Prince George was pictured visiting Eton College with his parents Kate Middleton and Prince William. The Prince and Princess of Wales were spotted yesterday touring the campus with their eldest son, who turns 10 next month. It's possible that in three years, the young prince will attend the all boys school, which is located near Windsor Castle.

When Prince William enrolled in Eton in 1995, he became the first senior royal to attend the school in Berkshire, England. Both his father, King Charles, and grandfather, Prince Philip, attended Gordonstoun, a boarding school in Scotland, but his maternal uncle and grandfather attended Eton. Other royals had attended Eton, including Queen Elizabeth's first cousins Prince Edward , Prince Richard , and Prince Michael .

Prince William was 13 years old when he began Eton, and his younger brother Prince Harry followed him three years later, enrolling in 1998.

Spare

In his memoir, Spare , Harry calls enrolling at Eton "a profound shock." He writes the school was "heaven for brilliant boys, it could thus only be purgatory for one very unbrilliant boy." Harry also writes that William pretended not to know him at school. "For the last two years, [William] explained, Eton had been his sanctuary. No kid brother tagging along, pestering him with questions, pushing up on his social circle. He was forging his own life, and he wasn't willing to give that up."

Prince William graduated from Eton in 2000, took a gap year, then enrolled at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. There, he met Kate Middleton . And the rest, they say, is history.

Prince George has been spotted on a visit to Eton with his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The nine-year-old was seen with Prince William and Kate Middleton on the grounds of the boarding school, which educates boys aged between 13 and 18.

It has sparked speculation that George, who turns 10 next month, will follow in the footsteps of his father and uncle, Prince Harry, who both boarded at Eton College .

On its website, Eton is described as a “modern, forward-thinking school that embraces innovation and new opportunities to provide an outstanding, progressive and well-rounded education”.

George currently attends private Lambrook School near Ascot in Berkshire, along with his siblings eight-year-old Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, aged five.

Outdoorsy and nurturing prep school Lambrook, where fees are costing the Waleses more than £53,000 a year, has been described by parents as “magical”.

Year 8 leavers join prestigious schools such as Eton, Wellington College, Marlborough College, where Kate went, and Charterhouse among others.

George and Charlotte began their school days happily at private day school Thomas’s Battersea – a busy, cosmopolitan establishment in south London – with George starting in 2017 and Charlotte in 2019.

Their father William and uncle Harry went to board at Eton for five years. William’s first day began with a photocall with his separated parents joining him in a show of solidarity, with Harry also taking part.

The 13-year-old smiled broadly as he was greeted by scores of photographers.

A three-tier scaffolding stage was erected opposite Manor House where William was to live as a boarder, to allow the press a one-off view of the new Etonian.

George, Charlotte and Louis’ grandfather, King Charles III, had a difficult time at secondary school as a teenager.

Charles was sent to Gordonstoun School in Moray, Scotland, following in the footsteps of his father Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh, but was picked on and described his days there as “a prison sentence”.

Charles did admit, however, that the school instilled him with self-discipline and a sense of responsibility.

Prince George spotted visiting Prince William’s alma mater Eton College

Prince George, Kate Middleton, Prince William and Prince Louis

School ties.

Prince George may be attending his father Prince William’s alma matter, Eton College, sometime in the future.

The 9-year-old was seen visiting the school with William, 41, and mom Kate Middleton Wednesday, according to Hello! magazine.

For the trip, the little prince donned navy shorts and a short-sleeved shirt.

George stood next to his father, who matched in a blue casual suit.

Middleton, 41, and William were spotted happily talking with employees by a sign that said: “Porters’ Lodge.”

The Prince of Wales attended Eton — which sits next to Windsor Castle — in 1995 when he was 13.

Five years later, he graduated and made his way to college at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

George will be turning 10 next month, however, in order for him to be eligible for a 2026 entry at Eton, children should be registered  by June.

The institution costs about $58,000 a year and is for boys 13 to 18.

The all-male elite school was founded by King Henry VI in 1440 and many prominent figures have attended including Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston and former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Prince William

Several other members of the royal family have also earned their diplomas from Eton, including the late Queen Elizabeth’s first cousins Prince Edward, Prince Richard and Prince Michael.

