How to Get Verified on YouTube [Cheat Sheet]

Wondering how to get verified on YouTube? This post will walk you through the steps and help you learn more about the coveted YouTube verification badge.

cover image

Once you’ve established your channel and built up a solid following, it’s natural to start thinking about how to get verified on YouTube.

The YouTube verification badge provides your account with the ultimate credibility, showing the world that YouTube has confirmed you are who you say you are. Not everyone can get it. But for those who are eligible, it’s an important YouTube milestone.

Here’s everything you know to get verified.

Table of Contents

Bonus: Download the free 30-day plan to grow your YouTube following fast , a daily workbook of challenges that will help you kickstart your Youtube channel growth and track your success. Get real results after one month.

What is YouTube verification?

YouTube verification actually means two different things. The simplest kind of YouTube verification simply involves verifying your phone number with a code sent to your phone. This ensures you’re a real person and not a bot. This type of YouTube verification is available to anyone and unlocks a few extra YouTube features:

  • Upload videos longer than 15 minutes
  • Use custom thumbnails
  • Live stream on YouTube
  • Appeal Content ID claims.

To check whether you have verified your account, go to Settings > Account and click Channel status and features . If your account is verified, you’ll see Enabled in green next to Features that require phone verification .

Youtube channel feature eligibility

How to get verified on YouTube 4.png

But people also say “YouTube verification” or “verify YouTube account” when they mean getting an official YouTube channel verification badge, which looks like a gray check mark or music note.

CNN channel check mark verified channel

This verification badge provides credibility. It tells the world that this is the official channel of a creator, artist, brand, or public figure. And, perhaps most importantly, it helps prevent impostors.

How to verify your YouTube account in 4 steps

Note: To get the simple phone verification mentioned above, which is available to anyone and unlocks extra features, just make sure you’re logged into YouTube and go to YouTube.com/verify .

To get an official YouTube verification badge, follow these steps:

Step 1. Head to the application page

Go to the YouTube channel verification application.

If your channel is eligible to apply for verification, you’ll see the application form. If you’re not yet eligible, you’ll see a message telling you to come back when you’ve reached 100K subscribers.

Note : If you don’t have 100,000 subscribers yet, don’t panic! Scroll down for tips on getting to 100K, and on how to bolster your credibility even without a YouTube verification badge.

Step 2. Complete the form

Fill out the application form. You’ll need your channel name and ID. If you don’t know your channel ID, you can click the link below the channel ID box in the form to find it.

Source: YouTube

You can also find your channel ID at any time from your YouTube account under Settings > Advanced settings .

Once you’ve completed the form, click Submit .

Step 3. Wait

Now you just have to wait while YouTube verifies your account, which can take up to a couple of weeks. YouTube says , “We’ll check different factors to help verify your identity, such as the age of your channel.”

They might also ask you to provide more information or documentation to prove your legitimacy.

Step 4. Maintain your verification

Once you get your coveted badge, here’s what you can do to make sure you don’t lose your verification.

Don’t violate the Terms of Service or Community Guidelines

It’s one thing to get verified on YouTube; it’s another thing to stay verified. Even though you’ve met all the criteria and got a verification badge, YouTube can and will take it away if you violate their Terms of Service or Community Guidelines .

Don’t change your channel name

If you change your channel name, you’ll lose your badge as well. You can apply for verification again using the new name. But since the whole point of the badge is to confirm you are who you say you are, changing your name regularly is not a good idea.

Who can get the YouTube verification badge?

To get the YouTube channel verification badge, you need to meet the eligibility requirements :

  • Have at least 100,000 subscribers. For help on that front, check out our blog post on how to get more YouTube subscribers .
  • Be who you say you are. YouTube puts this succinctly : “Your channel must represent the real creator, brand, or entity it claims to be.” Makes sense for verification, right? YouTube will check you out and may ask for documentation.
  • Have an active, public, and complete channel. You need a channel banner, description, and profile image, and you need to be regularly uploading content to YouTube.

