A fun blend of old meets new, the 13th arrondissement is an often appreciated district of the city which lies on the rive gauche (left bank- south) of the river Seine. Here’s your ultimate guide to the best things to do in the 13th arrondissement.

An Insider's Guide to the Best of Paris' 13th Arrondissement

The lost River Bièvre

Cité florale , butte aux cailles , îlot de la reine blanche , petite alsace, villa daviel , temple antoiniste, pourquoi pas antique shop, ruins of the couvent des cordelières, passerelle simone de beauvoir, cherry blossoms , les gobelins teddy bears, map of the 13th arrondissement, where to stay in the 13th arrondissement.

One of the most important things to note about the 13e is its rich history, particularly that pertaining to the lost Bièvre River. It was this waterway that flowed from its source in the Yvelines right up to Paris and through the 5th and 13th arrondissements.

At this time, the 13th arrondissement was not considered a part of Paris proper (due to its location outside of the wall of Philip Augustus) and so it was not privy to the taxes of Paris. This fact, coupled with the river, gave rise to several industries in the area.

For example, from the 1300s, many tanners and dyers set up shop along the banks of the Bièvre on account of the fact that flowing water was vital to their industries. It was also in this area that the Gobelins factory was founded.

Gobelins is important in French history as they dyed rich tapestries for the French Royal Family. Other industries to make use of the River Bièvre included weavers, shoemakers, and launderers.

Unfortunately, the industrialisation of the area led to the overpollution of the river, and so during the 19th-century, the river was covered up and now flows through the Paris sewer system.

Today, there is no real way to follow in the steps of the River Bièvre, safe for a few bronze plaques embedded in the pavement. Places such as Cité Florale are now constructed on the dried up banks of where the river once flowed.

Best things to do in the 13th arrondissement in Paris

Paris is home to a number of secret villages that were once communities in their own right but have since become absorbed into the fabric of Paris itself. One of my favourite is Cité Florale ; a teeny tiny greenery filled area nestled away in the 13e arrondissement of the city…

The micro arrondissement quite literally lives up to its name of ‘Cité Florale’. After all, the area is simply a small city of flowers, bushes, and greenery. Vines, wisteria and ivy trail off the side of the houses.

Yet another micro-arrondissement that’s worth checking out in the 13th is Butte aux Cailles. Highlights of Butte aux Cailles   (translated into English as ‘Quails Hill’)  include plenty of Art Nouveau architecture, countless cobbled lanes, and lots of street art, notably many works by local artist, Miss. Tic.

The Gobelins family were wealthy tapestry manufacturers during the middle ages, and today a popular métro station (metro line 7) is even named after this illustrious family. And located in the 13e arrondissement of Paris, down a little winding lane, you’ll find their former mansion residence, Château de la Reine Blanche .

During the summer months, free tours of the grounds take place on a regular basis. The tours are also held on heritage days throughout September, though if you’re visiting during any other time of the year the château is well worth a look from the outside.

One of the more unusual little villages in Paris is unfortunately typically closed to the public but can still be admired via its unique exterior. Petite Alsace is located at 10, rue Daviel and is so-called thanks to the fact that its 1912 constructed timber-framed houses are reminiscent of those found in Eastern France

petite alsace paris

Just across the street from Petite Alsace, visitors will soon stumble upon Villa Daviel, a delightful cobbled impasse that’s open to the public and is characterised by its abundance of greenery.

Much like many other villages of Paris , the road is home to two storey brick houses that differ from the typical Haussmannian architecture that visitors expect to see in Paris. Much like Petite Alsace, the road was opened in 1912.

While wandering around the 13th arrondissement you’ll spy plenty of skyscrapers and modern blocks of flats, Temple Antoiniste (located at 34 Rue Vergniaud) is an unusual building which resembles a small white church and is located in the very heart of the 13th arrondissement.

