PRIORITY ACCESS AND BUILDING SERVICES

The Coliseum is a fully accessible venue.  Outside of the Coliseum, curb ramps are enhanced to increase accessibility from key parking lot approaches.

Every gate has a priority line for guests with mobility impairments up until 30 minutes before the start of the event. Within the final 30 minutes, all lanes will be open to all guests.

Accessible seating sections feature in-seat service for patrons in wheelchairs or with restricted mobility.  Information cards will be provided at your seating location during the event.

Handrails and more aisles have been added to make it easier for guests who need a little more help to navigate the stairs and get to their seats. We’ve also added more semi-ambulatory seats, which are aisle seats with arm rests that raise to make it easier to transfer to the seat.

We encourage all guests with mobility disabilities to utilize personal forms of transportation, including wheelchairs and scooters. If you need to recharge your motorized wheelchair, you may do so at the West Administration Building, located across from Tunnel 11. Patrons should bring all cords and accessories needed to charge their devices. Chargers must use a 110-volt, 20 amp circuit. We cannot provide wheelchair or scooter rentals.

An online map with locations of ADA services can be found by clicking here .

ACCESSIBLE SEATING

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum can accommodate guests in wheelchairs or with restricted mobility. The Coliseum features multiple areas at Street level that do not require ramps or lifts to access. Situated at a midpoint between field level and the uppermost rows of the Coliseum, these areas can be accessed directly through accessible tunnels, which lead into the seating area of the Coliseum. These locations are situated around most of the circumference of the venue.

People who require accessible seating because of a disability are permitted to purchase tickets for accessible seats. Tickets for accessible seats may be sold to individuals who require accessible seating themselves or to someone purchasing on their behalf. People with disabilities who do not require the specific features of accessible seating but merely prefer them are not entitled to purchase accessible seats. Reserved seating in designated sections is available in advance, on a season or individual event basis, based on availability.

On event day, guests who previously purchased a non-accessible game ticket but require accessible seating will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis, based on availability.

For assistance, please contact the USC Ticket Office at (213) 740-GOSC(4672)

Olympians April Ross and Alix Klineman hope their return to AVP inspires moms

April Ross’ mind suddenly goes blank. The thought she wanted to share has blown through her consciousness like the fleeting breeze on a cloudy morning on the beach volleyball courts near Hermosa Beach Pier.

“Mom brain!” Ross says, covering her face with her hands.

The three-time Olympic medalist has a lot more than volleyball on her mind these days. She wouldn’t have it any other way.

Two years since her last tournament, Ross has earned a master’s degree, started her coaching career and become a mother. Now with 6-month-old son Ross at home, the former USC star is preparing for her competitive return to the sand with former Olympic partner Alix Klineman at the AVP Huntington Beach Open, which begins Thursday at Huntington Beach Pier.

Olympic beach volleyball gold medalists April Ross, right, and Alix Klineman work out in Hermosa Beach

The reigning Olympic champions will play together for the first time since October 2021 on Friday. But they insist they’re not back for unfinished business. Ross, who has Olympic medals of every color, has “been there, done that,” she wrote on Instagram. With her own firstborn at home, Klineman admits the pressure is off for “The A-Team.”

These new mothers are playing on their own terms.

“It’s something that we’re consciously choosing to do; it’s not out of this desperation to accomplish something,” said Klineman, who gave birth to her son Theo last June. “I still enjoyed it a lot before, but this is kind of a different way of playing. … Just doing it for the love of the game.”

The 41-year-old Ross says her return is “just gravy” on the top of her illustrious career. But it hasn’t been demoted to just a hobby.

Tokyo, Japan, Friday, August 6, 2021 - April Ross (1), left and Alix Klineman.

April Ross and Alix Klineman win gold for U.S. in women’s beach volleyball

April Ross and Alix Klineman won gold for the United States in beach volleyball, defeating Australia at the Tokyo Olympics on Friday.

Aug. 5, 2021

At a recent practice at Hermosa Beach, Ross and Klineman were breathing hard after an hourlong session in the sand. They dove for balls and hit creative shots over the net into strategically marked areas in the corners of the court. When Ross pushed a seemingly simple shot wide, she lamented she was trying too hard.

Ross admits she’s not yet who she was on the sand before having a baby, but she’s still happy with who she is.

When she began training in February, Ross could barely last 45 minutes. She struggled to even shuffle a few steps in the sand. She was 30 pounds heavier than when she last played in 2022 and had almost no muscle.

“I just felt so slow and so heavy,” Ross said.

Three months later, Ross no longer feels limited. It feels like she shed a 20-pound weight vest. A five-time best server in the world, Ross can jump serve again and dive for digs behind Klineman’s intimidating 6-foot-5 block.

April Ross, left, and teammate Alix Klineman wearing USA jerseys as they hold up an American flag and celebrate.

The 34-year-old Mira Costa alumna who also starred for Stanford’s indoor team sympathizes with Ross’ quick comeback. Klineman was back in the sand six weeks after she gave birth to her son. She remembers how drained she felt when she was breastfeeding while trying to train for the 2023 world championships, which took place four months after Theo was born. Ross is still nursing and getting up multiple times each night with the baby.

