Tauck Partners with Luxury Cruise Line for Cruises to Canada

For those who prefer a luxury small ship ocean cruise experience but don’t want to travel thousands of miles to do it, Tauck Canada and New England cruises are perfect.

Tauck will begin small ship ocean cruises between New York City and Quebec City aboard the Silversea small ship Silver Shadow starting in Fall 2023. This is the company’s newest foray into cruising North America and continuing its partnership with Silversea.

Tauck Canada and New England Cruises

Tauck’s newest itinerary is a 13-day “Shores of Eastern Canada and New England” cruise. In total, there will be three Manhattan to Quebec City cruises plus three southbound reversals in September and October of 2023.

The new Tauck Canada New England cruises begin with an included overnight hotel stay at the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square. The next day is a guided sightseeing tour in Manhattan.

Embarkation for Silver Shadow is in the afternoon and then begins the 10-night cruise to Quebec City. Along the voyage, ports of call include: Newport, Rhode Island; Boston, Mass.; Bar Harbor, Maine; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; and Saguenay, Quebec before arriving in Quebec City.

In Quebec City, passengers are treated to a city sightseeing excursion followed by a tour to the pastoral island Ile d’Orleans and to see stunning Montmorency Falls. After checking in at Quebec City’s famous Chateau Frontenac for one night, Tauck will hold a farewell reception and dinner.

You'll stay here, at Hotel Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City on a Tauck Canada New England cruise.

Why Cruise with Tauck?

Although Tauck’s guests will be sharing time aboard Silver Shadow with Silversea’s non-Tauck passengers, the Tauck guests will enjoy a markedly different experience.

According to CEO Mahar, “Silversea does an incredible job, and we’re thrilled to partner with them on this journey,” said Mahar, “yet we like to think we’re bringing something extra to the table for our Tauck guests. “We take great pride in our ability to reveal the culture and history of a destination, and each of our shore excursions are Tauck-exclusive experiences typically led by our local guides in tandem with our own Tauck Director guides.”

What’s different is that the Tauck Canada New England cruise package includes hotel stays and sightseeing in Manhattan and Quebec City in its pricing.

In addition, Tauck offers 100% of its shore excursions at no additional charge. Silversea includes only a selection of shore excursions in its prices.

Tauck’s shore excursions are designed and operated exclusively by the company, and Tauck Director Guides also see to the onboard and onshore needs of Tauck’s guests throughout the trip, added Mahar.

Great Lakes Cruises from Chicago to Toronto

Currently, Tauck offers their “Cruising the Great Lakes:  Chicago to Toronto” itinerary. After a full day and night in Chicago, the small ship heads for Milwaukee, Wisconsin before crossing Lake Michigan to the Holland and Saugatuck area in Michigan.

From there, the ship heads north to Traverse City, a full day at Mackinac Island, then southbound on Lake Huron to Detroit, Michigan. An amazing passage through the Welland Canal leads into Lake Erie until reaching Toronto.

And there’s still time for a visit to Niagara Falls and an overnight in Toronto before ending the cruise.

North to Alaska

Unknown to quite a few people who want a small ship cruise to Alaska and time to explore the heart of Alaska, Tauck has two options. The first Alaska cruise option is a 10-day one-way between Vancouver, B.C. and Anchorage, AK, or reverse.

The second option begins in Anchorage with 5 days to explore the heart of Alaska before boarding your ship for the southbound voyage to Vancover, B.C.

The new Tauck Canada New England cruises expands the company’s footprint into more of North America, in addition to their already-popular luxury land tours.

Explore the park after spending the morning at leisure, taking note of its fragile ecosystem and gentle beauty. Continue on to the fishing village of North Rustico Harbour to see its iconic lighthouse and scenic views, embodying a way of life that has flourished on the island since 1790.

Step back in time on a visit to Green Gables Heritage Place, the site of the home and farm that inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery’s literary masterpiece, Anne of Green Gables. Go inside “Anne’s” home and view rooms set up as they were described by the author. Stroll the grounds to learn more about rural life in the early 20th century, before savoring a taste of island life at a local restaurant renowned for its lobster dishes.

Cape Breton Island & Bras d'or Lake Location Information Description

Cape Breton Island, Canada

Ferry to mainland Nova Scotia, where you’ll drive over a causeway to Cape Breton Island. Known to the French as "Isle Royale," this island changed hands between colonial powers several times, creating a unique culture that blends Acadian and Gaelic traditions. Journey through a dramatic landscape that echoes the Highlands and the great shoreline cliffs of Brittany in France; enjoy some panoramic views of the Canso Causeway at lunch today.