The place of worship was actually constructed for the religious movement of Antoinism, which is known as the Culte Antoiniste in French. The movement was founded in 1910 by Louis-Joseph Antoine and beliefs of those who follow the religion include a blend of elements of Catholicism, reincarnation, and healing.

French brocantes are world-famous thanks to their charm and the fact that heading to them feels something akin to a treasure hunt. After all, you never know what you’ll stumble upon next!

Well, Pourquoi Pas? is literally translated into ‘Why Not?’ in English and is an old warehouse turned gallery filled with an eclectic wealth of objects and antique from all over the world. The store is located just across the street from the Temple Antoiniste and is open from 1 PM to 7 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

One of the more unusual hidden gems of the 13e is actually not very easily spied from the roadside. For, hidden behind a fairly tall hedge, and now a part of the Hôpital Broca AP-HP (hospital) private gardens, there lie the remains of the Couvent des Cordelières.

The convent was created at the best of the Marguerite de Provence, a royal, at the end of the 13th-century. At this time, the 13th arrondissement would not have been a part of Paris proper and the convent owned 8 acres of land. In 1796 the land was sold and by 1834, the convent had been transformed into the hospital.

Those in search of one of the most unusual bridges in Paris would be well served by heading to Passerelle Simone de Beauvoir, which is a pedestrian footbridge which crosses the River Seine. The bridge was constructed between 2004 and 2006 and links the 12th and 13th arrondissements.

One of the best things to do in the 13th arrondissement is to stroll around and look at all of the street art. From murals which cover the entire façade of a block of flats to Invader mosaics, there’s no shortage of unique, interesting, and beautiful works of art to discover.

One of the best parts about visiting Paris during the spring is the sheer number of beautiful cherry blossom trees everywhere. And one of the lesser-known spots for enjoying cherry blossoms in Paris is in the 13th arrondissement. Simply head to mail de Bièvre during the end of March/ beginning of April

If you’ve spent any time in Paris during the past few years, then you’ll have seen that the phenomenon of cafés placing giant teddy bears in their terraces has all but taken over the city.

Well, interestingly enough, this phenomenon actually began in the 13th arrondissement. The trend actually began in late 2018 when the  ‘nounours des Gobelins’ (teddy bears of Gobelins) first popped up in the less-touristed area of the 13th district of Paris, before being adopted by other establishments across the French capital.

The 13th arrondissement is not the most popular place to stay in the city (that award probably goes to Montmartre or Le Marais) but it does make a good base for someone who wants to avoid the hustle and bustle of the city centre and who wants to stay in a quieter, more residential neighbourhood. Here are some of the best places to stay in the 13e based on web-reviews and location:

Budget: This low-cost hostel is a stone’s throw away from the Galerie des Gobelins museum and is also pretty close to  Place d’Italie metro station. There are dorm rooms available as well as private rooms for an extra fee. Some rooms have balconies. Check prices and availability here.

Mid-range: This no-fuss three-star hotel is situated close to the metro and has highlights such as free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and accepts pets at an extra charge. Check prices and availability here.

Luxury: For the crème de la crème of a stay in the 13th arrondissement, you need to look no further than this four-star hotel, which lies alongside the River Seine and boasts amenities such as a pool, conditioning, and free Wi-Fi. Check prices and availability here.

Description

Commissioned by the City Council, some of the biggest names on the French and international street art scene have been invited to express their talent on the walls of Paris’s   13th arrondissement.  This guided walk takes you on a tour of the huge murals and frescoes painted on the sides of buildings in the area around the Place d’Italie and the surprisingly village-like neighbourhood of the Butte aux Cailles . Showcasing work by  Obey, Inti  and  C215 among others, this whole area has become an extraordinary and ever-changing open-air museum dedicated to street art and neo-muralism. Fresh Street Art Paris is the organiser of this visit. The 13th arrondissement of Paris is primarily a residential and business district in the southeast of Paris, on the Left Bank of the Seine.

