Jon Paul Steuer died of unconfirmed causes on New Year's Day.

Punk rocker and former child actor Jon Paul Steuer, perhaps best known for his role as the young Klingon Alexander Rozhenko on Star Trek: The Next Generation , died of unconfirmed causes on Monday, January 1, at age 33. Steuer’s friends and P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S. bandmates announced his passing on the band’s Facebook page on Wednesday, writing, “It is with heavy hearts and saddened minds that we announce the passing of our dear friend and singer Jonny Jewels, AKA Jon Paul Steuer.”

Steuer was the first young actor to portray Alexander, Lieutenant Worf and K’Ehleyr’s son, on TNG . Though he only played Alexander in a single episode of the series, Season 4’s “Reunion,” Steuer still marks the first actor to take on the role; Alexander was later portrayed by Brian Bonsall, Marc Worden, James Sloyan, and Richard Martinez. According to an interview with Jonathan Frakes (Commander William T. Riker) in a TNG Season 4 DVD special feature, Steuer was probably recast because he “was too shy, not a warrior.”

After Star Trek: The Next Generation , Freuer went on to star in the hit ABC sitcom Grace Under Fire from The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre. Freuer left the series after the first three seasons, quoting struggles with substance addiction, rehabilitation, and relapse. Steuer quit acting after Grace Under Fire , picking up a music career and later opening a vegan restaurant.

In the Facebook post announcing his death, P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S. wrote:

The addition of Jonny to our dysfunctional band family was one of the best choices that we have ever made, and he brought a much needed sense of fun and lightheartedness to everything we did. He was only with us for a little more than a year, but we managed to cram a lifetime of great experiences into his tenure as our singer: dozens shows at home in Portland and across several states, an amazing European tour, and our best full-length release yet.
We’ve lost our singer, but far, far more than that we’ve lost a friend. Rest in peace, Jonny…we love you.

Actor Jon Paul Steur, the first actor to play Alexander Rozhenko in Star Trek: The Next Generation, has died at the age of 33.

The child star passed away on New Year’s Day, although a cause of death is yet to be confirmed, according to the Willamette Week.

After beginning his acting career at the age of three, Jon’s biggest moment came when he bagged the role of Alexander in 1990, who was the son of Klingon Worf and Ambassador K’Ehleyr.

In 1991, he continued his career with a role in comedy series Late For Dinner, before winning greater plaudits with a turn as Quentin Kelly in the television series Grace Under Fire.

Despite his successes, he gave up acting altogether at the age of 12 to pursue music, and played in a series of bands under his new alter-ego Jonny P Jewels.

10 Worst Sitcom Character Betrayals, Ranked

10 animated tv shows that no one seems to remember, “i remember vividly”: secret reason for andy griffith show’s signature scenes revealed by ron howard.

Worf's son in  Star Trek: The Next Generation , Alexander Rozhenko, returned in  Star Trek: Deep Space Nine  — but what happened to the young Klingon after? Worf is a Klingon warrior and a Starfleet officer who was raised by adoptive human parents, Sergey and Helena Rozhenko. Being a Klingon by blood but having been raised in a human environment, Worf occupies a difficult realm between two very different worlds — which makes his unexpected parental responsibilities for his part-human, part-Klingon son, Alexander, even more complicated and difficult.

Alexander was the result of a union between Worf and K'Ehleyr; the daughter of a Human mother and a Klingon father, K'Ehleyr was uniquely suited to be an Ambassador between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. Worf and K'Ehleyr became romantically involved in the  TNG  episode "The Emmissary," but after she rejected Worf's marriage proposal, the two parted ways. Alexander was the result of that union, and although Worf initially rejected welcoming Alexander into his life — due to the "shame" on Worf and his descendants due to him receiving a Klingon discommendation — K'Ehleyr's death left him little choice but to take responsibility for his son.