You might see a verification badge on channels with fewer than 100,000 subscribers. This can happen for a couple of reasons.

First, YouTube verification requirements have changed over time, and the channel may have been verified under previous requirements. Or, secondly, YouTube will sometimes proactively verify a channel that is relatively small on YouTube but well-known elsewhere.

The eligibility requirements for the Official Artist Channel music note verification badge are a bit different:

  • Represent just one artist or band.
  • Have at least one official music video on YouTube distributed by a music distributor or label.
  • Work with a YouTube Partner Manager or be part of a label network that works with a Partner Manager.
  • Participate in the YouTube Partner Program.
  • Have your music distributed by a music partner listed in the YouTube Services Directory for Music Partners .

How to improve your channel’s credibility without a YouTube verification badge

Even if you’re not yet eligible to apply for YouTube verification, you can still take steps to show that your YouTube account is the official one for your brand:

  • Choose the right channel name . Your brand name is an obvious choice. For creators, choose something unique that helps you stand out from the competition.
  • Use an easily recognizable profile picture. This shows up in search results as well as on your channel, and helps show YouTube users that they’ve found the right account.
  • Use YouTube’s customization options to manage your channel layout , banner image, and watermark. All of these options boost your credibility.
  • Create a unique and consistent YouTube aesthetic . Your videos should look like your videos. When housed together on your channel, they create a recognizable body of work.
  • Engage with your followers . Respond to comments to show you’re a real person who cares what your viewers think.
  • Report impostors. If someone is impersonating you or your channel, report them to YouTube. Go to the channel page you want to report, click About , and then click the Report flag .

Note that YouTube verification is not required to earn money on YouTube. If you want to gain access to YouTube’s monetization options and Creator support teams, you instead want to apply for the YouTube Partner Program . It has eligibility requirements too, but they’re much easier to reach for creators. You need to:

  • Have 1,000 subscribers
  • Have 4,000 valid public watch hours in the last 12 months
  • Be in good standing with YouTube (no policy violations)
  • Turn on two-step verification
  • Follow YouTube monetization policies
  • Live in a country where the program is available
  • Have a linked AdSense account

Taylor Swift can do it with a broken mic.

The 34-year-old pop songstress handled a sound and wardrobe malfunction like a pro over the weekend, boldly untying her entire dress onstage as she attempted to rectify a technical difficulty. In a video shared on social media, Swift is seen on night three of her Eras Tour stop at Friends Arena in Stokholm, Sweden, messing with a mic pack attached to the back of her costume during the surprise songs section of her show.

After telling fans that the device had "come undone," Swift jokingly asked the audience to "just talk amongst yourselves" for a moment. She then quickly moved to another part of he stage and took a seat at her piano while fully opening her blue wrap dress for better access to the mic pack. Underneath, Swift was still wearing her two piece costume from "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart," which came right before the surprise songs in her setlist.

Eventually, a crew member came to Swift's aid to help get the situation under control. The "Fortnight" singer did a silly little dance as she re-attached her costume and went on with the show.

"Stockholm!!!! Thank you for being the most generous, excitable, magical crowds, and for breaking the all time attendance record for the stadium all 3 nights," Swift wrote on Instagram after the show. "Can’t believe this was our first time playing in Sweden - but it won’t be our last…"

Swift kicked off her revamped Eras Tour earlier this month in Paris after dropping her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department , and adding an entirely new section to her live show. Following her three-night run in Stockholm, Swift is set to perform next in Lisbon, Portugal, on Friday and Saturday.

This after the performer enjoyed a romantic getaway with her beau  Travis Kelce  in Lake Como, Italy. The duo were seen at one point traveling via boat -- and sharing a kiss -- while heading to have dinner at a popular eatery.

Kelce had previously been  on hand  to support Swift at one of her shows in Paris, seeing her perform two new songs that are rumored to be about him for the first time.

"I don't know if they're just getting better or if I just keep forgetting how they are,"  Kelce said  of the concert on his  New Heights  podcast last week. "It was electric."

