Pembroke is also the tribal seat of the Lumbee tribe, which is the largest state-recognized tribe east of the Mississippi River, though without an official reservation. The campus here used to be the Indian Normal School.

Our Lumbee Tribal Territory is located in Southeastern North Carolina in Robeson, Hoke, Cumberland, and Scotland Counties. The Lumbee People are known for their entrepreneurial spirit and their focus on education. We welcome you to visit our homeland. 

Lumbee Tribal Citizens, our tribal website list information and staff details for available services for your families which include, but are not limited to Tribal Support Services, Emergency Rental Assistance, Housing services for families and college students, Enrollment assistance, Energy assistance, Transitional Housing Services, Youth Services, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Veteran Services, Youth Services through Project Indigechoice and much more. If you have questions, please reach out to our staff. We are here to help. Also, our Lumbee Tribal Enrollment Office is now open late on Monday afternoons to better assist you. Robeson (pronounced Rob-e-son) County is the largest of North Carolina's counties in area (approximately 10% smaller than the state of Rhode Island).

With over 130,000 residents, Robeson County is one of the most diverse counties in the nation. Pembroke is a charming walled town which dates back over 900 years and is famous for its Norman Castle. Pembroke Castle is one of the most complete Norman castles in the UK. It is the birthplace of Henry VII, founder of the Tudor dynasty.

Pembroke town is a textbook medieval fortified town with a central main street heading east from the castle gates and a moat or castle pond extending round much of the town. The old town walls are remarkably intact complete with defensive towers such as Barnards Tower, an impressive three-storied tower with a fore building over its entrance.

The report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, fire safety, university law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, policies related to and programs to prevent sexual violence and other crimes, disciplinary procedures and other matters of importance related to campus safety and security.  The report also contains information about crime statistics for the previous three calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on the university's Clery geography, which is: 1) on campus property; 2) residence halls; 3) in/on off-campus property owned or controlled by UNC Pembroke; and 4) public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus (public roads).