Although not usually recognised as a natural magnet for tourists, the 13th nonetheless does hold several attractions of interest to the traveller that include the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (national library), completed in 1996, and part of a major new development of the Paris rive gauche district, the second large-scale urbanism project inside the city of Paris.

To the west of the PRG, along avenue de Tolbiac is the first of these urbanism projects, Les Olympiades , with its raised esplanade and the latest of the Paris Meteor (high-speed metro) stops, Les Olympiades . The southern part of the arrondissement is the Chinatown of Paris, perhaps the biggest in Europe.

On foot [ edit ]

The easy walk to the 13th arrondissement from the centre of Paris (Île de la Cité) takes around 40 minutes, either through back streets or along the Seine promenade. It can be a very pleasant walk: you can walk across the Latin Quarter, for example, through the rue Mouffetard in the Paris/5th arrondissement .

By métro [ edit ]

You can get to the 13th arrondissement using 3 metro lines:

  • Line   7   serves Gobelins' near the Manufacture des Gobelins, Place d'Italie , Tolbiac (good entrance point for Chinatown), Maison-Blanche , and Porte d'Italie , Porte de Choisy and Porte d'Ivry . You will get to these three stations only if you take a train that goes in the Mairie d'Ivry direction. Other trains take another direction and leave Paris immediately after Maison-Blanche.
  • Line   6   serves Glacière , Corvisart , Place_d'Italie , Nationale , Chevaleret , near the avant-garde art galleries of rue Louise-Weiss, and Quai de la Gare , near the Bat-O-Far and other .
  • Line   14   serves Bibliothèque François-Mitterrand (near the new Bibliothèque de France), Olympiades , Maison-Blanche , before heading to Orly Airport starting in June of 2024.

  • Les Frères Tang , av, de Choisy . The Tang brothers have the biggest Chinese grocery in Paris, occupying several multistory barracks-like buildings tucked into the Olympic housing project. They're known for giving away large balloons during Chinese New Year celebrations. They are one of the rare supermarkets to be open on Sundays.

The south part of the district, in the high-rise Chinatown area, is the good place to go if you like Chinese or Vietnamese food. Many outlets sell Vietnamese sandwiches. The area is not the best for getting cheap, good quality Chinese food. Elsewhere the 13th has some standouts.

  • Phở 14 ( Across from Sinorama ). For Vietnamese soups, best known in the district.

  • Sala Thaï , 13, rue des Frères d'Astier de la Vigerie ( Maison Blanche    7   ), ☏ +33 1 45 84 13 22 . Delicious Thai food. Dinner for about €35 including beverages .

If you are looking for quality French food, a large choice of good and affordable wine, this is the place to go. This is what we can call a "restaurant populaire" (as opposed to other posh and expensive places around) with a friendly staff, a very nice atmosphere, no way to reserve a table, just show up and the "patron" will find a place for you (arrive before 20:00 if you don't want to queue up, especially on weekends), shut down your mobile phone or you will be kicked out! The "Boudin a la Normande" (blood sausage) is a must, you can also get very decent goose liver and other French speciality such as "Salade de Museau". €12-20 .

On va continuer à s’accrocher.

Le Tour reste long.

1-Vingegaard

2-Pogacar à 9''

3-Hindley à 2'51

4-Rodriguez à 4'48

5-A. Yates à 5'03

9-Gaudu à 6'52

Le classement de la 13e étape

1-Kwiatkoswki

2-Van Gils (+47'')

3-Pogacar (+50'')

4-Vingegaard (+54'')

5-Pidcock (+1'03'')

Quel duel !

Attaque de Pogacar !!!

Vingegaard a dû mal à suivre !