Alexander appeared several times in TNG ,   despite not being a series regular; however, he did not follow his father to Deep Space Nine, instead opting to live with Worf's human parents on Earth. Alexander's future was hinted at in the  TNG  episode "Firstborn," which featured an adult version of the character from 40 years in the future. Future Alexander, calling himself K'mtar, reveals that he travelled to the past with the intent on making his younger self a great warrior, in order to prevent Worf's murder in the future. While "Firstborn" reveals a brief summary of Alexander's life as an adult, a number of events occurred in  Deep Space Nine  that suggest this alternate Star Trek  timeline never happened: chief among these is the Dominion War.

Worf became a series regular on  Star Trek: Deep Space Nine  in season 4. His son Alexander only appeared in two episodes of  DS9 , although he was referenced in others (like the time Worf sweetly commented to Miles O'Brien that he regretted not having seen his son as a toddler). When Alexander does appear, in the season 6 episode "Sons and Daughters," he is now an adult — Klingon's age much quicker than humans do, so even though he's only approximately 9 years old, he appears as a teenage male. The episode's plot revolves around Alexander's misguided attempts to reclaim his heritage by enlisting in the Klingon Defense Force in order to support the Klingon war against the Dominion. He is stationed on the Rotarran, on which   his father is a commanding officer. Alexander repeatedly demonstrates that he lacks the "warrior" abilities Klingons value — but he tries hard, and eventually, Worf realizes his his son's brave spirit and willingness to try are virtues in their own right.

Alexander later appears in the season 6 episode "You Are Cordially Invited," in which he is asked to be the " Tawi'Yan"   (or "swordbearer") at Worf and Jadzi Dax 's wedding. The role is similar to being "best man" in the wedding party. The episode reveals that Alexander is still clumsy, but he informs Worf that the Klingon crew of the Rotarran has come to accept him as such, referring to him affectionately as a good luck charm. In the season 7 episode "Penumbra," Ezri Dax states that Alexander was made a weapons officer on his new assignment on the Ya'Vang and was starting to lose his clumsiness.

Although nothing in  Deep Space Nine  disproves the future described in  TNG 's "Firstborn," the path Alexander finds himself on as a young adult is unlikely to result in him becoming the same pacifist and diplomat described by K'mtar. Worf is still alive during  Star Trek: Picard , but because K'mtar was vague about when the murder was to have taken place, it's currently unclear if this is proof that Alexander's future was changed as a result of him (and Worf) meeting his future self. Worf has yet to appear in  Picard , although fans hope actor Michael Dorn will reprise the role for season 2. If so, it would be the perfect opportunity for Alexander to return to the franchise — perhaps on a crew serving underneath his father once more.

Catching Up With Brian Bonsall, TNG's Alexander Rozhenko

alexander from star trek the next generation died

Brian Bonsall earned a place in entertainment history with his role as the impossibly cute Andy Keaton in the final few seasons of the classic sitcom Family Ties , but he also holds an important spot in Star Trek lore. Bonsall portrayed Worf's son, Alexander Rozhenko, in seven episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation . Bonsall quit acting in 1994 and eventually ended up in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. These days, however, he's healthy and happy, and performing music with his bands -- Lowjob and Bootjack & Bonz -- out in Colorado. He'll venture to Los Angeles in a few days to appear at The Hollywood Show, an autograph event that will be held April 8-10 at the Westin Los Angeles Airport Hotel in Los Angeles; go to www.thehollywoodshow.com for details. In advance of his appearance, the amiable Bonsall chatted with StarTrek.com about his music, his memories of playing Alexander and more. Here's what he had to say: Let's start with Star Trek . How did you land the role of Alexander and how aware were you of Star Trek in general at the time and specifically of The Next Generation ? From what I remember, I tried out with a lot of other kids, because I do have a strong memory of the casting office being very crowded. I had definitely seen the show a fair amount and the stage ended up being around the corner from the Family Ties stage, so there's a little fun fact. The producers wanted Alexander to be a recurring character. How often were you expecting to play him? I think at the time, all we knew was that it was recurring. I was very busy around that time with other roles, too, so I was always running around to different jobs.

