The trip was generally smooth. BUT, much to be desired in respect of your guide services, most of whom speak Spanish and unsatisfactory English. Those passagers, including ourselves, who do not understand Spanish were "information-handicapped".

The Best of Europe Tour

The Best of Europe

Overall, had a good time on the tour courtesy of our experienced and friendly tour director Zsolt and highly-skilled driver Antonio. They were both very knowledgeable and friendly, providing many insights into the places we visited and lots of good humour as well. Despite a few unexpected issues during the trip, they worked extremely hard after hours to resolve them and ensure no disruption for the tour group. This was first tour my wife and I have done and we felt it allowed us to see a lot of Europe in a short period of time, with the trade-off being some very early starts and late finishes. To make the most of the tour, to will need to book the optional excursions as probably half the time on location is spent in some form of optional excursion. We found some of the local guides that are required to be used in Italy were not as good at leading the group as the tour director, leading to some confusion at times on the excursions. A few of the hotels felt a bit underwhelming in terms of location, food or broken amenities which could be due to the recent reopening from COVID but given we mostly were exploring throughout the days/evenings, the main issue with this was that some of the breakfasts were a little sparse. Altogether we found the tour quite enjoyable, with highlights for us definitely being Lucerne, Venice and The Isle of Capri. We would consider doing future tours with Cosmos, but given the pace of this tour and the amount of travel involved, we would likely pick shorter regional ones and do a few less of the optional night excursions to allow more time to self-explore.

What people love about london to paris tours.

Tour guide was great, Local experts were great, but the only thing that was not so great was the hotels. A lot of people in our group were older, and the tubs were high. Difficult to get in and out of. Please consider this when choosing hotels.

About The Tour

Take all the angst out of travel, just leave it all to us!

We will take you on a wonderful day trip that you will never forget, to the most romantic city of Paris. Your adventure begins as you board the high speed Eurostar train at London St Pancras International.

Your relaxing train journey takes you through the Garden of England under the English Channel and through the north of France – right into the centre of Paris where you will be met by your friendly, enthusiastic expert Paris Tour Guide.

From the moment you arrive in Paris, you will be beguiled by the richness of its history and its architectural beauty. Sit back in a luxury, private car and enjoy as you are guided through this incredible city. From the world-famous Eiffel Tower to the lesser known quarters of Paris every moment is a joy. The beauty of Paris cannot be understated and there is a surprise almost on every corner of this city.

See the stunning Notre Dame cathedral, ravaged by fire, but still standing as an overwhelmingly majestic sight. Close by is the Latin Quarter, a wonderful area of charming narrow streets where tourists mingle with the students from the Sorbonne University.

Stop for a coffee, the Parisian way, in the café which was known as a hotspot for famous philosophers, artists and writers too - sit where Sartre, Picasso, Hemingway and Joyce to name but a few used to sit.

The Louvre Museum built originally as a palace is mesmerising and you can choose to visit inside - it does after all hold the world’s most famous painting, the Mona Lisa.

Drive along one of the world’s most famous avenues, the Champs Elysees, dominated at the top by the incredible Arc Du Triomphe, built to celebrate the victories of Napoleon. Admire the symmetry and beauty of the elegant streets of the most opulent quarter of Paris, with fabulous boutiques, luxury hotels and stunning mansion buildings.

Stop for a delicious lunch in one of the many wonderful brasseries which your guide will recommend depending on your location at lunchtime.

Continue after lunch to the charming 18th Century Place Vendome, with its beautiful mansion houses - one which was home to Coco Chanel - jewelers and the Ritz hotel, still remembered as the place Princess Diana left from on that fateful night.

See the breath-taking 19th Century Opera House possibly the most stunning building of its time in Paris and the inspiration for Leroux’s ‘Phantom of the Opera’, now a world-famous musical.

On to the area of Montmartre, on top of one of Paris’s seven hills. The spectacular Sacre Coeur church looms over the pretty little squares and narrow streets of Paris’s artist quarter. Take a leisurely walk with your guide exploring this wonderful neighbourhood soaking up its bohemian ambience. The main square bustles with artists painting away, charming cafes and restaurants, windmills, and even a vineyard - this area has retained its charm of years gone by.

It is easy to find a peaceful little spot here with an incredible view overlooking all of Paris - the perfect way to end your Parisian adventure before returning to the Eurostar for a relaxing journey back to London.

