Weezer Announces 30th Anniversary ‘Voyage to the Blue Planet’ Tour

A North American tour in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their career-defining, self-titled debut

After teasing upcoming live shows on social media, Weezer are thrilled to officially announce an extensive North American tour in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their career-defining, self-titled debut  Weezer , also known as the ‘ Blue Album .’ They will play  Weezer  (the Blue Album) in full along with other fan favorites, rarities and more. On this anniversary tour produced by Live Nation, Weezer will be joined by  The   Flaming Lips  and  Dinosaur Jr . as support.

Fans can sign up for Weezer’s mailing list to get access to presale tickets on Wednesday, March 13 at 12:00PM local time. More presales including a Citi presale (details below) will run throughout the week ahead of the general onsale beginning on Friday, March 15 at 10:00AM local time. All tickets can be purchased on the band’s website  HERE .

Citi is the official card of Weezer’s Voyage to the Blue Planet Tour. Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets for U.S. dates beginning Wednesday, March 13 at 9:00AM local time until Thursday, March 14 at 10:00PM local time through the Citi Entertainment program. Separate from their tour, the band also announces a special anniversary event on March 15th at the  Lodge Room  in  Los Angeles  with  Dogstar  as support. This exciting full-circle moment mirrors the band’s March 1992 show at Raji’s where they ended up opening for Dogstar in an unlikely turn of events. The name “Weezer” was coined in a conversation with the show’s booker (read more via Weezerpedia  HERE ). They will be playing  Weezer  (the Blue Album) front to back alongside some very special guests.

An instantly recognizable cultural touchstone of the 1990s,  Weezer  (the Blue Album) has garnered such a firm place in the musical pantheon of the last three decades that it serves as an entry point into music for nascent listeners. A testament to the band’s staying power, tracks like “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So” have earned hundreds of millions of streams and endless placements in TV shows and movies.

The run of dates kicks off in Saint Paul, Minnesota at the Xcel Energy Center on September 4th before traveling to major cities including Toronto, Boston, New York, Nashville, and Washington, D.C. to name a few. About Weezer:

Weezer is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, CA in 1992, currently consisting of Rivers Cuomo (lead vocals, lead guitar), Patrick Wilson (drums), Brian Bell (rhythm guitar, backing vocals, keyboards), and Scott Shriner (bass, backing vocals). Weezer has sold 10 million albums in the U.S., and over 35 million records worldwide. Their catalogue has included such megahits as “Buddy Holly,” “Undone (The Sweater Song),” “Say It Ain’t So,” “El Scorcho,” “Hash Pipe,” “Island In The Sun,” “Beverly Hills,” “Pork and Beans,” and more.  Weezer has won Grammys, MTV Video Music Awards, and more throughout their career. Following massively acclaimed album releases in 2016 and 2017 (Weezer [The White Album] and Pacific Daydream, respectively), and two sold out amphitheater tours with Panic! At the Disco (in 2016) and Pixies (in 2018), Weezer released a fan-inspired cover of Toto’s “Africa.” The cover propelled the band back into the charts across the board, giving Weezer their FIFTH #1, TENTH Top 5, and SIXTEENTH Top 10 at Alternative Radio, in addition to landing Top 5 on the Hot AC chart.  It has since gone Platinum. They then surprise dropped a covers album at the start of 2019 — Weezer (The Teal Album) — which has been streamed over a hundred million times since its release. In 2021, Weezer released two very different but equally Weezer albums – OK Human, an orchestral pop album meditating on technology and disconnectedness, and Van Weezer, an homage to the band’s shared metal roots growing up. OK Human’s first single, “All My Favorite Songs,” was one of the biggest rock hits of 2021, and was subsequently nominated for a Grammy for “Best Rock Song.” In 2022, the band released SZNZ, a four EP project inspired by Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and completed the European leg of the Hella Mega tour, which sold out stadiums in America throughout the year prior. In 2023, the band embarked on an incredible sold-out run across North America called the Indie Rock Road Trip, which was hailed as one of the best tours of the summer.

