Today’s order of business involves a review and swatches of the new the Balm Balm Voyage Vol. 2 Face Palette ($39.50). Excited? Me too! I always get super hyped when the Balm released a new eyeshadow and cheek palette and I really loved the original Balm Voyage so a new addition, I’m up for it.

Let’s take a look!

the Balm Balm Voyage Vol. 2 Face Palette includes a new range of nine eyeshadows that can be used wet or dry as well as bronzer, highlighter, two blushes, and two lip and cheek creams. The original palette had 12 shades of eyeshadow and three lip and cheek creams so this time around you get less eyeshadow but do gain more face products. However, in terms of the size you got more product with the Balm Voyage Volume 1.

I like all in one palettes as they are easy to travel with and that’s exactly the inspiration behind this palette. It basically contains everything you’d need for a complete face look housed in a fair size palette that skinny and should travel well and easily. It made from a sturdy cardboard with a magnetic closure and a slip cover. The slip cover is very handy because it kinda holds the palette tightly together during travel to avoid breakage.

The outside has the Balm’s typical whimsical art featuring a cruise ship and different scenes of destination like Cuba, Chicago, etc..!

The shadow wells are considerably smaller than the original palette and weight in at a total of 0.279 oz versus 1.0 oz. I’d say they are just about the size of the Nude Dude Palette wells. I don’t find these wells too small and my brush fits just fine into them plus you gain a little extra space for the blushes, bronzer, and highlighter having them this size.

I think the Balm’s Palette formula isn’t QUITE what it used to be. I think over the years it has changed but the formula still performs solidly. The texture is still very soft, very easy to blend, and quite nicely pigmented. I’d say there is some powdery issues but it doesn’t translate as being dry or chalky. The blushes, bronzers, and highlighters are all nicely pigmented with a soft texture as well. Dobrodos Blush actually reminds me a lot of Down Boy Blush ! I tend to

They also included two Lip & Cheek Stains which are long wearing on my cheeks at a solid 12 hours of wear without fading. They are a bit drier on my lips so I suggest a balm under them or a gloss on top for added moisture. The finish is dewy to the touch but they don�t look shiny on my face and add a nice flush of color.

The palette isn’t necessarily the quintessential “Spring break” range of shades. It does lean towards being warm particularly the face powders in this set. The shadows are warm but there are deeper, richer shades to add elements of smokiness. I wish they were set up in a way that I felt more comfortable pairing them as they seem a little mismatched as they are. The biggest pull for me here is the fact I get a little bit of everything so it does make it a truly complete face palette. I do also quite love the blushes in this palette as those are a showcase for something I believe that the Balm has always excelled at, the creation of great blushes!

the Balm Balm Voyage Vol. 2 Face Palette definitely solidifies and showcases the newer formula that the brand has come to embrace for many of their newer palettes but it isn’t a bad thing, just a different thing. If you liked the last few palettes from the Balm I’d say Balm Voyage will be a win! There’s a little lost in translation moment for me with the eyeshadows but all in all this is a nice round up of colors and makes for an easy to travel with palette to take on holiday with you!

Need. Want. Must have. I love everything from theBalm and own every palette since The Balm and the Beautiful so I will definitely get this to complete the series. That said, you’re right. When I compare Lorac Pro 2, for instance, or Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar, or IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty, theBalm’s recent efforts such as Balmsai and Balm Voyage 1 have fallen a tad short 🙁 I hope they improve and go back to the days of Nude’Tude. But I’ll definitely get all the cuteness from theBalm into my vanity! Thanks for the swatches and honest review, Musey.

I love TheBalm and have the original Balm Voyage palette, but I’m going to pass on this one for the same reason I don’t use the first palette much: I do not like mixed purpose/mixed medium palettes. I just want eye shadows in an eye shadow palette; powders with powders, etc.

Oh I like this one so much more than the first one! I might actually get this when it comes to hautelook!

I agree that I like the full face idea. That’s unique!! The swatches of the Benvenuto, Welcome & Bienvenue were disappointing. :/ not the amazing formula I gush to strangers about… A little underwhelmed but I’m still gonna buy it 😉

PS is that bronzer matte or does it have a sheen? Fingers crossed for matte!

Hello I am thinking of getting this set, but had a couple of question first the 2 lip and cheek balms at the end….do they really last awhile on your lips I tried one a kohls and they seemed to have a little thicker feel than just gloss,,,so do they stay on longer? it it more of a lipstick feel? and if you like any of these , can you buy them separately ? like the lip balm is these colors listed? where you can buy them each ?

TheBalm Voyage Volume 2 Review

The Balm Voyage Vol. 2 palette contains 9 eyeshadows, a highlighter, matte bronzer, two blushes and two lip/cheek creams. It retails for $39.50.

You may recognize this palette from a spring tutorial  of mine from a few week’s back. I have been grabbing it a lot for rushed days because it’s such a great condensed collection of products. That’s why it really could be one of the only things you pack for color products in your suitcase.