Alternatively ask us about spending the night in Paris and see more of France’s highlights on the following day - such as Giverny , Chartres , or the  Palace of Versailles . Also see our private tours of France

  • We recommend having at least one blank passport page for entry stamps.
  • Beginning in 2025, U.S. and Canadian passport holders must register for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to enter many European countries.
  • Passport holders from over 60 visa-exempt countries (including the U.S. and Canada) will need to apply for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to visit 30 European countries. That means that even if you’ve previously traveled to any of these European countries without a visa, starting in 2025, you’ll need to get ETIAS authorization to visit them again. If you’re traveling to multiple countries with this requirement, you only need to complete the form once. All Go Ahead travelers are responsible for obtaining their own ETIAS travel authorization before departure. For more details, please visit our Help Center .
  • If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact each country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements.
  • You can see the most up-to-date entry requirements for the destination(s) you’ll visit on tour by going to goaheadtours.com/entry-requirements and searching the code LPA.

If you do not see your driver, please be patient and stay in the arrivals area. They may be assisting another traveler who has also just arrived and will be back shortly.

Physical Activity Level

This is a low physical activity-level tour. You can expect short walks and low-intensity activities throughout the course of the tour.

Tour Pacing

This is a steady-paced tour. The pace of a tour itinerary considers how often you’ll switch hotels, the amount of planned daily activities, and how you’ll get from place to place. You can expect:

  • Most transportation by motor coach
  • Occasional transportation by train
  • About 3 hours of bus time daily

Walking, Terrain & Physical Requirements

  • Travelers should be prepared to walk 1- 2 miles per day - this includes city streets, cobblestones, stairs, and hills.
  • Cobblestone streets can become slick when wet.
  • Travelers should be healthy enough to participate in all included walks without assistance.
  • Please Note: Adding optional excursions may increase the total amount of walking on your tour.

Climate Considerations

  • In London, travelers can expect cool, cloudy, and rainy days throughout the year, with occasional heatwaves in the summer months (June-September).
  • In Paris, temperatures range from 40sF in winter to low-80sF in summer, with occasional heatwaves in the summer months (June-September).

Physical Activity & Tour Pace Questions

  • Go Ahead Tours and the Tour Director who accompanies your group are unable to provide special mobility or luggage handling assistance to travelers on tour. The responsibility of the Tour Director is to ensure the group enjoys a smooth and informative journey, and they can’t be relied on to provide individualized assistance to any one traveler.
  • This tour moves at a reasonable pace to avoid missing scheduled stops. The rest of the group cannot miss any scheduled activities because of the needs of an individual.
  • Due to the pace and physical activity level of this tour, mobility aids such as wheelchairs or walkers will be difficult to use and are not recommended. Please notify Go Ahead Tours before your departure if you plan to bring these on tour with you.
  • If you have mobility concerns or tour pace questions, please visit our Help Center or send a message to our Customer Experience Team. We’re here to help!
  • This tour includes various modes of transportation, including train and private motor coach. Some modes of transportation will have raised platforms or steps and often not provide access to ramps or lifts.
  • A train ride from London to Paris is included in the price of your tour.
  • All other included transportation on this tour is by private motor coach.
  • European train stations typically operate similarly to airports where security measures, such as baggage and body scanners, are common. Platforms are often spread out across large distances and require travelers to manage their luggage on escalators or stairs. Porterage services are not offered on train transfers and luggage storage on trains is extremely limited. Please keep in mind that trains may only be stopping at the stations for a few minutes; speed with loading and unloading may be imperative.
  • Please note that our travelers are limited to one checked bag and one personal item per person due to storage limitations on motor coaches and other transfers, which includes a train.
  • Some airlines may impose additional charges if you choose to exceed baggage size and weight restrictions. Be advised that you are responsible for any baggage fees incurred on all flights.
  • Contact your airline(s) for baggage size and weight restrictions for your flights.
  • Make sure you label your baggage and keep valuables, medication, and documents in your carry-on bag.
  • Travelers must manage their own luggage throughout tour as porters are not guaranteed. This includes at hotels, airports, and train stations.
  • Luggage storage on trains is extremely limited, and often requires travelers to lift their suitcases onto storage racks, sometimes above the seats.
  • We recommend packing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that can be easily layered to accommodate varying temperatures, as well as a light jacket or rainwear.
  • A sturdy pair of walking shoes or sneakers is recommended for sightseeing.
  • You may want to pack dressier attire if you plan to visit a high-end restaurant or attend a special performance.
  • It is preferable not to visit churches or other religious sites with bare legs and shoulders (and entrance may be denied on this basis).
  • We recommend packing a reusable water bottle to cut down on single use plastic waste.
  • We recommend packing a universal adapter, as well as a voltage converter if you plan on using your own hairdryer or other device without a built-in converter.
  • We recommend packing your Insurance Card (from your primary insurance provider) in your carry on luggage.
  • Go Ahead handpicks every hotel to strike the balance of comfort, location, and local charm.

Day 5: Le Touquet to Reims

Cathédrale Notre Dame de Reims guide and private tour group

The following morning head to Reims, home of the famous champagne region of France. Also, don’t forget it is pronounced Rinse, this city is probably the most mispronounced city in France!