Ingonish, Canada

Travel along the coast of Bras d'Or Lake, which is an inland sea ringed with cliffs and rolling mountains – it's a favorite fishing spot for bald eagles. Drive north to Ingonish and the Keltic Lodge, nestled on a cliff surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. The setting for your three-night stay is picturesque, remote, dramatic – and wildly beautiful.

KELTIC LODGE

A day as you please at Ingonish Beach Location Information Description

Your day begins with a presentation by a naturalist who educates you on the indigenous wildlife, then the remainder of the day is spent as you please at your lodge at Ingonish Beach. You may join us for an optional afternoon “walkabout” that spotlights the fascinating history and spectacular setting of the lodge. Or, there are a variety of optional activities at the historic lodge (some at an additional cost), including links golf, tennis, and whale watching; hike the beach or the nature trail, or perhaps enjoy some time at the spa.

Prior to dinner this evening you’ll get a good “taste” of what Nova Scotia cuisine is all about at a cooking demonstration; of particular note is the unique “oyster shucking” as demonstrated by a local resident.

The beauty of the Cabot Trail & more Location Information Description

Experience breathtaking coastal landscapes on the Cabot Trail, a serpentine highway that is one of the world’s most exciting and scenic drives. The winding road is carved into the side of mountains along unforgettable ocean vistas, ascending to the plateaus of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Drive through a landscape rich in rugged barrens, waterfalls, cliffs, and panoramic views of canyons, highlands, and seacoast. Photo stops in Acadian fishing communities lead the way to a rug hooking museum, a showcase for “talking” rugs that speak volumes about a pioneer art that was grown from seed and quietly discloses the trials and tribulations of the women who challenged the wilderness with their families and settled in new frontiers.

Then stop in Chéticamp, an Acadian fishing community on Cape Breton Island, for lunch and a taste of their long-cherished cultural heritage. Return along the Cabot Trail to the Keltic Lodge where this evening you’ll take part in a unique, lively Cape Breton tradition – a “kitchen party” featuring local cuisine, regional spirits, tastings, and Celtic music.

Gaelic Culture & Bell's Legacy in Baddeck Location Information Description

Baddeck, Canada

A highlight of this trip is today’s visit to the Gaelic College of Celtic Arts and Crafts at Englishtown, where you’ll learn about Nova Scotia’s Scottish Gaelic culture. Watch a kilt-making demonstration, and learn a little Gaelic – through song – while learning about the fabric milling tradition. Scottish inventor Alexander Graham Bell summered in Baddeck, Nova Scotia, after he and his family moved to Canada from Scotland, later setting up his laboratory in this picturesque village. Today’s tour of the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site includes a presentation chronicling Bell's life and work, and a guided tour through the museum's exhibits showcasing his inventions, from the telephone to ingenious kites, hydrofoils, airplanes and even the metal detector.

Liscomb, Canada

Have lunch at the Inverary Resort on Baddeck Bay and perhaps some free time before continuing on for an overnight at a lovely rustic resort tucked into a wooded setting overlooking the Liscomb River. A cooking demonstration shows you the secrets of making the perfect planked salmon, a specialty of the house at the Liscombe Lodge Resort; then join us for a farewell reception followed by dinner at the resort.

LISCOMBE LODGE RESORT & CONFERENCE CENTRE

Journey Home Location Information Description

Depart Liscombe Lodge Resort this morning and return to Halifax; travel along one of the most scenic drives in North America, stopping en route in Lake Charlotte to visit a general store that takes you back in time. Tour ends at Halifax International Airport at 12:00 noon. Fly home anytime after 1:30 PM. For guests wishing to extend their stay in Halifax, Tauck can arrange additional nights at The Prince George Hotel; a transfer to Halifax International Airport is included for these bookings. Allow a minimum of two hours for check-in.

  • All rates listed are per person based on double occupancy and are subject to change without notice. Your land package pricing will be confirmed and guaranteed once your deposit is received and applied to the booking, except where price increases may result from increases in government taxes or fees. Room configurations are subject to availability. Guests added to your party after the booking are priced at the prevailing rate at the time they are added.
  • The islands featured on Tauck’s Canadian Maritimes trip, particularly Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, are some of the most scenic – yet remote – destinations in Canada. The hotels included on this trip, such as the Keltic Lodge and Liscombe Lodge, were primarily selected for their location; they put guests right in the heart of the best places to visit. Seasonal travel in the Canadian Maritimes means that a few of your accommodations on this trip will not compare to Tauck’s hotels in other locations. We find – and expect you will find – that these hotels provide exceptional access to remote scenic treasures of the Maritimes, despite a few inconsistencies with the standards of other Tauck accommodations.
  • Reserve your preferred 2020 departure date and we will advise you once the 2020 trip is finalized and priced. You will then have two weeks to cancel; should you cancel, you'll receive a full refund of your trip deposit and the cost of the Travel Protection Product (if purchased with Tauck Tours). If you are making your own air arrangements, do not book your flights until this trip is finalized as start and end cities may change.