Now, let’s talk the 3 P’s!

Packaging: Being that The Balm Voyage is marketed as a “travel palette”, I love the slim, streamlined packaging, included mirror and separate section for the cream products. It is cardboard, like many palettes, so don’t expect anything too luxe, but for under 40 bucks, I can deal.

Pigment: While I’ve been impressed with TheBalm products’ pigment in the past, some of the eyeshadow shades in this were just a little lacking for me. The highlighter isn’t Mary Lou-Manizer , but still nice, the bronzer is decent though I don’t think it’s Bahama Mama , but the lip & cheek creams are probably my favorite of all! Makes me really want the How Bout Them Apples palette now!

Price: As with most TheBalm products, I think the value is great. To get 9 shadows, 4 face products and 2 lip colors for under $40 and a mirror in the palette too is really solid.

I hope you don’t mind how I’ve cropped my swatches below. I did it this way for 2 reasons: 1-I just like clean grid lines and 2-I have too much arm hair for public consumption. Ain’t no shame though.

‘Tervetuloa’ is my favorite shadow of the bunch. It’s a perfect peachy, matte brown that I love as a transition color. The other colors are really nothing I haven’t seen before.

I prefer more peachy-pink blushes so Huan Ying is a win for me. I love the lip creams. Be-Vindo and Vitaje are both gorgeous colors with excellent pigment, wear and scent!

I do like this palette a lot, mainly for the face and lip products. I prefer TheBalm’s Nude Dude Vol. 2’s eyeshadow color selection and pigment to this but hey, can’t win ’em all! If you want to see some of the colors on, check out this video .

I bought this mostly because of the highlighter. I had previously used it and fell in love. However, the eye shadows are amazing. They blend to perfection and are perfectly pigmented. The price was nice also. Highly recommend.

More theBalm amazingness for you! This brand is just too cute. Right here I have the brand new theBalm Voyage Vol 2 Palette which promises to be everything you need for your travels. And there was me thinking that In theBalm of Your Hand was everything I need for makeup on the go! Here’s a close up look and full swatches for you.

So what we are looking at here is a range of exclusive wet and dry, triple milled eyeshadows, blusher, bronzer and highlighter, plus 2 lips and cheek creams. And the shades are just beauts! I am getting to the point now where I literally cannot wait to see what’s next from theBalm.

I am heading off on a summer holiday, and one of my pet peeves has been trying to squeeze in all my essentials into the constricted luggage allowance. This time round, I am carrying 9 eye-shadows, 2 blushes, 1 highlighter, 1 bronzer and 2 lip and cheek stains in my hand-bag. Quite a stash you say? Well here’s news for you, this entire list of goodies is stocked in  The Balm Voyage Vol. II  palette, and its actually as slim and compact as my passport!

The Packaging

How gorgeous is the retro-print packaging?! It comes in tune with the rest of The Balm Cosmetics packaging, and features vintage-style stamps highlighting different countries around the globe.

The palette is made of sturdy hardboard, and opens up into three folds. Loving the nautical mirror! The size of the mirror is also generously large and user-friendly despite being in such a compact palette.

The palette has a peachy blush in the shade  Huan Ying,  and a deep rosy blush in the shade  Dobrodosli.  It also includes a bronzer and a shimmery champagne-hued highlighter (which looks very similar to The Balm’s cult favorite highlighter, Marylou Manizer).

For the Lips:

These creamy lip-stains can also be used on the cheeks. I like how different the two are from each other, giving scope for a wider range of looks.

I really like how the palette has 4 different tutorials printed right on the packaging, allowing users to have a play on the go! I’ll be posting some of my experimental looks here soon 🙂

The Positives

• The packaging is super cute, and will look great in your holiday stash!
• The packaging is also really light and compact, and can easily fit into your handbag. It really is as slim and compact as my passport!
• Given its compact size, this is a very comprehensive palette with almost everything you would need on holiday.
• The products included come in very usable shades that would flatter a wide range of complexions.
• The products tend to glide on easily, and last for a good number of hours.
• The lip and cheek tints in particular are beautifully pigmented.
• The palette has a very user-friendly mirror.
• The packaging has separate flaps for the powder and cream products, which protects them from getting mixed up.
• The palette can give you quite a number of very different makeup looks.
• The palette includes 4 makeup tutorials that are printed right on the packaging, so you can always get creative on the run!

The Negatives

• The eye-shadows are not very pigmented, and you might need to get into them with a wet brush to get more colour.
• The palette does not include brushes.
• Given the small, compact size of the products in the palette, I found getting my contouring brush into the highlighter and bronzer a little tricky.
• You’d still need to carry a foundation, eyeliner, mascara, etc but overall the palette is pretty comprehensive.
• The product shades have hard to pronounce names, but these go with the ‘travel’ theme as they are taken from all around the world.
