News: Queen Returns To Tour Australia With Adam Lambert

queen band tour of australia

(AUS)  Legendary superstar band QUEEN + Adam Lambert have just announced they will visit Australia.  “Let’s ROCK those beautiful arenas JUST ONE MORE TIME!” said Brian May.

This is the first Queen tour of Australia since 1985.

Queen + Adam Lambert received glowing reviews for their performance together at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas last September, triggering a conversation between Adam, Roger and Brian to take the show on the road.

The threesome first shared the stage during American Idol in May 2009 for a performance of “We Are The Champions”. They teamed up again in 2011 at the MTV European Music Awards in Belfast, Ireland for an electrifying eight-minute finale of “The Show Must Go On”, “We Will Rock You” and “We Are The Champions” and in the summer of 2012, Lambert performed a series of shows with Queen across Europe as well as dates in Russia, Ukraine and Poland.  They also performed three sold-out gigs at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.

Promoter Paul Dainty said of this momentous tour “Since I have started promoting and producing concert tours, one of my biggest dreams has been to bring Queen back to Australia and now this dream is a reality.  This may be the last chance Australian fans have to see one of the greatest rock bands in history and, as Rolling Stone recently said ‘’Adam Lambert fronting Queen will astound audiences.”

“I’m completely in awe of the Queen phenomenon,” added Lambert. “The thought of sharing the stage for a full set in Australia is so beautifully surreal. I’m honoured to be able to pay my respects to Freddie’s memory; he’s a personal hero of mine, and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band. I know this tour will be a huge milestone for me, and with the support of Brian, Roger and the rest of the band, I feel like magic will be on display.”

In a career spanning over 40 years Queen has amassed a staggering list of sales, awards, and hall of fame inductions that is second to none.  Record sales in the hundreds of millions of units, including an unprecedented string of number one albums and top-charting singles that continue to put Queen in the top ten of all-time iTunes sales, seven Ivor Novello Awards, an MTV Global Icon Award, two songs enshrined in the Grammy Hall of Fame –  “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions” – which also remain the most played songs at sports events and arenas around the world.  The statistics show Queen has the highest selling back catalogue in Australia, outselling even the Beatles.  Even with the tragic loss of their uniquely talented singer Freddie Mercury, Queen remain one of the most revered bands in rock and pop history, able to claim one of the most enduring song catalogues of all time. Just think: “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Another One Bites the Dust”, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, “Radio Ga Ga”, “Killer Queen”, “Fat Bottomed Girls”, “Bicycle Race”, songs that form the backdrop to the lives of generations of fans across all ages. With their sterling song craft, virtuoso musicality,  and colossal spectacle of their live performances, Queen – Brian May, Freddie Mercury, Roger Taylor and John Deacon – captured hearts and conquered charts like no other band in history, a legacy that continues to live through the ongoing work and concert performances by May and Taylor. Their musical We Will Rock You , co-created with writer Ben Elton, is approaching its 12th year on stage in London’s West End and is currently touring North America.

Adam Lambert’s stunning performances on the eighth season of American Idol are still widely regarded as some of the most riveting moments in the show’s history. His debut album For Your Entertainment earned him a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. His second album, Trespassing , debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. The subsequent tour took Lambert from Australia to South Africa, throughout Asia and Eastern Europe and culminated in a sold-out arena show in Helsinki, Finland. In 2013, Lambert appeared as a guest star on the hit TV series, GLEE. He is currently writing and recording for his third album, which will be released this year

Tickets to the general public will go on sale at 10am on Wednesday 28 May.

Australian audiences will be in for a treat with Lambert as frontman for Queen. I’ve seen them in concert and they’re terrific.

Australia, you’re in for a real treat. I saw 2 performances at London’s Hammersmith-Apollo theater. Adam won over a very skeptical London audience. By the midway thru ea performance, they were cheering as crazily as a bunch of Glamberts for him. The London newspaper reviews were glowing. Adam was born for this type of show. He loves Austrailia, and audiences there will love him with the venerable Brian May and Roger Taylor! Get your tickets fast, and have a ball!

Queen are bigger than ever thanks to the success of biopic Bohemian Rhapsody — and they’ll mount a massive Aussie tour next year.

Buoyed by the massive success of Oscar-winning biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, rock band Queen will embark on a massive tour of Australian stadiums in early 2020.

The iconic group will once more enlist singer Adam Lambert as their frontman, singing the songs made famous by the late, great Freddie Mercury.