2 km - attaque d'Adam Yates, Kuss suit

95km - Coquard a renoncé

  • Michal Kwiatkowski (Ineos)
  • Quentin Pacher (Groupama-FDJ)
  • Alberto Bettiol (Education First)
  • James Shaw (Education First)
  • Kasper Asgreen (Soudal Quick-Step)
  • Matej Mohoric (Bahrain Victorious)
  • Fred Wright (Bahrain Victorious)
  • Jasper Stuyven (Lidl Trek)
  • Adrien Petit (Intermarché Wanty Gobert)
  • Mike Teunissen (Intermarché Wanty Gobert)
  • Georg Zimmermann (Intermarché Wanty Gobert)
  • Nelson Oliveira (Movistar)
  • Hugo Houle (Israel Premier Tech)
  • Luca Mozzato (Arkéa Samsic)
  • Pascal Eenkhoorn (Lotto Dstny)
  • Maxim Van Gills (Lotto Dstny)
  • Cees Bol (Astana)
  • Harold Tejada (Astana)
  • Anthon Charmig (Uno-X)
  • Pierre Latour (Total Energies)

· Jonathan Castroviejo (Ineos) · Omar Fraile (Ineos) · Magnus Cort (EF Education) · Rémi Cavagna (Soudal-Quick Step) · Fred Wright (Bahrain Victorious) · Bryan Coquard (Cofidis)

Gaudu a "envie"

AISAP announces $13M seed for AI-powered ultrasounds that offer results in minutes

Discover how companies are responsibly integrating AI in production. This invite-only event in SF will explore the intersection of technology and business. Find out how you can attend here .

In a major leap in medical imaging, Israeli startup AISAP announced today that it has secured $13 million in seed funding for its product: an AI-powered software platform that connects to common ultrasound wands and sensors to provide rapid assessment of patients’ conditions for physicians — even those doctors and medical professionals without any formal training in analyzing ultrasound imagery.

AISAP’s Point-of-Care Assisted Diagnosis (POCAD) delivers results in as little as five minutes, compared to other ultrasound procedures that can take hours or even days for results to become available, as they are limited by the availability of radiologists who can interpret images and the labs where said images are processed.

“The problem that we’re addressing is actually the fact of imaging today worldwide is a scarce resource, and there’s not enough to go around,” said Roni Attali, AISAP CEO and a PhD in biotechnology, neurology, and organic chemistry, in a video call interview with VentureBeat yesterday.

The funding round for the two-year-old startup was led by Harel Insurance Investments & Financial Services Ltd. and Shoni Health.

Founding and mission

AISAP was founded by a diverse group of experts across medical, technology, and intelligence sectors, including Adiel Am-Shalom of the IDF’s elite 8200 Unit, Ehud Raanani, Director of the Leviev Cardiovascular and Thoracic Center at Israel’s Sheba Medical Center and Ehud Schwammenthal, a leader in echocardiography — the technique of using ultrasound to scan the heart and analyze its health and condition.

The company’s mission, driven by the expertise and vision of its founders, focuses initially on cardiac medicine with plans to expand into other medical areas.

“We want to provide doctors with information which is essential after a short five, six, seven minute scan, and not after a 45 minute scan that you will see in the echolabs, which can take up to one hour,” said Robert Klempfner, AISAP’s co-founder and chief medical officer, in the same video call with VentureBeat. “So we want to be efficient, and we want to reach a diagnosis to help the user to obtain the gist of the information rapidly, and then the physician at the bedside can decide what they want to do” to treat the patient — including getting more full and accuracy imagery, or intervening if it’s an emergency.

Delivering an initial diagnosis faster than traditional methods may be the difference between life or death for some patients — potentially millions of people — especially when dealing with such a vital organ as the heart.

How AISAP’s POCAD system works

tour 13e

The POCAD software lives in the cloud but it is encrypted, and compliant with the U.S.’s Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) laws and the company notes it is ISO 13485 certified.

Most importantly for the purposes of physicians and medical experts using it, it can be deployed in hospitals or out in the field, and is connected on the back end to common, existing ultrasound wands and sensors already in use by many responders.

“You don’t need to buy a new machine, because the hospitals already have it,” said Attali.