Reims is not just famous for champagne, but it is also known as the City of Kings as it was in the cathedral in Reims that Kings of France were crowned from 816 until 1825 – an impressive 33 Kings. In more recent years Reims was the city where the Commander in Chief of the German Army signed the surrender to WWII.

The city was 80% destroyed in World War I and actually was the most damaged city across the whole of France during this period.

The magnificent cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is a stunning example of French Gothic architecture. The intricate stained glass windows designed by Marc Chagall alone are worth a visit to Reims.

Your afternoon will be spent visiting the Palace de Tau, once home to the Archbishop of Reims and now a museum that also details how the city was rebuilt following WWII.

A visit to Reims would not be complete without a champagne tasting. Enjoy a private cellar tour in one of the city’s most famous champagne houses followed by dinner in one of the city’s finest restaurants.

tour london to paris

Your tour starts today with a visit to the Louvre, home to some of the World’s most precious artworks, famous for the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. This stunning building is also home to over 35,000 works of art.

Not only is the Louvre the most visited museum in the world it is also the biggest museum with galleries spreading over 15 acres! In fact, if you were to spend 30 seconds looking at each piece of art housed in the museum it would take over 100 days and so your guide will work with you to ensure you see all the artwork on your bucket list.

Next visit the Orangerie museum, home of Monet’s incredible Water Lilies, which is a permanent exhibition as well as art from Cezanne, Modigliani, and Picasso to name a few of the famous artists displayed at this museum. The museum is located in the Tuileries garden close to the Louvre where you can enjoy a stroll along the banks of the Seine after your private tour.

Day 9: Montmartre & The Sacre Coeur

Guide showing guests the Sacre Coeur, known as Sacred Heart of Montmartre church.

No visit to Paris would be complete with a day on the famous left bank – home to artists and musicians and writers throughout the ages. Climb up to the Sacre Coeur for the most spectacular views of the city skyline, from La Defence to the Bois de Boulogne, and on a clear day visibility is over 20 miles.

In the afternoon your guide will take you to visit some of the lesser-known squares in Montmartre bustling with art galleries and museums and even the occasional windmill and have a late leisurely lunch at a traditional Parisian brasserie.

Day 10: Gourmet Tour, Notre Dame & the Champs Élysées

Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris

Your guide today will take you on an epicurean tour of Paris starting with the traditional French petit dejeuner (or petit dej as they call it) at a local boulangerie where the head baker will teach you about the different breads and pastries they bake every morning.

Top tip – if you are ever buying bread in France never go to an empty boulangerie – the French are perfectly happy to queue outside their favorite for 20 minutes rather than buy bread from a shop where they believe the bread is of inferior quality. Your tour will include a visit to an award-winning fromagerie as well as local charcuterie and poissonnerie.

In the afternoon your private chauffeur take you on a drive past the famous Notre Dame where you can see the army of construction workers restoring this landmark building following on from the devastating fire in 2019 before heading towards the famous shopping avenue in France – the Champs Élysées, home to Louis Vuitton, Guerlain, and Cartier.

UK Travel Planning Guide: the FAQs

🏥 Should I buy UK travel insurance?

Absolutely yes. Basic coverage is not expensive, and as a visitor you are NOT covered under the NHS. Compare policies and prices with Travel Insurance Master here , a big name in the travel insurance business, and cross that off your list.

🔌 Do I need travel adapters for the UK?

Yes, you do, otherwise you won’t be able to plug in your electronics/phone/lifelines. I recommend this one , which is all-in-one so you can use it in other countries.

🚗 What do I need to drive in the UK?

The first thing you need to check out if you’re planning on renting a car in the UK is this guide to driving in the UK for visitors – the roads, signs, and driving experience will likely not be what you’re used to and it’s essential to prepare yourself to stay safe and aware.

🛌 What’s the best way to book hotels in the UK?

For UK hotels, Booking is the best site as it offers free cancellation on many properties. If you want an apartment, I always recommend VRBO over AirBnb.

📳 Will my phone work in the UK?

Yes – if you set it up right. Check out my guide on making your foreign phone work in the UK to ensure that you get the type of service you need.

🚿 Can I drink the water in the UK?

Yes, UK water is great and perfectly safe. But drink out of taps in any kitchen or use water fountains. Double check before drinking out of the taps in hotel bathrooms, though, as they may be on a different system. London water is safe to drink .

How to Plan a Day Trip to Paris From London by Train

Adventurous Kate contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase through these links, I will earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks!

A day trip to Paris from London is the perfect addition to a trip to England!  Thanks to the fast and efficient Eurostar train, it’s never been easier to visit Paris for a day. The train takes just two hours and 20 minutes.