L-R: Adam Lambert with Roger Taylor and Brian May of Queen.

Expect ‘The Rhapsody Tour’ to be quite possibly the band’s biggest Australian tour ever, with Queen ruling the charts again, almost 50 years after they first formed: Including the Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack, the band has three albums inside the ARIA top 10 this week.

Bohemian Rhapsody has so far earned $55 million at the Australian box office, making it one of the top-grossing films of all time in this country.

“We have a brand-new visual spectacle that will reframe these iconic songs and we are excited to reveal the show to Australian fans,” said Lambert in a statement.

The tour’s set designer Ric Lipson said fans could expect something truly spectacular from The Rhapsody Tour.

“Queen + Adam Lambert’s Rhapsody tour will, once again for them, expand the parameters of what a live music experience can be. This new show promises to be their most spectacular yet, an innovative and interactive celebration of the continued power of Queen’s music,” he said.

The British band responsible for one of the biggest songs of the last decade has just announced a string of shows.

Another major music festival has been canned for good, citing rising costs and low ticket sales as a reason for its demise.

Justin Timberlake’s team have hit back over footage of the singer that’s circulated widely in the wake of his drunken driving arrest last week.

queen band tour of australia

QUEEN + ADAM LAMBERT – THE RHAPSODY TOUR Heading to Australian Stadiums in February 2020!

Off the back of the enormous success of the film Bohemian Rhapsody, comes the announcement of another Australian Queen tour featuring vocalist Adam Lambert

Queen original band members Brian May and Roger Taylor are teaming up once more with longtime frontman Adam Lambert and returning to Australia in February 2020 for 6 giant stadium shows with a brand-new, spectacular production.

Announcing their Rhapsody Tour of Australia Roger Taylor said: “We are ready for Australia and raring to get back with our new show.”

“This is a great opportunity. Our last tour featured our most ambitious production ever and got us our best notices ever. So we decided to rip it apart and get even more ambitious,” Brian May added

Produced in Australia by TEG Dainty, the epic 6 date Rhapsody Tour is set to run from February 13 to February 29, 2020 with an all-new stadium concert experience, the tour dates are:

Thursday 13 February – Brisbane – Suncorp Stadium Saturday 15 February – Sydney –  ANZ Stadium Wednesday 19 February  – Melbourne –  AAMI Park Sunday 23 February – Perth –  Optus Stadium Wednesday 26 February – Adelaide – Adelaide Oval Saturday 29 February – Gold Coast –  Metricon Stadium

Tickets go on sale from www.ticketek.com.au on Monday 15 April with staggered on sale times from 10.30am AEST. A Telstra Thanks presale starts Wednesday 10 April, with staggered times from 9.30am AEST and is open until Friday 12 April. Go to www.telstra.com/queen for further details including local market times.

The Rhapsody Tour will debut a brand new larger-than-life production. Set designer Ric Lipson says: “Queen + Adam Lambert’s Rhapsody tour will, once again for them, expand the parameters of what a live music experience can be. This new show promises to be their most spectacular yet, an innovative and interactive celebration of the continued power of Queen’s music.”

Since Adam Lambert first shared the stage with Queen for the 2009 American Idol final, his dynamic performances have reinvigorated the band and delighted fans worldwide. Their first full show thrilled a half-a-million-strong crowd in the Ukraine capital city of Kiev in June 2012. Since then May and Taylor’s musical fireworks have been matched by Lambert’s vocal prowess and stage presence, making for an explosive combination. Over 180 gigs later, the partnership has proven a commercial and critical triumph, playing to enraptured full houses in every corner of the world.

Completing the tour line-up are long-term collaborator Spike Edney on keyboards, Neil Fairclough on bass, and Tyler Warren on percussion.

Then along came 20th Century Fox’s Bohemian Rhapsody. The movie has topped the cinema box office in more than 35 countries around the world since its late October release, drawing worldwide box office receipts approaching $900 million. The excitement the film inspired also saw Queen propelled back on to the music charts, where they hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Artist 100 Chart, reminding fans why they loved them and dazzling the previously-uninitiated. ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is officially the world’s most-streamed song from the 20th Century.  Indicative of Australia’s enduring passion for Queen – the Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack spent four weeks at #1 on the ARIA chart and now enjoys Platinum status.  Queen additionally achieved the rare feat of boasting three separate albums in the ARIA Top 5 – for five weeks this year.

When Freddie sang The Show Must Go On all those years back, even he couldn’t have guessed that Queen music would still be thrilling audiences. Next summer, the stadium stages of Australia will be well and truly rocked again.

