Sam Hunt Unveils 2023 Summer on the Outskirts Tour

Sam Hunt will hit the road in 2023. The superstar has announced his Summer on the Outskirts Tour, a 27-stop string of shows that launches on July 6 in Hartford, Ct., and continues into early September.

He's pairing his new tour with new music. Hunt will drop a new song called "Outskirts" on Friday (March 10), which is the same day tickets to the tour go on sale. That song — which lends its name to the tour — follows " Walmart ," which he released in February.

The singer has been sharing new songs here and there since late 2022: He closed out that year with another new ballad, " Start Nowhere, " and his current radio single is " Water Under the Bridge ." All of those tracks are new material since Hunt's last album, 2020's Southside .

In addition to new music, the star is bringing some superstar opening acts to his Summer on the Outskirts Tour. Brett Young will be on the bill, as will hot up-and-comer Lily Rose , who has joined Hunt on tour in the recent past.

Before the official on-sale date on Friday, tickets to the Summer on the Outskirts Tour will be available via a variety of pre-sales, including one for Verizon customers and another through Live Nation.

About Sam Hunt

Sam Hunt is a five-time GRAMMY-nominated, multi-Platinum-selling, award-winning hitmaker. His sophomore album SOUTHSIDE debuted to critical acclaim and was one of the top country albums of 2020 landing at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart. Named one of the Best Albums of the Year by The New York Times and US Weekly , the Platinum-selling project features 12 songs all written by Hunt including his No. 1 hits “Kinfolks,” “Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90’s,” one of NPR’s Best Songs of 2020 “Hard To Forget,” and his three-week No. 1, 9x Platinum-selling, GRAMMY-nominated smash, “Body Like A Back Road.” Hunt also wrote his recent eighth chart-topping hit, “23,” his latest radio staple “Water Under the Bridge,” and brand-new tracks, “Start Nowhere” and “Walmart.”

SOUTHSIDE follows Hunt’s GRAMMY-nominated, Triple-Platinum-selling debut album, MONTEVALLO, which also topped the Billboard Country Albums chart and produced four No. 1 singles. All ten tracks on MONTEVALLO are RIAA certified with seven achieving Platinum or Multi-Platinum status including “Leave the Night On,” “House Party,” “Take Your Time,” “Break Up In A Small Town,” “Speakers,” and “Make You Miss Me.”

Called “stylistically provocative” by The New York Times and “deceptively phenomenal” by The Washington Post , Hunt has received accolades from Associated Press, Billboard, Esquire, Entertainment Weekly, Los Angeles Times, NPR, Rolling Stone, SPIN Magazine, Village Voice, The New York Times, The Washington Post and more. Since MONTEVALLO’s 2014 release, Hunt has accumulated over 13 billion global streams and has earned 43 million RIAA certified units.

About Brett Young [Text Wrapping Break]Brett Young has captured the hearts of fans everywhere through his honest lyrics and West Coast-meets-Southern sound, aptly dubbed “Caliville” style. With an undeniable string of seven No. 1s – “In Case You Didn’t Know” (8X PLATINUM), “Mercy” (4X PLATINUM), “Sleep Without You” (PLATINUM) “Like I Loved You” (2X PLATINUM), “Here Tonight” (PLATINUM), “Catch” (PLATINUM) and “Lady” (PLATINUM) – and two albums defined by a transcendent romantic spark, he has cemented his status as Country’s master over matters of the heart. The star broadened his emotional scope on Weekends Look A Little Different These Days , the project features his current single that is climbing through the Top 15 on Country radio “ You Didn’t ” and “Lady,” whose lyrics inspired Young’s debut children’s book “Love You, Little Lady,” published by Tommy Nelson (an imprint of HarperCollins). Young previously debuted atop the Billboard Country Albums chart with his GOLD-certified Ticket To LA . while his PLATINUM self-titled debut dominated the Top 20 on the Country Albums chart for 37 weeks, all contributing to over 5.5 billion global streams. Young was named ASCAP’s 2018 Country Songwriter-Artist of the Year for his “melodic craftsmanship “ (Billboard) and has also garnered nominations from ACM, Billboard, Teen Choice, CMT and CMA Awards as he continues to rack up nonstop hits as “one of Country’s most consistent radio stars” (Rolling Stone) . Alongside Shay Mooney and Bear Rinehart, Young also penned “Long Way Home (From The Motion Picture ‘Father Stu’)” a song featured in the Sony Pictures film starring Academy Award Nominee® Mark Wahlberg. For tour dates and more, visit BrettYoungMusic.com .