POCAD is designed to be user-friendly for any physician, featuring an “urgency score” to prioritize patient care based on condition severity and a quality score for the scans, ensuring reliable diagnostics even with less experienced operators.

The machine learning underpinning POCAD was trained on 24 million echocardiogram video clips from more than 300,000 studies made available through Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan, Israel.

“How can we distill the knowledge of a lot of cardiologists we have at Sheba — millions of frames of data, of cardiac images that have been interpreted by top cardiologists, experts in echocardiography?” asked Klempfner rhetorically. “How can we create a funnel and take all this information and provide this information to aid the non-cardiologist at 2 am in the emergency department, on the medicine floor, or in the critical care department?”

The system is priced on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) subscription model based on the number of users at each customer, categorized into different buckets

Compelling initial results

In a recent study at Israel’s Sheba Medical Center, still under review, POCAD was tested in emergency and internal medicine departments.

The findings were compelling: 29% of 660 patients, who had not received comprehensive ultrasounds, were found to have at least one moderate, previously undetected medical condition.

Tamir Pardo, former head of Mossad and current leader of AISAP’s Strategic Board, also emphasized the transformative potential of this technology: “The ability to provide critical diagnoses anywhere, anytime, without the need for a dedicated expert, represents a paradigm shift that could save countless lives.”

With its fresh funding and cutting-edge AI solution, AISAP aims to redefine the standards of medical diagnosis, making rapid, accurate, and accessible ultrasound evaluations more widely available.

POCAD is available now at hospitals in Israel and AISAP plans to launch it in the U.S. pending FDA approval, ASAP (as soon as possible).

A brief tour of pop music’s caffeine addiction.

Hear songs by Sabrina Carpenter, Squeeze, SZA and more.

tour 13e

By Lindsay Zoladz

Dear listeners,

A few weeks ago in our Friday feature the Playlist, I recommended a bubbly new single by the pop artist Sabrina Carpenter and made a bold prediction: “Get ready to hear this one everywhere.” Even more quickly than I imagined, the prophecy has come true. Last week, “Espresso” debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Carpenter’s highest charting hit yet. More important, it has taken over the nation’s psyche. You can hardly go anywhere these days without hearing someone quoting the song’s infectious hook “That’s that me espresso” or wondering aloud, “what is a ‘me espresso?’”

That’s a profound philosophical question for another day. Today, we are simply honoring the absurdist joy of “Espresso” with a playlist of songs about caffeinated beverages.

Coffee has been a consistently evocative theme throughout pop musical history, so this mix travels from 1940 right up to the present moment. That trusty beverage is often used to describe a sophisticated kind of romance (as it does on Otis Redding ’s swooning ballad “Cigarettes and Coffee”) or perhaps the idle hours waiting around for said romance to occur (see Peggy Lee ’s sultry take on the 1948 standard “Black Coffee”). Chappell Roan tries to use it as a shield against romance on a track from her 2023 album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” reasoning with a former flame, “I’ll meet you for coffee, ’cause if we have wine/You’ll say that you want me, I know that’s a lie.”

In “Espresso,” Carpenter uses the caffeine metaphor to suggest how restless she makes a guy she has wrapped around her finger: “Say you can’t sleep? Baby, I know.” Also, crucially, she understands that “espresso” rhymes with “I guess so.” That’s poetry.

It’s time for the percolator,

Listen along while you read.

1. sabrina carpenter: “espresso”.

A breezy summer bop with a dash of bizarro humor, “Espresso” is about to be blaring from every other beachside boombox. Carpenter’s gloriously unbothered vocal and the track’s disco-inflected sheen make the whole thing go down easy. ▶ Listen on Spotify , Apple Music or YouTube

2. Squeeze: “Black Coffee in Bed”

A memorable image — “there’s a stain on my notebook where your coffee cup was” — kicks off this smoldering, six-minute classic about trying to move on from a relationship while concrete memories linger all around. (And yes, that is Elvis Costello on backing vocals.) The British band Squeeze’s songwriter and guitarist Chris Difford revealed in a 2019 interview that an actual coffee ring inspired those opening lines: “Yeah,” he said . “I still have the notepad in my office.”