Weezer is hitting the road for their 2023 “Indie Rock Roadtrip” tour, and tickets guarantee you access to some of the namesake genre’s biggest acts ( get tickets here ). For a band that’s already proven they know how to assemble a star-filled lineup and also quite literally set their summers on fire , the SZNZ quartet have still managed to outdo themselves with a roster including Modest Mouse , Spoon , Future Islands , and more.

What Is Weezer’s Next Tour?

The 30-city “Indie Rock Roadtrip” tour launches in Huntsville, Alabama on June 4th, followed by southern dates in Austin, Oklahoma City, and more. In the Midwest, Weezer plays dates including Minneapolis and Madison, Wisconsin before heading east to Maryland, North Carolina, and Georgia. They headline Philadelphia’s TD Pavilion on June 27th and close out the month in Bangor, Maine.

Weezer opens July in Worcester, Massachusetts, then stops in Canandaigua, New York on July 3rd. They’ll spend July 4th in Toronto and return stateside for a show in Gary, Indiana on July 9th. Following a stop in Pittsburgh on July 11, the California quartet performs at New York’s Forest Hills Stadium on July 13th.

The band breaks for a month before resuming in Auburn, Washington on August 20th. They travel down the West Coast to Bend, Oregon and Berkeley, then hit Magna, Utah; Denver; Phoenix; and Las Vegas. After a performance in Irvine, California, the “Indie Rock Roadtrip” tour reaches its final destination in San Diego on September 3rd.

Who Is Opening for Weezer on Tour?

Weezer will be in good company on their summer “Indie Rock Roadtrip” tour. The band first embarks with Modest Mouse and Momma in June, then switches passengers toward the end of the month for Future Islands and Joyce Manor . In August, they’ll be accompanied by Spoon and White Reaper .

How Can I Get Tickets for Weezer’s 2023 Tour?

Weezer tickets will be available in two waves for members of the band’s Fan Club starting Wednesday, March 1st at 10:00 a.m. local time. Next, a Live Nation pre-sale will open on Thursday, March 2nd at 10:00 a.m. local time (use access code CHORUS ), along with a Spotify pre-sale and various venue-specific offers that same a day.

General public on-sale opens on Friday, March 3rd at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster .

Forget an “Island In The Sun.”

This summer, we’d rather be at Weezer’s star-studded ‘Indie Rock Roadtrip’ Tour .

From June through September, the “Buddy Holly” rockers are taking Modest Mouse, Spoon, Future Islands, Momma, Joyce Manor and White Reaper along with them on select dates for what will surely be one of the biggest indie rock tours of the year.

And, of course, they’ll hit New York.

First, the ‘Indie Rock Roadtrip’ will swing into Canandaigua’s Constellation Brands Performing Arts Center on July 3.

Ten days, later, Weezer and co. are set to make a pit stop at Queens’ Forest Hills Stadium at West Side Tennis Club on July 13.

Then, after the tour ends, Weezer returns to the Northeast to play Asbury Park, NJ’s annual Sea.Hear.Now Festival on Sept. 17-18 alongside major headliners Foo Fighters, The Killers and The Beach Boys.

Weezer’s summer road trip will sputter to a stop on Sept. 3 at PETCO Park in San Diego, CA .

Weezer new music

The durable rockers keep testing the boundaries of music.

Most recently, Weezer released the concept four-album “SZNZ” project. As you may have guessed, each of the four records represented a “season.”

In late 2022, the band teased a Broadway show to accompany the new songs but threw in the towel due to low ticket sales and high production costs.

Anyhow, you can still hear the band’s ambitious “SZNZ” albums here: “Spring,” “Summer,” “Autumn” and “Winter.”

Weezer Announce Summer Tour with Spoon, Modest Mouse, Future Islands

The trek kicks off in June

Weezer have announced a massive summer tour of North America. The Indie Rock Roadtrip kicks off on June 4 at The Orion Amphitheater in Alabama and wraps up on September 3 at Gallagher Square at Petco Park in California. Special guests for the trek will be Spoon, Modest Mouse, Future Islands, Momma, Joyce Manor, and White Reaper all on select dates.

These Are the Green Jersey Contenders at the 2024 Tour de France

The Tour’s top sprinters will be on the hunt for points, despite another mountainous course.