The Australia dates are expected to be part of a wider tour of the region taking in also several East Asia dates.

Tickets for the RHAPSODY tour go on sale on Monday 15 April with staggered on sale times from 10.30am AEST.  Check www.queenonline.com and www.tegdainty.com  for more tour information.

Queen Camilla 'afraid' King Charles is 'doing too much' as monarch's cancer battle continues

K ing Charles has been told to "slow down" with his public engagements by Queen Camilla, a source has claimed, as he gears up for a hectic summer - as well as a round-the-world tour to Australia.

With the King still undergoing treatment for his cancer, Buckingham Palace had confirmed earlier this year that his summer programme would be reeled in to allow for a stronger recovery.

And the Palace has previously indicated that Charles's doctors have been "very encouraged" and "sufficiently pleased" about the King's progress.

But regardless of his recovery, the King has weathered a busy slate of engagements over the last few weeks, with Royal Ascot and Trooping the Colour among his most high-profile public appearances.

And in response, the Queen has urged her husband of 19 years to settle down somewhat, raising concerns over burnout and exhaustion - both of which could impede upon his remarkable recovery thus far at the age of 75.

A friend of Camilla told the Daily Beast: "She has been trying to encourage him to slow down.

"Of course, he wants to keep cracking on, but she is afraid that doing too much could set him back."

The revelation follows the news that the rumoured cancellation of King Charles's trip to New Zealand as part of a Commonwealth tour later this year has left the King with "great regret".

・ King Charles health update: Queen Camilla gives rare insight ahead of Trooping the Colour

Charles is still expected to travel halfway round the globe to visit Australia and Samoa for a Commonwealth summit in October, but additional legs of the trip to fellow South Pacific states New Zealand and Fiji had reportedly been canned as the 75-year-old monarch continues his treatment for the illness.

The Australian segment of the official visit is believed to have been cut down to just six days, but the King believes visiting the country is "non-negotiable", owing to its political atmosphere - "considerable popular antipathy" to the monarchy, according to some.

The King and Queen will face a race against the clock to adjust to the time difference in Australia - but are due to take a two-day break before the royal couple arrive in Samoa for three days in order to attend the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM 2024).

Another source told the outlet: "To go there when he is being treated for cancer wasn't what he planned - but you could hardly think of a better way of letting Australians know how important they are to the crown."

Of course, the King isn't the only royal to be facing down disruption to their summer schedules over cancer diagnoses.

As the Princess of Wales continues her own treatment, Wimbledon chiefs have admitted they "don't know" who will present trophies at this year's tennis tournament.

With just days remaining until the championships get underway, All England Club chair Deborah Jevans said organisers would consider what to do "nearer the time if necessary" as Kate returns to public duties after months on the sidelines battling the illness.

Jevans told Telegraph Sport: "We're hopeful that the Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as the Club's patron, but her health and recovery is the priority."

Say 'Geronimo,' Music City: Australian sibling pop band Sheppard takes on Nashville

queen band tour of australia

When Australian sibling band Sheppard decided to make the move from Australia to America, they knew it wouldn't be easy.

They'd be trading their loyal Australian fan base for a hard reset in Nashville, leaving family behind and much of their crew. But the "Geronimo" hitmakers were in for the challenge and moved to Music City six months ago.

"We wanted to give the new album as much of a chance to get worked around the states as possible, especially after COVID," singer George Sheppard said.

"When the world felt like it was locked down, we couldn't tour ... it was essentially like releasing an album into a void last time we did it," he said, adding that he thought that album was the best he and sisters Amy, vocals, and Emma, bass, had created up to that point.

The indie pop band, known for songs "Geronimo," "Coming Home" and "Learning To Fly," released its third album "Kaleidoscope Eyes" in 2021 after 2018's "Watching The Sky" and 2015's debut album "Bombs Away." They felt like their third album, due to timing and circumstance, fell flat.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

And though the band is from Brisbane, Australia, its biggest listenership is here in America, leading its members to feel pulled away from the Outback.

So how did the band decide on Music City as its next destination?

Emma, Amy and George Sheppard sat down in the Gulch with The Tennessean to discuss.

Sheppard band settles into Nashville, gears up for tour

The band formed as a family pop trio back in 2009, releasing their first album together in 2015.

And after Sheppard began to take off, Amy Sheppard started to work on a side project.

"I loved country music from a really young age," Amy Sheppard said. "But Sheppard happened naturally and pop music took off, so that's the kind of direction I went in ... but I always had an itch to get into country."