As for George, he has been attending Lambrook School in Berkshire since September 2022 alongside his younger siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

William’s younger bother, Prince Harry, is also an alum of Eton, having been a student there between 1998 and 2003.

Prince William

The Duke of Sussex, 38, gave some insight into his experience at the school, writing in his recent memoir “ Spare ” that going to Eton was “a profound shock.”

“[While Eton was] heaven for brilliant boys, it could thus only be purgatory for one very unbrilliant boy,” Harry wrote, adding that William refused to acknowledge him when they saw each other during class.

The Invictus Games founder went on: “[William] explained, Eton had been his sanctuary. No kid brother tagging along, pestering him with questions, pushing up on his social circle. He was forging his own life, and he wasn’t willing to give that up.”

Prince George and Prince William

William was the first senior royal to be educated at the institution, as his father King Charles and grandfather Prince Philip had attended the Scottish boarding school, Gordonstoun.

The monarch, 74, reportedly despised Gordonstoun when he was enrolled there in the 1960s.

Charles was bullied mercilessly during his time there — which has allegedly made him a   “kinder” and more “emphatic” sovereign.

Prince George was seen touring Eton College with Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Prince George appears to be following in his dad’s footsteps.

The eldest son of Prince William and Kate Middleton was seen touring the prestigious Eton College in Windsor, England, Wednesday.

The trio was spotted talking to two members of staff at the school, which William began attending in 1995, and his brother, Prince Harry, in 1998.

The 9-year-old wore a pair of navy shorts, a blue short-sleeved shirt and black shoes as he stood beside his father, who looked smart in a blue jacket and a pair of dark trousers.

Middleton, who also shares daughter Charlotte, 8, and son Louis, 5, with the Prince of Wales, looked radiant in an aquamarine dress and beige ballet pumps with a small heel.

She styled her brunette hair in loose waves, which blew in the wind while she spoke to the staff members at the boys-only school.

The institution costs about $58,600 a year in fees, and has educated the likes of actor Eddie Redmayne and former British Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and David Cameron.

Although Eton only accepts boys from the age of 13, George will celebrate his 10th birthday next month, so it’s thought his parents may be getting him familiar with the school early.

He currently attends Lambrook School in Berkshire — along with his two younger siblings — which has a strong environmental focus and dozens of music classes on offer.

Unlike William and Harry, George’s grandfather, King Charles lll, attended the Scottish boarding school Gordonstoun.

Prince George

He was sent to the school by his father, Prince Philip, who also attended the school. However, Charles is believed to have “detested” his time there.

Novelist William Boyd said the newly crowned monarch described it as “penal servitude.”

Charles has downplayed these reports through the years.

“I am always astonished by the amount of rot talked about Gordonstoun and the careless use of ancient clichés used to describe it,” he said during a House of Lords speech in 1975.

“It was only tough in the sense that it demanded more of you as an individual than most other schools did – mentally or physically.”

When the time came, Charles ultimately opted not to send his own children to the Scottish school.

Eton College

George, who may mark the second generation of royals to attend Eton, most recently celebrated Father’s Day with William, and flashed a giant smile while posing beside his siblings and their dad.

“Happy Father’s Day,” the family captioned a portrait taken by Millie Pilkington and  released on Twitter  last week.

Their youngest child, Louis, wrapped his arms around the heir to the British throne and flashed a cheeky smile at the camera.

William at Eton College

Meanwhile, George and Charlotte sat beside William, 40, and looked up at him adoringly.

The never-before-seen snap even offered a nod to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The Prince and Princess of Wales posed for the photograph on a bench at the Windsor Estate that was gifted to the long-reigning monarch in 2016 on her 90th birthday.

Prince George was seen at Eton on Wednesday alongside his doting parents

Prince George has been spotted visiting Eton alongside parents William and Kate.

The nine-year-old has been schooled at Lambrook School in Berkshire since September last year, but a visit to the prestigious public school on Wednesday - which costs £46,000 a year in fees - has sparked talks on whether he will follow in his father's footsteps.

Prince William also attended the historic boys' school near Windsor as a child from 1995, after King Charles attended Scottish boarding school Gordonstoun - which he reportedly hated.

George, who will next month celebrate his 10th birthday, was seen accompanied by his doting parents at the college on Wednesday as the Prince and Princess of Wales chatted with staff.