"It just looks like they're having so much fun up there and they're absolutely killing it," he added of the production. "They're putting on a show that you won't get anywhere else."

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end noted that he plans to be "all over the world" the rest of the summer, prompting many to believe that he may pop up at Swift's other upcoming European concerts.

"It's like the yin to my yang," he said. "Football, it keeps me  locked in to Kansas City  during the season and I just gotta fly around and have some fun in the offseason."

Things are going so well between the pair that  a source told ET  that "their loved ones see an engagement coming sooner than later."

"They make a great match," the source added. "There's no question about that."

Childish Gambino Announces Massive 2024 Tour

By Jazz Monroe

Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover

Childish Gambino has announced a tour of North America, Europe, and Australasia, billed as the New World Tour. Donald Glover will take Amaarae and Willow along for select dates. The stint marks his first tour since 2019, and follows the release last night of Atavista , which he’s called “the finished version” of his 2020 record, 3.15.20 . Find the tour dates below.

The last time Childish Gambino went on tour, he had just dropped the internet-breaking single “ This Is America ” and his Summer Pack EP , off the back of his 2016 album, “Awaken, My Love!” That year, he headlined Coachella and dropped Guava Island , his movie with Rihanna.

A lot has happened since then, most of it on screen. He ended his critically acclaimed TV show Atlanta with a fourth season , put pop fandom under a microscope with the limited series Swarm , and rebooted the 2005 movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith as a show in which he stars opposite Maya Erskine. He also shifted Lando , his upcoming Star Wars project, from a Disney+ series to a Lucasfilm movie.

In March 2020, Glover uploaded an unfinished studio album to the website donaldgloverpresents.com before taking it down. It reappeared on streaming services a week later under the name 3.15.20 , and has now been touched up and rereleased as Atavista . Glover shared a video for “Little Foot Big Foot,” featuring Young Nudy , to go along with the news.

Scottie Scheffler arrested by police before second round

World number one golfer Scottie Scheffler was charged with assaulting a police officer outside Valhalla Golf Club hours before starting his second round at the 2024 PGA Championship.

Scheffler — who was also charged with third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic — was released by police just in time to take to the course for his tee-off time of 10:08am ET. He impressed with a five-under round of 66 that moved him into third, at nine-under for the tournament.

The Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections, who posted a mugshot of the 27-year-old, said he was booked in at 7.28am local time and released at 8.40am. Scheffler later described the incident as “a big misunderstanding”.

The start of Friday’s second round was delayed by 80 minutes because of an unrelated crash near the course . Louisville police said a shuttle bus had struck and killed a pedestrian outside the golf club. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg later named him as local man John Mills.

Xander Schauffele 36-hole leader at PGA Championship with Morikawa, Scheffler chasing

Xander Schauffele stepped onto the first tee Friday at Valhalla Golf Club after a historic first round at the PGA Championship. He shot a 9-under 62, giving him the 18-hole lead. It tied the men’s major scoring record, the lowest round in PGA Championship history.

Friday’s round for Schauffele didn’t smash records or set career-scoring bests. But it kept the 30-year-old atop the PGA Championship leaderboard heading into the weekend.

Schauffele shot a second-round 68, giving him the 36-hole lead. It’s the second consecutive week Schauffele led a tournament after 36 holes. Last week, Schauffele couldn’t secure the win, thanks to a dominant performance from Rory McIlroy.

The seven-time PGA Tour winner is looking for a different outcome this week, attempting to capture his first major championship.

Watch out for Bryson

This is the second time Bryson DeChambeau has started a major with back-to-back rounds in the 60s.

The other was his win at the 2020 U.S. Open.

Koepka records 8 birdies in second round

It was a roller coaster second round for Brooks Koepka.

He shot a 3-under 68, which consisted of eight birdies.

But it also included three bogeys and a double.

Koepka sits at 7-under-par, five off the lead held by Xander Schauffele.