▶ Listen on Spotify , Apple Music or YouTube

3. Peggy Lee: “Black Coffee”

The great Peggy Lee kicks off her 1956 debut album with an elegant reading of this song, written by Sonny Burke and Paul Francis Weber and first made famous by Sarah Vaughan. That titular brew helps her stay awake as she waits up for an absent lover: “I walk the floor and watch the door/And in between I drink/Black coffee.”

4. SZA: “Percolator”

This brief but effervescent track from the deluxe edition of SZA’s 2017 debut album, “Ctrl,” chronicles the singer’s insecurities and doubts before declaring, “I wanna be a percolator.” I’m just going to pretend she’s talking about the coffee kind.

5. The Ink Spots: “Java Jive”

This 1940 single from the pioneering vocal group the Ink Spots is a fun and slangy ode to a hot cup of Joe. “Slip me a slug from the wonderful mug,” singer Deek Watson croons, “and I’ll cut a rug till I’m snug in a jug.” And you thought “that’s that me espresso” was silly!

6. Otis Redding: “Cigarettes and Coffee”

Companionship and good conversation make an ordinary moment glow — “just talking over cigarettes and coffee” — in this warm, crackling ballad from Otis Redding’s “The Soul Album.” “I don’t want no cream and sugar,” he sings, “’cause I’ve got you now, darling.”

7. Chappell Roan: “Coffee”

This playlist began with one rising pop girlie, and it concludes with another: the suddenly ubiquitous Chappell Roan. Over a sparse but theatrical piano arrangement, Roan figures meeting an ex “only for coffee” is a better bet than meeting for dinner or drinks: “Nowhere else is safe, every place leads back to your place.” By the end, though, she’s not even sure a quick, caffeinated date is innocuous enough: “’Cause if we did coffee, it’s never just coffee.” Don’t even ask her about espresso.

Heavy titans and cultural phenomenon SLIPKNOT are pleased to announce the North American portion of their Here Comes The Pain Tour . This year the nine are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their seminal debut album, Slipknot , which catapulted the band back in 1999.

In addition to recently announced dates across the globe, the Here Comes The Pain Tour , produced by Live Nation, includes arena plays nationwide this Summer. Highlights include New York City’s Madison Square Garden, Los Angeles’ Intuit Dome, Austin’s Moody Center and more with direct support from Kentucky’s young and vibrant hardcore/metal forerunners, Knocked Loose . Orbit Culture and Vended are confirmed as support on select dates.

Knotfest.com’s artist presale tickets are available  today at 12PM ET here . Tickets will be available to the general public on Friday, May 3 at 10 AM Local here . See below for a full list of dates including Slipknot’s homecoming performance at Knotfest Iowa in which the band will play a unique set drawing heavily from their 1999 debut, celebrating 25 years of the self-titled album along with their fans.

There actually was a time when Slipknot and the maggots (the loving name for their fans) did not completely rule the world. 25 years ago, the Des Moines band were just some guys trying to get their new LP noticed– a record that would start their metamorphosis into the most crucial band of the 21st century. That record would change rock as we know it, measuring success with a yardstick bigger than music, one for the influence on youth culture writ large. But these faceless demons from middle America would not only capture the hearts of the youth, they would help guide their tastes, and challenge them and their kin towards a new future.

Released on June 29th, 1999, Slipknot’s self-titled debut was a smash hit with critics and an instant classic with fans. It was, and is, a molotov cocktail signaling a revolution– embracing a creative direction that eschewed metal traditions in favor of fresh ideas. While the jaw-clenching riffs coupled with Ross Robinson’s venomous production were crucial to the album’s success, it was the care and attention to detail in the songcraft that moved the needle from “great” to “benchmark.” Not too shabby for a bunch of guys that only hoped to be heard.