Honestly, one day isn’t enough for Paris — ideally, you should spend as much time there as you can. I would gladly stay in Paris for weeks on end.

But not everyone has lots of extra time on their trip. So is it worth it if you only have one day to spare?

Absolutely — taking the train from London to Paris is always worth it. Even if all you have is one day, you can still make it the best day ever.

But if you’re only visiting Paris for one day, it’s best to plan your trip carefully so that you get as much out of it as you can. I’ve laid out all the steps you need to take and a suggested itinerary for someone visiting the French capital for the first time.

Let’s take a look at the itinerary! I want you to have the best day trip ever.

This post was most recently updated in January 2023.

Paris Day Trip from London FAQ

The best way to get from London to Paris is by train . It goes from St. Pancras Station in London to Gare du Nord in Paris and takes about two hours and 20 minutes.

No matter what the weather is, you should dress neatly and wear shoes with good arch support. I usually wear jeans, black flats, a faux leather jacket, and a scarf.

Yes, you need your passport to go from London to Paris or vice versa. You will go through immigration. This goes for EU residents too, as due to Brexit the UK is no longer in the EU.

The perfect one-day itinerary in Paris includes exploring Notre-Dame and the Marais, having my favorite crepes and galettes in the world for lunch, visiting a gorgeous art museum, and seeing the Eiffel Tower up close.

A bright yellow train in London's King's Cross station and people walking by with suitcases.

Take the train from London to Paris

The train is far and away the best way to visit Paris for a day.  Eurostar trains depart from London’s St Pancras International Station, arrive at Paris’s Gare du Nord, and take about two hours and 20 minutes each way. You can buy Eurostar tickets here.

This is the Channel Tunnel train to Paris that goes underwater, beneath the English Channel. You go from the center of London to the center of Paris, plus the train journey is exceedingly pleasant.

The bus from London to Paris, by comparison, takes more than seven hours. Not worth it. Driving takes just under six hours if you don’t hit traffic.

You could fly from London to Paris, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a day trip. The flight only takes about one hour and 10 minutes, but you have to factor in getting to the airport 90 minutes before your flight, plus nearly all of the London airports and all Paris airports are located significantly outside the city and take a long time to get there.

(If you insist on flying to Paris for the day, I recommend either flying from London City Airport, which is centrally located though often very expensive, or flying from Heathrow and taking Heathrow Express from Paddington Station, which takes just 15 minutes.)

You need your passport when going from London to Paris, whether it’s by train, plane, or any other method. Even if you’re an EU citizen. Britain is neither in the Schengen Area nor the European Union anymore.

What time should you book the train for? If it were me, I would book a very early train to Paris and a very late train back to London. Perhaps even the last train. I would want to have an early start and enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner in Paris.

Be realistic about how much you can see on a Paris day trip from London.

One day is not enough for Paris, nor is it enough for everything you will personally want to see on a day trip to Paris from London. You can’t see the Louvre Museum and the Musée d’Orsay and go to the Eiffel Tower and go to Hemingway’s bars and walk around Montmartre and see the show at the Moulin Rouge.

In fact, I wouldn’t advise visiting more than one museum on a day trip to Paris.

I encourage you to choose one or two activities that are absolute musts and to plan your day around them. Supplement your day with activities that are close to your main priorities.

For example, if seeing Notre-Dame is a priority, you can easily fit in nearby destinations like Saint-Chappelle, Île Saint-Louis, Shakespeare and Company bookstore, and either the Marais or St. Germain des Prés.

If you want to spend part of your day in Montmartre, visit the Sacré Coeur, take a long walk down Rue Lepic, see Amélie’s Café des Deux Moulins, and walk down to the Opéra before checking out the rooftop terrace at Galeries-Lafayette.

And if you absolutely must visit the Louvre on your Paris day trip, take time to wander the Tuileries Gardens, visit the Palais Royal, and grab a hot chocolate at Angelina before window-shopping at the jewelry shops of Place Vendôme.

Include downtime in your itinerary.

It’s easy to spend a Paris day trip going from attraction to attraction, but I think the magic of Paris is found in the in-between moments. Sitting in a cafe with a coffee or a glass of red wine. Wandering cheese and pastry shops. Crossing the Seine over and over again with no destination in mind.

It doesn’t take a lot of effort to get of the beaten path — just go to a new neighborhood and wander in whatever destination pleases you.  I wrote a whole post about it.

This free time is where the Paris magic happens.

What to Do on a Day Trip to Paris

I always tell people to travel to the destination that makes their pulse race. And that goes for Paris, too. Prioritize the things that make you excited — the things that are most important to you personally, not the things that you think you should do. If you’re not into art, you don’t have to go to any museums! You can have a day trip to Paris from London without seeing the Mona Lisa .