Tiger birdies 18 but misses cut

Woods 7-over-par

(Photo: David Cannon / Getty Images)

Tiger Woods finished the 2024 PGA Championship at 7-over-par.

He shot a 6-over 77 in his second round.

But Tiger finished the PGA at Valhalla, where he won this event in 2000, with a birdie on 18.

Woods hasn't made a cut at the PGA since 2020.

Schauffele shoots second-round 68

Best 36-hole score to par in PGA Championship history:

2019 Brooks Koepka, -12 (led by seven)

2024 Xander Schauffele, -12

Here comes Koepka

Brooks Koepka 8-under-par

(Photo: Maddie Meyer/Getty Images)

Brooks Koepka had a double bogey on the par-5 10th.

He's rallied with three birdies since, including one on the par-4 15th.

Koepka has seven birdies on the day and is four off the lead at 8-under-par.

What's at stake for Robert MacIntyre

Robert MacIntyre has never previously been in the top 20 entering the third round of a major.

Where PGA champions need to be after 36 holes

31 of the last 34 winners of the PGA Championship have been in the top 10 through 36 holes.

Over the last 30 years, 91 percent of men's major winners have been in the top 10 entering the third round.

McIlroy going in the wrong direction

Rory McIlroy, who won the PGA the last time it was staged at Valhalla, is going in the wrong direction.

After being 1-under-par through 11 holes, McIlroy records a double-bogey 6 on the par-4 12th.

He is 4-under-par for the tournament, eight back of the lead.

Needs a strong finish coming in to get back in the mix.

Inside the most bizarre day in major golf with the arrest of Scottie Scheffler

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The most shocking day in golf major championship history began with a tragedy, and saw Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 male player in the world, arrested, booked into a local jail and released in time to tee off.

It was just after 5 a.m. on a rainy Friday morning that police were called to the street outside of Valhalla Golf Club. A shuttle bus traveling down Shelbyville Road struck and killed John Mills, a local man working the PGA Championship for a tournament vendor.

The fatal wreck caused traffic to be shut down in both directions outside of Valhalla, which is hosting the major championship for the first time in a decade. Scheffler arrived at the scene an hour later, amid a steady rain and flashing police lights, seeking to enter the property and begin preparation for an 8:48 a.m. tee time for Round 2 of the PGA Championship. A police and security presence outside of a major championship routine is typical, even common. “I drive by cops like that probably 10 times a year,” one PGA Tour swing coach said, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter.

What happened next was anything but common. When Scheffler, traveling eastbound, attempted to move his vehicle into the westbound lane, according to the Louisville Police Department arrest report, detective Bryan Gillis attempted to stop the vehicle. The police report said Scheffler continued forward, “dragging Detective Gillis to the ground,” and noted that he suffered injuries that required medical treatment, as well as irreparable damage to his $80 uniform pants. Jeff Darlington, an ESPN NFL reporter assigned to cover the second golf major of the year, happened to be on the scene and watched it unfold, reporting that Scheffler’s vehicle moved 10 to 20 yards before coming to a final stop.

Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines, said Scheffler was originally instructed to go in and that the officer directing traffic was not part of the event traffic detail. “So that’s where the miscommunication arose and that’s why we’re here,” Romines said Friday morning.

When Scheffler did stop, he lowered his window and the officer reached in, grabbed Scheffler’s arm and pulled the door open, Darlington reported. The officer then put Scheffler in handcuffs and pushed him against the car. As Scheffler was escorted toward a police car in the rainy dark, a video filmed by Darlington showed Scheffler turning to say, “Can you help?”

“You need to get out of the way,” another officer told Darlington. “Right now, he’s going to jail, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

Schauffele drops a shot, lead is 1

Xander Schauffele makes his first bogey of the week.

The last player to go the first 36 holes of a PGA Championship without a single bogey is Hale Irwin in 1993.

Schauffele falls to 12-under-par, one ahead of Collin Morikawa.

Xander Schauffele is now 13-under.

The lowest 36-hole score to par in men's major championship history is 14 under by Jordan Spieth at the 2015 Masters.