“We loved what we did with the first record but we didn’t even know if there was gonna be anything after that,” recalls guitarist Jim Root . “We just wanted people to hear it. Selling out of records and shows, having successful tours– those are goals for any band. But the dream scenario in some ways, came true for us.”

In the years following, Slipknot’s popularity nipped at the heels of elder statesmen and even the band’s heroes, eventually navigating this brave new world with unending drive, fresh ideas and a bloodlust for odometer clicks. Tens of billions of streams and tens of millions of subscribers and followers later, the accolades tell the story: 64 award nominations and 27 wins including a Grammy for “Before I Forget“ from Vol. 3 .  A seemingly endless number of tour dates. Headlining slots at some of the biggest festivals in the world such as Download, Rock In Rio, Hellfest, Wacken and many more. Not to mention RIAA certifications by the truckload– 14 platinum certifications and 40 gold across more than 30 million in record and video sales.

In addition, Slipknot positioned themselves for success with the creation of their own festival Knotfest in 2012, a traveling, multi-stage and experiential event that has appeared 28 times across several countries and locations. The festival has since spun off into a successful entertainment media hub – Knotfest.com , which became a juggernaut of its own making, giving a platform to young freethinkers and like-minded artists.

All of Slipknot’s achievements have helped them claim their rightful seat as pioneers and thought leaders, establishing them as a generational talent– loved by parents AND their children alike. And of course with all those incredible live performances, all that influence, and all that history of playing all those incredible SONGS, Slipknot has only attracted the most dedicated of fans, reaching all the way back to that fateful self-titled effort.

Slipknot is approaching this 25th anniversary by making the conscious decision to connect to fans as closely as possible, in a similar way to how they encountered Slipknot all those years ago. “Every time I’ve walked on stage, it’s never been about how many people have been there because my culture, the maggots, always show up,” says founding member Shawn “clown” Crahan with a smile.

“But as we’ve grown as a band, we have had fewer and fewer of those intimate, personal moments, trading them for massive ones. So we’re gonna make it more personal on the anniversary, but how remains to be seen. Just get ready to have your face kicked in. Because we just do what we do, spread that maggot culture – that disease. And you’ve been infected.”

Weather forecast: Rain expected Friday morning at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson

Change Text Size

Updated: Thursday, May 2, 10 p.m. ET: Thunderstorms will be possible again early Friday morning as a cold front settles into the region. Storms could be strong to severe with heavy rain and strong gusty winds. The frontal boundary will stall across the north.

Update: The opening round of THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson was delayed one hour due to inclement weather. The first round began at 7:50 a.m. local time.

It's going to be a soggy Thursday and beyond at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson.

Thursday’s forecast calls for potentially an inch-plus of rain at TPC Craig Ranch, with rain and thunderstorms also possible through the weekend in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The region had already been softened by rain in recent days, as well.

Soft conditions could mean lower-than-normal scores at the Tom Weiskopf-designed venue, which has seen winning scores between 23 and 26 under in each of the last three years.

“The course is soft just because we've had some rain,” defending champion Jason Day said Wednesday. “I would think that we're going to play probably the ball in hand the whole week … we're still getting some mudballs out there now, and I know we had some rain maybe Saturday last week. From what we're looking at weather-wise, we've kind of got some bad weather coming in tomorrow. So hopefully we can get through that day and then hopefully rest the week opens up.”

“A complex of strong to severe thunderstorms will be moving across North Texas Thursday morning with heavy rain and gusty winds,” wrote the PGA TOUR’s official weather forecast. “This activity should move east of the area by midday with a lull in the precipitation expected for the rest of the afternoon. Thunderstorms will be possible again Friday morning as a cold front settles into the region. The frontal boundary will stall across Northern Texas through the weekend, keeping the chances for showers and thunderstorms in the forecast.”

