I write to thank the Amitylux Tours team for giving and planning an amazing weekend tour in Copenhagen for us. They tailored everything around our interests including walking tour, biking tour, boat tour and traditional Danish food tasting. They helped us to find and book the best fine dining restaurants and they organised private car to pick us up from the airport. Excellent service!
What a great tour we had!! Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and we enjoyed walking and chatting about the many different aspects of Copenhagen, including of course the famous “Hygge”. We visited several places that are off the usual tourist trail and we also enjoyed tasting some typical Danish food and drink. I wish we had done the whole day tour as there is so much more to see. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to learn about this capital city, its culture and traditions.
We had a wonderful walking tour of Copenhagen with Alex. He was very knowledgeable and kept us entertained with fun facts while guiding us to many of the city’s sites. We learned so much about the area and the country in this short but very expertly conducted tour. Thanks, Amitylux Tours!

In many ways, Copenhagen’s perch on the eastern edge of Zealand, bridging the gap between Scandinavian Sweden and the European north, is what has defined it as a city in the modern age. Within the aged patchwork of its medieval old town, quaint painted facades rub shoulders with gliding trams that look like they’ve been plucked straight out of modernist Germany, while the baroque majesty of the Latin Quarter speaks of Paris, and the salty smorrebrod luncheons could only have come from the Baltic Sea. There’s no question that Copenhagen is one seriously cool place, and the locals know it too. In the summer they emerge as if from hibernation to sprawl out over the beaches of the Amager Strandpark, the promenades of the inner harbour, the amusement spots of the Tivoli and the al fresco drinking joints of the old town. In the winter, the action goes underground, to subterranean jazz bars or thumping techno clubs spouting Scandinavian electronica. All around everything is designed meticulously, carefully keeping alive the unflappable bespoke and artistic side of this truly creative city.

New Tour: The Little Mermaid and Harbor Tour
Join our 2.5 hour harbor tour to learn all about Denmark’s history as a naval and merchant power, and see some of our most famous statues and buildings, from the Little Mermaid to Nyhavn.
For hundreds of years Denmark controlled the only naval route into the Baltic sea, which gave it formidable power. Today the old naval and merchant quarters have been turned into parks, grand promenades, and palaces. And in the grand tradition of Copenhagen, the harbor is still expanding to this day, with exciting and controversial projects! Visit an old star fort, the Little Mermaid, the royal gardens and more, and hear about Danish military might, slave rebellions, and the future of Copenhagen’s harbor.

Kompas Nordic is an incoming tour operator, established in 1997 in Copenhagen, Denmark. We offer a wide range of high-quality travel services throughout Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Iceland, Greenland & Faeroe Island offering all kinds of services, from individual travelers to large groups and conferences.
The main sender markets are up-scale Asian markets(Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia), Australia, USA, South-America, Southern Europe, Eastern Europe’s emerging markets, Israel and Benelux.
These markets provide a balanced volume of income all year round. During the summer months we have mostly escorted leisure group series from the main markets. The winter months between November and April are occupied by our Far East market.
Some of our markets search for budget hotels, some of them book only suites of luxury properties and our group and high-end-client departments meet the needs of all of them. As we are in connection with a large range of markets, each of them with own traveling attitude, these all together provide business 365 days per year.