  • Travel Delay –  Provides reimbursement for missed, prepaid travel arrangements if you are delayed by a common carrier, natural disaster, unannounced strike, or other reasons as cited in the plan.
  • Medical Expense –  Reimburses covered medical expenses incurred in the event you become injured or sick during your trip.
  • Baggage / Personal Effects Protection –  Provides reimbursement in the event your luggage or personal effects are, lost, stolen, damaged or delayed during your trip.
  • Worldwide Emergency Assistance Services –  Provided by Carefree Travel Assistance; 24-hour emergency telephone assistance hotline for medical and travel related problems.

Enhanced Covid Health Protocols

Tauck Care and Global Response

Keeping our guests safe and secure has always been of paramount importance at Tauck. While we cannot predict or prevent events outside of our control, we have learned to expect the unexpected. In fact, we've planned for it and have safeguards, protocols and teams in place to deal with any eventualities. You'll travel with a comprehensive, built-in support system that starts with the care and local knowledge of our Tauck Directors and extends to our network of partners around the world, including hoteliers and transportation companies.

Our Global Response Team stands ready to respond to situations around the world. Over the past two decades, they have successfully led us through a variety of challenges around the world, from weather events, high and low water on rivers, work stoppages and more. We are well prepared for Covid. We provide assurance and comfort in knowing that help is readily available if and when it's ever needed.

Land Journeys:

Tauck has worked closely with our supplier partners around the world to deliver the comfort and safety you expect. The following are just some of the enhanced protocols we have put in place for Covid to provide you with the peace of mind you expect:

We are limiting guests numbers across all of our journeys

• Upon arrival, health questionnaires and temperature checks may be required

• Guest can expect to wear face coverings in group settings and when mandated by our suppliers and governments

•  Proper physical distancing will be implemented on motor coaches, during dining and sightseeing

•  High-touch areas in hotels and on-tour transportation, including motor coaches, will undergo enhanced cleaning

These protocols may vary by destination and will evolve over time. Please check for the latest updates at tauck.com/travel-updates

Air Information and Luggage Restrictions

AIRFARE: Airfare to and from this destination is not included in the journey cost. If purchasing your air elsewhere, it is very important to provide us with your confirmed arriving and departing flight information no later than 3 weeks before your arrival date. Flight information can be submitted to Tauck (or verified, if you've already provided it) in the My Account section of Tauck.com.

TAUCK AIRPORT TRANSFERS are included at the start and end of the journey between the airport and the Tauck hotel. Airport transfers are available for any pre tour or post tour hotel stays immediately consecutive to the tour, providing flight information is received in the Tauck office no later than three weeks in advance. Details on locating your transfer upon arrival to the tour start city will be included in your final documents.

AIRLINES and CHECKED LUGGAGE: Due to space limitations during your Tauck journey, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one average-size suitcase per person. Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and are free to revise luggage policies without notice. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies. PLEASE NOTE that if you are booked on a tour that includes on-tour flights, the checked luggage weight restrictions for these flights may be lower than the weight restrictions for your international flights.

Specific Luggage Restrictions for this Tour

Due to strictly enforced weight restrictions, checked luggage weight must not exceed 50 pounds (23 kg) and with overall dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 62 inches (158 cm). Luggage exceeding the allowable weight is subject to excess luggage charges which can result in a considerable additional expense. Guests are permitted to only 1 piece of checked luggage. Hand luggage may not weigh more than 15 lbs (6.8 kg), and the maximum dimensions are 20 x 15 x 10" (50.8 x 38.1 x 25.4cm) (including all wheels, handles, etc). If these dimensions are exceeded, the carry-on may be checked at the gate. Airport regulations require that passengers handle their own luggage through customs.

Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and luggage exceeding airline standards for size or weight may result in expensive overage fees or other consequences.

Airlines are free to revise luggage policies without notice, and certain airlines have different baggage allowances for different classes of service. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies.

For your day-to-day travel while on tour, we recommend that you limit your hand luggage to a small, soft-sided carry-on piece, and that you bring only those items you need handy during the day such as make-up, medications, cameras, film, etc. Items too large to fit under the motor coach seat or on the overhead rack must be stored in the luggage bays beneath the motor coach, and may be inaccessible during daytime travel.

Tauck luggage tags will be provided by your Tauck Director on Day 1 of your itinerary. Please do not attach a Tauck luggage tag to any carry-on items, as the Tauck tags designate luggage that is to be handled and transferred by ground operators and hotel staff during your journey.

Health, Safety and Mobility

HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS

If you have a medical condition that might limit your participation in activities, please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice and notify us as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. We will advise your Tauck Director accordingly.

