place to visit. However, it is always recommended that tourists take certain precautions when traveling to a new destination!

The police in Moscow is extremely effective at making the city a safe place to visit and do their best to patrol all of the top Moscow, Russia tourist attractions. However, tourists can still be a target for pickpockets and scammers.

Moscow has a huge flow of tourists, therefore there is a risk for pickpocketing. Simple precautions will help eliminate your chances of being robbed. Stay vigilant, keep your items close to you at all times, and don’t flash your valuables!

There's no faulting the scale of Reform UK's ambition - but just how much does this really matter?

Their proposed policies come with a spending tag of an eyewatering £141bn a year - some 30 times the size of Labour's plans, 10 times the amount of additional spending proposed by the Tories and more than three times the ambition of Liz Truss.

Energy companies would be partly nationalised in Reform's Britain, while they would somehow find 30,000 new permanent members of the armed forces and raise the starting rate of income tax to £20,000.

But there is a serious question over whether the 24-page contract is worth the paper it's written on.

This is no particular disrespect to Reform UK: This is the same issue facing the Greens, Lib Dems and even the Tories.

With little chance of Downing Street beckoning for their respective leaders, why spend so long on policy that will never be used?

Indeed Nigel Farage, the party's leader, is admirably candid - there is no expectation of a win next month, and therefore he claims these ideas are a blueprint for the 2029 election.

Farage is setting his sights on five years of Reform UK showing its mettle opposing both the expected Labour government and what Farage hopes is a hollowed-out Conservative Party.

That is the claim - at the moment.

But there are even more searching questions awaiting Farage - for now the tormentor in chief of the Tories - after 4 July.

Tomorrow there will be 16 more days to go until voters head to the polls to decide the UK's future.

Reform UK unveiled their sort-of manifesto today, which they're calling a "contract with the British people," while Labour and the Conservatives have launched theirs already and the SNP's is due on Wednesday.

Here's everything you may have missed today…

Our deputy political editor Sam Coates repeatedly asked Reform UK leader Nigel Farage whether he would join the Conservatives if he was elected - but Mr Farage refused to engage with the question;
In his analysis, Sam said the key question was whether Mr Farage could swap parties : "That is the question. Nigel Farage's silence on that answer was telling today."
It came after Reform UK launched its "contract with the British people", which includes freezing "all non-essential immigration" and a raft of tax cuts (use the tool below to swipe through all the pledges);
Speaking in Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales, Mr Farage said this general election campaign wasn't about winning but is the "first big push" towards the next contest;
Earlier he confirmed his ambitions to become prime minister at the next general election, which could be in 2029;
The party's deputy leader Dr David Bull was interviewed on our weeknight politics show Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge and told Sophy the party wants to encourage parents to stay at home to look after their children.
Earlier today, Defence Secretary Grant Shapps admitted it is unlikely the Tories will win the general election on 4 July - but insisted it remains a possibility;
He also warned a Labour government would be "very bad news", telling Sky News it would mean "higher taxes for everyone".
Rishi Sunak later insisted he is still "fighting hard for every vote";
Speaking from Centrica's Rough 47-3B gas rig in the North Sea, the prime minister insisted the Conservatives are "on the right track", but said he understands people's "frustrations" with his party.
Sir Keir Starmer has been campaigning in Hampshire, heading off concerns Reform UK could target Labour heartlands in Wales by insisting the general election is "a straight choice between Conservatives and Labour";
Rachel Reeves , the shadow chancellor, earlier told a group of business leaders a "pro-business" Labour would hold a global investment summit in the first 100 days of entering government;
Speaking to Sky News earlier, Labour frontbencher Jonathan Ashworth refused to explicitly say whether Labour would increase fuel duty or stamp duty, but ruled out council tax re-banding ".
John Swinney, Scotland's first minister, has stressed the need for a social tariff, whereby the SNP can "commit to people who are elderly or disable that they are free of the burden of energy costs in our society";
And the Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey was near Paignton in Devon, where he insisted Nigel Farage's party aren't making things harder for him when it comes to trying to win over Tory voters.

Premier League clubs could have to pay a 10% tax on the transfer of football players under plans being considered by Labour.

Sir Keir Starmer's party has pledged to bring forward football governance reforms that would prevent breakaways in the style of the ill-fated European Super League if Labour wins the general election.

On Monday, shadow sports secretary Thangam Debbonaire was asked if this would include reviving the transfer levy - something which was recommended in a 2021 fan-led review but not taken up by the Conservatives in their version of the bill.

Ms Debbonaire said she was "going to look at everything again" that was in the review.

Speaking from Bristol Rovers' football ground, she added: "A club like this, it's not the wealthiest club in the world, and it wants to be able to invest in infrastructure.

"It wants to be able to make sure that facilities are good for the future.

"That does take money, so I'm going to look at absolutely everything that might help increase the financial sustainability."