What people love about Europe Tours from Copenhagen
I did the ScanBaltic tour during the winter holiday season and it is a lot of distance to cover within a short amount of days. While I did greatly enjoy the trip, the Scandinavian part of the trip had several bumps in the road and did not leave much time to actual explore and experience the cities. We spent many hours on the bus during the day often arriving to the cities in the evening after the museums and major tourist destinations are already closed, so all you could do was eat maybe a dinner and briefly walk around for 2-3 hours before going to the hotel. Days are short in the winter so you couldn’t really see many of the main spots in the evening either. Additionally with this tour, the Spanish speaking tour guide did a much better thorough explanation of the history and description of our destinations than the English speaking one. We often had to ask some of the bilingual group members for the full information of what the Spanish speaking tour guide relayed. The big problem of the Scandinavian part of the tour was our bus getting pulled over by the police in Norway where we sat on a bus for 3 hours and we’re not allowed to leave, before anyone told us anything. This resulted in our New Years being spent at a gas station in Norway. We also missed Aarhus and time in Odense due to disorganization. However, once I joined up with the next group for the Baltics tour it was AMAZING. The tour guide Jose provided a lot of information about our destinations, and it was the same in both Spanish, English, and Portuguese. He was extremely helpful with giving tips and taking care of everyone in the tour group. He really made it a personal experience. This part of the tour also had a great amount of time allocated for each city and we could actually go to museums, main tourist spots, shops, etc. And experience the city and culture. For solo travelers: I went as a solo female traveler. On the Scandinavian part of the tour, there were several solo travelers both male and female in the group whom were very welcoming and ended up coming together as a group to make sure no one was alone for the holidays. I felt completely safe throughout the entire duration of the tour. I opted for the option to do a room share but never ended up being placed in a room with another solo traveler. I got lucky and had a private room 17/17 days. General clarification: when signing up for the tour, it will say look at the boards in the hotel for information about tours, departure times, etc. I was a little nervous about this and why a group chat in WhatsApp wasn’t just used to convey this information. You only have to look at the reception for information about the start of your tour on day 1. Any other day, your guides will tell you exactly what time and where you will need to be to depart and/or go on tours. My only suggestion would be for the Scandinavian tour to have 2-3 extra days added or maybe traveler between cities in the winter after the sun goes down at 4 so then people can sight see and tour museums during the daylight and when everything is still open. Overall it was the trip of a lifetime. Made new friends and a unforgettable memories. I hope this review helps for those booking in the future :)
I was worried about the culturally mixed tour clients due to some negative reviews from previous clients. But I enjoyed the experiences of mixing with participants from Mexico and the Philippines. Yes sometimes bilingual guides’ presentations were not clear, and I had to ask for clarifications. Hotels were better than I had expected from the reviews; except in one-hotel the lightening was so bd
My trip was well organized. The Tour Leader Amanda and the Driver Raffie were both excellent. The cities, sites, people, and events experienced were a joy.

I couldn't be happier with our Nordic Visitor trip. In the past, I've always done my own research and arrangements, but Nordic Visitor's knowledge of the area paid dividends throughout the trip. Loved that the hotels were located near our trains, making everything walkable. Included breakfasts were excellent. When anything changed, our representative informed us quickly and had alternate arrangements or options ready for us to choose, making everything seamless. Outstanding service!