Will Zalatoris: Players discussed delaying, canceling PGA Championship second round

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A small group of players discussed not playing the second round of the PGA Championship as scheduled following the death of a pedestrian outside of Valhalla Golf Club, as well as the arrest of world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

Will Zalatoris detailed the 20-30 minute conversation, which took place in the Valhalla locker room, to a small group of reporters after his round Friday afternoon. The group of unnamed players considered approaching the PGA of America about the cancellation or delay of Friday’s play, he said.

“Some of the guys were talking about, wondering if we should even play today,” Zalatoris said. “At one point there were a group of guys in the locker room talking about going to the PGA of America about it, but I think it was dead in the water in the locker room. It was bizarre. We just didn’t know … when Scottie was going to get out, any of the details.”

Tee times were delayed by one hour and 20 minutes on Friday after a shuttle bus struck and killed John Mills, who was working for a tournament vendor. The PGA moved the first tee times from 7:15 a.m. ET to 8:35.

During his Friday post-round news conference, Scottie Scheffler said that he was "going to go back to his normal routine." That includes having a meal, practicing in the afternoon, going to the gym before heading home and getting some rest before the weekend.

Well, the broadcast showed Scheffler practicing bunker shots and signing autographs for fans.

He fires a 3-under 32 on the front nine, which includes a lengthy birdie on the 9th hole.

Schauffele makes the turn at 12-under-par, one shot ahead of Collin Morikawa.

Scottie Scheffler climbs PGA Championship leaderboard hours after arrest

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Scottie Scheffler, the world’s most dominant golfer, rose up the leaderboard of the PGA Championship on Friday, hours after he was arrested while trying to navigate a traffic backup caused by a crash that killed a pedestrian outside Valhalla Golf Club.

In an extraordinary sequence of events over about three hours, Scheffler was handcuffed while arriving at the course before sunrise, booked while wearing an orange jumpsuit in downtown Louisville and driven back to the course with stunned crowds following his every move as his newly hired local lawyer told reporters that he would comply with an investigation into his interaction with a police officer who was directing traffic. Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.

Scheffler’s day on the course finally began at 10:08 a.m. ET, when he teed off nearly four hours after his arrest. He went on to shoot a 5-under-par 66, climbing into a tie for third on the leaderboard. Scheffler, who said he began stretching in a jail cell Friday in hopes of returning to Valhalla in time for his tee time, said after the round his head was “spinning.”

“It was a chaotic situation and a big misunderstanding,” Scheffler said.

Following his second-round 66, Scottie Scheffler high-fived fans as he walked off the course to sign his scorecard.

Two spectators had T-shirts with Scheffler's face. One of the tees showed Scheffler's mugshot that the Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections posted Friday morning when the World No. 1 was booked in downtown Louisville.

Scottie Scheffler said he feels his head is “still spinning” after the sequence of events he experienced on Friday. He was arrested and handcuffed Friday morning while arriving at the course before sunrise, booked in an orange jumpsuit in downtown Louisville, then returned to Valhalla Golf Club and shot a second-round 66 at the PGA Championship.

Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. His arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m., according to online court records, two days after the PGA Championship is scheduled to end.

Asked to encapsulate what transpired, Scheffler described his pre-round routine, which took place in jail.

“I did spend some time stretching in a jail cell that was a first for me,” Scheffler said after his second round.

Scheffler said his “main focus after getting arrested” was whether he could continue playing in the PGA Championship. He said that he was in “shock” when he got arrested and that he was “shaking for an hour,” trying to calm down.

While getting fingerprinted in jail, Scheffler said a police officer offered him a sandwich.

“Sure, I’ll take a sandwich, I didn’t eat breakfast yet,” Scheffler said.

Scheffler teed off at 10:08 a.m., nearly four hours after his arrest. He described Friday's round as “pretty good.”

“It was nice to be able to put together a solid round today for sure,” Scheffler said.