After attending a country music festival in Brisbane, Amy Sheppard was blown away by the songwriting and thought to herself: "Oh, I'm an idiot if I don't at least just try and write a country song."

She visited Nashville in 2019 after always wanting to come to the city but missing it on tours. She wrote a country music EP in 2022 called "Nothing But Wild," all the while falling in love with Music City.

"I came back, I was like, 'Oh, my God, we're moving to Nashville. It's the most amazing city I've ever been to,'" she said.

Australia also has a big country music market, so Amy Sheppard found herself transitioning from one country music city to the next. Being in a pop trio in two country music cities, though, is a different game.

"In Australia, the country music scene was always super welcoming to Sheppard," George Sheppard said. The band has opened for Keith Urban and a plethora of other country artists.

"Our style of music feels like it could be country music, if you just produced it that way ... the storytelling and the songwriting and the lyrical content and the structure of the songs. It leans into the country spirit a little bit," he said, adding that Sheppard is speaking a similar "musical language" as country artists.

The band has felt just as at home in the Nashville music scene.

They've performed at a Nashville Predators game, played a Whiskey Jam and even performed a couple sets at CMA Fest. (They've also brought along Nashville guitarist and "Nashville Briefing" founder Zak Kuhn as an interim guitarist for some of the band's American shows).

"America maybe has a different appreciation for all types of music, which is nice," Emma Sheppard said.

"I think there's a new wave of pop songwriters, and all sorts of different music coming through Nashville. It's not just a country scene anymore," George Sheppard added. "And we felt nothing but welcome."

When it comes to what the band left behind in Australia, they miss the beach, ocean, family, food, coffee (which they said is superb over there) and their devoted Australian fan base.

So far in Nashville, one of the biggest things that's thrown them for a loop is our weather. They've found themselves panicked by tornadoes, their watches and warnings — and surprised by how many times they've happened in the past few months.

"Oh my God! We freaked out because we've never been through that before," Emma Sheppard said about the first tornado warning, noting that it's happened four times now.

"We have bush fires and floods and venomous creatures and crocodiles and stuff (in Australia). But we don't have tornadoes. Those are the scariest things I've ever seen," George Sheppard added.

As a band, too, they've also navigated new challenges.

"I would say the not having a crew here, the restart (is the biggest challenge). Our managers are over in Australia, so we're pretty much like doing it on our own," Emma Sheppard said.

When they head out on tour again, they'll be driving across the country with no crew.

Amy Sheppard said it will be a challenge to go back to basics. "But we're really looking forward to building it up because we've done it before. We know that we've got a good show with more experience than ever before," she said.

Amy Sheppard is ready to hit the road again, showing new fans that "what we provide ... is happy, uplifting, energetic music."

Sheppard writes new album 'Zora' as ode to their grandmother

The band's fourth studio album, "Zora," released on June 21. The 16-track record is full of pop anthems with a shimmery, positive sound. The songs are upbeat, harmonious and feel-good. Listening to "Zora" is an instant mood-booster.

The band wrote the new album prior to moving to Nashville, crafting the record during writing sessions in Los Angeles, Sweden and Brisbane.

The trio also wrote a good amount of the album during the pandemic, capturing in song their frustrations about isolation during the lockdowns.

"There were some very dark times going on, and we essentially wrote this album as a piece of therapy for ourselves to give ourselves hope and know that the sun is coming back," George Sheppard said.

So they named the album "Zora," the Croatian word for "dawn."

But they also wanted to pay homage to their grandmother in the album, the siblings said.

On top of the pandemic, the family was dealing with something pretty heavy. They were trying to hold on to their sense of hope and felt themselves drawing from their grandmother's inner strength.

She moved away from Yugoslavia when she was 18, they said, fleeing a war-torn country and leaving her family behind. Later in life, she lost her husband to lung cancer. The trio said she always maintained optimism, despite the challenges she has been through.

"That was the inspiration for us writing the songs," George Sheppard said of their grandma. "And so at the end of it all, to honor our Croatian heritage, let's try and find out what 'dawn' is in Croatian," he said about trying to name the album. "We typed it into Google Translate, and it turned out to be her name: Zora."

That's right, the album name they picked out, the Croatian word for dawn, also happened to be their resilient grandmother's name too.

"That's a moment of serendipity. The name chose us, essentially ... the spirit of the album is dedicated to grandma," George Sheppard said.

At the end of the album, they even include a little snippet of a voicemail she left George.