Frequently Asked Questions About Scandinavia
You may have a few questions about your upcoming trip to Scandinavia, so we’ve collected and answered the most important ones for your convenience. Or, if you want to know more about our processes and payment details, check out our FAQ page .
1. What countries make up Scandinavia?
Scandinavia is a region in Northern Europe that is made up of Sweden, Denmark and Norway. The neighbouring countries of Finland and Iceland are technically 'Nordic' rather than 'Scandinavian'. But many people consider them Scandinavian because they share many cultural similarities.
2. Are Finland and Iceland in Scandinavia?
Scandinavia is typically defined as the countries of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Finland and Iceland are technically ‘Nordic’ countries as they are not part of the Scandinavian peninsula.
However, due to shared celebrations and cultural norms, both Iceland and Finland can loosely be considered Scandinavian in many ways.
3. Why travel to Scandinavia?
Imagine looking out to incredible views of endless fjords, visiting chic ‘Scandi-cool’ cities and enjoying the midnight sun by the many charming canals and harbours. Scandinavia is a brilliant destination for its balance between urban areas and nature reserves, and you benefit from the best of both with the opportunity to go on pretty hiking trails and sightseeing in the city.
It’s a feast for the senses as well, with colourful UNESCO heritage wharfs, cruises along the Baltic sea and literal smörgåsbords of delicious food. A long-time favourite of nature lovers, hikers, city breakers and fans of architecture, Scandinavia has activities and points of interest for everyone.
What's more, the region has been named by top publications as one of the best destinations to visit in Northern Europe this year .
If we’ve whet your appetite and you’re curious about the attractions here, then read our first-time visitor guide to Scandinavia .
4. Where to visit in Scandinavia?
Scandinavia has so many must-see cities and points of interest that it’s hard to list them all. Here are our favourite cultural hotspots and famous sights:
- Geirangerfjord, Norway
- Copenhagen, Denmark
- Pulpit Rock or Preikestolen, Norway
- Bergen, Norway
- Gothenburg, Sweden
- Helsinki, Finland
- Oslo, Norway
- Stockholm, Sweden
- Flåm, Norway
- Tivoli Gardens, Denmark
For more information about exploring the region, read this handy guide on the best times and places to go , or check out the top Scandinavian cities to visit .
5. When is the best time to visit?
Scandinavia is stunning all year round and there’s plenty to see and do during each season. Pinpointing the best time for you depends on your preferences when travelling. For pleasant weather and extended hours of daylight, visit Scandinavia during the summer months.
Visit in the winter or shoulder seasons for a quieter trip with charming, festive sights. If the northern lights are your must-see, then we’d recommend checking out our Norway and Lapland packages.
For more information and travel ideas read our comprehensive guide on when to visit Scandinavia .
6. How to get around Scandinavia?
A popular option to travel around Scandinavia is via railway. Highly rated by locals, the trains are usually clean, comfortable and most importantly, prompt. The railway routes pass by stunning scenery making for an extraordinary “commute” and there are opportunities to stretch your legs on board.
Sailing from destination to destination on a cruise is also a great way to see Scandinavia, as each voyage will give you amazing views of coastal attractions such as the Norwegian fjords. For our cruise and train packages , we arrange all of the timings for you and tickets are booked before you arrive for peace of mind.
Another great way to travel around Scandinavia is by guided mini-bus tour. Unlike larger coach tours, our small group tours have a maximum of 16 people. You get to travel with a local guide who will show you their perspective of Scandinavia, and not just repeat what’s written in the guidebooks.
Scandinavia also has some of the best self-drive road trip routes in the world. You could see the countless islands of the Stockholm archipelago here, as well as seaviews from Hardangerfjord Bridge or vistas from the highest mountain passage in Norway, Sognefjell.
For more ideas on how to explore Scandinavia, check out our range of travel packages .
7. Can I choose the arrival date?
Yes you can choose your ideal arrival dates. We have a wide range of arrival options depending on the package and season. Our tours are all available to book online so once you’ve found your favourite one, you can choose the best dates for you. If you’ve already booked but need to change your dates, get in touch with your travel consultant to rearrange your bookings.
8. When should I book my flights?
We recommend that you book your package and wait for confirmation before you organise your flights as this ensures that your tour is secured and you have all of the correct timing information.
We advise checking flight times and dates beforehand so you can pinpoint your ideal tour dates. Get in touch with your dedicated travel consultant to move your tour dates if your flights change.
9. Can we add extra nights in some locations?
You can add extra nights at the start and end of all tours. For some tours, you can ask your consultant to add extra nights at destinations along the way as well. You can do this online when you book, or if you’ve already booked your package, contact your travel consultant as soon as possible to update your tour.
10. Can I customise a tour from scratch?
By booking one of our packages, you’ll enjoy fantastic accommodation, carefully planned routes and pre-booked activities. As well as this, we can personalise your itinerary with added nights at the start and end of your journey and, depending on the package, extra stops during your trip.
While we may not always build a tour from scratch, we will try our best to include any special sights or attractions you want to go to.
11. What should I pack to wear in Scandinavia?
Scandinavia is a region in Northern Europe, so the weather can be a little temperamental in most seasons. We advise that you prepare for all outcomes by packing the following:
- Warm jumper or fleece
- Thermal layers
- Waterproof jacket and trousers
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Small day bag or rucksack
- Binoculars
For more information on what to pack and wear, take a look at our handy Norway packing guide .