If your favorite movie in high school was Moulin Rouge! or Amélie , spend time walking around Montmartre.

If you love Monet, Van Gogh, and Degas, go to the Musée d’Orsay for the best collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings in the world.

If you’re a die-hard Doors fan, go see Jim Morrison’s grave at Père Lachaise Cemetery.

Beyond that, I think how you should explore Paris depends on your travel experience level. If you’re an experienced traveler, you can handle exploring by metro on your own.

If you’d like something a bit easier, or if you or your companion have limited mobility, a hop-on-hop-off Paris bus tour is a great option for getting around. These bus tours take you from attraction to attraction and let Paris unfold in front of you.

Bonus: if you book the full day tour from London to Paris by train , they include a hop-on hop-off bus tour for free.

Perfect Itinerary for One Day in Paris

Book an early train from London to Paris and a late train back to London.

You have two options:

1) You can book London to Paris train tickets here.

2) You can book a day tour that includes train tickets and a hop-on-hop-off bus tour in Paris here.

From that point on, this is my idea of a nice Paris itinerary that takes in a lot of the central sights. It’s a particularly good option for a first-time Paris visitor.

The pointy back end of Notre-Dame Cathedral framed by tree branches.

Morning: Notre-Dame and Vicinity

Arrive at Gare du Nord and transfer to the metro line 4 toward Mairie de Montrouge. Get off at Saint Michel Notre-Dame.

Stop for a quick coffee if you’d like and go see Notre-Dame. (Unfortunately, Notre-Dame has been closed since the awful fire. But you can still admire it from the outside.)

Next, walk east to Île Saint-Louis and wander the streets. If you’re feeling really indulgent, get an ice cream at Berthillon ! This ice cream is fantastic and world-famous.

Head north toward the Hotel de Ville and explore the streets of the Marais, heading further upward. Stop by Pierre Hermé for macarons — they’re the best in the city. Just be sure to eat them the same day. Good macarons aren’t built to last.

A few images of cider in a bowl, a buckwheat Galette with an egg poking out the center, and a salted caramel crepe with ice cream melting on it.

12:00 PM: Lunch at Breizh Cafe in the Marais

Breizh Cafe is home to outstanding Brittany-style buckwheat galettes and sumptuous crepes. There are several locations in Paris now; you want the Le Marais location at 109 Rue Vieille-du-Temple.

I usually get a galette with egg, cheese, and artichoke followed by a salted caramel crepe for dessert, along with their delicious homemade cider.

Make a reservation in advance if possible ( they finally do online reservations, but only two weeks in advance ); if not, try showing up when they open at 11:00 AM.

Alternative lunch: Walk up to Rue des Roisiers and wait in line at L’As du Falafel, one of the best cheap lunches in Paris. Order your falafel and walk a few streets away to Place des Vosges, where you can enjoy your falafel “sur l’herbe” or sitting on a bench.

Alternative gluten-free lunch: As I update this post in 2023, I realize that neither galettes nor falafel are ideal for gluten-free travelers. If that’s the case for you, find any adorable Parisian-looking cafe in the Marais and dive into their menu. You can always find meat, fish, or an omelette with vegetables.

My friend Jodi creates extremely well-researched gluten-free travel cards that communicate what you can and can’t eat in the local language. Here’s the French card. Well worth the investment!

The Musee d'Orsay, set in a train station with a rounded roof with skylights and a big clock on one wall.

Afternoon: Museum of Your Choice

Visit one of Paris’s world-class museums in the afternoon. Since you’re visiting Paris on a day trip and have limited time, I urge you to buy skip-the-line tickets in advance to avoid long lines, and be sure to double-check which museums are open that day.

The Centre Pompidou (Beaubourg) is a short walk from Breizh Cafe; if you’re a fan of modern art and architecture, this is a great choice. (If not, I’d go somewhere traditional instead.) There’s a fabulous view of the Eiffel Tower from the top, too. Buy skip-the-line tickets to Centre Pompidou here.

Another option? Head to the Louvre and see the Mona Lisa  (La Joconde) for yourself! The Louvre can be overwhelming; I recommend limiting yourself to two or three sections of the museum (I happen to love the golden Gallerie d’Appolon).  Buy skip-the-line tickets to the Louvre here.

My favorite Paris museum is the Musée d’Orsay, which is home to incredible Impressionist paintings in a fantastic old train station. Buy skip-the-line tickets to the Musée d’Orsay here. Don’t forget to get a photo from the second level.

Not a museum fan? Check out a cool neighborhood instead! My top recommendations are Montmartre (18th arrondissement) or St. Germain (6th arrondissement). Pick out a destination in each — perhaps Sacré-Coeur in Montmartre, or Les Deux Magots in St. Germain — but spend the bulk of your time wandering.