Please check with your health insurance provider to determine whether you are covered while traveling. If you will not be covered under your current policy, we strongly suggest that you arrange for adequate coverage while on tour.

VACCINATIONS

If you are a resident of the U.S. traveling internationally,  no vaccinations are currently required for entry into Australia; however, an International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever is required when entering Australia if you arrive from an infected area within 5 days. For complete vaccination information, contact your physician, the public health service in your area, or the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. You may also log on to the CDC Internet website by clicking here .

If you are a resident of another country traveling internationally , please contact an embassy or consulate of Australia to determine what vaccinations may be required for your travel.

You should be in good health and able to walk moderate to significant distances over varied terrain. Some of the most memorable sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot. Pack sturdy, comfortable walking shoes that have already been broken-in in order to appreciate fully the challenging terrain of the beaches, rainforests and outback.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE ON SUPPLEMENTAL OXYGEN AND MOBILITY ISSUES: This Tauck itinerary cannot accommodate oxygen tanks, wheelchairs or motorized scooters. Oxygen tanks are strictly prohibited in many foreign countries on regional flights aboard small aircraft, such as those intra-tour flights featured on this Tauck journey.  Likewise, the very limited cargo capacity on such flights prohibits the transport of wheelchairs or motorized scooters.

Guests should also bear in mind that the infrastructure in many foreign countries, particularly in developing countries, often presents severe and even insurmountable challenges for those with walking difficulties or other mobility issues. The responsibility of the Tauck Director is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one guest.  Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it.

SPECIAL DIETARY REQUESTS

The restaurants, hotels, caterers and numerous other partners we work with all do their best to accommodate special dietary requests from Tauck guests. However, given the diverse nature of those food providers (from small wineries to grand hotels to world-famous restaurants in more than 70 countries worldwide), some of our partners are better able than others to accommodate such requests. We therefore cannot guarantee that all dietary requests can be accommodated at every meal. Also, please note that where dietary requests can be accommodated, choices will frequently be limited.

Airline Disinsection

Please check with your carrier or the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) guidance letter that requires airlines and travel agents to disclose to consumers countries that require the use of insecticides by airlines. Please click  here for more information.

Weather and Travel Gear

The seasons in Australia are opposite of those in the northern hemisphere. During the months of October through May, temperatures typically average 70-90 ºF (21-32 ºC) in Australia. During the months of June through September, temperatures average 40-60 ºF (4-16 ºC) in Australia. In Northern Australia, you will find tropical weather all year round.

To determine current weather conditions, we suggest you log on to the Internet website, noaa.gov , by clicking here.

THERE'S A WHOLE big world out there. With only so much time to explore it—even less if we're talking just vacation time—where do you go? Distinctively Inclusive

Discover the all-inclusive value of the Tauck River Cruising experience... with one upfront price and virtually every river cruise expense included

Distinctively Inclusive

You Get What You Pay For... And Then Some...

When Arthur Tauck Sr. founded our travel company in 1925, he made a promise to our guests: to include virtually every vacation expense in one upfront price so that everyone could have a great time without any worries – a revolutionary idea at the time. Today you'll find other river cruises that are all-inclusive, but as our guests have discovered, it's the quality of Tauck's experiences that make all the difference.

If it means a better river cruising experience, we include it – aboard and ashore. Exclusive cultural experiences. All shore excursions. Superb accommodations. All gratuities. Entertainment, admissions, tastings, on-tour transportation, transfers upon arrival and departure, the services of our professional Tauck Directors – are all covered in one upfront price. And no options are sold, ever.

Our riverboats are custom-crafted to our uncompromising high standards for comfort, spaciousness and elegance, and you can count on impeccable personal service from ship to shore, with every detail seamlessly taken care of for you. Meals are freshly prepared and regionally driven, both on the riverboat and at local restaurants. Complimentary beverages – from specialty coffee, tea, soft drinks and bottled water to house wine, beer and premium spirits – are included on the riverboats, all day, every day.

Cruising with Tauck, you'll go beyond the ordinary to discover what's extraordinary about the places you'll explore. We believe you should experience Europe as it was meant to be enjoyed – steeped in local culture, seasoned with regional traditions and flavored with fun.

No Option Sold. Ever.

  • All shore excursions are included along with virtually every river cruise expense in one upfront price
  • Shipboard accommodations and meals, and cultural entertainment onboard and ashore – all included
  • Onboard entertainment includes local dancers, singers, and musicians who share regional traditions
  • Gala evenings ashore delight with command performances and dinners in extraordinary venues
  • Land stays in accommodations at some of Europe's – and the world's – finest hotels
  • All gratuities to Tauck Directors & Cruise Director, ship staff, local guides and luggage handling included
  • Enjoy superior value and quality onboard and ashore for peace of mind travel at its best