You'll be at the Hollywood Show this weekend. How do you enjoy meeting the fans, signing autographs, posing for photos? Honestly, it's kind of new to me again after being away from that environment for so long. It was definitely super-neat to sign so much Star Trek memorabilia and to see the positive response from the fans. I even caught a glimpse of a couple of Family Ties tribute tattoos, and that was cool. I'd have to say I do enjoy it a lot.

"Star Trek" actor Jon Paul Steuer has died at the age of 33.

The former child star played Alexander Rozhenko in "The Next Generation" saga of the sci-fi favorite as well as landing the role of Quentin Kelly in '90s sitcom "Grace Under Fire."

Mr Steuer, also known as Jonny P Jewels when he moved from acting to a career in music and restaurants, died on New Years Day.

His bandmates in the group P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S confirmed his passing in a heartbreaking tribute.

They wrote: “It is with heavy hearts and saddened minds that we announce the passing of our dear friend and singer Jonny Jewels, AKA Jon Paul Steuer.

“The addition of Jonny to our dysfunctional band family was one of the best choices that we have ever made, and he brought a much needed sense of fun and lightheartedness to everything we did.

“We’ve lost our singer, but far, far more than that we’ve lost a friend. Rest in peace, Jonny...we love you. Jon Paul Steuer March 27, 1984 - January 1, 2018.”

A cause of death is yet to be determined according to the Willamette Week, which broke the tragic news.

Jon was born in California in March 1984 and began his acting career at just three years old.

Child actor Jon Paul Steuer was also known for his role in the sitcom "Grace Under Fire." (Disney)

He played Klingon Alexander — son of Worf and Ambassador K’Ehleyr — in 1990.

Following his "Star Trek" appearances he went on to other TV roles before starring in "Grace Under Fire."

But the series was shortlived amid an alleged substance abuse scandal involving the show’s star, actress Brett Butler, and Jon quit acting at 12.

He said in a 2015 interview about his acting days: “I wanted to forge on with acting after quitting the show, and I went out on a few interviews.

“But even then they’d turn into question-and-answer sessions with casting agents about "Grace Under Fire."

“I was kind of blown away by how unprofessional people inside the industry were. It really soured me. I didn’t want that kind of attention.”

Jon then moved into music under his alter ego Jonny P Jewels and later opened a successful vegan restaurant in Portland, Oregon.

The official "Star Trek" Online Twitter paid tribute, writing: “Rest in Peace, Jon Paul Steuer, the first actor to play Alexander in TNG. You will be deeply missed.”

A Young Alex

Star Trek Canon Special Note Not everything listed in the origin is Canon.  That is because only television shows and movies are considered canon for Star Trek.  This being a comic website there are many things here that are not canon.  So unless it is contradicted in film it should be listed as part of the character biography.     The son of Lieutenant Worf and  Ambassador K'Ehleyr , Alexander is 3/4 Klingon and 1/4 human.  For the first few years of his life, he never knew his father, or even that he had one, as K'Ehleyr never told Worf he had a child.  She did this knowing that Worf would insist on marriage and she had no interest in changing how she lived her life for a man.

Alexander was created for the television show Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Character Evolution

Growing Up with Worf

Alexander met his father when K'Ehleyr's job required her to return to the U.S.S. Enterprise D a few years later to guide Jean-Luc Picard in arbitrating  the selection of a new C hancellor for the Klingon Empire . His mother was killed by Duras and he watched as she died in Worf's arms.  Feeling inadequate to raise his son, Worf sent Alexander to Earth to be raised by his parents Helena and Sergey Rozhenko after K'Ehleyn's death.    One year later, Helena brought Alexander back to Worf. He'd had problems adjusting and was causing trouble, and Mrs. Rozhenko felt that his father's influence would help. However, the young Klingon resisted. Following in his mother's footsteps, Alexander swore off all things Klingon from an early age. Despite Worf's best efforts, he had no idea how to raise a child and he and Alexander kept butting heads.  Perhaps because of this, he ended up bonding even closer with Deanna Troi.  This relationship between Worf and Troi became romantic for a time.