Kate was seen talking to two employees of the famous and historic school while wearing an elegant aquamarine dress and ballet pumps, Hello! reports .

The family were standing near an archway, by a sign that reads: 'Porters' Lodge' and previous reports about the school explain that through the doors you'll find the school yard where a statue of the college's founder, King Henry VI, is displayed.

Prince William was the first senior royal to go to Eton, and was followed by brother Harry who was also educated there between 1998 and 2003.

Fees for Eton are a staggering £15,432 per term - according to the school's website - with a £400 fee just for registering, although scholarships are offered to pupils who pass an exam.

It is one of three public schools to have remained boys only, alongside Harrow and Radley, and having educated the likes of George Orwell and Eddie Redmayne.

It also counts 20 British Prime Ministers along its alumni, including Boris Johnson and David Cameron .

While Eton only takes boys from the age of 13, it's thought Kate and William could be getting George used to the school if he is also to study there.

George currently attends the same school as sister Princess Charlotte and brother Prince Louis , which is Lambrook School in Berkshire.

Previous to that, he was at St Thomas' in Battersea, London.

As well as strong academic standards, private mixed school Lambrook has 178 LAMDA lessons on offer each week along with 420 individual music lessons, from tap dancing to bagpipe playing.

The school also has a firm environmental focus, with each class in charge of its own veg patch, as well as lessons on ecology and the food industry.

Pupils planted 300 saplings last year to reduce their carbon footprint, meanwhile.

The school also houses rabbits which the children are welcome to pet at lunchtimes.

A previous post on their Instagram read: "The Lambrook Orchard is home to pigs, chickens, rabbits, bees and visiting lambs.

"As part of our sustainability curriculum, we teach our children about their natural environment; our hope is that caring for these animals will equip the children with practical skills, a greater understanding of animal welfare and the food industry, as well as providing plenty of entertainment and joy."

When the royal trio joined the school in September 2022, Headmster Jonathan Perry, said: "We are delighted that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will be joining us this coming September and very much look forward to welcoming the family, as well as all of our new pupils, to our school community."

Prince George has been spotted on a visit to Eton with his parents the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The nine-year-old was seen with William and Kate on the grounds of the boarding school, which educates boys aged between 13 and 18.

It has sparked speculation that George, who turns 10 next month, will follow in the footsteps of his father, William, and uncle, Prince Harry, who both boarded at Eton College.

Outdoorsy and nurturing prep school Lambrook, where fees are costing William and Kate more than £53,000 a year, has been described by parents as “magical”.

Year 8 leavers join prestigious schools such as Eton, Wellington College, Marlborough College, where Kate went, and Charterhouse among others.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte began their school days happily at private day school Thomas’s Battersea – a busy, cosmopolitan establishment in south London – with George starting in 2017 and Charlotte in 2019.

George, Charlotte and Louis’ grandfather the King had a difficult time at secondary school as a teenager.

Prince George reportedly got a taste of boarding school life as parents Kate Middleton and Prince William accompanied him on a prestigious visit to Eton College.

  • Prince George was reportedly spotted paying a visit to Eton College with his mum and dad.
  • The Wales youngster looks set to follow in the footsteps of Prince William and attend the school when he turns 13.
  • This royal news comes after Princess Charlotte was praised for her poise and bravery after a 'painful' balcony head bump with little brother Prince Louis .

Prince George was reportedly seen paying a visit to the prestigious Eton College, where Prince William once studied.

The nine-year-old future King who currently attends Lambrook school alongside his siblings Princess Charlotte , eight, and Prince Louis , five, is said to have been seen visiting Eton with his parents earlier this week.

While many families want to know what to look out for when buying a school uniform , royal fans are wondering what Prince George is doing at Eton.

The special outing comes after Prince George attended the King's birthday parade and Trooping the Colour, in which he was told on by his sister Charlotte for 'wiping his sneeze on his trousers' .

For the college visit Prince George reportedly wore a pair of navy shorts, short sleeved shirt and black shoes as he stood next to William who was wearing a blue jacket and navy trousers.

Meanwhile, mum Kate was seen in an aquamarine coloured dress with pointed ballerina flat shoes and appeared to speak to two Eton employees.