The battle to win the green jersey at the 2024 Tour de France will again be intense with a defending champion poised for a repeat victory and several riders chasing him that might need to choose between targeting stage wins or the Points Competition.

All of them will have to contend with another mountainous route, one that limits most of their chances to the Tour’s first two weeks. In fact, don’t be surprised if the rider who wins the green jersey competition is the only sprinter to make it all the way to the end of the Tour.

So here’s a rundown of this year’s green jersey contenders–and some of the other sprinters hoping to leave the 2024 Tour de France with a stage victory.

The Defending Champion

Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck)

After winning two stages in the 2022 Tour de France including Stage 21 on the Champs Elysees–a stage that many consider to be the unofficial sprinter’s world championship–Philipsen upped the ante last year, winning four stages and his first green jersey.

But if you watched the newest season of Netflix’s Tour de France: Unchained , you know that Philipsen was not a popular rider–at least among many of his peers–thanks to reckless, dangerous, and sometimes confusing tactics that earned him the nickname, “Jasper the Disaster” the year prior. The Belgian said at the beginning of the series that he was hoping to shed the moniker in 2023, but he did anything but that.

This season, Philipsen took a long break after the spring Classics, where he won his first Monument– Milan-San Remo –and took second–for the second year in a row–at Paris-Roubaix. He returned to racing at last week’s Tour of Belgium, winning a stage and the Points Classification in his nation’s home tour.

At the Tour de France he’s again shooting for as many stage wins as possible, and perhaps another green jersey–which should come easily if he wins as many stages as he did last year. Once again he’ll have a full team supporting him, led by none other than the Netherlands’ Mathieu van der Poel, the reigning world champion and one of the strongest riders in the sport.

We’re eager to see if Philipsen can accomplish his goals without drawing the ire of other riders and teams. Yes, sprinting is an aggressive enterprise and its best practitioners are willing to throw caution to the wind for the sake of crossing the finish line first. But there’s a way to do it such that others aren’t put in harm’s way–and that’s another line that Philipsen crosses far too often.

The Challenger

Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek)

Philippsen’s toughest competition should again come from Denmark’s Mads Pedersen, a hybrid sprinter similar to the Belgian in that he’s able to make it to the finish on tougher stages and still have the legs left to sprint for the win. That’s why–in addition to having won stages in all three grand tours, including his second Tour de France stage last year–he’s an accomplished Classics rider–like Philipsen.

The Dane took a break following this year’s spring Classics–during which he took a second win in Ghent-Wevelgem–but came back to racing at the recent Critérium du Dauphiné, where he won Stage 1 and wore the yellow jersey for a day. His chances of winning the green jersey will hinge upon how well he can do on the Tour’s flatter sprint finishes, the kind of stages in which Philipsen often has an edge. Pedersen might not target those days, instead choosing to pick specific stages on which to go all-in. Winning stages means more to his team than the green jersey does, but if Pedersen makes it through the first in the hunt for green, we won’t be surprised if he goes for it.

Just Shooting for Stage Wins

Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan)

Last year was supposed to be Cavendish’s last Tour de France. The then-38-year-old came to the Tour hoping to get the one win he needed to become the winningest rider (stage-wise) in Tour de France history. But sadly–just as it looked as if he were on the verge of taking the one win he needed to break his current tie with Belgium’s Eddy Merckx–he crashed and broke his collarbone. Luckily for us, Cav took some time to think (and heal) and then announced that he would race one more season, a season built entirely around getting his 35th Tour de France stage victory.

The competition will be as fierce as it was last year, but Cav’s Astana team has bolstered its ranks, most notably by signing one of Cav’s favorite lead-out men–Denmark’s Michael Mørkøv–away from Quick Step. With Mørkøv and Italy’s Davide Ballerini, Cavendish now has two of the riders who helped him win four stages and the green jersey with Quick Step in 2021, victories that reignited the Manxman’s bid to break Merckx’s record. As far as we’re concerned, Cav’s quest to win a stage will be one of the most exciting storylines in this year’s Tour, and if breaks the record, we’re gonna need some tissues.