Worf and Jadzia

Somewhere along the line though, they must have had more problems, because Alexander ends up some years later serving on board the  Klingon ship Rotarran under General Martok , claiming to belong to no family or house. When Worf confronts him, Alexander reveals that he felt Worf abandoned him by sending him back to Earth (although why or when has never been disclosed). After a while, serving on board the  Rotarran again, they make up and seem to get along. Alexander ended up joining the  House of Martok  and acted as Worf's Tawi'Yan (swordbearer) in his marrage to Jadzia .

Star Trek child star Jon Paul Steuer has died at the age of 33.

According to local reports, Steur - also known as musician and restaurateur Jonny P Jewels later in his career - died on January 1.

In 1990, the actor was the first to play the character of Alexander Rozhenko in The Next Generation , reportedly being the only child able to sit still for the three hours it took the make-up department to apply his Klingon facial prosthetics.

Steur went on to star as Quentin Kelly in US series Grace Under Fire and had a starring role in 1994 children's comedy film Little Giants .

In his later career as a restaurateur, Steuer owned his own establishment in Portland, Oregon and performed as part of the band P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S.

A cause of death is reportedly yet to be determined.

Steuer's bandmates confirmed his passing in a tribute which read: “It is with heavy hearts and saddened minds that we announce the passing of our dear friend and singer Jonny Jewels, AKA Jon Paul Steuer.

“The addition of Jonny to our dysfunctional band family was one of the best choices that we have ever made, and he brought a much needed sense of fun and lightheartedness to everything we did.

“He was only with us for a little more than a year, but we managed to cram a lifetime of great experiences into his tenure as our singer: dozens shows at home in Portland and across several states, an amazing European tour, and our best full-length release yet.

“We've lost our singer, but far, far more than that we've lost a friend. Rest in peace, Jonny...we love you. Jon Paul Steuer March 27, 1984 - January 1, 2018.”

Steuer was born in California and began his acting career at the age of 3 before quitting the industry just nine years later.

K'Ehleyr , the daughter of a Human mother and a Klingon father , was an ambassador and special emissary of the Federation in the 2360s .

Biography [ ]

K'Ehleyr described herself as being "trapped between two cultures" with bi-racial parents. Having the humor of her mother and the temper from her father, she preferred her Human side and exercised tight control of her Klingon tendencies. Her Klingon side nevertheless gave her strength, even if terrifying. ( TNG : " The Emissary ")

Though K'Ehleyr knew much about Klingon culture and fighting techniques, she never showed much respect for Klingon values, which was sometimes a cause of great fury for Worf. Consequently, she never taught Alexander about the Klingon way of living before her death. ( TNG : " Firstborn "; DS9 : " Sons and Daughters ")

In 2359 , she had a relationship with then Lieutenant Worf , but neither felt ready to engage in a deep relationship, so they separated.

K'Ehleyr about to beam over to the T'Ong

In 2365 , she traveled from Starbase 153 to the USS Enterprise -D on an urgent mission to intercept the Klingon sleeper ship IKS T'Ong , which was about to become active. The mission was considered so urgent and time-sensitive that K'Ehleyr agreed to be transported to the rendezvous with the capital ship in a Class 8 probe , capable of speeds of Warp 9, modified for space travel purposes. The Klingon vessel would have been unaware of the Federation-Klingon alliance , therefore posing a threat to Federation establishments in the Boradis system . While searching for the T'Ong , she renewed her relationship with Worf, but refused to marry him when he asked her. Due to this short renewal, however, she gave birth to a son a year later . On the mission, she tried to persuade Captain Picard to destroy the Klingon ship as soon as possible, but thanks to an idea of Worf's, this could be prevented: to convince the T'Ong 's crew of the Alliance, Worf posed as the captain of the Enterprise , with K'Ehleyr as his first officer . After the T'Ong 's crew had agreed to lay down their weapons, K'Ehleyr beamed aboard the T'Ong to prepare the crew for the 24th century while waiting for the IKS P'Rang . Before transporting over, Worf told her that he would never be complete without her. ( TNG : " The Emissary ")