About Lily Rose [Text Wrapping Break] Words like “groundbreaking” and “trailblazing” are often overused. But for Big Loud Records / Back Blocks Music and Republic Records Country star Lily Rose, they may actually be an understatement. The modern expression of Country’s most treasured ideal – pure, unflinching honesty – her debut hit “Villain” has revealed Rose as a talent both 100-percent unique and utterly relatable, with a fresh perspective and forward-looking sound. A Georgia native whose inspirations range from Bruce Springsteen to Keith Urban and Katy Perry, Rose broke out in 2020 with the viral smash, “Villain.” Both vulnerable and defiant with a boundary pushing Country-meets-R&B sound, the track hit No. 1 on the iTunes all-genre chart and SiriusXM’s The Highway Hot 30 Weekend Countdown, leading to her new, ten-song project, STRONGER THAN I AM . In 2022, Rose was nominated for ACM Best New Female Artist and recognized for Outstanding Breakthrough Artist at the 2022 GLAAD Media Awards. Rose kicked off 2023 with a headlining tour that featured sold-out shows in New York City, Philadelphia, and Boston and will join Shania Twain in the fall for 11-stops on her Queen of Me Tour. With her focus firmly on integrity, Rose’s bold mix of personal lyricism and distinctive language meets the hooky sonics of a post-genre fanbase, as pure-Country confessions merge with Hip-Hop beats and R&B flow – plus representation where there was none before. All told, it gives new credence to her “groundbreaking” label.

Sam Hunt Announces 2023 Summer on the Outskirts Tour

by Cillea Houghton March 6, 2023, 1:04 pm

Sam Hunt will spend his summer on the “outskirts.”

Videos by American Songwriter

On Monday (March 6), the hit country singer announced that he’s jet-setting across North America on the 2023 Summer on the Outskirts Tour. From July through September, Hunt and his opening acts, Brett Young and Lily Rose, will visit cities all over the U.S. and Canada over the course of 27 dates. Hunt will make stops in Boston, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, and Toronto.

The tour kicks off on July 6 in Hartford, Connecticut, and wraps on September 9 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday (March 10) at 10 a.m. local time. Visit Hunt’s website for a full list of dates.

The tour gets its name from Hunt’s new song, “Outskirts,” which will be released on March 10. He also revealed the cover art on his Instagram Stories .

“Pumped to be hitting the road with @samhuntmusic and @lilyrosemusic !” Young wrote on Instagram Stories .

“If you told me in 2015 that one day I’d be on tour with  @samhuntmusic  …I probably wouldn’t believe ya,” Rose shared alongside a throwback video of her performing an acoustic cover of Hunt’s “Ex to See,” a deep cut off his 2014 debut album, Montevallo. “Couldn’t be more excited for this summer with Sam and  @brettyoungmusic  !!”

“Outskirts” follows the release of “ Walmart ,” “ Start Nowhere ” and current single “ Water Under the Bridge .” The album’s lead single, “23,” became Hunt’s ninth No. 1 song. In December 2022, Hunt discussed his song “Start Somewhere” with American Songwriter , where he opened up about how his songwriting process has evolved.

“The things that historically have provided me with inspiration, I don’t connect with as much anymore,” he explained. “You have to look, you have to sit there, feel, think, and experience. So that’s what I’m feeling and thinking and experiencing, and those experiences are filtered through that: Being a father, and starting a family. I’m sure most of the songs—a lot of the songs going forward—will come from that inspiration.”

Hunt’s previous album, Southside, was released in 2020 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and No. 5 on the all-genre Billboard 200.

Sam Hunt New Album 2023: Release Date and Tracklist

By Maxim Mower

SAM HUNT NEW ALBUM 2023

Release date: tbc, possible title: outskirts, expected tracklist:.

  • Start Nowhere
  • Water Under The Bridge
  • Came The Closest
  • Don't Take God Away
  • Everything That Dies

Sam Hunt has long been dubbed the ‘Drake’ of country music, due to his laconic singing style, his direct, conversational lyrics and the rap-inspired instrumentals he so often embraces.

Another way in which Hunt can perhaps be likened to the Toronto Hip Hop star is in the unpredictability of his new releases.

Singles are often announced a matter of days before they drop, and Sam Hunt's album rollouts rarely follow a clear schedule or structure.

However, as Hunt releases yet another new single, the bittersweet ‘Outskirts’, we're starting to think he's readying a full-length album for later in the year.

