Scotland History Tours

Hi, my name is Bruce. For years I worked as a teacher, then as a stand-up comedian performing shows about Scottish history and culture. In 2017 I decided to take what I’ve learned to show you the country I have loved and lived in all my life.

I'd like to show you the magical and mysterious places that make Scotland famous. I'd love to tell you about the people who lived there and made Scotland’s history. I would be delighted to take you round my home of Perthshire and show you Scotland’s story in one county.

If you’ve never come across me before I suggest you have a look at some of my videos to get a feel for whether you’d enjoy spending a day with me.

Just tell me what you’re looking for: distilleries, castles, battle sites, settings from Outlander, scenic views and delightful picnic areas, places associated with figures from history, or a visit to your ancestral home.

There are options to climb Dunsinnane Hill to the site of Macbeth’s hillfort or visit Scotland’s oldest lending library to see the books that inspired Shakespeare to write the story, or to visit Glamis Castle to discover how Shakespeare wrongly placed it in Inverness, how Glamis is linked to the real Macbeth and how the story continues to this day. Very enjoyable day touring Perthshire and learning that I really don't know that much about Scotland's history at all. Bruce's knowledge is vast and he delivers it in a very enthusiastic way. If you want to know more about Scotland I thoroughly recommend spending a day on one of these tours !

Scotland History Tour

Spent a freezing cold day with Bruce yesterday but it was worth it. Amazing amount of knowledge. Great fun and great company. Well worth a trip. Thanks for the humorous insight into history.

Karen Kettles

The trip was great. Interesting activities (boat trip and tour around castle etc), coffee and lunch stops, as well as taking in some beautiful scenery in comfort. Historic stories with a twist of Bruce humour. I think it's a winner !!!!

Bruce is the Best

On our recent visit to Scotland, we wanted to visit the Highlands but decided we'd have a better experience with a tour rather than going on our own. We researched and communicated with a few of the more popular group tours and, while they offered an attractive product, there were too many stops that we would only get to look at, not actually explore. Nope, not what we wanted. Then we stumbled on Bruce and the Scotland History Tours. With Bruce's help, we got to experience everything we wanted and then some! We traveled in comfort and he picked us up at our hotel and dropped us off on our return to Edinburgh. He even took us to off-the-beaten-path locales that we would never have known about and shared special Scottish treats with us. His knowledge of Scottish history really brought our tour to life as well. He used both that knowledge and a brilliant sense of humor to make our two days with him one of our most memorable travel experiences! We'd highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a unique tour beyond compare of any others.

Bruce did an excellent job of trying to fit in everything on my impossible list! He definitely had his work cut out for him. He was even so kind as to line up another guide for the days he was already busy. Bruce takes great pride in his tours and is a wealth of knowledge of Scottish history. I would recommend him to anyone. It’s the best way to see Scotland and enjoy the scenery without having to worry about driving yourself around. He was also a great sounding board for deciding where to stay and what attractions were worth seeing.

I contacted Bruce for a tour. When he realized that our group was a bit too large for his vehicle, he got us in touch with another tour company, set up the full tour, booked the distilleries, and did it all for no payment . In this day and age that’s incredible service.

Shhhhhhh, everyone will want it.

Bruce is enormously well informed and spikes up the good, the bold and the beautiful with a twinkle in his eye and many a hearty laugh. With the energy of ten kelpies, Bruce would have you believe the world begins and ends in Scotland. He makes you remember the glorious Scottish poetry of your schooldays – Lochinvar and Lord Ullin’s Daughter – and (almost )has you believe Macbeth to be an English play, not a Scottish one. The trip we took included, among other gorgeous treats, a boat ride to where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned and to the coronation site of Scottish kings. You don’t need to miss this trip in fair or foul weather!

Bruce is an amazing guide! We spent 4 days with him traveling through the highlands and loved it. He really listened to what we were interested in and tailored each day to what we were interested in seeing. He is extremely knowledgeable and presents the information in an entertaining and interesting way. Our only wish is that we had more time to spend exploring Scotland with him! We definitely recommend him to anyone who is looking for a personalized experience of a lifetime.

My husband and I were looking for a day in Skye and Bruce was just the perfect guy. From helping with setting up the schedule to the constant attention during the tour. He tried his best to make our day fun and comfortable despite of the rain. Suggesting alternative destinations when the weather didn’t allow us to proceed as planned. Everything was great! He knows the region and it’s history very well, which makes the experience even richer! Not to mention he is a very fun guy! Bruce will definitely be our guide on our next tour to Scotland! Strongly recommended!

Hands down the best tour I've ever been on. Bruce is incredibly knowledgeable about Scottish history, and we felt like we learned more about Scotland in one day than we had in a week with, ahem, another tour company. We chose a bespoke tour, because my friend was visiting from the States and wanted to see Stirling Castle, Bannockburn, Rosslyn Chapel, Midhope Castle, Doune Castle and a few other sights along the way. We both soaked up his narratives and loved the way he wove the rich history into an entertaining story format. If you are really interested in Scottish history, culture and people, this is so worth it! I'd go on another tour with him in a heartbeat.

I have traveled all over the world (I'm a flight attendant) and my recent trip to the Scottish Highlands, was one of my most memorable and enjoyable vacations to date. On a Sunday morning, Bruce picked us up at our B&B in Edinburgh, and we set off on our journey. We felt very stylish and comfortable in Bruce's clean and cool Land Rover. We opted for the Bespoke tour and took a great route as we made our way North. We stopped to take pictures at the Kelpies monument in Falkirk and viewed the stunning Sterling Castle. We stopped for tea and scones and walked around the gorgeous Loch Lomond. I know I am abusing adjectives in this review, but one can only describe this region as beautiful, pretty, breathtaking, etc. Our group talked, laughed, and discussed the history of Scotland as we drove up to Glencoe, Fort William, and Loch Ness. At the end of our first day, we had a wonderful dinner and a fun night in the pubs in Inverness where we stayed for the night. The next day Bruce drove us to Urquhart Castle and then on to a whiskey tasting in Forres before we caught our train in Aberdeen back to Edinburgh. The pictures don't do the beauty of the highlands the justice it deserves. If you are in Scotland PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do yourself a huge favor and book a tour with Bruce. He is smart and has a knowledge and passion for his homeland that makes you wish you were born Scottish! Did I mention funny? He is a stand-up comedian, so you'll never be bored if your riding alongside him on your tour. He was patient as we asked for pictures and answered our questions with enthusiasm. No doubt, Bruce will make your travels through the highlands 100% better. Thank you, Bruce! We'll be back.

Bruce Telford is the #1 guide for the Scottish Highlands. He will pick up in his beautiful Land Rover, dressed to the kilt. Then off we went on a 12 hour magical mystery tour of the lochs, the hills, the villages. Bruce is incredibly knowledgeable and a lot of fun, and a great driver on those winding roads.I wanted to see the Loch Ness monster, and at least we made the effort even if "Nessie" wasn't obviously available! Bruce is worthy every penny, this is the way to go and not on a bus tour. Five stars doesn't say enough!