K'Ehleyr death

K'Ehleyr dies in Worf's arms

In 2367 , she accompanied Klingon chancellor K'mpec , who had chosen Picard as Arbiter of Succession , to a meeting with the Enterprise . When she came aboard, Worf learned of his son Alexander for the first time. K'Ehleyr expressed her desire to become Worf's mate at this time, but he refused, saying that he did not desire to share his discommendation with her and Alexander. After K'mpec's death , she assisted Picard in the Rite of Succession , briefing him about Klingon rituals and tradition. As she therefore had much influence on the Rite, Gowron tried to bribe her with the command over a Klingon ship or a seat in the Klingon High Council , but she refused. Later, she discovered evidence that proved Duras was involved in the conspiracy that led to Worf's discommendation; on learning of her search through attempts to access Klingon High Council records he sealed, Duras attacked K'Ehleyr in her quarters and killed her. Worf transported to Duras' ship shortly later and killed him in vengeance. Afterwards, Worf claimed Alexander as his son and placed him in his adoptive parents' care on Earth . ( TNG : " Reunion ")

Alexander kept a picture of his mother next to his bed aboard the Enterprise . ( TNG : " Firstborn ")

In 2374 , Quark joked that Alexander must have gotten his looks from his mother's side of the family. ( DS9 : " You Are Cordially Invited ")

K'Ehleyr sketch

A costume sketch for K'Ehleyr by Durinda Rice Wood

K'Ehleyr was played by Suzie Plakson .

The role of K'Ehleyr was originally offered to actress Robin Curtis , but her commitment to another film project prevented her from taking the role. [1]

The script pronunciation guide for "The Emissary" notes that K'Ehleyr is pronounced "kay-LAHR". [2]

K'Ehleyr, Worf, Alexander

According to a reference cut from the script of "The Emissary", K'Ehleyr met Worf on Samrin's Planet in 2359. When they were reunited six years later, K'Ehleyr was disappointed at how much Worf had changed since their initial encounter.

Ronald D. Moore commented regarding K'Ehleyr's death: " I am happy to pass the buck on this one to Michael Piller . It was his idea to kill K'Ehleyr during the story break because it would be a great dramatic turn and would provide Worf with ample reason to go stick a bat'leth into Duras' guts. " He also mentioned that bringing back K'Ehleyr had come up a number of times. ( AOL chat , 1997 )

Apocrypha [ ]

In Peter David 's Star Trek: Starfleet Academy series, Worf and K'Ehleyr first meet while Worf is attending Starfleet Academy .

In the novel A Time for War, A Time for Peace , K'Ehleyr became Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire not long after Alexander was born. When she was on Qo'noS , she always stayed at the Federation embassy. In fact, in the time that Alexander lived with her, he never set foot anywhere else on the planet.

A subtle reference was made to K'Ehleyr in the Q Continuum series, which featured the female Q , another character played by Suzie Plakson; when the two are first introduced, Picard found her features slightly familiar, but could not place exactly where he recognized her from. Additionally, in the Star Trek: Voyager episode " The Q and the Grey ", the same female Q, when told off by B'Elanna Torres over an engineering problem, says she's always liked Klingon females as they are "spunky."

In the Pocket TNG novel Diplomatic Implausibility placed K'Ehleyr's grave site as Woodlawn Cemetery in New York City ; by coincidence, Lt. Marla Aster , whose son Jeremy Aster became a member of Worf's family after her untimely death, is buried there as well.

The mirror universe novel Rise Like Lions introduced K'Ehleyr's mirror universe counterpart ( β ). K'Ehleyr joined the Terran Rebellion , becoming first officer of the Rebellion's Enterprise under the mirror Picard.

