  Summer Programs

One-on-one custom visits .

Students and families have the opportunity to meet with a staff member for 45 minutes to find out more about Early Start or Summer Start.  We will schedule your visit around other campus activities (for example, Daily Visits with Admissions, information sessions, and 1-1 visits with academic majors).  One major benefit is that students save an average of $54,400 by using summer courses to graduate early.  More than 700 incoming students took advantage of summer courses last year.

Early Start 

Earn up to 9 credit hours before the fall semester.  Students can complete the program online or on-campus.  This program is open to students admitted to the fall semester. 

Summer Start 

Some students are admitted directly to Summer Start by the Office of Admissions.  This residential program provides access to a success coach through graduation, involvement in a learning community, and much more.  This program is only offered in the initial admissions letter from the Office of Admissions.

Enjoy a student-guided campus walking tour and an information session that is customized for admitted students.

Your experience includes:

• Information Session  (30 minutes) —  Gain insights into Purdue's academic programs, resources and life on campus. Plus, get all the information you'll need about your next steps as an admitted student.
• Campus Tour  (90 minutes) —  Explore campus with student tour guides on a walking tour.

Purdue hosts Daily Visits almost every day, sometimes multiple per day, and on some Saturdays.

International Student Information Sessions

These 90-minute virtual information sessions are for admitted international students. Sessions will be presented and moderated by an international admissions counselor, who will walk you through next steps as an admitted student. Topics of discussion will include the student visa process, international student orientation, and being a part of the Purdue community. Participants will also have the opportunity for their questions to be answered by a live student panel at the conclusion of each session.

The April 5, 8:00 AM event is designed for students who were admitted to Purdue University in Indianapolis, however all are welcome to attend!

This two hour virtual information session is for students who are interested in transferring to Purdue. Sessions will be presented and moderated by an admissions counselor, who will walk you through next steps as transfer student. Participants will also have the opportunity to opt in to a first-come-first-serve 15 minute one-on-one meeting with one of our admissions counselors.

Detecting T riboluminescence - Chemistry's Jonathan Amy Facility for Chemical Instrumentation helped develop an instrument to detect trace crystallinity in pharmaceutical formulations.

Virtual Reality-Based Drug Discovery Game  -  Professor Gaurav Chopra and his research team demonstrate a new platform for teaching chemical education.

Scientific Glass Lab  - Glass blower Jordan Smith gives a tour of the lab and highlights the services offered.

Machining Basics -  Graduate students in Professor Garth Simpson’s research group have been learning basic precision machining techniques taught by Purdue Chemistry machinist Randy Replogle.

Portable Mass Spectrometer detects Contaminants on Produce - Analytical Chemistry Professor R. Graham Cooks and his grad students are taking sophisticated instruments out of the lab and into the real environment with the potential to monitor fresh produce in the supply chain.

Information Sessions & Tours

Business Information Sessions are held on most Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:30 a.m. ET. Information sessions are group visits that include a presentation about our undergraduate opportunities and a tour of the business buildings by a current student. You can expect our information sessions to last an hour.

New business center service request application to impact West Lafayette faculty, staff and students

On May 1, Team Dynamix (TDX) will replace FootPrints, the electronic ticketing system currently in use by West Lafayette Employment and Purchasing Center teams to track service requests. Administered through the Purdue Service Portal , TDX has similar functionality to FootPrints when it comes to managing service requests and has been used by Information Technology since July 2023. 

Today, service requests are submitted through email or a Qualtrics form. This service request submission process will continue to be offered with the implementation of the new ticketing tool. In addition, the Purdue Service Portal now offers standardized forms that have been developed to promote further process efficiencies for business center requests. The use of these forms promotes efficiency by collecting all information needed to start a service request with the request submission, eliminating the need for follow-up questions that can delay task completion. Form usage also supports the potential future automation of some reconciliation and payment tasks. 

Campus users who currently submit their service requests via email or a center-specific form will continue to have that ability but are encouraged to transition to the new request forms located in the service portal. Regardless of submission method, service requests will be executed in the new system, and all customers will benefit from the ability to log in to the Purdue Service Portal to track a service request’s status. 

Resources for business offices and other customers can be found on the Service Portal (TDX) Resources website. Resources include a Requester User Guide, video tutorials, FAQs and direct links to the Purdue Service Portal. The portal links will be live May 1. 

No follow-up action is needed from campus staff who have active purchasing or employment requests with their center teams. Service requests in FootPrints will be completed in the current system or converted to TDX for completion.

Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette to host 'Tourism Week,' promoting local activities and treats

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Greater Lafayette residents have the chance to be a tourist in their own city for a week as Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette prepares to host its second annual Tourism Week beginning Monday.

Sara Erickson, director of communications for Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette, said prior to 2020, the organization annually held a tailgate event, but as organizers looked to bring back the celebration of all Greater Lafayette has to offer in 2023, a week-long celebration of fun felt like a better fit.

While the week's scheduled events are free, Friday's Coffee Crawl and Art Museum of Greater Lafayette Art Crawl both require free online tickets in advance. Erickson said within days of listing the Coffee Crawl's tickets online, they sold out.

"Seeing the success with these crawls has shown us there is opportunity to host more unique crawls in the future," Erickson said.

Here is the official line-up of events beginning Monday:

Monday, May 20

Triple XXX root beer and popcorn at the Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette visitors center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 301 Frontage Road in Lafayette.

Tuesday, May 21

Free entrance to the Columbian Park Zoo from noon to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, May 22

The Igloo Frozen Custard mobile cart will be parked outside the Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette visitors center, offering frozen treats from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — or until supplies run out.

Thursday, May 23

From 4 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette visitors center, Flourish Mobile Art will host crafting opportunities alongside area food trucks, games and a chance to meet Lafayette Aviators mascot Ace the Aviator

Friday, May 24

A Community Coffee Crawl will take place throughout downtown Lafayette with tickets required. An Art Museum of Greater Lafayette Art Crawl will also take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Free tickets are available at homeofpurdue.com.