According to Hello! The Wales trio were standing near an archway by a sign that reads 'Porters' Lodge' and previous reports about the school explain that through the doors is a school yard with a statue of the college's founder King Henry VI.

Speculation has gathered as to whether Prince George will follow in his father's footsteps and enrol in the college when he turns 13.

One fan tweeted, "Perhaps they bring him there to see the school himself so he'll know if he likes it."

A second fan claimed, "We know Eton wont reject George but I love how the Wale’s go through the correct process and protocols at the correct time."

Another fan added, "If George goes to Eton he could walk to his home. William used to walk to Windsor Castle every weekend to spend time with Queen Elizabeth ."

And one fan shared, "In case you’re wondering why they’re visiting Eton when Prince George is only 10 (or almost 10)..." and posted a snipped of entry requirements which reads, "Like Radley College, the third school to uphold the all-boys, all-boarding tradition, entry into Eton is very competitive. You must register your son three years ahead of his planned entry date...."

However, there is no official confirmation on this.

Prince William attended Eton in 1995 and became the first senior member of the royal family to go and brother Prince Harry joined him when he was old enough to attend.

Since moving to Adelaide Cottage near Windsor Castle last year, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have been pupils at private day school, Lambrook.

But when Prince George, who is now nine-years-old, turns 13, a move to a new school will be in order - and it looks like he could be preparing to follow in Prince William's footsteps.

According to Hello!, Prince George, who is second in the line of succession , was seen paying a visit to Eton College alongside his dad and mom, Princess Catherine, with the trio being shown around by two members of staff.

While Prince George will celebrate his 10th birthday next month, enrolment for boys set to attend Eton when they are 13 must be done by the 30th of June of the year they turn 10. This means Prince George may have been visiting to get a feel for where he'll be taking on his future studies.

Attending Eton certainly isn't cheap either, with just one term at the school currently costing £15,432 - along with a £400 fee payable just for registering.

There's extras on top, too. An hour of music lessons per week will set parents back an extra £680 per term.

“There’s a Lot of Tension” Between Prince William and Princess Kate Over Whether to Send Prince George to Eton

The couple has reportedly argued about the decision for years—and one parent seems to have finally won out.

Prince William and Kate Middleton

Earlier this year, Marie Claire reported that the Prince and Princess of Wales were in a “bit of an argument” over eldest son Prince George ’s role in his grandfather King Charles ’ Coronation—although, for this “argument,” it seems William and Kate were on the same side. Both were concerned that George’s role as a Page of Honor might put him under too much pressure, but, ultimately, as we saw on May 6, the Palace won out, and George seemed to handle everything seamlessly.

Prince George ahead of his 10th birthday on July 22, 2023

Much ado has been made of late about George’s potential future at Eton, the school where both his father William and his uncle Prince Harry attended; both William and Harry boarded at Eton, which educates boys ages 13 to 18. (George will turn 13 on July 22, 2026, and, if admitted, would likely start at Eton that fall.) Early in the summer, William, Kate, and George were seen visiting the exclusive boarding school, signaling that Eton was likely in George’s future. Though George won’t begin at Eton until fall 2026, boys who plan to attend the school must register by June 30 of the school year that they turn 10, which was this past summer. (George turned 10 on July 22.) Eton isn’t far from Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, where George lives with his parents and his younger siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

George will sit for entrance exams to Eton next month, coincidentally the same week that William will be in Singapore for his third annual Earthshot Prize Awards. Driving home the importance of these exams for George’s educational future, Kate has opted to forgo traveling to Singapore with her husband in favor of being there for her eldest son as he takes the exams, marking the first time she will miss the Earthshot Prize Awards since the awards ceremony’s inception in 2021.

Prince William and Kate Middleton at the Earthshot Prize Awards

OK reports that there is another disagreement brewing over George, but this time about Eton, and this time, William and Kate don’t appear to be on the same side. The outlet reports that “there’s a lot of tension” surrounding the decision to board George, and that Kate is “dead set against it.”

“Kate thinks sending him to such a stuffy, upper-crust institution goes against all of their efforts to modernize the monarchy,” a source said. “Plus, she’ll miss George desperately.”

Although the couple “argued about it for years,” they said, “he [William] has finally won.”

It seems like George himself played a role in the decision as well, as they said “he wants to be just like his father,” who, of course, attended Eton. Though Kate “finally gave in, she’s still heartbroken” over sending George off in three years’ time.