The Eiffel Tower in front of a row of cannons in the Trocadero Gardens, a cloudy sunset behind it.

Late afternoon: See the Eiffel Tower up close

How you see it depends on how much time you have. You can take a hop-on-hop-off cruise down the River Seine if that interests you. I recommend taking the Metro Line 9 to Trocadéro for the most stunning surprise view of the tower when you turn the corner. From there you can take all the photos you want.

I do not recommend actually climbing the Eiffel Tower. Why? Because you won’t be able to see it in your photos! But if you insist, once again I recommend buying skip-the-line Eiffel Tower tickets due to your limited time. Make sure it includes the summit.

Instead, you can enjoy the most wonderful view from the Trocadéro Gardens and on the other side, Champs de Mars, a big long park.

I recommend getting a good view from the nearby Arc de Triomphe. It’s a 20-minute metro ride on the 6 from Bir-Hakeim/Champs de Mars Tour Eiffel to Charles de Gaulle Étoile, five-minute cab ride, or 30-minute walk.

Climb the Arc (once again…yep, skip-the-line Arc de Triomphe tickets are best here) and enjoy views of the Eiffel Tower as well as down the Champs-Elysées to Place de la Concorde.

A free alternative is to go to the rooftop of the Galeries Lafayette department store in the 9th. It’s not quite as close as the Arc, but it’s free to visit with a fabulous view — and a great way to experience your Paris sunset. Just don’t get sucked into the shopping!

Yellow and blue Eurostar trains lined up at Gare du Nord in Paris.

75 minutes before your train: arrive at Gare du Nord

You have to go through immigration again at Gare du Nord, so it’s wise to arrive 75 minutes before your departure.

If you’re coming back from the Eiffel Tower, your best route is to take the 9 from Trocadéro to Mairie de Montreuil and switch to the 4, taking it to Gare du Nord. It should take around 35 minutes.

Enjoy that high-speed Eurostar train ride back to London, awash in your Paris memories. Now would be an excellent time to dive into those macarons you procured earlier!

Do’s and Don’t’s For a Day Trip to Paris from London

I’m not going to begrudge you for doing what you think is best for yourself, but here are some tips:

Do keep track of the time change. Paris is one hour ahead of London.

Do research opening times in advance. Especially so for museums. The Louvre and Centre Pompidou are closed Tuesdays, while the Musée d’Orsay and Musée Rodin are closed Mondays, to start.

Do say, “Bonjour, madame!” or “Bonjour, monsieur!” whenever you enter a shop or restaurant. This is considered basic manners in France and if you don’t, you may be treated rudely in return.

Don’t leave central Paris. This tacks on a lot of time to what is already too short of a trip. Versailles, for example, is just outside the city center but can easily eat up more than half a day. That also goes for Chartres, Giverny, Reims, the Loire Valley, the beaches of Normandy, Disneyland Paris, and other day trips from Paris.

Do guard against pickpockets. If you use a purse, I recommend using a black crossbody purse that zips shut , preferably made of leather or faux leather. Keep your hand on it. You can also keep valuables in the hidden pocket in a  Speakeasy Travel Supply scarf  — I guarantee nobody will pickpocket you there!

Don’t leave love locks anywhere. They’re damaging to structures and your lock will be removed anyway. Just enjoy the city of love without vandalizing it in the process.

Don’t go to the top of the Eiffel Tower.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This may seem like shocking advice, but when you’re on top of the Eiffel Tower you can’t see the Eiffel Tower.

It’s like going to the top of the Empire State Building in New York — the most iconic building will be missing from your photos.

Definitely go to the base of the Eiffel Tower and the Trocadero Gardens for the best views, but if you want a good view from a building, I recommend the top of the Arc de Triomphe (close proximity), the rooftop of Galeries Lafayette department store in the 9th (a bit further away), or the top of the Sacré Coeur in Montmartre (furthest away but sweeping views over the whole city).

Do not, under any circumstances, forget an umbrella! Paris’s weather is similar to London’s, but only London gets the overcast weather fame. The weather changes quickly in Paris and rain can come out of nowhere, even on an otherwise sunny day. This travel umbrella is small enough to pack away but strong enough to hold its shape on a windy day.

Kate squatting and giving two thumbs up next to the inverted glass pyramid at the Louvre and giggling with glee.

What to Wear on a Day Trip to Paris

Parisians have a well-earned reputation for being among the best dressed in Europe. So what should you wear on a day trip to Paris?

It depends on the season, but my go-to outfit is a nice top or sweater, slim or skinny dark jeans, a faux leather moto jacket ( this one is similar to mine) or sleek winter coat, and a beautiful scarf or pashmina ( Speakeasy Travel Supply makes gorgeous scarves with a secret hidden pocket — perfect for Paris!).