In 2022, he confirmed that he's managed to get “a big chunk” of the project completed, so now he's hopefully just honing it.

‘Outskirts’ followed shortly after ‘Walmart’, both of which serve as the latest in a long line of one-off tracks that will presumably feature on the upcoming record.

The likes of ‘Start Nowhere’, ‘Water Under The Bridge’ and ‘23’ all follow in the sonic footsteps of Hunt's celebrated, genre-fusing 2020 album, Southside , which included his record-breaking hit single, ‘Body Like A Backroad’, along with fan-favourite tracks such as ‘Kinfolks’, ‘Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90s’ and ‘Hard To Forget’.

Alongside his string of singles, Sam Hunt has been teasing a suite of new songs, such as ‘Came The Closest’.

Hunt shared a snippet of the unreleased ballad back in 2021, and ever since, fans have been keenly awaiting news of when the Georgia native will finally make it available.

Joining ‘Came The Closest’ in Sam Hunt's coveted unreleased pile of demos is a track that is speculatively titled, ‘Everything That Dies’.

Hunt posted a clip of him performing the quietly hopeful song last summer, and we're hoping it too makes its way onto the tracklist of his new album.

Another unreleased snippet that we'd like to hear a full studio version of is ‘Don't Take God Away’.

Hunt teased the track with a vulnerable, acoustic rendition on his socials back in October, and given the emotional weight and vulnerability of its lyrics - something the ‘Take Your Time’ hitmaker never shies away from - it would surely serve as a stellar inclusion on Hunt's upcoming project.

Although we're still waiting on a confirmed title and release date for the new record, given the fact that Sam Hunt has named his 2023 tour after his recent single, ‘Outskirts’, we suspect this might be a hint as to the name of the upcoming project.

Sam Hunt is an American Country singer/songwriter originally from Georgia who has been active as a musician since 2011 and released his debut LP in 2014.

Sam Hunt originally began his career in the sporting world as a college quarterback however shortly after graduating he began to pursue songwriting. His commercial break came in 2012 when he penned Kenny Chesney's 'Come Over' which was recognised with an award from ASCAP. His music takes huge influence from Brad Paisley whilst the songwriter has also cited artists from various genres including Billy Currington, Usher and K-Ci and JoJo as inspiration.

In 2014 he decided to pursue his own music after an early EP appeared at #5 on the US Country charts and sold over 25,000 units. He followed this in October with his debut album 'Montevallo' which topped the US Country chart and peaked at #3 on the Billboard chart and has sold 125,000 units to date.

His first single 'Leave The Light On' was a momentous success for his label MCA. It topped the Country charts in both the US and Canada and peaked at #30 on the Billboard hot 100. It has sold over 800,000 copies since its release in 2014. Almost every one of the tracks on the album has charted on the Country chart despite not receiving an official single release, 'Break Up In A Small Town' has sold over 150,000 copies.

Live reviews

Starting out as a college football player, Sam Hunt made the transition to his singer/songwriter career only a few short years ago back in 2012 when he co-wrote Kenny Chesney’s single, Come Over. After receiving an award from this, he thought about performing his own material, and began writing music that he could play and accompany himself on the piano or guitar.

He opened his acoustic set with his single Raised On It, which was the first song he released as a single for himself. He accompanied himself in his acoustic guitar, and seeing him live really revealed what a talented musician he is, as he seemed to pluck and strum the instrument effortlessly, creating wonderful music. He had with him another guitarist, playing some intertwining harmonies, that really added to the ambience of his music.

He played through his mixtaped and EPs, as well as his singles from this years charts, Break Up in A Small Town, and House Party. These went down really well, and he got everyone in the audience singing along right away. He put on a fantastic show, and I was sad to see it end, but will definitely be seeing him again!

At a stature of 6 foot 3, it is pretty easy to see how Sam Hunt was originally destined for a career in football as he strides onto the stage. Many of his fans tonight will be very glad his sporting career did not take off as he may never have then turned to country music which he has an equally successful grasp of. Although he only released his debut in 2014, it was an instant hit in the US and Canada so his shows are already taking place on large stages yet this does not seem to phase Sam.

He has a fantastic down to earth mannerism and is one of the politest performers whilst playing. He is also very sincere as he passionately annunciates the lyrics on 'We Are Tonight'. The crowd goes absolutely wild at the finale of every single track and their dedication and adoration is clearly amusing to the unassuming performer who does not quite know how to tackle this as of yet. Simple thank yous followed by favourites such as 'Leave the Night On' and 'Take Your Time' seem to do the job perfectly tonight and he leaves the stage to yet more rapturous applause.