Fabio Jakobsen (dsm-firmenich PostNL)

Jakobsen took a single stage win in two Tour de France starts with Soudal-Quick Step, a lackluster record which made it easy for the team to let the Dutchman leave for dsm-firmenich PostNL during the off-season. And so far he’s done little to indicate his former employers made a mistake, winning just one race in 2024, a stage at the Tour of Turkey, against mediocre competition.

He’ll be looking to redeem himself at the Tour de France, where unfortunately the route once again does him no favors. His best chances will come during the first two weeks, at which point he’ll likely head home before the Tour’s mountainous finale. A stage win would be a major victory for the 26-year-old, a result that could spark a turnaround for a rider who once looked poised to become one of the two or three best sprinters in the world.

Dylan Groenewegen and Michael Matthews (Jayco AlUla)

A five-time Tour stage-winner, Groenewegen came close a few times last year, but failed to add a sixth victory to his tally. The Dutchman is a bit more of a throwback to the days when pure field sprinters dominated the Tour’s flat stages, and with a team that always comes to the Tour with several cards to play, his chances have been somewhat hurt by the fact that he doesn’t have a leadout as powerful as some of the Tour’s other sprinters.

But that could change this year as Jayco AlUla is also bringing Matthews to the Tour de France. A four-time Tour stage-winner who won the green jersey in 2017, the Australian is the perfect complement to Groenewegen. As more of a hybrid sprinter, Matthews can serve as a perfect leadout man for Groenwegen on the flatter, faster finishes, while hunting for stage wins himself on hillier stages. He’s even a threat to win a stage from a breakaway. And while Matthews’ first order of business will be going for stage wins, don’t be surprised if he ends up contending for another green jersey as well.

Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty)

Girmay–who won a stage at the Giro d’Italia as a rookie in 2022–raced his first Tour de France last year with his best result being a third-place finish on Stage 7 in Bordeaux. But the French grand tour is an intimidating event, and Girmay isn’t the first rider to have come up short in his Tour de France debut.

The Eritrean’s spring wasn’t the best–he was largely irrelevant during the spring Classics and then crashed out of the Giro on Stage 4–but he seems to have found some form, scoring a win and two podium places in a series of one-day races in late-May and early-June. In the future we could see him becoming a green jersey contender, but for now, his only goal will be winning a stage.

Sam Bennett (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale)

Bennett’s had a rocky few years. He won two stages and the green jersey with Quick Step in 2020, then was pushed to the side a few weeks before the race in 2021. Apparently, the Irishman had fallen out of favor with the team’s out-spoken and controversial general manager, Patrick Lefevere, and Mark Cavendish was given a last-minute call-up to take the Irishman’s place.

Cavendish went on to win four stages and the green jersey while Bennett was left looking for a new contract. So he went back to his previous team–BORA-hansgrohe–and won six races in two seasons for the German squad, including two stages at the 2022 Vuelta a España. He’s since moved to Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale, where he hopes to score a stage win for the French team in his first Tour de France since his successful run in 2021.

Other Sprinters to Watch

One of the best young sprinters in the sport, Belgium’s Arnaud De Lie (Lotto Dstny) is making his grand tour debut at the Tour de France. At first it looked like a Tour de France stage win might be a bit out of reach for the 22-year-old rookie this year, but then he outsprinted Philipsen, Jordi Meeus, and Wout van Aert–all Tour de France stage winners–to win the Belgian national championship last weekend, a tremendous boost of confidence as De Lie heads into his first Tour.

France’s Arnaud Démare (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) left Groupama-FDJ in frustration midway through last season after being left-off his team’s roster for the Tour de France for the second year in a row. Now the two-time Tour stage winner is hoping to score what would be a first-ever Tour de France stage victory for his new employers–a result that would certainly send a message to his old ones.

The French are going to need to win a stage one way or another, and if it’s not Démare, it might as well be Bryan Coquard (Cofidis) , a 32-year-old veteran who was once one of the more promising young field sprinters in the sport. His best days might be behind him, but he did win a stage at the recent Tour de Suisse, a good sign heading into the Tour.