A tour to the happiest country in the world does not take much time at all! You could complete a circuit trip around Denmark’s major places in just over 7 days. Copenhagen will be the most time consuming with 2-3 day spent inside the city itself.
Denmark has a well-mapped and well-maintained road network so you can go on a road trip through the whole Danish countryside. Trains can also be considered if cars aren’t available. Certain islands, however, need ferryboats to reach.
The cost of living in Denmark is one of the highest in the world. However, the high cost brings with it plenty of facilities including easier transportation, inclusive services and best-rated accommodation.
Denmark has a long-standing Royal history and you can visit the Royal Palace and Royal Theater in Copenhagen. The country is filled with cathedrals and castles with the most popular ones being Kronborg Castle and Roskilde Cathedral. The country was also home to famed fairytale author, Hans Christian Andersen.
Denmark is the only Scandinavian country with somewhat non-extreme weather conditions. You could visit and enjoy the sights at any time of the year but we recommend going during the summer months of June, July and August.

Stream gatherers: A new way to manipulate Java streams
A code-first tour of the new customizable stream operators in java 22’s java.util.stream.gatherers interface..
Contributor, InfoWorld |
The Stream API and stream gatherers
What you can do with stream gatherers, stream gatherers' built-in methods.
Java 22 introduces stream gatherers , a new mechanism for manipulating streams of data. Stream gatherers are the delivered feature for JEP 461 , allowing developers to create custom intermediate operators that simplify complex operations. At first glance, stream gatherers seem a bit complex and obscure, and you might wonder why you'd need them. But when you are confronted with a situation that requires a certain kind of stream manipulation, gatherers become an obvious and welcome addition to the Stream API.
Java streams model dynamic collections of elements. As the spec says, “A stream is a lazily computed, potentially unbounded sequence of values.”
That means you can consume and operate on data streams endlessly. Think of it as sitting beside a river and watching the water flow past. You would never think to wait for the river to end. With streams, you just start working with the river and everything it contains. When you are done, you walk away.
The Stream API has several built-in methods for working on the elements in a sequence of values. These are the functional operators like filter and map .
In the Stream API, streams begin with a source of events, and operations like filter and map are known as “intermediate” operations. Each intermediate operation returns the stream, so you can compose them together. But with the Stream API, Java will not start applying any of these operations until the stream reaches a “terminal” operation. This supports efficient processing even with many operators chained together.
Stream's built-in intermediate operators are powerful, but they can’t cover the whole realm of imaginable requirements. For situations that are out of the box, we need a way to define custom operations. Gatherers give us that way.
Say you are on the side of the river and leaves are floating past with numbers written on them. If you want to do something simple, like create an array of all the even numbers you see, you can use the built-in filter method:
In the above example, we start with an array of integers (the source) and then turn it into a stream, applying a filter that only returns those numbers whose division by two leaves no remainder. The toArray() call is the terminal call. This is equivalent to checking each leaf for evenness and setting it aside if it passes.
The java.util.stream.Gatherers interface comes with a handful of built-in functions that enable you to build custom intermediate operations. Let's take a look at what each one does.
The windowFixed method
What if you wanted to take all the leaves floating by and collect them into buckets of two? This is surprisingly clunky to do with built-in functional operators. It requires transforming an array of single digits into an array of arrays.
The windowFixed method is a simpler way to gather your leaves into buckets:
This says: Give me a stream based on the iterating of integers by 1. Turn every two elements into a new array. Do it five times. Finally, turn the stream into a List . The result is:
Windowing is like moving a frame over the stream; it lets you take snapshots.
The windowSliding method
Another windowing function is windowSliding , which works like windowFixed() except each window starts on the next element in the source array, rather than at the end of the last window. Here's an example:
The output is:
Compare the windowSliding output with the output of windowFixed and you’ll see the difference. Each subarray in windowSliding contains the last element of the previous subarray, unlike windowFixed .
The Gatherers.fold method
Gatherers.fold is like a refined version of the Stream.reduce method. It’s a bit nuanced to see where fold() comes in handy over reduce() . A good discussion is found in this article . Here's what the author, Viktor Klang, has to say about the differences between fold and reduce :
Folding is a generalization of reduction. With reduction, the result type is the same as the element type, the combiner is associative, and the initial value is an identity for the combiner. For a fold, these conditions are not required, though we give up parallelizability.
So we see that reduce is a kind of fold . Reduction takes a stream and turns it into a single value. Folding also does this, but it loosens the requirements: 1) that the return type is of the same type as the stream elements; 2) that the combiner is associative; and 3) that the initializer on fold is an actual generator function, not a static value.
The second requirement is relevant to parallelization, which I'll discuss in more detail soon. Calling Stream.parallel on a stream means the engine can break out the work into multiple threads. This only works if the operator is associative; that is, it works if the ordering of operations does not affect the outcome.
Here’s a simple use of fold :
This example takes the collection of strings and combines them with commas. The same work done by reduce :
You can see that with fold , you define a function ( () -> “” ) instead of an initial value ( “” ). This means if you require more complex handling of the initiator, you can use the closure function.
Now let’s think about the advantages of fold with respect to a diversity of types. Say we have a stream of mixed-object types and we want to count occurrences:
The result var is 3. Notice the stream has a number, a string, and a Boolean. Performing a similar feat with reduce is difficult because the accumulator argument ( acc ) is strongly typed:
We could use a collector to perform this work:
But then we’ve lost access to the initializer and folding functions body if we need more involved logic.
The Gatherers.scan method
Scan is something like windowFixed but it accumulates the elements into a single element instead of an array. Again, an example gives more clarity (this example is from the Javadocs ):
So, scan lets us move through the stream elements and combine them cumulatively.
The mapConcurrent method
With mapConcurrent , you can specify a maximum number of threads to use concurrently in running the map function provided. Virtual threads will be used. Here’s a simple example that limits the concurrency to four threads while squaring numbers (note that mapConcurrent is overkill for such a simple dataset):
Besides the thread max, mapConcurrent works exactly like the standard map function.
Until stream gatherers are promoted as a feature, you still need to use the --enable-preview flag to access the Gatherer interface and its features. An easy way to experiment is using JShell: $ jshell --enable-preview .
Although they are not a daily need, stream gatherers fill in some long-standing gaps in the Stream API and make it easier for developers to extend and customize functional Java programs.