Prince George

“She was horribly bullied at her first boarding school and can’t bear the thought of George suffering through that,” they said.

The good news, of course, is that Eton is just 10 minutes away from Adelaide Cottage, and though “it’s boarding only,” they said, it’s still “close enough that George would be able to come home on weekends.” (William, while at Eton, used to visit Queen Elizabeth for tea because she was so close by while at Windsor Castle .)

And, in addition to Kate apparently feeling that “her family is being torn apart,” she is also concerned about Charlotte and Louis boarding in the future, as well: “There’s also the worry that William will insist the other two kids be shipped out next,” they said (that’s a bit of a dramatic way to put it, but the sentiment remains). “Kate knows this is all part of her ‘royal duty,’ but there’s a lot of tension between her and her husband right now.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton at an engagement together

William and Kate have all but completely rewritten the rulebook on royal parenting, an echo, in large part, of Kate’s own upbringing by her parents, Michael and Carole Middleton. “Kate has very much charted her own course in some respects, [but] she’s an outsider,” royal expert Dr. Tessa Dunlop said. “She’s an incredibly successful import into the royal family and bought into the institution of monarchy, almost like no other outsider has, and reaffirmed its sort of conventional parameters.”

Eton is an all-boys boarding school that is home to 1,350 pupils and costs $20,000 per term (and there are three terms per year). There is also a $500 registration fee. William was the first senior royal to attend Eton, enrolling at age 13 in 1995; prior to William breaking the mold, most boys in the royal family attended Gordonstoun in Scotland. William’s mother Princess Diana’s father and brother both attended Eton, and William’s experience was incredibly positive there: “He forged a series of close friendships that endure to this day and, like his father’s more grueling experience in Scotland, it instilled in him a resilience that has served him well,” writes royal expert Richard Kay. “Eton also gave William a taste for independence and privacy that is difficult to find for young royals, whose lives are so often under the spotlight.”

Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis together

George, Charlotte, and Louis all currently attend Lambrook School, where they are day pupils, returning home to Adelaide Cottage at the end of each school day.

Prince George is already preparing for Eton and will be given 'all the help he needs'

It's 'quite difficult' and 'competitive' according to one royal expert

Prince George is preparing for Eton

It may seem like only yesterday that Prince William and Kate Middleton were standing on the steps of St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, showing the newborn Prince George to the world - but their eldest son is now ten years old, and will soon be moving on from his classmates.

The young royal currently attends Lambrook School in Bracknell, Berkshire, alongside his younger sister Princess Charlotte , 8, and younger brother Prince Louis, 5. The Prince and Princess of Wales' children moved from St Thomas' Battersea last year when the family relocated from their London home, 1A Kensington Palace , to the Grade II listed building, Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.

Although Prince George only recently celebrated his tenth birthday, he will already be preparing for his move from Lambrook School according to one royal expert.

According to historian and author Tessa Dunlop - whose books include Elizabeth and Philip: A Story of Young Love, Marriage and Monarchy - George is already working towards his entrance exams for the prestigious boarding school, Eton College.

While he is enrolled at Lambrook until he is 13 years old (or the equivalent of completing Year 8), he is being 'given all the help he needs' according to the royal expert as preparations being early for entrance into the elite educational institution.

Dunlop told OK! magazine: "Schools such as Lambrook are hothouses - they're feeder schools for the big public schools... the biggest of the lot being Eton which we already know George has looked around.

"The grading or the testing is very competitive to get into Eton, it's one of the most sought-after schools in the world, and it begins two years early. It's like a sub-selection process.

Marie Claire Newsletter

Celebrity news, beauty, fashion advice, and fascinating features, delivered straight to your inbox!

"It's also quite difficult if you aren't royal. It's very competitive, but I'm sure George will get in."

Both Prince William and Prince Harry attended Eton College when they turned 13, so it is likely that George will follow in his father's footsteps. The annual schooling fees come to around £46,296.

Dunlop added that George 'won't need' additional tuition to pass the Eton exams as it will be expected that his current school, Lambrook, is providing enough support. However, she does say that 'he'll be given all the help he needs'.

It has previously been suggested that William and Kate 'will never force' George to attend boarding school , but they will instead consider how their eldest son wants to continue his education.