Nowhere is perfect, but let’s face it, Switzerland gets pretty darned close. The Bahamas

Eleuthera, however, is a bit tougher to get to, but is well worth the expense and effort if you're looking for vacation bliss. For upscale romance and the prettiest, most serene city beach in southwest Florida, come to Naples, the Gulf Coast's answer to Palm Beach. The soft white sand is backed only by narrow dunes and half-hidden mansions. Massachusetts

Martha's Vineyard remains untouched by the kind of rampant commercialism found on the mainland – there's not a single chain restaurant or cookie-cutter motel in sight. Sunny skies and consistently hot weather make July and August the best time for a traditional beach holiday with sunning, swimming and sand-digging. The tradeoff, of course, is that July and August are the months everyone goes to the Vineyard and it's likely to be jam-packed, so plan ahead.

Summertime buzzes with travelers when draws like the Great Lakes , charming islands and unspoiled wilderness are at their most accessible. North Carolina

The height of summer in North Carolina is beach time, and with 322 miles (518km) of ocean shoreline reaching from the Outer Banks in the north to the South Carolina border in the south (and 12,000 miles/19,000km of estuarine coastline along the way), North Carolina has plenty of beaches to choose from . Kure Beach has 6 miles (10km) of protected shoreline as well as lagoons teeming with wildlife that you can explore by renting a kayak or a stand-up paddleboard.

Celebrations, historic oban at leisure, friday 2nd august 2024, edinburgh, glasgow, your journey.

Your day will begin with a red carpet welcome at your departure station where our attentive Stewards will usher you aboard the Northern Belle luxury train for a journey to remember forever. Once you’ve been escorted to your plush seat, one of our liveried Stewards will carefully pour you a sparkling Mimosa cocktail as you study celebrated Head Chef Matthew Green’s sumptuous menu.

Ahead lies a journey back to the Golden Days of rail travel, a time when nothing was too good for the pampered passengers. Our Executive Head Chef and his team will be hard at work in the kitchen carriage preparing a sumptuous three-course brunch and six-course dinner, accompanied by our Sommelier’s choice of wine. Each course boasts the finest seasonal ingredients from local Scottish farms and fishermen, and all innovatively crafted in our recently refurbished kitchen carriage.

En route to Oban, we will be heading up part of the West Highland line with views over Loch Lomond, beautiful Glens and lush green forests, all whilst a delicious three-course brunch is served as the glorious Scottish countryside passes by. When we reach Crianlarich the line splits as we go west past Loch Awe and onwards to the coastal port of Oban.

On arrival, spend your day at leisure, Oban is a bustling port town with shops, cafes, bars and gift shops. Spend a few hours at leisure enjoying the fresh sea air and the best Scottish seafood around, you could enjoy a local whisky from the Oban distillery. Admire the Victorian architecture and watch the hustle and bustle of the port as the Calmac Ferries come and go with travellers.

After an incredible day, we rejoin the Northern Belle for a Champagne reception, before tucking into a sumptuous six-course dinner during the leisurely journey home.

Northern Belle has limited tables for two. We are happy to take a request, however this is not a guarantee and there is a chance that you may be sharing a table of four with another couple. Subject to availability you may guarantee a table for two by paying a supplement of £75 per passenger. When booking online if private tables of two are available you can select your preference, but you can select a shared table without a supplement subject to availability.

All of the Northern Belle carriages are vintage pullman style. Each row of seats is a table for two and across the aisle a table for four.

Yes. If notified at the time of booking, we will do our best to comply with any dietary requirements. These include Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten Free, Pescetarian and the exclusion of certain ingredients such as nuts, onions and dairy. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide meals requiring strict religious observance in preparation. Please order at least 14 days prior to travel to ensure we can order the supplies to the train whilst on tour. Please note that due to the small preparation areas on the train we cannot guarantee cross contamination within the kitchen and if you have severe allergic reactions then please call the reservations team to discuss. When you book on line you will find a section to list your passenger’s dietary needs and other comments.

We are able to accommodate passengers with slight walking difficulties. However, we recommend they are accompanied by a carer. We regret that our carriages cannot be boarded on wheelchair. Staff are able to assist passengers to their seats and folding wheelchairs can be stored during the journey.

Some journeys are not suitable for people with disabilities. Should you have any special requirements please contact your nearest reservations office.

Dress code varies according to the journey. For specific information on your journey please locate it on our Journey Search and refer to the what to wear section. Please note that we ask travellers not to wear jeans or trainers.

The Northern Belle is hauled by a heritage diesel locomotive unless advertised as a 'steam special'
Please ensure you bring your travel documents on the day of your journey
If booking up to eight (8) weeks prior to departure, a non-refundable 15% deposit is required to secure your seats
Payment is required in full if you are booking within eight (8) weeks of travel
Bookings of two attract a surcharge of £75 per passenger for a private table for two
Bookings of five or six attract a surcharge of £150 for the use of the private table for two
