Downtown Nappanee gets ready for biggest Friday Fest yet

NAPPANEE, Ind. (WNDU) - Nappanee’s Friday Fest series returns this Friday night.

From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., downtown Nappanee will feature local eateries and vendors, live music by the 1985 band, bounce castles, and so much more.

According to organizers, there will be 17 different food trucks and vendors on site, a huge car show, and even a pet fair inviting you to bring your furry friend along with you!

“We started these festivals to bring people to downtown Nappanee, because people don’t realize everything that we have here, we have a lot to offer,” says Cami Mechling, executive director of Visit Nappanee. “During our Friday Fest, people kind of look around and say, ‘Oh, I like that place, I want to go try it out,’ or, ‘Oh, I’ve never seen that, I want to go eat at Ruhe.’ So, tonight, a lot of our downtown shops will be open late for the festival. They’ll have sales and specials.”

Visit Nappanee Hosts Friday Fest June 11

Quentin Flagg will be performing at Nappanee Friday Fest this Friday, June 11.

NAPPANEE — Nappanee’s annual Friday Fest season will start off with a classic vibe featuring a tractor show, a special section of Nappanee area cabinet makers on the evening of June 11.

Quentin Flagg will lead the live entertainment with his 50’s/60’s rock covers, and visitors can enjoy a variety of meals and treats from food trucks and local food vendors. As always, shopping booths and children’s activities will round out the family fun! Most activities and booths will be located along E. Lincoln St. between Main & Summit.

Mark your calendars and plan on hitting the street for Friday Fest in downtown Nappanee!

The Chamber is putting together a listing of garage sales. Anyone planning to have a sale that would like to be included in our listing, should email the attached form to [email protected] or drop it off at the Nappanee Chamber office located at 302 W. Market St. in the Nappanee Center by NOON on Wednesday, July 3. Listings will be available by noon on July 8 at the Chamber office and participating businesses.

Virginia couple stops in Grand Island on journey to visit every Texas Roadhouse in the U.S.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A Virginia couple’s visit to Grand Island’s Texas Roadhouse Friday marked their 427th location.

Judy and Mike McNamara’s love for Texas Roadhouse began in 2003, when they went to the restaurant for the first time while visiting Judy’s brother in Knoxville, Tennessee. Mike said between their first visit and 2017, when Judy retired from her job at the papermill in Southeastern Virginia, the two visited 37 locations in that time.

“It was like ok, let’s see how many we can go to,” said Mike. “So this is what we’ve been doing, you know from 2018 ‘til now.”

The retired couple said that it’s not just the food that keeps them coming back to the establishments, it’s also the people they meet along the way.

“We’re especially enjoying the people that work at these places,” said Mike. “Texas Roadhouse is a big family, you will meet people more than one time in your journeys. Either they’ve been promoted and moved on to another store or transferred.”

Instead of ordering the same meal every time they visit, the McNamara’s rotate between their favorites depending on what they feel like and what they’ve eaten recently. Judy and Mike said their favorite orders at Texas Roadhouse are chicken critters, sirloin, herb chicken, pulled pork, ribs and pork chops. The side salad is something they always have with every meal.

Judy and Mike have been married for 52 years and plan to visit their 500th Texas Roadhouse by the middle of 2025.