Here’s a look at this week’s forecast, as of Wednesday, May 1:

Thursday: Morning rain and thunderstorms likely, with a 90% chance of rain. Projected rainfall .8 to 1.25 inches. High 79 F, Low 67 F. Winds S-SW 10-15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph.

Friday: Chance of morning thunderstorms, with a 30% chance of rain. Projected rainfall .2 to .4 inches. High 81 F, Low 66 F. Winds NE-ESE 10-15 mph.

Saturday: Chance of afternoon thunderstorms, with a 40% chance of rain. Projected rainfall .2 to .4 inches. High 79 F, Low 67 F. Winds SE 7-14 mph.

Sunday: Chance of afternoon thunderstorms and breezy, with a 50% chance of rain. Projected rainfall .25 to .5 inches. High 78 F, Low 67 F. Winds SSE 14-18 mph, with gusts up to 27 mph.

Will Taylor Swift add 'Tortured Poets' to international Eras Tour? Our picks.

tour 13e

A double album. Thirty one songs. Two hours and two minutes. In the spaces between the international, record- breaking Eras Tour, Taylor Swift released her 11th era: "The Tortured Poets Department." But will the behemoth tour make room for the newest addition to Swift's vast catalog and how?

"The Tortured Poets Department" showcases the singer's mastery to connect words like puzzle pieces seamlessly depicting the human experience and complex themes of false wedding promises, relationship imprisonment, break-ups and drug escapism, religion versus rebellion, childhood retrospection and the duality of internally suffering while externally performing. It would be a surprise for her not to push this body of art into the spotlight.

But how it fits into the 44-song three hour and 15-minute Eras tour is anyone's guess. And we won't find out until she resumes the tour on May 9 in Paris. I'll be there.

Read Melissa Ruggieri's review Taylor Swift's 'Tortured Poets' is hauntingly brilliant, even the 15 surprise songs

Whether or not she's incorporating the era has already been decided. Swift is 13 steps ahead . She plans her moves years in advance. There is a two-month break from the tour and she has been spending time in Los Angeles. Her team of dancers have not been as active on social media possibly because they're rehearsing a new set. Or maybe it's a coincidence?

The simplest path would be to absorb some of the the 31 songs into the acoustic set that comes after "Bad Blood" during the "1989" era. Swift has used the 2024 surprise songs to play mash-ups on the guitar and the piano. It's when she makes announcements and it's a custom gift to concertgoers and fans watch in envy on livestreams from around the world.

'Tortured Poets' release live updates What to know as Taylor Swift's new album debuts

More likely, she will add a "Tortured Poets" set. The show is segmented, allowing a new era to squeeze in. She could open the show with the new era, although "Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince's" opening line is a perfect opening for an artist who has released seven albums and hasn't seen fans: "It's been a long time coming." She could end the show with the set, but "Karma" is a good show closer.

Cue the confetti. If she ends the tour with "Tortured Poets," I'm guessing "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" is the closer.

The writing shines bright like Swift's glittering sequin stars which is reminiscent of and relative to "Folklore" and "Evermore." For the flow of the concert, it makes more sense to not place "Tortured Poets" next to these albums. The show flows with a narrative that spans almost two decades with highs and lows of energy. Two areas that could be good: after "Reputation" and before "Speak Now" or after the secret songs and before "Midnights." Maybe she dives into the stage to swim to the an asylum of typewriters and tormented thoughts.

The four eras with the most amount of songs are the latest records she owned that aren't re-records: "Lover" (six songs), "Folklore" (seven songs), "Evermore" (five songs) and "Midnights" (seven songs). Will she follow that flow? Will she cut songs from these eras?

I could see her performing the lead single "Fortnight," title track "The Tortured Poets Department," Eras Tour song "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart," "Down Bad," "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me," "thanK you aIMee" and "So High School."

Swift holds the answer key. Sixty-nine shows are left on the recording shattering magnum opus for 2024.

The convent was created at the best of the Marguerite de Provence, a royal, at the end of the 13th-century.