Govt urged to give diesel subsidy to van and tour bus operators

Govt confident of achieving 2024 inflation, GDP forecasts even with diesel subsidy retargeting
Quickcheck: are diesel car owners eligible for a rm200 subsidy, domestic trade ministry ready to help tow truck operators in appeal for diesel subsidy, says fuziah.
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Tourism Federation (MTF) has urged the government to implement an immediate and substantial diesel subsidy mechanism for van and tour bus operators.
MTF president Datuk Tan Kok Liang said floating diesel prices have inflicted severe financial losses on tour operators and travel agencies already grappling with an extremely competitive business environment.
He said it is not just about passing the extra costs to tourists but also honouring contractual tour package arrangements and established obligations spanning the next six to nine months.
"Tourism business involves goodwill and relationships, and some of these key source destinations are particularly price-sensitive, especially the Indian, ASEAN, and Chinese markets," Tan said in a statement on Monday (June 24).
He called on the government to recognise that most tour operators were micro, small, and medium enterprises, adding that they were already fighting for survival in a fiercely competitive regional and global market.
Tan proposed an extension of the RM2.15 per litre rate in diesel subsidies for the sector up to March 31, 2025.
He also proposed a minimum quota allocation of 3,000 litres of diesel subsidies each month for each vehicle up to March 31, 2025.
"Remedial action is critical to provide tour operators the necessary time to adjust to the new pricing structure and alleviate the financial burden caused by rising diesel costs. Tour operators are the backbone of our tourism industry and vital to our economy.
"While we understand and support the objectives of the Madani government and the rationalisation of diesel subsidies, the industry requires immediate and decisive support from public stakeholders to navigate this crisis," Tan said.
Tan said each trip made by buses on pre-committed rates prior to the diesel subsidy rationalisation incurred losses, adding that it is unsustainable for tour operators.
"Each month, tour operators are losing approximately RM3,600 per bus based on the average consumption rate of 3,000 litres per month and the diesel price increase," he said.
Tan stated that there are about 10,000 tourism vehicles on the road without targeted assistance for the next six months, adding that tourism operators could lose more than RM100mil over the same period.
"The tourism ecosystem comprises multiple service providers and intermediaries. Ultimately, the final contractual party may have to bear the brunt of the increase," Tan said, urging the Finance, Transport, and Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministries to act swiftly and consider their proposals.