Sexy, talented and a gifted writer. Was great to see him in concert. Sadly we thought we had gotten there early enough to get a decent spot...wrong! 30 mins after doors open it was jammed! My least favorite part was what appears to be a 909 ghetto a-hole/ HB Bro following of fans. I've yet to be at a concert where these girls and GUYS were so rude pushy and just straight a-holes (got told F U to my face after some dude pushes me and steps on my foot) Never had that at a Downtown Disney concert. So it was interesting to see the large portion of this type of fan. This will make me be more mindful of the types of seats or venues when coming to see him. But of course not all bad, some classy country fans in the mix too

He was fantastic in concert !! Sounded exactly the same live and his energy and crowd participation was amazing! I will definitely go see him again soon. He took pictures with fans while performing as well as continued to have high energy despite horrendous south texas heat.

It was our first concert in USA. It was a gift from our cousins. We come from Italy, we were on holiday, it was amazing. We loved it! Wonderful voice. Big surprise. Now we listen to him in Italy. Great!

Great show. Sam managed to create an intimate feel while he talked about his musical journey to a sold out crowd at red rocks. There was a surprising variety in music and lots of energy!

Sam Hunt shares how he created his ‘Locked Up’ EP and how his music is changing with his life. He highlights how “Outskirts” has blown up during his tour, new country artists and more!

I don’t know about that. Maybe if Keith and I both two-on-one the kangaroo, we might be able to take him. I didn’t learn any skills while I was locked up.

Tetris Kelly:

We caught up with Sam Hunt about his ‘Locked Up’ EP and tour and the newer country artists that even he’s nervous to be in front of.

Sam Hunt:

The four songs are put together on an EP, but they really are part of a project I’ve been putting out for about two years now. One song at a time.

Tetris Kelly:

How is the ‘Locked Up’ EP different from your past work? What makes this creative process special?

They reflect this season of my life that I’ve been in. Getting older and writing from different perspectives now than I did early on. When you’re finished with the project. You’re always looking forward to that next one. So I’m already on to the next one in my mind, but I’m happy that these songs are out.

You can’t be there yet, you just put the EP out! And with “Outskirts” being a top five hit on country radio, how has Sam been loving it on tour?

It’s been great. It’s really been fun to watch. You know, we get our die-hard fans who know about the songs when they come out and they’ll sing the songs back at the live show. And then you hear the response grow when the song at radio has success.

Keep watching to learn more!

Sam Thompson  has revealed he’s been in hospital with a concerning photo posted to Instagram .

The Made In Chelsea  star, who was crowned King of the Jungle in 2023 , shared an image of an IV in his arm to his story, captioning the post ‘Not had the best Bank Holiday weekend.’

He followed up the post with another, since deleted, that explained that he was in hospital because he’s been trying to do so many things at once and it ‘caught up with him.’

While it’s unclear what affliction Thompson is suffering from, he seems to imply that exhaustion is at least a part of the equation.

The TV star is fresh off a hectic UK tour with his  podcast  co-host, The Only Way is Essex  star Pete Wicks , in April for their Staying Relevant Tour.

Thompson has also officially joined the voice cast of the sequel to one of  Disney  Pixar’s most beloved films: Inside Out 2.

Sam Thompson Instagram post about being in hospital

Thompson recently revealed that he’s been cast in one of the most anticipated sequels of the year , which also stars Amy Poehler ,  Maya Hawke , and Kyle MacLachlan.

He’s set to voice a new character, Security Man Sam, who joins up with Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, as well as new emotions Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment.

A statement from Thompson made it clear that he’s delighted to have a chance to appear in the film.

‘Having watched Pixar films since I was a kid, it’s a dream come true to join the voice cast of Inside Out 2. The film nods to the rollercoaster of emotions growing up and what a wild ride your teenage years can be.’

He continued: ‘I for one can’t wait to see my family’s reaction to hearing my voice on the big screen.’

Thompson, who has been in a relationship with Love Island and Strictly Come Dancing star Zara McDermott, has mostly spent his career on the British reality TV circuit, so the role is a new step for him.

Ever since the discovery of whale songs almost 60 years ago, scientists have been trying to decipher the lyrics.

But sperm whales don’t produce the eerie melodies sung by humpback whales, sounds that became a sensation in the 1960s. Instead, sperm whales rattle off clicks that sound like a cross between Morse code and a creaking door. Carl Zimmer, a science reporter, explains why it’s possible that the whales are communicating in a complex language.