For shoes, I recommend a pair of black flats with good arch support (I swear by black Abeo flats from the Walking Company ). If it’s cold, you might prefer  a pair of black boots .

My go-to stylish sneakers are these white leather Cole Haan sneaks . Top your look off with tasteful makeup, nice jewelry, and a pair of dark sunglasses .

You might enjoy dressing up a bit, especially if it’s warmer out. Wearing a nice dress makes for better photos and could earn you more cordial treatment from locals or even get you mistaken for being local.

What not to wear: Shorts, athletic sneakers, baseball caps, old-looking t-shirts, and anything with a university name on it will immediately brand you as a foreigner anywhere in Europe, but especially so in Paris. I recommend leaving these items at home.

*The tour wants to give fans, not scalpers, the best chance to buy tickets at face value. To make this possible they have chosen to use Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange. If fans purchase tickets for a show in the U.S. or Canada and can’t attend, they’ll have the option to resell them to other fans at the original price paid. To help protect the Exchange, the tour has requested all tickets be mobile only and restricted from transfer. This applies to all shows except those in Colorado, Illinois, and New York where Face Value Exchange cannot be mandated. Please note, a valid bank account or debit card within the country of your event is required to sell on the Face Value Exchange. New airline launches Los Angeles to Paris flight

A low-cost, long-haul airline has launched a new LAX to Paris service.

Norse Atlantic Airways celebrated the inaugural flight of the new route on Wednesday.

Flights take off from LAX four times per week, departing around 9 p.m. and landing in Paris around 5 p.m. local time the following day. Flights to L.A. depart around 4:15 p.m. and land stateside around 7 p.m. the same day.

Economy fares start at $239 one-way, the airline says.

“The beautiful city of Paris is now even more accessible from Los Angeles thanks to the great value fares on Norse,” said Bjorn Tore Larsen, the company’s founder and CEO. “With up to six flights a week from the heart of Hollywood to the City of Love there has never been a better time to experience the magic of the French capital.”

The trip will be made aboard a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which Norse says offers a relaxed and comfortable travel experience, with each seat including a “personal, state-of-the-art entertainment experience.”

The premium cabin offers a 43-inch seat pitch and 12-inch recline, which Norse says is an industry-leading feature.

The airline has been flying since June 2022 and runs a fleet of 15 planes, offering “affordable fares” primarily between Europe and the U.S.

Norse also offers flights from LAX to Oslo, Norway and Gatwick Airport in London.

Foals’ Yannis Philippakis shares ‘Walk Through Fire’ video and announces UK and European shows with The Yaw

The music video is the result of an art installation held in April in London

tour london to paris

Foals ‘ Yannis Philippakis has shared the first music video from his new project, Yannis & The Yaw , featuring the late Tony Allen – watch the visuals for ‘Walk Through Fire’ below.

  • READ MORE: Foals’ Yannis Philippakis tells us about The Yaw and his record with Tony Allen: “Our spirits got on”

Last night (May 2), Philippakis released the music video for ‘Walk Through Fire’, the first track to be released from Yannis & The Yaw’s upcoming EP, ‘Lagos Paris London (feat. Tony Allen)’ – the record is due out on August 30 via Transgressive Records. Pre-save the EP here .

The music video for ‘Walk Through Fire’ is the result of an art installation held in April in London, for which 75 CRT television sets were set up at a shopfront, with each screen showcasing different themes that inspired the EP, as well as archival footage of Tony Allen.

Besides releasing the music video for ‘Walk Through Fire’, Yannis & The Yaw have also revealed an interactive website, through which fans can create their own versions of the visual as their webcams imparting them into the wall of retro TVs.

‘Walk Through Fire’ isn’t the only offering that Yannis & The Yaw have gifted fans; they’ve also announced a small collection of tour dates across Europe and London this September in support of their upcoming EP.

Yannis Philippakis said of the shows via a press statement: “The shows will be free-flowing and on the edge, improvised passages will meet with hard-worn grooves. It will feature some collaborators from the project and other musicians in our extended family.

“It will be an emotional release to finally play these songs live: bittersweet and poignant without Tony here, but important to allow the music to be played live, to give it oxygen and to release the music properly into the world. It’s been a labour of love.”

A pre-sale for all shows can be accessed by signing up for the Yannis & The Yaw mailing list HERE . Tickets to the London show will go on general sale at 9am BST on Friday, May 10.

Yannis & The Yaw’s 2024 tour dates are:

SEPTEMBER 10 – Amsterdam, Paradiso 11 – Paris, La Cigale 13 – London, KOKO

Philippakis first began teasing the Yannis & The Yaw project with Tony Allen to NME in 2017 . The pioneering Afrobeat musician, who played with both  Fela Kuti  and  The Good, The Bad & The Queen,   died in 2020 at the age of 79  and the music had been in development for some time ahead of his passing.