Since getting hooked on pro cycling while watching Lance Armstrong win the 1993 U.S. Pro Championship in Philadelphia, longtime Bicycling contributor Whit Yost has raced on Belgian cobbles, helped build a European pro team, and piloted that team from Malaysia to Mont Ventoux as an assistant director sportif. These days, he lives with his wife and son in Pennsylvania, spending his days serving as an assistant middle school principal and his nights playing Dungeons & Dragons.

French voters returned to the polls on Sunday, June 30, three weeks after President Emmanuel Macron surprised the nation by calling snap elections following his side's defeat in the European elections .

Over two rounds of voting, with the second one taking place Sunday, July 7, voters are choosing the 577 members of the Assemblée Nationale. In the first round, the top two candidates in each constituency qualify for the second round. Any candidate who receives a number of votes equivalent to at least 12.5% of the registered voters in the constituency also qualifies, meaning there can be three- or even four-way second rounds.

A candidate who obtains 50% of the vote in the first round wins the seat, as long as the number of votes they receive is equivalent to at least 25% of registered voters in the constituency. In that case, there is no second round.

We have added the mention "Withdr." to candidates who qualified for the second round but have decided to withdraw. Many of them have done so to support a better-placed candidate, as part of a widespread effort from parties to beat the far right in as many districts as possible.

Rocket mortgage classic 2024 odds, course history and picks to win, share this article.

After a busy signature event-major championship-signature event stretch, the PGA Tour heads to Detroit and Detroit Golf Club for the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic. Defending champion Rickie Fowler — T-20 at the Travelers Championship last week — and Mr. 59 Cameron Young highlight the field in Michigan.

Since the tournament’s debut in 2019, the winning scores have been 25 under (Nate Lashley, 2019), 23 under (Bryson DeChambeau, 2020), 18 under (Cameron Davis, 2021), 26 under (Tony Finau, 2022) and 24 under (Fowler, 2023). So, like last week in Cromwell, Connecticut, expect a birdie-fest.

Travelers Championship runner-up Tom Kim is the betting favorite at 12/1, followed by Young at 16/1, Min Woo Lee at 20/1 and Akshay Bhatia at 22/1.

Jaeger has loved him some Detroit Golf Club over the last two seasons, finishing solo fifth in 2022 and T-9 a year ago.

The German ranks 24th in birdie or better percentage entering the week, an important stat for an event that will surely have a winning score of 20 under or deeper. His newfound distance off the tee — ranks 17th on Tour — will come in handy at a golf course that can be overpowered a bit.

Jaeger tied for 21st at the U.S. Open and 31st at the Travelers in his last two starts.

Taylor Pendrith (30/1)

Pendrith has been playing consistent golf for the majority of 2024. In his last four starts, the Canadian has finished T-21 (RBC Canadian Open), T-33 (Memorial), T-16 (U.S. Open) and T-23 (Travelers Championship).

In two previous starts at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Pendrith has finished T-2 (2022) and T-14 (2023).

His game perfectly fits this track. Don’t be surprised if he’s in the mix again Sunday.

Aaron Rai (30/1)

Rai’s name has been bouncing around leaderboards for the last few months. Since the start of May, the Englishman has finished T-4 (CJ Cup Byron Nelson), T-39 (PGA Championship), T-32 (Charles Schwab Challenge), T-14 (RBC Canadian Open) and T-19 (U.S. Open).

In his lone start at Detroit Golf Club, Rai tied for ninth in 2023.

Davis Thompson (35/1)

Since missing the cut at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, Thompson has grabbed finishes of T-2 (Myrtle Beach Classic), T-17 (Charles Schwab Challenge), MC (RBC Canadian Open), T-27 (Memorial) and T-9 (U.S. Open).

Thompson has made it to the weekend in both appearances at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, highlighted by a T-24 finish in 2023.

Jake Knapp (110/1)

Knapp hasn’t had his best stuff of late — three missed cuts in his last four starts — but this pick is about feel and course fit.

The 30-year-old can absolutely pound it off the tee and will use that as a weapon around this Donald Ross design.

Thirty percent of approaches at DGC come from wedge range — 50-125 yards — and Knapp ranks 21st on Tour from that range and 11th from 100-125 yards.

In a weak field and at these odds, Knapp is worth a flyer.