Prince George in Study Mode! All About His School Exams This Week — and Mom Kate Middleton's Support

While Prince William is in Singapore for the Earthshot Prize awards, Princess Kate stayed home to help their son during a busy week

Prince George has a big week on the books at the Lambrook School .

The 10-year-old prince is buckling down for an important round of classroom exams, and Prince William even referenced the tests when explaining why Kate Middleton wasn't with him in Singapore for the Earthshot Prize .

“Catherine is very sorry she can’t be here. She is helping George through his first set of major exams,” the Prince of Wales, 41, said in a speech at the United for Wildlife summit on Monday morning, which fell ahead of the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony on Tuesday.

PEOPLE learned in September that Princess Kate, 41, would not join her husband at the third annual ceremony for the environmental prize because the inaugural Earthshot Week coincided with Prince George's exams. Instead, the royal mom is home in Windsor to support him.

Samir Hussein/WireImage

According to Hello! magazine, Prince George is believed to be taking the ISEB Common Pre-Tests. The exams are typically taken by students in Year 6 (the American equivalent of fifth grade) and “used to assess a pupil’s attainment and potential prior to entry into a senior school,” the U.K. tutoring service Simply Learning Tuition states. Pupils take four tests in English, mathematics, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning, which are presented in a multiple-choice format, the ISEB (Independent Schools Examinations Board) website states.

Fortunately for Prince George, he’ll probably only need to sit for the tests once. Simply Learning Tuition notes that the ISEB Common Pre-Test is a “shared assessment” and is accepted by dozens of schools, including Eton College and Marlborough College, which are Prince William and Princess Kate’s respective alma maters.

Daniel Leal - WPA Pool/Getty

However, he won’t be finished with rigorous tests quite yet!

“If the candidate is successful, they will usually be offered a place, conditional on them passing the Year 8 Common Entrance Exam. It is important to note that the Pre-Test is a precursor to Common Entrance or Scholarship exams, which they will still be required to take,” the tutoring firm states.

While the Prince and Princess of Wales’ three kids — Prince George, Princess Charlotte , 8, and Prince Louis , 5 — all attend the Lambrook School near their home in Windsor, the prep school only goes up to Year 8, the American equivalent of 7th grade. From there, George will have to start a new school — and speculation is swirling that he might follow in his mom or dad’s footsteps at Marlborough or Eton.

In October, Richard Eden of The Daily Mail reported that Princess Kate, 41, visited the boarding school in Marlborough.

"Catherine was here the other day. It’s been the talk of the school,” a source told the royal reporter.

Princess Kate and her siblings, Pippa and James Middleton, are all Marlborough grads, as is Prince William’s cousin Princess Eugenie .

Over the summer, Prince George was also spotted with his parents on a visit to Eton College , where Prince William and Prince Harry went as teenagers.

Although Eton College students are between the ages of 13 and 18, they must be registered before June 30 of the school year the boy turns 10. (Prince George marked his 10th birthday in July.) According to the school's website , "After this, the only route of entry will be through scholarships or Sixth Form entry, which open in Year 8 (for Year 9 entry) and Year 11 (for Sixth Form entry)."

Although Eton is located near the family's Adelaide Cottage home in Windsor, it is an all-boys school. Because Marlborough is co-ed, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis could potentially join George there one day.

Both Eton and Marlborough currently cost about $20,000 per term, and there are three terms per year.

In a relatable mom moment while visiting Wales last month, Princess Kate shared Prince George’s hilarious take on testing in schools. The Princess of Wales shared her son’s comment while visiting Fitzalan High School in Cardiff with Prince William for the kickoff of Black History Month in the U.K., and hinted that George felt all the testing was excessive!

In a clip shared on TikTok by Matt Wilkinson of The Sun , Kate sat at a table of senior students and said, “George is just at the beginning of being tested. He says, ‘Mummy, I keep getting tested all the time.’ But when it gets to A-levels, you feel like you're on it.”

Are William And Kate Sending Prince George To Marlborough College?