The Foals frontman met NME last month to discuss the project, who described collaborating with Allen as “one of the best musical experiences of my life”.

Philippakis recalled Allen not being “super friendly” right out of the gate, but that the Afrobeat legend had opened up quickly after jamming. He recollected of their first time playing together: “I pulled out the riff that is ‘Walk Through Fire’, Tony came into his drum area and just started playing. It was crazy. I just felt like I was lifting off slightly. We just jammed it and by the end of that day we had cut the majority of the first three tracks on the EP.”

“I went back the next morning, we did a couple of quick structural things, some handclaps, and that was kind of it. It was set it motion. We became friends just through that initial jam. It felt like the whole room warmed up.”

Unfortunately, Allen died mid-way through the EP’s recording process after COVID had hit and forced the production cycle to a halt. While the EP wasn’t complete, Allen and Philippakis had recorded enough for the former’s collaborators the Vincents to step in and finish the project: “Thankfully the Vincents had worked with him a bunch so they could say what Tony would and wouldn’t have wanted. They guided a lot of that principle, but a lot of the tracks were almost finished and most of what needed completing were my parts. We didn’t actually mess with that much of the original tracking. Most of the tracks were done from a jam done twice – they weren’t replayed, there weren’t multiple takes.”

“We didn’t make this EP like a record or an album where there’s a defined destination and an idea of perfection that we were striving for. It was liberated. It was very rough and ready and very fast. Once the instrumentals had been captured, they weren’t tinkered with much at all.”

Erroneous information about New Brunswick included in tourism pitches to Europeans

Shuttered attractions, mixed-up cities appear in materials posted by companies hired by province.

tour london to paris

Social Sharing

A number of European tour operators that government tourism officials met with in London and Paris last year to discuss promoting New Brunswick routinely mix up basic facts about the province in their ads and have been suggesting visits to defunct or shuttered attractions.

"Spend time in Saint John, the provincial capital," suggests one ad currently being run by British-based Prestige Holidays.

"Relax before your flight to Saint John, New Brunswick's largest city," proposes another advertisement from U.K tour operator Wexas.

Saint John is neither New Brunswick's largest city, nor its capital. Those titles belong to Moncton and Fredericton, respectively.

Prestige and Wexas are two of the private tour operators New Brunswick Tourism Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace said she met and signed contracts with last September during a trip to London and Paris by her, her deputy minister Yennah Hurley and two other department officials.

During a legislative committee session last week, Scott-Wallace said her department works in close "partnership" with the companies and it was important to meet directly with them.

Some of the tour operators "had interests in the province they wanted to discuss" and all, she said, signed contracts of some kind with New Brunswick for the upcoming year.

"I sat at the table with tour operator companies," said the minister.

"These were face-to-face meetings with these businesses — senior executives, owners of these companies."

Despite those direct meetings and contractual ties with the province several of the tour operators appear to be in the dark about basic New Brunswick facts, locations and attractions.

"New Brunswick's capital is steeped in history," Wexas writes in one blurb that then suggests visitors to the capital take in the historic Martello Tower and the New Brunswick Museum. Both sites are in Saint John, not Fredericton.

Little harm will follow, however, since neither Saint John attraction is open.

Martello Tower has been closed to the public for the last eight years and is currently shrouded in construction materials and scaffolding. The museum shut its doors in 2022 and its collections are currently in storage.

A proposed new museum building will not be open until at least 2026.

Tour operator Canadian Sky also suggests a visit to the shuttered museum while in Saint John and for "families" adds the Cherry Brook Zoo as a preferred outing.

The zoo was closed permanently four years ago.

Moncton's status as a regional shopping centre, one of Canada's fastest growing metropolitan areas and New Brunswick's largest city, appears unknown to any of the tour operators. Instead, an aging 50-year-old arena in the city got top billing in one write-up

"Moncton is known for its Coliseum," claims Wexas.

Scott-Wallace told MLAs that selling New Brunswick as a tourist destination to Europeans is something the province is depending on the tour operators to execute.

"We have contracts signed with each and every person on this list," Scott-Wallace said about the companies she met personally with.

"These are signed contracts with every person on this list for '24-'25. That's a good seven days' work from me."

  • Rise in international tourists cited by embattled N.B. minister was seen in all provinces
  • Tourism minister faces more questions on deputy's spending

It is unclear if New Brunswick's Tourism department checks the accuracy of what those tour operator partners say about the province in ads or if the minister raised the issue during her face-to-face meetings with company officials.

However, on Friday a department spokesperson said in an emailed statement changes are now being requested.

"The Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture has been in contact with the European tour operators to make updates to the information," said the email.