This isn’t pleasant to watch: Tiger Woods, a 15-time major winner, has carded his second triple-bogey seven in the space of three holes.

This time his game deserts him on the fourth, having also bogeyed the third. He’s now eight over — seven over for the round — and his hopes of making it to the weekend are long gone.

Apply for channel verification

You can submit a request for a channel verification once you have 100,000 subscribers. It looks like your channel isn't eligible yet.

Make sure you're signed in with the email address for the eligible channel. Click your profile picture in the top-right and choose that account.

To see if your channel is eligible to request verification, click Sign in at the top-right.

We won’t verify channels that are trying to impersonate another creator or brand. If we find a channel is deliberately impersonating someone else, we may take more actions.

About verified channels

If a channel is verified, it's the official channel of a creator, artist, company, or public figure. Verified channels help distinguish official channels from other channels with similar names on YouTube.

Keep in mind...

  • Verified channels don't get extra features on YouTube. They also don’t represent awards, milestones, or endorsement from YouTube. For info on awards, learn more about YouTube’s Creator Awards program .
  • If your channel is verified, it will stay verified unless you change your channel name. If you change your channel name, the renamed channel won’t be verified, and you'll need to reapply.
  • Changing your channel’s handle will not remove your verification badge.
  • YouTube reserves the right to revoke verification or terminate channels that violate our Community Guidelines or the YouTube Terms of Service .
  • Verification has changed over time, so you may see many types of channels with verification on YouTube.

Verified channel eligibility

To be eligible to apply for verification, your channel must reach 100,000 subscribers.

After you apply, we’ll review your channel. We verify channels that:

  • Are authentic : Your channel must represent the real creator, brand, or entity it claims to be. We’ll check different factors to help verify your identity, such as the age of your channel. We may also ask for more info or documentation.
  • Are complete : Your channel must be public and have a channel banner, description, and profile picture. The channel also needs to have content and be active on YouTube.

Sometimes, YouTube may also proactively verify channels with fewer than 100,000 subscribers that are well-known outside of YouTube.

Distinguish your channel without verification

If your channel isn't verified, here are some other ways to distinguish your channel from similar channels:

  • Use a unique channel name or handle that represents who you are and the type of content you publish.
  • Use a high-quality image for your profile picture to make your channel look professional in search results.
  • Customize your channel layout and branding for a personalized look and feel on your channel homepage.

Cameron brink wants to flaunt body for s.i. swimsuit issue, 'super empowering', cameron brink i wanna pose for s.i. swimsuit issue ... it's 'super empowering'.

WNBA star Cameron Brink is waiting by the phone to get a call from the folks at Sports Illustrated ... revealing she'd love the opportunity to pose for the publication's famous swimsuit issue!!

The L.A. Sparks rookie -- who recently graced the cover of SLAM -- joined Paul George 's "Podcast P" show this week ... and early on in the episode, she shared her wish list of other mags she'd love to work with in the future.

Brink initially explained ESPN's Body Issue would be right up her alley ... saying it's a cool way for jocks to show off the physiques they work so hard to achieve.

"I think just as a female athlete, the Body Issue is always just, like, dope," Brink said.

"Just to see how your body purely as an athlete, to appreciate -- our bodies are our machines, that's how we make our money. So I think that's always a really cool concept."

Unfortunately for Brink, the outlet discontinued the Body Issue in 2019 ... so that ain't happening unless something changes -- but there's another mag she name-dropped that's still kickin' after 60 years.

"Or Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, I've always loved that," Brink added. "I think it's super empowering."

Of course, Brink is basically a pro in front of the camera at this point -- aside from SLAM, she also posed for Kim Kardashian 's SKIMS undies earlier this month .

Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.

There have been plenty of athletes who have shown off their bikini bods for S.I. over the years -- including fellow 2024 draft pick Angel Reese , LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne and other WNBAers like Sue Bird , Breanna Stewart , Te'a Cooper and Nneka Ogwumike .

Don't be surprised if Brink's dream comes true ... 'cause this seems like a slam dunk.