“I don’t want people to think, ‘Oh, we’re back to Olympic form.’ No,” Klineman said, “we’re doing the best we can with the timeline we were given. We just want to be out here, have fun and hopefully challenge some of the top teams.”

Ross and Klineman are seeded second in the Huntington Beach Open main draw, which begins play Friday after Thursday’s qualification rounds. Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss, the second-ranked team in the world, are the top-seeded pair, while Paris-bound Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng are seeded third. Hughes and Cheng clinched their trip to the Olympics by winning the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship in October.

A potential Olympic berth was in Klineman’s mind when she started training last year. She paired with 26-year-old Hailey Harward, who won two national championships at USC, for two international tournaments. But with an almost impossible rankings mountain in such a short window, Klineman stepped away. She understood that returning would require sacrificing time with her son, and she wasn’t going to give up precious moments with the baby for anything insignificant.

Then Ross reached out.

Ross last played in a tournament in March 2022 with Emily Capers while Klineman was recovering from shoulder surgery. Ross then had to withdraw from world championships in June because of a shoulder injury.

April Ross, left, and Alix Klineman wearing visors and sunglasses as they celebrate a goal on the sand near a volleyball net

Then 40 years old, Ross finally had to confront the potential end of her playing career. Volleyball had been her whole life until that point. She felt lost without it.

Ross started piecing together a life outside the court by enrolling in Concordia’s master’s program for coaching and athletics administration. She started coaching as a grad assistant for the Golden Eagles. Then she became a mom.

“Now that I have a son, it almost feels like I have a new life,” said Ross, who graduated with her master’s this spring. “He has his whole life in front of him, and it’s just really, really reenergized me.”

Before playing with Klineman in Tokyo, Ross won Olympic bronze with Kerri Walsh Jennings in the 2016 games and took silver in London with Jen Kessy. Walsh Jennings and Kessy both continued playing after having children. Walsh Jennings, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and mother of three, won gold in 2012 while five weeks pregnant.

But even playing with partners who were mothers and seeing other players have children on tour didn’t prepare Ross for just how difficult the task was, she said. She leans on Klineman for advice. Nearly every day, Klineman wonders how people pull this off.

USC coach Dain Blanton holds up four fingers to celebrate the Trojans winning their fourth beach national title

‘You don’t see four-peats.’ Inside USC beach volleyball coach Dain Blanton’s dominance

Dain Blanton, an Olympic gold medalist, had no prior head coaching experience before leading USC to four consecutive beach volleyball national titles.

May 12, 2024

“I look at Kerri and I’m like, why didn’t she make a bigger deal of this? She went to three Olympics with kids. That’s insane,” Klineman said. “I feel like until recently, it’s just something that you try to almost act like it’s not an issue for you. … I feel like the bigger deal of it you made, it was like a sign of weakness or something in a way. And now I feel like the place that women’s sports is in, there’s nothing that shouldn’t be talked about.”

Already adept at using social media to pursue endorsement deals that are vital in beach volleyball, Ross has taken to the internet to share candid truths about being a mother in sports. The breast-feeding mother joked about needing the support of two sports bras while running on the sand. She advocated for paid parental leave by sharing her recovery from an unplanned C-section. While holding her smiling son in a pool on vacation, Ross pointed out that the social media photos are curated highlights of the baby’s first trip, which was equal parts bliss and stress.

Last month, Ross reposted a reel of their gold medal match in Tokyo, writing in the caption: “Relishing the last few months of being the REIGNING Olympic Champions!” With the next AVP Heritage Event — the Manhattan Beach Open on Aug. 16-18 — taking place after the Paris Olympics, the Huntington Beach Open is the last time Ross and Klineman will take the sand as the current gold medalists.

But they are ready to carry another torch for working mothers in sports.

“I don’t know that we’re going to necessarily go to another Olympics,” Klineman said, “but if we can help forage the path forward, it would be really rewarding for us.”

Georgia Tech Reportedly Contacts Coastal Carolina Transfer Offensive Lineman Will McDonald

Jackson caudell | 21 hours ago.

Nov 12, 2022; Conway, South Carolina, USA; Coastal Carolina Chanticleers mascot Chauncey (left) and

The spring transfer portal windown has been closed, but the players that were already in there can still make their choice on where to go next for their college career.

One of those players in Coastal Carolina offensive lineman Will McDonald, who was reportedly contacted by Georgia Tech according to On3 Sports Pete Nakos. Now, it is tough to say the level of interest based off of this, but I do think it is interesting. Nakos mentioned that McDonald is set to visit Cal and is also drawing interest from UCF and Arkansas.

Coastal Carolina offensive lineman Will McDonald tells @On3sports he's visiting Cal this week. The All-Sun Belt selection has started 26 career games. The left guard has also been in contact with Arkansas, Georgia Tech and UCF. Read: https://t.co/6TS2VxCC5U pic.twitter.com/QFwsnIjQLZ — Pete Nakos (@PeteNakos_) May 15, 2024

Georgia Tech has added one offensive lineman through the transfer portal during this spring window, bringing in Kentucky's Nick Pearson. The Yellow Jackets have been more defensive-focused in terms of bringing in transfers through the portal, but they are still adding depth to one of the ACC's best offensive lines.