Are Prince William And Kate Middleton Sending Prince George To Marlborough College

Eton College has been synonymous with the royals ever since Prince William and his younger brother Prince Harry were pupils there in the 1990s. So it was widely assumed that Prince George would follow in his father’s footsteps by attending the school for his secondary education, something that seemed to be confirmed by a visit earlier this summer. Yet, in a royal curveball, the 10-year-old prince has reportedly also been seen looking around Marlborough College with his parents – the alma mater of his mother, the Princess of Wales .

The facade of Marlborough College in Wiltshire.

The facade of Marlborough College in Wiltshire.

Established in 1843, the £47,000-a-year private school is situated in the picturesque town of Marlborough in Wiltshire, just over an hour’s drive from the Wales family home of Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor Estate. Co-educational since 1989, it is the largest mixed-sex boarding school in the country, with just over 1,000 pupils. Indeed, one major benefit of the school is that Prince George’s younger sister, Princess Charlotte, will be able to attend alongside him – as will his younger brother, Prince Louis. All three are currently pupils together at Lambrook School, a local “feeder” primary school, which they will attend until they are 13.

Prince George is accompanied by the Prince of Wales for his first day of school in Battersea, London in 2017.

Marlborough is known for its academic prowess as well as for being progressive – something that is no doubt important to the royal couple. The master is Catherine’s former Latin teacher, Louise Moelwyn-Hughes, who grew up on a council estate in Northern Ireland, before securing a place at Cambridge University. On the school’s website, she writes: “At Marlborough, individuality is encouraged and differences are celebrated – we are genuinely excited about the prospect of our community spanning pupils and staff who come from all walks of life and with all types of different experiences. This, in turn, ensures that the College remains a vibrant, diverse, and happy place where new perspectives, new ideas, different characters, and aspirations flourish.”

The Princess of Wales – then known as Kate Middleton – is known to have enjoyed attending Marlborough, which she joined midway through the academic year after being bullied at her all-girls school, Downe House. She thrived in the co-educational setting, and was a member of both the hockey and cross-country teams, achieving two As and a B in her A-levels and securing her place at the University of St Andrews. Catherine counts many of her school friends as close friends to this day, including Prince George’s godmother, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, and Alicia Fox-Pitt. Her previous experience of bullying will likely be shaping her decision-making, with the princess reportedly being a strong advocate for a co-educational setting.

Other family members who attended Marlborough include Prince George’s aunt and uncle, Pippa Matthews and James Middleton, as well as his father’s cousin, Princess Eugenie. Famous alumni include the poet John Betjeman, the artist William Morris, and Samantha Cameron, fashion designer and wife of the former Prime Minister, David Cameron.

Were George to attend Marlborough, it wouldn’t be the first time that an heir to the throne has broken with tradition on the education front. Indeed, Eton as a royal rite of passage is a relatively new thing. Prince William was actually the first major royal to enroll at Eton, as his father, Prince Charles, his grandfather, Prince Philip, and his uncles Prince Andrew and Prince Edward were all educated at the Scottish boarding school Gordonstoun.

So why did Prince Charles and Princess Diana choose to send William to Eton? The top private school – which counts 20 former Prime Ministers amongst its former pupils – was first and foremost a lot closer to home than Gordonstoun, and was renowned for its unofficial status as a feeder school to Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, and father, John, 8th Earl Spencer, were both Old Etonians, and it was widely rumoured that Prince Charles had wanted to attend the school. It also wasn’t totally without royal precedent, as three of the Queen’s cousins, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, and Prince Michael of Kent, were also former pupils, and the Queen herself had undertaken lessons in constitutional history there.

It seems that there are similar impulses behind William and Catherine’s desire to send George to Marlborough, particularly as they are so keen for him to have as normal a life as possible – one that emulates the childhood of his mother and her siblings. At Eton, he would be one of a handful of extremely privileged boys who will go on to be at the top of their chosen fields, but at Marlborough, he will meet a wider variety of people, both boys and girls, while still thriving academically. While Eton is known for its educational quirks – including its own language (teachers are known as “beaks,” for example) – Marlborough, while still prestigious and historic, feels more modern.

Prince George wore an adorable claret and blue Villa scarf to the match in support of his team.

Speaking about the love of the team in a past interview, William said: "A long time ago at school I got into football big time.

"All my friends were Chelsea or Manchester United fans and I didn't really want to follow the run-of-the-mill team.

"I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments. Aston Villa has always had a great history."
