Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between urgent care and advanced urgent care.

  • Ohio State Advanced Urgent Care is an advanced level of diagnostics and care led by emergency medicine physicians, giving you the expertise of a hospital emergency department but with shorter wait times and at a lower cost than visiting the emergency department.
  • In addition to the diagnostic tools and treatment available at Ohio State Urgent Care, our Advanced Urgent Care locations can also utilize CT scans and IV/hydration infusions to care for patients.
  • Ohio State Urgent Care is for non-life-threatening conditions requiring urgent attention but not serious enough to go to the emergency department.

What’s the difference between Orthopedic Urgent Care and Advanced Urgent Care?

Ohio State Orthopedic Urgent Care provides urgent care for sports- and activity-related injuries that have occurred within the last 2 weeks. Orthopedic and sports medicine physicians provide an advanced level of care, and all providers are skilled in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal injuries to bones, joints, ligaments, fascia, tendons and muscles. What makes Ohio State Orthopedic Urgent Care unique is the potential opportunity to consult with an orthopedic specialist in your initial visit they can expedite care to non-operative and surgical interventions to help return to their sport or activity sooner.

If urgent care is needed for sports- or activity-related injuries in the evenings or on weekends when Ohio State Orthopedic Urgent Care isn’t open, or you’re in closer proximity to any of our Advanced Urgent Care locations, we can provide the same high level of orthopedic urgent care and diagnostics, including X-rays.

  • Both have on-site, high-quality durable medical goods so you can leave with the medically assisted device you need, such as crutches, splints and boots.
  • Both can schedule follow-up appointments with an orthopedic or sports medicine specialist, and in some cases, physical therapy.

What’s the difference between Urgent Care and the emergency department?

  • Ohio State Urgent Care is for non-life-threatening conditions requiring urgent attention but not serious enough to go to the emergency department, saving you time and money.
  • The emergency department is for all life-threatening conditions and is equipped to handle any medical emergency. If you’re experiencing a serious or life-threatening illness or injury, visit the closest Ohio State Emergency Department  or call 911.

  • Fainting, sudden dizziness or weakness or changes in vision
  • Sudden or severe pain or abdominal pain
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
  • Severe headache

What’s the difference between Urgent Care and Same-Day Care?

Ohio State Same-Day Care is by appointment only and is staffed by highly qualified nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

  • We diagnose and treat less urgent conditions such as ear infections, flu, strep throat or pink eye.
  • We can also write prescriptions if medically appropriate.
  • Same-Day Care is also a good option when your primary care provider isn’t immediately available, or if you don’t have one. Schedule an appointment online to be seen at one of our four convenient Same-Day Care locations .