The Star Trek: Coda finale Oblivion's Gate saw mirror-K'Ehleyr meet Worf and Alexander of the "First Splinter" timeline when they retreated to the mirror universe to find allies to stop the Temporal Apocalypse. K'Ehleyr and Worf had a brief but passionate relationship before the final confrontation to save the multiverse, K'Ehleyr fighting alongside Worf and Alexander on the Borg-controlled alternate Earth and dying before the timeline was reset.

Did Gene Roddenberry Try to Have a Gay Character on the Original Star Trek?

  • Rod Roddenberry believes his father would support LGBTQ+ characters on Star Trek now.
  • Gene Roddenberry's views on LGBTQ+ characters evolved over the years for the better.
  • Roddenberry, pre-Stonewall, was not considering LGBTQ+ characters on Star Trek in the 1960s.

TV LEGEND : Gene Roddenberry tried to have an LGBTQ+ character on the original Star Trek series.

A few years back, there was a bit of a controversy when George Takei, who played Lt. Sulu on the original Star Trek TV series from 1966-1969, criticized the decision of the Star Trek film reboot to have the Sulu in the film series (which was set in an alternate timeline where Captain James T. Kirk and his crew took over the Enterprise earlier than in the original timeline) be gay. Takei argued, "I’m delighted that there’s a gay character. Unfortunately, it’s a twisting of Gene’s creation, to which he put in so much thought . I think it’s really unfortunate." Takei felt that since Sulu was intended to be straight by Roddenberry on the original Star Trek series, that it would be wrong to have him be gay in the new timeline. Takei urged the filmmakers to create a new character instead.

Rod Roddenberry, Gene Roddenberry's son (Roddenberry died in 1991), noted at the time , in reference to his father, "I think he would be 100 percent in favor of a gay character in Star Trek. There’s so much going on in the world today. I think he would love any sort of social issue being brought into Star Trek. ”

Roddenberry is almost certainly correct that his father would have been in favor of there being a gay character on Star Trek now, but I think there has been some confusion as to Roddenberry's thoughts on the topic when it came to the original series. Essentially, Roddenberry has been positioned by some fans as someone who wanted to do an episode with LGBTQ+ characters in the 1960s, but just wasn't allowed to do so. Was that the case?

What has George Takei said about asking Gene Roddenberry for an LGBTQ+ character on Star Trek?

George Takei, in a PBS interview , told the story of a time in 1968 when he tried to pitch Roddenberry on doing an LGBTQ+ character on Star Trek:

“I did very privately bring up the issue of gays and lesbians. And he was certainly, as a sophisticated man, mindful of that, but he said – in one episode we had a biracial kiss, Captain Kirk and Uhura had a kiss. That show was literally blacked out in the south, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia didn't air that; our ratings plummeted. It was the lowest rated episode that we had. And he said, “I'm treading a fine tight wire here. I'm dealing with issues of the time. I'm dealing with the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War, the Cold War and I need to be able to make that statement by staying on the air.” He said, “If I dealt with that issue I wouldn't be able to deal with any issue because I would be canceled.”

Takei continued, "And I understood that because I was still closeted at that time. I talked to him as a liberal rather than as a gay man and I understood his position on that. So that's the way Star Trek envisioned our future in the 23rd century, but I think we're getting closer to that utopian society that Gene Roddenberry visualized, much more rapidly than even the technology.”

The interesting thing about the network, at the time, is that it specifically ASKED its producers to find roles for Black actors, sending out a memo ( courtesy of FactTrek ) stating, "We urge producers to cast Negroes, subject to their availability and competence as performers, as people who are an integral segment of the population, as well as in those roles where the fact of their minority status is of significance. An earnest attempt has been made to see that their presence contributes to an honest and natural reflection of places, situations and events, and we desire to intensify and extend this effort."

In other words, casting a regular Black character or a regular Asian character was, while certainly admirable by Roddenberry, not something that the network even had a problem with at that point in time. Having an LGBTQ+ regular character, though, wasn't even in the realm of possibility in 1968 for a network TV series. In other words, Roddenberry might very well have been mindful of Takei's concern at the time, but there was no way he was ever seriously considering having an LGBTQ+ character on the series.