McDonald is a grad transfer with one year of eligibility left and he has played 1,640 snaps in his career. He was a Preseason All-Sun Belt Second Team selection heading into the 2023 season. He finished as a third-team All-Sun Belt offensive lineman. He played left guard for Coastal Carolina and only allowed three sacks on 823 career pass-blocking snaps

Soon-to-be graduates with the USC Trojan Marching Band show their spirit during Thursday night’s event at the Coliseum. (USC Photo/Gus Ruelas)

USC graduates and families get Coliseum send-off at Trojan Family Graduate Celebration

COMMENCEMENT : The event gave the USC Class of 2024 one final moment in the Coliseum as students.

A brisk night under the lights at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is usually a fall tradition at USC. However, on Thursday night, the lights were on, the torch was lit, the USC Trojan Marching Band was on the field, and cardinal and gold-clad Trojan supporters flowed through the gates. Fireworks illuminated the Coliseum, and drones spelled out the iconic “Fight On” in the sky.

But this wasn’t a football game — it was the first-ever Trojan Family Graduate Celebration, a night that gave the Class of 2024, as well as their families and friends, a memorable send-off.

Nadine Watt, president of the USC Alumni Association Board of Governors, said that although Thursday’s event was a break from the norm, it was a fitting way to salute the latest class of Trojans.

USC 2024 commencement, Trojan Family Graduate Celebration

“I can’t think of a better place to celebrate than the Coliseum,” said Watt, who spoke from a stage near the east end zone of the field. “My hope is that tonight brought back [Coliseum] memories, and that you have new ones to take with you.”

Words of encouragement

USC alumni, academic deans and supporters shared pre-recorded words of encouragement with the Class of 2024. Comedian and television host Jimmy Kimmel, comedian and actor Will Ferrell, actor Mark Hamill, athletics coaches and USC athletic director Jennifer Cohen, among others, acknowledged that this class in particular pushed through unprecedented times to reach this milestone.

“Getting into USC and graduating from one of the most prestigious universities in the world is not a small feat,” Cohen said. “Thank you for making our community so special, and remember that you’re always a part of the Trojan Family.”

Actor Matthew Lillard — the father of a current Trojan who graduated from high school in 2020 — lauded the Class of 2024 for its perseverance through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“To be accepted to such an incredible institution and then graduate in four short years is an absolute achievement,” Lillard said.

A rare celebration at the Coliseum

DJ duo Phantogram provided music for the crowd of 22,500 people at Thursday’s celebration before USC Song and the Trojan Marching Band made their way onto the field, the latter performing such USC staples as “Fight On” and “Tusk.” Between the performers on the field, fans in the stands, and lines that wrapped around concession stands and merchandise booths, Thursday’s celebration was like a Trojan-themed music festival. Additionally, as a gift from the university, all graduates received a USC-themed snapback hat from Cactus Jack, rapper Travis Scott’s clothing brand.

“I was impressed with how they pulled the event off so last-minute,” said attendee Chloe Barker, who was graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the USC Roski School of Art and Design. “It was nice to come back to the Coliseum one last time [as a student].”

Annie Shick, who is earning a bachelor’s in journalism from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, also appreciated the opportunity to gather with her friends at the Coliseum. “I’d never seen anything like that drone show before,” Shick added. “They should do it every year from now on.”

USC 2024 commencement, Trojan Family Graduate Celebration

Prior to Thursday night, there had only been two commencements — or commencement-related events — at the Coliseum in the past 75 years. The last commencement ceremony held at the facility was in 2021. That celebration also honored the previous year’s class following the postponed ceremony in 2020.

“It’s really auspicious for all of us to be here as a spiritual community in this sacred space — the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum,” USC Dean of Religious Life Varun Soni said. “The only facility to host two — going on three — Olympic Games, two Super Bowls, one World Series, and most importantly for our purposes, the first-ever Trojan Family Graduate Celebration.”

Joining the Trojan alumni family

Several Trojan greats sent recorded congratulations to the Class of 2024, including Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Allen and former Trojan quarterback Matt Barkley, who welcomed them into the Trojan alumni community.

“The Trojan Family is extremely proud of you,” Allen said. “As you move on in life, you must remember this very important thing: Always Fight On.”

Four-time Olympic gold medal swimmer Janet Evans, who currently serves as the chief athlete officer of LA28, the organizing committee for the 2028 L.A. Summer Olympics, also addressed the crowd. Evans highlighted the importance of a degree from USC, and how all the lessons learned here — in and out of the classroom — will prepare graduates for the road ahead.

“It’s a big world out there — we’re not always going to win gold medals,” Evans said. “We’re not always going to win the race, but this place prepared me for the ups and downs of what life brought me outside of the swimming pool. There is no better degree for you to have — there is no greater place that supports you than the alumni here at USC.”