What did Gene Roddenberry say about his interest in having LGBTQ+ characters in Star Trek?

In a great 1991 interview with David Alexander , Roddenberry discussed how his views had changed over the years, and he specifically offered up that his views on LGBTQ+ people had evolved for the better:

I n the early 1960s, I was much more a macho-type person. I was still accepting things from my childhood as necessary and part of reality how men related to women, et cetera. My assistant, Susan Sackett, used to say to me, "You really put down women a lot for someone who is supposed to be thoughtful and liberal." I began listening to her and agreeing that she was right in her perceptions. My attitude toward homosexuality has changed. I came to the conclusion that I was wrong. I was never someone who hunted down "fags" as we used to call them on the street. I would, sometimes, say something anti-homosexual off the top of my head because it was thought, in those days, to be funny. I never really deeply believed those comments, but I gave the impression of being thoughtless in these areas. I have, over many years, changed my attitude about gay men and women.

Again, by the launch of Star Trek: The Next Generation , Roddenberry was a different person, and society was thankfully different (David Gerrold has noted a number of times that Roddenberry specifically said circa 1986 that there WOULD be gay crew members on the Enterprise in The Next Generation ), and it is VERY likely that, had Roddenberry lived, he would have made sure that there was an LGBTQ+ character on The Next Generation . Sadly, he died before that could ever happen.

However, there was no way that he was ever even considering having an LGBTQ+ character on Star Trek in the late 1960s, pre-Stonewall. Roddenberry was certainly ahead of his time in many ways, but this after the fact portrayal of him as a guy titling at windmills in the pursuit of progressive ideals doesn't fit the reality of the late 1960s. He certainly did what he could, and he should be praised for doing so, but he wasn't trying to have LGBTQ+ characters on his network science fiction TV series in 1968.

The legend is...

STATUS : False enough for a false (there's some gray area when it comes to "I'd like to do that, but I can't")

She was first diagnosed about 10 years earlier and, at the time of production, had already far surpassed doctor's expectations for survival. She would live another 26 months after this show aired and die at the age of 57.

Commander William T. Riker : My mother died when I was a baby. All I had was pictures and the stories that my father used to tell me about her. I begged him to tell those stories over and over. When I was five and I went to school, I started to tell my new friends those same stories, pretending that she was alive. Then I started believing that she was alive, that she had just gone away, but that she was coming back. The teacher got wind of this. She and my father had this talk with me. They told me it was important to accept the fact that my mother was dead and that she wasn't coming back and all the hoping in the world wouldn't make it so. In my mind, that was the day that my mother actually died. I cried all that night, but after that, it started feeling better.

Star Trek actor dead as tributes paid to iconic performer after cancer battle

Star Trek and Lethal Weapon actor Alan Scarfe has sadly died aged 77. The Hollywood star passed away on April 28 at his home in Quebec after a battle with colon cancer, his family have announced.

Alan played two separate Romulan characters in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and featured as Magistrate Augris in Star Trek: Voyager episode. He was also known for his role in Lethal Weapon alongside Mel Gibson, and his features in Seven Days and Double Impact.

The British-Canadian actor turned to writing later on in life, winning an award in 2019 for his first novel The Revelation of Jack the Ripper.

Alan was born in England and raised in Vancouver, before returning to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art from 1964 to 1966. He then pivoted his career from the stage to the screen and moved to Los Angeles in 1989 with his family.

As the sad news breaks, fans have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their condolences, and remember the star’s incredible career.

The Hollywood star is survived by his children including daughter Antonia "Tosia" and son-in-law Austin, who lived with and cared for the star up until his death. He is also survived by his son, Jon Scarfe who works in the same profession as his father.

Jon is known for his roles in blockbusters including Van Helsing, Raising the Bar and television series The 100. He also leaves behind his brother Colin, son Jonathan Scarfe, and his grandchildren Kai and Hunter Scarfe.
